Staff were efficient , helpful and chatty. The garden is pleasant with lots of plants growing and well spaced tables. Food is reasonably priced and cooked well. A good range of drinks too.

Struggled a little bit with the push chair to get through the airlock doors and then to put it out of the way by our table. The staff were good, helpful, not overly attentive. The food (pizza) tasty but a disappointingly small salad for the 'healthy' option.

A warm friendly welcome and the staff were very nice, although none were wearing masks which I found strange. We pre booked a table and were sat near the entrance (glad about it as the main eating area was a little cramped for my liking). We ordered a selection of things from the menu, all of which was nice, however the beef was a bit tough and the gravy didn't taste homemade (more like Bisto as was very thin). Desserts were nice. Food was reasonably priced and service was good. We would definitely return.

Me and my husband live very close to this pub...only recently we started using it...not sure about inside but loved the garden especially the covered tables (would be great to have more than 3 especially due to the unpredictable British weather). Great food and affordable prices. Really loved it ❤. Update: had a massive chicken roast lunch and a sticky toffee ...I feel like i ate for the entire week 🤣🤣🤣. Really big portions and very tasty too.

Pretty quiet, welcoming, clear with instructions, speedy dinner. The only strange thing was that the drinks were brought without the bottles and the glasses were half full, and it made us question in our minds whether we received all of the liquids in the bottles of J2O and 50:50 apple. 6 of us came in for dinner...including 3 kiddies. I think this was one of the most friendliest places we have been in. The lady that greeted us...I think was Lucy..was amazing from the initial meeting to when we left . Another superstar there was I think the lady called Jo..nothing was too much trouble for these ladies and all the other members of staff. Thank you all...such a shame we live in Southampton as we would definitely make this our local.

Having travelled back today of holiday looked forward to having a lovely Sunday lunch close to home decided on the barn owl have always had a good experience here Tried for 20 minutes whilst travelling up the motorway to check availability kept telling us to hold on still no one answered so just called in Very obliging lady who found us a table ordered roast beef x 2 and a extra portion of cauliflower cheese what a big disappointment 3 very small carrots the size of my thumb nail teaspoon if cabbage which was all stalk unable to eat 3 roast potatoes partly cooked and red connection maybe red cabbage very spicy ugh quite honestly a spoon of peas would have been better if wasent for the extra I paid for cauliflower cheese our plates were minus veg Considering today was your Christmas showcase based on this lunch j no no no

It's been a couple of years since my last visit, mainly because it was dreadful last time. I was reluctant to go for lunch today but its close to home and has an outdoor play area for the children so it was the logical choice. I'm really glad that we did. The standards have been raised significantly in every aspect of the restaurant. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, I noted how kind they were to our children too by providing colouring sheets/paper and pens/pencils and even a lolly pop. The menu was a nice surprise with a good variety that also catered for vegi/vegans with more than just the usual predictably dull salad or pasta. The jackfruit burger was absolutely delicious, as was the tagine (tasted home made). I'm really glad we called in today and we'll definitely be back. I'm not sure what or who is responsible for turning this place around but they've done a really great job!

Went yesterday the 10th of August in the afternoon, we were greeted by a beautiful smile and a friendly hello and shown straight to our table our waiter introduced him self to us his name was Peter, we were given the paper menu and asked what drinks we would like, we gave our drink order and started to look at the menu our drinks arrived and we were left to browse the menu. we decided to go for the shared onion rings to start they were perfect and came with a BBQ sauce, my husband chose the chicken marsala with rice and nann bread and it also had a poppadom it came BEAUTIFULLY presented and he could cut the chicken with his fork it was that tender, I chose the gammon with egg and pineapple chips and pea's it was cooked to PERFECTION the chips were crispy and fluffy inside, egg cooked perfectly. While enjoying our meal all areas were clean and tidy to a very high standard, outside was busy as children are on 6 weeks holiday but to be honest you wouldn't of heard them and we didn't till we went out for a cigarette. We wanted a pudding but couldn't fit it in but I was sure you could order and take them home I was right so we ordered the chocolate fudge cake and the lemon cake all boxed up for us to take home. If I could give more star's on here I would it was PERFECT.

Lovely large outdoor seating area, with some under hear lamps whilst others are under lovely secluded cover, think giant barrels with chairs in). Staff were superb, ensuring that a highchair was ready when we arrived (it was requested with the booking) Facilities were clean, oh and the food was nice, large portions and definitely filled the hole. A little wait time to get in despite booking, also had to wait for our food due to a high volume of customers. They advised that food would be delayed due to the amount of customers been served, but it arrived hot despite taking about an hour. Was disappointed that a couple of items were not available on the dessert menu, one which was planned to be ordered. Overall great service and the food was nice.

It's very hard to give an accurate judgement of a restaurant whilst covid restrictions are in place, but for a rainy Monday night, the pub was reasonably busy. We booked a table in advance to eat inside. A member of staff met us at the door, took us through track and trace and showed us to our table. Each table and chairs were sanitised between customers. The staff were all excellent, very friendly, efficient and helpful. The food is basic, but all our meals came out piping hot. I did have an issue with one meal, but the waitress sorted it quickly, and a fresh meal was bought out in a very short time. If you just want an easy relaxing straightforward meal, then I recommend, if you're looking for something a little more exciting, then probably not the place to go. Also, I found the drinks a little on the pricey side. 5 stars for staff though.

First time visit here today. All three main beef roasts were not as hot as they should be. Very little veg and Yorkshire puddings were flat. But the steak and ale pie was nice. I'm sure this is just a blip with not being reopened for a while. Nicely distanced with restrictions in place. The reason for the three stars is that we have been a few places in the last week and this one did not really compare to the others with the food standards.

First time here today and not very impressed, all beef Sunday roast were not hot. The steak pie was nice apparently. There wasn't much veg and we had pancakes not Yorkshire puddings lol. What a great place. Great service. Good quality and Good sized portions. Good beer. A nice big garden with a good play area. We arrived at about 8:30 on a Sat evening and were served within 20 mins. Why not 5 stars? 2 out of 3 beers were off. Ordered the extra chips but I had to remind the server when they didn't arrive. Apparently you have to get your own cutlery and sauces as nothing was brought to the table. The locals were a bit loud and may not be acceptable for little sensitive ears. This will be our pub of choice for the summer!

Conveniently located quite close to Premier Inn where I also stayed. The food here is great quality and prices are very fair indeed. I was so satisfied there with our evening meal, I went back on Sunday for lunch. Staff are very friendly and helpful and tables are nicely spaced out presumably because of COVID. They also have a nice beer garden at the rear. From the Premier inn its only a 15 min walk if you didn't want to drive there. All in all a very pleasurable experience.

I've been here a few times and overall I've had good experiences. The food isn't going to blow you away but it is great value. Most times I've visited I've had a burger and chips and it's been good. The staff are friendly and quite quick to serve. To avoid disappointment I'd stay away from any full price main menu items.

We found that the speed and quality of service in this huge pub/restaurant was really good. It's very well run and the food is of good quality. It's particularly good for families, but also good for those without children. Good for a bit of food or drink before the rugby and the table service for drinks as well as food. Great pub with a large choice of food which is reasonably priced. Nice beer garden. One negative point was that the staff had lost the key to the disabled lift which made getting to the toilet troublesome. If that glitch was fixed I'd recommend this pub as a good accessible venue.

Pudding was nice, although we had to find different choices as a few items were not available due to how popular this place is. No biggie though. Extensive menu and being 2 for 1 excellent value.With 5 of us eating mains and desserts and not one complaint what more can I say. Visited with my in-laws for Sunday lunch, so four adults and four kids. Overall seems a nice place and there is a play area outside; unfortunately it was chucking it down with rain while we were there so the kids didn't get to try it out. On the day we visited they'd had someone phone in sick and had only put enough staff on to cover the lunch bookings in the first place, so service was very slow. It must have taken about ten minutes for our drinks order to turn up and we were waiting over an hour for our food. Fortunately we'd brought things to keep the kids entertained. The food, when it arrived, was good. My wife and I took advantage of a two mains for £12 deal; my wife felt that she'd have been somewhat disappointed at the portion size had she been paying the regular price for her roast lamb. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that the main service issues were down to being short staffed, hence the four stars rather than three. I would be willing to eat here again.

Not necessarily bad, but certainly not great either. Obviously not enough staff by a long chalk ...or they were off hiding somewhere. Long wait to be seated, staff members passed several times and ignored us each time and then we were just sent to one end of the pub to ask anyone we came across. Numerous empty tables but none cleared. The food is basic - the menu makes it sound more appealing than it actually is when it arrives. Our waitress was friendly and helpful but obviously very tired.

On Fathers day 2017 we went out as a family for our Sunday lunch the meals were superb and the service was exceptional the staff were friendly and very helpful everyone enjoyed themselves. The refurbishment of the seating area is lovely and the colour scheme is nice and light. However when having the refurbishment done wouldn't it have been an ideal solution to put air conditioning throughout, so not only the the customers were uncomfortable with the heat , the staff were extremely busy and look so hot and uncomfortable.. Surely if you appreciate both your customers and staffs welfare it would definately benefit INSTALLING AIR CONDITIONING THROUGHOUT keeping both you staff and customers happy. Having said this we couldn't fault the meals and service. Many thanks.

Food same old, same old for a chain. Ranch chicken came out very dry, complained and the meal was refunded without any questions. Steak and ale pie, was average, but edible, chips light and fluffy. Staff pleasant and helpful, but the place just lacked any atmosphere. (Half resturant was waitress, half order at the bar). Sorry just not one we'd go back to.

Perfect for family get togethers with small children. We attended here as a party of 14 including a 2yr old. Service was prompt bar the wait of 1 pizza. Honestly if I could give this place more than 5 stars I would! I'm not one for giving reviews but this place blew me away with not only the food but the service, atmosphere and the very friendly staff. It's been ages if ever I have experience service like this and seriously I honestly think other food place could learn a lot from Barn Owl. We came here for a celebration meal as my daughter finished primary school (yr6 to secondary school) and loves everything she had! she's also a fussy eater. This place went above and behond and we will definitely be going back. Food was reasonably priced which is so surprising as this quality food some places cost at least double if not treble. Thank you Barn Owl for the amazing experience and will definitely be seeing you soon.

Very good food (tasty and huge portions) for very reasonable prices. It was Halloween and they had a quiz on, so it was packed with very few tables available, so the staff were obviously struggling a bit with the numbers. As a result there was quite a wait for the food - our friends who ordered separately had finished their food before ours arrived - and unfortunately something was missed from the order. That being said the server corrected it before we had a chance to make anyone aware of it, and we ended up with more food than we actually had paid for because of the error, so hats off to the staff. They were also very polite and friendly, despite how busy it was. Overall, the staff did admirably well on such a busy night, and the food was really great for the money. We'll definitely go again in future, it's just unfortunate that everyone clearly had the same clever idea as us tonight!

We decide to head to the Barn Owl as The Swan in Martin Hassingtree had a 1-hour food wait on a Sunday evening (despite it being empty!). We are very glad we came to the Barn Owl, the waitress was attentive and very quick to ask us for drinks and our food order. Food arrived very swiftly, warm and very delicious! We had Nachos to share, my wife then had an XL chicken burger and I had a mega chilli cheese burger, we followed it up with a Leon sundae and lemon cheesecake. The whole meal was very good and the food plus 2 drink refills came to £37! Only REAL thing I could pick at was service was a little slow at the end, but we tipped anyway because our waitress was very good overall :)

Love this place as a great pub restaurant for affordable classic food. Treated the family to an early dinner yesterday, my lad had the new mega chilli cheese burger...he was not disappointed, juicy all beef patties and crispy chicken with a tangy sauce and brie dippers on the top....nom nom😀 the rest of the party were well placated with an array of fish dishes and pizza. The only criticism is that the coleslaw is a little bland and could be easily remedied with the application of a dollop of mustard. On the whole the portions are well sized, come to the table piping hot and they have a good range of midweek offers for all, well done Marston's!
