Reviews of The Swan at Whittington

Love the spaciousness and seating options indoors and out. They managed to make casual into a classic meeting place that could easily become a favorite for families, business meetings and passers through. My Eggs Royale were good and I appreciated that they were flexible on letting me tweak things to my liking: putting the Hollandaise on the side, letting me switch out the English muffin for granary slices. The poached eggs were timed to treacly yolk perfection. A bit stingy on the smoked salmon and no fresh squeezed juices on the (breakfast/brunch) menu. My oat milk flat white lacked the pretty flair of barista art flourish so common place today, but was satisfactory enough. If I had been seated where I wanted, up front by the window rather than told there was a staff meeting going on, I may have leaned into a conservative four stars here. I then asked to be seated away from other guests and ended in the back room which looked to be a well positioned, discreet spot for staff chats and meetings. Customers first, right? And, Back room business should, after all, be kept in its rightful place.

Leaving do for a colleague. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Clearly all home made. Service was good and staff friendly.

Food is nicer than your average pub chain but the service isn't.
Been here a few times recently and there is a distinct lack of warmth from any of the staff - every time it feels like they're doing you a favour by letting you eat there. Like you're in the way a bit.
A shame as it used to be a lovely place to visit, but now we won't be coming back any time soon - there are so many other independent establishments that are more deserving and more happy to receive your custom.

A great place for food and friendly service. Unexpectedly stopped here (after an accident and diversion off the M5) and we had a lovely meal. They had a good and interesting menu and the price was very good too.
Given it's only 1 mile from M5 Jct 7, we will now make this our stop off from the motorway again (instead of the services).
Great pub.

Never been before and food tasted great, other people who have been before flat food wasn't quite as good as usual so I imagine it must taste amazing. Was a big group so sent food orders in advance, one meal was missed off so that one was delayed but all other food and drinks came out very timely. If 1 meal hadn't been missed would have been 5 stars

Loved the fish platter for lunch. Staff were attentive. Thank you for a lovely stop off.

Tried this place on a whim while visiting the area. We had the roast dinner with all the meats and trimmings...we were not disappointed! The staff were very attentive and we didn't have to wait for a table even though it was a Sunday and we didn't book in advance. Would definitely go again if I was ever in the area.

Only ordered starters and they were great. Nice bread selection and handmade butter. Chilli and garlic prawns were very tasty too! May need to go back and taste the mains next time!

This is a good pub for meeting friends just off of the motorway. The location is brilliant the food is pretty good and there is a buzzing atmosphere at peak times. It's always busy, so you often have to order at the bar for food and drinks. I've also eaten there twice recently where there were so many chillis in everything it was unnecessarily hot. I lived in South Asia so spice isn't an issue for me, but it was here! That said, a decent lunch spot. Perhaps on the pricier side although food prices are high at the moment.
