Popped in for a bit of food with my girlfriend, we both ordered the mixed grill and it is both huge and amazing! Being the greedy pig that I am I doubled up on the rump steak and struggled to finish it all. It was all beautifully cooked and is possibly the nicest mixed grill I've had. Definitely recommend 🏆

Very friendly staff, nice pub, friendly atmosphere. We booked a table for 6.30, however, it was about an hour after ordering when our main course arrived. My meal was lovely, however my wife's scampi and chips was lacking in quantity of chips, in fact our daughter's kids meal had more, we think they mixed the two portions up. With my daughter's meal they had run out of cucumber battens so swapped for green pepper without asking. It was a shame because it was a nice place. I was a bit disappointed that no discount was offered for the delay meals.

Really good atmosphere with a good choice of food and beer. Busy due to the cup final but found a table without any problems. Service wasn't quick but not a problem as we had plenty of time to watch the match!

The fact that it was very busy midweek on Wednesday and Thursday evenings shows its popularity. We were staying just over the road at the Holiday Inn and after eating in their restaurant on our first night, we decided to try the Cross Keys. We phoned to pre book our table and when we arrived, a nice table for 2 was reserved for us by the window. We enjoyed our first meal so much we reserved a table for the next evening on our way out. Nice atmosphere even though it was packed on the 2nd night with a large group of boisterous men on the table next to us. Good pub food at reasonable prices and great service by Billy. Highly recommend if you're staying at the Holiday Inn.

Chose the Cross keys as a camper stopover as it is right next to the racecourse where we planned to do York Parkrun. The food we had was really tasty, especially the mixed grill which was cooked perfectly and was great value. Good range of drinks and even karaoke for entertainment. Already recommended to someone else 👍

Smart looking, very clean and tidy with comfortable furniture, large, quality and well positioned TV's offering both BT and Sky Sport. Regular Live Music shows, prompt and excellent service from all staff. Dog friendly in a very positive way. Only weakness is the food, therefore very close enough the full five stars

Nice but nothing special with food. I had the steak sandwich with chips. Friend had a steak and another a salmon and cheese sandwich. The surroundings were clean and pleasant. Nicely decorated. Young lady on the bar was smiley and nice which is always good. Cant knock the service. Thank you. She was helpful with my friends dietary requirements too. Keep hold of her I say! Only a 4 star as no wow factor on the food.

Free motorhome parking. Fantastic meal with some good ales to boot. Bus stops right outside, less than 10mins to city centre. Excellent place with lovely friendly atmosphere!

Would recommend the lamb and blue cheese burger, served with lots of coleslaw and a variety of lettuce, chips are basic (frozen) . All meals priced competitively, good selection of menu choices, good range of drink options.

Have a decent choice of drinks (not alot for ale drinkers, only saw 1 ale). We went there for a party/reception and the buffet food was nice and the staff were friendly. Only downside was the tables were so wobbly, we had to swap a table out for another as you could literally spin it around due to the legs not touching the floor so the table was balanced on the centre pole.

Popped in for a drink and a quick bite to eat. I was confronted with the busiest pub I had seen for the last 18 months and thought "no chance!" The landlord and barmaid went out of their way to 'magically' find a seat tucked out of the way in a corner where I enjoyed this secret hospitality. I had the meat pie and it was one of the best I have ever had. The pastry was a work of art, but alas I had to cut into it - the contents were piping hot and the meat was totally tender. The bill was very reasonable too - a surprising gem just outside York.

O dear. We chose to eat here because they have a decent looking vegetarian selection: not great but at least there's a choice. We ordered a glass of wine each & had to send back the red as it was badly off. That can happen anywhere from a bottle that's been open a while. We were then told there was no halloumi available, which meant that 66% of the vegetarian options were not being served. The camembert was also unavailable. So we chose a chickpea & sweetcorn veggie burger. Neither of these were cooked properly & had the consistency of baby food in the middle. On the plus side, the serving of chips was massive. The decor is quite nice & they accept dogs. Service was slow though. All in all, not somewhere to recommend.

Finished my training course early so had a 5 hour wait for my train, thought I'd find a local pub to kill sometime, walked into york city centre and found the cross keys. Friendly staff, great service nice relaxing pub. I'd recommend this to anyone. Wasn't expecting to spend 4 hours in there but i did. One of the nicest pubs I've been to 👍

Great Thursday afternoon jazz sessions with full houses. But, not enough turnover for the pub so the jazz moved down the road to the Dringhouses Sports Club, St Helen's Road, YO24 1HR. Every Thursday 1.00 to 3.30 pm

We come to visit 4x a year and eat here a lot. Don't know what's happened since last year, but the food is not the same standard. My husband looked forward to their steak pie and they were the only reason we left our cabin on a Sunday.... for lunch. Well sadly that won't be happening again 😕. The pie was mostly mince and a couple of small chunks of steak and the Sunday lunch....someone from Yorkshire needs to teach the cook how to make Yorkshire pudding 😱😱 and on a personal note...I can't abide deep fried roasties...disappointed

Standard pub grub, nice staff and a large car park. Meals are huge and veggie options which can easily be made vegan. Good prices reflect average quality. Clean and well decorated. Standard range of beers and other drinks.

A standard pub that is exactly what you would expect, no more, no less. You get what you pay for and that's not bad thing. I ordered a scampi with chips and that came in a basket with a decent side salad. My companions had the homemade pie which had very generous helpings of meat stashed inside. In short, reasonable prices and decent service.

Just been for Sunday Lunch, and it was great. Food was really tasty, and was a very generous portion with lots of veg. Good service and friendly staff. The Covid control measures are really good - temperature taken on arrival, hand sanitiser available, tables marked as clean, table service, staff wearing ppe. All very re-assuring, and done well.

Absolutely nice athmosphere! Very stylish design so you can feel like at home. A lot of people coming there for Sunday lunch and dinner. Nice roasts and all food as I tried some from my friends. I can recommend this place especially for people who stay in hotels close to the pub.

The pub itself is nice and tidy with friendly staff and adequate parking facilities and seating. We ordered food and it was delivered promptly, however the burgers were VERY pink inside and looked awful. They explained this was because the chef puts ketchup in the mince when they are made (?). We were given the options having them cooked longer (but they said they couldn't cook them for much longer) or replacement meals. They did offer us a desert for everyone as compensation but we were pressed for time so we had to refuse. The bar staff did bring us £20 to buy drinks as an alternative because we were in a rush. All in all I would be cautious regarding the food, especially the burgers. I wouldn't say avoid, just rather check your food as it could have been a one off.

Only downside was it was so noisy in there because of wedding guests meeting there before a wedding but to be fair the people behind the bar did warn us before we ordered that they would be coming in its just a shame the wedding guests were not respectful if people eating and stood right next to out table.

stayed at holiday inn over the road for 3 days, really lovely, welcoming pub, really nice friendly staff, very welcoming pub and staff. the gammon and goats cheese quiche was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. friendly pub welcomes dogs too, nice cosy calm atmosphere. reasonably priced too.

Found this after a long day of travel and sightseeing. Absolutely the best local fare we've ordered so far in England. Delicious food (order something with brown gravy and you can't go wrong), excellent beers, my kids even ate vegetables. And the bartender's personal playlist is the best I've heard in a long time. Would move to the neighborhood if we could.

Absolutely spot on.Just had Sunday lunch I had one complaint TO LARGE PORTIONS. I eat a little and often so I.m afraid Sunday lunch was over the top for me but I tasted most things and it was excellent but I really could.nt do it justice. I will be back and will order a small portion. My daughter ate most of hers but even she had to leave a little. Thank you to Peter the chef and unfortunately I dont know the name of the young waitress but she will know who I mean. THANK YOU.
