Me and my friend came for the night after searching online for places to go drinking. This place popped up and knew we had to make a visit, so glad we did music is fantastic!! Drinks amazing and the decor inside was amazing!!

Quiet for a Sunday evening but music was great and we drank the night away with cocktails! One of the bar staff was training and offered us a selection of complimentary cocktails to try!! Worth a visit!!

Amazing cocktails and half price on Thursdays. No idea why it's not busier it's a gem of a place and a beautiful building. Always our go to when visiting the city. Edit- looking at the photos on their Facebook page it clearly gets busy, if you are a bit older like me, go early on a Thursday when it's not busy then be tucked up in bed when it gets busy! Edit- went again whilst visiting the city last month. Had about 10 different cocktails between the 2 of us and none were as good or the same as previous visits. The cocktail itself seemed to be made differently and not as tasty and bits missing e.g. the fun bits you get on the side like chocolate and marshmallows not toasted etc

Excellent cocktails and were available 2 for 1 (and didn't have to be the same). Loved that the original church structure was intact and made a feature of. Unfortunately was only able to visit in the early evening but would have liked to have stayed later.

Had the best time for my friends birthday on Saturday, we booked the vip and I can not tell you how happy we where with the service. Smiles all round from bar staff, the girls behind the bar where incredible. Very good prices and good music. Big thank you to the female bouncer who HAD to tell us the night was over for us (a few too many cocktails in) she did look after us and sent us safely on our way! We will be back 🎉

Great atmosphere not too expensive for drinks music is good very particular about who they let in, it's a big place, inside is a modern setting used to be a church so not a place to go if you like quiet but it's a decent place.

The cocktails here are extremely well made and make a great drink out - be it day or night. The speciality cocktails (like the christmas menu) are unique and made to the same high quality each time. I haven't been during the night so I'm not sure how it is as a nightclub, however in the evenings the music creates a nice atmosphere.

The interior is amazing and they have really good music. The cocktails are amazing and the bar staff are really friendly. Unfortunately the door staff the were on when we visited were really rude which kind of ruined the night a bit but other than that it's a great bar in a good location

Jalou, Newcastle is my fav cocktail bar in the country. Popped in here to try the Halloween menu. Nothing was set up. Barman didn't know how to make them. They eventually managed to get them together and gave us then for free for the hassle. When I'm in York, I will be back. Super friendly staff and if the cocktails are the same quality as Newcastle then I'm happy!

My partner and are visiting York and wanted something not too cosy since Covid-19 is lurking and it was a busy Friday night. Jalou venue is an old church so interesting and spacious. We liked the neon lighting. Their Covid safety measures were good, venue clean and attentive customer service. Booking online was easy. I asked for a quiet table which they accommodated. Although sweet cocktails and DJ sets are not our usual scene we had a great evening.

This bar is in what used to be a church. Has an amazing and varied cocktail menu. Some of the cocktails are quite fancy so it can take a while to get served. But they are definitely worth the wait. Has a varied music selection and a small dance floor. The toilets are also very clean!

Stumbled upon this place by chance. The door staff used their discretion wisely imo as I wasn't dressed for a cocktail bar but they still had the heart to let me and my good lady in for a couple of cold beers. Lovely ambience with great lighting.

Great venue to visit on a night out. Although there are sometimes queues to get in, you're never waiting more than 10 minutes for entry. Inside there is a large selection of drinks, which are neither expensive or cheap. Music choice is usually pretty decent too.

Was nice to go to but wasnt really ready for what yorks nightlife is like as we are more used to Wakefields which ends up being packed with younger people whereas york had a lot of older people going out and was alot more spaced out which is bad when you cant dance have no rythm or balance. Its cool its in a old church aswell.

Seems to be a very popular bar with a range of different people. Its a converted church so a bit different to your regular bars. Reasonable priced drinks and food but can get really busy late on. A must visit if your going to York .
