Reviews of Pear Tree Farm - Dining & Carvery
T.
Very nice carvery, much better quality of veg than similar carvery chain such as Toby Carvery. Couldn't fault anything, food hot, fresh and tasty, pleasant surroundings, helpful, friendly and attentive staff, even though it was extremely busy, they were still on top of service. Food amazingly priced for portion and quality. Can recommend. Also, if you're ordering pudding, they give you a takeaway box, as the cake portions there are unbelievably huge!!! Will be returning for more soon.

I ate here because I was working away and staying in the nearby travelodge. I had the small carvery which I thought was a decent portion for me for £5.49 I absolutely couldn't complain. Meats were really nice. As were the vegetables. I did decide to indulge with a hot chocolate fudge cake for dessert though as I'd had a hard day and needed the chocolate fix... Well, I got more than I bargained for, I was a bit surprised that the portion was bigger than my head! Then I relied it actually stayed the calories on the menu...something like 1430! I guess that should have been the giveaway that it was going to be a big portion. But the price was decent for such a massive dessert! Needless to say I couldn't finish it but it was absolutely divine anyway! I came back a second evening and had a small carvery again which I had been looking forward to all day! It didn't disappoint, everything was cooked exactly as I like it. This time I decided to have two scoops of Belgian chocolate ice-cream for dessert. Again, it did not disappoint apart from they served it as if I was getting it to take out in a little tub. That was the only thing. Maybe it was because they had just served some take away ice-creams before me or maybe I should have specificied my table number. Either way I took it back to my table and enjoyed it nonetheless. The service was great and I would have been back a third night if I was staying here for longer for work. And if it wasn't for the fact I was up and out too early in the morning I would have gotten my breakfast here too!

Came for Sunday lunch today, it was beautiful. The place was rammed but despite not booking in advance, Matt managed to sort us a table in no time while juggling tables for other families simultaneously. Service was quick from the bar and despite the long queue for carvery, the quality made up for it. Will definitely be returning.

I've been here a few times.
Some parts have good air con and other parts don't seem to- which works because some people like and some dislike air con.
Carvery is nice.
Order and pay at the bar.
Low to mid price. Food tasted good and was fine for the prices.
Would go again.

Called in for breakfast several times over the past few weeks, as working locally. The meat items in particular are of much better quality than those offered by other local establishments. Everything else offered on the buffet breakfast was cooked well and tasted absoultely fine!
It's a buffet breakfast for £6.99, I don't see how anyone can complain, but you always seem to get some 🤦🏻♂️ If you are wanting a breakfast with all the best ingredients and so on then go somewhere where it's £12 for a plate!
If working locally will definitely be back again thank you Pear Tree team!

Excellent place. It’s a tightly run ship - the front of house gent we saw was brilliant. He understood when we apologised for been late for our booking which he’d had to let go (long distance and had tried to call to advise, but no answer) we also understood why he had to let the table go. Food was fabulous and though the queue was long, the staff were pleasant and efficient. Well done!

Nice enough place, but man was it busy for the carvery - rammed is the word. We had booked ahead and ordered off the app, normal menu, as the queue was so long, so meal was fine in that respect. Those waiting on the carvery were stil waiting by the time we'd finished.
Staff were great & really trying, but they need more help. You could tell they were really under pressure, and rightly so.
I don't know what the magic ingredient is in their carvery, but more staff is needed to deliver it.

Sunday carvery was amazing and the service excellent. Even on a busy day the lad who seated us was super helpful. I think he name was Hayden. He went out of his way to find us a quiet table for our autistic son.

Only came here after being told a one hour wait for a table at the nearby Toby carvery. Thank goodness for that! Carvery meal was spot on, delicious meats and a good selection of veg. Unfortunately we were too full for a pudding, the size of the cakes will blow your mind! Staff very friendly and helpful, plenty of space even at 5 on a Saturday. Will definitely be back.

After an amazing weekend in sunny Yorkshire we stayed at the Travel Lodge, Monks Cross, just across the carpark is the Pear Tree Farm pub, so we decided to go for a cooked breakfast and what a great decision it was too, there are two people who deserve a mention, the Chef Mark and server Matt were excellent. You can't beat a good full English breakfast in a morning 😋. Eggs both fried and scrambled, sausage, bacon, black pudding, tomatoes, hash browns, mushrooms, beans and toast..... beautiful 😍 Thank you Pear Tree Farm.

Not visited the place for months and arrived, im guessing between lunch and dinner. The tables were half full and we could chose anywhere to sit. The place was clean and friendly enough however, it was when we arrived at the carvery that things went down hill. There was a tiny piece of beef left that looked very dried out (usually a new joint is in position by this point at places like the Riverside), the girl serving had a white bandage wrapped around her hand (no glove covering it) and most of the side dishes were dried out and ready for the bin. The carrot and swede mash was amazing however.
I would definitely not rush back for a while as there are so many other places around.

It was a very busy day, and the manager did proffer his support to our large group. But. Missed my starter, then provided it without accompaniments. The main course had chewy sprouts, roast potatoes a million miles from the advertised "crispy", an awful cabbage concoction, overcooked peas and watery pureed carrot and suede. The Christmas pudding was stodgy and amorphous.
The turkey, beef and Yorkshire pudding was quite nice though.
And it was cheap.

Pear tree farm was very bizzy our daughter took us here for a treat. The place it's self is light and airy even though the place was full the noise level was very good. The food was amazing had a breakfast very well cooked. Staff were very polite and not frazzled at all.
G. S.
We had the carvery got our meat but got to the veg and the green beans and the Brussels were dried out so in edible. Asked for fresh and neither veg was available and had to wait approx 3 minutes for the green beans and was told we would have to wait a further 4 minutes for the Brussels. When we were asked whether the carvery was ok my wife told him the veg issue he just said OK and walked off without even an apology.

Visited twice last week whilst on holiday.menu selection very good. Carvery excellent. Couple of small problems due to supply issues. Staff excellent. Would highly recommend to all.

Came in today and the food was amazing! Pretty quiet for a Friday but exactly what we like. Service was quick and team was friendly. Can’t fault it, defo will be returning
S. C.
Recently came in for a meal with my family all the staff was so lovely and helpful ,asked if everything was okay with our food, can’t fault it at all. Hayden was especially helpful with answering our questions and giving me the best service.

1hr and 40 min drive but its the Best carvery ive ever had and the deserts were fantastic. Tried a pub from the same group more local to home a week later and in comparison was abysmal.
T. B.
As always good food. Packed but Sundays always are. One thing if managers read this offer the upgrade for the mega soft drink never got told and forgot I woukd have taken the option but as I say always good
K. N.
Food was good, approx 30 min wait and it was extremely busy. I was missing a fork and when I had to take one from another table it was damaged which was a disappointment but overall it has improved.
Spider webs in corner above light to the ceiling which was annoying
I would recon

Turned away from Toby carvery as they had an 1.5 hr wait, turned up at the door greeted straight away, by a friendly member of staff, purchased the ultimate carvey and it did not disappoit. The meat and loaded up as well as x5 Yorkshire puds, absolute bonus, also got a cake away, but no room left at writing this review but I feel like I am going to roll to the car.
Thank you 😊

It’s one of those great neighborhood restaurant; very friendly staff and good service! The whole restaurant with social distancing in place with one way in and exits flows! We had the carvery with roast beef and turkey with all the delicious side and the Yorkshire pudding is light and fluffy covered with lovely gravy. The chip shop supper meal which is freshly prepared is yummy. The portions is Worth the price and for sure will visit again! They also serve buffet breakfast until 11am.

Went on a Sunday lunch - it was packed to the rafters. The queue for the carvery was way to long - to be expected. Ordered from the bar - easily and quick . Food arrived only 10 mins later which I thought was very good.

Usually impressed as I go here very often but this time the turkey from the carvery was extremely dry as were the roast potatoes. Everything else was delicious though

Came here for lunch with my grandma and mum and the staff were extremely accomidating for my dietary requirements. Got chatting with the lovely lad who was serving us Hayden who also ensured we got a quiet table as my grandma is hard of hearing. Food was great and staff are lovely will definitely be back .
N. M.
The service and food was amazing! The staff are very polite especially Jo who went above and beyond and was very helpful. Will definitely revisit after this experience.
M. W.
The carvery is lacklustre, with not many options for your meal. Those present are usually either over or undercooked. Seats are rock hard. Chronically understaffed - especially on the main bar. WiFi still doesn't work after all these years. How disappointing.
D. T.
Good food as normal, only thing that spoilt the visit was other diners who's foul language was un called for, would have changed tables but only large table available in family area. Keep up the good work.
I. D.
Lack of mash and roast potatoes on the carvery. Veg that was on display did not look very appetising but tasted OK.. Turkey, beef and Yorkshire puds were great.
N. F.
Forgot to cook one person's meal so she did not get hers until everyone else had finished. Told to get carvery ad other meals on way but I had finished when others arrived. Only beef left so no choice. Very unorganised. They did give us a piece of cake free.
D. P.
Very nice lunch today, The food was fresh and hot. Welcoming and efficient service even though it was very busy. Thanks Sam and Fiona.

People often ask me where the best place to eat in york is. I will tell them various places, but never pear tree...
This is because pear tree is not a place to eat. It is a place to live. To be alive. To feel connected to something more than yourself.
The tables layed out in a welcoming way, to which they almost seem like a group of old friends, loitering in a circle, with a gap just enough for you to join in. The food, delivered with such speed, without losing grace, to be devoured... the recipient savouring every last bite.
You've finished your food. The chorus is over and now the warm cavern clay walls bring light to your conversations, as the outro plays.
Outside it is cold. But in here... thinks are different. This is not a restaurant, but the last bastion of hope and joy which Shields patrons from the raging, tearing world beyond. None of that matters at pear tree. Everything moves... slower. And for a brief moment.
You feel like you are exactly where you need to be...

After a busy day shopping in York, clifton Moor and monks cross this was the only place we could get in for food out of all the restaurants at clifton Moor and monks cross (excluding fast food) and for what it is it was good! Very busy but food was good!

Beautiful carvery, stayed at travelodge but ate just over the way at the pub, very friendly and efficient service, staff cannot do enough for you, cakes and puddings come with enormous portions, had to take some away in a carton, everything was 5 star, will definitely be in there if we are over this way again, this review is from myself, husband, and 2 friends who accompanied us .
d. l.
Roast potatoes were chewy and not vegetarian. Poor selection of tastless watery frozen veg. An only one Yorkshire pudding offered. Quite disappointing
E. P.
Scruffy place, could do with a good clean. Food service was slow. The quantity of food over shadows the poor quality of food. Over cooked vegetables. Certainly won't be going there again. VERY DISAPPOINTED 😥
J. M.
Very busy when we went, but the service was excellent, had to queue for food but plenty of staff on,so the queue moved quickly, good selection of drinks and desserts,

Staff are very polite and welcoming, clean and very tidy. Food was amazing with a great selection to choose from.

Went on a Sunday so was very busy but got a table fairly quickly in the family area, great selection of veggies and meat. There is a reasonable size play area for the kids which is great for the little ones. The deserts are amazing and great value for money the only downfall was the toilets they were very dirty we did tell one of the staff members about it but nothing was done
D. W.
Went there for Christmas day dinner, even though it was very busy the staff were exceptional and the food was very good x
S. G.
Just yummy, yes we queued, but well worth it, thought they where tight with meat, but actually was just enough.
J. B.
Always reasonably priced with good food and a wide selection. Biggest cakes I've ever seen as well available for take away!
Also do an amazing Sunday roast of all sizes depending on how ravenous you are feeling.
A. S.
Used to be excellent but recently menu choices have been limited and many items unavailable
j. m.
Went in for all you can eat breakfast. Lovely grub. Only niggle was the fried eggs being a little over done. But all in all 5 stars.
A. A.
Perhaps could have done with a little more meat but as a whole was completely satisfied. The management were excellent, bar staff too, food, well I've not seen as many vegetables served anywhere & all cooked perfectly. Deserts were plentiful & delicious also, only complaint really was not enough wheelbarrows to get patrons back to their cars & off the premises.
P. j. S.
First trip back after COVID had small carvery and was not disappointed Great food had Turkey from a choice of Gammon / Beef , with a pile of vegetables , mash /roast potatoes/red cabbage , parsnips & Carrots with 2 or 3 others I had no room on my plate for but did have a yorkshire pudding and pigs in blankets ,Staff were great and service was very good will be going again great venue
A. C.
We had quite a crowd of young adults gathered for a Carvery meal and we were all well taken care of.
We had extra help from Matt, the manager, with drinks and desserts. Overall; it was our best Carvery experience in the UK!

All you can eat breakfast £6.99 unlimited coffee £1.99.
All the regular breakfast items to fill the most hungry.
If you don't want rubber egg's you have to ask for them to be cooked soft.(I like mine soft) plenty of coffee, but never seems hot.
I've come here for a lot of years.the food never really hot
Farmers cart at wiggington cooks to order sausages taste meaty and not cheap food always hot. Same price for beast breakfast (not a buffet)
Pear tree staff very pleasant.
If you want quality there are better places.if you want volume
This is the place to come.
Happy eating

Value for money.Good service. My gammon had some fat on it but that was easily cut off with my nice sharp knife. I will have to go back the cakes looked delicious.
A. H.
We came for lunch on 27th July 2022, my meal, Lasagna was very nice, but my husband had fish and chips which he said the fish was too much very greasy batter and barley any fish, he also had the fruit crumble which he said was very stodgy, hence only 3 stars. The staff however were very attentive.
G. C.
Nice food. Little free play area for the kids away from the main bar. Good price for the carvery especially through the week.
L. T.
All the 3 pints of cask beers we tried were stale and after complaining, they were all taken off sale. We were given half pints of Guinness instead which we thought had been watered down as it wasn't a creamy head as you normally get with Guinness. They didn't have any onion rings so it was subbed with macaroni cheese. Baked beans and macaroni cheese were dry and sticky.
Staff were good though.
Won't be going back.
L. S.
Never disappointing. Their Carvery is our default location whenever we have family travel to see us in York.
I always recommend booking in advance for weekends as it is that popular.
S.
Went to pear tree farm today with family. We were greeted by very polite gentleman at the door even sorted a table for us with no fuss. We didn't catch his name and the rest of the staff were polite aswell.
f. b.
Very helpful staff.
We both had small carvery, ample meat and there was a very good variety of vegetables
A. C.
Plenty of choice we had carvery was very nice ,friendly and polite staff greeted us and asked if all we had to eat was ok ,that's a Plus in my opinion.
s. m.
Omg the carvery. Best I have ever had. Absolutely gorgeous!
C. A.
Very good food reasonable prices carvery was lovely 7.99 for standard if I remember right will be going again next time shopping in monks cross highly recommend
V. P.
Not the greatest food, carvary was bland but I know they do the best deserts. Didn't indulge this time but will definitely go again. A lot for your money
x.
Lovely meal and great service, food was good and more than generous portions.
P. B.
The carvery is to die for. Or it was in September 2021. 100% a fantastic customer experience
S. R.
Incredibly busy had to forgo the carvery as queue was do long. No Yorkshire's!!! Shock horror lol
Staff lovely
C. M.
Clipping great carvery, friendly staff and was still served realtively quickly despite it being busy.
A. M.
Always nice to come here to eat. Good service wonderful quality food, and always full when eaten your meal
A. T.
Well, we usually go to the carvery at the humber bridge but having been in York today we decided to give this branch a try. Twas a little strange at first as the building and layout are identical but as such, the food was equally as good.
The staff were all friendly and helpful. Connor, our server, was welcoming and courteous and set a very pleasant tone for our meal.
The food itself was very good today. Having had a bit of each meat I am struggling to decide on my favourite. They (beef, ham, pork, and turkey) were all cooked beautifully, especially the turkey when you consider how often it dries out on carvery stations. The Yorkshire puds were great and the accompanying vegetables were also very tasty and cooked well, the only exception being some slightly watery broccoli but let's be honest.... I wasn't there for the greens!
The tables are all well spread out with a family section and over 12's section set apart for those who don't want loud kiddos around. We had a tyke with us today so sat in the family area where they had "Finding Dory" playing on a projector. A nice way to keep the little ones occupied and quiet I though!
All in all, a great meal was had with the 3 of us eating and drinking for under £30. The puddings looked lovely but alas, I found myself too full to try one!
TL:DR great food, cheap price, full bellies
J. S.
Friendly place and a good selection of food. Although the carvery may not be available if it has been a popular day.
