Reviews of The Fox And Roman
S. W.
My in laws came from Scotland for a visit and having been to the fox and roman before many times for meals so we went again for a family meal. The food was fabulous and the staff are fantastic, friendly, fun to talk to and very helpful. The portions are very good and the options for meals are good too, the atmosphere is great and you don't feel rushed to have your meal and leave. They are great and make you feel very welcome and if they have a spare moment will happily chat with you and even take photos for you.. I can happily highly recommend the fox and roman for a great meal out, in all our visits there its never been a bad meal or experience. I got pics of some of our dishes

First time here and what a great place. The staff were attentive and polite, we got served as soon as we sat down.
the food was great, arrived within 15 mins of ordering.
Will definitely return.

Amazing pub with great atmosphere!
Mains : We had Sunday roast with Beef Sirloin and Turkey, roast veggies - parsnips, carrots, broccoli, potatoes. It was delicious! Portion was good and too filling.
Dessert : Pudding (Chocolate Brownie with Ice Cream) for dessert was yummy but too rich for my palate! I would certainly recommend this place. Amy was very attentive and looked after us well.
Parking : There is ample parking space behind the pub.
J. H.
Great staff, service excellent. Food good. Reasonable prices. The staff went the extra mile as we had a birthday cake and they gave my friend a birthday card and helped us to sing to her🎶
S. P.
Wow, everything was amazing. Staff were lovely & the food was delicious. Highly recommended & if we return to York, would visit again. Had the festive 3 course meal £23 each.
S. R.
Outstanding Sunday Food! Loved the pub, it was just beautiful.
Pork belly was one of the best I have tasted! Highly recommend 👌 top quality.
A. P.
The food was lovely, the portions are big and we couldn't try the puddings because we were full after starters and mains, but we will try another time. Jamie was amazing, thank you for making our visit the best!
B. H.
Called in on the off-chance, no room in restaurant, but was welcomed into the bar area for a table. It was a Sunday menu, but we chose not to have the roast and settled for fish and chips and aromatic duck salad. Both meals were delicious and the staff were very friendly and attentive. We will definitely return to sample the week-day menu.
s. b.
We had a delicious Sunday roast! Friendly staff and good service. We had a pudding but was a bit overpriced for a small rectangle of sticky toffee pudding, but it was nice.We will definitely go again, but will skip the pud!,

This is a great village-style pub and restaurant.
I came here to eat with my mother, and we noticed first off that they had a fantastic range of dishes. We were tended to by a few waitresses and all were excellent and very welcoming.
The food was really tasty, served without any delays and mains arrived piping hot - we did arrive fairly early admittedly.
Prices are very reasonable considering the great quality of the food we enjoyed. Online booking was very easy and our specific requests for access were readily accomodated.
In short, this seems to be ideal for a casual/evening meal at a good price. Highly recommended.

Lovely good sized gastro pub on the way into York. Great food and well kept beer. I'd recommend
J. W.
Honestly, one of the best Sunday lunch experiences I've ever had. And I can cook and I have visited many many different places over the years.
The only reasons it's not a 5 star review is due to the beef not being pink (or an ask whilst taking the order if rare meat was preferred) and my Auntie got twice the amount of beef on her plate to me. My portion was like a child's portion in comparison. Everything else from starter to dessert and service was great and we will definitely return!

We visited on a Saturday night when it was busy. We were greeted by a young lady who escorted us to our table and took our drinks order. She said our waiter would be with us shortly and to our surprise he was. Tom was excellent. Even though he was busy rushing round keeping tables clean for next customers and looking after them, he was still attentive to us too. A credit to the Fox and Roman. All in all an excellent evening was had with good food and brilliant staff.
R. H.
An excellent pub for dog owners. I had booked a table for two informing them that we would have our digs with us. When we arrived we were shown to our table. Fab menu. We ordered our meals and they arrived. Unfortunately my meal, Kedgeree Fishcakes, was stone cold. Even the waitress couldn't believe how cold it was - every item was cold. This was quickly dealt with and with 5mins a new plate of food was served. Sadly no apologies or offers of compensation in any form. Overall a lovely pub with lovely staff but customer service needs improvement.
B. L.
Excellent atmosphere and the staff were so fun and helpful. I have a gluten intolerance and the waitress that seated and served us was so helpful and went out of her way to make sure everything was okay. The food was delicious and we didn't feel rushed or pressured. I very rarely write reviews for restaurants but the service really stood out for me. Highly recommended!
C. M.
The food and drink were good, most enjoyable, and the staff were welcoming, cheerful and obliging. However, the service was very slow. It was no fault of the staff members, there just weren't enough of them. We were a party of three and occupied a rather awkward table, at the bottom of the stairs, clearly selected as a table really too confined for four, although dimensionally large enough. This location is perhaps better suited to a smaller table, for two, when there would be adequate room for the chairs.
p.
A lovely pub on the main road into York passing the racecourse. Nice buzz when we ate there with friends on Saturday night. Very obliging even when busy, happy to accomodate three separate table for two into a six so we could all sit together! Really nice food, nicely served; well done!
c. w.
Very good experience, ALL Staff were pleasant from start to finish.Food very good ,only complaint : can't take this pub back home with us,THANKS.😀😀😀
D. T.
Great place for a drink or good food Sunday dinner worth trying. Ales and lagers are getting a bit expensive though
D.
Me and a few friends were staying in the holiday inn just across from you. We went for a pint and they gave us a horrific price but directed us to the Fox and Roman. The service was absolutely amazing. We stayed for about an hour and a half. I don't really like anything alcoholic unless it's a fruity cider and the bartender that night was very helpful in choosing a nice drink that I'd enjoy whilst also recommending Mead. We finished and left with smiles on our faces and stumbled back to our hotel to suffer from one of the worst hangovers anyone could have endured but it was definitely worth it! I'd definitely come and visit again the next time I visit York. Thanks for such an amazing atmosphere and an even greater night.
L. W.
Had a lovely meal - my husband the steak and myself the curry. Could not fault it at all. Food was delicious, the pub had a lovely atmosphere and the food was very reasonably priced. The cheesecake was to die for!! Very highly recommend.
S. K.
Amy was an awesome waitress. So cheerful, polite and helpful. The food was good however my Beef Wellington was overcooked. But I didn't specify medium rare so that is partly on me. The atmosphere was great and welcoming. It was crowded but not loud and everyone seemed to be having a wonderful evening. Would recommend to anyone visiting York.
H. N.
I really wanted to leave 5 stars because the food was excellent and they were really hospitable. However, two things really took the shine off our evening. Firstly, none of the prices on the menu include VAT and so the bill was 20% higher than we expected. This is really unusual (I’ve never been a restaurant before where prices don’t include VAT). Secondly, a cocktail was added to our bill which we didn’t have. It was just a mistake but combined with the VAT surprise, our dinner was quite a lot more than we hoped. We didn’t notice the cocktail until we got home so couldn’t alert the staff, which was our mistake for not checking the bill more carefully.
J.
The food was very nice. The sweet potato chips are amazing, best I've ever had. I did have problems with my order, I got the lamb kofta starter as a main (with pomegranate sauce and giant couscous) but I only got 3 small prices of lamb and a drizzle of the sauce. I had to ask the waiter about it, but without a problem i got a side of salad and sweet potato chips with it. It is a bit pricy but the food is nice and so is the establishment. The toilets are very big and clean.
L. B.
We were in the bar area with our dog but it felt like a restaurant, very comfortable. The staff were lovely too, very welcoming and nothing too much bother. Prices for food and drink reasonable and good selection.
K. K.
Lovely food nice place.. in response to management reply I had asked for a morgans spiced with lemonade and got what i think was a southern comfort instead. It was too string and i couldnt drink it so I asked for a little more lemonade to water it down and then I could try and drink it and was charged for the dash of lemonade and still couldn't drink it. The waitress removed the drink from the bill when she noticed I hadn't drunk it but I was still charged for lemonade. I don't like to complain hence why I didn't mention the negative side of my review. Staff were lovely I was just gasping for a drink that was palatable
D. P.
Fantastic welcoming staff. Lovely interior design and space. I personally had the signature burger. This is the best burger I have had and I would highly recommend it. I visited York this time last year and had the burger. I had been looking forward to this burger all year and it didn't disappoint. The bun was light and crispy, the burger melted in my mouth and the brisket was sensational. As if this wasn't enough the consistency of the cheese and flavour was perfect. Thankyou. I will be back.
G. B.
This exquisite dessert topped off a good meal. Not the fastest service, but pleasant staff. I do wish extra sauces were brought at the time of ordering not half way through the meal.
J. W.
Easy online booking. Great atmosphere. Good value food. Lovely helpful and friendly staff. Very busy as it was Ebor Races but the staff never appeared flustered or stressed.
B. H.
Service was excellent. Jamie and his team are 1st Class. A couple of things to improve on. Need a larger choice for anyone with food allergy. Also they had run out of the wine of choice. The replacement wasn't up to scratch
P. G.
Super menu, great chef, fabulous food at reasonable prices. Good service. Online booking was easy and helpful in planning a visit.
K. L.
Visited the Fox and Roman for our evening meal. A lovely pub with great food and extremely friendly, helpful staff. Our meal was well presented, hot and very tasty! Thoroughly recommend you visit!
s. b.
Have had many a good meal here. Unfortunately due to lockdown in 2 days time, they had run out of many items on the menu. Opted for the chicken schnitzel which was tasty, if a bit sparse. However, dessert more than made up for it! Looking forward to visiting again when it re-opens.
L. C.
We had a meal here on 8th Sept and have to say it was lovely, really lovely pub service was excellent our waitress Lucy was very friendly and couldn't fault the service at all highly recommend for a great meal
Thank you
P. M.
We were celebrating my wife's birthday. Good food and good service. There were 9 of us and everyone's food was good and served at the same time. Thank you.
C. F.
Lovely food nice atmosphere
M. O.
Staff were all very friendly and professional. Service was quick and the food was good quality products cooked to a high standard. Would highly recommend as fantastic value for money as well.
H. S.
The food was absolutely beautiful, we went to a posh tapas place the night before and the fox and Roman was 100% better quality food and had wonderful and friendly staff, would highly recommend :)
V. S.
I loved this place mostly for the exceptionally polite service from the waitering staff. Exceptional service is rare and I can highly compliment the service we received.
The food was good, but there was some room for improvement. I was also disappointed that the dessert I wanted was not available so I settled for a starter.
T. G.
Excellent friendly service however my burger was overcooked and came with a very small portion of triple cooked chips. At over £15 definitely not good value.
F. B.
Nice atmosphere and the staff were very welcoming and friendly, food was nicely cooked and came faster than we expected.
S. P.
Oops my mistake.we had calamari and chicken wings for starters and both had the signature burger with sweet potatoe fries, the food was delicious as always.think it was our 5th visit, cannot wait for the 6th.its just a shame we didn't leave room for a pudding.keep up the good work😁
D. M.
Food was great, staff very friendly and chatty. Gluten aware and presented with an online allergens menu to verify meal was gluten free.
R. S.
Excellent pub. Good food and choice. Very welcoming, nice atmosphere and excellent friendly staff and service.
J. D.
We had a lovely experience on Sunday at the Fox and Roman pub for Sunday lunch. I had the turkey which was very succulent, served with a yummy yorkshire pud and vegetables. I then had a mini dessert and hot drink, which took a while to come. Nevertheless we will be back again soon!
C. H.
Absolutely perfect, nothing at all wrong with our visit. Perfectly safe (during current pandemic), staff following all guidelines and very polite staff. Particularly Ruby who served us, I was feeding a person I was supporting while at work and my food went cold before I could eat it. Ruby offered to take it away and cook a fresh one with no extra charge, above and beyond, and very understanding of my situation. Nothing bad to say at all and will happily go again in the future.
If management see this, please thank Ruby again for her excellent customer service and for being so understanding of my situation.
S. S.
Food was freshly cooked to order and very good, also value for money. Warm and friendly atmosphere and great staff.
A. B.
Now that Sally is assistant manager, there has been a marked improvement across the board with organisation, atmosphere etc. She’s an absolute credit to the pub.
L. D.
Came here on an off chance after I screwed up a booking at a nearby hotel - we genuinely haven't stopped talking about it since and go every chance we can (even though it's an hour and a half away!) Couldn't reccomend it enough, so so yummy 😋
K. S.
Great little suntrap out the back. The food looked amazing. Will be back to try those burgers for sure.
S. B.
I took my wife for a romantic meal. I had the Signature Burger, which was amazing, and my wife had the Sirloin Steak. Very good food and a good atmosphere. Highly recommended if you are in York.
S. D.
What a find😋my husband and I stopped here for a bite to eat so glad we did the food and presentation was absolutely gorgeous the pub inside was oak beams and decorated lovely staff friendly nice atmosphere. Car park at rear of building plenty of space. Would recommend
S. S.
Excellent food, friendly service, nice atmosphere.

Had a weekend in York and stopped at the Marriott up the road from the F & R. We couldn't get in for lunch on the Sunday so booked for a roast dinner in the evening. Lovely, welcoming place with very friendly staff. Our waitress was super helpful and looked after us. When we were ordering the roast we were told that there was no Beef, Pork, Lamb or Ham left and that all they had was Turkey. Turkey was most peoples least favourite choice so reluctantly went with it. When the food arrived there was no stuffing on the plate as mentioned on the menu which really makes a roast dinner complete. Looks like they were out of most things that day. In summary it is a lovely place with great staff. I think we just picked a bad day although it wouldn't stop us going again and recommending it. I would just suggest that you book for lunchtime which is what we will do if we come to York again as I feel we didn't see F & R at its best. Hope this review is helpful.

Booked a table for 5 on a Tuesday evening. The pub was really busy. A good selection to choose from the menu, including a good vegan menu. I have to say our waiter was rather too enthusiastic, which was a bit overbearing at times and our pudding order was all mixed up. Clean and tidy pub. The quality of the food was good and generous portion sizes, apart from the vegan curry which was small in comparison to the other dishes.
N. L. (.
Went for the sunday roast. The food was not a small nor overly large portion. Mine was lovely. I had a trio of meat. My friend had a mahoosive amount of fat on her Sunday roast. She had beef only. She left what was most of the meat. That was a disappointment. Another friend had the vegetarian roast and said it was gorgeous. This was a mushroom and butternut squash pie. Lovely surroundings. Comfortable. Busy. I didn't like that the lamb on a Sunday dinner had run out by 13:30 On a Sunday. This was poor as I'd scouted the menus online and decided on this before I went!
A. H.
Food very nice, staff very friendly. Nice place. Priced around what you would expect.
M. W.
Always delivers an amazing meal ☺️😋
P.
Back at its best! Super service, good food (we had fish and chips and a burger, very healthy) and a little beer. Well done!
S.
This place is an old English cottage with old English charm.
They have a large selection of Cask-Beer and a large selection of beers on tap.
The food is cooked to order so it does not sit under a heat lamp.
The chips are some of the best I have eaten and the Hunters Chicken was fantastic.
S. M. (.
Stayed at the Marriott across the road but came here for dinner. Did not regret. Lovely food. Will return if ever in York again.
V. G.
My chicken caesar salad was very disappointing though my friend's gammon and chips looked good. Rather draughty where we were sitting as a screen has been removed and the draught from the back door meant I had to put my coat on!
L. N.
Excellent place to have a meal. Definitely recommend the lasagna. Staff were friendly and helpful. Place was clean. Children welcome.
K. S.
Lovely friendly staff, amazing food. Dog friendly, staff were so lovley to our dog brought a bowl of water & a treat for him.
A. G.
Top marks would have been more if they'd had made mini creme brulee
I. B.
Lovely meal. Just a tad slow getting drinks but in all every enjoyable. We will be coming back.
S. L.
Service was quick and friendly, food was delicious. Wish ice cream had been on the dessert menu
S. H.
Excellent gastro pub with extensive menu. Always fresh and tasty. Interesting flavour combinations.
K. W.
Wow why haven't we found this place before! Fab food and atmosphere and the customer service from Chloe was top notch. The next time we come up to York we shall most definitely return. Thank you Chloe you are one of the treasures in hospitality.
L. M.
Food was amazing, staff were lovely, only downside was slightly slow service but it was one million per cent worth the wait regardless!
G. T.
Great pub serving excellent food and a good range of well kept ales. Very friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely be back on my next trip to York
F. c.
Great food 👍 great service , thanks to Jamie , we will definitely be visiting again
C. G.
It was very busy when we arrived and we had a short wait for our table. However after we were shown to our table we were looked after and not hurried.
Our meals were served pretty quickly and were really nice. We had a dessert afterwards and followed with another drink. It was a very busy evening but we had very nice food and service.
Well worth another visit next time we are in York.
C. P.
Absolutely gorgeous food. Great atmosphere, lovely roaring fire against the snow during February. Couldn't fault anything. Over several days (rather than eating in the Holiday Inn every night) I tried the risotto with lobster and scallops, the Frito Misto, and the King Scallops with Black Pudding and Bacon.
J. X.
What a great find, we visited on Sunday as a group of 14 before the races and couldn't recommend this place enough. Both the food and the staff were excellent. A special mention to Marie our waitress who was very welcoming, helpful, and extremely patient with our group. We will definitely be back in the future.
N. W.
Good service with good food, plenty of parking too
A. W.
Had a very enjoyable late lunch/early dinner on Saturday 21/11/21 with my Girlfriend. Had come up from London for the weekend and whilst in the hotel that afternoon my Girlfriend spotted it nearby and booked us a table. Atmosphere was great, food was excellent and the staff friendly. Sadly I never caught the young mans name who served us for the majority of our meal. Loved Star Wars and Gaming I remember that much. But incredibly enjoyable and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who happens to be in the area.

This quaint little pub is beautiful. It has its secluded little table slots and more open table slots, the staff are so lovely and pleasant, the food is lovely, the burger I had was so good, with a brioche bun topped with a cracking piece of cheese and not to much salad, just right, our lovely waitress knew the house specials which was really nice to hear, (ice been to so many places where you ask what the specials are and the staff stand there looking at you like you,ve got 2 heads) that doesn't happen here, she knew her menu properly, if your ever in the area please give this place a go, if it's just a simple drink or going full on the menu, you won't be disappointed folks, 😀
s. w.
WOW WOW WOW!!! We visited here for my mums birthday celebrations and the Fox and Roman is without a doubt the best place in York - the atmosphere at Christmas is something else the decorations were just amazing!! We was served by Maria, Jamie, Joel and Lorraine. The service was just nothing but 1st class by the whole team, even the dogs were looked after with water, treats and Sunday beef!! Could not recommend this place enough, we will definitely be back again couldn’t recommend enough!!
r. c.
Good food, nice pub, friendly staff, simple as that
J. F.
Very friendly staff, good food, reasonably priced
L. W.
Service was excellent.......the food was superb and even the booking process was simple.....great wee pub that we will absolutely return to......👍🏻
R. W.
Had a meal for 4 people last night and we decided to 3 Irish coffees and a beer t finish the evening and we were in shock when the waitress asked what we wanted in it!!!!!!!!!
Obviously never made an Irish coffee before. When they finally arrived we could clearly see they were not right and we're immediately changed for a second attempt, after a chat with the manager finally got our money back. Otherwise brilliant meal
R. A. B.
Food was amazing, the service was amazing and the surroundings where so welcoming. Lucy served us and she was a credit to your team and business
B. L.
I’m sorry we didn’t get her name. She was a relatively shorter lass with dark curly hair and a big smile. Wonderful
A. H.
Food was lovely, nice atmosphere, staff were doing a great job but could tell they were stretched!
P. L.
Had early dinner today .
Food was amazing .
Had the chicken and pancetta pie .
It was really good .
Service was very good .
I would highly recommend this place .
D. B.
Just awesome, I can't say enough good things about this place, the staff are incredibly friendly, the food is consistently great, the pub itself is welcoming and cozy. There is no where in the Tadcaster Road area that ever comes close to the quality, value and service of the fox and roman. We even took into account walking distance to this place the last time we moved! And I know I've mentioned the staff already but they deserve another mention, it's them that makes this place special.
S. K.
Had a fabulous time the food was excellent and by the time we left we felt like a local as we were made so welcome.
c. c.
Visited from Edinburgh and the food and staff were so good! We thoroughly enjoyed and plan on returning ☺️
w.
Food was good. Bar service nice and relaxed. Table service non existent, although food was speedy and empty plates collected quickly.
R. D.
Staff were great and food was excellent. Would definitely recommend.
S. L.
Pub with a lovely warm atmosphere and good food. Staff friendly. I would definitely eat here again.
D. M.
Tried Guinness there and was pleasantly surprised. Always risky drinking it outside Ireland but it was nice
A. L.
Don’t think you could improve the food was superb and the service was brilliant
B. G.
Lovely Breakfast, before going to York Races, oh and pints of Guinness tremendous. I'd go here again.
S. O.
Great service, great food with friendly staff absolutely brilliant .
C. “. W.
I didn't expect advice on how I should have my rib eye steak cooked, if you order a rare steak there's a good chance I've had one before. Also the double espresso was more of a small American no depth of flavour whatsoever. Wife enjoyed her salad. Nuff said.
D. H.
Food good, had to ask for our order to be taken after being in for 30/35 minutes.
J. r.
Varied menu and reasonably priced, friendly staff.
N. L.
Bar area was good and seemed fairly quiet for a sat night, not a huge amount of atmosphere, we didn't eat, but the food area seemed busy and food looked really good. Bar service was pretty slow considering the number of staff and customers and it was very much order one drink, staff pour it, order 2nd drink, staff pour it.
S. H.
Lovely pub and great staff , the food was lovely, just found it very expensive for the burger meal I had but the pudding made up for it 😀
D. P.
Only regret was not heading to the Fox and Roman as soon as I arrived in York. Vintage, ascetically pleasing top quality dainty pub. Fabulous customer service, great location and 5* food with attention to detail. Massive shout out to Sophie who made us feel as home throughout our visits over the weekend. Would definitely recommend!
J. P.
Excellent place for food. Warm and welcoming with lovely food
K. I.
Great beer, and an excellent steak. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal! Will definitely be returning.
T. R.
What a little gem of a place! Looks like a normal run of the mill pub as you drive by... Wrong, this place offers restaurant dishes for great pub prices. The staff were awesome with my family and couldn't do enough for us, warm welcome great atmosphere and even better food. Give it a go!
N. P.
Visited yesterday with our dog.
Food was lovely and staff were wonderful. Our dog isn't usually very reactive but was yesterday and the staff were so understanding and kind. They were welcoming and even gave my dog a little doggy goodie bag.
Thank you so much for a lovely meal out.
S. F.
A nice little pub. Good food and friendly staff
J. P.
Excellent. Booked a table for lunch with friends today. Great ambiance, amazing food and excellent service. I'd highly recommend!
Thanks.
j. h.
staff were all very welcoming and friendly and the service was exceptional from all the staff that day,

This lovely pub in york is a little gem the staff are very good the food fabulous i have been twice the food same quality. It's very old worldy pub it has a fabulous Atmosphere there is not many pubs around with this quality.

Favourite eatery when visiting York. Excellent variety. Interesting flavour combinations too

This is a great pub /restaurant
The food is lush and the staff are so helpful and friendly . Really cosey feel . we stayed 3yrs . never felt rushed , the fire was on . Really nice relaxing experience
K. M.
Lovely evening meal, staff were very friendly and went over and above to keep our 9 month old happy. Great festive decorations for autumn and open fires making it nice and cosy
A. H.
Great meal and very friendly service.
A. B.
Great place to go for a meal, staff were so friendly, it was easy to forget you didn't actually know them, very attentive without being overbearing or pushy, good choice of menu too, would certainly recommend and plan on returning soon 👍
B. N. J. M.
The meal was good, the atmosphere lovely and the staff amazing :) Had to have a rush lunch and meals were delivered super quick. Thanks to Jamie, Chole and Angela (And thanks very much for the special B'day card. It was much appreciated.)
D. L.
Lovely setting, top notch service, and brilliant food. Super clean, very well managed 'at table' service. It was the little touches like the server bringing our cutlery and condiments to us in a large dish so they were untouched by her that made it feel very safe. Even in these difficult times, these guys smashed it !
M. N.
Edit Having called in for drinks with my wife my observations were it's a modern pub, not a traditional boozer. Place is busy, lots of young bar staff. Looks clean and tidy.
R. W.
Perfect meal in a really nice old pub. Good friendly staff, good and good pint of Guinness. Going back this evening for our final meal of the week in York City
J. P.
Great staff, wonderful atmosphere, fantastic food
M. B.
Lovely lunch..one of our favourite places to eat and easy car parking too...
B. T.
What a lucky find. Lovely atmosphere, served great food by Jamie who was just brilliant. As folks who had travelled over 100 miles to find such a brilliant place we were really chuffed. Thanks Jamie.
C. R.
Really enjoyed my meal here tonight. Great attentive staff.
Plus bonus found out well behaved dogs are allowed in.
S. C.
Excellent pub right next to where we stayed at the Holiday Inn. Brilliant staff and lovely food. Open fire and a very welcoming place. Definitely recommend and will be back.... probably tomorrow, again!!
R. k.
Great food, lovely atmosphere.

Lovely pub, welcoming atmosphere. Staff were friendly. Didn't have food just a few drinks. Would go back
R. B.
Great service and atmosphere but honestly the food could have been a bit better
L. R.
Lovely pub, upscale and pleasant environment
M. J.
Beautiful place, gorgeous food and all the staff were lovely. Would definitely return
S. W.
Great location, easy parking. The interior of the pub gets lots of natural light and is warm and welcoming. You're greeted by a large log fire and the occasional dog Walker enjoying a quick pint after a walk. Family run, you can expect a warm welcome by attentive staff. A generous selection of ales and wine along with a straightforward menu. The food is great, the service is excellent.

We just had a great evening meal for our group following a conference in York. We all had the three course meals priced at £26. All the dishes were well presented, tasty and plentiful. The decor was pleasant, the service was excellent with Maria our waitress who really looked after us. We recommend.
H. S.
Absolutely amazing place food was fantastic service was amazing all staff were friendly and nothing was to much trouble was a lovely evening and a great place to be we will DEFINITELY be going back 😁😁😁
L. h.
Very nice pub come restaurant, very helpful friendly staff although I didn't part take in eating there the meals looked great nice atmosphere in pleasant surroundings and lovely beer garden to the rear I could highly recommend the fox and roman to anyone
D. B.
Friendly and good quality. Much cheaper than nearby hotels
D. W.
Booked with ease by automated phone service.
Greeted at the door made very welcome as we had not been before. All Covid regulations explained and goof measures in place with cleaning, social distancing and one way system. Food excellent quality with a varied menu. Very attentive service and a throughly enjoyable visit thank you .
S. L.
Nice food although not as hot as I'd have expected and the size of the sandwich seemed disappointing.
X. X.
Visit during Covid - well managed, one way system for in and out of the pub. Service very friendly and welcoming and staff polite. Really great experience. Table service, at times a little slower however busy so expected. Tables distanced, relaxed feel. Food absolutely delicious, well presented and all round a nice experience. Well done to the team.
E. P.
We visited on a rainy day, middle of the week and relatively early in the evening. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially towards our two year old spaniel who received treats and attention. So nice to have a dog friendly restaurant where you aren't made to feel the dog is a nuisance!
The food was incredible! We had three courses including the sharer starting platter, steak, ham hock and sticky toffee pudding! We left very full.. extremely satisfied and planning a return visit! Good value for money too.
M. D.
Good Beers and good food, would recommend 👌.
C. E.
Have just had a lovely meal at this restaurant. We were seated on arrival by Roksana, who was very polite and friendly. There was a bit of a wait before our order was taken and a 25min wait till our food arrived. The restaurant was getting very busy by this time. The food when it arrived was piping hot and very nicely presented. The food was definitely worth the wait. It grieved me to leave half my fish it was beautiful. Would definitely come back if we're ever in this area. Was really satisfied with our visit .
S. R.
Great service, great food. Jamie was fan
J. D.
It was a birthday dinner for our daughter and the staff were great.
They food was excellent and it was well presented.
The bar and restaurant was very clean and COVID-19 safe.
But what made the night do special was the friendly and attentive staff.
C. E.
Very suitable for people with intolerances, very welcoming 😍

Had Sunday lunch, a busy time, but was disappointed. The food was, on this occasion, below average. In a party of 8, going just by my meal, there were too many issues. The Yorkshire Bites, we're as hard as iron to cut through, the beef was nice though. My mains had a Yorkshire pudding that had been run over, it was that flat. The replacement was not too good either. A good tip for serving vegetables, is to drain them first, before putting them on the plate. I had gravy at one end and water at the other. We had the dessert sharing platter and as nice as most of it was, putting a dollop of Eton mess in the middle is not something I would recommend. This place had been recommended to us, but then they came on a weekday. Perhaps the number of people meant lack of good food, I hope the next visit will be better.
Thank you Chris for your reply. I do not for one moment believe that my experience on that particular Sunday is the usual way in which food is served, especially after you had been highly recommended to us. We tend, where possible, to always make more than one visit, to make up our own minds. All people, chefs included, have bad days. I look forward to visiting again soon.
S. R.
Great: quick service, lovely food and nice decor. Only bit that let it down was they had no salad dressing- I was offered salad or chips as my side dish so picked salad, seems very odd to then not have a dressing available
L. H.
Lovely interior, food excellent, all the staff very well trained, chatty, nothing too much trouble, smiling, welcoming. Best place we've been to and we dine out frequently, where you are made to feel welcome and looked after.
Would highly recommend.
K. L.
Lovely pub in a great location. Service always quick and friendly by the staff, with a wide selection of drinks and food on offer. Their Sunday roast is lush (particularly the beef short rib), great portion sizes and always served nice and hot. They also have a great selection of desserts on offer if you have room. Toilets clean. Baby change available. Car park located behind the pub.
L. c.
Server Lorraine was amazing, she had a great attitude that gave us an amazing experience. Sunday roast was delicious. Would recommend!
S. B.
Although the place was packed and very busy when we were there The servers are maintained a bright Smile and helpful attitude. The fish and chips was excellent. There was a large piece of perfectly prepared fish and plenty of chips to go with them. The vegetarian roast, turkey roast, beef roast were similarly excellent .
M. T.
Great atmosphere. Fab food. Altogether a good place to eat and drink.
M. H.
Food of good quality well presented and good service. Would go back.
C. L.
A very good place for food and service. You need to book as it was busy when we went.
N. S.
Great place and staff, only missing some local/ real ale.
n. c.
Excellent lunch, highly recommended
K. H.
Fab pub restaurant from the vintage inns chain conveniently located opposite the Holiday Inn York. At 5 we were seated quickly even though it was already getting busy, orders taken quickly and food served within 20 mins. We all enjoyed our food and portions were great- shame we didn’t have room for dessert x. Will definitely come again, we stay at the hotel opposite annually
W. J.
The food was good, but what made it five stars was definitely the staff. We had a really good evening with a lot of humour and interaction from the staff.
A. B.
Food was lovely and staff friendly
R. S.
Very enjoyable meal, served in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The food and wine were excellent, would highly recommend 👌
M. S.
Unfortunately they'd run out of my first choice on their 2 course menu but they did allow me to substitute from the full menu and I had a very good chicken pie with well presented...firm but cooked...veg. Starters were also nicely presented and very tasty. Good choice of beers. Lovely helpful staff. Thank you
G. D.
Beautiful pub in a lovely setting. The open fireplace is amazing. The food however is good but could be improved.
N.
They managed to fit us in on a Friday evening without booking. Friendly staff and great service. Our toddler is a fussy eater and typically just eats off our plate and, whilst they have a fantastic children's menu they were more that happy to equip our daughter to help herself to ours.
Good food too and it came promptly too despite being busy.
T.
A fabulous place to eat. The staff were all so happy to help and a slight problem with my
order was dealt with most satisfactorily. Lovely ambiance with friendly staff and great food.Next time I visit York I will definitely be back to visit. Thank you all.
A. H.
Was nice with good bar staff who allowed me to charge my phone with a charger they provided (some pubs I have found don't allow this which is infuriating if you don't have a charger and low battery) I didn't have food and only a couple of pints whilst not the cheapest establishment it was a great pint and I would rather have quality over cheap rubbish. I will go back at some point and try the food as the menu looked good with a nice setting.
A. F.
Went here whist spending christmas week in York. had a lovely dinner off the festive .menu. Served by great staff. The best thing about this place is they welcome dogs.lots of pubs do. But not many are as nice as this. Thank you so much. Maybe make the sign welcoming them bigger? .
M. G.
Great selection of drinks and great service
A. L.
Nice looking pub in a good location.
It was easy to book a table over the phone but we were not met by any staff on arrival and I had to find someone to ask where we were meant to be sitting.
I tried to order a lager shandy for my 16 year old son and was told that it was company policy not to allow this, even though the law allows a 16 year old to drink alcohol with a meal if accompanied by an adult.
We were told that despite it being 1930 on a Friday night (and a known busy period for any gastro pub) that a good portion of the menu was unavailable: pate, flat bread, any starter breads, most of the fish dishes, 1/3 of the steak options and no pizza.
That aside, the atmosphere was lovely and warm and the food we had, prime beef burgers, was excellent 😁. The two members of staff we spoke to at the table were very welcoming and friendly.
J. G.
Always a great atmosphere in here. Only down side was the beef was really fatty on the Sunday dinner and thought yellow peppers with a roast a bit odd. Should of ordered the turkey as that looks lovely.
S. J.
Me and my partner have been many times the food as always been excellent but for some reason it wasn't as good on this occasion but we will certainly go back
S. A.
Nice place to have a drink and/or eat. The pub layout is interesting with tables to suit every occasion. The staff are very friendly, courteous and helpful. My only gripe is that some of the meals are a little overpriced for what you get.
S. C.
Stopped by here on a short visit to York whilst staying at the holiday inn. Great pub, with cosy interior and friendly staff. Food was great and exceeded our expectations. Drinks selection was good with both local and a range of others on offer. The manager was very helpful and welcoming. Would recommend!
H. L.
Lovely, cosy atmosphere and comfortable. Staff were friendly and polite. We didn't have food but the menu looked good and fairly priced and the food coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled amazing.
D. C.
Lovely food, great selection of drinks and the staff were absolutely fantastic, can't recommend enough
p.
I've been here many times and have had many good experiences. However, more recently the service has become very slack and the food average. The last time we went, I was served by a young girl who was as incompetent as she was disinterested. I had to ask her to take a drinks order after 15 min, and then had to go to the bar to get them after another 15 min. She also got the order wrong.
Anyway, it's worth a gamble and hopefully because of the lovely building but I won't be back soon
B. T.
Yep, nice, it's a chain pub, but better than the average and a good escape from the holiday Inn!
L.
The food is amazing. Real quality food and cooked with passion. Had fish and chips usually overcooked from most places but this was perfect. Batter was crispy and tasty too.
t.
We came in on Saturday night without a reservation, but they found us a table, which was awesome. I asked our server for his recommendations (chicken&mushroom pie, Waddle Goose three berry cyder, and banoffee pie), which were all really good. He was super cheery and friendly. Great experience!
C. O.
My son said it was the best pizza he ever had. Food was brilliant, served Covid safely and piping hot. Staff very attentive and chatty which was nice as my kids love to talk. Brilliant place
A. C.
5 of us ate from a pre booked Xmas menu this lunch time, our food was delicious! The only thing I would say is that it could have been a bit hotter.
Service was very good. Great value for money.😁
M. O.
Good selection of draught beers,very pleasant staff,with a sense of humour,whilst busy,tasty meals.Recommended( I almost never recommend).
I have no affiliation, nor vested interest in this pub, whatsoever.
It was just a pleasant, stress-free evening.
m. c.
Friendly staff and good beer choice
D. A.
Delicious food. Really nice place to eat. Waitress Ruby excellent. Place not very warm inside though. Also it is advisable to ring prior to visiting if you have any specific dietry needs as these are not always adhered to if booking online. Fortunately Ruby saved the day with my dietary needs and was such a genuinely nice young Lady. Will definitely be visiting this place again :)
J. M.
We have never had a bad experience at a Vintage Inn anywhere in England.
The Fox and Roman is a really good example of the chain.
We needed Sunday lunch with not much time to plan. The staff fittedus in and served quickly, despite being busy.
The ambiance is great, staff friendly, courteous, efficient and helpful.
Food is delicious. Good value.
Highly recommended by us.
Thanks
C. D.
They managed to fit us in despite a packed Sunday evening service. The food was of a high pub food level, they had run out of the roast dinners, but at least this shows a fresh good cut of meat as opposed to frozen.
The service was with a smile, and a few jokes thrown in made us feel very welcome.
A busy country style pub with good food and a nice atmosphere would recommend and hope to come back some time.
D. M.
Good lunch. Tasty fish cake. Perhaps £1 per item overpriced. Good staff.
S. H.
Amazing venue, great time, really enjoyed my visit
L. W.
Straight across road from holiday inn
Good cleaning service. One door in one door out.
This is a vintage inn which we visited down in Horning a few days before. I loved the due of lamb down in Horning so decided to get this dish again. But dish was not up to scratch, the lamb rump was chewy and not given a steak knife so I had trouble cutting it. Shepherds pie had no cheese on top so didn't taste or look as nice. My husband had salt and pepper squid but said it had no taste. Think I had more pepper in my cauliflower and potato soup
S. J.
Popped in mid week without a reservation. It was quite quiet, we were served quite quickly but not too quickly. Food was good and service attentive without being overly so.
Enjoyed the meal and will be back.
A. S.
We went there with my family and everybody loved the place. Food was very tasty, service was great and on time. It was a very positive experience, I recommend to eat there with friends or family.
(If you liked my review please give me a like, thank you.)
R. M.
We were in york for 2 nights, went here for the 1st night for food, enjoyed it so much we came back on our 2nd night. Food was lovely and well priced and the staff were really pleasant and helpful.
Would recommend giving this lovely place a go
T. J.
Quality Quality food!! and great staff!!
J. G.
Lovely meal with friendly staff. Good value.
P. S.
Lovely country pub food Lovely as well
M. L.
Good food, lovely staff.

Very good food & very pleasant staff
T. K.
On holiday in York and wanted to book a table for two at short notice and we were fitted in on a very busy Friday night and from the moment we walked in staff were helpful, cheerful and friendly, (especially our waitress Emily) Food was very tasty and well cooked. my husband and I had the Sirloin steak and I had the apple and rhubarb crumble and custard which was delicious and my husband had the carrot cake cheesecake which was also very good. We will visit again if in York.
L. R.
Love coming here, favourite place in York.
The food is amazing and the staff are very friendly, can’t compare it with anywhere else!
C. B.
Nice area near the fire, very attentive lady in charge, but wine is not cheap!
M. B.
The food here is excellent. We are staying in York for the next few days and have decided that we will eat at the Fox and Roman each night. The staff Chloe & Ruby are really helpful and you are made very welcome while there.
C. C.
Other than there being no Romans or foxes ( even on the menu) everything was great. Service was good and very helpful/ friendly. The food was excellent and it's a very nice place to sit and eat. Would definitely recommend a visit.
A. W. M.
Nice meal, Timmy T kept well. As ever, friendly staff.
G. P.
Wow! Wonderful atmosphere. Food absolutely exquisite. 4 clean plates. The pub was full but food was served relatively quickly. All served with a big smile. 5 stars for sure
I. M.
Visited twice, because the food was so good, definitely recommend, staff very friendly, car parking at rear
a. s.
I used the pub as a local many years ago when I worked at another pub close by. Theres still a fantastic warm feeling to be had here and it still has that warm cosy feel. The menu is as expected from a vintage inn and served to a high standard. The staff were friendly but not over powering and as helpful as required. Still a fantastic local pub.
S. H.
Food was lovely, really enjoyed it
D. T.
Nice pub only popt ther cos holiday Inn wonted £925 for a glass of vino .it was 8 something for two but looks lovely and the staff we're very polite
S. b.
Popped in here with my wife last night. Delicious ice cold pint of Stella. Really needed it on my holiday! Wife also thoroughly enjoyed her double gin on the rocks. Highly recommend this pup when you’re in need of a satisfying beverage.
J. B.
Looks lovely and cosy inside but unfortunately the food was a let down. When you book a table for six in the evening, you don't expect the specials to be sold out so soon. However, if the meals provided had been sent out with all the meat listed on it (beef three ways) we would have overlooked the former.
D. M.
Really nice, traditional English pub. Nice seating arrangements and friendly atmosphere. Staff could not have been nicer. Traditional Sunday roast was okay, but not brilliant which was unfortunate because everything else was good.
B. T.
Wouldn't serve us food outside, we have eaten outside on a Sunday several times before, sure that's no drama but not likely to return, shame as it's local...
j. r.
Really lovely Sunday lunch. Sirloin of beef was tender and Veg was so tasty ... not the usual tasteless mange tout and boiled carrots but buttery cabbage and roasted carrots with thyme plus the lovely surprise of caramalised parsnips . The roast potatoes were equally delicious... Great attentive human and dog friendly service.. This was our first visit as previously it was not doggy friendly but we will definitely be back. Looking forward to Weds pie nights!! Thank you; we enjoyed it very much. Ohh and the gravy was really meaty and yummy!!
J. A.
limited menu
The chips were very very dry
The burger seemed a little over cooked
However friendly staff and quick service
J. C.
Nice friendly staff good service and good food
L. N.
Excellent service and fantastic roast dinner.
T. M.
Really great cosy atmosphere. Really good quality food with lots of choice. She may have been having a bad day but the waitress didn't seem very happy.
S. H.
Very pleasant lunch, first time out for ages. Food was good, and staff were very attentive and friendly.
G. T.
High quality food and drinks plus friendly staff
D. H.
Nice dog friendly pub. Good selection of drinks and food. Friendly staff.
M. G.
Very cosy pub with open fire and great service from the staff. We all had the Sunday Roast, which was on the whole very tasty. Unfortunately the roast potatoes were quite burned, but everything else fine.
M. F.
Cool places. Great food and beer.
M. D.
We ate here on Friday night and the food and service were fantastic. Can't recommend this place highly enough!
M. W.
Great little place. Our dog was welcomed and our meal was good
R. A.
Went to a wake nice lager and good food with comfortable surroundings
V. S.
What a lovely place! Great service, thank you Lucy! Great food with a lovely interior and atmosphere
A. D.
Came here on a busy Saturday night during the viking festival. The waitress that served us was friendly, attentive and informative. The guy that greeted us was also incredibly welcoming. The food was delicious and the place itself was quirky and cosy. Really lovely pub. Missed out on one star as the waiter that brought the food to our table just kind of rushed over and dumped it in front of us and when I ordered a second glass of wine, it never arrived but it did appear on the bill. Our original waitress did apologise profusely and amend this, however, so no real harm done.
B. W.
Lovely food and staff really friendly...a great atmosphere
S. O.
Appeared to be understaffed. Place wasn't very busy but there were many tables filled with plates and glasses from previous party's. Felt like an age before the food arrived. That said it was a nice place. Food was good. Staff were friendly.
A. B.
Nice atmosphere and clean and attractive decor . Staff friendly and helpful. Food is ok and reasonably priced. Spacious table settings and we'll equipped for covid situation.
J. H.
We had the most amazing service from Alison and Charlie/Charlotte after we had been to York Races on Saturday 10th October. This cheered us up after losing money at the races and made the excellent meal a really enjoyable experience. After we had left the restaurant Alison ran 150 yards to catch up with us and return a mobile one of my colleagues had left behind. Highly recommended.
B. P.
Wonderful place to eat. Had a number of Friday visits while on holiday from Canada. Very friendly staff, great food and the atmosphere is nice as well. Usually visited with aunt and cousins. I would definitely visit again in the future.
D. N.
Excellent service and good sized portions. Really friendly and helpful staff. Nice area out back for walking off your meal, or a cigarette, should you be a smoker
C. D.
First time I went in I was told we could have a table in 5 mins, stood watching them clean tables but 15 mins later still waitresses were shoving past us (stood behind the wait here sign) so gave up. A year later on a much quieter day (only one other family in) we managed to get fairly good service but the food was distinctly average and the price too high I thought, 2 adult and 1 child Sunday dinners with puds plus 2 small lemonades £45, can get better for less elsewhere.
J. a. S.
Quite a find, what one might call an upper class pub food, very good quality and excellent service.
B. K.
Great food at reasonable prices and very generous portions, we were particularly impressed by the pies with puffy pastry tops. Beer selection and general staff banter was on point 👌👌👌
L. J.
Lovely old English pub. Very family. Good food and good beer.
R. H.
Great service.
Lovely vegetarian burger washed down with a bottle of white!
Recommended.
C. L.
Great food, friendly staff, and good value.
A. B.
Lovely atmosphere. We just went for a drink..stayed 5 hours! Couldn't resist trying some food while they we were there. Service prompt and food to a high standard.
L. D. C.
Nice contemporary ph. Spacious, clean and comfortable surroundings. Food was nice and hot, prices were ok. Staff were accommodating and polite. The Fox and Roman, is nearby the York racing track, so surroundings are interesting.
M. S.
Quaint and homely. Wide range of patrons catered for comfortably, from young babies to foreign businessmen to retired ladies having a relaxed lunch and a glass of wine.
Will definitely visit again on my next trip to York.
J. W.
The Fox and Roman is an above average gastro-pub which is focused much more on the eating than the drinking. The menu is varied and the prices are about average for this kind of eatery. The atmosphere is loverly, it's a lovely building and has good parking behind the pub (entered by turning down the left hand side of the building, and later exiting from the right).
On Sundays they do a creditable british roast dinner, whilst the rest of the week they cover all the usual bases with (usually) a burger option, steak, pies, and chicken choices. All are cooked well and service is always good. If they have a Crumble listed on the desert menu I'd strongly suggest you try it - they are very good indeed.
The beer and spirit choices are a little uninspiring but as I said, their focus is clearly on the food. I'd avoid it on Race Days - the post horse race crowd can be kinda rowdy and the place gets very full. Otherwise, very nice venue.
K. H.
Be prepared to wait a long time between courses, the same staff are trying to run the bar as well as serve and take orders in the restaurant.
We were a party of 5 the food was nice but there needs to be a huge improvement in the service in the restaurant, which is such a shame as the pub has a wonderful ambience, maybe just teething problems or short staffed
J. H.
Would have taken a photo of the food but it was so nom nom nom we just tucked in! Staff friendly and helpful and we just managed to get a table at 5pm - very popular even early doors. Food was excellent and was not a long wait.
R. W.
Always a pleasure to eat/drink here.
Very pleasant staff, good food, and a wide variety of inebriation fluids (and other drinkable liquids)..
S. B.
Visited the Fox and Roman this evening (9th May 2019)for a meal with family what a delight it was. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Thank you for a lovely evening. Graham, Sarah, Cliff and Sue
E. L.
Nice lunch menu.
D. M.
TRIPPLE COOKED CHIPS!
Lovely place, nice starters, my wife and I had to have the TRIPPLE COOKED CHIPS alas we got bog standard frozen chips. Manager said they were cooked twice at the factory and once at the pub.... £15 discount on the bill before paying the bill said it all..........
D. L.
Wow what a lovely experience
Was in york for a short visit so popped in, pub was very busy but service and slecetion of foods and drinks was exemplary. Keep up the good work. The Laithwaites (not the wine owners)
E. T.
Nice atmosphere and staff. Food was quickly served and was nice. I was there at Christmas eve so it was lively, lovely decorated and staff was prompt besides the crowded place.
a. g.
Very nice Sunday lunch, arriving at our table piping hot. Generous portions. Friendly staff . Will go again when next in York.

Great food at very reasonable prices. A busy bar/restaurant with friendly staff. Booking advised as this place is extremely popular and is nearly always busy.
M. B.
1st Class, Excellent Service.
k. l.
Best pork belly I have ever eaten. Would have been 5 stars but the soup had hard vegetables could not eat it and I was still charged.
M. H.
Excellent food and service. About £30 per head but well worth it!
W. W.
I rated 3 stars in Google Home asking about my preferences and that became my Maps review, that is not clear! I actually rate this place a 5 for the comfort, food and selection of drinks. Will have to lodge a bug with Google about that! Thanks for the reply it or I would have had no idea!
M.
Friendly, warm atmosphere. Great staff amazing food.
Would come again.
P. S.
Beautiful food at a reasonable price. I can't recommend this place enough. Very busy most of the time and almost impossible to get in on a race day so worth checking before hand.

Great food & great service from bar & waiters. Another good Vintage Inns establishment.

We returned on the 28th December to be told there was no food delivery! What a shame, had to go to another in Bishopthorpe. Maybe next time.

Good food, bit pricey but the weekender menu made up for it.
Took a while to get thr food but it was a Saturday night so it was understandable!
D. H.
Lovely food and establishment
c. t.
Fantastic food and service staff can't do enough for you pleasant atmosphere
D. L.
The pub is reasonable, clean, with good service. However quite expensive given the quality of food, which was fine, but not great.
S. S.
Nice place, good selection of drinks behind the bar. Clientele seemed nice and good bar staff. We also all enjoyed our food, which is also a bonus.
J. M.

Really cosy with a good atmosphere, staff very helpful, food was great and the fixed menu was great value for money, there is a car park to the rear which isn't at first obvious

Lovely meal. Good service and staff. Still covid aware

Service could have been better. Ordered a fish pie with a mash potato topping that came with either more mash or chips? Considering the pie was more mash and less fish the addition of more potato didn't help.

Worth walking too if staying in local hotels, not too far to walk into York either.

It was our first time here as we come up for a few days away, the staff were very nice and took us to our table, a bit of a wait before she took our order but to be honest it was getting busy, there was a bit of a wait for our food but it was worth it, the steak was lovely and the chips fantastic, the wife had the fish and chips which were lovely she was a bit sad when she could not eat it all, I would recommend this place to anyone that loves great food thanks again.

First time in there tonight, good beer, excellent food and really great staff, if this place was close to home it would be our local for sure, even the land lady took extra care with sorting a really nice table and coming back later to make sure all was good but she needn't have worried as her staff are great, Thank You,
