Reviews of The Lord Collingwood

Extremely friendly, traditional old village pub on the green in Upper Poppleton. Dog friendly. 17th century Grade 2 listed building. Fires, beams and a fantastic carved oak bar from the 19th century. Smiley eyed Bev (& Mr Bev, sorry, didn't get your name!) were wonderfully welcoming and warm, convivial hosts. Definitely a case of right folk in the right occupation. Car park. Beer garden to the rear with some shaded seating and an abundance of other assorted seating to the front and side. Handpulled cask beers were Timothy Taylor's Boltmaker, Black Sheep and Hobgoblin Gold. Loved the beer, totally loved the old carved bar, good food, but it's best assets are the landlord and landlady. See you again! Highly recommended.

There was a charity fund raising afternoon around the village green at Poppleton culminating in 2 bands appearing at the Lord Collingwood. This traditional village pub with pub garden hosted the event well, the beer and wine were well served and reasonably priced. Started at 3:00 with bands finishing around 8:00 when we had planned to go home but stayed until 11:30. Landlord and Landlady friendly, good atmosphere.

Lovely welcoming pub. The landlady was very helpful and understanding of my health problems and food intolerances. She was happy to serve a smaller portion and adapt the menu for me. Both mine and my husbands meals were absolutely delicious.

Saturday lunchtime ..... really needed lunch for 87 year old mum. But I hadn't realised they didn't normally do food then. Brilliant landlady did some beautiful sandwiches specially for us and gave mum a piece of cheesecake because it was mums birthday...
Really saved our (my) day.
Mum first came to the Lord Collingwood in her late teens and it was a lovely trip down memory lane for her.
A GREAT PUB WITH A NICE COMMUNITY FEEL ABOUT IT.
Thanks again.

Friendly pub on Nether Poppleton Green. Food served from 5pm. Nice atmosphere and lovely beer garden. Best of all it is dog friendly. Recommended

We came to this wonderful pub on the 28th of May 2022 and had a wonderful couple of beers. This is a wonderful pub and the staff are so very very friendly indeed. There is a wonderful beer garden with lots of seating, the beers are extremely well kept and are very enjoyable indeed. My only big criticism here though is that the drinks are extremely expensive. This does sadden me considerably because when you are a real ale drinker like I am you don’t expect to pay extortionate prices for such beers as hobgoblin. We paid just under £18 for four beers. You would think that because there is another pub nearby they would reduce the prices to get more customers and therefore have some competition. Having said that I will definitely go here again but I will be extremely careful of what I order because of the extreme high prices.

Good pub with a good atmosphere but the food was terrible. Cold chips, no rice despite half the menu being rice based & just really bad. Lovely pub to go drink beer in but will not risk the food again.
A. C.
Lovely traditional English pub with a recent history that's been difficult to keep up with. There's been the odd occasion where I've turned up and it's been closed but I believe current management are doing a better job.
Not eaten here recently so it would be wrong of me to comment but the beers good especially if you're into your real ales. Not cheap but then you're in Poppleton where every business charges a premium as the local residents can usually afford it so don't complain. First visited 20 years ago and still pop in on the odd occasion.

Nice place, nice people, amazing pub quiz on a Wednesday night 9pm

Lovely, cosy place to go, felt very welcome and at home, customers are wonderful and kind to talk to and couldn’t ask for a better landlady😊 wide range of soft drinks and fresh fruit of customers choice to go with! Lovely pub and would definitely recommend to everyone, dog friendly aswell! Bev has really made this a wonderful pub.

Good little pub in a nice location
Only thing for the mark down on stars is the food could maybe do with being home cooked style
B. C.
Just took my father there for a drink. Very good, but quiet. No food this lunchtime, but that did not affect us. Lovely little 'pub dog' very friendly.
P. S.
Went to the Lord Collingwood for a family meal last night and I have to say that the food was superb. It was pub grub, but of the highest order. Very, very good indeed.
I would definitely give it 5 big stars, and I hope it all goes well for the new Landlord.

Feels like a " boozer" again! Popped in tonight on the off chance it was open to find new land lord and land lady. They've given the place a freshen up but it's still cozy, and beer was spot on. A mixture of enthusiasm and experience is just what was needed and I really think these two might just pull it off! Good luck, let's get this fab village pub back on the map.

This pub has just reopened and awaiting for a new couple to take over on the 2nd of September. Really nice country village pub. My friend is running it at the moment by himself. Will be doing food again soon.

This is a lovely pub. Sadly they have made it impossible for people with mobility issues to access as there are steps front and back and no disable toilets. The toilets are actually a disgrace and have not been refurbished for 30 years. Otherwise Guy is doing a brilliant job
N. E.
Quite busy when I was there (Tuesday). A bit short on beer choice but plenty of lager.
L. P.
Lovely friendly pub good food at reasonable price.

J. H.
Pleasant atmosphere and sensible prices. Food looked good although we didn't try any, but will in the very near future
S. R.
Changing my review due to it changing hands and not really being familiar with it anymore, only been once since and it was fine, just over £7 for a couple of pints. Bar dog a big plus
