Reviews of The Postern Gate, York - JD Wetherspoon.
C. H.
You don’t really expect a lot from a Wetherspoon pub but to wait over 30 minuets for a basic breakfast is a little long! In fairness the drinks came pretty sharp when ordering on the app. The place it’s self is large, airy and by the canal which makes it a nice and convenient spot.
I would go back and do recommend it but make sure you have plenty of time.

Whilst we were staying at the Travelodge Central we used the Wetherspoon for breakfast as the hotel restaurant was closed for refit. I ordered the large breakfast which was disappointing. Two tiny pieces of bacon, a Small spoon of beans, toast which I thought was dry bread, must have just been flashed under the toaster. My mushroom was absent from the plate so spoke to a nice young lady who went a brought me the missing mushroom, yes a single mushroom 😂
At T time it was chucking it down with rain so stayed close to the hotel again.
It was so busy had to wait for a table.
It was worth the wait, my Tika masala was nice and the wife enjoyed her Hunters chicken.
Would have been 3 star without the nice T.
P. P.
Well located near the castle park and town center. Friendly and efficient staff during our visit! The drinks are good value and can see many people ordering their meals too!
G. P.
Came to York for few days and were early to check in at staycity so dropped luggage off and came here and first drink took a while but after that other lad served us lot quicker and food was nice too even got 1 garden pea with my ultimate 🍔 and the new boneless chicken basket was very nice,
A. S.
Good vibes, good prices and great service! The beer is really cheap, different of all other pubs that we went before. Also a cool atmosfere. I'll come back, for sure!
G. H.
Visited here quite a few times on a recent break in the area. Never had bad service. Staff always friendly and quick to clean tables/ remove glasses etc. Sometimes a little wait for drinks but staff were obviously working hard and better service than most places whilst it was extra busy during the heatwave. Good gluten free options available and easy to order on the app.
R. m.
value for money. Nice view of the river and plenty tables outside and in the courtyard to sit for alfresco dining. toilets are clean and tidy. bar serving is pretty slow but order on the app. saves alot of time food is hit and miss most things were out of stock 27th July. but came back 28th july and menu looks to be ok now.
S. H.
As any other wetherspoons, fast service, great food, good price, but the coffe machine was broken for almost a week, which I think is not acceptable for a high demand of customers like this pub.
And still selling the breakfast with coffe/tea included And not offering a replacement.
D. H.
We came here a couple of times whilst staying in York, once for dinner and the other for breakfast. Both occasions we were more than happy with the food, drink and service. Breakfast does tend to be popular so expect a bit of a wait, but the evening food came quite quickly and as you would expect from Wetherspoons is good value. The location is lovely, and after dinner we sat by the river for a couple more drinks in the summer evening.
A. B.
Can't beat Wetherspoons for value for money. This one has a nice outside seating area next to the river which added to the event.
Ordered from the app and service was as expected.
Recommended 👌

Realy enjoyed our meal, staff were lovely, if I was to go to York again I'd definitely visit weatherspoons

I'm not sure whether Wetherspoons is snake or the apple from the garden of Eden.
But out of all the spoons I have had the misfortune of stepping foot in, this one is by far the best.
Amazing prices, brilliant service and the food was above par (for a spoons).
Again tho, I brought my talking monkey and she decided to use nearly 6 out the 8 packets of mayo on about 20 chips, and only 2 onna chicken burger (which don't worry this time she managed to eat the thing with the bread on, I'm very proud of her!) But eitherway her colesterol must be through the roof! God help her.

My husband and I had a meal last night. I have coeliac disease so was apprehensive about dietary choices available and since a major operation can only manage a small meal. I was served by Heather. I cannot speak highly enough of her personable, friendly helpful manner. She helped guide me towards their kiosk which showed what meals were suitable and helped on occasion. Her suggestion of a take away box was ideal so I could eat just what I could manage and take home the rest. I requested extra butter etc and nothing was too much. After a while before end of her shift she came over to check all was well. Well done and thank you Heather. We need more staff like you. Kind Regards Jan

Typical 'spoons - everyone should know what to expect. In the main when they do conversions they try to emphasise the building history and previous use. This is the first 'spoons I've been in that have toilets on the ground floor.
Used here for breakfast rather than the high cost at our Hotel - We eat little in the morning so this was perfect. Breakfast 7m - 11am.
Now I like to see owners/managers respond to reviews, but none here to the highest reviews or the lowest. Its a worry for me that they may not take notice of customers concerns. Could be company policy, could be they couldn't care less.
Give it a go - Food hygiene rating 5

A modern Spoons. Attached to a Travelodge. Outside seating. Sreas inside to reflect your mood, ie. secluded, bright or normal. Jolly crew work there. Used it for breakfast & drinks on a weeks break in York.
D. S.
If the place is full wait at the front, check in with the NHS app or write down your details. You will be shown a table. If it's not busy I think you can check in and find your own table. Service was as quick as could be expected given that it was full. Service was friendly. A pint was 2.15 I think. I asked for a sample of another beer and that was no problem.
Typical Spoons really. Free WiFi. 5 guest cask beers.
A. B.
Great place. Wetherspoons cheap drinks as always. Service was a bit slow due to lack of staff, but more than compensated by the great food and cheap drinks. Good atmosphere.
B.
This visit was made on the 11th August 2020 during the covid19 pandemic when restrictions were eased.
Expecting a long wait we were surprised to be shown a table straightway. The procedure was explained. 1. Sit down 2. Scan a, QR code and enter contact details for contact tracing. 3. Order and pay from the table using the app or nip to the bar for those without the tech. So far so good,, very relaxed and felt safe and normal.
Food arrived in reasonably quick time and I can honestly say it was piping hot, and soooo delicious. Every member of staff were working their socks off for our safety and dining experience.
Each table had a screen to shield you from others, but this didn't detract from the experience.
I spoke to the manager and thanked her, and she said that everyone was happy to be back. Please don't be afraid to go, they need and deserve your custom, it's as safe as safe can be thanks to the hard work and dedication of staff.
Q.
I visited on 23/11/19 and it was very busy,a bit chaotic to get a table but didn't wait very long for the food to arrive. The next day had breakfast which is pictured, the price was about £6.50 approx and service was very quick. The prices of alcohol are very good as considering you are in York ,would recommend it.
D. S.
It would have only been 2 stars due to the lack of food, but Sean the waiter was fantastic and made the experience excellent. Probably the best waiter that Wetherspoons employs. Thank you Sean
A. G.
Lovely food although they seemed a bit shorted staff ad we had to wait ages for our drinking after ordering via the app.
K. H.
Purpose built below Travelodge. Not enough staff so long wait on both ordering via app and going to bar. Lacked the normal 'local' connection things to name or area Not like other sites. Left a bit disappointed.
T. B.
We sat outside the weather was perfect. Nice pub but lots of drunk youngsters. Excellent price for a pint of beer.
f. a. t.
Guinness was cheap too many Amateur Bar staff not their fault ,no training obviously not provided ,In the sixties barmaids could do mental arithmetic for very large rounds and still be spot on and even the customers could do mental arithmetic now if they don't press a button they are lost.
O. R.
Good food but very busy..staff not interested in anything but personal chatting on headsets..also long wait for food service
A. M.
Sean at the postern gate in York is always wonderful! He has great customer service skills, always smiling and makes our whole table laugh! Give this man a pay rise! :)
e. H.
Fantastic service. Staff worked so hard in today's heatwave. Served with a smile on their face. No complaints. 5 star. Thank you 😊
S. C.
It's a great wetherspoons pub, good food and drinks lovely staff it's always been clean and tidy even though it's always busy.
j. g. j.
We had our breakfast and a few beers at night whilst we were staying next door at Travelodge. The food was great and not too expensive. Great night with lovely atmosphere as it was student night. We will be visiting again soon once all the Xmas shopping madness has passed, York is getting uncomfortably busy at this time of year just too many visitors, sadly a victim of its own success.
M. A.
The food here was great, very busy but was served quickly. Staff were very helpful.
K. J.
Service was quick and the food was at a good standard. Wetherspoons is always a safe place to go for good food and service wherever it is
L. H.
You know what to expect from a Wetherspoons, this one is better than most with a good sized bar and plenty of seating, a good outdoor area too. Not sure what the service is like at busy times as we only came for breakfast a couple of times, we had no complaints at all.
E. C.
The food was very tasty, the service was very good and efficient,, l enjoyed my dining experience there, l highly recommend it..
t.
Very nice venue little busy as York's ebor race meeting was in progress but staff coped well enjoyed our visit would recommend 👍😃😃
J. B.
Another typical wetherspoons pub, you know that you can get a nice meal and cheap drinks with plenty of choices, I always look for a wetherspoons pub wherever I go.
C. H.
Nice food, and nice drinks, but food and drinks weren't that good, the Pepsi didn't have a full taste, it tasted quite watered down and the bread for the burger was quite dry. Both the food and drinks were still nice but can't give 5 stars as it wasn't quite as good as I was expecting.
E. B.
Really great friendly staff, good reasonably priced food, for a quick snack before adventures around the city or relaxing for dinner after a busy day. Lovely outside Riverside seating area. Great food, great service 👍
B. H.
Decent portion sizes and food for the price, and friendly staff. However the general feel was it needed a good dust and clean.
M. U.
Can't go wrong with starting you day with a full English breakfast at spoons sets you up for the day especially when it's cold!
D. N.
Quite nice experience. Fairly large room and pretty nice seating outside, which shuts at 11. Cleaner than your average spoons so already a bonus. Recommend for a cheap drink and decent time :)
A. D.
Stopped off for lunch and wine during our city wall walk. Premises clean with quick service through the app. Staff were very pleasant despite being busy during our visit delivering food, drinks and clearing tables.
l. n.
Food and value for money as good as ever but this time found overall it was a bit grubby. Could do with a good clean. Staff run off their feet. Could do with designated cleaning staff.
S. M.
As ever with a Wetherspoon, good cheap beer and excellent refillable coffee. It's a modern building so less interesting than some of their pubs, and a bit noisy when busy but no complaints!
P.
a very lively pub, perfect for people watching. the food and drinks cheap as chips. you cannot beat this value for money, the new chicken in a basket was delish , gin choices are amazing
G. W.
Not the usual impressive quirky building the Wetherspoons usually take over, we went on a Saturday evening before a gig at the Barbican and the staff behind the bar were Kevin, Perry, Keith Fromtheoffice, Lauren Amibothered and Vicki Pollard, in contrast the manager seemed capable tho.
J. N.
We had breakfast and went back on the eve for dinner. Ordered on App. Super service. Food hot. Excellent choice for usual weatherspoons fair
M. C.
Friendly staff, good food, fast service with a good choice still available on the menu.
This weatherspoons definitely wins my vote over The Punch Bowl, another weatherspoons about 15 minutes walk away.
P. M.
Nicely decorated large venue.
Easy to use the app to order our food and drink to the table.
Noticed only after we'd eaten that didn't have all the onion rings that were part of mean, bit a bit late then 🤷🏻♂️
Apart from that, all good and friendly staff
G. M.
Went to the Postern Gate on a busy St Patrick's Day lunchtime. The pub was packed with customers, although I managed to get a table. As it was busy I tried the Wetherspoons mobile app to avoid having to queue at the bar. I was impressed with the efficiency. Our drinks were brought to the table within three minutes of ordering, and the food arrived within eleven minutes.
Typical chain pub, fayre, this isn't a gastropub. However our food (fish and chips, chicken burger and bacon / avacado bagel were tasty hot and great value. Will definitely visit again.
D. B.
A nice spoons. Good food. Cooked well. Reasonable price. Not too busy. Fairly quick service.
J. F. P.
Like all spoons always busy only had drinks but price was very good 1 pint coors and double gin and tonic £7.74 cannot go wrong
A. P.
I'll be honest, I'd not say it was our most popular Wetherspoons, but I think most people know what to expect and it didn't disappoint in terms of our drinks, we didn't have any food this time.
A. J.
Been here a few times, always a good service. Quick service, particularly when ordering through the app
M. M.
It's a spoons you know what you get and for the price, place was clean and staff friendly! Only down side was went between the change over of breakfast and lunch but no one seemed to know when it would be ready only had to wait 15 mins but a group nearby said they've they'd been waiting an hour.
D. S.
Thoroughly enjoyed gammon steaks my wife had a classic burger we both had dessert very nice just here visiting but would recommend.
P. T.
This Wetherspoon pub was very enjoyable. It got very busy at lunch time but the staff handled it well. The bar staff and others did a grand job. The Thursday curries are delicious. If you're GF, just switch the nan bread for extra papperdams and you'll have a gluten free meal. Try to sit by the windows with pleasant views over the river.
D. B.
Lovely building. Outside seating areas at the front and back. Service was quick. Food portions could of been a little bigger but did the trick.
M. G.
It's a Wetherspoons. Very cheap and lots to offer👌
A. B.
Amazing big open space and connected to a Travelodge. But you think they could use to promote both bussinesses better by collaborating ads.
R. L.
Tried the any 2 for £9.59 offer and the beef cottage pie was alright. Probably would be better if it was a stand alone dish in itself but I'm not complaining. Bar staff were polite but they looked severely overwork so please be nice and they'll be nice to you.
J. D.
Great priced food and tasted great. Only waited 5 minutes to get served and food arrived quickly.
N. H.
It's a basic whetherspoons. Good selection of booze and food at great prices. I'd give 4 stars if it wasn't for the fact it just happened to be that this particular outlet is housed in a very uninteresting, ugly, modern building. However, it was very spacious.
C. W.
Popped in today for Sunday brunch it was excellent value for money and delicious .Was here last month and tried a breakfast .Compliments to all who work in kitchen.Been here now every month I'm in York and of the opinion you will not get breakfast service anywhere else in York .The breakfasts gorgeous substantial and brilliant value for money.Only grumble is fix the abnormal lighting it's a bit dark .Was in here today 12 July 2021.Yes your breakfast was lovely as usual but that lighting in the corner omg.
M. U.
Just like most wetherspoons there is always one or two members of staff ignore you knowingly that you're next but serve someone white before you just because you're not white!!!
K. G.
Typical Weatherspoons. Enough said , Massive pub with plenty of seating. Food was really good
o. g.
Quite busy but still plenty of choice for seats
Polite staff
Good food and drinks
J. S.
Huge place, madly busy but food turned up quickly. What more can you ask for
B. C.
Lots of covid care still in place. Good mix of indoor and outdoor seating available. Reasonably accessible but restroom door was locked. I believe staff hold the key.
D. G.
New build spoons unlike many others in old adapted buildings hence not the character. Clean and modern with the standard menu and a good selection of ales. Worth stopping by but if you want character, plenty of other great bars in York.
R. F.
Good spoons, large space so loads of seats available, nice Riverside beer garden.
D. S.
Typical Wetherspoons bar, great choice of drinks, and standard Wetherspoons food at great value. The Postern Gate is spacious but with a lot of tables packed into it. Busy with students so try to time it to get a seat.
A. C.
Second time my wife and i have stayed here. Had room on
3rd floor. Reception staff very helpful. Only dissatisfaction was we were movedfrom the 1st room because of water problems. The room we were moved to,the water went off alltogether, hence toilet wouldnt
flush.
😳. Rooms really comfortable, and breakfast about 20steps away in a really good and busy wetherspoons.
On the whole really good stay.
B. F.
Called for breakfast and food later on in the day today and both were very good.
Although the place was very busy given the time of year, I ordered food and drinks via the app and I was served promptly with both ☺️.
C. D.
Big open spaced Weatherspoons, drinks and food are a good price.
s. B.
Usual Wetherspoons, ok when it's not to busy but tables not cleaned and slow service when it is.
Saying that Cheap and Cheerful
M.
Called in here on our way in to the city centre and again for breakfast. Its one of the nicer Wetherspoons with a large spacious interior and ample seating, a good selection of real ales and decent service. It's also far enough out from the centre to be a little quieter and so makes a good starting/finishing point if you are staying nearby like we were.
S. w.
Excellent much needed refreshment stop, good food and service.
D. L.
It's a weatherspoon, cheap and cheerful, a long wait to get served when the place is full, lots if staff behind the bar but not many serving
G. R.
Lovely modern non antique built Spoons , think they have Real Chef in there, manager and staff are top notch
C. F.
Nice new Spoons with glass roof, plenty of staff behind the bar serving and the food is even better than the average spoons🤩, I got more chips and extra salad on the chicken burger 👌
g. m. (.
Love Weatherspoons as always good value food and drink, but 1 star removed as food was not as good as usual on this visit.
T.
Lovely spoons. Standard food you expect from a weatherspoons establishment. Lovely view from the beer garden and super convenient if you stay at the Travelodge that is right above. Cheap booze and cheap food with a view; what more could you want?
L. H.
Regular pub stop before barbican theatre. Great atmosphere, helpful staff, stock a cider I like....what more can you ask.
J. B.
Really nice food and quick service. Usual Weatherspoons food and drink.
J. S.
Saturday its a very busy place , difficult to get a seat . Food is really good, meal is good value for money and often a drink is included.
P. S.
Just another basic weatherspoons, nice sat out overlooking the river.
a. r.
Wetherspoons are brilliant. Something for everyone at giveaway prices. Spent most of a snowy afternoon there on Saturday .Too slippery to go out. Great venue and meeting please.
J. C.
Beers ok, took a while to get served. Sort of in no mans land between two servers....
L. C.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Would recommend
R. A.
Been there about 22 years but still looking modern. Nice view onto the river. Staff are friendly and do there best. Popular with students and visitors. Usual Spoon's food. Just away from York center. Can get busy at times 😃
D. M.
Nice modern open plan pub with outdoor seating overlooking the river. Friendly staff and clean restroom.
D. W.
Very cosy pub,great service,food beer,all at a great price,I'll be back ,DW
C. M.
A traditional pub in York where we sat in a sunny window drinking cool beer, had a club sandwich was was faultless then one of the staff even went to the trouble to find a screwdriver and fix a door lock on one of the toilets so we could use the downstairs one. Customer service above and beyond well done
i. s.
Good food and atmosphere with the usual broad selection of draught ales. Keep it up Wetherspoons.
L. B.
Lovely place to enjoy a cheap drink and a meal. Staff professional and very busy.
A.
Pretty large weatherspoons right next to the city centre, and pretty much attached to the Travelodge if you are staying there.
Other than its size it's what you'd expect from weatherspoons. Cheap pints, decent food, and quick service.
Outside seating is available both at the back and the front, so you can chase the sun a bit if the tables are free.
J. J.
Favourite pub of all time, all the staff are lovely, food is always spot on and I never have to wait long for food nor drinks. These guys don't get paid enough! The staff have to put up with some disgusting things from customers, I don't know how they put up with it. They all deserve a medal 🏅⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
m. m.
First pub we went to in York.add to queue for about 10 mins to get in.but with current situation you have to get use to it.nice big pub plenty of room inside.a good selection of ale and spirits at a acceptable price.the only reason 4 stars is because went back day after for breakfast and couldn't have anything because the kitchen was getting cleaned.
R. S.
Shame about the long queues to get served, so we only had a drink, so can't comment on the food.
A. S.
Beutifull place to grab a cheap drink. cheapest but still worth drinking £2.00 for a whiskey n coke around 40% or £2.10p for a Ruddles at 2.7% that's a steal x
M. R.
It was ok, table service a bit slow given it was quiet
A. G.
It's a Wetherspoons so you should know what to expect. My group of 6 friends had breakfast here twice as our accommodation didn't provide cooked breakfast. Also had an evening meal once. It's basic good food. Nothing fancy but no complaints about the food or the service.
P. M.
Good food, good prices, good service, clean premises, what more could a person want.
R. D.
Roomy and spacious pub, serving reasonably priced pub grub.
Good value!
J. M.
Needs a vit of a tidy up, looks dated since we last visited. Toilets were disgusting too.
M. P.
Great food and friendly .
Still no Leffe in this pub in 4others I visited 😞
J. C.
A busy time of day to visit so hard to get a free table. We had drinks only and at Wetherspoon prices no complaints at all. Nothing really bad about the place, just lacks a little charm but cheap and cheerful 😃
C. “. R.
Always busy, pretty decent though. Right next to a Travelodge which is handy for that. It's spoons, I don't know what else I can provide in terms of individuality though. I think all i can suggest is on a BBQ beef burger, please put the sauce directly on the burger. Otherwise you will dip your chips and bits into the sauce, eat the burger and realise that was the sauce that is the BBQ element of the burger...
B. M.
Great beers and food was 10 out of 10...staff fantastic all need a pay rise 🍺🍺👍
E. L.
Ticks all the boxes (city centre, next to a river, plenty of space, good staff) but at the end of the day it is still a Wetherspoons.
A. W.
Cheap drinks and a big bar with plenty of tables, but slow service and the food looked terrible. We decided not to order after seeing somebody complain about their food.
K.
Lovely pub, with outside space and very friendly staff. Enjoyed my meal in a nice atmosphere.
P. M.
Standard Wetherspoon. Decent, friendly service, decent beer. Good location if youre going to an event at York Barbican.
a. b.
The staff are very welcoming and friendly and helpful, food very good 👍
K. M.
Really nice place good food and the staff are welcoming
A. S.
Our first visit to a pub post covid19, lots of visible measures in place to ensure safety, little niggles such as staff wrapping cutlery and handling the cutlery with the forked end and the blade of the knife and the bowl of the spoon was a little off-putting, the meal in itself was up to the normal Weatherspoons standard. Glad it's back open or we would have gone hungry lol.
s. s.
Decent place. Nice atmosphere here every time I've been.
E. J.
Visited for breakfast on a busy bank holiday monday, the staff were polite but looked rushed off their feet.
The food was good, pretty standard for a Wetherspoons, good portion sizes and cheap so ideal for anyone looking for a reasonable breakfast.
The venue itself needs a good clean. Didn't really want to sit down as the chairs were so stained and marked. The light was encased in cobwebs and the whole place looked like it needed a good clean.
M. H.
I recommend going on Curry Thursday for an amazing curry + pint for £8.20
As far as Weatherspoons go, this is very standard, you know what to expect.
p. j.
What can I say, this is weatherspoon food and drink at reasonable prices, the place was clean and tidy and staff friendly. We were served quickly from ordering, only thing wrong on the day we visited there was no hot drinks as the machine was broken. But will still go again.
B. P.
Excellent pub! Always loves WeatherSpoons! I particularly liked the unique carpet. We were a party of 4, ordered 2 sirloin steaks and 2 chicken burgers. The steaks were a little fatty but well worth the money! The chicken burgers were delicious howver there was a little too much bread for us. We would definately reccomend having a evening drink looking over the water outside. We consumed 6 large cocktail pitches, 2 glasses of gin, 2 pints of cider and a pint of lager. We had a woddle bacl to our hotel which was conveniently close by. Will definately be visiting again at some point over the next couple of days. Low priced meals and drinks that all can enjoy! Staff are extremely polite and were willing to change my order i made a mistake on. Highly recommended!! :-)
M. L.
Its OK. With Wetherspoons you know what you are getting. Nice view of you can get a table by the river.
L. W.
This was our first port of call on our way in to York. Good atmosphere, super staff, freindly, really enjoyed our meal.
C. H.
Its an OK witherspoons, it's always busy and a good place to get loaded on cheap drinks if your into drinking, but food wise everytime I come here there's always something wrong with one of our meals and normally a long wait. Staff are friendly and its in a decent location
H. H. B.
Nice ice cold Shipyard
j. d.
Food was lovely and despite the pub being packed it was served quickly.
S. K.
Very nice and friendly place. Prices were very reasonable.b

Called in for a curry which was very good. The ladies would not get loo of the day!
M. S.
This was extremely busy on Saturday night, seating was difficult to find. The food was good and served fairly quickly. The staff worked so hard, I give them 10 out of 10. Well done.
J. C.
What a massive difference this weatherspoons is compared to one's I've recently visited in the North East...Far better...
M. C.
Cider was cheap and I made sure that I had my 5 a day for the next 2 days it's a tad blurred after that. (I know that I pinched a chip )and it was the same day I bought some restraining straps
T. F.
Arrived on Sunday afternoon 7:30pm to be told kitchen was closed, then on Monday Arrived at 8pm ordered food and then was told no tea or coffees were available as they didn't have any milk and had not received their delivery. So we were forced to go to a local shop and buy a 4 pint bottle, why the manager did not think of getting some petty cash and go to the shop I do not know.
M.
Epic God-Bites yet drinks service is slow. #redsanta, #silversurfershavinitlarge
A. H.
Nice place. Nice food. Reasonable price
D. P.
Good location. It's a wethies so good prices.
T. G.
Food really nice. Staff very helpful.
d. f.
Tables outside were dirty. Didn't actually see anyone wipe them. But staff did clear them eventually. It was busy to fair.
b. g.
Had to wait to order food, everything was good though
P. W.
Update June 2022.very busy when we arrived with queue to order and few dirty tables.
Cleaned table myself and we didn't wait long for food.okay as we expected for a wetherspoons, but nothing special.
Not as busy by time we left but still dirty tables about the place.
I find it really annoying that most of ladies toilets you couldn't shut doors let alone lock them.
Okay if you don't expect too much !!
m. f.
Food wasn't very good ordered large mix grill but meat was little pieces would hate to see a normal one
R. I.
Its was ok standard Spoons. Food was ok nothing special. The chips I dont think was fresh.
But i would recommend the wings and drinks.
L. N.
A great place to start an all day drinking session around York - beer and breakfast! Plenty of choices of both food and beers
A. S.
This is a great looking place but I do not make a habit of going in The Postern Gate
I. H.
A pleasant pit stop and a cheap pint on our never ending walk
C. H.
My friend said it was the best sweet chilli wrap she had ever tasted. My curry was also delicious apart from that Nan bread which was rock hard, enjoyed nevertheless and for such a cheap meal plus a pint not going to complain. Thanks again Spoons!
S. A.
When we arrived around 11.30am every single table that wasnt occupied (I would say easily over 20 empty tables) needed clearing. They all had dirty plates and glasses on. We moved dirty crockery etc to another table. Then when we ordered our meal we asked for the table to he wiped. Someone quickly came and wiped it but still left crumbs on table. The food was up to expected standard but we both had a sausage and some onion rings missing from our order. I think a bit more care should be taken before sending food out. And they definitely need more attention to cleanliness
N. C.
Usual spoons
bit smelly in lounge but there is seating outside . cheap beer and food .Very busy place
J. S.
Very busy place to visit, its a little grimy in parts but the food is as good as a wetherspoons can be with relatively quick service
M. A. A.
Good atmosphere. Good place to eat in york city centre
B. F.
Very disappointed. Limited rather unattractive outside space. Hugely busy with not enough staff. Food was average, arrived after about 25 minutes but drinks did not arrive until we had almost finished our meal. Despite sanitising equipment available, we did not feel very Covid safe. We will not repeat our visit here
K. S.
Very busy but staff very pleasant. Food not overly hot but was ok.
D. M.
Typical Wetherspoon's, excellent environment, good food served quickly.
B. S.
Did well for restrictions at the moment. Didn't enjoy the food . I couldn't eat my chicken burger but the fries were lovely.
Staff were polite and helpful. The pub was clean. Didn't get a sense of being overcrowded.
It's a fair walk from York city centre but then you get to actually sit down as you walk in, no queue.
R. B.
Check what the specials are before you order cos we weren't handled a leaflet till after 🤷♀️
K. N.
As always wetherspoons great breakfast and relaxed atmosphere
J. M.
Lovely staff. Plenty of space and great food. Breakfast 10/10
R. E.
Nice place but table service using the app is horrendous. 25 minutes wait
L. E. B.
The meals are nice in here. We visit this pub every time we in York.
J. W.
Lovely place and with plenty of outdoor seating in the courtyard and around the corner, this area over looks the river Ouse, lovely views. Table service for drinks very quick. Unfortunately the rule of 6 applied with covid restrictions and we were a group of 7. So we were told could not sit together, so we sat at 2 tables outdoors as instructed by a male member of staff, with no problem as we understood the restrictions. Luckily a lovely gentleman moved from the next table, to another further one further away, so we could sit at the next table. The unfriendly male staff member then went on to tell us, "but you can't talk to each other!" ?? 🤔
(Sorry he was the reason for not giving a 5* review)
J. R.
Good prices, very slow to clear tables
M. D.
Busy place , wait for food was a bit long , staff were friendly
R. M.
Great service from the staff and the cheery barman in particular!
S. E.
Typical spoons. Bit out of the city centre but not too far. Overlooking the River at the rear. Great value pint and glass of wine.
D. B.
As far as Wetherspoon pubs go this may be the cleanest and best kept I've been in, EVER. If you want cheap and cheerful but without the usual sticky carpets and homeless crowd, definitely check this place out.
J. F.
Frequent visitors over the years and our first visit since March 2020. Had seen bad reviews recently but can report that all was okay apart from one drinks machine out of order resulting in queues. Food was good but not a great choice of ales. Hope they get up to their usual standard.
B. A.
First time for lunch here. Tasty steak and salad for lunch.
T. B.
Good beer. App ordered. Food could be a little better but you get what you pay for.
V. M.
This is my local Wetherspoons. It gets very busy at times and the kitchen seems to have regular meltdowns leaving people waiting a long time for food, or sometimes no food at all. However, the staff are helpful and friendly. It just seems rather overloaded.
I. J. C.
Very busy when we called in for breakfast, during first Christmas Market weekend. However we did secure a table, both times and staff showed nothing but efficiency, when under pressure.
I will make this point though: will management PLEASE make the ladies toilets more obvious! When following the big 'TOILETS' sign, it leads ladies to the gents...but not the ladies. I had to ask, as did a lady, who was looking when I was. Today (Sunday) I had to guide bewildered ladies to our point of relief, which is hiding in a dark corner with a, very, hard to spot 'Females' sign, stuck on a dark wall!
If the sign can't be made more conspicuous, then please provide us with torches!🤦🏻♀️
M. M.
Great atmosphere definitely a place to go before your night out, great rendezvous point for all your muckers to make sure you meet at the right point before your night of disaster where one of you will probably end up losing a shoe or even more.
C. S.
Nice food, friendly staff, good prices and chilled atmosphere
Only issue was I went into 4 different toilet cubicles and only 1 had a working lock....not a big deal but a bit of an issue when your on your own and desperate!
D. G.
Lovely area for drinks as with all wetherspoons pubs.
Clean environment with still an element of social distancing in place whilst keeping on top of the cleanliness.
Come on the Friday and had drinks and a chocolate brownie desert, and Saturday just for drinks.
5*****
R. C.
Clean tables. Ordered via the weatherspoons app. The drinks arrived quickly. Nothing negative to say.
J.
Popped in for a drink and place order with no problems and arrived very quickly. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and answered any questions I had.
t. c.
Very busy pub. Visited on a Saturday when york Christmas Market was on.
R.
Went In today after been around town shopping so called in for a swift few pints. When arrived we was greeted by a friendly staff member who then proceeded to tell us to check in via the NHS app. ( Great I thought, a place that takes Covid serious and has measure in place). We then continued on once checked in to find a table... As we walked on it dawned on us just how busy the place was, luckily we arrived as one person was leaving. Service was quick once we ordered via the app and we could see tables been cleaned and cleared which was a good sign. Not been to a JD put for a long time as usually not that way out, but after today will certainly call back. Keep up the good work guys!
G. A.
Why can't all other's keep up. Fantastic value for money.food is good. Real ales average 1.40 cheaper for same beer every where else.
T. B.
Very busy, do feel weatherspoons has gone down hill abit
E. P.
Yup... It's a spoons.
Pros: good service and drinks
Cons: a lack of staffing
J. N.
Tidy, relatively cheap, however wait times are often very long, and staff seem unable to cope at times
d. l.
Ok place, great for an early beer/ breakfast, I like it , peaceful /chilling out, do your own thing x
S. C.
Great value for money.
Speedy and efficient service.
Meet and greet chap on the door (with the long hair) was brilliant. He had a friendly welcome for everyone, with great banter, knew what tables he had available and dispatched people quickly.
Very busy, but able to accommodate everyone.
App ordering worked well and smoothly.
C. I.
Really good food and helpful staff.
J. H.
Nice priced drinks as low as £1.49 a pint
D. W.
Wandered into this place after a few shandies just before 11pm, desperate for something to eat. Without quibbling, they knocked up two burgers, despite the time. Top notch establishment.
m. q.
Nice Witherspoon good food and comfortable surroundings
A. P.
Good food and drinks. Nice people.
P. M.
Food took a long time to come. When I queried it they apologised and bought it straight back over. However could tell some of it had been sitting around a while e.g. onion rings were cold.
However staff showing us in etc were really good.
Bit of a mixed visit but would still reccomend
D. B.
Weatherspoons have done lots of conversions of old buildings in to quirky, interesting pubs. This isnt one of those. A cold building and tepid pood made this pub one to miss next time we are in town. There are plenty of other better pubs in town. We didn't come back again during our stay in York
A. H.
Large spacious and tidy pub. The staff here are great and very well managed. Friendly and welcoming. Nice place for a rest stop while you explore busy York
S.
A very typical wetherspoons good pricing structure the only thing I will say the food was piping hot and very nice we had a nice few hours there
R. W.
In for breakfast twice. Good service. Clean tables
P. W.
Nice pub, loved my meal. Nice relaxing day.
P. N.
Usual stuff for wspoons however at approx 1pm last nights glasses plates etc were still on the bar....irrespective of a sign saying "short staffed" the priority should be cleanliness.....1 member clean up others serve. Simple🤷♂️
T. C.
Good size, clean and good service and great offers on food and drink..
B. J.
Food was ok but the place was filthy
D. B.
Smaller inside than it looks, service is a bit slow even when it's quiet. But it's a Wetherspoon's, you get what you pay for, and it's good value for money.
R. W.
Excellent location, excellent service and Whetherspoons food :-)
翻.
Out for a family trip at the time and wanted to sit down for lunch and go somewhere simple enough that we could each pick something on one menu. Went here and got our food (chicken&ribs, wings&ribs). I had the fish & chips with mushy peas and it was delightful. Crispy batter and soft chips.
The place has unlimited hot drink options and self service for water. There's also plenty of condiment refills you can grab yourself. Saves plenty of time than having to ask the staff constantly for simple things.
Place was reallt busy with people coming and going but staff were on top of everything with both cleaning and service and were all friendly.
And that handy app means that ordering can become even easier.
TL;DR: Great food, efficient staff, clean place.
A. J.
Very nice but I only had a drink
k. n.
Very busy. Food is good value.
G. O.
Great food. Cheap prices. It is what it is
N. R.
Its was ok. Service ok. Food ok, I got too big a portion.
R. H.
Standard Wetherspoon, however found food and floor service v.good
D. E.
Great beer 🍻 great prices, £1.99 for a pint of Doom Bar.
Great service and friendly helpful staff 😀
C. B.
Nice restaurant, interior is well kept. Plenty of seating but always busy with people. Nice courtyard outdoor seating area with table service. It's a spoons so standard drinks, food and prices, but means you can't go wrong. Service is fine and prompt enough. Bathrooms are kept clean.
K. B.
Great food and a lovely quiet place to eat it.
M. L.
Very impressed by the scale of exhibits. Especiall the old royal train coaches, which were a personal favourite of mine.
For anyone who likes modern history, science, engineering or simply loves railways. This is a very interesting museum.
There is also a massive exhibition of memorabilia, like tablewear and silverware from times when different companies operated. Showing what a degree of pride was held in running services.
In the Great Hall. This is full of locomotives. Consisting of steam, diesel and electricity powered units. In some cases being developed and made in the same era.
For anyone with a fascination with railway history. The Railway Museum does not disappoint. It should easily occupy at least two hours of your time and possibly even more.
An enjoyable experience and certainly worthwhile. Although there is a certain amount of sadness in seeing such great machines idle and dormant. It would have been a nice addition to have some video footage available to describe what theseme engines were like in use.
Nonetheless. It was a privilege to see such a testament to the railways. Well worth the time.
G. G.
Everything good about this place. the food quickly delivered and tasty.the men who met us at the door,so helpful as there where seven of us,one I believe named Darren the other didn't see a name.they helped on more than one occasion.a credit to Wetherspoons.
P. P.
Very clean and food done lovely
J. M.
The drink I ordered with my meal was incorrect I informed the person who delivered the meals which he took away after a period of time no replacement drink arrived I approached the bar staff to sort the problem out they were very unhelpful and quite aggressive in the end I was given a different drink I thought the attitude of the staff was apporling the pub wasn't even busy at the time.
J.
Decent enough. Great prices on beer. Food reasonably priced though the XL mixed grill isn't worth the money. Cutlery was dirty last time but otherwise decent enough for a bit of cheap food and a pint.
S. R.
Love this place. Great value for money and full of history
a. h.
Good value food and drink, great selection of beer and lager
N. H.
Good food and drink, very sticky, needs a deep clean, staff without headphones in when serving, then 5 star
A. D.
I was in postern gate 1 week earlier and spoke
To a young lady ,I told her that I didn't want to order a nother drink as I had ask asked for a drink 40 minutes earlier, I didn't know she was the manageress, so when we went back in she served us herself, we didn't have to wait 40min for a drink, we were happy and it proved that I polite word does work.
A. M.
Been twice now much better than the other one .
Staff are great very covid aware its a wetherspoons pub prices are good, good food deals, good drinks lots of tables can't beat it .
It's the best in York even though they only have 2, it's worth a go I will definitely be going back .
Andy M
S. S.
Great atmosphere, great selection of drinks and at £2.15 for a pint of guest ale, great value.
I would have given it 5 stars but as with most Wetherspoons they need to clear and clean tables more efficiently. We went in on 5 different visits and 3 of them we had to clear glasses and pots.
A. H.
Very busy pub always a good selection of real ales
R. A.
Nice food, big amount, value for money
G. S.
Not a bad place. They have some vegetarian meal options and also serves none alcoholic beers. Service is a bit slow however.
J. W.
First night we went for tea and the food was good, second night we just could not get a seat even after going for a walk and returning a couple of times during the course of the night.
Then went for breakfast and was told that they could not serve food because a new carpet was being laid by the kitchen, which was fair enough I asked roughly how long and was told they weren't sure, so we sat for about 20 minutes and saw food coming out, so went up to ask if we could order and was told it would be 40 to 45 minutes before they were serving again. Would have been nice to be informed of this sooner.
G. D.
A classic pub menu at very good prices. You have to order at the bar, but the food turns up very quickly.
When it's busy the only tables you'll find will have dirty plates on, and they need you sharpen up their act in this aspect.
Otherwise great for a quick bite or a full meal.
Open early for breakfast too
S. C.
Went for breakfast it would of been better if the breakfast hot but it was only warm
A.
Not the best score I'm afraid, we had to clear our own table coffee from machine was cold as was breakfast. We usually enjoy a spoons breakfast but this weekend wasn't our best.
S. F.
Good beers and nice big location
E. M.
Great pub and food, only down side is couple of men shouting and no members of staff asking them to tone it down, which puts other customers off especially when you're sitting eating breakfast
J. D.
Decent Wetherspoons but sometimes food can be hit and miss. For example the burger in the picture
S. L. W.
Great meeting up pub in York. Friendly staff and great prices for food and real ales. My only gripe was the selection of ales was a bit poor.
K. T.
Can get very busy, we thought this one was a bit more off the beaten track for our family to attend given we were staying in the Travelodge next door. It got incredibly busy! Great sized venue and a lovely breakfast. We did have to return a fish dish as it was more batter than fish but the problem was rectified immediately and very pleasantly by staff.
C. W.
Great Wetherspoon service and value. Food was great prompt even though it was quite busy.
P. T.
I have already reviewed this place more than a year ago but the review disappeared last night. I'll try again once more only. Whenever we stay overnight in another city we always track down a Wetherspoons because we know more or less what to expect. They all have the same menus, so we can always order our favourites and the beer and surroundings are always excellent.
I. A.
Used the app to order our food and drinks. The app worked very well and the friendly staff brought our order very quickly. The pub is nice and airy inside and only a stone's throw from the city walls. The only negative aspect about our visit was the fact that the water in the toilets was very hot.
D. W.
1st choice on menu not available had to choose alternative
L. D. C.
Wetherspoons a 10 min walk from the city. Sits near by a river, so nice views. An old mill also there. A seating area, I believe only to have drinks and no children are allowed in that area. Food is reasonably priced fresh and hot. We ordered vegetarian breakfast.
A. M.
We were very happy with our stay for New year's Eve. The staff were so friendly and helpful, even though they were so busy. The rooms are very small but clean and comfortable. The hospitality was excellent from arriving to bucks fizz and mince pies, new year's Eve day was fruit cake drinks and mince pies followed by a fabulous party. The food was generally good however the serving station needs much note organisation. Don't be put off by the bad reviews, keep in mind what you pay... not 4 star prices that's for sure... We would definitely happily stay here again.
g. w.
Lovely food and friendly staff
W. A. a. H. C.
Right next to Travelodge and only about 7 minutes walk from the shambles. Nice window seats overlooking the river and the museum grounds. Efficient staff and always there's a brilliant range of beers, cider and wine to accompany your food.
D. E.
Standard spoons all clean and great beer
R. C.
A typical Wetherspoons , cheap food and drink . Be wary when ordering food from the menu , as some of the meals were on a separate sheet listed as Managers Specials at a fraction of the cost .
A. G.
Good location and food enjoyed
M. L.
Wetherspoons are my go-to place when I'm out and about. Food is cheap, usually ok and the staff are usually pretty good
Postern Gate this morning...... Richard, chap on the door, was nice and chatty, pointing me to empty tables. Didn't mention they had no chef available so breakfast could be an hour+. I came out, along with lots of others. I realise this could happen, but I like to be told
D. B.
Very friendly staff and your typical wetherspoons experience.
L. B.
Very busy on the Saturday afternoon we visited. Was difficult to find a seat, waiting times an hour for food. Staff were friendly but could see they were busy. Glasses and plates weren’t cleared which was annoying.
T. T.
Typical Wetherspoons. You can order via the app but sometimes there are offers on and table service is required. Table service can be a bit lacking at times. No complaints with the food.
K. K.
I have given this weatherspoons 3 stars because it didn't seem very organized we got our meal very quick but not what we really wanted as they did not have anymore so we have something else but we had quite a wait for our drinks the toilets weren't very clean and the toilet floors full of water I cant say I felt very safe I wouldn't say it's a calm atmosphere in this pub I have visited better
D. S.
Lovely breakfast at a good price
1) large breakfast
2) traditional breakfast
D. M.
We always come here for a meal with or without the kids.
The service is usually always great and quick. We've had a few hiccups in the past but nothing dramatic. I'd recommend using the app to order food (or even drinks) because there have been occasions where I've been overlooked so the bar staff could serve an attractive female instead.
The food is lovely, good portions. We tend to get the large mixed grill but the burgers, fish and currys are all great choices too
C. S.
Nice place, big and spacey ,price of drinks and food are good not expensive.
L. P.
Great large pub in the heart of York, and great value for money as it is a JD Wetherspoon Pub too. The food and drink was great, the staff great and the toilets are nice and clean. Would definitely go there again!
E. S.
Very busy at times ,delays cleaning tables and main gripe no pizas on the .menu
M. H.
Cheap beer friendly staff nice and clean during quiet times food is very good value
S. G.
Always liked the setting of this 'Spoons' pub. Next to the river Foss with the York walls on the other side. Good place to go for refreshment before heading into the city centre or, like us walking the walls. Staff were relatively friendly, food was tasty and arrived quickly.
L. E.
It was ok the food was nice
F. B.
Nice place would have given it five stars but my chicken burger was not great the chicken was dry and the bun was rock hard the chips were lovely.
M. D.
Good size pub but can get very busy and tables become scarce. Standard wetherspoons product range but service was very prompt.
f. f.
Like most wetherspoons you know what you are going to get before you walk in.
Cheap food good value and fairly quick service.
The staff keep this busy place tidy, the kids menu is great value for money and most of the items on the menu are good value for money.
Cheap and cheerful no frills pub experience.
M. W.
Tired round the edges , really needs a refit , snd not very clean , we all had upset tummy after eating here , table and cutlery were dirty ....used to love coming here but might leave it a while now :(
J. W.
Pretty busy for Wednesday night
P. D.
Great meal, good beers.
B. S.
Usual Witherspoon's type place but quite untidy, lots of mess on floors especially around staff side tables where there were bins with missing lids overflowing with rubbish, sauces for customers in cardboard boxes with lids ripped off, staff were very pleasant .
L. j. B.
Exactly what you expect from a weatherspoons. Friendly and inexpensive
D. W.
Great place to meet your friends and have a meal,or just drinks really good selection of food and drink price's are good to also is a great place for people with children
H. M.
Great for pre drinks if you are going to a show at The Barbican. Great value and very fast service.
c. J.
Good cheal lacal and world wide ales n beers, food is simple and usually usually nice for the price, burgers recommended.
J. C.
Had lunch on a stop over to hull, food & atmophere really good.
c. l.
Fairly nice wetherspoons, but drinks take ages to come and the food is often sold out so the range is reduced.
l. m.
Excellent pub food, good choice and quick service
R. A.
Big place, staff helpful and pleasant. Food came quickly and tasted 😋 good as usual for a weather spoons
R. T.
One of the busiest Wetherspoon pubs we have been in. But very fast service and as usual great prices.
g. b.
good pint! as people know the prices are brilliant, no stella!😔 as always tables need clearing faster, as in every wetherspoons I've been in.
A. F.
A typical spoons nicely laid out pricing structure good staff very polite we found the food vey hot and freshly prepared
M. L.
Good breakfast and steak club plus unlimited coffee. Quick service
K. R.
Lovely food friendly staff.
N. M.
Very busy couldn't find a table, eventually found one but no chairs so had to scout round for chairs, ordered drinks on the app fast delivery.
S. H.
Great value for money. Place was packed, but ordered on app & had food within 15 minutes
V. M.
Nice pub. Bar staff need more training as I was overlooked at the bar when 2 men were served before me when they got to the bar after me. Also I informed z member of staff that a holdall was left unattended at the side of our table. The member of staff came over opened the bag and took it back to the bar. Anything could have been in that bag. I have to wonder what security/safety training g the staff have had!!!
A. M.
Good pub but on both visits they had run out of strongbow cider and last night white zinfandel and other wines by the glass so had to buy a bottle at £12 not very good for wetherspoons.
A. D.
Food OK, but service terrible! Brought dinner and no cutlery and didn’t tell us that you have to get them from the bar. Brought deserts and didn’t clear the mains away and when asked to clear the dirty plates waitress rolled her eyes! If you offer table service it’s supposed to be table service! Don’t market you all A’s table service and then give “cant be arsed” attitude. Won’t go back to that ‘Spoons
B. G. W.
So came back to weatherspoons York what happened in a year waited outside for 20 minutes no 1 on front of house empty tables inside finally got a table had to wait another 30 minutes to get a drink 1 member of staff was more interested in serving her friends then went on her break busy but not mad busy and it's only a wensday night sorry Tim get your house in order 1 star and that's being jenerous loads of staff but no organisation. So decided to give weather spoons another chance glad I did got seated right a way ordered on the app came with in about 10 minutes but thay we're busy with cocktails then orded a bowl of chips came piping hot so weather's back in my good book s must av been a off night 5 star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Y. R.
Brilliant value for money. Not the most upmarket of places but always packed. That's because they sell beer and food at super cheap prices. Ordered 3 meals and drinks and paid £27. Nuts. Food is regular pub grub, no frills but service is fast. We come here often for a bite on our way into town. Only downside is sometimes you have to fight for a table.
A. G.
Busy but staff friendly and helpful
N.
A lovely chilled out breakfast. Efficient and friendly service. Food was great 👌.
R. L.
Large busy Weatherspoon's pub. Cheap drinks wine and beer with special promotions of spirit mixes. Good service for a busy long bar. Very good food menu usual stuff.
Riverside seats and tables and outside area next to bar room with parasols.
m. a.
Friendly, efficient staff & pleasant atmosphere. Most importantly, they serve real ale at reasonable prices.
P. H.
We had lunch there whilst spending a few days in York over the Christmas period having just arrived in town and the pub literally being just over the road from our hotel. Our overall experience was good. The food was of good quality, served in a reasonable time period and very well priced (when you consider york pub grub prices). The environment was pleasant. The only downside was that the place was very busy (as everywhere would have been that time of year) so we ended up having to seat ourselves at a dirty table moving all the dirty crockery and glasses ourselves as the staff were so overwhelmed otherwise we would have had no table- exceptionally busy or just understaffed to save money? I dont know but were the sort of people to 'deal with things' and not 'sweat the small stuff'. Others may feel differently of course. Wouldn't hesitate to eat there again for a budget lunch. Evening meals i would always take at a 'proper'- if you will excuse the term- restaurant (allow for a far higher pricetag tho)
S. P.
I get we're still gripped by covid, but they have shut off a third of the seating by the windows, and tried to ram more tables in the available space, no room to move between them. That's if you're lucky enough to get a table.
W. S.
Great meal and nice pint
R. D.
Very busy, good service , not many people wearing masks when leaving their tables. Thank goodness for the Wetherspoon app.
L. S.
I was there yesterday and ordered sweet potato, chickpea and spinach curry. There was a surfeit of poppadoms and pita, no doubt to compensate for the lack of curry, which barely covered the bottom of the small serving dish. Spinach and chickpeas were not visible to the naked eye. The small helping of rice didn't prevent me leaving the restaurant hungry. Tastewise, acceptable.
P. E.
Best wetherspoons I've ever been in. Always come here when on holiday in york. Cheap ale and lovely staff. 100% a must if you go to york .
J. B.
Visited for breakfast. Only 1 coffee machine working which caused a queue constantly of around 7 to 10 people at a time. Weatherspoons you need to think about having 3 or 4 machines spread around the restaurant and not all in one place.
K. H.
Good food. Nice pub
L. H.
Very busy and only 2 hot drinks dispensers. Tables were not cleared very quickly and not sanitised. A little worrying..

Put good measures in place for Covid and food up to scratch, but service for drink orders from the table are very slow indeed. Much slower than other Wetherspoons for some reason?

Great place to visit next to the river, service outside though staff are really friendly, they could do with a little help it can take more than a few minutes to place an order......

Great food and great staff, I usually come once a week in the mornings and order by phone.
The majority of the time my drink and meal come within a minute of one another and obviously the food is great being a Wetherspoons.
I dont really stay for long but it's location is great for scenic photos round the corner.
