F. L.A chance find just outside the city walls. Great selection of craft, draft and bottled beers. Very pleasant ambiance. Very good staff... So good we popped in for second visit and tried a third time but they weren't open as early as it was advertised on Friday afternoon.

D. J.A very different bar to what it used to be! I loved the beer selection and the crowd in there was nice. But I remembered it used to be a TV free pub so we picked it to avoid the footy. My fault but it did mean it wasn't what I was looking for that night. I'll have to have another visit.

The house regulars are great. Not a Fosters or Carling in sight in the specials board.
The good is worth having too. Pollo pesto chicken pizza was mmmm.

N. W.Too many great pubs in York, this is another one. First time I came in here a few years ago it was a York Brewery (RIP) pub, now independent, great range of ales, ciders& perrys.
C. M.The food is reasonably priced and always very tasty here. The Rook & Gaskill has a huge beer selection, lots of board games and it's own wood-fired pizza oven. The pub is dog friendly and overall has a welcoming atmosphere. My only complaint is that service is sometimes on the less than friendly side when you're ordering. They do accept cards, but there is a £5 minimum spend on card payments.

M. L.We called in last night and tbh I was surprised af the huge selection of beers available. Had an interesting Norwegian craft beer plus a dark local brew , the wife was on Hendricks & fever tree. Staff are really nice and the history behind the pub name interesting.

M. W.Time and time again Rook and Gaskill provided me with an incredible pizza, a great selection of beer and a welcoming atmosphere.
I have been "regularly" drinking at the R&G for several years now and I have yet to have a bad experience.
The bar is small and can get crowded on a busy day but (due to a recent renovation) the venue is chic and pleasant to be in. The smoking area outside is also pleasant - you can watch them cook the pizza in their outside pizza oven!
Dog friendly and a great selection which rotates frequently. I will be back again soon!
E. L.I went here for a meal as I had downloaded the menu and it looked like decent food: homemade stonebaked pizzas and homemade burgers. I had a burger. Although it was a decent size, the burger was underseasoned and overcooked with no juices left so no flavour. The thick-cut, skin-on chips had been fried in a tasteless oil so were disappointing, as were the onion rings in their tasteless batter. All in all nothing had any flavour. I didn't finish the meal as it wasn't worth it.
The pub itself was OK but did not look as welcoming inside as I had expected from the outside.
