This lovely, historic, Grade II listed pub is a gem. Full of character with a great range of seating options. Visiting York and stopped by midweek, mid-afternoon. Staff were really friendly and the choice of drinks was good; I really enjoyed my couple of pints of Hobgoblin IPA. Really enjoyed the music too. Would love to return one evening for the advertised live music sessions.

Excellent collection of beer, cider and gin. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food is served in this very old atmospheric pub. You are lucky if you get a table at this popular location in the centre of York.

We just hopped in without knowing anything about this place. We just wanted some beer and foods. But the food was magnificent for a very good price. We ordered some sandwiches which came from heaven. It was one of the best lunches I had in years. And also the selections of beers was very good and the staff was nice, quick and friendly. Especially compared to most of the venues in York, where they suffer staff shortages. Definitely the must visit for York!

Cozy and great ambiance. Among the wide variety of beers and ciders, you may find some exquisite local ciders. However, you shall taste them by asking for a half of a pint since they are not offered on 1/3 of pint as the beers do. Overall, a great experience.

It's a great little pub. With a great atmosphere. They have a range of ales, beers and other drinks to choose from. The staff are welcoming, polite and friendly. The bar and seating areas are kept clean and tidy. The food can be a little costly depending on what you ask for, but it is worth it, its tasty and really good quality. We will definitely be coming back here on our next visit to York.

Lovely oldie worldie pub, have been before and never lets me down. Not a big pub and you have to time it just right other wise you wont get in. Fish finger sandwich was delicious and came with a generous helping of chips and salad also had the mulled cider delicious.

This is a great old fashioned pub in York Centre. We have been in a few times as its very handy for a drink whilst you are waiting for a bus in nearby Piccadilly. It's dog friendly and serves food which looks great but we haven't eaten here yet. Each time we've been in we've chatted to the people around us, usually people having a city break in York, it's the sort of pub that encourages strangers to hold conversations which I really like. We'll definitely be back.

This is a good old country pub but in the heart of a city. The staff are welcoming and the place is too. It's like sitting in your front room drinking beer with your mates. There's the occasional line music twice a week and a quiz. Great selection of beers presented really well and I just can't fault it

Highly recommend this place very nice bar that's stood the test of time and we loved being here. Had a few scrumpys, great selection of drinks and spirits for those that prefer. Tried a few rosies all were very nice.. plus the food looked amazing and staff were great. The whole design of the place is fantastic is busy but not too busy. It's exactly what we were hoping to walk into and had a great time here. We will be back here for sure my favourite bar that we walked into that night.

One of the oldest pubs in York. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Fab fish finger sandwich! Live music some nights too. Quite small, long, narrow bar, so go early. The tuns are barrels, but my favourite bit is the stone step as you walk in. So well-worn it makes you wonder how many feet have trodden it over the centuries and found a warm welcome inside.

A really cute little pub with nick nacks everywhere to keep you occupied while having a drink. Didn’t have the food but it looked great. The lady working was an absolute icon. She had a really cool Mario tattoo and fashion sense was amazing. I just felt she should know how epic she is.

A very nice and cosy pub, with a lovely interior that's full of character. The staff were helpful and kind throughout the whole visit. The food was tasty, served in generous portions, very nicely presented and arrived quickly after ordering as well. I would particularly recommend the mushy peas - the best I've ever tried. Prices were also very respectable. Would suggest that anyone planning to go to York should visit this pub.

Beautiful pub in York. The inside is amazing. Classic medieval pub. The atmosphere inside wasn't great. The pub inside was ice could and the selection of the beer wasn't great. Didn't try the food but I wouldn't, the place was freezing cold. Not a fun of the music either. It felt to be in a very commercial chain pub when instead I was expecting something more characteristics. Please turn on the heating there.

Popped in here on a Thursday lunchtime for a few pints of the black stuff. Good range of beers and the like available from very hospitable bar ladies. I felt very much at home. The Guinness was really good, and the service was at a superior level! Only downside was it was a little expensive, but I'd sooner drink in a pub with amazing service than in a cheap pub with miserable sods serving you! Top drawer olde worlde pub!

From the moment we entered the pub the barmaid was incredibly welcoming and chatty. Sometimes when you enter a pub as an obvious tourist there can be something of a stigma that your kind isn't suffered greatly. Not the case with The Three Tuns...forget a home away from home, we found a pub away from pub! We would happily drink here as often as we could if we lived closer to the area. Highly recommend this awesome place with their friendly staff and acoustic live music gems like Will Dreyfus. Look forward to the next time we're in the area 😁

Lovely old building on the outside and lots of character on the inside. We had grilled butterfly chicken burger with bacon, onion rings and nachos cheese sauce, chips and tomato relish. Wonderful food and the best crispy chips I've had in a long time. The only small criticism I have is about the tin it's served on. The baking parchment under the food tears when cutting and the tin slipped about a bit as well. Otherwise a great value pub for eating.

Popped in here in December 2021 and really enjoyed. Fantastic old world little pub with the staff friendly when I visited. Location wise just a few minutes walk from the Shambles, and not quite as heaving at the time I visited. Well worth checking out if you are ever near by or in York.

This pub looked really intriguing from the outside,one thing was it looked like it had been built by the Romans,it looked that old and secondly you see inside which adds to the mystique. Small original 'tavern' serving food. Limited natural light due to the age. Well worth a visit. Good selection of Ales which can also be bought in 1/3 pint glasses to aid taste testing. Friendly staff. Pepsi not Coke. I mention this as an American tourist made the point that Coke is preferred. Good food, catering for vegetarians too. Reasonably priced. Situated near Coppergate close to Jorvik centre. Live music nights are offered.

Meat was nice, mash and peas were microwaved something, and we had to use a lot of herbs (as salt and pepper to make a nice taste). Did not worth that price (£15). For a 1.5 half pint Moretti lager plus 2 stake meals we paid almost £38.

Went here for lunch and coffee as a group of 6. Waitress was really good and I couldn't fault her, food was lovely and service was quick. I would happily give it a 5 star rating however the owner/manager ruined this when he went on a power trip telling us to rearrange our seating. This in turn put us within an arms reach to another table with customers. Considering we're meant to be social distancing this is unacceptable and the manager needs to get over himself.

This was a real find, we actually went twice in one day. First we stopped for a drink on the way to our hotel, and later that evening we returned for an evening meal. We had the finest fish ‘n chips in York with superb ales and a bottle of good value wine to finish off. It’s really good value and best of all it’s a very cosy little place, perfect for a cold autumnal evening. The staff were jolly helpful too.

Fabulous pun in the Center of York. Absolutely packed and I have to say with a lovely door man which was a pleasure to see. We had our 15 year old daughter with us and it was 7.30pm on Saturday evening and it was a Filing festival so very busy, but we was wanting to warm through before walking to the train. The door man allowed us in if we was going to eat and he assured us he would keep an eye out on us especially as we had the young lady with us. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Doesn't look great from the outside but don't let that fool you. Once inside it's clean and very traditional, a lively atmosphere, friendly staff and locals and hosts a quiz on a weekday. Seems to get quite busy so get in early if you want a seat. Quite reasonable prices on drinks compared to some pubs in York.

Me and my husband have to the three tuns several times, it's good atmosphere, good food, and really old and quirky, however we went today and I didn't really enjoy It, we had food which was lovely, but we were sat near the kitchen and if you've never been in you won't know the layout, at the bottom end the kitchen is open to the bar, a guy in the kitchen must have been the cook, was never off his phone not once, he had music on really loud and it was over shadowing the music in the bar, he had no net on his bear and a ring in his nose! Slightly off putting, was ready to go soon as dinner was eaten.

Nice traditional pub in a busy part of York, getting a table on Saturday evening no probs, friendly staff and good service. My only fault was the horrible looking tumbler used to serve a nicer glass of port. Perhaps I am spoilt because I'm in the antique glass industry, but a port deserves a better glass that a tumbler which looks better with your false teeth or toothbrush in. Thanks anyway for a good experience.

Just back from York from Glasgow, spent a couple hours on Wednesday there in your pub and it was fantastic! got 'The Big One' burger which were out of this world and so much better than any burgers ive had here in Glasgow or in Scotland lol decided to come in yesterday too for a few hours for a few drinks and the atmosphere was nice and calming with good tunes. Will defos be coming back when im visiting again, oh and the guy with the snake bites and tattoo sleeve was defos a bonus, he's a hotty!
