Vanessa was always quick to respond to emails and queries and the flat was occupied for July and August, which was a huge relief and exactly what we’d hoped for. When Vanessa was away from the office Natalie stood in and again it was super to see how quickly she replied to my emails. We've been letting out our property with Rettie for the past 5 years and cannot recommend Rettie enough. We've had the same Rettie property manager (Iwona) over the period and she is highly competent, diligent and professional. The quality of service has been fantastic and she has a great friendly attitude. There have been a few minor issues with the property over the years and Rettie have dealt with them quickly and professionally, and they've also always managed to get new tenants quickly and at competitive rental rates. We've worked with other letting / property management agents before and it has been a nightmare; not the case with Rettie and it has been a pleasure working with them.

Having just spent a couple of days up in Edinburgh to facilitate a move up here, I thoroughly recommend Rettie's if you're looking for a rental. The team in the office were helpful both finding places and doing the admin for applications, in person and on the phone (while many other agencies I was lucky to even get through). The viewing agent was especially helpful, not just with practical info on the properties but on the local area(s), the city as a whole, the rental and sales markets and the application process. I was particularly impressed with the virtual viewing for a property I couldn't make it to. I thought it would be just a quick video of the inside but instead it was a live tour full of incredible detail of the property, it's recent history, the facilities, the area...she picked up on so many things I wouldn't have even thought to check, and then went through a Q&A at the end. If you're sceptical like I was, don't be. Thanks very much. Now all I have left to do is keep my fingers crossed for the applications!

I have a small rental property in the Scottish Borders and since I live in Edinburgh I use Rettie & Co. to manage it for me. They do everything, which saves me endless trouble. When I first started letting it out they assessed the flat to check that it met all the legal requirements and brought it up to code. They clean the flat between tenants, replace any broken appliances, make any necessary repairs, and interview prospective applicants - all while keeping me fully informed. There is a very reasonable percentage fee and anything that needs to be done is charged only at cost. I get regular statements and all invoices when work is required. They are always available, helpful, and courteous.

Rettie and Co are without a shadow of a doubt the most efficient and professional residential agency in Edinburgh. I have been both a lettings and sales client in recent months and could not fault the service I received on either account. Both teams surpassed our expectations and ultimately delivered more than they promised. The lettings team appears to have a far greater understanding of the need to respond in a prompt manner when issues arise compared to some of their peers in the market. In my experience any issues that developed were dealt with swiftly and effectively. We had a great experience with Rettie & Co. They were always there when we phoned and were consistently supportive, friendly and professional. With hindsight, all the signs were there. They are a big name, have a lot of staff to go with a lot of properties, and their website is terrific – easy to navigate, full of info, and with very good range of properties, each with a named contact. When you ring, you don’t have to listen to advertising spiel or start pressing numbers on your keypad – a human being picks up. On the website, if you click on the link to Our People, you notice that everyone is listed alphabetically – not the big guns first trailing down to the juniors. It’s a nice touch that suggests an unstuffy approach where it’s about working for the customer, the real number one. As we walked up to our appointment, there was our contact already waiting on the steps. The viewing was unrushed – just us, not a crowd of other interested parties – and when we left, we knew how to follow up, should we decide we were interested. At the end of the afternoon, we did go into one of the Rettie offices to confirm our interest, and they located our details immediately. A few days later, we had our moving-in date sorted. I’m pretty sure it would have been exactly the same experience had we declined that property and asked to see others. When I emailed the MD, Simon Rettie, to say thank heavens for a company that does what it says on the tin, he mailed back to thank me for writing and said that, in a crowded market, Rettie tries to stand out through the quality of its customer experience. It worked for us.

Moving to a new city is super hard especially when you don't know anything about the area (and every student is looking for accommodation and you can't find short term because the Fringe is happening). We would have been lost without Kirsty from Rettie and Co. We were trying to view apartments while travelling from Aberdeen (roughly three hours including bathroom stops) to view properties and finding a flat that was suitable and in a decent condition seemed impossible. Companies such as SouthSide would only allow you to apply for one place at a time and it could take up to 10 days to get confirmation (which was always a no). We were on our third trip down when we had decided to spend a couple of days in the area. We met Kirsty one day and she offered for us to basically follow her around the next day at any of the properties that suited our requirements. She gave us the times and street names so we could look them up and show up if we were interested. Within a day and a half we ended up seeing 5 more properties, with three of those being with Rettie. The difference between the other companies agents and Rettie was astounding. Kirsty knew the quirks of most of the properties and the surrounding areas, where as some of the other agents hardly seemed to know what day it was. By the weeks end we had a deposit sent through and the reference process underway. The best take away from the experience, in a city where the property market is so fast moving, is that Rettie and Co. treat you like an individual and will do their best to find a place that's right for you.
