From our introductory meeting with Countrywide’s sales manager Gavin, we knew that the sale of our property would be in reliable hands. He displayed an extensive knowledge of the local property market and always provided us with clear and concise information in a down to earth manner, which made us feel very much at ease. Gavin provided us with a very competitive market valuation and also helped to arrange for a Home Report to be carried out prior to our property going onto the market. From there, Kirstin and the sales team at the Byres Road branch took over the next phase of the sale. We found the sales team to be most helpful whenever we had any queries and we were always given advanced knowledge of any arranged viewings and provided with regular feedback. We were delighted to learn that a satisfactory bid had been received in what felt like a very short space of time, and the sale of our property was completed soon after. This is testament to the fine work carried out on our behalf by Countrywide. In summary, we were very pleased with the professional service provided by Countrywide and found their marketing fees, etc to be very straight forward and fair, with no hidden costs. We would have no hesitation in recommending Countrywide when selling a property.

Countrywide have managed my rental property for a number of years now. I decided to refurbish the property last year and received great advice from Mhairi who was able to support me with suggestions on the level of work required and the recommendation of a contractor to complete the work. Arrangements were made by Countrywide directly with the contractor for him to start work with funds held until works were complete and approved. Once the property was ready to go back on the market, a new tenant was found within the day! Recently, my tenants experienced an issue with flooding caused by a leak in the flat above. Countrywide were able to facilitate discussions with my tenant, the upstairs tenant and landlord along with the building factors and insurers. Scott was extremely helpful, keeping both myself and the tenant informed at regular intervals. He took ownership of the issue and resolved it, leaving the tenant satisfied - this is where you really see the value of an experienced professional letting agent. Sold our flat a few years ago. Very good service from Countrywide; friendly, good communication, reasonable fees. But they have a referral arrangement with a solicitor, McVey and Murricane, with whom we had a very bad experience (they were extremely slow, and it was very difficult to communicate with them... we had to employ a different solicitor in the end in order to conclude our sale in time). I now understand that McVey and Murricane have a poor reputation amongst solicitors in Glasgow and I was disappointed to discover that Countrywide are paid by McVey and Murricane for their recommendations. I think this is a real compromise by Countrywide, hence only 3 stars.

Key points from a recent purchase listed with Countrywide Westend from a buyer's perspective. International buyers beware. In my particular scenario I was a cash buyer however my funds were primarily in USD which I would convert to GBP upon determining an exact price of purchase. I was attracted to two properties listed by Countrywide, the first I believe was listed in 2019. I sought to make an offer below the listing price as (imo) the property required renovations before it was move in ready. The valuation presented to me in October 2020 was dated April 2019 and there appeared to be little maintenance of the property since the valuation. Negotiations were not entertained and there was disdain cast upon my funding. I left this interaction quite displeased and to-date the listing is still not-sold. To my dismay I discovered another property which met my needs criteria as a new listing under Countrywide. I faced a dilemma as the listing met my needs but I would have to interact with Countrywide again. I opted to prioritize need over emotion and requested a viewing of the property. After the viewing I presented my interest to the seller and asked his permission to enter into negotiations directly. After several counter-offers we were able to settle a price, he was paid in less than 3 weeks after the viewing and of course all legal requirements were adhered to. The seller was quite supportive and we maintain good relations after the sale. Countrywide acted only as a middle person through the entire process. I'll start with the good points, Countrywide has developed a good reputation within the region and through that they have an attractive range of listings. They were quick to book viewings and were quite keen to follow-up on same. Email responses weren't always accurate but all were responded to albeit with a few days lag. On the negative and in my humble opinion, they are more geared towards routine processing i.e. towards local (UK) buyers and don't wish to invest anytime to aid persons who might not be familiar with the specific Scottish system. I received much more pleasant and knowledgeable responses from other agents. The Scottish system is a bit different from the British system for which I am more familiar. To potential sellers please bare my feedback in mind, you might be limiting your potential buyer pool by trusting your listing with Countrywide. This limitation in my opinion is not out of due-diligence and your protection but due to a lack of effort on their part. Perhaps my expectations were marred by other agents or perhaps business is very good for Countrywide and there is a more financial reward to pick fruit from low-hanging branches. The matter is done and I hope this helps another buyer in some way. C'est la vie

Currently have my property managed by the girls at Countrywide Lettings and they have been nothing short of great!
