Reviews of Travancore Restaurant Aberdeen

Such a different experience to other Indian restaurants regarding the menu and flavours. The food was delicious and the staff were excellent and all around us were empty plates and happy customers. Would 100% return and recommend.

My colleague Linda and I came here yesterday to taste some dishes before Linda's retirement lunch in March. Every dish we tried just wowed us. From the chicken to the lamb to the prawns. Gorgeous. The chicken biryani was tasty and tge breads were a lovely change to a naan. A lot lighter but atill as tasty. Then I had the pistachio Kulfi and Linda had a coffee. My god the Kulfi was just Gorgeous. We can't wait to go back. We would recommend this place very highly. Yes rhe menu is different but so worth trying it. The staff are lovely and very helpful. Try this place, you won't regret it. 10 out of 10. Thankyou from Louise and Linda

Delicious meal. Poori & breads were fantastic. Really authentic food with obvious care put into every meal. An array of exciting things on the menu and excellent service in the restaurant. Very well priced too.

This is so far the best Indian restaurant I have experienced in Aberdeen. We did not book any table and it was a walk in we did yesterday, however the place was already running 50 percent of its capacity and we managed to get a table for four without any issues. Interior decor is newly done and the food took a bit longer than expected. I must admit the flavours we experienced were so authentic and I appreciate the team make a bold move of introducing this new Kerala flavour to Aberdeen. Quantities were good and food tasted really fresh.
Their SEAFOOD PLATTER is a MUST TRY!
I really wished they served some beer or spirits. I was just browned by the manager that spirits will be served from December 2021.
I highly recommend this place and would love to return to enjoy new flavours of Kerala.
Well done chef Jinson and team, keep up the good work.

Whether it’s dine in or delivery the food never disappoints. Our favourite is Prawn Neeruli with appams - which you won’t get in any restaurant in Aberdeen. #Recommend

Absolutely delicious and enjoyed meal with my friend will definitely back soon.. .Beautiful atmosphere, very near ,clean and excellent service from team. Thankyou. Best curry award restaurant 2022 . .

Incredible Dosa. I was staying about 1 hour away from the city and found this little gem. The Dosa was massive, possibly the biggest I’ve had. The masala filling was also super tasty. We had a selection of a few things and it was all 5 star quality.
A must cost if your are in or around Aberdeen.

If you’re searching for authentic Kerala cuisine in Aberdeen, then Travancore is the place to visit. This restaurant focuses solely on Kerala cuisine and if you want a whiff of your past travels to Kerala, this is a must visit place. The seafood platter has always been our constant go to starter. For £8.99, this dish is a steal. We ordered the Chicken Kurumulagu Curry with appam and parotta. Personally, I would’ve preferred my curry to be a bit more spicy, but it would be spicy enough for a local.

Probably the best Indian meal I've had in Aberdeen. Couldn't decide what to get as the menu is excellent so decided on the non veg Thali and it was fantastic. You get the seafood soup as a starter with it which I didn't expect as it doesn't mention it on the menu, it was amazing absolutely packed full of flavour. The thali itself is huge comfortably big enough to feed 2 people all the curries were excellent and completely different to the majority of the generic Indian restaurants around Aberdeen. The flavours are South Indian so plenty of fish options and lots of dosas to choose from. The service was good and the prices were fair unfortunately they didn't have their alcohol licence yet but they encouraged me to pop out to tesco and bring a beer in. Will definitely be back here when in the area to work through the rest of the menu

I cannot start to say how amazing this place is. We were on vacation to Scotland, made our way to Aberdeen and the first thing we did is go here and eat. We were regulars of this place before we moved out of Aberdeen. Have been living in multiple countries and I can assure that if you are wanting to taste the food from south of India, esp. Kerala, this is the only best choice. Not every place serves the authentic tastes, but Travancore undoubtedly does.
We never fail to order Seafood platter for starters. The aroma and the taste says that the the food is made in coconut oil, which makes Kerala cuisine authentic.
For mains, we ordered egg Appam and Porotta. Majority of the Indian places serve frozen Porotta. We got to speak to the head chef and he mentioned that they have a chef particularly specialised in making fresh Porottas. Appam is what they have on their menu, but if you ask for Egg Appam, they will get that for you.
The ambience, the staff and their service- perfect.
The best part about the visit this time was that the chef remembered us by face despite not having visited the restaurant for almost 10 months. He even remembered the starters we love! Familiarity counts, indeed.
P. S.
I have visited Travancore twice. The first time was with my work colleauges. I loved it so much that I decided to go with my family for a dinner. I had a fantastic experience on both the occassions. The menu is different from the usual curry houses, as it is authentic from Kerala, a southern Indian state.
All the dishes are delicious and the service is brilliant. I would recommend a thali, but make sure you have good appetite :)

Search for good Dosa and Sambhar in Aberdeen ends here!
We had Vada-Sambhar, Masala Dosa and Mango Kulfi (ice-cream) and it tasted very similar to what you will get at a good South Indian (Kerala) restaurant back in India. The prices are very reasonable as well.
It's a newly opened place but was completely packed on Saturday eve when we visited, will recommend making a reservation if you plan on visiting on weekends. They were probably not expecting a full house and hence there was some delay in getting the food to the table, but the hosts are really graceful and they came to apologise to us for the delay and also offered complementary dessert. They have options of sit-in and takeaway at the moment and no delivery, but the place is definitely worth the visit.
We plan on going back soon to try Malabar Chicken and South Indian Thali. Overall really enjoyed our dinner and will highly recommended the place to anyone looking for good South Indian food.
D. C.
Superb food and good ambience. Must try are Nadan Beef fry, Kerala Porotta and Chicken Dosa. Trust me, this place will never disappoint you! Will come back!

Authentic Kerala ( South India ) food in Aberdeen. I am originally from Kerala, so can vouch for it. Fantastic food, cosy atmosphere, We all loved it.
T. W.
Very tasty Kerlan cuisine served by friendly staff with kingfisher on tap. Flavours a bit different from the North Indian dishes and they have plenty of seafood options.
S. W.
Fantastic food and service. This is "PROPER Kerala" cuisine I've tasted anywhere than Kerala. The flavours are fantastic and I really enjoyed with my friends. We tasted a lot of dishes and it just took us back to Southern India. The fresh flavours of curry leaves, the creamy coconut just does justice to a lot of dishes. There is no restaurant in 200 mile radius who can cook this kind of food, period!!
If you are in Aberdeen please give this restaurant a try
T. N.
Went with my boyfriend and we had a fantastic Saturday night dinner! Ordered 3 main courses, one rice and the rice pancakes, we finished everything! Loved all the seafood curries and the staff are super friendly. Service was good and excellent experience overall. I highly reccommend Travancore!
S. M.
A fantastic addition to Aberdeen's restaurant scene, Travancore serves authentic South Indian food with a wide variety of options to choose from. There's lots of veggie and pescatarian as well as meat dishes, plus their dosas are incredible. The staff are so kind and will give advice if (like me,) you're getting carried away and need help with what to order!
J. P.
Positively wonderful place for an Indian meal! Just back in from our meal here and we both can't praise the place highly enough. We took advantage of their itison deal and I have to start here. Often you feel when you are in some places with a voucher that you are a second class citizen, this couldnt have been further from the truth at Travancore. We were made to feel so welcome and even given the second helping of bread and the deserts we ordered as compliments, despite us querying these when it came to paying bill. All of the food was absolutely delicious whilst being different from your standard Indian menu. Felt very authentic. Staff were super friendly and helped out explaining the dishes and making suggestions. Decor is nice, loved the background music too. Just top notch across the board. Would highly recommend giving this place a chance. We will definitely return!
C. W.
This place is an absolute gem.
We were only in Aberdeen for one night and so happy we found this place. Fabulous Masala Dosa, but the star of the show was the Aubergine Curry finished with cashew nut paste. So delicious. And the lemon rice is also amazing.
Staff so helpful in identifying vegan options and then even introducing us to the chef who talked us through some of his tricks.
Highly recommended.
K. V.
Second time I’ve eaten here and just as good as the first time. The food is really great and very different from other Indian restaurants. Unique flavours beautifully cooked.
Thoroughly recommend.
V. R. K.
Friendly staff. Best in Aberdeen for Indian dishes, especially Kerala food.
N. L.
We have been looking forward to trying this restaurant for a long time and are so pleased it lived up to our high expectations. We ordered the fish fry starter, the meen pollichathu, and the kappa meen curry and all had deep, nuanced spices that really lifted the natural flavours of the fish. The appam -- recommended by our very friendly and helpful server -- had a fantastic texture, crispy on the edges and soft in the middle, with a pleasant sour flavour. The lemon rice was so good it could have been eaten as a main dish, but as an accompaniment to the fish curries it was perfect. As for drinks, the triveni is an amazing triple-layered 'mocktail' with blended kiwi on the bottom, mango in the middle, and strawberry on top, while the salted lassi goes perfectly with the spices. We were too full to have a sweet, but we will return to try them in future! It's a fantastic restaurant, and such a great addition for Aberdeen. As a bonus, we were very pleased to find that this restaurant stays open late -- perfect for after a show in the evening. Wonderful service and cooking!

Went to Travancore for the first time today for early supper. As a coeliac I was delighted to be able to have the dosa, most curries and breads made from rice/lentils. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the new/different flavours from Kerala. Thoroughly recommend restaurant for a new taste experience. Also appreciated the chat with lovely waitress and chef who came out to talk with us.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Tranvancore and I'm so glad I did! The food was absolutely delicious - it was authentic Kerala cuisine and it was so fresh and tasty, it felt like I was eating at home. Highly recommend this place!

First visit to Travancore and my first Chicken Dosa in about 5 years! Huge portion, tasted amazing and extremely good value. Will start working my way through the menu over the next few months. Mamta who served me was so friendly and helpful offered a few recommendations to try out. 100 % will be back again
S. S.
Food is good and we enjoy. Yet slowly the portion is going down on quantity or least it varies each week. Also the girl at reception despite serving you if a British customer walks in she will literally drop you aside and run to them no matter you’ve already been in first and being served. Seems very rude even one occasion the customer she ran by dropping us said you weee serving them already and also apologised to myself have been finished serving. We spend quite a lot every week and from first time until now one thing she have developed is to ignore.
Food quality is very good and this is note to chef or management quantity should be same every time a customer orders
S. H.
✨The food tasted incredible
✨Staff were super careful about allergies and catered to our needs by adapting dishes to exclude nuts
✨The Dosa was huge! I’m talking the full size of the table
✨Sanjo (our server) was very knowledgable about the menu and recommend dishes he thought we would like
✨The chef came to talk to our table at the end of the meal to chat, which was a really nice touch
✨They have menu items that aren’t available anywhere else in Aberdeen
✨Curry awards winner 2022

Very tasty, creamy. I had the chicken curry. Told the waiter i had allergy she gave special care to make sure ingredients wont cause me health problem
J. d.
The service was a little rude. I felt that more could have been offered in terms of feeling welcomed rather, i left feeling quite offended. I asked questions about the yogurt drinks but the person was quite clueless. That would have been fine if she just said she didnt know but she seemed pretty annoyed at my questions. When getting the actual drinks they were warm but i was told they would be cold or chilled. The food was sweet. I was told that this Indian cuisine did not have any spicy foods which to me is like saying the Chinese do not our MSG in their food. Absolute nonsense. Nevertheless it was still edible and I have recieved worse service from other places so I give this place 3 stars ⭐️🌟💫
S. H.
Passed by Travancore to get some dinner on my wat home from work and oh my goodness. I had malabar chicken Curry and appam. Very delicious. All flavours sublime and mixed well together.
But if you’ve never tried appam , please try it’. It’s rare to find an Indian Restaurant actually selling appam q so do yourself s favour and try it. I’ll definitely be back !!
B. I.
Amazing food and wonderful service. We’ll be back for sure :)
J. M.
Brill food beautifully served. We'll be back.
been back a few times now. Aberdeen is very fortunate to have a lot of great Indoan restaurants and this is one of the best. Everything we have tried has been delicious. There are always other indoan people eating there when weve been in which I always think is a good sign. great staff too

We visited Travancore again on our latest trip to Aberdeen and again we were not disappointed. We make this our go to restaurant on every visit to the city. The food is amazing and so different from other Indian cuisine. The staff are so nice and very helpful. The restaurant itself is lovely with a very relaxed atmosphere. Can't wait for our next visit.
D. H.
What a great addition to the Aberdeen food scene. Absolutely delicious South Indian food, with charming service at very reasonable prices. We've been twice already, and everything we ordered was beautifully flavoured and spiced. This is a restaurant that really deserves to succeed, and I highly recommend you give it a try.

There is no excuses to tell the taste of 'Meen Pollichathu'. If you are visiting this shop, you must try that, it's rapped and cooked on Banana leaves, which gives am amazing taste.
K. V.
I was surprised to find such an authentic 'Kerala' food restaurant in Aberdeen. Seafood plater, Veg Briyani and Masala dosa were all delicious. Small independent restaurant with great ambiance and excellent service. Truly enjoyed our dinning experience.
S. K.
We went for dinner on 22nd June and the dinner was delicious. The choice of menu was quite wide and the flavour and spices were very smooth. The ambience was very good and the staff were polite and courteous. Will definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone who is travelling to Aberdeen
Y. A.
Amazing food with lots of flavour, good portions for big eaters like myself and very friendly service. Would be happy to return here.
V. M.
Surprised by the taste and presentation of the food. Little gem of a place if you want some authentic south Indian food.
K. P.
I am a fan of Indian food, but this was the first visit to Travancore in Aberdeen. Advertised as serving south Indian cuisine I and my two colleagues expected a slightly different menu and we were not disappointed. Rather than just an offering of popadums, our "premeal Snacks and Pickles" were a small basket with a generous selection that inclded popadums, achappam, banana chips and pappadavada with three accompanying dips. All were delicious and we were glad we ordeed two portions. The Masala dosa was crisp and freshly made and the potato was fluffy and tasty. We all ordered different main courses - Malabar chicken, Nadan chicken and the Kurulumugu chicken. All had their own unique flavours which we agreed had a passing similarity to Thai curries. It speaks for itself that not a drop was left on any plate. As sides we had basmati rice, chapattis, puri and Kerala Parotta.
The meal was very different from other restaurants in Aberdeen and the flavours were fantastic. The staff were very attentive and were glad to explain and describe the various dishes for us. The price was good to (for Aberdeen) - all the above and a couple of rounds of drinks worked out at about £85.
It is nice to see a new Indian cuisine restaurant open and we wish them every success - they deserve it.
We all agreed that whilst this was the first, it would not be our last visit to Travancore. Thorougly recommended.

Indian food from Kerala, so not the usual stuff. Lovely tasty food at reasonable prices. Make this the next Indian restaurant you visit
M. P.
Amazing service, great tasting food and a beautiful location in Aberdeen City Centre. Will be a returning customer! :)
R. S.
Food was absolutely amazing. One of the best Indian restaurants in Aberdeen.
Y. M.
The best restaurant in Aberdeen. Ambiance and interior is very good . Neatness is also good. Staffs are friendly.
H. I.
My husband and I love Indian food and we've been to a few but for me the food that I had here tonight was the best I had in a very long time. I don't normally do reviews but I felt the need to do one because I wanted others to come and visit this restaurant too because the food was so good. I advise you to have a meal at this restaurant. You're in for a great surprise!
G. S.
Delicious food. So tasty and full of flavour. Great service. Definitely worth a visit if you like Indian food but want to try something a bit different. Can't wait to go back. 10/10

If you want to taste South Indian traditional foods, I strongly don’t miss to try this popular genuine Indian restaurant in Aberdeen! I strongly recommended to sit-in and enjoy very friendly environment and polite staffs who professionally serve you and meet your demands! Don’t miss this Indian restaurant this is the best Indian restaurant in Aberdeen….

Wonderful food and service.
Went on Saturday for dinner and had the fried aubergines in batter, the lamb and spinach curry, Coconut rice and parotas amazing. Excellent friendly service and nothing was too much trouble. Can't wait to come back soon.
E. N.
Been twice now and have tried 4 different dishes. The food is consistently delicious. The prawn malai is particularly good. Super rich in flavour. Look forward to exploring the rest of the menu. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Aberdeen got lucky with this place.
J. C.
Had takeaway here about 6 mths ago and it was great; ate in the restaurant today, and it was even better. Delightful staff (waitress, chef came out to see us after the meal). All south-Indian food - none of your generic curry house stuff here. Parathas, enormous paper-thin dosas, several other bread / pancake things to mop up delicious but distinctly-flavoured curries. Cold cobra and Kingfisher on tap. Got busier through the evening. I'd recommend this as one of the best places to go in Aberdeen. Excellent value too - worked out at about £20 a head including drinks, and we were stuffed....
S. M. (.
Best new curry house in the city! We were treated so well by the staff and even had a visit to the table by the head chef. The food is amazing and has more of an authentic feel than most Indian restaurants, shying away from the more westernised options but still catering for all tastes. I cannot wait to go back. We visited as a group but would gladly return with my partner. Staff and food 5 stars!
C. S.
A great new Indian restaurant in Aberdeen. Starter, main, and dessert we'rewall delicious, it is especially refreshing to a have reduced menu to choose from. It is evident that the food is prepared by the chef with care and passion to ensure every dish is the best it can be. The waiting staff were extremely polite and hospitable. The head chef and owner happily engaged with us after the meal and discussed the heritage of these dishes. We will definitely be coming back soon to a friendly atmosphere with excellent cuisine.
N. I.
Amazing food! Only restaurant serving authentic Keralean cuisine from India. I bet you wouldn't have tasted food like this in Aberdeen before. Friendly staff and great service. Must try!
R. M.
What a treat! What a gem of a place. This deserves a 10/10 for the food and service. South Indian cuisine at its top best. I sincerely hope they keep the quality, taste and spice intact and not alter it for the western palate.
We went for the Nadan Chicken Dry Roast, Appams, Kovalam Squids, Beef Roast and Travancore Lamb Curry. Going there again to try the Biryani next.
I'd suggest the staff to also keep local known beers, Whiskey. No one wants to drink a Kingfisher!!
A. G.
Delicious food! True Indian taste. Good portion size.
S. C.
Just excellent - food to make you smile and really friendly, helpful service. I went with the staff recommendation of meen pollichathu, lemon rice and the appam bread/pancake and it was all fantastic, especially the appam. My only regret was not being able to try more, but I will be back.
Y. A.
Lovely staff and great food. The rice dessert was amazing. Thank you!

Absolutely brilliant food. It is just so delicious and makes you miss home! We tried the malabar chicken curry, Kerala parotta, appam and fish fry and payasam. Everything was just amazing. Absolutely Amazing!!! Unique flavours, staff were so lovely! You are guaranteed a lovely meal with lovely staff. My partner and I were there tonight and had an amazing experience! x

Travancore is a great restaurant. We had a number of starters including the fried aubergine, a dosa, then prawn and chicken curries. Unique style. Best Indian restaurant in Aberdeen in my opinion
H. P.
Amazing, authentic Kerala food! Transported us right back to a wonderful holiday in Kerala! Super friendly staff, and lovely to see the chef come out and chat afterwards. Highly recommend the Vedu, masala dosa and prawn curry.
L. S. B.
Delicious food. Friendly staff. Excellent service.

Just had a takeaway from Travancore. This is by far one of the best curries I have eaten. The flavours and spices were fantastic. Staff were very friendly and polite. Nice generous portions of food also.
Will definitely be going back here and recommending to friends
J. G.
This place is amazing. Unique and delicious food with good portion. Best place to dine with family and friends. Staffs are also too good. Kudos to the management.

Absolutely amazing! The place is beautiful and staff are friendly and the food is super delicious. We really enjoyed 3 courses of meal along with fine glass of wine😊😊. We are definitely going back. And also highly recommend for this place❤️❤️❤️

Great food best curry in Aberdeen. True authentic dishes from southern India. Don’t expect to see the usual menu items other Indian restaurants have.
P. R.
All was excellent, the frindly and attentive service, the authentic food, even the wine list. Keep going guys and don't change a thing! Will be back soon... And I did! And it's still excellent...
N. M.
We went to Travancore for a meal. The ambience is fresh and nice. The service was attentive and the food was outstanding. This is the place for food enthusiasts of Aberdeen who want to taste something different from the normal curries available. Every dish was beautifully presented and taste was finger licking . I recommend this restaurant highly.
N. B.
Very tasty authentic South Indian food!! Veg Thali which was heavenly..
service was quick, and staff was very friendly. We will be coming for more
S. E.
What a fabulous place Travancore is and one that if the owners keep it the way it is now - as in very authentic, personal and importantly to a manageable scale - it will be a real attribute to the restaurant scene in Aberdeen.
We enjoyed the Kovalam Squid as an appetiser, a fantastic portion easily big enough for two and I followed this with an amazing lamb black pepper fry, accompanied with spicy potato and plain white basmati rice, with my dining companion ordering the excellent non veg Thali, which includes a mussel soup starter and a Saemiya Payasam dessert.
The staff were wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable and super efficient and it was lovely to have the chef visit our table during the meal, to introduce himself and talk to us. The Dosas being served to the adjoining table had me planning ahead for my next visit!
All in all this is a true 5 Star review and as an added bonus apart from the fact that it’s genuine South Indian cuisine of the highest standard and excellent value, it’s also BYOB so you don’t end up doubling your bill with beer and wine. The Tesco next door must be doing a roaring trade….

Yesterday my grandson and I had the great pleasure of eating at the newly opened South Indian restaurant, Travancore. It is situated on the premises of the first Indian restaurant in Aberdeen, the Aasia Kathon, which opened in 1968. Over the years it has had various incarnations, firstly as the Taj Mahal, then as the Mumtaz, and finally as the Blue Moon. I have greatly enjoyed eating curries at all of these restaurants, but what we had yesterday surpassed even the finest ones I have had over more than 40 years. The ambience of the new restaurant is superb, with beautiful decor, while all of the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. The variety of the menu is fantastic, containing so many dishes which are completely new to Aberdeen. The pre-meal snacks and pickles were delightful, with the best chutneys I have ever tasted. I followed this with the delicious Drumstick Soup, made with the health-giving Moringa plant. My main course consisted of the excellent Neerulli Prawn Masala, with perfectly cooked tiger prawns covered with a flavourful sauce, accompanied by a very suitable type of bread previously unknown to me. My grandson has a great love of curries, and totally agreed with my judgment on the superb quality of the food. I will certainly be back to the Travancore very soon, and thoroughly recommend that you do the same, you will certainly not be disappointed!

Ordered Beef Ularthiyathu, Meen Pollichathu, and Fish Curry. Loved every dish. Awesome customer service. Every Malayali should try this place at least once. It was worth it. Highly recommended restaurant.
J. K.
Last night I had dinner in this new restaurant, food and service was good. Will recommend it and will like to go again.
Although the staff looks a bit amateur as the lady (Asian, short hairs) who took our order insisted that we should not order multiple items and should share(eventually we had too).
It looks like they didn't want there owner to earn money 💰💰.
k. k.
Amazing food and fantastic service! It was a last minute order and the owner accepted the order, got the everything ready as soon as possible. Highly recommend!!!
B. A.
Absolutely fantastic south Indian food at a very fair price.
E. M.
Best Indian dinner I've had in my life!! Absolutely everything was delicious, everyone was lovely and so cheap as well. Wish you all the best guys! Thank you for an amazing dinner! :)
H. G.
Amazing food with the most exquisite flavours. Made fresh and very flavourful. Really reminded me of back home in Kerala. Waiter was also very friendly. Would 100% recommend.

Pros: Great food. Good Ambiance. Friendly service. High chairs available. Clean toilets.
Cons: Restaurant floor not wide enough.
B. T.
I went with my family for a night at Travancore. The experience was wonderful and I'm sure all of us had a great time. For our starter, we had some Uzhunnu Vadas, the Lamb Coconut Fry and Chilli Paneer, a superb dish bursting with flavour - my favourite of the night. For our main course, we had Parotta with two delicious sides: the Travancore Lamb Curry and the Alappuzha Konju Masala, a stunning prawn curry which I will be sure to try again. Lastly, for dessert, my siblings and I had an array of ice-creams; I had a Pistachio Kulfi, a dessert so tasty I can still vividly remember the taste of. During our visit, all the staff were both kind and helpful. To top it all off, the chef himself, the man behind the authentic Kerala taste, visited us, the perfect way to end of the night. All in all, the night and the food was sublime; would definitely recommend!
