Dropped by here for lunch whilst visiting my sister and her small baby. We were welcomed and advised although they had no tables we were welcome to wait and order drinks while we waited for a table. The wait wasn't horrendous and was certainly helped by the drinks that arrived quickly! The food service was very good considering the place was full up, and all our dishes were hot and fresh and delicious. I'll definitely come back here again on my next trip up to Aber!

This is a hard review to write because the Athro Lounge is one of my favourite places in Aberystwyth. The whole concept is great, nice surroundings, good menu, good choice of beers and wine and order at table, what could be better? Well there is a problem and it is inconsistency of food quality and portion control. I have a favourite meal and when it is right it is very good, trouble is the next time you order it is different, either not tasting the same or the portion is much smaller. This is not good enough I pay the same each time and am entitled to the same quality and amount every time. This came to a head last Sunday when we called in for tea and a snack. My wife ordered chips with melted cheese but the meal was inedible. The cheese was not melted and the fries had been fried a number of times and were hard and hollow and greasy so bad I took it back. The waiter said sorry (not his fault) but no refund was offered. I have noticed that on the app there is now an option to leave a tip. This is a strange idea to expect a tip before you get the meal but it might work if you knew you were going to get top quality each time. As it is there is no chance that I will tip until the meal arrives.

Came here for the Tapas Tuesday deal 3 tapas and a glass of wine for £11.99. Came here at 5.15 when the deal started. Got a seat quickly. I also got an extra portion of bread to eat the hummus as there was quite a bit of it with the bread that came with it. The food was well cooked and decent portions. The white wine was lovely and cold. You either order from your phone from the menu or at the bar. Would recommend. You can eat outside but i wouldn't recommend as there is no protection from the seagulls.

One of my favourite restaurants in Aber recently! Great variety of food, plenty of promotions and reasonable prices. Long opening hours are also a big plus for me! They did really good even on the Valentine's Day when it was extra busy. Really recommend this one!

Went here with friends for lunch and it was very good. We hadn't been there before as it is fairly new but it had a great menu and the quality of food was very good. I had the Beef Brisket Burger which was a very good burger juicy and the toppings were good especially the chilli jam. The sharing tapas was good as well crispy squid, whipped feta with honey and ciabatta, and buttermilk chicken. Decent drinks menu with reasonable prices. The only slight criticism was the staff could have been a little more attentive tables outside had the seagulls at them and some food arrived before drinks but otherwise definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely stunning food 😍 delicious and very affordable prices. We've ordered the majority of the Tapas menu and it was stunning . Really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. Athro is right by the train and bus station which means you can eat before you start your journey or even after your journey. Not to mention you can grab a taxi back home right outside after a good meal and few drinks. Staff is very polite and nothing is ever too much. Credit to Aberystwyth town 👌

This is a huge establishment that looks like it used to be an old school or church. The decor is very unusual with deep purple floral wallpaper contrasted with a multitude of paintings and overhanging lamp shades. When I looked at the menu I had my doubts thinking the food would be average and generic. I was stunned how quickly the drinks and food came out. We ordered the long Island spiced tea and an assortment of tapas. The food was surprisingly good, especially the quasedilla and the corn fritters with chilli jam. Would definitely come here again!

Been here a few times and have had mixed experiences however last night wasn’t up to usual standards. Burnt food all around, slow service (waited an hour just for 3 small tapas) if they warned of the wait it would’ve been more forgivable. Prices aren’t cheap so you’d expect better standards. No one asked how our food was and just generally felt off. However I’ve been before where staff have been at tentative and super helpful so I guess it depends who’s on. Beautiful venue and lovely decor though it’s just a shame the food and service is hit and miss.

Really helpful, great choice of food for myself and my partner, awesome and polite folk all around. Great choice of drinks too. Accessible toilet as well which is nice but maybe the signage could use some work (that's head office's issue not Athro Lounge itself. Was simply a note) I'd recommend this place to anyone. Great decor and atmosphere too with photos and paintings that relate to the building. 11/10

Eaten here twice whilst on holiday in Aberystwyth. Food is absolutely incredible and service is fast and friendly would give 6 stars if I could. Ultimate chicken burger was moist and delicious and steak was very tender. Puddings are great and so are the milkshakes. If we are ever in the area will definitely be back. Highly recommended

I thought this place was fantastic. Great food, reasonably priced with quick and polite service, what more could you ask for. If I had to be really picky I would say the Calamari tapas having the sauce on the side of the bowl meant it was dripping out when it arrived. Also, the app needs updating as it doesn't automatically take the price off when you order 3 tapas. Truth be told these were minor criticisms, and this was a perfect place to celebrate my mates 20 birthday. Strongly recommend to anyone in Aberystwyth.

I've been meaning to try a lounger restaurant and glad we did. You order off your phone by scanning a bar code which makes it easier, you can order at the bar if you perfer. The food came out pretty quick, I had a longer bacon burger and it was really good. All 4 meals was really good, we had 3 cakes too and was all really nice and fresh. The brownie was one of the best I've had. The staff are really friendly and do a good job.

Fantastic visit recently during a trip to Aber for graduation ceremonies. Great new discovery for breakfast/brunch. Wonderful warm welcome from the staff, it was quiet, so easy to pick a nice table. We booked a Christmas meal last minute and all staff at Athro was lovely from the initial phone call till us leaving the premises. Wonderful and caring attitude throughout the whole process, were very patient and explained the menu to us. Were very accomodating tonight during our meal and kept checking on us. OK....this is a really mixed review. So, where to start? The staff were lovely. It's a dog friendly place. Unfortunately, that's pretty much where the good stuff ends. We ordered our drinks and food. Had our cutlery given to us...which we both cleaned ourselves as it didn't look that great...had another drink cos after about 40 minutes our burgers still weren't ready!! Lunch eventually arrived...luke warm over cooked chips...and a mediocre warm burger. ( which was a shame cos the burger actually tasted fantastic) As for the coleslaw....oh my days...it was just dry old salad leaves thrown on!!! Which obviously I declined to even touch. Did we complain or leave the meal? No....as we were both ravenous by then. Would I visit again? Sadly no

Nice atmosphere/interior design keeping to the Old Welsh Primary School history. Service was very slow when we had Christmas dinner with work here and had to wait over an hour and a quarter for my mains, I was given a complimentary glass of wine which was appreciated but when the pork belly came it was more like pork belly slices that you'd buy from Tesco rather of a restaurant quality and was very tough with no steak knife given. The portion size of the food and vegetables were also a bit on the small side and was a bit crammed in for space.

The drinks were great, I enjoyed the virgin juice cocktail I had (mango colada? Name evades me now!) my children had chocolate milkshakes and they were gone in seconds so clearly good too 😂

There was a long wait however that's down to this being new and people wanting to try it out. I would highly recommend a booking system. Currently they do not take bookings. It would be nice to go out without having to queue for 30 mins and be safe in the knowledge that you will get a table here. At the moment because of the pandemic most places are booked up so it really is a risk showing up here not knowing if you will get a table or not. I'm hoping in the future this will change. Aberystwyth really is upping it's game when it's comes to eating out. I'm gluten intolerant and there is a large gluten free menu, they also label the gf food so no mix ups happen which could be catastrophic and could really make someone very unwell. They also served gf bread on the side which almost never happens at restaurants so I was over the moon with that little touch. Kudos to athro lounge again! It's worth noting they have a vegan menu too. They're very inclusive. The food is lovely. They have a tapas menu and you can choose 3 dishes and a glass of wine for £12. They have main dishes too if you're ravenous. The prices are very fair. The decor is marvellous. This was an old school and its nice to see they have tried to keep that vibe with their modern decor and add that history. Another thing I love is they have a large collection of real plants. There is nothing worse than seeing plastic plants . Not only were the plants real but they were labelled too. Please check it out. I'm returning in a few days and the friend that I went with has already returned with her husband. Good on your guys and please keep it up. And please don't reduce that amazing gluten free menu!

We eat here once every couple of months. Really good service and staff are always nice. Too much of the menu has chilli in for me (I’m intolerant), so there’s only a few basic dishes I can have. They do a good range of tapas on the menu, it looks nice but I can’t speak to what most of it tastes like, sadly (chilli!). The range of desserts is good, lots of different cakes too. Don’t expect branded soft drinks though, which is annoying for my Autistic son. Good disabled bathroom.

Best place in town for celiacs! The GF menu is huge and they take so much care to make sure everything is safe. The GF food even comes out labeled so you know which is which and no mixups. There’s even a dedicated fryer so you can have chips and fried chicken. Nice atmosphere and the food is excellent.

I'm a big fan of the Lounge chain, but was a little disappointed here. Food was fine but a lot of menu choices were had run out when we arrived (Sunday lunch time) which suggests insufficient ordering. Service was good and friendly, though.

Really cool and funky place! Decent amount of space between tables. Staff were super friendly and very helpful. Food was excellent, the cheese burger was exceptional. They definitely use high quality produce and know how to cook it! A clever menu that focuses on a few main ingredients but used in lots of ways to give an extensive choice. Tables could donwith being cleared a bit quicker. Well worth a visit, we had a fab time!

This is a great addition to the town (I'm not sure how long it's been there but it definitely wasn't here when I was a student, anyway). Genuinely surprised at how much space there is inside and they've done a beautiful job of showcasing the original features of the building. Food was very good, quick and everything done in a way that felt COVID safe. We ordered via the app which is accessed from a QR code at the table, but you can order at the bar too. Staff super helpful and friendly. We'll definitely be back next time we're up.

Conveniently located in the middle of town this place is pretty good for a chain food stop. I like it because they have a seperate dedicated menu for folk who are vegetarian meaning you don't have to hunt about for tiny symbols. Staff are a bit too in your face happy at times. Absolutely wonderful! With a son who has Coeliac Disease, eating out can be a challenge at times for our family. Our food at Athro Lounge yesterday was absolutely delicious. The fact our boy had his own menu and a huge selection to choose from was just brilliant. We are looking forward to returning soon.

Beautiful place right next to Aberystwyth Rail, astonishing interior, very friendly and helpful staff. There was a little bit of waiting time for a table but this is expectable. Place is dog friendly so our dog-friend received a bowl of water straight away! You order via a website, pay online which we loved, makes things much simpler for a group of 5 paying separately. Unfortunately we have waited for food for an hour, and nearly finished our drinks by that time. Food was beautifully presented and very tasty. Prices are very good too. We have never got our desserts, even though we asked twice about them, we have decided to ask for a refund and leave as by that time we have waited 20 minutes for them.

Have been here a few times now, both morning and afternoon, for breakfasts and lunches. Lovely decor, very clean, efficient and most of all for us - dog friendly!! The food is lovely, the service is in good time and you can order via the table app or go to the bar which works well for us oldies who are less technically adept! Staff can't do enough for you. One of our favourite places to go for food in Aber - only downside is no real/cask ales but that's a small price to pay. 😊

Really nice setting in an old Church/Chapel. The setting and atmosphere are really comfy, the service and food are good. Suffers from the current obsession of putting the fries in a small metal bucket. Why do people do that? Other than that it was a great experience. Priced about right for the food on offer which is excellent. I would go again.

We were given a great table and we were really pleased with the easy access for one of our party in a wheelchair. Good food, delivered quickly and politely. Music was quite loud at first but staff happily and immediately turned it down when we asked. Only downside was that no-one came to clear the table after the mains, which made it difficult when dessert and coffees arrived.... And still no-one didn't took away the dirty plates, just squeezed everything on! Apart from that oversight though, we all thought it was great 👍

Part of the 'Lounge' chain that I have visited often in Birmingham; this one is super busy as they don't have many similar venues in Aberystweth. Food menu was varied but just not amazing in execution - I don't want to criticise as they did a great job and were clearly very busy on a Tuesday half term but staff were friendly and a beautiful location - I would still recommend as GF menu is extensive and a great place for brunch.

Popped in for breakfast, very satisfied with the whole experience. Super funky decor, attentive staff, and quick service. A wide variety on the menu, and lots of veggie and vegan options too. One thing I would say is the table we sat at was very low, and tricky to eat from. No stars deducted though, as we chose to sit there, so was our own fault - just something to be aware of! Can't wait to return!

Nice place, nice food, good value. Shame about the two students sat on a table of six for at least an hour and a half with one drink eating their own food! A family were looking for a table and left when they could have sat on the table that was taken up by two people who were clearly here only to use the WiFi with laptops out. This wasn't a major issue to our table at first but the fact they were eating one another to death and also crying etc it just spoiled our visit as it was very distracting and off-putting. They obviously only had an appetite for one another so didn't actually need to eat a meal from here. Unfortunately this made us loose our appetite! Not sure how long they arrived before us but they were still there for the hour and a half we were there. This is the first review I've ever left anywhere ever and thought the management should consider if loosing families looking to eat over students who occupy hours of table space putting off regular customers and spending less than a tenner is good management?

I've been here for the first time ever for Tapas Tuesday. Initially I thought 6 Tapas wouldn't be enough for me and my girlfriend but they were actually plenty. The food was extremely good, with very strong flavors, and there's a pretty good selection of wines to choose from. It's a great formula for sharing and tasting different dishes. I'd say it's good value for money, I'd absolutely recommend going if you happen to be in Aberystwyth.

Lovely place, just done out beautifully. We sat outside having coffee on a warmish day in October. I can see this being brilliant in the summer and worthy of that fifth star. Super Boujie decor - loved it. Ultimate for a ladies night as the cocktails are so good and there's plenty of variety. Some nice non alcoholic versions too! Visited twice love the concept, the staff are friendly but everything is too slow. The ordering website wouldn't work on my phone waited 30 minutes, ordered on my partner's phone waited 30 minutes for two cocktails and an hour for food. So don't go if you are hungry! Food is tasty, but they really need to get enough staff. Outside chairs are super uncomfortable if you are short, music is very loud, lads on the table ordered three cocktails each as service was so slow. Probably would try again at a non-peak time but for food and a drink would go to Spoons instead.

The real problem is ordering at the bar, people going up several times because they had to reselect, mixed with people ordering and people paying. Staff were frazzled. We also had at least half hour wait for the meal. Good points, very clean surfaces, lovely building, pleasant staff and food good when it arrived. As I said, probably a bad climate for a new restaurant. I will go back in 6 months. My only one complaint is went outside for a cigarette and left my coat so they knew we was coming back in however this didn't stop them from taking away our drinks that were half full, and at £8 a time thought this was a bit of a cheek, was going stop for another but this changed our minds, didn't want to pay another £16 to have them take these away too, get the staff to open their eyes in future.

After a visit to the Athro Lounge in Aberystwyth, mid July 2021, and experiencing a long wait for food 1 hour and our first drink took nearly 30 minutes. I have had a long chat with the Management at Head Office. They are aware of the issues and are doing all they can to fix them! I did state its not the staff in the restaurant's fault who are working as hard as they can, its down to the management at Head Office to sort the issues out, if that means more staff or support on site or training. I will also add the staff are friendly and doing all they can. Head Office are committed to making this restaurant work, so it lets hope they do what's needed. The venue has been finished to the highest standards and is a beautiful environment to visit and I am sure to work in. Lets hope all the teething problems are sorted out soon.

Looking for somewhere to eat in Aberystwyth has proven hard without having to book a while in advance. Found this place and asked about booking - they only take walk ins which was good for us! Food was ordered and paid for through the app and arrived quickly (even though they said it was busy and there'd be a wait for food). Top quality - lots of vegetarian choices - highly recommend. Husband has the tapas and recommended them massively. My vegan hot dog was delicious too. Definitely visit again if we ever come to Aber again.
