Reviews of Rhydypennau Inn
R. K.
Great pub, fantastic food...we were greeted by the waitress and made to feel very welcome. Had gammon from the main menu which was delicious. The waitress and gent behind the bar were both lovely... e sat in the lower bar, but there's also another larger dining area from the car park side, a great room with pool table and darts, little play area outside, garden seating, dog friendly....enjoyed our first visit and will certainly be back.
Been back again twice now..still as good, the team are lovely..so nice to our dog too..food was just as good as the first time we went!

We stopped for a spot of lunch - the service was brilliant!!! A lovely older lady couldn't do enough for us. We had a children's burger meal and an adults burger they were lovely. Great priced food will most definitely be back.

We visited for Sunday lunch and will definitely return again. The service was excellent, the staff were very helpful and the owner was a proper landlord who was taking care to make sure that a busy service ran well. The Sunday carvery was good and the portion was generous. The chap who was on the carvery was also friendly even though we were there later in the service and he'd probably had a long shift! The desserts were nice and the portions enormous, we certainly felt we got our money's worth. The kids play area was well cared for and in good order, smoking area looked good too. We did book ahead as it was busy but I got the impression that the staff would do what they could to accommodate walk in tables if they could.

What a little gem! Fabulous food , lovely stuff! Recipe for a perfect Sunday!

By a stroke of luck, we stopped here on our way home from a staycation.
Excellent food (particularly the rump steak), served extremely promptly, reasonably priced, and very friendly staff.
It's a shame we don't live closer, otherwise we'd definitely return.

Friendly staff. We landed on carvery day (Sunday), when perhaps corners are cut, but the food wasn't great. Tasted a bit ping & fling, which is fine for a chain place, because it's what you pay for. Disappointed.

Couldn’t recommend this place enough, fab food, fab value! We felt very welcomed as a large group of 3 families with children ranging from 1-13, will definitely be coming back 😍

Lovely place, friendly staff, we're able to accommodate 7 people and the food was great quality at a reasonable price. Even has a pool table, play area for kids and a covered smoking area.

Called in here for lunch. Really nice welcome, friendly staff and very good pub food. Dogs welcome in the bar area which was very nice and plenty of room and he even got some treats off the staff. Would definitely call in again if in the area.

The staff here are the most polite staff I have had the pleasure of meeting.
Great food, great service, highly recommend it.
I will be going again

Had a lovely Sunday lunch on 21st August 2022, cavory choice of 3 meats and a really good selection of vegetables, everything all lovely and hot, desserts were really nice as well, could not fault it.

We stopped for dinner here whilst having a weekend away locally. We were a part of 4 adults and 3 children and the service was excellent!
Staff couldn’t do enough for us, incredibly kind to the children, food was reasonably priced and delicious. Definitely recommend.

First visit to Rhydypennau Inn and was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious just had the Yorkshire pudding sausage and mash.Could not fault the standard of the classic pub grub and the little gravy boat that came with the meal was also delicious.
Will definitely call again the pub itself is situated just as you enter Bow Street from the Machynlleth to Aberystwyth road.

Lovely people great food dog friendly over all loved my visits there
A. W.
Food portions were huge, we couldn't finish our meals. Lovely, freshly prepared food .
P. O.
It's OK, a bit rough around the edges. We didn't eat here, menu looked basic and mostly fried from what I could see on the menu board. Chips, scampi, sausage, nuggets, onion rings....beige food galore! In fairness though, this was just the chalk board menu and there may be more on offer
A. H.
Visited twice in one week. Food is excellent. Landlord and staff could not have made us feel more welcome. Will definately be back .
R. C.
We visited the pub whilst on holiday and the team at the pub were lovely. The park was great for the kids. We had children of various ages with us (some fairly fussy eaters amongst them!) and it was clear plates all around. The food was excellent and very well priced. We will definitely be coming back again. Thank you for such a lovely experience.

Great food, dog friendly very welcoming thankyou

Friendly staff and very accommodating. Had my 2 dogs with me and they supplied water and treats. Food was good. Everywhere clean and tidy.
L. B.
Owner and staff are so friendly, helped accommodate us a few times whilst on a week's break away.
Food is very very nice and makes it even better its a walk away from where we were staying! Of course we found a local pub, top priority and makes it even better that this one was as welcoming as it was!
Thanks so much for making us at home, if we return we will definitely be back! 😊

Everywhere else was full so we tried the Rhydypennau. Was told to be there at 1pm but would have to eat in the bar. Not a problem.
Got there at 1pm seated immediately but then 20 mins before we could order drinks. Lucky, as we were just about to walk out. But then another 15 mins before we could go to carvery.
Food wise - average. All the meat seems to be pre-booked and pre-sliced. No joints of meat carved in front of you. It tasted ok, but not more than that.
Veggies - not a bad selection, but all over cooked. A few choices had run out.
Sauces - all run out except for gravy. But the gravy was good. Very good!
Service - all the staff were very friendly and nice, but it felt more like a cafe. And service was far too slow.
Go again? Yes, but not our first choice. The standard of food was average. There are much better places that charge the same price and with much quicker service. We would rather go to them.
D. D.
Food was amazing. Big portions. Staff very nice and friendly. Perfect.

Lovely pub has a big garden lots of parking . Great prices for the food and it was really nice. Proper pub grub

Stopped for lunch, served by a very friendly and polite young lady. Food was very nice, made our dogs welcome with a water bowl and a big bone biscuit each. Didn't visit at a busy time but if it's always like this I would definitely go back.
G. M.
Good ale's friendly staff & just around the corner from our campsite.

I have been going to the Rhydeppenau Inn most of my life and it just gets better the decor is amazing the new outside area is lovely and you can take your pooch with you. Food is good and always friendly staff and locals to chat to.
T. M.
Lovely food, dog friendly, helpful and friendly staff
A. J.
We booked but were 10 minutes late and the staff member who greeted us let us know how disappointed she was at that. They didn't appear that busy so didn't seem a problem to us. Menu choice was severely restricted which they hadn't mentioned on the phone. That said the food was good and came quite quickly. We ate in the marquee which was lit and heated but people were permitted to smoke in it.
E. J.
Enjoy our basket meal Very dog friendly water and treats for the dogs
P. C.
Absolutely stunning food, staff were excellent, extremely helpful and even with a table of 8 very short wait for drinks and food arrived quicker than expected and hot. Good portion size and filling, will definitely visit again when over this way next time
D. R.
Lovely setting, food great and the service top notch . Totally recommend . Our waitresses on both occasions were fab especially Elaine on the Sunday . Thankyou
A. M.
Aesthetically the Rhyd-y-Pennau inn is pleasing, the interior design acknowledges it's heritage as a cross roads Inn (quite literally in the name "The fork of the heads", referencing the very fork or intersection in which it is positioned), whilst also keeping itself fairly modern. On entre to the inn, one finds themselves in a quote bar, filled with locals watching whichever game is on that evening.
To the left you will enter the restaurant section and this was the beginning of our troubles that night. The staff seem quite undertrained, which is fine for a side of the road inn which most people seem to have lunch, but for the evening meal, we found ourselves feeling quite awkward when the staff seemed to had no clue what they were doing.
One of our party's drinks arrived wrong, and when we we picked our meals, staff had no clue what the meal of the day was, and we overheard them bickering about what to do. One member of our party was told the pie of the week was a steak and ale pie, whilst another member was asking do you want chips with the their meal which was supposed to arrive with chips.
This is but one example of the slight awkwardness and unprofessionalism demonstrated by staff.
The food arrived fairly quickly which we were pleasantly surprised, having only ordered no more than ten minutes prior. However, we could easily tell that the food was not fresh. They sent out the wrong pie, a stake and kidney pie which was cold and rock solid in some places and quite hot with gooey pastry in others. This has clearly been frozen prior to being reheated.
Fellow members of our party were also not incredibly satisfied with their meals, the lasagne was overly tomatie, the mash tasted cheap. However, a noticeable exception to all this were the sausages, which were incredible.
This is not to say that the food isn't great. The food would make a great pit stop on the road in a pitch, it is not unpleasant , simply that it is low quality meant for the type of traveller who is far too hungry than pickie.

Excellent food and service. Eating area needs refurbishment.
G. B.
Lovely meal. I had Chicken curry and my sister had lasagne, followed by the best cheesecake I have ever had .Mint Aero flavour. Compliments to the chef . Thoroughly recommend and a reasonable price as well
R. J.
Good solid pub food and great service!
M. H.
Excellent Sunday lunch,booking ahead adviced

Had a wonderful gammon meal here. 🐕 Dogs are welcome in the bar area not in the restaurant.
Will be going back for a steak meal and recomend people to go.
Also TV there for sports, if you're into that x

Stopped in for drinks and then again for a spot of lunch. Both times Staff very friendly. Offered advice and recommendations. Menu was restricted due to COVID but kids had basket meals which were just right for them. had a nice chicken curry which hit the spot
And the Butty Bach Ale hit the spot ! Not a bad little place. Peaceful relaxing with a nice atmosphere, good size garden and plenty of parking. Easy access for disabled or less mobile. Pet friendly
L. A.
Very friendly pub meals a great and dog friendly.
P. R.
Very friendly service from the waiting staff and manager/owner. The restaurant was well laid out and decoration very good. Food choice was good with vegetarian/vegan options available too.
Recommendations would be the large beef burger and pulled pork meal, also the beef lasagne. The latter was very tasty and a sizeable portion. It also came with a nice fresh salad garnish, chips, peas and carrots.
The only negative for me was the bean chilli. Whilst tasting fine, it was dull in presentation compared to the lasagne. Only coming with rice and no salad garnish. My first impression was it was a thick soup too as it came in a bowl. Maybe a few taco chips or chunkier vegetables, or pot of sour cream or cheese could have been added? Other than that I would definitely return for a future visit, probably opting for the vegetarian lasagne though! 👍
D. R.
Good quality food ,lovely place friendly staff,

Great service and amazing food&beer

Great pub with amazing food. Got here during their busy time (also with the government's 50% off it was probably even busier) so was told there's a wait for food, but thats okay we drank until the food was available. The staff we spoke with were very friendly, and the owner Barry we had a good chat with and could see he was doing all he could for locals and us that are passing by.

Staying in the area for a few days and called in for a bite to eat. The welcome was excellent, the staff were most helpful, polite and friendly. On top of that the food and cask ale were also excellent.
All this whilst coping with the present restrictions.
