Nice clean restaurant. Staff lovely and friendly. Quick service, staff very helpful. Nice selection of food. Well priced. 2 courses for £15.95, 3 courses £17.95. Everything nicely cooked. Would recommend and go back.

My waitress tonight was Amy, a very polite and helpful young lady, she listened carefully to my food order. Got it right and served up in a good time. The food I have to say was excellent. I ordered a medium steak which was cooked to perfection. The whole meal was very well presented, tasted superb and I think excellent value for money. I will definitely be returning to have another meal soon. 5 stars raiting!

Went with some friends for breakfast, surprisingly cheap. Had the waffles, bacon and sausage, delicious. Dinner menu can get a little expensive but if you're up and about early enough, the breakfast menu is great. Always fantastic and friendly service. Consistent food. Clean, welcoming space.

I went to the Harvester last weekend and want to be as honest as I can without appearing to be overly critical. Whilst I find the food, salad bar stall and service adequate I won't be returning. The reason I won't return is that I honestly think that the price the Harvester establishment charge for food and dessert is too expensive in comparison to other restaurants in Bedford that frankly have much better food on the plate. My bill came to £52 pounds for two of us. Other fancy restaurants in town don't charge this much for so little and put much more on the plate and give you a much greater variety. I can pay less and get more or pay as much as I paid at the Harvester and get much more elsewhere. There is nothing wrong with paying for something IF you are getting the equivalent value. Some of you may see this as a knit picking issue and I understand it could be interpreted this way but if you don't believe me try out the other catering establishments in Bedford. This was not an easy review to type as technically I didn't have a major cause to complain about anything other than the price. My final critique is that the Harvester need to dramatically improve their dishes or sharply drop their prices to ensure integrity. It is just my personal opinion rather than any grievance.

We arrived for the lunch time menu and it was really busy. They appeared to be short staffed but the young girl on service really tried her best and was rushing around and it was a very hot day so bless her she did well. The hostess was also helping out to keep things going more smoothly. Food was delicious. We did have to wait for drinks but as I said it couldn't be helped.

The food and service were very good, however the method of payment was positively archaic!! For some reason best known to yourselves, I couldn't set up a tab using my debit card and had to pay for the food/drinks piecemeal. Surely it would be easier for all concerned to arrange one payment at the end?

Edit: Thank you Chelsea for always serving us an awesome breakfast, you take the review up to 5 stars! You really cannot complain about The Harvester for the amount of food, service and choice you get at such a low price. The options now for vegetarians is absolutely brilliant and I always love the salad bar, I'm only a 4/5 stars because you STILL can't get your own salad and it has to be done by a member of staff which seems an awful waste of their time. I had cod and chips which was absolutely delicious and my fiancee demolished his burger. Good experience as always!

Two menus to choose from. One was a la carte and the other a set meal style, two or three courses. We chose from both menus. The meals were both well cooked and served. The free salad before the meal was a surprise. The service was excellent. The food was a standard fare but good for what it was.

We have just left Bedford Harvester and had an excellent experience thanks to Josef our waiter. He was very attentive and professional and had a lovely sense of humour which made our experience excellent. He even went above and beyond his duties and chased after me when I left the restaurant having left my spectacles on the table! Great job Josef! Booked a table on a Friday night to celebrate my ‘step’ brother’s birthday, for 8.30pm due to me working a 12 hr shift. By the time we ordered drinks it was about 8.45pm. Been here a few times before covid. Couldn’t fault the service from our waitress who seemed to looking after the entire place by herself. There wasn’t a lot in the dishes in the salad bar (I love sweetcorn). But it was ok. I didn’t want to get too full. Meals came out fine , portions were great and they did a 2 or 3 course meal deal that was well worth the money. Sadly the steaks were so hard that the steak knife wouldn’t cut it so had to be returned so that delayed us but my biggest absolute gripe was at 10pm when the kitchen staff brought out a great big wet’n’ dry industrial hoover and proceeded to hoover the kitchen area and banged around removing trays from the salad bar. Everyone was struggling to hear each other and I’m normally a timid person but something snapped in me when I couldn’t hear my step mum who was sitting opposite me - I went up to the kitchen area (hoover is in the restaurant near a poor young couple too) and got their attention and asked them if it was really necessary that they do that now whilst everyone is trying to enjoy their food. I explained that we can’t hear each other. The young couple looked grateful. The chef turned off the hoover and I went back to my seat, shaking. There were still others in here eating, not just us. When I left, we didn’t leave a tip, if I wasn’t paying by card, I would have slipped a £5 for the waitress just for her as she did not stop working, cleaning tables etc all night. I’m not sure I’d go again during the week as I finish work at 8pm. I really couldn’t cope with the hoovering again

Me and my partner come here very often. Staff are all lovely and attentive. Food is often very good for a good price. We definitely will keep coming back. The only bad thing I would point out is the drink service is quite slow coming out. Even when there’s only a few tables drinks till take over 15 mins to arrive.

Large establishment, dark and dull inside, still holding on to its family gastro pub title, its slip is showing now tho, its tired and old style now and given over to tracksuit bottomed tattooed clientele with van park Friday workers grubbing a pint before home. The kudos has long left such places. Food is still very good. Staffing is minimal stretched at times, because whomevers free serves the bar for large rounds of drink orders from patio customers. When you have waitresses attention tho they're locked into your table, they're so very good and helpful and won't leave you until they're sure your absolutely happy.

What can I say really, from the moment we opened the door and got greeted by a friendly member of staff, wished a good morning and took us to an available table, table was extremely clean and everything layed out, nothing missing unlike some places you go, the tables are sticky and just generally feels dirty, but pleased to say not here. Got seated and we gave our drink order and this was promptly delivered and we was asked for our order, and to be fair to say its cooked freshly for you the wait wasn't long at all, everything was as I ordered and to my liking and tasted just great, the waitress asked us several times if we was ok or we needed anything else and just seemed nothing was to much trouble. Excellent service and a excellent breakfast certainly not disappointed, So if your thinking of trying here then do so as you certainly won't be disappointed, if I could give 10 stars I would, And to our waitress thank you for such excellent service 👏.

After a heavy heavy night of drinking with the boys from old school RuneScape. We took to orchards harvester for a greasy breakfast to soak up the alcohol. We are went for the unlimited breakfast but I was extremely disappointed to discover that this is not buffet style. And you must order by stating how much you want of each item. This defeats the point of feeling unlimited. The food took a while to arrive and staff were very slow to give us the bill at the end, they disappeared for ages. We were seated on a terrible place for just how many of us there were. One thing that must be stated is the cutlery is absolutely disgusting. They have food reminants on them from the previous use. I and someone else sat near me had to locate another set as Mine had a pea stuck to it. This made my experience not so enjoyable. Food was tasty and helped soak up the alcohol but can't stop thinking or dreaming about that cutlery. Seriously it had food stuck on it ;(

Good selection of Decent quality food in a nice pub setting, plenty of seating, salad bar had been ‘hammered’ by the time we got there but all varieties of salad still on display. Sauces were a nice addition. I particularly liked the Garlic sauce with a chilli kick. Not pushy about tips and lunch menu offers real value for money. No kids cutlery or plates for the tiny bread rolls (just ran out) gents toilets had a considerable amount of ‘water’ (let’s hope) all over the floor in front of the urinals. I would recommend and return.

Atmosphere is amazing here, if you don't want to wait for a table you can sometimes find a table at the bar, which is I feel a little louder, however the waiting time is definitely reduced. Good food with clear pricing and on the ball servers. Tess, aka our waitress was on form. She dealt with every whim and whime that my dining companion & I had + nothing was too much for her! Enclosed are photos off our given meals, beef brisket with mash and seasonal vegetables, cheese and bacon burger with chunky chips (I'm not keen on chunky chips FYI) & the pudding was blackberry compote with vegan ice cream + my friend had the normal dairy version. The toilets weren't fully accessible, so they lose a star for this. Plus, it quickly become verry busy & for some folk like me, it ain't ideal + it'd be nice if they had a quiet corner. So, there's lots to like but there's also many things to work on, to make it 100% perfect for diners like myself! :O

This used to be a favourite place to get a decent sized value for money meal! Why is it "on trend" to serve chips in a bucket? The said chips according to the menu are "triple cooked" these weren't even cooked once! Wife chose scampi and she told me that the plate she'd received was not worth the money and why so stingy on the peas!? The waitress however did suggest that instead of ordering the burger meal chose from the evening set menu and for the same money I could have a starter and main or main and a pudding. I chose the main and pudding incidentally was cherry pie and custard which was delicious! The waitress and service was very good however and salad bar although some what limited in choice was ok.

We love to go the Orchard, with friends, family or just the two of us. The staff is always nice and the food is OK and not too expensive. They are also very kid friendly, even had a member of staff doing tricks with balloons the kids got then as a gift. Really great experience and a nice looking place as well. Only advice is to book a table if you go there over the weekend.

Visited March 2022. Food is OK and priced well but service can be hit and miss at times, though always friendly. The covid approach to the salad bar needs to be retired though (if you haven't been in a while you now tour the salad bar with a member of staff and tell them what you want - only they may touch the sacred tongs etc now). The drinks machine is still open season though(!?).

Haven't been to a Harvester for many years but went tonight and was impressed particularly by the staff. It was busy but all were polite, cheerful and efficient. The food was good, but the service was excellent. Special mention to Brandon, who served us with such smiliness and good cheer my husband and I commented on it amongst ourselves. Great job!

Fair play to the Harvester a couple of years ago I got a very poor meal however they have turned things around and now they do some decent well presented food and the staff are very friendly. The menus I have noticed have been reduced but if that means you give a better service all around I applaud the decision. Popped in here for a mid-afternoon snack and not wanting a full blown meal it was nice to be able to order off the full menu in the bar. It’s a cosy area with comfortable seating, clean tables and a screen which was showing sport at the time. Naturally there’s no table service in the area but ordering from the bar was easy. The staff were friendly and quick and the food itself arrived in good time. Standard soft drinks can be ordered as refillable, with the self-service machine having lots of options, including flavoured shots for items such a cola. We’d ordered a number of the small plates to share and each one was a good portion size. Everything was cooked well and despite it being a no-fuss snack was very tasty. I’d happily return whether for just a drink or a proper meal.

I went to The Orchard with my family to celebrate my little boy's birthday on Saturday. We booked for 5pm and arrived a little early. We were seated pretty much straight away, our server took a long time to even come and take our drinks order, served tables that had arrived after us first, we ended up having to ask a passing server to take our drinks order. It wasn't even particularly busy at the time. The menu has been changed since the last time we attended and it seems that they have removed quite a few of the things we liked. Unless you want the chicken, a steak or a burger, there isn't much else. When we ordered our food I asked for my chips to be substituted for a jacket potato only to be told they had run out and the only substitute they could offer was mixed veg! The triple cooked chips were greasy and tasteless, the chicken was dry and the gravy had a thick skin on it. I was left disappointed by my visit and went be returning for a long time.

This restaurant has been a bit hit and miss the past couple of months. We’ve been with friends on a quieter evening and the food was lovely although the wait was a little long. Then last week we went with family on a busy Sunday (table was booked) and the food came slowly and most was slightly over cooked. The bottom of chicken was more brown and the potato skins were very crispy. The staff however are always very friendly and so helpful. Service from the bar was great but to be honest it was so busy the rest of the experience was average at best. We waited for a table which is no problem as the bar staff were a laugh. When we got a table the salad bar was empty, I asked a waitress if someone could quickly grab me some bread and although she did ask the kitchen straight away her face did look like I'd ask her to cut off her right arm. The tables are spread out enough that even though it's busy you're not too bothered. It was just we felt we were an inconvenience to restaraunt staff after such a nice welcome by the bar staff. I'm sure it would be better when it's quiet.

I've never had a really bad experience here, and I've been many MANY times. Yes, if it is busy you'll have to wait to be seated, but there's a bar area to wait in... The waitresses have always been polite and friendly even when clearly stressed/flustered. There is a good range of food (though I wish they'd bring the sea bass back!) to cater for most tastes and the mixed grill (if you're really hungry) is usually pretty good. I also like the calories being on the menu, though that's becoming more common now anyway. The only complaint I'd have, and the reason I knocked a star off, is that if they're busy there seems to be quite a delay between the food being ready and it being delivered. Don't get me wrong, it's always hot, but you can tell when mashed potato has been sitting under a heat lamp for too long... you know? Oh I've never used the salad bar, but I think that's a great addition that you don't get elsewhere. I do like the free refills on lemonade though. Reasonable prices too, I often meet up with family here and it never breaks the banks (not that I'm usually the one paying...). You can also get vouchers for free desserts and stuff. Come to think of it, it's all pretty good!

I like the harvesters concept and their menu. However the last 2 visits to this restaurant have been disappointing. On the first visit one of the meals was cold and the service was poor on the last visit the service was terrible and when I say terrible I mean we had to wait 20 minuets for drinks then another 30 minutes for food and we ordered more drinks when the food arrived and they took another 20 mins so by the time they arrived the food was finished. We were to scared to order dessert incase we didn't get it till breakfast. And then to top it off it took another 10 minutes of waiting for the bill for us to give up and pay on the way out!!! This restaurant is under staffed the poor waitress could never keep up with all the tables she was serving

But exactly as that happened a new patron went straight up to the bar and was served. There was just one person behind the bar. It is always slow to be served here and is touch and go if you are served when it is your turn.

The food is lovely here and we had a great Server who was very polite and friendly. However, we went when the weather was hot and they had no air conditioning at the Bedford store. It was extremely hot inside and very uncomfortable. I wouldn't visit again in hot weather. In this day and age and especially a restaurant, you would think a big company like Harvester would look after their customers and their staff and install air conditioning. It must be terrible working conditions for the staff. Also they had run out of Bacardi, again. It's the 2nd time it has happened to me there. I was told the 1st time after I complained to the manager, that he would take a look at the stock levels. Clearly this didn't happen because they had ran out again. One of the most popular drinks in a bar and they run out - something needs to be done. The manager gave me a free drink as a good will gesture this time, which was very nice of him but I would had prefered what I had ordered.

What makes this place above average is friendly staff... and relaxed atmosphere... salad is all you can eat this also comes with potato salad (quite good ) and pasta ( pretty gross)... the main menu is mainly chargrilled meats (pretty good )... size of meats have reduced significantly over the years... but still OK value. One of my favourite restaurants for a relaxing dinner.

Sunday lunch was another great experience as usual. Even without a booking we were seated on arrival. Harvesters had its usual clean, warm, inviting atmosphere, just the place one wants to go to and enjoy a tasty, well cooked meal. The salad bar is lovely with good choices available, even bread rolls, although sometimes i have found them abit hard. But overall i really enjoy visiting Harvester. To be honest its always one of my fiancé's first choices when we go out for Sunday lunch. Thank you harvester's.

I'd be lying if I said my friend and I hadn't visited this restaurant over 30 times this year. It's right by our work so a perfect location for socialising. The staff are always friendly and always have a good laugh with us. The food is fantastic...however I do have to say that the summer menu is a million times better than the winter menu. Petitioning to get back the delights of a halloumi wrap haha. Will continue to come here near enough every week because it's the greatest restaurant in the area. Have tried many others, but always failed on food or service. Five stars for The Harvester in Bedford! We'll continue to visit in the new year and beyond, the pasta on the salad bar is what I live for.

Recent visit my partner had to request her food replaced twice because they didn't take into account what she had asked to be removed from the plate. Normally they are very Good, the rest of our food was great.

Very nice relaxing meal. Sorry to remove a star after our last visit. I had to send my meal back as it was barely warm, by the time it came back the other members of the family were just finishing their main. My grandson sUd where's his flake in his sundae, and finally 2 of us had cherry pie and custard with a decent sized pie but why on earth was an egg cup size container of custard given with it, when we challenged the measly portion which 2 of us had so she went and got between 2 people 1 more egg cup portion, it was laughable. There couldn't have been more than a quarter of a, £1 tin between the 2 puddings and am sure harvester pay less than that for their bulk buying. Don't be so tight harvester. Unfortunately the whole experience put us off going back to you as it was meant to be a nice family get together but ended up a joke. The last time I ever complained for similar service closed 2 weeks later. I felt sorry for your waitress who took the flack and still tipped her, she was lovely but frustrated by your kitchens and tight management's incompetence.

I'm not the biggest fan of this chain but the food and staff (Sharon) were very good. I would have rated it as 5 star but for the following : Ran out of cheese Ran out of one burger option Would not give one of our party a large bowl when they ordered and paid for salad as a main. Ever tried eating a salad as a main meal out of tiny bowls? Ridiculous. Disabled toilet is locked. So you have to find someone to open it. Not the way to treat the disabled IMHO and what if they need the toilet quickly and the restaurant is busy? The last two points are company policy so no reflection on the staff. I suspect not being able to stock up from Tesco Etal is also company policy. No cheese? Go and buy some it's widely available.

I booked The Orchard for a party of 18 for a family occasion, as it seemed perfect for all ages. Our waitress (Emmi) was magnificent, cheerful, helpful, polite and patient, she made sure all our food was delivered together so we could all eat together and she could not have been more helpful. The food was hot, well presented and exactly as described, even the children's meals were generous. There was a good choice, even for a fussy Grandma! We would thank the staff, especially Emmi, for making us feel welcome and for not making us feel rushed. In fact her enthusiasm was infectious and added to the atmosphere. There were no hiccups with the order or bill as is the norm with large parties, and it was worth every penny. We will certainly recommend.
