Food is mostly great. Sometimes the meat isn't as well cooked as we liked. Very good adequate room both inside and out.

I've awarded 4 stars for our visit on Sunday 1/5/22. Unfortunately, once we were ready to order we were informed that they'd run out of steak - which was disappointing because 5 of our party of 8 wanted exactly that. They'd also no pork to offer. We then had to return to the menu to search for alternatives. ( Our waitress was very helpful, varying a few standard items to accommodate - mixed grill with extra sausages instead of steak, and recommending a couple of dishes we'd not considered, very professional.) We continued with the meal mainly because it was a bank holiday weekend and everywhere else was fully booked. - However, the food we did order was brilliant, if a little pub-lunchy. Also it was unbelievably good value. I'd recommend the Red Lion to anyone despite the aforementioned issues. Nice atmosphere, excellent service, friendly & bargain. Well done all concerned.

I went to the Red Lion for lunch. The staff were friendly and the lunch I ordered was very nice. There is a nice vibe in the pub with a snooker table, dart board and TV. I gave it four stars because I went in the afternoon and can't comment on the night time aspect of the pub. I was happy I attended and would be happy to recommend the Red Lion pub.

Food was kinda cheap and cheerful, had mixed grill and all the meat was over done and steak was tough as. Staff are nice and polite and it is a large pub with a good sized garden but the food wasn't up to par unfortunately. 6/10

Came in for a late bite, was a bit cheeky and didn't book but the Manager Danny was kind enough to fit us in during a really busy night. Served by Maddie & Ella. They were lovely and welcoming. Look forward to coming back.

It was.... OK. Nothing wrong with the food per se, but there was a lack of general seasoning and flavour on some of the dishes - the sizzling and fajitas in particular. The veg on both also consisted of mainly onions and an occasional sprig of broccoli. That said, the food was hot and all came out together, and even though we missed a meal off our pre-order, they turned it around very quickly. We were a party of 12 but told that table-service was only for large tables... not sure how many people constitute a large table, but it was no great problem, just a bit surprising. The John Smiths beer was good, average selection of gin but they need to expand the range of tonics - very limited! It wouldn't be the first place I would think of when going out, but I wouldn't say no either.

Good food, but service and cleanliness are horrible. 3 or 4 waitresses are walking around, tables are a mess, not too many people at all, but no one is trying to tidy up the mess on the tables and the floor. Also We have ordered a new cocktail, called Pink Gordon's or something similar. Comes out in a tiny glass from wine as apparently there are no cocktail glasses available and not pink at all. Full glass of ice. Oh well, I check drinks menu as Cocktail looks nothing like in the picture, I will attach the photo. No strawberries as well, no one mentioned that either, we had to look in the menu. No tissues given, or found anywhere around the stations where sauces are kept. Bottles with the sauces empty on every other table, people are walking looking for a new ones. An update after several years later... Nicely refurbished, much improved service. Just the food. How come you can get a perfectly medium rare steak, and very well done instead of meadium rare nex time. Chicken tenders juicy and lovely to eat and absolutely dry and awful next time.. There must be two chefs, one good one and one not so good..

Been here many times over the years. Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Family birthdays, Boxing day meals. Can not fault this place. Food is always great. Prices are reasonable. Service always good. Went there ( Elstow branch) on the off chance of trying their fish & chips. Previously tried lots of places but never found the place that does nice fish ( not dripping in grease when you cut into it and fish totally dried out) or chips not cooked enough. Look no further, amazing fish, batter so crispy and not dripping in grease, fish meat cooked perfect and chips, just right plus you get peas with it. My husband & I really enjoyed this meal. Big benefits you can have a drink while you wait for it to be cooked and the portions were great. Price wise we think it was cheaper than what we pay for take away. Give it a try.

On the upside there’s a well maintained pool table, everything is clean and the staff are friendly, there’s ample parking and it’s in a good location, drinks were good too.

The food was great and freshly cooked, both adults and children's. For me (a female),the portion size was perfect, my jacket potato was palm size, the steak was cooked perfectly. My son in law, was however could have eaten a little more, but was adequately full after a desert. Nice to see a pub that is contributing to a no waste policy, and correct portion sizing. The staff were lovely, the pub very clean and ample parking.

Although it was a very very busy time we received our starters pretty quickly. We expected the mains to take a long time and they did,but we weren't concerned. The food as always was piping hot and delicious. It's the reason why we are regular visitors!!

I've been here many times over the years as it is my local. The staff and manager are all exceptional and work hard to give you a great experience, whether eating in or for casual drinking. The menu is very large with lots of options, and it is always pretty easy to get a table without booking. The garden area is also great - the best in the area. The fajitas are great!

Even tho the guy who served me was lovely & very helpful, the girls behind the bar were abit more casual & blunt, like they didn't seem to care how they came across. When it got to closing time the staff seemed to take a very angry approach to get everyone out so they could lock up. Other than this, the atmosphere was great & plenty of seating areas :)

Beer is a good price 👌. There are limited vegan options but, the food is a good get what you pay for price and it was rapid. However, the boss wasn't wearing a face mask whilst complaining about restrictions, and neither were the bar staff AND none of the customers at the bar.

Great place for a family afternoon. Drink and food is delicious and the food is made at the place in the kitchen so it's fresh and warm. The prices are fair and reasonable so it's not a bother to come there every weekend. Plenty of spaces both inside and outside (outside also has good shady spots available). Better to come a little earlier, about the afternoon to evening, as the place gets crowded after 5-6. With the place crowded, the service gets slower so please remember to ask about your order if it gets too long of a wait. They also tend to forget small parts of the order sometimes but the staff is sympathetic and quick to work on it if you ask.

food was lovely nothing to complain about in regards to the food or the staff really, however would have preferred not to have been in the restaurant where the tele is when the rugby was on. we had 5 people at our table which included a 6year old child. around us were a table of 10 adults and behind us a table of at least another 5 adults, who wernt eating just sitting watching the rugby, being loud and swearing while we're trying to eat. therefore I do not feel that we had a great experience, would have thought the restaurant was for food customers not drinking customer, that's what the pub bit is for. we will return but will make sure no sport events are on before we book.

Tonight we visited this pub for the 1st time and what can I say firstly they clearly explained the new rules due to Covid 19 it was a very clean environment and plenty of hand sanitiser around so you felt that it was clean and safe. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and now for the food it was absolutely amazing I had the lamb kofta's and my husband had salt and pepper mushrooms for starters which were both lovely ,I had the fish and chips which was perfect and my husband had the vegetarian Sri Lankan curry and my husband was impressed by the vegetarian options. We also had the Caramel apple crumble and it really does taste amazing, so all in all an amazing dinner and we shall definitely be returning.

Not a place I would choose to go back to. There delivery hadn't turned up so basically had run out of quite a few things, steak, chilli beef, etc. This was through no fault of there own though. Ordered nachos and it came out as wraps toasted, and cut into small slices, with like a mayo on top, jalapeños and sliced spring onion, no dips i.e. guacamole, sour cream...I don't like salsa so I didn't mind they had run out. Nice staff, friendly.

Haven't been for a while due to lockdown and been twice in one week. Safety measures are brilliant and staff are brilliant in what they have to do All staff are great and professional in safety measures that need to be done Track and trace on arrival Hand sanitising before you go in One member of staff always sticks out in my visit and actually choose the day she is working because of her friendliness and public approach Coral has the most amazing connection with the public and is always smiling and makes our visit so special A credit to your business Thank-you

This is quite a large pub but is clearly more geared as a restaurant than just for drinks. Having said that though, if you can get a table in the bar area, it's relaxing enough. It was a shame that both the table and menus were sticky and dirty and an uplift wouldn't go unappreciated. The staff are friendly though and service was quick. I didn't sample the food but the menu had a good range and should suit most people with reasonable standard pub prices. With a large outdoor area it'd be more enjoyable in the summer I'm sure but if you're looking for a fuss free meal in the area it's worth considering.

Went here for my wife's birthday and I have to say that it was one of the nicest meals we've had there. We had a skillet each and despite the steak being more on the rare side of medium it was lovely. We are regulars at this restaurant and it has gone from strength to strength over the past few years. I have always had good food here, at really reasonable prices, but they need more staff! We were here for lunch on Friday and the lady behind the bar was on her own serving the regulars who just pop in for a drink, plus other customers wanting to order and pay for their meals. She was running around like a headless chicken trying to keep everyone happy, it was ridiculous! The poor woman was under so much stress and the queue was about 7-8 people deep waiting to order food. Also, when ordering desserts, I was told that there was no cheesecake left and no apple crumble? For an establishment like this chain, open from 11am - 11pm what selections are they going to have available for the rest of the day, if two choices have run out by 2:30pm? Poor food Management!

Food great, service so so great. Really slow. Staff chatting when our plates needed to be taken. We had to ask the guy that bought our desserts to take the plates from our main courses! Main ladies toilet our of use, so u used the disabled one. I used the last piece of toilet paper, so as someone was outside when I came out I said excuse me, just to let you know you are out of toilet paper, omg if looks could kill, they seemed put out because I interrupted their chat! It's a shame, we really enjoyed the meal, just really bad service.

The food was good as usual, not a long waiting time, both had mixed grills all very tasty. We ate outside because we had our dog. The garden is a disgrace, the grass is long and overdue a cut also the patio area has not been cleaned for quite a long time as rubbish etc blowing around, it could all be cleaned up + made to look nice in a day by a couple of people. A few pots of flowers too would brighten patio area up with colour for the summer.

From my experience of the Red Lion I can only say we have had some lovely meals.We have been there at least four times in the last month or so and it has been a very enjoyable experience.The management are on the ball, the service by their excellent waitresses has been slick and very pleasant.My wife and I eat out a lot and we have had much worse meals and service at vastly higher prices.The Red Lion offers a great deal for food offering, value for money and pleasant service.Well done to all the team.

It was last day of term, a Friday and only 1 person behind the bar, taking food orders and serving drinks. The chef was helping bring out the meals. Very pushy about the coronavirus rules which is understandable but it felt like a telling off at school more than a be safe talk, other than that the waitress was extremely polite and helpful and the food and drink came quickly and without fault. I would highly recommend a visit here and will be visiting in the near future also.

Great food and bar staff. The downsides are they only sell coke zero or diet coke, which was not pointed out when I ordered a coke. Also the pool table is very substandard. Everything else was really good, just such a shame for this pub not to get the smallest of things right. I really hope that you have read this and do something about it.

20 Friends & I went there yesterday evening. The manager was a temporary person, who had arrived that day. But she was very helpful, & offered alternatives, when certain meals were unavailable. My meal of chicken & mushrooms in a stilton sauce, was lovely.

Absolutely amazing as usual. We had one sons wedding reception here on the 14th March 2015 and also had Mother's Day the next day here. Came back yesterday to celebrate their 1st wedding anniversary yesterday. Dion and his staff where fantastic again. The food was excellent and again nothing was too much trouble. It is what it is, cheap food. Not always the best service, but then you aren't paying for the best when you come here. Some of the staff are lovely and very helpful, others believe it's a chore to have to actually be helpful or even serve a customer. But as I said, you aren't paying for top class and you definitely won't get it. Oh and the last time I was here, I asked for a small change to an item on the menu.. being allergic to cheese, I asked for it to be removed. Oh dear god, you would have thought I'd asked for the heavens to clear the sky to allow the sun to shine. The effort the woman made out of a little request was unbelievable... I nearly got the point of preferring a hospital visit. Now when I say effort, I'm not saying she was helpful.. her effort was to make it as complicated as possible. it took nearly 10 minutes to order a burger without cheese. Mr M xXx

Went there for a quick lunch as usually it's good there. The mains were very good and filling but after asking twice for my little boys ice-cream and being told that it was on its way we had to leave as we couldn't wait any longer. Quite frustrating since we paid for it in advance.

This is part of the Sizzler chain of pubs, so you know it's good reasonably priced food. You get massive plates of yummy food for a good price. For example a mixed grill is £8.99. Family atmosphere too so good place to go with children. Only downside for us was the wait for food was a bit too long at 40 mins and when the food dis come out, the childrens meals came, then 1 adult meal followed 5 mins later and the other adult meal 5 mins after that which isnt great. Other than that, great meal

The food and drink here is competively priced and has value for money. Has a range of beers and ales. A beer & burger is about £6.50. Can't complain for that sort of money. Bar staff are always helpful and friendly. However, if you're after silver service etc etc it is about a 30-45 second walk away from the St. Helena restaurant which is the number 1 rated restaurant in Bedford (on Trip Advisor) which is equally competitive at about £45 for 2 courses ;-)

I waited at the bar for 10 minutes. staff came and went. they saw me but didn't even acknowledge my existence. they only needed to say "I'll be with you in a minute or two" but they chose to ignore me. they carried on serving the regulars around the corner. they came to my side of the bar to pick up drinks from the fridge, then headed back to the other part. ( continuing to ignore me).eventually I went round to the other part of the bar and asked if anyone could come to serve me as I had been stood there for so long. I was told that I needed to be where THEY were serving in order to get served.( the bar has two parts that are on right angles to each other. ) I was then served very brusquely by the bar maid , who neither looked me in the eye, apologised, nor managed any kind of smile, however insincere it may have been. if I were her manager, I would certainly tell her to change her attitude. she was not alone, as the other serving staff also had plenty of opportunity to serve me but chose not to. maybe its because I'm not regular enough. with service like that, I'm not likely to be.

We ate after 8 in the bar, which was a bit of a mistake as it was getting a bit loud - football on the TV pumped through the pub's sound system. Punters were also getting loud and lairy too. A great Birthday Lunch! Popped in here for a birthday lunch with my Son and Mum. Mum had fish & Chips, my son had some sort of double burger and I had macaroni cheese and I have to say that all the food was great, very tasty! For dessert Mum had rolo cheesecake, my son had vanilla icecream with chocolate sauce and I had Banoffee profiteroles, all delicious! Very impressed with all the meals and drinks and the very reasonable prices. We will definitely be back!
