Thoroughly enjoyed our evening in James St - it was the best dining experience of our trip! We had been looking forward to this dinner as we had a few hit n miss dinners over the course of our trip back to Belfast. We were not disappointed and had the most fabulous evening. We were greeted and seated quickly. The place is lovely and spacious. Busy and ambient. The bar is great and would love to come back just for drinks at the bar sometime. We ordered cocktails immediately. An Irish gin negroni and a traditional old fashioned. My negroni was absolutely excellent. I think the old fashioned could have done with using real sugar cubes and not sugar syrup, but it wasn’t too bad. We were quick to select our wine. We chose a red, the Cline, Old Vine Zinfandel, 2019, a lovely juicy red. To start we had the Ham Hock Terrine with Piccalilli & Champ Bread and some Scallops with pork belly. The ham hock dish was the best ham hock I’ve had. The homemade piccalilli was something else. Really lovely crunchy and spicy sharpened to help cut through the ham hock. And the champ bread was deliciously crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The scallops and pork belly were disappointing as they lacked any salt or real flavour or texture between them. We did still eat it and shared the rest of my ham hock. We both decided to go for the Co. Tyrone 270g Fillet Steak with sides of Champ and Truffle & Parmesan Chips. Red wine jus and peppercorn sauce. These were fantastic steaks. I honestly didn’t think I’d finish mine, but I did. I made the right choice with the jus and the truffle chips. They went so well together, the dryness of the Parmesan and sweet, slightly smokiness of the jus. The steaks were cooked perfectly. One medium and mine medium rare. Fantastic flavouring on the grilled exterior of the steak and lovely texture when you bit through. We both agreed that the champ was the best champ we have ever tasted. It was piping hot, soft, so well flavoured with hot butter melting on the top of the copper serving pot. It really was the most incredible champ. I was too full for dessert. But my pattern ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding Sundae. The team were kind enough to make me an Espresso Martini, which was both decaf and no sugar syrup. It was brilliant. We both managed to work our way though a surprisingly light sticky toffee Sunday dessert. The team were fantastic. Very friendly and chatty to us. The bar team did not stop, I was lucky enough to face them And watch them make a great array of drinks and cocktails. The waiting staff were also very friendly when serving and checking in on us at convenient points to make sure we were ok. We felt very well looked after. The service was paced very well, we didn’t feel rushed by anything, it felt like such a leisurely treat of a time in this restaurant. When we do come back to Belfast we will absolutely be back again. And we will most definitely be recommending to others. Thanks team.

Had a lovely wedding Anniversary meal at James St. very welcoming hosts right from the start and nothing was too much trouble. Courses were served in great time and very well presented. I would have given 5 Stars if Guiness was from a Draught and not Cans and also served in 2 different Glasses neither of which were Guiness Glasses. Minor for some but verging on criminal for others. The food was amazing and in perfect portions. We will be back for sure. Thanks for a memorable night

Staff were lovely. Went for set menu which was nice but overall a little under whelming. Beetroot goats cheese starter had nice flavours to provide kick. Busy night coming up to Christmas, we were still seated quickly, service and food brilliant from first to last course. Really worth the visit. One note if you are a wheelchair user let the staff know on booking and they will ensure you have an excellent table.

Great service, fantastic food and decent selection of wine and beer. Would definitely visit again. The Hannan's salt aged sirloin was fantastic! I had crab on toast with brown crab mayo to start, salt aged sirloin with blue cheese sauce and chips for main, and Baked Alaska for dessert. All were excellent!

Was walking past on way to having a drink in the perch but the smell coming from the kitchen meant we couldn't but ask if a table was available. Great smell of bbq. Not having a booking it didn't look likely but we got a table nonetheless. Lovely dinner. Actually enjoyed it so much I forgot to take a photo. Fillet steak was lovely. Really enjoyed the pea soup. Small issue with my son's steak but was rectified and unexpected deduction made from bill as an apology. Mainly couples. All the food looked great. Toilets upstairs but I think there is a lift too. Absolutely wonderful staff - friendly, attentive and very professional.

What a gem of a place! The service at the door was very great, they quickly seated us and ran through the specials! We ordered Dark and stormy cocktails which were delicious. We opted for the steak special which tasted amazing and was cooked to perfection! We decided to have a look at the dessert menu even though I have intolerances to dairy and egg (which pretty much rules out any desserts anywhere I go) to my surprise they had 2 amazing sounding desserts! (again delicious) Credit to the chef and all staff here, we can't wait to come back!

Fine, for fine dining. Pictured is the salted chili squid which cost around £8.00. Service was a bit slow for 5pm on a Saturday before Christmas. Service charge is 10% and is automatically added to the bill for all diners. Fillet steak was really good. It was £34 without a side £4.00 and another £3.80 service charge. This put a steak and fries dinner at over £41.00. Overall 4/5 stars

Went for our wedding anniversary. We had been before around 3 years perviously and it has kept its good name. We were given a complimentary drink on arrival to celebrate. We had 3 courses each. Both had steak- delicious. The only thing we did both say was that the baked alaska was way too big! Others might not find that to be a bad thing.

I really wanted to love this place. It looked so cool from the outside and a great vibe inside split between restaurant side and more informal bar side. The menu is a great mix of seafood, hearty fare, steak and I had the most delicious Duck Ragu. A great wine list, with a wonderful selection by the glass. The service however completely ruined the experience. I was dining solo as I was in Belfast for work and totally ignored from arrival to leaving. I waited far too long with three members of staff passing me at the entrance. I was told there would be a wait for a seat; when I pointed out all the empty tables I was seated at one. It took far too long before anyone then came to the table, no water and by this point I had ample time to pick food but had no wine list so that had to come later. Once I’d finished the meal I was asked if I wanted to see the dessert menu. 10 minutes later I tried to track someone down instead for the bill so I could just leave... In fairness to manager she took 50% off the bill. I want to almost increase to 4 stars but I overheard another table having to wait a while too so it didn’t seem to be a one off. She was lovely, but didn’t appreciate how other staff treated me.

This is in my opinion one of the best restaurants Belfast has to offer if you want perfectly grilled meat. I ordered the dry aged sirloin with mushroom sauce with some chips and it was amazing. The steak was cooked medium rare and it was one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. Although the place is a little pricey, it is definitely worth a visit every once in a while for special occasions.

We had visited this restaurant a number of years ago and had a great meal so we wanted to return on this visit to Belfast with one adult son. The experience did not disappoint. We arrived a bit early and waited in the bar. We had a delightful conversation with a couple of the bar staff and ended up sampling a couple of their signature cocktails which were quite good. The service was attentive, helpful and efficient and the various food items we had were all excellent!

Best meal we had on our trip. Service was better than 5 stars. Accidently sat at the posh restaurant next door. Told the hostess there we wanted steak. She lead us to the bar and grill and asked the host there to seat us. Ask for the mushroom sauce.

Nice food, lovely presentation, but sometimes the menu doesn't quite tell the whole story. On a recent trip, 2 of our party ordered chateaubriand (for 2) which came with a green drizzle neither wanted nor saw anywhere on the menu - which was a shame as it had been cooked perfectly (rare). We both felt it detracted from the dish. For dessert, another of our party ordered baked Alaska. It was served with red berries which were neither wanted (she hates berries) nor mentioned in the menu. A refund for the dessert was given when we mentioned this though (as the server checked and this was not mentioned on the menu). When paying top dollar for food, you expect lovely food - which was indeed the case. However, the menu just needs to double-checked for accuracy. I'd advise checking with the server on exactly how things are cooked and with which sauces etc they are served. I'd have given 3 and a half stars if I could!

So I am home visiting my parents and family and we popped down for a meal for my husband’s birthday and the food was just lovely. I had the champ bread to start and the burger for main and I was not disappointed. My other half had the steak and it was also absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was lovely and I did enjoy having my first Pavlova in at least 15 years. I was very impressed how they managed to get a keep a great atmosphere alive whilst having all the necessary Covid measures in place. I shall definitely visit again.

For a special occasion or a romantic meal, Jame Street Bar & Grill is a fantastic option. The staff are fantastic and the food is always great. We were even offered to give feedback on the recently added baked sweet potato to the chef that we asked as part of a meal. It's small moments like that make it a great dining experience.

Food was nice, but I asked for my steak to have no blood and the stake arrive practically raw. Ate it as I didn't want to cause a fuss. Tables are extremely close together so couldn't talk to each unless you wanted the two tables beside you to hear everything. 10% tip was added to the bill, but the service wasn't that great especially when the cheif couldn't cook the stake correctly. 29 pounds for a piece of meet and chips seemed dear. Didn't see what the fuss was about. Overpriced, cramped and just okay food.

Great food. Loved the food. It was what I would call a fusion of authentic irish dish but wih a twist. The chowder had plenty of seafood in it. In fact, every spoonful contained a good amount of seafood. I also had a fish fillet. There were 2 nice sized pieces. They were done to perfection. The sauce was savory with scallops and wine . The fried calamari finished off the presentation. The service was impeccable.

Attended the cookery school for the new to the kitchen class. It was fantastic. The head chef Niall is a great teacher, good fun and down to earth with such a passion for what he does. The food was delicious, simple veg soup, the most delicious roast chicken that was so tender and a dessert of apple charlotte that was so easy to make but tasted yum. I'd recommend a class here and can't wait to try the professionals' food in the restaurant!

Attended the 'Cook a perfect Steak' course hosted by proprietor Niall. Wonderful Christmas present idea! Niall is a great communicator and a consummate chef. Intimate experience with just 10 of us. He does a wonderful job keeping his eye on how people are getting on and advising. In addition to preparing our lovely Hannan Steaks, we made 2 accompanying sauces, a Pepper and a Bearnaise and recieved a helpful summary of all info and recipes. Made nice little salad dressings for our mini salad and potato salad and when we sat down to eat our finished products, fries arrived magically from the kitchen and accompanying wine was served. The cookery school is transferring to the Cathedral Quarter in May and a new purpose built conversion is ongoing. I hope this goes well for this talented couple (his wife is their business director) and look forward to dining in James St again!

I booked the private room upstairs to celebrate a 40th birthday for a party of x25. I dealt with Maire Claire in the weeks leading up and she was extremely helpful in arranging a set menu and wine to suit everyone. The meal was fantastic especially the deserts. Richie and his team did an amazing job looking after all of us and they didn’t appear to blink an eye when happy birthday was sung numerous times! The room was a perfect size for our group. I highly recommend the private room at James St if you are looking to get a crowd together to enjoy excellent food, wine and laughter! Well done to all the team at James St and love your new refurb 👏
