Reviews of Muriel's Cafe Bar

Great place for drinks in a cosy interior. We also ordered burgers from Pablos next door.
D. T.
Always a must visit when in Belfast - fantastic service and great cocktails. We'll be back.
N. H.
Compact bar with outdoor seating. Serves a small selection of draught beer, the real attraction is the cocktails. Their speciality is gin based cocktails. Quirky decoration of the interior.
H. M.
Prices have gone up and the quality of the cocktails have gone down. Used to be my favourite bar but will have to find another cocktail place. None of my old favs are on the menu anymore, it's a shame.
N. H.
The history of gin cocktails night @ Muriels bar, Belfast. What a fantastic evening! Samples of many gin cocktails presented by a great team and a few nibbles from Pablos next door as well!! Throughly recommend the bar and the tasting evening are exceptional.
R. W.
Fantastic drinks and catchup with my friend here last night. Couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Had the most delicious coconut margarita! 🥥 🍹
P. S.
Go learn a thing or two about gin. The best bartenders in Belfast. Even if you think you hate gin, they have one you'll love.
M. B.
Best gluten free burger I have ever had. Staff helpful. Had to wait awhile due to it being so busy
G. M.
One of my favourite bars in Belfast. Relaxed atmosphere during the day, great service, amazing cocktails (can make the bar slightly slower in the evenings). All-round great LGBT-friendly bar!
G. B.
Had an Irish coffee, best drink ever invented - fact.
Nice atmosphere, friendly bar staff. Definitely recommend it. Will drop in again next time I'm in Belfast.
D.
One of my favourite bars in Belfast. Vast selection of Gins available and the cocktails are good. Staff have always been friendly and are very knowledgeable.
S. M.
The staff were very friendly, and drinks were a reasonable price (£9.50 for most cocktails).
G. W.
Lush I love this place .very like a boutique. Sells beers but best for cocktails. great atmosphere. Please take time to visit this place even just once. I'm sure you'll go back
A. A.
Lovely place, we enjoyed a quiet few drinks before heading home

Lovely bar with fantastic cocktails
R. E.
Great little quirky spot. Amazing selection of gin and friendly knowledgeable bar staff
K. T.
We randomly stopped here whilst looking to quench our thirst. The bartender was extremely polite and friendly answering all our questions and explaining why all the bra and panties are everywhere (not that I was complaining).
Most importantly the cider and wine was cold and went down beautifully 😉
We was a little sad that we didnt have time to check out the food but we'll definitely stop by again if we're ever in the area.
R. D.
Wee cozy bar with amazing cocktails.
🍸🍹🥃
Would highly recommend trying there espresso martini.
E. L.
Love Muriel's great atmosphere, fab cocktails and the food is fab and great for sharing
T. K.
Great choice of cocktails and gin. Staff really show how to mix a drink and at at a reasonable price. Highly recommend a visit.
V. W.
Not been there before nice surprise very upmarket and interesting
A. C.
Loved it, small and intimate, so relaxing and in the heart of Belfast too! Will be back
J. T.
Great staff friendly loved watching them making cocktails definitely a tarts boudoir.
L. M.
Great drinks and always a fantastic vibe
P. B.
Very popular bar with locals and tourists. Try the Short Cross Gin, local to Belfast.
Have had food in the past, recommenced
C. M.
Delicious cocktails, we had the rhubarb martini and Belfast mule... would recommend both!!
C. V.
It's one of Belfast's hidden gems. Great spot for after works drinks, and great food as well. It is small, but cosy is a great description. Great drink selection as well. Only criticism I could add, and I'm being picky here, is patio heaters for outside seating is a must in Belfast winters
C. B.
Lovely cocktails, authentically made. Little pricey, but friendly staff.
T. H.
If you don’t come here for a cocktail you’re making a big mistake. Delicious drinks and staff are super sound
w. w.
Cocktails were pretty good! Nice cosy bar with good service.
P. A. P.
Small bar where drinks are carefully served. Music not so carefully served though.
W. B.
Great setting, lovely ambiance. Helpful pleasant staff
M. P.
OK. Nice spot to bring ur bit on de side to! 😘

Absolutely love the atmosphere and drinks here. Staff are lovely. Maybe could do with a tiny bit more alcohol haha
J. R.
Looking something quirky it's definitely worth a visit. Some special drinks found and great for a gin. More than one floor so be sure to take a walk around. Not a big place but great for fee drinks before heading on. If doing a pub crawl it's also worth popping in.
J. E.
Muriel's is a fantastic spot to relax and chat with friends. I was there on a Sunday evening. The music was at a reasonable volume, so it was easy to talk without shouting. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I will definitely frequent the place more often.
T. K.
Very nice atmosphere and the staff was super friendly and a huge assortments on gins
G. K.
Quirky bar, very popular, especially with the recent gin resurgence, as this place stocks over 100 types. Cocktails are great, but as they're made by hand, be aware you might be waiting a little while.
Also, single guys, try to arrive in groups. There are a lot of bras and panties hanging from the ceiling. It's hard to not look like a pervert if you arrive on your own and stare 😂
N.
Really nice cocktails, lovely during the day too, sun shines directly on the outdoor seating which makes the drinks extra enjoyable. Also has a really nice cosy upstairs area which is nice for a quiet midweek drink in the winter.
L. W.
Cosy little place and quirky decor but service a bit slow or had ages to wait as it takes time to make cocktails. I only wanted a glass of wine but when there are six people in front of you wanting an array of different cocktails... A nightmare to wait behind! Still worth a visit (especially if you are ok paying Belfast's "cashing in" prices) kerching!
D. K.
Very vibrant and cosy. Upstairs has a Victorian Bohemian feel complete with vintage furniture and fittings.
Can be very busy and crowded which means usually only trying on a quieter night or earlier in the evening ahead of the crowds.
Friends who are gin drinkers enjoyed their gins and flights. Meanwhile I enjoyed their beers which cover the bases.
m.
Great place for a irish coffee!
N. F.
The food was delicious, service was brilliant and we will definitely be back. It is small and cosy, the menu is quite small but what is on the menu is all yummy. We had 5 different dishes in our party, and all 5 plates were empty at the end, not one bite left! Great atmosphere 10/10
K. R.
Muriel's is fantastic - great bar for the gin lover, but many other signature cocktails. Excellent food, too - while I like hanging at the bar on the 1st floor, I prefer visiting for drinking and dining, and going to the 2nd floor. Absolutely charming and just lovely.
T. L.
A fairly quintessential Cathedral quarter bar with Victorian trappings and lots of velvet. The staff can be a bit pretentious, but the drinks are strong and tasty. The crowd gets rowdy later in the night. For some reason I am attracted to tropical drinks in Belfast, and the dark and stormy here was top notch. The gin bar vibe is a bit played in my opinion, but it feels more genuine here than elsewhere.
M. W.
Great Jawbox gin, accommodating barman after I asked for something local (but had Nordes and Four Pillars, so was difficult to stay true!). Didn't need the offered too-sweet tonic: this gin stands well on its own.
M. D.
Lovely bar for gin enthusiasts. Great feel to the place and quirky with the bras and knickers hanging from the ceiling. I had the local jawbone gin with honeycomb, which I can thoroughly recommend. My wife had the Guinness with sloe gin, also a winner.
P. M.
Nice gin bar in Belfast city centre. They have good bartenders who will make you a gin to your flavour depending on what tastes you like. They used to do the local gin jawbox with homemade honeycomb but unfortunately don't do it any more which is a shame as it was probably the best drink.
R. B.
Lovely food friendly staff and great atmosphere even in these times of social distancing.
O. C.
This is a lovely quirky bar. Very comfortable upstairs but all of the tables were reserved. Staff were nice and let us sit at a table until the people who reserved it arrived. The menu looked nice but we didn't eat on this occasion and prob won't as it was quite pricy
A. E.
It's a classic bar where they serve foods upstairs. It's usually crowded but there is a nice sitting area outside where you have a good vista of the Church Lane. It's a friendly environment, and usually not very noisy since it is not very big.
K. K.
I've been here at this nice wee establishment a few times now but on one particular occasion there was this doorman with greasy hair who gave me the heebie jeebies as he walked over to me a few times of the night and said and did weird things like nudge me and point to women and say ohhh she's dangerous. I can't seem to escape this insane mental patient as he's been in other bars and even a food outlet and he did the same thing there does he work in these places or just stand there being weird and harassing customers. I do enjoy the cocktails and service of this place though the toilets scare me especially the 6 foot bearded man with the with the bumps on his head that stands there sometimes asking me if I want to make a trade
M. N.
The atmosphere is good, the drinks are really expensive, it really is a millennial minefield, but I did enjoy a couple here before moving on elsewhere. Might return but definitely not for a non-special occasion.
D. J. (.
Great place to visit for an evening drink. I love gin, and this place has the best selection in Belfast. Their Jawbox and honeycomb mix is to die for, and something I now replicate with friends further afield.
I always make an effort to visit when I am in town, and am always happy to bring friends.
K. M. (. R. W. B.
I went to Belfast for the first time this weekend, and Muriel's was the quirkiest place we came across. The story goes that it was once owned by a lady of the night, Muriel, and today, sexy underwear hangs on a make-shift washing line stretching across the ground floor, with a neon sign in the background reading 'Wait here, I've gone for help'. Even the toilets are racy - decked out in images of scantily clad women - while the upstairs bar is decked out with plush seating, velvet cushions and big lampshades, just like a boudoir
E. M.
Had food which was delicious and stayed for a good few hours. Upstairs where there was music in the background but you could still have a conversation without having to shout. Excellent service. Will be back to eat and drink.
A. L.
Came for breakfast on Sunday morning, had the best home made hash browns ever! The service from the staff was also brilliant. Would love to come back in the evening, for drinks. The decor is brilliant!
D. H.
More of a cocktail bar so be prepared to wait for your order. Shouldn't put you off as the friendly staff, vintage interior and good craic more than make up for it. Nice to sit outside and watch the world go by with company and a drink.
P. D.
Great little spot, wonderful atmosphere and decor. Had several cocktails and they were all superb, will definitely be back if I'm in Belfast again
C. L.
From london, excellent cocktails, made with precision and care. Washed the measures before making which always goes a long way with the more delecate spirits. Extensive gin collection and some interesting spirts
H. P.
Friendly service and tasty, good value food.
W. P.
Probably the best cocktail bar you'll find in Belfast. The service was incredible and the gin selection will make you question everything you know about spirits.
c. l.
Great staff and wonderful setting
B. B.
One of my favourite places or should that be Palace as in gin Palace. Having said that it is a small Palace for Muriels who worked day and night to make ends meet. They serve a great selection of gins and the knowledgeable staff will advise on the perfect serve. There is a selection of tonics and you can specify your own mix if you prefer.
Alas they no longer serve honeycomb with Jawbox so explore the rest of the menu. They also serve beer and food - don't get distracted from your mission.
M. H.
Great place for cocktails that my wife thoroughly enjoyed. I stuck to beer . Some one has to be sensible. Very helpful staff.
M. M. A.
Brilliant wee spot with one superb rhubarb flavour gin cocktail ❤️
D. C.
Not just a normal gin bar. One of the best bars in Belfast, although very busy. Only 4 stars as a seat can be hard to get.
P. C.
Good atmosphere, cosie, experienced and knowledge bartenders/mixologists. The cocktail list is extensive, and there are food options available including the option to order from the adjacent burger restaurant Pablos.
D. R.
Great cocktails at a reasonable price, the old fashioned is a favourite of mine! you'll struggle to get a seat though it's gets very busy, can also order food from Pablos next door!
E. H.
Have a martini, they’re superb! Liked the theme but to my opinion they could work it out even more. Maybe less spots on the ceiling and more cosy lights, like the red light in the back!
D. W.
Smallest bar ever..but I love it. Despite being small has a great selection of drinks and their cocktails are very I pressure with fresh fruit and mint leaves they won't disappoint.
J. A.
Fantastic range of quality gins
S. M.
Muriel’s is a brilliant spot and staff (especially Grainne) great- friendly, helpful and attentive. Food great- fresh, well presented and lots of choices. A very busy spot but never neglected or disappointed 👏👏👏
r. r.
Great atmosphere that you can't find anywhere else. Unique cocktails and friendly staff. Great place for dinner and night out 👍
E. M.
Probably the best Gin/Cocktail bar in Belfast
L. F.
Loved this place. Must try the 'Flaming Zombie' cocktail!!
P. M.
One of the best small bars in the country never mind the city, great atmosphere, very knowledgeable staff on were there drinks are from and how to serve them, also a hidden gem for a lovely meal.a great place to take people if you want them to get the most out of a night out in Belfast for sure.😀
P. F.
Great spot. Staff are friendly helpful and quick. Food really tasty, good portion sizes. Had a table booked for 3 hours which was fantastic. Definitely a 10 outta 10...
A. T.
Nice place. Good food and quirky space. Not much seating my and can get very busy. Get there early for a table. Good local atmosphere
E. J. C.
Small and expensive, but what a great place. A lovely unique spot with Pablos beside it if you need something to eat, which you can bring into muriels. Which is always handy if on the sess! No live music or djs, sadly it is too small for to fit them in! But don't let that stop you!
Great for an end of the night cocktails, again though expensive, it is the end of the night! You may as well splash out!
R. K.
Was here for a few hours when I was up in belfast with the other half. Staff are so friendly. Especially Pauline. She let me try the beer before I bought it which was really nice of her. Will be here again if I'm ever in belfast.
M. A.
Funky bar which does good food too! Really lovely decor, dark and inviting. Friendly staff and a good gin menu, what's not to like!
N. K.
I've been several times and always enjoyed. Found it a bit odd when I the took some visiting family for 1 drink at 5 30 on a Wednesday afternoon and although we were served when staff saw we had an11 year old with us we were told we could only stay for 1 drink and shouldn't have been served at all ?
T. J.
Brilliant cocktails and a staff were amazing 👏 👌
