Reviews of The Great Room Restaurant, Belfast

I was blown away by the sublime decor. The food was absolutely fantastic. I personally recommend the duck and the chocolate “gâteau”. The only negative thing is that I felt judged for my presence in this luxurious environment…

We visited here almost 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon and had planned have lunch here, but just know the only served afternoon tea at this time .So we tried the traditional afternoon with earl grey and cocktail as well flat white. The desserts and sandwiches are the same either you ordered is tea or wine .The sandwiches were incredible delicious which beyond my expectations. And we were treated with the utmost courtesy by the staffs. All the staffs are attentive and knowledgeable. The most important is the setting, which l heard were transformed and decorated from a band, was really definitely fabulous and beautiful, just like sitting in a castle. However, you may visit in other times if you want to try the main courses rather than a afternoon tea.

Absolutely fabulous. I was here with a group of friends for New Year’s Eve night for some fine dining. The atmosphere was great. Really relaxed. Staff were pleasant. A beautiful restaurant in the merchant hotel. I’m a regular so I will definitely be returning.

We visited for afternoon tea. The Great Room is amazing inside, such a beautiful setting. The service was exemplary, all the staff super friendly and attentive. The tea itself was lovely, great scones and nice sandwiches. The assortment of sweet treats was huge!

Came here for lunch; the 3 course menu is an incredible value. I never dreamed I could eat so well in such a beautiful setting for what we paid. The service is on point too; our waiter Dovy was very charismatic and gave excellent advice helping us pick a wine.

Had breakfast here as part of my stay at The Merchant. The vegan breakfast options were very good. I chose the mushroom bruschetta and it was amazing! I would definitely recommend it. We chose to come back for lunch and they were again very accommodating with plant-based options. We received a plant-based appetiser which was delicious. I chose the Provençal vegetable tart as my main and it was exquisite. The service at both breakfast and lunch was fantastic, very attentive and couldn’t be more accommodating to my dietary needs. Amazing experience and I hope to try the vegan afternoon tea sometime in the near future!

I was dining there with my wife on her's birthday. It was a wonderful experience. The staff is very polite, friendly and is doing a great job. The food quality matches the 5 star hotel level and to our positive surprise, portions are bigger than expected. It is worth the money. When you sit in this room, it feels like in the beginning of the 20th century, very classic and imposant. I can highly recommend this restaurant and we will definetely come back, maybe next time we will also rent a room for a night.

We stayed in the merchant hotel for a night and made use of the “bed and breakfast” offer which allowed us to have a three course meal in the great room. Please be aware that the menu you receive is a “residents menu” with around 2 options for starter, main and dessert which we honestly struggled to pick which we liked and just had to settle for what sounded the most pleasant. Sides were not included and so we ended up paying £16 for two portions of mash and a bottle of water which is understandable in a fine dining restaurant but surely a side should be included in the price considering the menu is so limited. We were served by the loveliest waiter Shea who was so attentive and polite. He went over and beyond for us and was just absolutely wonderful. Thanks Shea!

The foods are good and the staff are very nice and friendly. The place was also excellent, with lots of ornates very good for taking photos

An arguably flawless dining experience, in stunning surroundings, rounded off by having the best cocktail lounge in Belfast adjacent.
The tasting menus change frequently and the wine pairings are ridiculously good. Service staff are like 18th century children, seen but not heard, though with an almost telepathic powers.
The food is consistently brilliant. It's one of the few restaurants I will order things I (believe) I don't like, offal amongst other things, knowing the chef will change my mind.
