My partner & i was at the National yesterday for the first time. We called in for a quick drink. So glad now that we did. This place has a real "London" vibe about it. Very spacious airy cool retro vibe 😎. The staff where all very friendly. They explained to us there is 5 different bars above them. Including a rooftop bar 🙈🙉🙊 Will definitely be calling back here for a visit to check out the rest of the bars....so yes "The only way is up" 👌 😉
S. R.
Great food and reasonable priced. Friendly service. Would highly recommend trying the Korean Chicken Sandwich.
L. M.
Amazing service and great iron work on the roof and the outside garden. Very well styled. The food was 👍... Will visit again
N. M.
Decent selection of beers and food looked great although I wasn't eating. Seems to be a good spot for a brunch.. Was busy and the place is light and airy.. Great outside space for summer too.
J. D.
Great bar! Few different bars within the building Nice covered outside area. There was a DJ in the corner of it when we were there. Separate smoking area also. Plenty of seating. Bar service was prompt. Plenty of staff
B. W.
Nicely refurbished, good coffee and a simple but effective breakfast
S. P.
A lovely place with a beautiful woody-green ambience. I visited for brunch and the place was indeed packed! Their food and coffee are also YUM! A must visit place.
T. K.
Delightful service. Very versatile premises open from early am to late night. Good breakfast menu, nice coffee. We had lunch and breakfast at 1145. I can't eat lettuce so the tapas were a bit bare for me, but very tasty indeed. Extremely enjoyable.
R. D.
Killer breakfast in a nice upscale restaurant. Very generous with the bacon side as you can see in the pic. Filter coffee takes around 10mins to make but is definitely worth it!
M. J.
Great vibes, smashing full breakfast with a coffee while we waiting for our bus and ferry back to Glasgow. Would love to come back for a pint.
B. N.
Beautiful cafe, the best vanilla latte ever and the cafe is also named after my favourite band :)
t. h.
Food was soooo delicious! I had the eggs florentine ( the bread was heavenly ) and hubby had the vegetarian brekkie. Both of they were spot on. Our coffees were 👌🏻🙌🏻.
Loved the vibe and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this place.
T. Y.
Amazing Saturday late-afternoon to 1am drinking. In their cosy outdoor beer garden (with DJ-ed music). 'Craic' (as the locals would say!). Chicken tenders went down a treat, too (to soak up some booze!). Staff were nice too (one guy kindly charged our phone!... and there was one particularly nice guy working there - uni student from Slovenia forget his name).Thoroughly enjoyed. RECOMMEND.
S. S.
Lively vibe, live music on our visit.
Toilets a bit of a trek, but otherwise fine.
L. H.
Great beer garden. Always good live music playing. Good staff. Love going here.
K. N. (.
crowded and a little too loud for a pub, especially on a Saturday night... takes longer to get a drink than to finish it! but the upstairs section (ie the nightclub) gets pretty happening once it opens. strangely though, the bar in the garden area is slightly cheaper than the bar in the front.
A. D.
This is definitely worth a visit especially on a sunny Saturday afternoon great atmosphere and staff in the beer garden & the entertainment was a real treat we'll definitely be back.
W. M. M.
Good food, friendly staff, quick service and reasonably priced
T. R.
Quite a young crowd.Went to the Curry fundraiser for Ukraine - simple flavours, good atmosphere
Z.
Bar staff are fantastic. Great live music. Back of sinks are black with dirt 🤢
L. O. H.
The waffles were very good *mic drop*
We had breakfast there and the atmosphere is very good for just popping in for a chill breakfast. The waiters were friendly too.
G. M.
The drinks are very overpriced but the mixers are seriously far too expensive,£2.85 for a soda water, unbelievable! Any wonder the place was empty
G. P.
I can say without fear of contradiction that I've just had the best scrambled eggs and chives with wholemeal toast that I've had in a very very long time and I include the 34 countries I've been in during the last 24 months in that assessment. The property is pristine. Clean as a whistle, the staff are a joy, the facilities spotless, there's a garden and the eating area is spacious but comfortable. The lady who looked after my needs requires special mention as Lauren's friendly demeanour and helpfulness is a lesson in excellence for the profession. Thanks The National ! See you next time. Great place for a quick bite or coffee. Very modern and trendy. It s accessible to everyone: wheelchair, strollers, and any other wheeled buggy. It is a historic building that has been restored and updated. You can come in for a drink, for food, or coffee. Fergus was especially helpful. He explained what he knew about the building and the coffee. He added a lovely memory to our quick trip in Belfast. The staff were all friendly and courteous.
D. D. A.
One of the best of its kind. The cafe-bar with a a personality and when I think of Belfast, it’s among the top 5-10 places that come to mind.
T. O.
Really well laid out and great service. Limited drink and food menu at the mo but having a vegan option was great.
K. 6.
Great alternative breakfast/brunch menu. I had pancakes with scrambled eggs and maple bacon. Staff were friendly and easily accomodated our group of 11. Was reasonably priced too. Would eat there again.
A. W.
Great beer garden for those who like outdoor seating. Good music as well. Negatives are ladies toilets up some very steep stairs. Also rain very heavy that day. Gutters were overflowing. Getting kinda wet!
D. K.
For brunch or coffee the National is a great place to take someone. You can usually get a table as soon as you walk in, or after just a short wait at busier times. The food is lovely and very filling, and being able to have various craft beers or other drinks with it, or just cofee and tea, is great.
For drinking it is often ram packed and hard to get in/get to the bar. But if it is less busy it has a great beer garden out back. A great place to go to (early!) if Belfast has any sunny summer nights
J. M.
Love the place. The atmosphere is great, live music, good beer and it's clean.
I. f.
had a brunch. order vegan breakfas. food and coffee was lovely.. and the ambiance is cozy
G. M.
Only popped in to the beer garden for a few pints with good company. Can't really say I liked it with overpriced beer and average music. Seems a place to go to look beautiful and contemporary. But to add insult they were serving beer in plastic American pint glasses so we didn't even get a full overpriced pint. Manager accepted the issue, claimed ignorance, and continued to use the glasses. Strangely our next pint was served in real glasses.
L.
Great place would call in for breakfast quite often. Now even better after refurbishment
K. S.
Loved the outside area. Spacious and well heated we had a ball
H. A.
Really enjoy a few drinks in here on a Saturday night !
K. W.
Amazing Sunday lunch! In Belfast for weekend from UK and lucky to find this place that did a Sunday roast.
S.
Had a delicious Japanese whiskey (suntory Harmony) and they have a very extensive list of other tasty shorts. I've also enjoyed their orange liqueur hot chocolate.
O. M.
Big up Adam behind the bar. A master of his craft, a master pourer of draught. Guinness running through the taps, ice running through his veins. His conversations rich and enamouring like a perfect pint.
D. H.
Nice atmosphere but lager and stout more expensive here then many other places in Belfast
D. S.
Food was delicious, service was ridiculously slow, I aged 6 months waiting for a flat white.
T. H.
Went there for breakfast/lunch. They do a few things really well, particularly the coffee, chips and mac and cheese bites. The chips were absolutely delicious and my oat milk latte was one of the nicest I’ve ever had. Really good. My veggie fry was a bit of a let down, smoked beetroot was nice but sausages, mushroom and bread was a bit meh. In fairness, I’m not a massive fry fan but would probably be a better restaurant for dinner/meat eaters. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend for a quick coffee/snack though!
t. y.
I am a wheelchair users and l usually get discrimination... But l have been on Sunday in there, The manager and me chat up, He is so Presentable, pleasent and polite, He did actually by himself take care of me... He is completely superior... (So kind, best manners)... The door staff (Bouncers)also very kind and true gentleman's... I am sincerely appreciate been there felt really comfortable...Thanks a zillions...
M. M.
Great to be in a proper pub atmosphere again even outside. Lovely beer, live music and plenty of craic. Couldn't ask for more.
B. I.
Stopped by here for a drink. We had hoped to get a table outside given the weather was beautiful and one if the servers was able to get us a table immediately.
Had a lovely drink in a really colourful and spacious beer garden.
J. A.
Great light lunch. Nice beers, friendly staff
P. L.
Best breakfast i had in belfast to date
And waitress was so.polite
B. M.
The National is a great bar. Food, drinks and service all on point.
L.
A great spot for some food and drinks. Our waitress was so helpful with food allergy information and made our meal safe as well as tasty. Great cocktails and live music.
J. C.
Great spot for business breakfast or something a bit more fancy than your standard fry! Highly recommend the waffles!
N. L.
Really friendly staff, good food. A nice place to just sit and enjoy a meal. 🙂
P. S.
Great nightclub open to 3:30 am Fri and Sat night
B. B.
Great for breakfast, well presented and very well cooked. There are cheaper options for food but we keep coming back.
S. B.
Fantastic place for food drinks and music… staff are so friendly….stayed in Belfast for the night … Varia, and Caolan are exceptionally good at their job, great chat and banter with them …. 2 beautiful people… The National… well done on these 2 👌🏻
K. T.
Great bar with live music and different areas
B. L.
Had my first coq burger 🍔 it was ok but try it out for you self
C. H.
Love it, Connor Bray was a fantastic host!
S. T.
Love this place! Stylish and modern inside. Waiting staff very pleasant. Varied but simple lunch menu. Coffee could come in a mug instead of a cup mind. Outside is one of the best gardens in Belfast. I know it's called the National Garden but until recently, I thought it was completely independent of the National itself... a bar all in it's own right! That's how good their garden is.
G. M.
Excellent ... very attentive relaxing experience especially under covid rules.... great 60th birthday drinks and food for my husband... we couldn't fault it ... heat lamps ...all very cosy comfortable atmosphere
S. B.
The staff are very friendly and attentive. I couldn't stress how available they are. One security member of staff was over zealous and was able to destroy the atmosphere for the entire place.
G. J.
We called in looking for live music.we weren't disappointed.the guy singing was first class.im booking a return visit soon
H. M.
Brilliant wee night out with workmates food was lovely and staff really nice.
A. K.
Always a great place for a quick catch-up with friends
S. C.
Place is like a maze, don't know what's going on, but here some crack
T. T.
Chicken burger was tasty, service was fine.
D. D.
The food here is amazing! Went here for lunch and got soup and a sandwich. The soups are not your general vegetable. They had a coconut and coriander and it was gorgeous. The sandwich was really good and I'd definitely be back again. Staff were lovely and it's in a great location. Any one staying in the ramada hotel is virtually round the corner.
p.
Nice beer garden with live music
S. G.
Great bar and beer garden 1st time in it and will definitely will be on my list next time out in the city
A. T.
I gotta say their food is really yummy! Free WiFi for tourist.
L. M.
Fabulous breakfast, relaxed atmosphere and staff are friendly
N. E.
This place is nice for a small cafe. They have a full service bar. The food was okay but really not my taste. But I was hungry and had some time to kill while I waited for a friend.
Really hard to get proper service. Usually only one server at the time I was there around 4pm.
I would suggest when done with meal and ready to leave. Go up to the bar to pay because trying to get the server back is really hard.
A. A.
Went last night after a long time of a proper night out and amazing time. Would definetely go back.
S. R.
The National serves an excellent lunch (or brunch if you're into that sort of thing). The good is interesting, well presented and comes in sensible not too large portions. Very good cocktails are available and a good range of craft beers too.
R. S.
Great food in a very chic looking restaurant. Very varied menu from a full breakfast through to pancake stacks and spicy sausages with hollandaise. The coffees are also very good with different bean choices. Went two days in a row for breakfast which staying in Belfast.
H. A.
I was here for cocktails one evening. The place was packed and so I had to sit outside in the beer garden. I didn't complain because we got a table with a heater. The cocktails were outstanding and they have a great selection. Can't wait to go back and try the food!
C. B.
Irish Breakfast was tasty, a few twists on the traditional which was nice. The location is big and beautiful, probably a fun place to go as a club, wasn't taken aback as a breakfast spot.
J. G.
Very cool, chilled out place. Good age range too. Stand out is the beer garden. Good DJ playing lots of old skool soul/disco tunes, nice food bar selling standard burgers etc, only nicely cooked. Hats off.
S. &. P. M.
Very nice modern decor, friendly and helpful staff. Best hash brown i ever eaten.
N. Q.
Great breakfast food! Staff are friendly and know what they're talking about. During the night the atmosphere is great you get served quickly and the place is clean
P. M.
Our meal was given to the next table. The young lady ate some chips then realised she had the wrong meal. Waiter thought it was ok to life her meal and set it in front of me. I declined.
Our meal was excellent bar the mess up.
J. K.
Upstairs only had cocktails which was a tenner
I. M.
Good all day breakfast
k. r.
Amazing coffee & breakfast, staff were lovely too!
P. A.
Delicious food and friendly service.
P. D.
The decor was typical hipster spot, stripped back walls 'old-school' chairs, warehouse type hanging lights.
Service was good. The food was average. Git the national breakfast. Sausages were under cooked, the crumpet type bread average. The pudding and rasher were nice though.
They brought the coffee and left a large gap before breakfast was served.
P. O.
Nice place. Is a cafe and bar so you can get coffee or alcohol. Also serves food. There's a large beer garden out the back with a second bar as well. Is well located in Cathedral Quarter. Only had a cup of coffee when I was in which was nice. The food looks pretty good as well but would probably be more on the expensive side.
C. F.
Service was good, we were cold outside and the guys were very accommodating and came to put on the extra heaters. Nice buzz and atmosphere although alcohol free selection is very very poor, one type if beer or one type of cocktail :/
C. G.
Have been here before many of times with friends and for first dates. Highly recommended. Great atmosphere with great music and drinks 😊
C. W.
Friendly staff, nice beer garden area, cheap prices and a good central location.
D. L.
We stopped at this place while walking from the downtown shopping to the Titanic exhibit for a beer and the free internet they offered (fast I might add)
Looked like quite the happening place, there were lots of folks there (2-3pm area) and some were eating some drinking.
We had a beer and sampled a couple brands of Scotch and were then on our way but the place was clean and the servers were very attentive
I would have no problem going back here in the future for lunch or something
D. S.
Had a drink in their beer garden recently. A fantastic spot and tables etc all well spaced out. Service was prompt and friendly.
C. B.
Great place to go. 13 of us went there for a stag do. We went there just after lunch and it wasn't too busy. The beer garden is really nice. There also have a roof bar which was nice. Definitely worth trying.
N. M.
Food was nice but selection off alcohol wasn't up too much
P. L.
It's a really nice place, but sometimes service can suffer if it's busy. The staff seem to slowly be learning how to deal with mistakes and problems, but work here is still needed. Don't let that put you off, though; definitely worth the visit and I'm looking forward to my next time.
A. G.
Average experience. The food was good and came relatively timely, however the staff were not polite and the hot chocolate was room temperature at best. I would say it was also overpriced for the quality that was received. The building was interesting though
G. W.
Went to the Thirsty Goat for one drink on Easter Monday after we had been on the Belfast bikes & were (understandably) turned away for wearing trainers and leggings. Decided to chance our arm and ask if we could get in to the National as we were parked opposite. Didn't hold much hope as it was v v busy but excellent bouncer did let us in. Lovely atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks, another proper banterful (& hench!!!!) bouncer. 10/10, would go back.
S. K.
Big place looks well. Expensive but cocktails are top class. I would never go here for a night out but as far I know they do have a DJ, on a Sat night.
A. N.
It was ok but my main bug bear is; why have an outside seating area and bar and you have to go to the bar inside for particular drinks. I mean, it's probably my own fault for marrying a bird who doesn't drink pints!
S. L.
Great relaxing atmosphere and fantastic staff very attentive and polite
C. M.
Love this place - grand Central in near Albert Clock but has an extensive beer garden/ open air bar to the rear - the Durty onion - which is very busy at weekend as you can smoke out there - and they have heaters so it's warm. Serves food which looked great and there was live music and a bbq out in the beer garden - 5th August - definitely top of my list of places to visit next time I am in Belfast.
T. K.
It was fine, the food was fine, the drink options were varied. It felt like a nightclub where they were serving food during the day - which may well be what it is - and it was ok. Not bad, but not great either.
a. h.
Interesting place during the day for food and drinks (sometimes the service is not good sometimes perfect, dépends on the team).
For the evenings it is too crowded and busy.
Good selection of local beers by the bottle.
C. N.
Great food and drinks but quite expensive, you can bring ur dog to the outside seating area which is lovely and there are heat lamps if needed, looks very fancy inside but it's lovely
J. L.
This place is just awesome. For food, for culture. For practical anything you could wish from such an establishment. Wine and cocktails come part of the attraction. Had a lovely time with the family over there.
M. L.
Cool atmosphere in here for Sunday morning brunch. Lovely coffee and one of the best granolas I've tasted! Also really good value.
p. g.

A. E.
The outside seating area was lovely. Spacious and clean.
J. F.
Very good place for brunches or late afternoon drinks! Can be quite busy on weekends but staff is always friendly and they really know their cocktail game!
n. m.
The drinks are nice enough but dear especially when the cocktail I ordered was premade and poured from a bottle , plus the music they play gives a strange atmosphere
K. M.
One of the best bars in Belfast. Love the atmosphere. Prompt polite service. Great place to start or end a night.
s. c.
pleasant spot for brunch. friendly staff and nice food. ice coffee could have been better but that's a very minor complaint
S. Ó. F.
Very nice place to be. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful. The food has always been very good when I have been.
C. W.
Great coffee and tasty breakfast, very kid/toddler friendly will definitely go back next time we’re in Belfast!

B. D.
Great breakfast
Lovely beer Garden
Serving staff are Brilliant
J. H.
Such lovely, attentive staff. Great quality food. The art work and the decor around the building are wonderful.
k. k.
Great if you like whiskey, gin or tequila but this is all they seem to have. Uncomfortable seating in ground floor bar and upper floors practically inaccessible in heels
L. R.
Great atmosphere and drinks reasonably priced
K. D.
Still a Great atmosphere in these strange times, followed all guidelines. Staff 10/10
C. W.
Zinger zinger meal por favor. The national grande cafe latte. Wowzee kids. What can I say, creamy pints and hape of craic, could you bate that? Not even with a big stick.
J. M.
Great for cocktails. I would avoid any pints though,
t.
Very popular bar. Decent beer selection, good big outside drinking area. Plenty of variety inside too.
M. T. (.
Nice atmosphere, excellent food, medium sized portions. Perfect service - my order was lost and due to the delay I did not have to pay!
F. A.
Door staff were brilliant, times are different now and they were very good. Inside all was as you would expect and was very good
C. C.
Great place for lunch- great food and atmosphere - didn't give 5 stars as you can be waiting a bit from being seated to ordering and getting drinks.
M. M.
Great bar especially the outdoor area. They also offer food in this area which is fantastic
K. M.
