T. T. C.Really great service from our server - very friendly with a bit of banter, no delays, no issues with any of the food. Thank you! The Korean fried crispy chicken and chips packed a decent punch - really good.
Sad that the impact of covid is being felt with bars, which should be hiving with people, empty at this time of year.

I had the Ham and Mash (cos Ireland innit...) and it was smashing. We hadn't booked and rolled up at 7pm on a Friday but they kindly made space and looked after us, even though they were nearly full.

A. M.What a fantabulous experience! The atmosphere in the restaurant has good vibes written all over it, the music was spot on, and the food was quite good! The best part was our waiter, Mark. In addition to being super helpful with ordering the best food (we learned about ordering the perfect steak), he was so friendly, and we truly enjoyed his banter and card tricks! Come for the food and stay for the awesome staff!

A. L.We visited this restaurant after finding out that our favourite place had stopped serving food at 1920. We stumbled across the Northern Whig and decided to give it a go. Interesting eating place with funky blue lighting. Upon entering, you have to find the restaurant bit and the sign you you wait to be seated. There is a good selection of food and the prices are reasonable. There are also meal deals available. Three courses for two people came to £54 with a round of drinks.

The menus seemed lovely with great options and very good value however I was very disappointed with the actual taste and quality of it. All the dishes were beautifully presented however the food itself lacked flavour and tasted very proceeded. The two waitresses that served us weren’t particularly friendly but the two bar staff were and the drinks were delicious.
I’d come back for drinks but not for the food.

L. M.Had great few hours for food and drink. Great service. I had my Lateral flow test on my phone to show on entry but no photo ID. The Doorman was very Professional and patient as my partner trawled her phone for my Passport pic. Great experience. Unfortunately the Doorman had finished his shift before we left. Definitely recommend this venue and we will be back. Cheers guys.

A. S.We visited on a Friday night. We were early at about 5.30 and got a table no problem. There was live music as part of the Belfast Blues Festival and it was very good, if a bit loud. Staff were very nice and efficient. My pork sliders were tasty and I enjoyed every bite. Partner had fishcakes which were reportedly delicious but a bit small for a main. Should be served with chips, not salad. Very good venue for an after work meal on a Friday night.

So would 100% recommend for a few drinks but would get dinner elsewhere :)

Anyone who was walking past attempting to cause trouble he dealt with them with patience and knew how to have the craic with anyone in the bar. J. O.We had been here midweek a few weeks ago and I had the scampi which was very nice. We returned 23 July and both of ordered the scampi. I could tell that it had been sitting under a lamp for some time and only we were in a bit of a hurry I would have sent it back. Very disappointed. The bill also came with a bottle of wine that we had not had £23. After pointing this out, it was removed from the bill and an apology offered. Not a great experience, staff were good.

A.Had such good fun, we all went out for our dinner and it was lovely (forgot to take photos of food) my friend had steak sandwich with peppercorn sauce and she loved it, I had chicken burger, I think 😂😂😂😂 Beer was lovely! No Carslberg or Stella so drank a beer beginning with A and it was good and strong but expensive. The room our meal was in was all sectioned off due to Covid and very safe. Don't think you're allowed in in trainers,again I can't remember 😂😂🤣🤣 Good night all round and would encourage anyone to go. X
M. M.We had lunch here, it was last day of eat out incentive. Restaurant was busy, atmosphere was good, especially given all the social distancing and face masks, staff were very friendly and attentive. Wonderful 3 course meal for £10 with excellent choice of dishes, all of which were available on the main menu, so no cheaper dishes to suit the price basically. Super range of cocktails to boot, my what a lunch 😊

S. D.The food was great, however we were in with a group and were making a strong effort to make sure we wore our masks everytime we got up from the table to walk to the bathroom. One of the waitresses came up to us at the end of the meal and told us we didn't need to bother doing this. I found it uneasy that staff were discouraging this behaviour from customers, and surely should be happy that their customer are making the effort to take extra precautions on their own accord?

B.We got an hour on Friday evening from 7 to 8 because we hadn't booked,basically scoffed our dinner and asked to leave,Belfast is no longer buzzing give a month or two if you are looking for a decent night out.
T. M.Normally go here for cocktails, but went with the family for lunch yesterday. Ordered Frank's crispy wings for starters, little did I know these would be crazy spicy and very salty! Don't do hot so couldn't eat them. Told the server who gave it around of "sure everyone knows Frank's is spicy" Unfortunately I didn't and neither did most of the people I have told this story too. Ordered the chuck and brisket burger for mains, thought this would have been a chicken burger, but to my error it was a beef burger! "chuck = beef?" However, the burger was lovely, could not fault it and the homemade cheesecake was amazing! It has to be tried! overall, decent experience, won't be rushing back as did not find staff that friendly or considerate.

L. G.Fantastic place! We turned up around 545pm hoping for a table, it was really really busy but we were offered a 'reserved' table as long as we could vacate by 730pm, loads of time to have dinner.
The food was outstanding, couldn't fault it. The service was equally as good, didn't feel harassed to leave.
When we asked for our bill however, it seemed increasingly more than it should have been and when we checked it there was a mistake, a drinks bill from the bar had home astray but once pointed out the staff couldn't have been more apologetic and actually took 2 of our drinks off the bill.

m. m.The door staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Having passed by other bars and witnessed door staff turning them away, I was worried that might happen here but we were welcomed warmly. My only reason for deducting a star was the volume of the music being played by the DJ. I have hearing loss in one ear and had earplugs to wear which helped a bit in reducing it but I couldnt have stayed had i not brought them

J. J.Went for a Sunday afternoon meal with family. Two took the roast beef which was served in a large Yorkshire pudding. Tender meat. I had the burger in a bin with cheese and bacon. Really nice. The best was my daughter who had the children's 3 course. Big portions and all good. No complaints from a fussy eater. Only down side was musician playing, he was good but too loud. Other than that 51 ponds for 4 good

A. B.It's a great venue. There was a great singer there and then the DJs played really good tunes. Only downside was the service. When we arrived it was fine but as the place got busier that service slowed. There didn't seem to be a system of service. I managed bars in Belfast for a few years and one of the things I taught when training was "look up" so you can see who's next! I will go back but will avoid busier times.

B. M.Start with the good. I went into the small, lower bar as it was quiet there. The barman/waiter was very pleasant and helpful and explained what the soup was and the various beers/ales as I had not been in for a year or so and things had changed. All good until I looked at the menu. At first glance there seemed to be a good range but maim meals were all meat (or fish) bar one - butternut squash and mushroom risotto - not very exciting. I didn't bother with that and decided to just have soup, thankfully meat free Leek and chedder. My husband preferred beef brisket sliders that were 'so so' with hand cut chips that were very nice. Food arrived quickly and he quite enjoyed his but my soup was a bit cold and far too salty so I couldn't eat it all. Disappointed - would go back for a pint but would not eat there again

N. S.Booked this on Monday 31 October for dinner on Tuesday 1 November. Asked if I could have a booth in the restaurant and this wasn't a problem. Booking was smooth and pleasant enough with the booker stating they looked forward to seeing us.
On arrival we were greeted and after confirming booking we were shown to our table. We had a party of 12 older German gentlemen opposite but they behaved themselves and weren't a bother. Attentive waiter came over was pleasant and asked us for our drinks order. 1 bottle of prosecco and two french martinis delivered up while we browsed a quite extensive menu that personally I would say will cover most people's tastes. Deep fried Brie and bang bang chicken skewers to start were delicious. Portions not over generous but average I would say. Main course of Korean chicken and sirloin was good. Really chunky chips and tobacco onions with the steak. Ok it won't set the culinary world alight but was cooked to my taste and not too much fat. Creamy whiskey sauce was so smooth and complemented the meat. Korean chicken with a side of chips came on a wooden platter. No room to cut up chicken except in the bowl it came in. Perhaps it would have been better served on a plate. Chicken had a nice smooth coconutty taste to it. Not too over powering and the nice almost tempura batter gave the chicken a bit of bite. The wine and cocktails going down well, the waiting staff, made sure our food was ok and we had enough to drink. Gave it about half an hour, sipped the martinis had another glass of prosecco then the sweets beckoned. Nice selection on offer but in the end not being too adventurous we opted for raspberry tartlet and sticky toffee pudding. Both fine. Staff didn't pressure us to move and we had a nice relaxing sit finishing bottle and martinis. About 3 hours in total. Total bill including wine, cocktails and soft drinks was £90. Great night out during the week. Don't know how quiet this would be at the weekend. I suspect being a pretty popular destination you wouldn't get the luxury of a 3 hour dinner but that's only to be expected at busy time.

B. G.First time in Ireland period and all I can say is wow I am glad I came here to The northern Whig.. I ordered the Morracan Chicken dish and I loved it so much it was so tasty and delicous. I also ordered the Toffee Pudding as dessert and it was just perfect I had no complaints about this pub it was perfect. We were out celebrating my best friends birthday and came here . Coming from the Usa to Ireland I was amazed how customer service comes a long way and how everyone is so kind and humble. I felt welcomed and felt like I belonged here. I would recommend this pub in Belfast Ireland.

M. G. (.I have always enjoyed the "Whig" but since its recent face Lift I love it a bit More, the Bar is well placed, the Staff are attentive and friendly, and theyre is a hugh selection of Drinks on the menu from beers to Cocktails.
on my last visit here I was with a party of 14 all eating and drinking, Everyone loved their food, and all was served at the same time with no issues.
This is a great spot if you are out for some Pub Lunch, or a Night out with the Guys / Girls, In the Center of belfast you are not to far from anywhere.

i will always give this restaurant/bar 5 out of 5 every time, and i will recomend it to every one i know.
you never know i might just go back there for a meal or so, hope to see a few of the old friends i used to work with in the kitchen.

R.The Northern Whig bar and restaurant is arguably one of the best public social spaces in Belfast. Elegant decor. Pleasant staff. Good selection of wines,ales,lagers and gins. G.Havent been here in years, it has been refurbished since I was last in, looks fab, nice seating area as you walk in then up a few steps to the bar area in the middle with tables around the sides, had the 2 course meal for 20pounds which was delicious, went for the steak sandwich which was so tasty and chips, had the cheesecake for dessert which was also lovely, there was a big table of us and the service was great.
