Stopped here by chance as we were in the area. We ordered a small mix grill which was flavoursome and generously sized and some fish pakora. The food didn't take long and we could see it being prepared through the kitchen hatch. The decor was dated and plain but don't be put off by it. The food is good and the lady owner is very friendly. Overall it was a nice lunch experience.

Been going here for a number of years and have never been letdown by the food once even after some changes. Always a great service, even at busy periods and the staff are very welcoming. Word of advice for anyone wanting to come to eat, definitely try to book a table in advance as it can be pretty full or they will be fully booked. Would definitely eat here anyday and would definitely recommend this place 💯

Good food, reasonable prices, good atmosphere, can't fault it. Tried this place for the first time yesterday. From the outside it looks like a typical British pub but similar to The Vine when you venture into the back there's a dining and pool area (heads up on this the door from the main bar is simply labeled "toilets", the corridor takes you to the toilets AND the back area which can be confusing if you don't know where you're going). The food is typical Asian grill with sizzler options to start and curries for mains. I went with a large mixed grill which contained the usual mountain of meat. Mains were a lamb balti and a couple of naans. The sizzlers were excellent, great marinade on the meat and unlike other places came accompanied by a giant bottle of chili sauce and mint yoghurt so we never ran out. Curry was good too with plenty of meat. Drinks weren't badly priced either (£3/pint). Two families went, mine ate more and we only clocked up £10/head, the other family only spent £4/head. Overall for the price, quality, location (and the fact that there's plenty of on street parking) it's gotta get the full 5 stars. Highly recommended.

My 1st time here and I must say it was excellent. Ordered food and was served within 10 to 15 minutes. Everything came piping hot. We had a large grill Platter between 4 people, a chicken sagwala., chicken tikka massala, keema matter,fish pakora, 2 chilli chips, cheese nann and keema and garlic naan. Total cost 55.00 pounds. Beer was also reasonable. Great tasting food. Will definitely be going back again. Highly recommended.

A friendly pub that offers a fantastic curry. The mixed grill is outstanding and you get plenty. I've also tried the chilli chicken, chicken madras and chicken tikka wrap. All were just as good. If I had to be ultra critical then I'd say the place could really do with a refurb. But to me personally it doesn't make a difference. Superb.

Came yesterday evening with my husband as this place was highly recommended. It did not disappoint, we ordered a mixed grill and a lamb curry. The food was generous portions and so tastey. OK, so I'm a bit torn about leaving a review, cos I kind of feel the Merry Maid should remain an undiscovered gem. But the folks that run it are great and after covid, they need the business....so, a bit rough round the edges, looks a bit scary from the outside, however my friends and I consider this the best south asian eatery in Brum. I don't say "Indian" cos it is not your average Indian English restaurant (way too many of those!). Fantastic food (fish pakoras to die for), good size portions (we usually over-order), at a very affordable price. Be brave, try it, you will keep coming back again and again. If you're into pool, this is also the place for you.

Back room dining room in a back street pub that echoes of the original curry houses back in the day. There are no frills in this place that seems more social club than restaurant. The menu is limited, the furnishing is basic (but you do get a paper tablecloth) and, as on some previous visits, it could be pool night or lads night out from some local business. It doesn't seat a large number so booking is worthwhile if you're in a group. Otherwise, you can sit and wait your turn in the bar out front. Service is friendly but you order your own food up at the hatch. Bigger groups seem to get a bit more table service. Considering how small the kitchen looks through the hatch it is amazing how much food comes so quickly especially when they are full. Food is good value, portion size is very generous and it always seems freshly prepared. It isn't gourmet but then who would come here expecting that? There is more 'atmosphere' and personality here than at most stylish restaurants.

Cannot fault the food at all. And the price is very good. The only thing that put me off is because of the COVID going on we had a take out but me and my partner ate ours in the car we asked the lady if we could have a take out box so we could share the food out but wanted 50P for it which wasn’t a problem but she seemed funny about it.

Exceptional food, very reasonably priced. Mixed grill starter and fish pakora a real highlight. We don't tend to bother with main course as the starter is so good but the mains are also good. Cannot stress enough, go for the starters and see how you feel. Decoration isn't that of a typical curry house but you don't miss out. Food ordered from the hatch in the corner with speedy service. Best overall food in the Midlands, this means starters and main course are both great and very affordable. I usually order a mixed grill, fish pakorhe and their signature dish in my eyes the chilli chicken (If you can handle your spice). Main course I usually have a chicken or fish curry and most types of curries are very tasty bhuna, jalfezi etc.. Keema is also great. The wraps are in naan which are also tasty and Biryani's are delicious but can be too spicy but they can reduce the heat on request. It isn't your fine dining restaurant but you can't go wrong with the Merrymaid on an overall scale. Book your tables in advance on Friday and Saturday evenings as you may be disappointed. I believe they are looking to give the place a lick of paint which is needed. Pool is competitive during peak hours so if you're any good put your name on the board and bring your cue. You can put some English or Bhangra songs on their juke box as well. Two seperate rooms, one more traditional pub style usually with the locals and 1 pool table also a rear room which is more of a restaurant style with a bar on both sides, at the end of this room and new extension area has 2 pool tables. Family owned business and Staff are vrr friendly and make you feel at home. Always recommend this place if you want a good local pub with great food and everything at more then reasonable prices!

This is the best curry in Birmingham. The mixed grills are massive and the sort of food you'd have as your last meal if you were on death row. The atmosphere is casual, friendly, lively. There's a jukebox with every tune under the sun. They have a pool table and they show all the sport. It is my favourite pub in the world. Plus they have Birmingham City shirts above the bar. It's on the 50 bus route. There is literally nothing I don't like about the Merry Maid. If I could give it a 6 out of 5 I would.

This is run by an indian punjabi family, typical local pub with a pool table in the front. In the back there are tables for you to grab some of the best indian food. need to book the table well in advance. try fish pakora, mixed grill, lamb chops, butter chicken, chicken balti. the vegetarian dishes are also very good.
