Reviews of Paul at No 41
M. K.
I went here for a late lunch with my bestie. The experience was phenomenal from the service to the food. Paul was extremely courteous and friendly. The wait was a little long but it was definitely worth it considering it was prepared fresh.
I ordered the tofu scrambled toast and it was delicious! The ambience and mood of this cafe was utterly welcoming and warm.
Thank you Paul for an amazing experience and now I have a new favourite cafe!
P. C.
Highly recommend! Amazing food, great drinks, and a lovely bright atmosphere. The service is brilliant and Paul & his wife are very hospitable and passionate about what they do. It definitely makes you realise how nice it is to support a local business. I will definitely go back very soon (and will be buying some coffee beans - best coffee ever!)

We indulgent on a weekend brunch at Pauls at No.41 on Harborne High Street. The picturesque atmosphere felt like something out of a coastal postcard! It was very clean and quaint. As a family run restaurant, it was very welcoming albeit a little busy on a Sunday morning. It probably would be better to book a table in advance, but wait times were not too long.
Staff were wonderful and the breakfast was a wholesome one. Ingredients were fresh and it was a modern take on traditional breakfast. Expect high end beans - not baked beans…will definitely be going again soon!

I've been living in Harborne for over a year but this is my first time to visit this lovely place. We should have come earlier cuz it is so nice!! Decent coffee, best berries pancakes n amazing homemade vegetarian breakfast. The only thing better than the food is the service - attentive, friendly and peaceful. Had a great time with my bestie here, will def come back with my friends. A go-to place on Harborne high street🙌
S. G.
Beautiful food. Honestly the best breakfast out I've had in a long time. Freshly cooked, tasty and great service with alternative items offered when myself and my partner didn't want an item with our breakfast. Would definitely recommend and come back again. So nice to have a proper veggie breakfast offered. Absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back. Thanks!
H. C.
Paul and the team were so friendly! We were so keen to come here and try the menu and it did not disappoint!
Would highly recommend! 10/10!

Decided to treat myself to a birthday breakfast and was so so happy I chose to dine here. I had the Traditional breakfast and every single item on that plate was so flavourful and so fresh. Food was served promptly and staff are so friendly and attentive. Thanks to Paul
for the lemon and pistachio cake it was very very yum :) !
J.
Absolutely delicious Breakfast and Brunch. Everything freshly prepared, quality ingredients, great coffee. Super service. Will definitely become a regular brunch spot.
C. S.
Went here with my partner for lunch and had a lovely time. Staff very friendly, well decorated interior and very generous portions on the lunch menu. The chips in particular were excellent. Will definitely come back again.

Amazing service, beautiful venue and delicious food! My sons a picky eater but he loved it and asked for more! We will be back soon. Thank you 😊

I had the tofu sandwich and really found it tasty. The flavour was delicious. My partner had the burger and he too found his meal delicious. I strongly recommend this place.

My birthday lunch 🙂.
Well where to start...this is one of the best cafe I have EVER been to! I always go here when looking for brunchy food or amazing salads (Summer is coming).
My Order: Chicken House Salad (on a plate), the BEST homemade dressing you could ask for (on the side) and a side of there lovely fresh Lavendar Bakery Sourdough (sooooo good, you will not regret it!). Please see photo attached .
Having suffered from an Eating Disorder in my younger life and now in recovery, 'eating out' can always be slightly challenging. Never-the-less, Paul and all of his staff are super attentive and accommodating. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Even if your not happy with your meal/drink once it's arrived; they will do anything they can to amend any issues.
It was my birthday when I came to visit Paul's at No.41, I left happy and with a tummy filled with lovely nutritious food. AND a surprise cake for when I got home (so good I couldn't resist a nibble before taking a photo)!
Best thing for you to do this year 2022 - DO NOT bother wasting your money on co-operate chain cafes, instead support and fall in love with local businesses like this little gem!
Thanks again Paul & all the rest of the staff .
Keep up the amazing work!

At my age, I’ve eaten quite a few full breakfasts. Some at really famous places. Most adequate. Some really poor. But NEVER, until today, exceptionally good. And practically on my doorstep too. I have lived here, off and on (mostly on) since 1970.
I am quite embarrassed that I have not been in before. More than embarrassed, although vagaries of ill-health had a lot to do with this. The manner and presentation of the various parts of our “full English” breakfasts were imaginative and beautifully presented. The vegan breakfast for our determinedly vegetarian daughter, was simply the best she’s had in more than twenty years. Home-made baked beans! Little, roasted tomatoes. Quartered mushrooms that I could taste despite having a long-standing taste problem. Bacon, sausages and black pudding that passed muster with Husband the Butcher. Coffee that was strong enough for me.
The most pleasant restaurateur and chef I have met for years.
Even the water jug was really pretty, with ice and thin slices of fruit.
I spent a few minutes reflecting on the shops that once were at this end of Harborne in the early Seventies. I think Paul at 41 was once a very old-fashioned greengrocers, selling all manner of new-fangled fruits and vegetables to the ladies of Edgbaston (of whom I am now one), where my husband had worked as a schoolboy in the Sixties. Nearby a barber, news agency, baker and a sort of posh shop where one could buy Gentleman’s Relish.
All this for three, incredibly, reasonably-priced breakfasts! Coffee, food, new friends and memories, bar none.

Absolutely amazing. Went in today and although every table was taken the service was fabulous. Food and drinks were ordered, we were not disappointed - bacon and egg sandwich, egg benedict both scrumpy but my personal recommendation was the Italian sandwich - the most scrumptious meal I have had. Thank you Paul, Lynette & Co., look forward to seeing you again soon

We passed by Paul's café last week when it was closed and we straightforwardly knew we had to try it out. And it did not disappoint! The place is absolutely fantastic, we were very pleased about our experience there and we cannot wait to be back and attend one of their live music events.
We ordered a pot of Earl Grey tea for two that came accompanied by a beautiful Mason jar with some milk on the side. Then, we had a halloumi and roasted pepper burger and a roasted salmon salad. Both plates were exceptionally cooked and it was evident how much care and thought were put in each elaboration. I truly believe each plate was worth its price since the salmon salad had a remarkable serving of salmon together with avocado, chickpeas and a delicious homemade dressing. The chips that accompanied the burgers were to die for!
After that, we could not leave without a sweet treat and we shared a serving of the banoffee mudpie which was incredibly delicious. Paul was attentive and caring through the whole meal and the rest of the staff was very nice and thoughtful.
Looking forward to visiting Paul's at No 41 again!

Lovely coffee shop which was spotless clean with courteous friendly staff. Tap water with fruit 😋 High quality breakfast which was great value. My cortado coffee was 💯👍💪
Will now be our goto when in Harborne. We'll done chaps 😎🥰

Been wanting to try this place for ages and sadly we were really disappointed. Our drinks and service were lovely, but oddly not the food. Service was very slow, but friendly and welcoming. Judging by all the reviews, we must have gone on a bad day? The breakfast was overly greasy, burnt black bits on my plate but the bacon was barely cooked. My partner's vegetarian breakfast was not much better either. It just wasn't anything special unfortunately, it was very similar to a greasy cafe full English, but that's not what I was expecting, and especially not for the price sadly.
C. D.
I've visited twice now, the food is fantastic, high quality ingredients and it's obvious a lot of thought goes into the flavours and presentation. All that with a reasonable price and amazing service, and friendly staff. What's not to like?!
D. M.
Excellent customer service and the menu has a good selection of to be choose from. The food is well presented on your plate and enjoyable to eat. Would recommend them to family or friends.
J. E.
The focus here is on the food and drink rather than trying to be trendy or fancy, and how it shows.
Some of the best coffee I've had in a long time. Fantastic food too, had a breakfast that wasn't particularly expensive but you could tell the quality was a level above normal when even the baked beans have apparently been made on site rather than coming out of a tin.
Absolutely flawless - not the cheapest place in town, but you can see where the extra couple of quid go.
T. D.
The BEST breakfast I have EVER had!!
I had the traditional breakfast. Every single element was perfection.
The beans were to die for and the scrambled eggs were uniquely tasty.
My partner also can't stop saying how delicious his sausage sandwich was.
The care and effort taken to provide a first class breakfast experience was evident not only in the food itself but the stellar service provided by the gentlemen running the establishment.
Will definitely be returning here often.
Thank you for the beautiful start to our day.
R. M.
Wonderful service from Paul and his team. Coffee is perfect. And so are the beans he has for sale. I look forward to coming up from London to work on Saturdays for my quick caffeine fix and chat.
b. m. k.
Great grub and very kind staff. Easy going cafe. Burger was real quality. The owner checked on us. There is a great apple slice, must try!
Z. S.
I visited here a few weeks back and it did not disappoint. I had a cappuccino and eggs royal and they were beautiful. Paul's customer service was superb, supplying everyone with the greatest hospitality. Lovely place. Will be back soon. Thank you Paul.
F. B.
Amazing cake !!! Nice atmosphere light laid back and friendly. Staff lovely. Good food menu for brekkie, brunches and lunches, good coffee. Has got changing facility in toilet.
J. C.
Popped in when it was super busy and was served very promptly- so I could catch my bus! Service was lovely and coffee was so good. Café has a lovely vibe. Can't wait to come back and eat here soon (got my eye on a banoffee pie).
P. B.
Had a scrumptious brunch with my friend. My scrambled eggs and salmon with sourdough toast with fresh green spinach was delicious. The vegetarian breakfast was filling and tasty... Their vegan chocolate cake and custard was as usual delightful to eat. Great selection of teas. Paul and staff were as always lovely, attentive and sweet.
E. M. S.
Delicious latte and great brunch! The attention was perfect and the place is very pretty. We order eggs Benedict and avo smash, both were pretty good and filling. I'm definitely coming back :)
S. H.
Great food and great service. Everyone was lovely, this place is one of the biggest reasons why I desperately need to move back to Harborne!
B. B.
A delightfully charming establishment. I was in Birmingham for a couple days for a wedding with my wife and we went here two days in a row. Excellent food, wonderful service and Paul is a genuinely nice person. He even adds the extra touch to the experience with fruit in your water. We will be back when we are back in town.
S. T.
The attention to details and quality of the food is superb. Friendly and caring these guys are providing a gem for the high street. We went in yesterday with a an autistic young lady and they were patient and supportive, she loved the food and was made feel welcome and definitely looked after. The smoothies were amazing too. The cake you guheaven.Thank
you guys got it right 100%.

Absolutely the best veggie breakfast I’ve had in a while, loved the scrambled tofu as I don’t really eat eggs. Delicious coffee too, can’t wait to come back
t. s.
Amazing breakfast and cakes and decor, plus very good prices
S. B.
A fantastic cafe/restaurant serving truly excellent breakfasts. The homemade baked beans were great and the full English was delicious.
I. T.
Came here for the first time today for brunch with a friend and loved it!! I asked if I could have a veggie option of the benedict eggs and they suggested having them with veggie sausage instead of the ham, it was amaaaazing 🥰 really tasty and fresh coffee too. Very friendly staff, Paul came to greet us before leaving and told us a bit about his story.
Couldn’t recommend it more!
P. R.
Amazing breakfast, superb coffee and even better service. Highly recommend

Only found this place recently. Very impressed with the quality of the food and service. Excellent value with top ingredients.
Been back again and just as good.
Went today only too find not open Monday's. Was a bit disappointed so popped next door to The Plough.... Big mistake. Won't be going there again. Will however visit Paul's very soon
G. S.
A lovely place for brunch! Fantastic service and very attentive, a lovely atmosphere and vibe and love the decor. The food was fab, really great quality ingredients and very tasty. Highly recommend!
A. R.
The staff are so friendly and helpful, really welcoming! The first time I ate here, I ordered pancakes but they didn’t taste quite right- I mentioned to the waitress, they made a fresh plate (which tasted incredible) and the owner Paul didn’t charge me for anything because of it. I left a tip though! I’ve been back several times since- they treat you well as a customer and are rewarded with loyalty :)
R. D.
Fantastic brunch experience - the locally sourced produce for my traditional breakfast was absolute sensational and cooked/seasoned to perfection. Fully recommended for a lazy Sunday meal
L. T.
I have eaten at Paul's a few times now and I am never disappointed. I'm not sure how they can make a traditional English breakfast so much more interesting and delicious!
Paul and his staff have always been really attentive and I appreciate how much care and attention they have put into making sure that the environment is as safe as possible during these social distancing regulations.
Thank you for always delivering an enjoyable experience - I'll be back soon!

We have just returned from having a lovely breakfast at Paul at 41 and I just had to write a review. The service was so down to earth and friendly and the food and drink could not be better. I can’t believe it’s taken us so long to visit but we will be returning again soon.
W. S.
Discovered this lovely place a few months ago and have visited a few times since. You are made to feel very welcome by the owner and other staff. Nothing is too much trouble. The food is of a very high quality and some interesting choices that you wouldn't get at a high street chain. Can definitely recommend a visit. We are now loyal fans and will continue to support this independent café.
Z. M.
Love this place, great local cafe with fantastic service and Paul is the consummate professional with great service and very friendly - so glad that he is back openfor business. Great Banoffee cakes to simply die for and fabulous poached eggs on sourdough toast!!!
J. V.

Lovely fresh clean decor. Ordered Italian salad sandwich and Ploughman salad.
Huge portions! Great fresh produce, beautifully seasoned and presented.
Great service, couldn't finish asked for box.
Made a great lunch the following day.
Skin on chips excellent.
Definitely superior to any chain on the high street.
Will return!
V. F.
Lovely eatery, lovely menu. I had vegan breakfast - really yummy and lovely touches of homemade hash browns, baked beans and tofu scrambled 'eggs' it was a huge portion for me, I really enjoyed it. Would recommend and has the thumbs up. Lovely decor, friendly service and so clean.
P. T.
Best place in Harborne for breakfast / brunch. Lovely food and lovely people

Great breakfast with the family. Worth coming for the amazing home made baked beans alone. Overall food was delicious and Paul was a really nice gut, obviously very committed to the quality of the food he is serving
S. D.
Great place for food … Rostis are absolutely amazing…
The eggs royals.. wow..

Amazing place…

Cozy, sleek and homely. This place is phenomenal! Friendly service and a simple and elegant environment I could honestly stay here for hours. I had the traditional breakfast and a flat white, the coffee is amazing and smooth. The breakfast was incredible, Paul’s attention to detail with his recipe’s shines through even on a breakfast. The homemade hash browns are to die for and Paul’s homemade baked beans really are exquisite, but for me the scrambled eggs were the icing on the cake they were creamy and honestly I could have happily eaten a whole plate of them! In my opinion no where on the high street offers such gorgeous food with thought out and personal homemade recipe’s, as well as such a comfy and personable experience. My new and permanent local for breakfast and food in Harborne, go to Paul’s you will not be disappointed!
E. B.
Fantastic service, phenomenal food. The decor gives the cafe a very warm and elegant feeling. Love it here, can not fault a thing! Cant wait to come back. Paul and his team are just fantastic.
P. C.
First visit and wont be the last. Excellent service and food freshly prepared as you order and well worth waiting for. The burgers are very tasty and the bread is locally sourced and delicious. Overall a pleasant Saturday afternoon out and would recommend. It's not overly expensive either for Harborne and competes very well with the chain restaurants.
G. L.

B. R.
Great food, lovely coffee. Friendly service from the hardworking owner.
Recommended: Sausage Sandwich.
A. W.
Paul is very friendly and accommodating, plus the coffee is delicious (as well as the banoffee pie!)
B. A.
Given the plethora of brunch spots in harborne, the decision to open a small eatery on the high street is a brave one. Paul's exceeds across the board in food, service and atmosphere. Well cooked eggs Benedict - perfectly runny yolks with a good quantity of hollandaise - as well as decent hash browns. Attentive service and a relaxed, modern atmosphere. Well worth a visit outside of the run-of-the-mill chains that litter the high street.
D. G.
Great food and friendly atmosphere, highly recommended.
