Reviews of Tonkotsu Selfridges Birmingham

Incredibly tasty and delicious ramen soups! The best bamboo shots I ever had in my life! Definitely worth visit! Have a ginger lemonade too! Fortunately picture after food cause food was too good!

Very friendly staff and excellent ramen, quite reminiscent of noodle bars in Japanese train stations. Reasonably priced and good service. Seating is at the counter on the main throughway of Selfridges ground floor, but it was still relaxed and comfortable. All menu options have several variations including vegetarian options, but the menu is quite limited (as to be expected from a small noodle bar). I would have liked to have tried the short rib ramen, but there are only 10 available per day, so get there early of this is what you want to try.

I'm Japanese. I couldn't find a good Ramen in the UK. But ramen in Tonkotsu is amazing. The taste is almost close to Japanese ramen! I'll definitely go there again. However, the restraint is small because it is in bullring. I would like them to open a bigger restaurant!!

I just love this place. Foods amazing, and the staff is always so kind and friendly! My fav is the chicken ramen, even if today I’ve tried the prawns and wow, I don’t know what to chose anymore :/
P. K.
Not authentic Japenese Ramen soup. Very mild tasting soups. The broth is not flavourful enough. The flavours are like watered down.

Great food having never had such ramen before. Seriously rich and delicious. Enjoyed the pod aspect of dining although on busy corridor of Selfridges food court floor.

Pretty authentic Japanese ramen.
The tonkotsu broth is very thick and delicious, noodles, meat, eggs everything is great.

Amazing ramen and delicious food, such friendly staff so welcoming and lovely. Will definitely be going back, amazing place. Thank you!

It is genuine ramen - that's for sure. But unfortunately the standard tonkotsu is way too fatty. The spicy version is extremely spicy, which isn't a good thing either, because it kills the ramen flavour. I love spicy food, but this was way too hot. Overall it wasn't a bad experience, but we were expecting it to be much better.

London chain that has a place in Birmingham. It's got some great ramen choices and some fantastic katsu curry. The chicken was perfectly coated and fried, accompanied by a great katsu curry sauce and some fluffy rice. The food here is high quality and there's usually a queue. The service is lacking sadly with customers not the first thing on the waiter's mind.

Excellent place! Very friendly owner who introduced himself when we sat down, food was brought over very quickly and it tasted amazing, I recommend the Tokyo Ramen Bowl if you've never had a ramen bowl and get a side of Gyoza too! All staff very helpful and friendly. Owner even helped my friend with how to use chop sticks.
Will be making this my go-to place for Japanese cuisine.

Great ramen with the BEST eat the bits chilli oil in town. Good use of screens for social distancing. Good for gyoza, Katsu curry and chicken and pork bone ramen. Good options for veggo’s too.

Exceptional
AmaZing Japanese restaurant
Fab ramen and dry dishes
Deep fried prawns
Just love this food

Delicious chicken katsu but I would prefer breast fillet instead of thighs

Stunning. The eponymous dish is the best ramen dish I've eaten in this country. Full of a rich depth of flavour and the noodles are perfect.

I am fussy with my ramen. Tonkotsu served me well...rich in broth but not overpowering.
M. G.
Best Ramen I have had outside of Japan tonkotsu Bristol was delightful slaver and intensely porky
H. N.
We had excellent fresh meal and the staff really looked after us. Great experience, thank you

Great same quality as the London restaurants. Tonkotsu Ramen & Malted ice cream sandwich.
陳.
Lovely place and great ramen! The staff were very friendly and the owner was also very nice and recommended some things for us to try too.
The service was very quick and the space very clean.
Although it’s not the stores fault, it can be a little difficult to eat here if there are more than 2 of you at busy times, and more than 4 of you at quieter times.
Regardless, it was a very enjoyable experience and i would definitely recommend!

In my quest for as authentic a Japanese ramen as possible, I found this little gem of a ramen bar. Pretty nice place and very nice ramen and creamy broth.
S. L.
The food is great, I particularly enjoy the original Tonkotsu ramen as the broth is nice and rich. The female staff members could be a little friendlier but the older asian gentleman is a delight. Very nice and friendly, recommending me to try new things when I go.

Quick, appetising, lovely looking dishes, served with assurance.

One of my favourite restaurants. Kevin is always so welcoming and happy! Since living in scotland, when ever I visit Birmingham, dining here is a must!
The chili oil is amazing, thankfully you can order from amazon!

Flavourful ramen soup bowls, if you come here you definitely need to try the “Tonkotsu” bowl. One of the best ramen I’ve had in Birmingham!
Although the noodles are quite chewy sometimes, I don’t mind it since the other toppings in the soup is amazing. The pork belly is extremely soft and I love how it’s never greasy. The 1/2 egg, it’s small but the flavour and texture is unmatched to anything I’ve tried before. I always order extra egg because of this.
Last visit I ordered the King Prawn Katsu as well, definitely worth the money for a side dish! Just the right amount of meat to crispy batter ratio.
Only reason for 4 stars is that I tried the miso mushroom ramen bowl, but the soup broth was very bland and didn’t match to my expectations like the original tonkostu bowl.
A. Z.
I love the Tonkontsu in London, food and service is always top notch but I don’t think the one in Birmingham is living up its standard.
The staff were only friendly and attentive to customers who are regulars. For 10% compulsory charge we would be expecting better service ! The staff didn’t seem very keen to serve us and we were treated with indifference in comparison the people seated next to us which is disappointing after reading all the five star reviews. The ramen broth is lovely but the meat looks messy and could be represented a lot better.
A.
Food was great! They mug you for the price however.

Came here on my my own after some busy Christmas shopping! Having thoroughly travelled south east and east asia I am very enthusiastic about the east asian cuisine. I Ordered the seafood ramen, the overall flavour of this dish was fantastic! Kudos to the chefs! The service on the other hand is very bland and forgetful, considering there is a small number of seats the waiting staff are not very attentive.

Lovely ramen & friendly staff, would definitely go back 🥰

We ordered Gyozas, Geki kara ramen, seafood ramen and chicken kara-age. All the dishes were tasty and delicious, but above all, the service is amazing. Kevin teaches beginners how to use the chopsticks with warm smile and the manager (sorry I forgot her name - but the german girl) is extremely friendly and open minded. We are thankful to the team for this tasty experience, we definitely will come back!!

A simple restaurant offering reasonbly priced dishes. I normally order the tokyo ramen which is generally fine but the last time I visited, the pork scratchings were sooo hard that I just couldn't bite into them so I had to leave them... As with what some other reviewers have said, the two female members of staff who do not generally wear the "Tonkotsu" uniform, it would be nice if you offered a smile and stopped chit-chatting with each other in full view of your customers (my reason for dropping from a 5-star to 4-star)! In contrast, the older asian gentleman is a delight to be around - it is evident that he is trying to build rapport with his customers! Finally, the speed at which the food is ready is super quick so that's a plus!

We arrived at this restaurant for dinner. we heard about this place from quite a few people. Well, we were not disappointed. we were warmly welcomed by the staff and we had a fantastic feeling. The meal was yummy. We loved this restaurant a lot and we shall definitely come back again. We recommend this place to all.

This is what ramen should be. A delicious broth, perfect noodles and quick service.

I love my Chilli chicken Ramen i usually go to Wagamamas but was with one of the girls at lunchtime so gave it a try. We had 30mins anx within that time we got served and ate. We had the chilli chicken ramen and the Tonkotsu pork belly ramen. We also had Malawi lemongrass tips tea.
All in all really fresh and not overcooked noodles which is one of my pet dislikes.
The staff were very helpful and had Every thing under control considering it was 70% fully seated.
If you have to wait trust me its worth it great food came in at £25 including drinks for 2 people.

This place is incredible. The food is just amazing. Wagamama who?! Generous portions as well. The people here are also super nice and look after you really well. You sit and straight away there’s lime water in front of you. Would definitely go back.

eaten twice there, good food, at a fast service ended with a warm sake. Easy life

Simply the best. Deep taste ramen, smashing pints of Jap beer. I'd eat in a shopping mall for this

Good service, chicken was good but the curry was missing something. I filled the hole with wine and whiskey.

It is very delicious and staffs are very friendly.
However, they put a £1 donation to the receipt without asking me. Next time, I hope they at least ask me whether I would be happy to give it.

(Translated) Located on the bottom floor of the shopping center. Only counter seats. I wanted a little salt, but overall it was delicious and the clerk was kind. He told me that if Gekikara is too spicy, I'll replace it. Pale ale MIKAN SHIMODA PALE ALE had a low alcohol content but was refreshing and very delicious. There are many stores here as well, so if you are in the vicinity, be sure to check it out.

(Translated) The curry taste is pyeongta, but the chicken katsu meat is thin and the outside is too crispy ...
The donkotsu ramen ordered by a friend is unpleasant in soup, dark soup in good, and meaty soup in bad. It is written that noodles are handmade, but since they are really unprecedented, it is not expressed outside that it is respected. The undercooked texture remained the same, 10.95 lbs.
The biggest problem is that there aren't many people, and the empty seats are empty, but it takes too long to cook. I ordered the two of them, but we didn't come out at the same time, but the removal comes out first, and my friend comes out after giving the people who came later than us ... The order is scrambled ㅠ ㅠ I was eager to go for curry. see

(Translated) Well well. The juice is a little lukewarm.
In Japan, it doesn't reach the taste of a ramen specialty store, but it tastes like eating at a food court.

まぁまぁ。ちょっと汁がぬるい。
日本でいうとラーメン専門店の味には達してないけれど、フードコートで食べるくらいの味。
