Reviews of Ashoka Tandoori
C. S. G.
Love it here, Miah and staff are welcoming and really friendly. Been coming here for a long time, never had a bad meal. Highly recommended.
C. A.
I'm a Curry-holic, travel the world and experience different food and hospitality.
Greeted by a friendly waiter food was ordered.
Poppadoms with accompanying dips were okay although salty.
The meat somosas were nothing to shout about, shop brought mass produced, not home/ restaurant made and quite bland.
Chicken Pathia Madras hot had nice flavours but unfortunately the chicken was tough texture and obviously been pre cooked and reheated in the sauce/ gravy.
Keema naan bread with Garlic and Coriander was tasty and freshly made but again salty.
Not sure if there's a underlying reason to get you to drink more?
It's not the worst but I have had a lot better.
Shame about the overzealous use of salt but good to see there wasn't floods of ghee on the surface of the dish.
Just as a footnote, the restaurant has NOT renewed it's licence due to Covid 19 so only soft drinks are available.
P. W.
Really excellent food, thoroughly enjoyed it. Bring your own wine or beer.
A. R.
This is the only top drawer restaurant left in Bridgend. Superb service from waiting staff, excellent food in huge amounts. A proper quality evening out. Well worth the bill at the end.
J. C.
Amazing flavour, fast very welcoming and friendly. Temperature of food was hot. Very generous portions. Will definitely return and we highly recommend.
J. F.
Just a lovely place to eat and such a warm welcome everytime! Top Quality food ingredients cooked & served to perfection....I love that you can take your own alcoholic drinks in if you want also.
j. b.
Staff were very friendly, food was beautiful and didn't have to wait long to be served, probably the best meal out I've had
S. L.
Excellent food and service. Went there mid-week and wasn't disappointed with the meals.
A. G.
Great food tonight. Away working and stumbled across this gem. Would of been 5 stars if they served alcohol. Well worth a visit. Very clean and proffesional.
M. “. J.
I cannot remember what curry I had but it was superb a little bit more expensive than other Indian takeouts but worth every penny.
I only wish that they do deliveries.
M. D.
Nice Indian restaurant in heart of Bridgend, nice food but they don't serve alcohol.
J. J.
Ordered a take away. Excellent food as always and always made to feel welcome.
J. T.
Thought we would try here for a change. No alcohol licence but no problem with that, however, the meals we chose were very bland and completely unlike the same dishes elsewhere. No flavour at all. Starters, rice and naan were good but the main dish spoilt it.
M. L.
Nice pleasant friendly atmosphere and above all the food was excellent
B. S.
After a long drive home, decided to pick up a take away from Nolton Street. My go to is usually a Chinese but for some reason I headed to the Ashoka Tandoori. I was made to feel very welcome and offered a menu. I decided on a biryani with a side of onion bahji. I was commended on my choice and told that the bahji's were the best in town! I felt that this was a bold claim to make as I have very high standards!
I was not disappointed, the onion bahji's were light, crispy, and full of flavour.
I would go further, the house special biryani was full of meat's and prawns, the sauces were rich and spicy. The portion size did defeat me I failed to eat it all which for those who know me that's a rear thing indeed!
I really enjoyed my meal and I liked the welcome and friendly banter.
I have a copy of the menu and intended to try lot's of other dishes in the near future, thank you
H. J.
We've had many a takeaway from the Ashoka but not a sit down meal. We booked a table for Saturday night and we weren't disappointed. The meal was superb and plentiful, from the poppadoms & chutney trat, starters and mains. Super friendly staff who looked after us so well. We'll definitely book a table again and quite soon too. Highly recommended.
D. T.
Ordered a Mehti Gosht. Food was great. Mr Mispak always friendly.
Z. A.
Tasty individual dishes (we had vegetarian options of a chutney tray which consisted of lime pickle, minty yoghurt, finely sliced onions, tomato & herbs, mango chutney and desiccated coconut with plain poppadoms to start, followed by mains of Goa vegetable curry, mattar paneer, Goa rice & stuffed vegetable naan bread) followed by a sweet floater coffee and standard coffee with a jug of cream on the side (requested). Hot single use wipes to cleanse with provided after the meal plus a mint chocolate each. Polite staff, nice restaurant.
K. J.
Food gorgeous as normal. They no longer sell alcohol but as I don't drink that doesn't bother me but you can take your own and there is no corkage charge
A. F.
I've been here many times and the food and service never disappoints.
The waiting staff are polite, courteous and helpful. The restaurant is always immaculately clean and they now have screens between the tables (covid 19).
The menu has a variety of popular Indian dishes and the food is cooked to perfection. I'll be back once lockdown is over but until then they offer a take away service but unfortunately no delivery.
They've also stopped selling alcohol but have plenty of soft drinks but you are able to take your own alcohol, they provide your tables glasses for £1.
M. V.
Amazing food but little bit on the expensive side.
D. E.
Food was amazing and service was perfect.
A. R.
First time visit as takeaway's in Maesteg are very inconsistent. Polite service and they brought the meals to the car. Great quality food and very well spiced. Bit pricy but we'll be back soon I'm sure.
G. P.
Clean establishment.staff very friendly.food was excellent cooked as I wanted.bring your own alcohol if needed as no licence held..glasses supplied.reasonable prices.also do takeaways.worth a visit.

Fantastic food.
Best Indian restaurant I have been too.
Excellent service and cleanliness.
Superb.
C. J.
This place is by far the best Indian food around. Miah is great too and always welcoming. I’d recommend a Chicken Shakuti. It’s amazing
G. M.
Delicious food this evening with work colleagues, service was good and the food was excellent. 5 dips is the way forward for every curry house! Chicken akbarry was awesome. Only one downside was the price, probably a few quid too expensive but this is a minor fault due to the quality of the food.
D. P.
A really lovely surprise find, as we just looked for the first curry house on the street, and this just happened to be it. The food was great, but the best thing was the service. There are a lot of staff, who are incredibly attentive and there whenever you need, but without 'hovering' over you like you can often find. Really impressed.
C. W.
Stunning food ,fresh full of flavours ,meat on my lamb dansak tender ,best by far the area ,wish they delivered tho
J. T.
Such lovely food and pleasant waiters attending us. I really enjoy the welcome we receive on each occasion despite us visiting quite infrequently, however it is our Indian restaurant of choice in this area and highly recommend.
S. B.
First visit tonight, food was outstanding! Service fantastic very warm and welcoming, can't wait to go back. Would highly recommend!!!
C. H.
I love going to the Ashoka. The staff are friendly and remember us even though we go only every month or so. Service is always great, as is the food. I’m a particular fan of the chicken komla. The warm welcome is one of many reasons we come back again and again. The food is another. Loved the chicken Kashmiri. We’ve never ever had anything less than an excellent experience here.
S. S.
Little jewel of Bridgend!! Was not expecting much when I went in but had some of the best cooked chicken I have had in a long time! These guys really do know how to use a tandoor oven properly, big chunks of moist tender chicken with every bite! I will certainly be going back. Bravo good Sir's and Madam's!
P. L.
Food is great. We are from east end of london. We have some of the finest here and yours dont come short. Well done. Keep it up.
N. P.
Great restaurant and can't fault the service. Usually visit at least once a month with family or friends in large parties which is no problem. The staff are very friendly and the food is great
S. G.
OK restaurant. Depends on whether you are looking for authentic Indian food or whether you are happy with 'standard' restaurant-style mediocre fare.
The base used for all the dishes was identical and there was little variation in what is known as the 'tarka' They were also unable to make me a Delhi-style naan (thinner and crispier with more pull to it) and this may have been due to the excessive baking soda used in most Bangladeshi kitchens.
Overall - 6/10
Food is average, but not authentic Indian as the name suggests (Ashoka was a great Indian emperor and no doubt he will have had better naans)
T. M.
Ordered take-away. Have visited many times over the years but am finding that prices are expensive and with no reduction for take away this really is a bit of a cheek! If quality was exceptional I could excuse it but the food is very bland and lacking depth of flavour. Time for a change I think...
S. H.
Amazing!!! Food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. Couldn't have asked for anything better.
d. f.
Very tasty meal. Actually given box to take leftover food. No alcohol served.
S. M.
The tastiest food ever, attentive staff, surroundings and ambience of restaurant was amazing. Best meal out I've had in many years.
P. B.

Perfectly cooked Naans, delicious curries and friendly service. The meats cooked in the Tandoor are especially delicious too. Gets very busy on weekends, closed on Tuesdays

Fantastic food, nice atmosphere and friendly service. We love our Indian meals and have visited loads all over South Wales and beyond and this place is right up there with the the best of them.
A. D.
It was OK meal experience was very rushed with wrong main dish served. Then waited for correct dish to be cooked while the rest of our food goes cold on the table. Also a little over priced. Not very good experience.
X. S.
Very good Indian food. But the place is really full, crowded, and noisy.
J. L.

I called because the reviews were good and I wasn't disappointed the menu very extensive I was spoilt for choice something for everyone mild in taste to very hot Tikka to masala my starter mixed kebab chicken and lamb tikka I thought the portion was small for the price but very tender and tasty my main garlic chicken tikka karai a mammoth portion served piping hot with mushroom rice every mouthful delicious all the staff friendly the restaurant itself modern and comfy will return if in this area again
m. j.
