Reviews of Browns Brighton
D. B.
Amazing breakfast all round! Veggie, Eggs Royal, Mushroom Rarebit and Traditional all cooked beautifully! Very good attentive staff!
P. F.
10/10... Food is fantastic, service is amazing. Woman behind the bar making the cocktails all night was so good we had to get one after our meal. This place did not disappoint.
P. C.
Very enjoyable, pre graduation lunch. Friendly staff, swift service and expansive menu that caters for all tastes. They made a point of checking of allergies too, quite on the ball. Though naturally this all comes at a cost, upward of £35pp for our meal and drinks.
S. D.
Staff were friendly but got drinks order wrong, couldn't understand English well enough sadly but as the waiter was nice we didn't make a fuss but it was frustrating. Some of the food was nice, my friends enjoyed most of theirs although some portions were a bit lacking. My pork was chewy and I was disappointed having heard good things about the place. Drinks were very expensive especially considering we were given the wrong item!
P. H.
Our regular stop for brunch, dinner or cocktails in Brighton. Always a varied and extensive menu, creative cocktails and a great English breakfast that is excellent value! On each occasion our host and staff are welcoming, friendly and always professional. Highly recommended and we look forward to our next visit. Hopefully something special for Browns' 50th anniversary next year....?

Visited with friends. Great service and lovely food. Only downside is one of my friends has a severe nut allergy, and they won't guarantee nut free food. That said, we ate, enjoyed and she survived!! Would definitely eat here again.

The bar, next to the restaurant is really nice, great cocktails, good service.
I'm only giving it 4 due to the attitude towards clients during the track and trace days. Awful.
The restaurant is nice and the food is good but after eating there a couple of times I just don't feel like going back, it's just a souless place with patronising waiters.
The bar on the other hand has a great atmosphere, well worth visiting.

Booked here last week for a Christmas meal me and my wife with family and had a amazing meal!! We all chose something different of the Christmas meal and it was all perfect!! The atmosphere was lovely it really felt like Christmas and service was good, definitely recommend!! We will be back in January…Amanda & Yasmin 😊

My first time dinning at Browns. I had fish and chips with mushy peas, tartare sauce. It was all well cooked, piping hot like I like it. Quite good for £14.95. Nice atmosphere, helpful staff. They have a smaller Browns a few doors down. Would go again.💜
A. G.
Good service, staff brilliant. Chose Christmas menu and it was delicious.
T. K.
Great food 😋😋 had the Steak and Guinness pie. What a treat 😋
Comfortable surroundings and excellent service provided by Alex who was most knowledgeable of all the dishes on the menu. Lovely young man with great mannerisms and a smile. Top marks and we’ll be back 👍👍👍

The food was good, but the service was not the best. Some delays and missed orders. They seemed a bit slow on bringing the drinks to the table. Not fantastic, but I would still recommend the place.
k. l.
It's a lovely restaurant, the food was very good we both had the salt and pepper squid which was a good portion. I had a rare sirloin steak slightly overdone but no Biggie, the other meal was a chicken schnitzel with fried egg, very nice I was told two soft drinks for around £62. There's only one thing I'd like to see is a larger printed menu, as I'd forgotten to take my glasses with me it was hard to see what I was ordering.
J. K.
We had a wonderful meal here this evening. The food was excellent and the service impeccable. I have to say our wonderful wonderful waitress was up against it. I say this because I saw it not because the service was compromised . All I can say is WOW!!! Chrissie I salute you!!! 👏 absolutely amazing. Rushed off your feet but no attention to detail spared. A true professional. I feel lucky to have had to looking after us. Many many thanks for a wonderful experience 😊 xx

We went for a birthday meal on Monday night and had a blast! Food was great as always, but the highlight was our great server Alessandro who made us feel so welcome and relaxed! Great customer service and humour on point - sorry we didn't save you any cake! Thank you for making our night!
G. A.
Visited for dinner service was a little slow I think they seem understaffed. It wasn't busy when we were there but busy when we left. We ordered the shepards pie and asparagus and butternut curry with tempura prawns both dishes were delicious would totally recommend them. The only gripe was the caramel biscuit torte its not a torte! But a very rich cheesecake (nice but not what I wanted) overall really good food staff are friendly just not enough of them.
S. S.
Firstly, the service was 5*, everyone was so attentive. Whilst waiting for our meals I had a pineapple daiquiri, which was sensational! I ordered the duo of lamb, which consisted of lamb rump, a mini shepherd's pie, cherry tomatoes, peas, onions and spinach with a red wine sauce. Honestly this was absolutely devine. For dessert I had salted caramel profiteroles which were presented beautifully and were delicious! I could not recommend this place more. 100% in love!!!!
L. W.
Cosy venue in the heart of Brighton and a short walk to the Brighton Centre and seafront.
Great service, varied menu, warm and welcoming atmosphere. There is even a Brown's Bar two doors away, for pre / post dining drinks - or just drinks!
We got lucky having rocked up at the restaurant on a Thursday evening without a reservation, but quite a few couples got turned away not long after, so booking in advance is advisable.
R. H.
Good place to watch the world go by in a hot day. Normal browns menu quality .

What can I say if I could have given 10 stars I would have, the food is amazing it was my first time eating at browns,it was a family meal before going to see riverdance.i had prawn cocktail starter followed by half roast chicken with lemon and garlic with vegetables all cooked to perfection followed by dessert.we were served by a lovely waiter called Alex he was so nice as are all the staff nothing is too much trouble.i highly recommended eating here.
J. R.
quite nice food and service was good. However, steak pie not as good as many nice gastro pubs, cramped conditions and decor didn't match the price. It's trying to be a bit too fancy. Crumble wasn't the best either, though they did make the puddings look nice.
I reckon you should stick to afternoon tea here. That looked interesting.
Y. J.
Went lunchtime with no booking but there was plenty of room. My friend and I both had fish and chips, the batter was light and crispy. We didn't have to wait long for the meal. Good point for me, the have a disabled toilet on the ground floor, other toilets are upstairs. Would eat here again.

If you don't mind spending an extra dolla and want to give your taste buds a treat. I highly recommend browns!! Never been disappointed here. Staff are absolutely wonderful, as well as food. Couldn't fault one bit.

Lovely meal b4 a concert ..friendly staff.

A nice evening meal in a somewhat quieter than expected Browns of Brighton.
A menu very much on a par with Cote Brasserie or Cafe Rouge, complimented with a good selection of red, white and rose wines as of course you'd expect.
The restaurant was warm and had a nice ambience with several families, groups and couples enjoying a quiet Sunday evening meal.
The liver parfait was fairly basic for my starter, nothing special and certainly not as nice as the melted camambert. For mains in our group there was a fish pie, very nice, plenty of cheese but a little light on the fish and prawns. I had an 8oz sirloin, cooked just right, rare as requested. Another had the belly pork with a nice piece of crispy crackling and a small apple pie; a nice touch.
Someone else had a fish cake, looked lovely and like all of our meals was impeccably presented.
All of our meals were hot and came together. The waiter was helpful and attentive. My daughter and wife have visited four or five times in recent months, always served by the same waiter, which is really good and nice to see. And Browns is their restaurant of choice when going out for a cosy mum visiting daughter at university evening meal.
I'm beginning to believe however and see that the restaurants on our High Streets' are almost all the same, offering similar menus, at a similar price with an almost identical eating and dining experience. Well at least those that offer a French or European cuisine based theme. The menus are almost replicated from one to the next, maybe with a slight twist. The same of course can be said for many Italian or Far East or Asian restaurants.
It's all very good don't get me wrong, the food is well prepared and more often than not offers good value for money, and whilst this is no criticism of any of the three mentioned above, there is nothing really to set them apart or make one stand out from the other. Maybe this is what's needed to push my review from a three to a four or even a five.
We had a pleasant few hours and enjoyed our visit. It was very relaxed dining which is what you want, not rushed. Just needs a little va va vroom, in a non-motoring, cooking sense of course. The restaurant is very conveniently situated for Brighton Town centre and The Laines.
S. I.
What amazing customer service we had when we ordered two courses and my husband wasn't well after the wine was poured. Nothing was a problem and the staff wouldn't let us pay - thank you Brown's you made a difficult situation easy - much appreciated
C. C.
Great service, the waiter was amazing with the kids and did everything to make our meal there a great experience. He really went above and beyond! Thank you Alex!
S. F.
Little bit disappointing about the slow service, as my friend & I only had a 2 hour slot before getting our bus home.
We managed a main & dessert with a glass of fizz which was very nice

Excellent service from Anna, polite, professional and friendly. Excellent food and a good Sancerre.

Fabulous afternoon tea. Staff very accommodating. Highly recommended.

Cocktails was horrible but the staff was very understanding when we mentioned it and corrected it for us.
Food was ok. The place looked nice and staff was very friendly.

the food was amazing, as expected, what made this visit exceptional was our waitress zone, who was attentive, knowledgeable, funny , helpful and professional. Well done an excellent service and experience.
L. N.
What a wonderful place to eat! We were served by the delightful Chrissie, who went out of her way to ensure we had a great evening. The cocktails were great and the food was delicious.
We'd definitely recommend it.
R. J.
Great place great food and lovely staff well done all of you

A very friendly welcome, a fabulous waiter with a great sense of humour. Slightly disappointed that not all the main dishes were available but not surprising on a hot sunny busy day! Still, we had a delicious meal. Very happy with our lunch out.
M. W.
Love Browns wine bars and this one is one of the best. Antony was a get barman and nothing was to much trouble.
L. M.
Love this place. We had breakfast with Mimosas and went back for Sunday lunch. Fabulous service from fabulous staff. Great food, great location. Definitely going back next time we go to Brighton. Better than Browns in Bluewater!
M. W.
Really exceptional. Food was first class, presented very well with superb quality and flavour. CV19 procedures were explained very clearly by the serving staff who were very attentive throughout service. I have eaten at many Browns locations and this was by far the best experience and meal I have had with their brand. Great job Browns Brighton.

Amazing fresh seefood and lovely staff

Booked a table at Browns of Brighton to celebrate Grandma's 90th birthday. She used to be a regular back in the 1980's and so we were hopeful that the service and reception would still be as welcoming as she remembered all those years ago. We were not disappointed, the staff were friendly, efficient and very respectful. The food was well presented and delicious. The manager arranged for the cake we had made to be prepared with candles and with out any need to preempt assembled the staff and to her surprise delivered the cake to her whilst singing Happy Birthday. Grandma was over the moon! A big thank you to the manager and staff, you made the evening memorable.

Service was good, food ok, we had club sandwich and fries which was filling but at nearly £20 for a sandwich and small beer us expensive.
P. C.
Cocktail bar and the restaurant were very good well worth a visit

Perfect food and very happy to have Alex to look after my friend and me, very polite and with a smile.
Thank you Alex.
J. D.
Fantastic food and service - thank you Anna and the lad working with you for your professional and friendly service!
3 of us had evening dinner - fish pie, linguine and vegetarian curry - and all dishes were so tasty and served hot. Also had Camembert starter to share which came with unusual sides for dipping. We’ll be back👍
M. H.
Excellent Christmas lunch. Service by Chrissie impeccable. They need better/sharper knives for meat though. Nice atmosphere
M. C.
Stop by for a cocktail, delicious espresso martini and the best Bramble I've had in ages. The fro t of house staff were really welcoming and friendly.
D. B.
Great service in a quiet refined atmosphere.

Another lovely meal at Browns. They are consistently good for both food and service. David our waiter was superb. Had the banofee pie for dessert. Great twist.
A. Y.
I had the fish and chips and it was very good!
E. E.
The staff were very good from the start, we went into Brown's for breakfast and it was just perfect I had the gluten free traditional breakfast everything was cooked to a good standard it was very tasty. I would highly recommend Browns it may be a bit expensive for some people but for a special occasion or a treat it is well worth the extra cost

Great place to chill. A classic and classy place to be. One of my favourites. Recommend the wine if you like red. A good way to end a shopping trip.
H. M.
Would not recommend waited a good 30 minutes for food fish batter not cooked chips dry my daughter steak not cooked as asked for
T. W.
Amazing restaurant. I am cealiac. Superb menu and food. 3 visits
J. B.
This is an incredibly pretentious establishment that does not meet the quality it trys to market. Thier cocktails and food are no better than those half the price in Brighton. Service is incredibly slow and not very responsive; took me 30 minutes to pay for my bill. The decor is lovely, but as said, it does not reflect the quality of the food/beverages. Other Brown's establishments throughout the country are better than the one in Brighton, save it for another city.
A. M.
Lovely time had by all that were there staff amazing 👏

Brilliant steak good service .will return.🍾🍾🍾

Ate here tonight. Excellent food and service.
Wine good but overpriced
L. N.
Head waiters' attitude was offish from the start, table waitress made up for it though and was lovely. However, felt constantly rushed and the food although fine was a bit pricey. Then horror, we had a card malfunction ( card machine being tempermental). How that was handled put paid to another trip in the bear future.
L. H.
Excellent breakfast. Quality food, nicely cooked. A quality brasserie. Nice decor too.
A.
Nice place, food was good and service professional and efficient. Because of Covid not all the restaurant was in use, so tables quite close together and it was noisy when we were there.
S. S.
Visited just before Christmas, as a booking for 7 people with two babies. Staff were extremely attentive and friendly, food was excellent and it had a really lovely atmosphere. We ate from a Christmas set menu. Thank you for making an annual reunion for us really enjoyable.
s.
The food ( roast lemon and garlic chicken )was absolutely stunning ... so stunning we didn’t realise we didn’t receive all the trimmings and it was only after we had finished our meals we realised the stuffing was missed off the plate, which we were disappointed not to have received..for £17. The waitress did apologise .
Similarly , we ordered ice cream and the ice cream was quite melted which the waitress advised, But I was surprised the waitress didn’t send it back to ensure we received it as it should have been served . It looked like it had sat waiting in the heat of the day.
So feel short changed , but compliments to the chef!
C. B.
Amazing food, and lovely atmosphere. The waitress could've been a bit more laid back, though. She didn't have to ask us repeatedly if everything was ok. Otherwise, the food was delicious 👌
R. D.
Fantastic meal. Staff amazing and the food was equally so
S. W.
I went there with my family, for an evening dinner. Everything they did was superb, and all standards were extremely high. The staff were amazing, the service was quick and excellent, and the food definitely did not disappoint. I shall definitely be going there again!!
L. G.
Excellent service and food.
Enjoyed the whole experience. The staff are polite and attentive. The tables are spread out and it felt airy and clean.
The food is excellent and of high standard.
M. H.
The staff are absolutely lovely in this bar. Happy to chat but at the same time not intrusive. Helpful and informative. Friendly and inviting. The interior looks fairly polished and the toilets were clean and shiny. Excellent experience
M. R.
We had a lovely meal in here a few weeks ago with a medium sized group. Service was attentive and the food good but not outstanding hence 4 stars. The layout is nice within the venue but try and get a booth as some of the chairs can be a bit uncomfortable.
A. S.
Service was very good , staff very friendly. Food excellent value for money, and very tasty.
K. B.
Great brunch and service. Loved it
O. A.
Food was lovely, fantastic staff and great atmosphere
O. N.
Food was pretty delicious I must say! Lovely moist steak with excellent glass of red wine! Mmmm... Waitress called Phoebe who was such a delight, and great attentiveness about her. All in all 10/10. Definitely will be coming back!
M. I.
Wonderful service from our two waiters. All 4 of us were unanimous in our praise for all courses, the hot sourdough bread with olive oil and the chocolate tort creating the greatest stir! But all dishes fab. Atmosphere great. Can't believe I've never been before. And all for roughly thirty quid a head.
D. W.
Afternoon tea was divine and the service impeccable.
K. C.
My fav place to eat in Brighton. Amazing venue, stunning restaurant! Great cocktails! Friendly welcoming staff and fresh local produce! They have their own farm, so all the meat is fresh. Highly recommend this place!
D.
Overall, it was delicious and decent place. Fish cake was delicious. But entering to the restaurant was a bit strange. The man on the till said one sec but kept us at the entrance 3 minutes while he was doing something with the phone to the scanning machine which I found it rude. Then later we ended up choosing the table ourselves anyway.
U. M.
Great location, staff s bit overwhelmed with the fact that people wanted to come in and use the place as an eatery and to be very frank (some of the stuff) could have been a lot more diplomatic with potential customers........ ........ ..... In my opinion Covid is not an excuse to be short (almost rude) to people asking "have you got a table)..........
Apart from that we had a great time, service -for us - was great and the waiter and bar staff were engaging and entertaining - without question very accomplished at mixing drinks perfectly!
Enjoyed our long lazy afternoon in the establishment!
T. l.
Went with 42 others. Staff were incredibly , friendly and willing to serve. Food was AWESOME. They team had decorated my friends tables (as it was a casual wedding reception) and made everything Perfect. I have to admit, I LOVE BROWNS, been a fan for years and they didn't disappoint on this occasion.
A. H.
Even though this is a chain of restaurants don't let that put you off. The service is great. I have even been with first-time guests that have had special requests fulfilled without any stress. Chrissy and the other team members at the Brighton restaurant always go out of their way to make your meal and experience wonderful. 10/10
S. H.
The staff really looked after us, such great service, delicious drinks snd very tasty food
J. J.
I went with my partner for a dinner yesterday food was nice cocktails 🍸 😋 yummy but absolutely outstanding was a lady called Anna she should teach some other companies staff how waitresing should be done so attentive and polite nothing was trouble for her and despite wearing a mask I could tell she was smiling all the time very satisfied customers and delicious champagne BTW 5*+ will definitely be back and recommending to everyone
M. J.
Excellent menu and food. Would have got 5 stars if I didn't have to wait an hour for my food in an empty restaurant. They did give us a drink on the house though and I didn't even complain.
L.
Brown's is our go to restaurant when we're in Brighton, and we always enjoy the food, and our recent visit was no exception. However, as often happens, the service is not to the standard of a restaurant offering this level of food - and prices. The waiter was friendly, but we were given the wrong menu (had booked lunch, received cream tea menu) there was a misunderstanding with the drinks order which made us feel uncomfortable with how it was dealt with. We asked for water on ordering and didn't receive it. We asked again for the water and then weren't given glasses, so had to ask for them. The people on the table next to us were also having the same problem. We said to each other on leaving, that perhaps we need to look for another restaurant next time, which is a shame.
M. S.
Browns is Browns, reliable good food and good service. Not exceptional, but good
M. R.
Yum yum delicious food
K. G.
Visited on Thursday on a rare escape away from the children with my husband. Luckily it was lobster special night so we had the lobster and fillet steak platter which was exceptional. We also had a rather delicious bottle of Fleurie . Everything was cooked to perfection. The whole team were smiley and courteous throughout . We ordered espresso martini and an after eight cocktail for afters and although they didn’t have the ingredients to make the after eight the barman offered an alternative which was divine.
Thank you
P. N.
No complaints about Brown's . Been going periodically for years - to both the restaurant and the bar. Both have a very nice atmosphere , the staff have always been lovely and my friend and I had it as our afternoon tea place of choice for a few good years, till I moved away. The afternoon tea is good value and I will always pop back in from time to time.
R. L.
Fantastic food and fantastic service I love to visit this establishment every time I vist Brighton
P. H.
Beautiful food with excellent service
P. D.
Wet & bedraggled, I hobbled in on crutches to be met by a young man at the bar (unfortunately I did not get his name). He was very welcoming & sat me in a warm, quiet corner . My waitress Anna was likewise and whilst giving me privacy was also observant to my needs...The food was superb & I ate there twice, during my short stay in Brighton.
C. P.
Absolutely beautiful food and service, recommend it to anyone to pay them a visit
S. C.
Great food. Hard working staff.
C. G.
Great service, lovely food. Chrissie was our sever and very attentive. Good advice on menu choices and made sure we didn't have an empty glass all evening. Thank you!
J. H.
Ultimately depends when you go in but generally a nice relaxed place for a cocktail and nibbles. Went in the other day and it was a bit loud and not very well heated but think that was a one off. Staff are usually decent. I'd recommend.
J. M.
Service and food was good, a pleasant place to eat.
V. L.
The Old Fashioneds we ordered were good! The service was less than impressive. No table service even though you pay £10 a drink. Tables dirty and covered in crockery from previous diners even though the place wasnt even busy. The man behind the bar wasnt in the slightest bit friendly or welcoming. It's the first time I've been to Browns in a long time... I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon
E. J.
Service was great, really polite and efficient. Food was a tasty, on the expensive side. Loved the onion, shallot & armagnac tartin; deliciously savoury and sweet
J. B.
Food? Perfect? Atmosphere? Perfect. Service? Perfect. Would have to recommend the fillet steak. Absolutely sublime. Great selection of both food and drink. Came for the other halfs birthday and had a blast. Would definitely recommend and go again
K. G.
So, I haven't been here before but always walked past. With my best friend today so thought we should try it. I had scallops to start, these were cooked to perfection, had the tuna nicose for main, and what a let down. Dry tuna, and a bowl full of lettuce and no eggs as described on the menu! Wouldn't rush back.
A. C.
A nice but unremarkable place really. The food was of a decent standard but not exceptional. We did visit quite late in the evening so I can understand why some of their menu had run out and the wait was quite long. They did get my steak order slightly wrong. Some of the waiting staff were a bit rude and somehow out of keeping with the smart place. Probably not worth what we paid but by no means bad.
D. F.
Lovely food and good service.

We had a great time at Browns. We came with a two locals and we had a surprise birthday celebration. Our waiter was really nice and gave me recommendations on everything from wine to dessert. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. We plan on making the trip down from London to Brighton again because we enjoyed our time so much.
R. S. A.
Good food and great atmosphere. Staff were pleasant and very helpful especially Chrissie, who went out of her way to find us a table on a fairly busy Friday evening without a booking. Thanks again Chrissie. Will definitely return
A. W.
With Ivy Brighton Branch opening nearby, I was a tad concerned for this place. Anyway, after this visit I was reasonably reassured. Tall, thin waiter was very pleasant, although short, blonde waitress was a little short in her tone. Food was good though, and I do like the overall atmosphere.
P. S.
I'm giving a 5 because the service and food was amazing. Really well cooked tasty food. The only slight thing I will say is the portions could be a tad bigger. Other than that thumbs up.
A. R.
All of the COVID precautions are in place. Otherwise it is normal Browns, nice food and pleasant setting. Relaxed service and nice staff.
J. L. R.
Lovely drinks, very tasty bar snacks but food was late

Dinner Sunday 25 Nov. Nice food, very good staff and a really pleasant environment. Delightful evening. Last ate at Brown's just before we moved from Sussex in 1980. Will try not to leave it another 38 years as I'll be 104.
G. H.
Good meal and waitress very nice
J. R.
Whenever we visit Brighton we make a point of having lunch at Browns. Lovely food, nice setting, Browns always delivers on those fronts. The particular waitress we had on our most recent visit wasn't great but the rest of the staff were as wonderful as usual.
L. W.
Lovely place food great. Steak was to die for. A little pricey. We paid £96 for a starter main and coffee and two drinks for two people.( But I did have steak which is the dearest on menu)
S. M.
We had dinner at Browns last week in Brighton and not only has the food been excellent, In particular Anna could not have been more helpful. In fact every one has been excellent. I would certainly recommend.
D. E.
Stopped for a drink and sat outside on a hot afternoon. Nice Polish girl served us (didn't get her name) who chatted with my young kids. Nice place
S. C.
Had lunch for two, seated outside up against the open window. Food and drinks were fine, and service was very well presented, just a little slow and inefficient (had to ask repeatedly for water, drinks ordered but came after the food, etc).
Lovely interior and great location, just don't be in a rush when you eat here!
C. L.
Small portions of foods that aren't quite great. Smoked haddock fish cakes were almost all potato for instance. The apple crumble was small, dry, and had too little sandy crumble. Service was decent
I. P.
The pork belly is the most deliciously, succulent and tasty meal......and was made even better with a birthday Bloody Mary, followed by a bottle of Prosecco and finished off with the most amazing espresso martini!!! Highly recommend...... if you don't eat here... you're mad!!
N. A.
Not perfect (lobster risotto and baked salmon) but a good workman like effort at a very busy time. Glad they fitted us in. Staff pleasant and helpful
S. M.
Food was disappointing. The steak pie was served as a pub meal of 20 years ago, in a casserole dish with a puff pastry lid. Chicken and Avocado salad had no breast meat just small bits of leg and underside plus an unexpected bit of bone! Told the manager it was disappointing but the nanager was totally uninterested. However the waiter who served us was very pleasant and efficient. Will think twice before going back. Also mens toilets dirty.
R. L.
definitely an upmarket restaurants just off the lanes in Brighton. We came here for a very special family dinner and were not disappointed in the slightest. The food is fantastic, served piping hot, with large portions. Get the Sunday Roast if you there on a Sunday afternoon.
S. M.
I've hosted many candle light suppers in my day and Browns is the closest to one of my nights.
It was a family event, my daughter Sophie is off travelling to Asia so we all got together to wish her farewell. Kevin & Jack loved the desserts.
L. S.
The Service was pleasant and efficient. Unfortunately the Glasses were dirty .The Food was okay , however the salad with my Girlfriend's Steak was tasteless. The Chips with my Fish were good.
B. L. B.
Honestly I was disappointed by the quality of the food for such a high price. I had the risotto and thought it had hardly any flavour or seafood in it. Good vegan options for my friend however and the staff were quick and friendly. Maybe just one bad dish!
A. b.
Lovely place,lovely food
R. W.
Nice restaurant, good food, bit pricey.
M. L.
We arrived in Brighton for a concert and had just over an hour to kill before the show so decided to grab a quick bite to eat at Brown's.
Having been to a couple of others in the chain I wasn't expecting the experience to be as good as it was. The decor lent no clue to the fact it is a chain restaurant, it had the feel of a one off with a fairly large yet still cosy floorplan.
Service was good, we were given a choice of seating area and our waiter (Maz) was polite and attentive, suggesting accompaniments to actually suit our choices rather than sounding as though he was just trying to up sell on sides.
Food was good, again exceeding my expectations from other Brown's outlets. Presentation was thoughtful and rivaled that of much more expensive places I have eaten.
All told a good solid 4* experience. Two mains with drinks came in at just under forty quid.
W. S. M.
Absolutely stunning venue, food is amazing, staff very professional. Cocktails are a must. You will be full when you leave this place, great value for money ! I recommend the Afternoon Rebalance cocktail, alcohol free, perfect with brunch after a night out 😉
a. n.
Only bar area. Slow service. Nice bar. Disabled toilets a disgrace. Lack of toilet paper taps literally hang of the basin. Could do with a overhaul and a good cleaning. There are steps one has to negotiate to get to the disabled toilets?
A. W.
Awesome cocktails. Beautiful Bar. Love it.
D. M.
I thought Brown was a bit pricey to say the least. I chose salmon for the main course but the portion was small so very disappointing. The desserts were pricey, especially the apple tart which was a hefty £8.25! I doubt if l would bother going to Brown's again.
M. T.
Had s great meal tonight, hasn't always been the case. Baked camembert was brilliant, good steak, made all the better by our server Cassie
A. F.
Very slow service, my food order was wrong but I didn't complain or change it as it already took long to arrive. When asking to order dessert we were forgotten and then when asking to pay told the person would come back with the card machine only for them to disappear so we asked again.
Yep, it's Saturday and it's busy but that's not an excuse for poor quality service
M. C.
We popped in to Browns on Monday at around 2pm and both ordered the beetroot hummus with asparagus, avocado, quinoa and edamame beans salad. It was delicious and the service very good.
However, the whole experience was spoilt by the unhygienic state of the restaurant ,in particular the state of the ladies' toilet which was, at best, grubby! The door handles were sticky, the wooden panels in the ash room area were stained and dusty (nothing a bacterial spray and a wet cloth would not have cleaned) and the carpet just outside was extremely dirty. I tend to judge the hygiene of a restaurant by the state of its toilets and sadly, this one was 3/10.
Despite the excellent food, I would not wish to return because of the uncleaniless.
N. R.
My steak was a bit burnt, but everything together it was a very nice dinner.
V. M.
Busy but welcoming...fish pie was really nice. Husband had the pork which he really enjoyed. Starters ....mushrooms on brioche was more brioce than mishrooms but apparently very tasty, my asparagus and parma ham was nice . Lovely house rose at a good price. Altogether a vedy enjoyable experience.
R. Y.
Run down and a bit shabby. The food was average but not bad. The service was excellent though. It was courteous and they moved our table without quibbling to a better one.
E. B.
It's not Browms fault I've marked 4 not 5 stars...great cocktails, attentive staff, relaxed atmos...just need a little more liveliness...and thats up to us...not Browns. I call it the Covid dampening affect.
A. P.
Always a pleasurable experience here.
J. D.
As four Americans who never before experienced afternoon tea we were unsure, but the staff was understanding and helped us have a wonderful time. We loved all the food, tea, and service.
M. B.
Nice food but stuck at back, when everywhere at front was empty, next to a table where a member of staff was wrapping cutlery and serviettes - felt like 2nd class customers
P. T.
Lots of deals but you have to be careful to follow the terms to the letter. Lovely cocktails and great service. We prefer the small bar rather than the restaurant.
C. F.
Nice surrounding, decor. We had the light menu which had a good variety of choice. Food was good. Great service, would go back.
T. T.
Absolutely wonderful atmosphere, brilliant cocktails, and wonderful food. The original and still the best. For a high-class evening that is not too snobby or expensive, Browns is the place.
M. B.
Lovely dinner with friends. Amazing food, lovely service.
C. W.
Great food nice menu nothing flash just good wholesome food. Lovely staff very polite and friendly. Value for money well definitely come here again
L. T.
Excellent food Excellent staff especially zoe the waitress
J. C.
Really good food, nice staff but...gents toilets, unpleasant, £4.80 for a bottle of water, service charge automatically added. Could do better.
A. B.
Really good food and service. Negroni is amazing and Jeni took really good care of our party even if it was a quiet sunday night.
Will definitively go back again.
J. R.
Always classy, friendly and efficient staff and today the fish balls at the bar/wine bar annex were exceptional. Atmospheric. Well done staff.
C. R.
Not cheap but excellent quality of food, wine & service
C. L.
Went here after not being allowed in to the Ivy to have cocktails and good thing to as not been here for a long time, the Christmas decorations were fab and the atmosphere was wonderful I will be returning, Staff were Friendly and we had a great time, Needless to say I will be coming here and NOT the Ivy, They made the right decision for me :-)
A. C.
Not as good as the Cambridge branch, but still okay... we went in the IVY for cocktails as the bar was not so busy and the drinks came quicker
R. S.
You can always rely on Browns to be busy at around 5 onwards at the weekends. You can also rely on it being a good mix of ages and they make good quality cocktails.
T. M.
Great service, very attentive. Delicious food cooked perfectly, and the value you'd expect from a Browns.
K. R.
We had the afternoon tea and it was delicious. The staff were friendly and professional it was a very nice afternoon, highlight of our trip to Brighton.

P. G.
Whether you want cocktails or drinks, a coffee or food in the restaurant, Brown's is a Brighton institution. The afternoon tea is amazing, the food menu is good and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
P. M.
Good staff, but fairly ordinary menu with strong whiff of microwave. Trendy atmosphere doesn't compensate for poor quality food
P. P.
Perfect food and staff. Evrethings all good

J. Q.

A. L.
Service was very slow and the food wasn't upto par!! Had to send chips back as very over cooked which left us with steak going cold whilst new batch of chips cooked
P. H.
Excellent food and service. Little bit pricey, hence the 4 stars, otherwise couldn't fault it
C. C.
Service was great but the food was a little overcooked. My blue stake came out medium which was unfortunate.
J. C.
Excellent service and tasty cocktails
J. W.
Delicious cocktails and beverages at great rates for the quality of the drinks and service, coupled with a brilliantly relaxed atmosphere. Would recommend.

L. W.
Food so delicious and staff super friendly and helpful
D. P.
Ok as a stop for a bit of pub style food and a beer. Food ok at best, but don't expect A1 quality. It's the old adage you get what you pay for.
I. F.
Great meal from the lunch/early evening menu. Perfect steak and fries. Had a gin and elderflower posset. Bang on for £15 3 courses.
J. B.
