Reviews of Kindling Restaurant
I. V. P.
Phenomenal food, beautiful calm and airy environment, outstanding service. We were a group of 4 and all ordered different things so we got a good taste of nearly the full menu and everything was delicious. Also it’s an absolute treat watching the chefs cook in the open kitchen. Overall an amazing experience will definitely return.
P. S.
We went on New Years Eve, and had the most amazing evening. The food was beyound delicious. We chose a counter seat and the chefs explained every dish, shared stories and made us feel so welcome. The meal was brilliant value for money for NYE and took the form of an 11 course tasting menu. Will definitely be back.

Michelin-star standard food & service at wallet-friendly prices! The place to be if you are ever at Brighton! Locally sourced produced, prepared ever so professionally by the kitchen team! Sit by the bar and see it for yourself if you doubt this review! Will be back the next time if I do get to come to Brighton again!

Amazing food. I am very fussy with my food but there was nothing I didn't like here or wasn't tempted by when I saw it cooking. 10 stars!! We sat at the bar so we spoke to the chef's all evening, they told us about the food and lots of other conversations. An all round amazing night and would highly recommend to anyone after a nice dinner out.
E. P.
You MUST try this amazing food if you are around. I didn’t expect the food to be sooo tasty and fresh. The staff was soo welcoming. I normally live in London, but I am willing to travel again just to try this food again. It is indeed an explosion of savour.
A. N.
Absolutely outstanding, we couldn't fault anything in the menu, and we had a substantial amount of it. The mutton, duck, hake, trout, chocolate ganache, Brussels sprouts, the broccoli amuse buche, everything left us speechless. We will definitely be back!
K. W.
What a gem! Extraordinary food at a highly reasonable price point. The ingredients tended to be simple, but the treatment was consistently subtle and delicate. The genius was in the details of flavour and texture: balance between the foamy aerated potato and the crunchy puffed rice, seasoning of the mutton chop, sprinkles on the gem lettuce… The grilled king oyster mushroom was my favourite; it was the most impressive dish I had had in a long while. The service was also friendly and very attentive. The restaurant alone provides enough reason to revisit Brighton.
I give five stars quite often, so this should be seven stars!

I took my partner here to celebrate her birthday and it was one of the best eating experiences we have had. The food was out of this work nice, so eloquently presented, and cooked to perfection. To complement the food, the staff were so attentive, and really passionate in explaining the menu which helps us choose. We sat at the bar so were able to watch the cooking which was so cool. I cannot recommend this place enough. The food and the staff are pure class.
C. B.
We had a great visit here. The whole experience was fabulous, from the friendly and knowledgeable team through to the outstanding food and drink. What a treat!
T. W.
We had an awesome lunch! Fabulous welcome and friendly service.. really great ingredients and a wonderfully imaginative menu! Loved the pork chop and the cauliflower small plate and actually everything! Wine list is well thought through..thank you David and Lee and rest of the team! We will be back!

My partner took me to Kindling for my birthday back in December. It was an incredible experience, a truly special evening. The food was exquisite, and the staff were warm and attentive. They went out of their way to make everything perfect. We sat at the bar so we could watch the cooking take place - it was amazing to watch the chefs in action, and so much fun chatting with them and asking questions. I cannot recommend Kindling enough - everyone should go!
B. T.
We've had a great dinner experience here. They make seasonal, local and creative food and every dish is excellent. It was also nice sitting at the bar watching how our food was made - and chatting to the chefs.
I'd highly recommend to anyone who enjoys local & a little experimental food. We are already planning our next visit.
P. K.
We had high expectations for this restaurant given the reviews. The food was nice but not quite the spectacular wow factor we were looking for based on the prices. The desserts were unfortunately way off the mark - balance of flavours completely wrong which was incredibly disappointing again given all of the reviews. The service was also very slow - starters received over an hour after we arrived for our booking - this isn’t acceptable for this standard of restaurant. Overall, slightly higher quality food than a pub minus the dessert of course and the service needs work.
M. H.
Came for my partner's birthday lunch and had a really good time. The dishes were all of a very high quality, and really showcased a lot of local food, and the talent of the chefs. The wait staff were beyond amazing, catering for our every need and making us feel at home instantly.
R. M.
We went here to celebrate my birthday. Plate after plate was absolutely amazing. The photos don’t do it justice at all.
We’ve only just left and are already planning a trip back.
M. N.
Went for my partner’s birthday and it was the most amazing meal we had ever eaten. The staff were so lovely and they have a gorgeous selection of wines. Cannot wait to go back and try a new menu. Would recommend highly - a perfect dining experience!
N. M.
We went there for lunch, great service, atmosphere and food. Every dish was good, but absolutely loved hake and pork dishes. Great balance of flavours. Will definitely be coming back.
V. M.
Lovely restaurant fabulous staff. Menu selection is small but everything is cooked to perfection. As well as set menu also had specials of the day. Good wine selection and cocktails. Definitely recommend.
M. G.
Creative and tasty food, friendly chefs and service!
While my fish was somewhat too salty I would still recommend the place, and will come back for dinner one day.
T. T.
What an amazing restaurant! All the staff were helpful and friendly. The best thing is my Sister in law could choose anything off the menu without worrying if there was gluten in it. We'll definitely be back.
K. J.
Just fabulous! Really interesting food with a great cocktail list and some cool natural wines. BBQ cabbage and brown butter Plaice were unreal. Get a seat at the bar if you can, the chefs are lovely and took time to answer all our questions. A must do if you're in Brighton and into food
A. L.
Such a wonderful experience!
What a lovely feast!
I’ve been to many restaurants, but Kindling just won all points!
Friendly, attentive, nice service from two lovely gentlemen; very high quality food, can tell the difference as soon as you taste it.
They make many things by themselves even though just a small pickle or side of butter.
Every small thing matters.
Will definitely go back when I have a chance to travel in Brighton.
S. K.
I had been looking forward to going for months and they did not disappoint at all. The flavour for every dish was spot on, each ingredients wasn't too exotic (which for me personally sometimes puts me off) but what came was far more than I imagined them to taste like. The Brussel sprouts with miso mayo was so good that even though I don't like them, I LOVED this version and if you're lucky to have the sheep's cheese on your menu, DEFINITELY order that - the right balance of sweetness from the honeycomb and cheese with the sharpness of frozen raspberries was just so good thinking about it, I could have another one!
J. B.
A wonderful place to sit and watch the ageing mods taking photo shoots of Quadraphenia Alley opposite. The food is undeniably superb. Small quantities but five hundred per cent full of flavour. Fine wine. Good service. Pleasant atmosphere.
C. D.
My wife and I had a lovely meal at Kindling. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the food was divine, and the atmosphere was great. Not the cheapest night out, but you definitely get what you pay for!
A. G.
We were lucky enough to catch Kindling on a quiet night and so were able to sit at the counter and both watch our meal being prepared but also chat with the chefs. It was a brilliant way to get to know more about the restaurant: their zero-waste ethos and their experimental style. It also meant they snuck us little tasters of other starters, desserts and their coffee-infused brandy. For starters we had the Cured Chalk Farm Trout with elderberry pickle and fermented apple (zesty and fresh) and the Grilled leeks, fried egg, smoked almonds and parmesan (deliciously smokey and salty. For main we had the Baked potato gnocchi, oyster mushroom and crown prince squash (rich and creamy) and the Grilled sussex carrots, panisse, cashew cream and roasted chickpeas (lightly curried and crunchy - probably our favourite). For dessert we shared the carrot cake tiramisu. An incredible meal, brilliant service and all-in-all an amazing experience. Highly highly recommend
A. L.
A wonderful dinner, excellent food and service with an innovative menu. The hispi cabbage and Eton mess were unexpected highlights aswell- only recommendation would be to ensure the fish portions are more reasonable, the serving of wild bass was delicious but on the small side.
F. G.
Went for lunch with my partner on Saturday and without hesitation we were welcomed and given a choice of tables, the service was exemplary and could not be faulted.
Every single question was answered, the knowledge the team had of each of the products used was astounding, it was a pure delight each time one of the two chefs turned round to give an answer as both of them obviously enjoyed imparting their knowledge to enquiring minds.
Each and every single dish (even the ones destined for other diners) looked and smelt amazing, even when Toby was grilling off something as simple as garlic (and we'd had our full of food) our mouths watered and we instantly stuck our heads up like meerkats and asked what he was cooking!
My partner had the pork meatballs with buttered mash, I had the marinated Nutbourne tomatoes with a wild garlic pesto, we shared a portion of fries with Kindling ketchup (made using the above mentioned tomatoes), we had a side of the soda bread and homemade butter, we could not fault a thing.
The desserts are worth a mention in their own paragraph, Holly's meringues were the best and honestly not much more could be said, the Eton mess was literally divine! My dessert, I was waiting in anticipation as I'd seen it on the menu and had decided it needed to be mine, the chocolate cake, with a salted caramel sauce and chocolate shards with popcorn and a chocolate sorbet was the best I'd ever had, each bit took me back to a different memory and gave me a warm hug, I didn't even ask who made it so I cannot actually say but it was definitely without doubt the best.
The cocktails are also worth a mention, their approach is unique and it works!
We will be coming back to Kindling and can wholeheartedly recommend them, thank you for such an amazing dining experience, kudos to you and what seems like an excellent team.
S. H.
Can't fault this place.
Mescal cocktail one of the best I've had in years and incredibly knowledgeable barman.
Food was just immense. All food was gluton free and you would never know. Went totally vegan ( I'm a meat eater) with a cauliflower starter (delicious) followed by the tomato and Jerusalem artichoke main course, which was out of this world. Beyond tasty. Pudding was a gluton free sponge cake with chocolate ice cream,
dont even ask me how they managed to make it taste this good with no gluton, the chef is a genius. Highly recommended this place. Only mild criticism is the resturant is very stark it needs darker walls and lower lighting. Will be back.
N. C.
Delicious food, fresh and full of flavour. Friendly staff and excellent wine. A perfect choice for our evening out together.
A. A.
Came here on a recommendation and it was phenomenal - probably the best restaurant I’ve been to in Brighton, certainly up there.
- the waiter was knowledgeable and really knew about each dish in detail
S. L.
Stumbled across this place for lunch yesterday. I can't think of a better meal I've had recently. I could have eaten everything on the menu and there are heaps of vegetarian options. The taste and presentation were both beautiful. The wines were delicious. The service was perfect. 🤩
S. B.
A very unassuming place that serves fresh, sustainable, tasty food. We had the chef table so could see our food being cooked. Definitely try this place when you’re in the area.
A. H.
Lovely new restaurant in Brighton's South Lanes... Small plates, sharing plates, grilled meat and fish and veg.... Really tasty dishes, cleverly created and full of flavours. Friendly staff, a la carte and very reasonable set menu for lunch. Extensive wine list and friendly staff... Oh and the owners (Jane and Ramin) used to own Food For Friends.... Similar quality and innovation of dishes but with meat and fish added to the menu!!!! Food is foraged and everything is used in a sustainable fashion... So very Brighton!!! Love this place....😋😋😋
D. M.
To be honest, when we passed by the window we were not that hungry. However, the restaurant looked so beautiful from outside that we decided to have a taste at this brand new place... we could not avoid it. Only one word can describe our experience: WOW ! We are both in the food industry and were so impressed about the hospitality we felt from the first second. Philipp has been amazing from A to Z. Even Swiss Palaces cannot offer the same service. We had the chance to be served as well from Jane and Ramin, very lovely and attentive about their restaurant. However, with Philipp in service they can sleep very peacefully 😊 And then the kitchen, it is very nice to have the chefs under our nose and eyes. We loved to see the youngest chef at the pass giving order to The Chef that day - Holly. The food was amazing. The plates were so fresh and accurate. We can assure you that If we were living in Brighton we would come back every week. Anyway, amazing experience which we can only highly recommend !!! Hope to be back soon !!
Best wishes from Lausanne, Switzerland 🇨🇭

Nice decour, good atmosphere and good food. Some dishes were a little underwhelming but when they got it right it was great. Carrot dish, lamb shank, venison, halibut and sea bass v good. Roast cauliflower, salt baked celeriac, pork Belly disappointing. Overall though great drinks friendly staff. Enjoyable but expensive night out.
D. G.
Delightful restaurant serving delicious food you really can feel good about. Everything you eat has a story: locally sourced; in-season produce; innovative flavours.
Visited for lunch, we went for the Taster Menu and decided on the vegetarian option throughout. The imaginative presentation of tasty seasonal vegetable dishes gave us a memorable meal of many courses.
The space is cozy with 45 covers and a kitchen right in the centre so you can watch the chefs prepare food.
Ramin and Jane have a friendly team who I sensed really care about the experience. I look forward to returning.
R. H.
Superb food in pleasant surroundings with an emphasis on nature. The secret is that everything on the menu is gluten-free but with absolutely no compromise in flavour. Only recently opened but already easily one of the best restaurants in Brighton.
J. S.
Me and my husband went in there on a Saturday evening, the whole experience was amazing. Food there was great, and the service was fantastic. Love the whole ethical and locally sourced food too! Highly recommended!
N. M.
Went for lunch the food was fabulous. Staff were super attentive and knowledgeable. The Eton Mess was an utter joy, some of the very best merengue.
N. C.
We are here last night and have not stopped talking about how amazing the food was. The experience was also spectacular.
We were a couple celebrating a birthday and came all the way from London for something special, and we found it.
Service was impeccable, even asking for wines to be paired because I couldn’t do it myself.
The restaurant has a wonderful energy and atmosphere. I cannot recommend here enough. Thank you to all the staff for making our trip to Brighton wonderful.
a. b.
Absolutely amazing! Best meal I have ever had my entire life! The flavours were out of this world! They took it to the next level! Everything from cocktails, starters, mains, sides and desserts were absolutely bursting with umami! As a chef myself I was absolutely floored. Made my birthday even more memorable and special ❤ Staff were amazing as well as the chefs who are just geniuses!
V. B.
There is a real effort on the food (creative, seasonal, well executed) and some of the dishes were really good (the brandade in particular) but the fact that the owner appeared to be totally upset by children despite the restaurant being 3/4 empty made the experience far less pleasant than it could have been.
s. d.
The food was very tasty but seriously the portions were really too small . Luckily one of our party eats like a sparrow and another wasn’t feeling too well so wasn’t hungry . But for the price (£11 for a tiny bowl of Ragu … maybe three or four mouthfuls ) and 2 sprigs of cauliflower for £9 was ridiculous . They would still make a good mark up if they gave double the quantity . Tasty but very poor value especially if you are hungry . Wine was lovely .
A. M. W.
Very friendly staff. The food is good! Ask for the daily specials.
J. K.
This restaurant run by chef and Nutritional expert, Holly Taylor, is one of the most incredible eating experiences we’ve had in a while. Everything was seasonal and freshly sourced and made and flavours were mixed that wouldn’t be expected that tasted incredible (ie: the sheep cheese desert mixed with white chocolate and raspberries). I took my teenage daughters (we all know what teenager palates can be like) and even they were raving! Everything was incredibly and perfectly cooked to the ideal tenderness (ie: the mutton was wow). The sorbet desert was delectable and my daughters loved the cod and aubergine starter. The icing on the cake was how dog friendly they were. It was definitely one of the favourite stops on our quick visit to Brighton!
B. H.
Great place. Lovely decor and service. Had amazing roasted cauliflower with macadamia nuts. Lovely cava & rhubarb cocktail too. Roughly £20 for two courses
D. C.
Excellent new restaurant in Brighton. We had a lovely set lunch here. Friendly staff, nice modern vibe.

Belated Valentine’s Day celebration evening. Absolutely incredible amuse bouche (pictured), so fresh and bursting with flavour. There was a slight mix up with our mains but the restaurant dealt with it with such ease, we ended up enjoying an unexpected but delicious mutton dish (we were skeptical about mutton to start with (neither of us had tried before) but it was ridiculously tender and melted in the mouth). AND we got to try to Monkfish (originally ordered) as well, which was equally as delicious. All in all a wonderful night - the chefs and waiters really made our evening through their excellent service with lovely personalised touches. Thank you so much, we really look forward to visiting again soon!!
a.
The food at this restaurant was incredible. The ethos behind their cooking is based on fresh, seasonal food and sourced ethically and locally - you can taste the care they put into each dish. Some unusual and interesting flavour from the innovative chefs make this a wonderful culinary experience.
Service is also outstanding and would like to specifically mention Ben and Jasmine who served us for my birthday meal - very friendly, polite and attentive! Thank you very much.
G. C.
One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Had absolutely no complaints. Wine pairing was beautiful and the food is locally produced, changes with seasons and both my partner and I found the food amazing to say the least.
A. S.
Brilliant restaurant. Wonderful attentive staff. The food is very fresh and delicious. Taste of kindling menu for the win!!!
A. D.
Really excellent medium plates for a tasty selection to share or a a light bite. Loved the ex-dairy beef burger and will return for the 500g sharing steak. Possibly the best skin on fries I've ever eaten, and some really good olives. Also impressed with the drink options, had a couple of very refreshing cocktails on a hot summer day.
Desert choices limited but the Eaton mess was delicious.
Well worth a visit, great place to eat and pretty good value too.
C. O.
I had a very pleasant experience. Great food (british, as in restaurant description) and good service! My partner and I shared 2 veggie starters, a very tasty lemon sole, 2 veggie sides and a dessert. Apart from the addition of specials to the a la carte menu, I really appreciated the choice of non-alcoholic cocktails! Recommended.
G. S.
Top class meal and very friendly and helpful chefs.
We sat at the bar watching the chefs which was a great experience. All of the food was excellent, especially the trout ceviche, retired dairy beef, brill and jersey royals. The drinks were also very good.
Will definitely be returning when next in Brighton.
R. R.
Incredibly delicious
This was amazingly tasty sensation, I found it be a very good experience with tentative service and very covid ready. My only complaint is the portion size left me a little hungry, but other than that it was wonderful
R. H.
The menu was unique and the food was delicious. The staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend.
J. A.
Had high hopes based on other reviews but food was unfortunately disappointing. Mutton dish ordered was £22 and the quality of the meat was so poor as to be inedible
F.
Food was nice but not amazing. Good beef but too salty. The other main I had included roast artichokes but the artichoke pieces were quite bland and didn't really mesh well with the rest of the plate.
Nice decor but lit a bit too brightly for my taste.
J. B.
The Service is amazing, the food is delicious.
The menu is suitable for a gluten free diet.
I. M.
Had a very pleasant Saturday afternoon long lunch here - great food, some excellent beers, and a light, open atmosphere. Particularly loved the pork loin and also the roasted cauliflower! Pretty reasonably priced too.
R.
Sadly the food didn’t live up to its menu description. There were well thought out dishes but we not having the same food taste experience of other reviewers.
Portion sizes were on the small size - rather akin to a tasting menu experience. Don’t recommend if you want a hearty meal.
M. J.
I came back to Brighton as my friends from LA where travelling here. I'd never heard of this place but I'm glad we booked. I think the owners are the chefs and the waiter makes a great Mezcal cocktail one of the tastiest I've had we were all ordering it by the end. You can tell they really care about this place and alot of love is put into the food. My main was cooked very well and the bread and butter basket was devine. Probably this and Banqueno were the best restaurants of the trip. They even ended the dinner with a sweet treat and I really liked the home made mayo.
D. G.
Adding my 2 cents to its already flawless reputation, Kindling is the sort of food and service you feel is worth every penny you have. One of the top places in my opinion doing great things with seasonal produce and making sure any and everyone stepping into their restaurant experiences the love for food and attention to detail that the restaurant practices.
P. B.
Excellent restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. Small plates with really tasty food. Good friendly service. (Sit near the window to watch the mods gather outside Quadrophenia Alley opposite the restaurant. Great for people watching.)
J. C.
Got there feeling thirsty, asked for some water and was given a jug of warm water, we asked for some ice and were given a glass with a few cubes.
Bad start !!!!!
L. T.
Fabulous dining experience. The best we've had all year. The presentation and taste was exquisite. And a very reasonable price. Loved it!
A. N.
Staff were lovely and knowledgeable. Food was delicious and we were offered some free amuse bouche also.
S. H.
A flawless lunch. Beautiful flavours delivered from a knowledgeable but unpretentious team.
e. f.
Top late Sunday lunch with hubby and Lulu sausage dog. Just delicious and a really interesting orange wine 😋🍷
S. F.
Went for dinner and had one of the best meals we've had in a very long time. We went for the taste of kindling menu, highly recommended. Each course was brought out and explained by the friendly, very knowledgeable and attentive FOH team. Stand out dishes for us were the beef rump with the beef shin which was outstanding, the fish and salad courses were both excellent as well.
The cocktails were unusual but super tasty and wine list is well thought out and priced well.
Will definitely be back!
C. K.
Been excited to try this restaurant & our 1st visit did not disappoint! We went for lunch & enjoyed a selection of plates to share. The food was all beautifully presented, really well balanced & cooked to perfection. The chefs clearly know what they are doing. Great wine selection & the service was excellent, knowledgeable, friendly & attentive. We'll definitely be back for dinner soon!!
J. B.
We had a wonderful meal here last weekend, our final meal out before the second UK lockdown. The food, wine, ambience and service were all 10 out of 10. We were particularly impressed with the welcoming and attentive yet relaxed service, particularly as the staff were awaiting the announcement of the lockdown that evening.
It was fantastic value too for the quality of the food and experience. We will definitely be back when restaurants reopen!
L. R.
Absolutely loved our lunch yesterday at Kindling. Best food we have had in Brighton for a long time. We selected the tasting menu paired with wine and it was all exceptional. All locally sourced and in season. Service was friendly and professional and the chefs are clearly passionate about the food they produce. It was a pleasure to watch them cooking for us with such great care and attention to detail. We'll be back!
c. p.
We ate at Kindling on Friday evening. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The place is stylish and welcoming as are the incredibly attentive staff. We had only veggie food which was spectacularly tasty with a range of delicious and interesting flavours. A wonderful white negroni cocktail started us off and the drinks list provided a quality array of wines to wash our food down.
Would absolutely recommend this new venue on East Street as a place to put your meal at the centre of your night out.
B. A.
Food was really nice and the cocktails were too. Service was ok. Overall environment was ok too - it was nice and clean but we didn't feel that the environment matched the food. Worth a visit but with a few improvements, we felt it could be very good.
I. M. T. B.
Amazing service and fantastic locally sourced produce. I would highly recommend 👌
M. M.
This restaurant is well worth a visit, the food was excellent and the service too. The staff are very friendly and gave us lots of information regarding the resort. Thanks for a great evening.
J. G.
Unfortunately Kindling missed the mark on a lot of things. Service felt awkward, staff weren’t really engaging but they didn’t have an issue popping out to see chat to friends walking past and we were the only customers in there (to be fair it was lunch time during coronavirus everywhere was super quiet). Food was under seasoned, quite simple and presentation was lacking. Just felt the food wasn’t well thought out and there was no added value to any dish. Really disappointed and underwhelmed as the restaurant presented as high value in its prices and fit out, but just missed the mark. Couldn’t fault the wine, It was delicious.
i. m.
An amazing add to Brightons eclectic food scene. Totally laid back vibe... come as you are.. Wonderfully cooked, food. Creative without being pretentious. Friendly and competent staff. More than worth what you`ll need to pay for what you`re getting. And there is something special here that im still trying to work out. Absolutely ticked all the boxes for us 3 foodies, and it also ticked some boxes that I didn`t, and still don`t, know were there. Excellent!
J. H.
absolutely decadent from start to finish without pretentiousness.
the atmosphere was welcoming and friendly, as were the staff.
we had the Valentine's day menu and every dish came with a complimentary wine and was discussed with us by the knowledgeable staff.
would absolutely recommend without hesitation.
M. P.
Enjoyed a very special meal here last night. I've not experienced degustation style fine dining, and we were really impressed with the selection of dishes chosen from the a la carte menu. Great selection for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike- we both enjoyed novel flavours, textures and ingredients that made us go 'Wow!'. Loved the seasonal and local approach to food. The wine was excellent. The flavours, quality and care put into the food made it an exceptional dining experience. Recommended for a meal to really get excited about.
O. D.
Truly fabulous! Almost teared up over how good the cabbage side is, everything was wonderfully done and really interesting. Fabulous value for money, honestly, they could charge a lot more for the truly fabulous caliber of food they give you. Great service too!
E. d.
Brighton gets another winner i think . Early days & very quiet when we were there just before New Year ( on way to Treason Show so not in for a big meal ) . Every dish was super tasty , so well imagined and created but not clever for its own sake. You can not believe how good the Cauliflower tastes - i mean really Cauliflower !!
The food was really wow ! which actually does not happen all that often anywhere. Good service, nice ambiance & good wine list .
Pretty certain this is going to be one of my absolute favourites .
R. M.
Great service and lovely food. The sprouts were especially good!
F. C.
Really impressed with this restaurant. The food, service and ambience were all unbelievably good and I'm surprised this place isn't talked about more, it deserves it. Only inconsistency was when asked for mayonnaise the manager said no and looked a little judgmental about the request, however after this our lovely waitress happily brought us some. Apart from that, no faults whatsoever. Will defiantly return.
M. M.
Great food, great service, great drinks and great atmosphere. Fantastic evening out!
Y. G.
Lovely venue, friendly service, good food (but not quite 5 star)
C. A.
Fantastic meal - returned there tonight after trying it out last week. Food is excellent, staff are so friendly and the setting beautiful. I have no issue with paying a little bit more to get the highest quality of food and service. Can’t wait to go again! I highly recommended this place.
T.
Had a wonderful meal for two at Kindling! Sat at the counter in front of the kitchen, which was great. Felt thoroughly spoilt being handed extra plates by the chefs. Food and wine selection, excellent.
A. F.
We found this place just walking around Brighton and stopped for lunch. What an amazing discovery! The staff is very attentive and the value for money is amazing! They have a very creative menu and everything we tasted was delicious and flavorful. Highly recommended!
M. E.
I was very excited to visit Kindling when it opened up, as I am friends with one of the chefs. I'm glad to say that I had an exquisite time at kindling, due to many factors. I was lucky enough to dine at kindling on their opening week, which managed to acquire me 20% off, I had seen they posted it was 50% online, but that clearly changed. However, any price for kindling dining experience is well worth it.
The restaurant is very small and personal, likely to seat 20-30 customers. The kitchen is open and in the middle of the restaurant and a few chefs will work at a time. the woodwork used to frame kindlings interior is beyond lovely. Fresh wood occupies the ceiling framework and the kitchen pass. Fresh smells of pine come to mind, delightful.
Each table is seated with Robert Welch cutlery, which i'm a huge fan of, detailed, antique plates and a ceramic urn full of water.
The staff are very polite and friendly, me and the manager had a good laugh and he was a lovely man.
Kindling offers a large drinks menu, sporting several in house made cocktails. My personal choice was "something to mull over", which I would say was my perfect drink. Such flavour and perfection in one glass is outstanding and deserves congratulations! They also serve a range of wines, soft drinks and hot drinks, so everyone is welcome.
The menu at Kindling is designed for sharing, which is becoming increasingly popular in restaurants, especially Brighton. There is several vegetarian and vegan options, enough to fill this vaste pit I call a stomach. Me and my girlfriend went for 3 "starters" (they don't call them starters), 3 small plates, one sharing plate and 2 desserts. We were both very full and amazed at the labour taken to perfect each dish. My favorite was the potato terrine with parsley shallot salad. All the flavours worked wonders with each other, and you couldn't of added anything to make it better than it already was.
Kindling Is one of the best restaurants in Brighton, if not the best. They serve an outstanding range of foods and drinks, served by joyous staff and well worth the money.

Fantastic food and really friendly staff.
A small, constantly-changing menu of great dishes with lots of local ingredients plus great, reasonably-priced wine.

The best new seasonal food place in Brighton. The fact that it's charcoal grilled makes it quite unique and the flavours are top notch. Excellent service too.

Mutton chop. Retired dairy beef. Squid in ink. Venison and mallard when in season. Eating here IS the occasion. Excellent negronis.

Absolutely wonderful flavours, particularly the amuse bouche and brill with shallots. I heartily recommend Kindling Restaurant, and the Venetian Merlot!

Absolutely spectacular service and incredible food. My only criticism is that the lighting is too bright other than that love it.

It's still early days for this welcome new addition to the Brighton scene, and I hope they do well. A friendly team delivering simple looking dishes that clearly actually had a lot of time and thought go into preparing them and are very tasty.

Most of the food was lovely somebody we were with had some uncooked meat which was very clearly raw we were told by the waiter that's just how it came which was not a professional way to deal with it they should have taken it back to the kitchen.

I can’t recommend it enough - the food was fantastic and staff super friendly. Social distancing was in place and we felt very safe having our first meal out after lockdown. Can’t wait to go back

Best lunch out in a very long time! Reservations are highly recommended as this place is super popular for a good reason. We’d unsuccessfully tried walking in on a Friday night, but they were booked solid.
We tried again the next day for lunch and loved it! Service was attentive and friendly and the food was both delicious and interesting. You can really tell that this is the passion of the owners and the diversity and whimsy of the menu reflects this. All fresh, seasonal, ingredients combined in surprising and delicious plates. Also…just the best damn fries in town. Can’t wait to visit again.
