Reviews of Riddle & Finns The Lanes
A. P.
Exquisitely crafted dishes with attention to detail & carefully picked ingredients. Had been looking forward to visiting the Riddle&Fins in the Lanes, as I had heard much about it and I can safely say that they did satisfy my expectations, maybe even mildly exceeded them :))
Worth noting: compared to other dining in Brighton it is more on the expensive side but definitely worth it (and the bill depends on what you order) , it is gluten free friendly (the pancakes in the photo), also to note: there’s a policy where if you are in two you have to sit side by side with your ‘date’, leaving space for people to sit opposite you. I went with a friend though and was not awkward at all despite being surprised at first by the seating arrangement.
Would go again!
Friendly and professional staff too.
Very quick service!
Atmosphere is 10/10 and recommended especially for a nice date night.

It has been a short while since my last visit due to current restrictions, but nothing has changed. Perfect environment, perfect service, amazing fresh food. It's not the cheapest, but it is the best and you get what you pay for when it comes to fresh food. Amazing meal, keep up the good work team!
F. E.
Beautifully cooked food, and a lovely friendly team inside as well! I would consider this to upper dining, and it is more expensive than your average restaurant, however the portion sizes, presentation and quality of the food provide more than adequate reasoning! If you like seafood, this is the place to go.
V. J.
My partner took me here for my birthday as he knows I love seafood. We sat at the back wall of the restaurant as my partner didn't realise you have to share a table with other people and as it was my birthday didn't like the idea of this. The waiter we had was very polite and attentive. The food we choose was lovely however there wasn't alot to choose because of supply issues which was a little disappointing. Over all an ok experience.
A. H.
Simple perfection! The prices are high but totally worth it. Easily one of the best seafood restaurants in the UK! Oysters are always fresh and the dishes are simply delicious! Decent wine selection. Staff are amazing.
C. E.
Cozy and very good quality food! Hidden in the Lanes.
Scallops were a bit over cooked, but rest of the food was delicious! Highly recommended.
P. M.
We actually wanted to go to the one on the beach, but it was full and the waiting was long, so we went to their chain inside in city. It is a restaurant with taste and all very fresh and delicious seafood dishes. The sharing platters are bigger portion than introduced, and we ended up with take away. It is a bit pricey but still good value for money.
C. M.
Delicious treat for my weekend away. Friendly staff and delicious food. Very accommodating of my coeliac disease with a gf menu. I had 2courses and it was packed with perfectly cooked seafood. So full! Haha
N. N.
The food is very delicious. Service enthusiastic, cute and of course warm. I’m very happy to have dinner with dear friends here. Will be back, for sure.
R. L. L.
Hidden gem in the lanes! The seafood is so fresh and cooked to utter perfection by the chefs. The menu changes from time to time to keep it interesting. Lovely and creative way of presenting seafood as a main mea. Would visit again.
A. K.
Hannds down, this is the best food I've ever had in any restaurant. Ever. Anywhere in the world. Just unreal. The staff (Megan and Isabelle) were also great, thank you so much for suggesting the octopus! Would never have ordered it otherwise and it was amazing.
C. G.
Seriously incredible food. Stunning to look at and delicious to eat; the best octopus I’ve ever had!
Staff were so lovely. Huge recommendation!!!!!
M. P.
Really nice atmosphere, quality food and wine. We had the cold selection as starter, halibut as main and a bottle of Gavi.
Our order went missing and after almost an hr arrived with wrong plate. The waiter made his apologies and removed that plate from the bill. Mistakes can happen and the staff managed the situation really well and professionally.
We definitely will come back to change this review from 4 to 5.
L. T.
There are always wonderful fresh seafood and fish dishes that never disappoint us. Our all family is very satisfied.
D. F.
Suave and sophisticated seafood restaurant on Brighton’s seafront. This was recommended online and we are so glad we were able to get a table and sample the fine food. I would suggest booking on line or getting there early which is what we did. Staff are exceptionally friendly and knowledgable. We were seated outside and with the outstanding menu, quality of food and supreme wine selection, It was a truly wonderful experience worth every penny.
B. S.
More expensive than your average fish place but the taste was great. The skate wing pictured was cooked like it should be and we all left very happy after a good meal.
r. f.
What a beautiful restaurant. Came on a Tuesday night and had such a lovely time. Special mention to Luke our server who was not only well educated in the menu items but also super friendly and really attentive. He deserves a pay rise for sure!
The food was out of this world and the wines were lovely too!
Could not recommend this place any more. 5 stars for the best fish restaurant in Brighton!
s. m.
As always this restaurant is a winner. This time we had oysters and lobster served by the accommodating Alex. So worth a visit if you are in the Brighton lanes area #lobster #oysters riddleandfinns #brighton

Food was lovely but service not so great.
Wanted to try this sea food restaurant for a few years. We were sat outside by choice which is great to people watch etc. guy that seated us was professional and friendly.
Server came out and served the starters , they forgot parts of it, soup cold and despite promoting forgot other parts we ordered such as extra bread and drinks. We gave up on the missing bits, but still benefit of the doubt maybe new etc
Food was lovely and great venue just not great service experience , which does create the overall experience. We have been to English’s around the corner a few times and the service and food are brilliant .
Would try the sea front version of this restaurant as it is lovely food, just a little disappointed with the overall service experience.
G. P.
We came across this Excellent restaurant by chance. A specialist fish restaurant serving fresh locally caught fish. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will be returning
O. E.
Extremely friendly and efficient service. Super fresh fish, satisfying main dishes, indulgent desserts, we’ll be back!
W. T.
Absolutely the best seafood restaurant in Brighton! Quality food and very delicious.
The only thing is they don’t accept booking in advance.
J. R.
From the moment we sat down our experience was perfect (Bobbi 1st day on job) our waitress was very attentive & engaging. Helped with useful information on the dishes & made our evening very enjoyable. The atmosphere was warm & intimate. Food & drinks were of the highest quality. Highly recommended & we can’t wait to visit again.
P. D.
Wonderful food, with wonderful service in the heart of Brighton. The seafood was all fresh, expertly and creatively prepared and tasted fabulous. We were also impressed by the knowledge of the staff of all aspects of the menu, as well as their general friendliness. Would highly recommend the oysters, was like tasting the sea!
K.
Great service, oysters and espresso martini were amazing!
M. L.
Great service, great fresh fish, great experience! Will definitely be back when in Brighton 😊
X. W.
Everything is sooo good here! Maybe the best seafood I had in UK. Very tasty and fresh!
Y. S. S.
Delicious food, nice atmosphere and good service, Waitress are amazing, especially blondy girl with glasses from Czech Republic , and others good too, they deserve good tips with their friendly acts. The restaurant has changed my mind about sea foods. Thank you 😊
update: after 2 years, the server becomes my w/life ❤️ 😉
Update: after 2years marriage we have got divorced and the restaurant is not as fantastic as before, besides no one remains from old servers. Of course its all about personal experiences, the restaurant still amazing.
L. M.
Amazing!! Food was fabulous and the staff were great! I had the Tuna tartare which was devine and the fruit de mer classic was more than enough for 2
P. m.
Amazing sea food, I got the catch of the day with shellfish butter. Super fresh and well cooked.
j. b.
Fantastic food, cocktails and staff! Great spot for seafood lovers!
L. L.
Phenomenal seafood cuisine at a reasonable price. Waiter was honest and stopped us ordering a plate too much. The Malaysian Crab was simply majestical, a flavour I would have thought unachievable. Sweet yet spicy, refreshing yet heart warming, refine yet homey. Simply class. Only bad note, front of house seemed rather patronising when trying to get on the waiting list. LL/OC
N. Y.
First meal out after lockdown and it was a very pleasing experience! Decent food and service. Would definitely recommend any seafood lovers to try the oysters. Calamari with the dipping sauce is superb! Also had fresh bream for main, very hearty. Would definitely revisit if visiting brighton second time! intrigued to try other dishes perhaps on a nicer day, preferrably inside. (overhearing the good music :3)
陈.
My sister recommended this restaurant, I am a seafood lover so I really satisfied with the food here. Two starters and two mains plus 6 oysters are totally enough for me and my partner. Very good service and friendly staff. Normally need to queue to be served or reserve in advance but due to the virus, not too many people we just walked in. It should been a five star, but I don't like their chair and table, they are high and I don't like them. I know some people like to seat high but not for me, it could be better if there are normal chair and table that we can choose.
S. C.
👍🏼: Amazing service, perfectly cooked halibut and mussels, excellent plating, oysters value for money, very nice espresso martini
👎🏼: A bit cold - not enough heating; lobster a bit over cooked; lobster and halibut is not very fresh
Overall: better than average, but doesn't really worth the price premium
G. P.
A happy place for me.
I love seafood, so clearly this is a great spot. They keep it simple and get it very right here.
The host and his team are first class, friendly and attentive without being in your face. I didn’t have a reservation but they quickly seated me and made me feel very welcomed.
I was here for a quick lunch and it was everything I could have asked for. I had the tuna tartare, 6 oysters and a glass of house white, all wonderful 👌🏼
Unassuming but cool decor.
When I am next in Brighton I know where I am dining.
J. T.
The food was amazing except the seafood linguini. The prawns in the linguini weren’t fresh and with this price, I expected higher quality of seafood than this.
The scallop dish was the best. Staff was nice and friendly. 😊
T. C.
3 stars because I like to seat in front of the person when I enjoy for meals and in this restaurant you’ll seat in a side if you are in two.
For the high level of quality food and service that is unacceptable for me.
M. A.
The food was beautiful, service was top class. I can't wait to come back here. I am still thinking of the octopus 🐙
V.
Visiting Riddle & Finns to sample the Royale Fruits de Mer Platter was the reason we came to Brighton for the weekend to celebrate a special occasion. We were not disappointed. The platter was amazing....3 hours of culinary pleasure. The service; friendly, unobtrusive and first class. The ambience, buzzing. A wonderful experience and one of the best fruits de mer platters we've enjoyed in a long time. We'll be back again for sure! Big thank you to all the staff. V & B
P.
Was told fish soup was 3 types of fish with a Langoustine, arrived with mussels and clams, be careful if you are allergic.
We have been previously and disappointed that the plates were cold, asked specifically this visit and still hot food arrived on cold plates, complained and told warming oven for plates is best they can do and not always in long enough to heat up. Not good enough at these prices, a chain mentality.
B. H.
We were disappointed with our meal. The tempura tiger prawns were very overcooked, chewy and tasteless..I would have expected better from a restaurant supposedly expert in serving fish snd seafood. The salt and pepper squid was soggy. The sauted potatoes and green beans were undercooked, and again the flavours just weren't there. Mussels were nice. Service was good but not sadly not once were we asked how our meal was but it was very busy.
J. C. M. N.
Oh my goodness. Everything was just GREAT!
Seriously I’m not writing this for money, it’s my second time here and they still did not disappoint. Absolutely lovely dishes, all very well seasoned and very fresh. We ordered the Full GAMBAS and the sauce was heavenly we couldn’t stop eating it. Then the seafood linguine which was also very nice with a decent amount of seafood in it. We also had some calamari and Brighton Scallops which were both really nice. Last we ordered a desert for share, the dessert were all nice too!
The only thing if I had to be picky is the waiting time, we waiting for roughly an hour on a Sunday night for a table. HOWEVER, we know it’s a popular place and it’s well worth 🥰
C. T.
Extremely fresh seafood; catch of the day runs out quickly. Attentive service and good menu offerings. Recommended to make reservations ahead of time, especially the branch by the waterfront.
A. M.
First time visit, with good quality seafood and a lovely vibe to the place. We shared a table with another couple who were really nice, so it’s a perfect way to meet new people.
C. B.
Fabulous fish and seafood restaurant. Sri Lankan monkfish and prawn curry is to die for. The staff are very helpful and professional. A little move expensive than run of the mill restaurants but this is in another class. Definitely highly recommend can't wait to visit again.
G. H.
Absolutely delicious food, especially the oysters with cucumber kimchi and nduja mussels. Only potential criticism is that the fish soup and clam chowder were a little bit floury and underseasoned to my taste.
I. V.
Very polite & kind staff, excellent fresh food. Great place for sea food lovers. Beautiful interior, great spirit, would highly recommend.
C. D. C.
Tried some of their food for a quick fix lunch, serving size is quite proportionate, if not more, with the price. Will definitely visit again to try some of their dishes.
A. Y.
Had been wanting to come here, as it is so famous for the seafood, and it exceeded my expectations! Every dishes from starter to main and even drinks were amazingly tasty and fresh!! Seafood was all cooked to perfection with the best seasoning and the quality of seafood was just wow!
The shellfish was so juicy and fresh fresh and fresh with the impeccable seasoning, not too salty and flavor some! One of my favorite seafood experience in the word!
M. M.
Overall the food was really amazing. Fresh fish, delicious sides and a really good champagne. The only issue we had was a single waitress, which was really impolite. For this kind of upper class restaurant I would expect an exceptional staff, not rushing the guest to order.
L. C. (. P.
It’s more of a fast turnaround restaurant but foods are amazing and high in quality.
Eat the crab (but with patience)
C. D.
Easily the best seafood I have ever eaten or probably will ever eat. Small venue and doesn't accept reservations but well worth popping down and getting on the waiting list. Candle lit and romantic atmosphere. Excellent value food and drinks, friendly and extremely attentive staff. A must for all seafood lovers. Cannot recommend enough!!!
B. B.
I eat out a lot but this place is special. The service is extraordinary. The seafood is divine and locally sourced.
Our oysters were great and crisp.
The fish was on point and great.
The dessert is also pretty pretty good.
And all of that for a fair price.
I would recommend that to everyone who loves fish.
M. A.
We were very lucky to find a table at this lovely restaurant on Halloween night. Had some of the best seafood I've had in a long time. Worth the trip to Brighton. Service was very friendly and professional.
J. S.
Pleasant atmosphere and attentive staff. We are new to eating oysters and wanted to experience what England had to offer in taste. We shared a variety from around the region, paired with a Pierre Mignon from France. Very approachable and great recommendations from Michelle.
All the seafood leaving the kitchen looked simply delicious. We will most certainly return.
N. W.
Excellent meal at Riddle & Finns. Our family of 5 has the full range of seafood appetite and every taste was well catered for, tasty chowder to beautifully simple dover sole. The service was good to! Highly reccommended.
Y.
One of the best seafood places I have ever had, amazing tastes and flavors, the the seafood was fresh and cooked to perfection.
Seating was not the comfortable and did not enjoy the fact that we had to share our tables, it was too crowded but it worked in the end.
Everything was great!
S. Y. C.
Amazing food! Everything on the platter is just so fresh. Mussels (cold and hot) is the best. And our server Scarlet is just the loveliest person, always explaining everything with a smile on her face even during the busy hours. Absolutely recommend. (Personally this one is better than the one by the beach, food and service.
N. L. (.
The Riddle & Finn's is a fantastic little Champagne and Oyster bar, although the menu has a lot more then just that.
The staff were very friendly and helpful especially with my wife's dietary requirements. Would certainly go back again.
Y. P.
They do use really fresh seafood. You can just feel it how fresh all the seafood in the dishes are. Very much satisfied with food as well as services. Strongly recommend to try their significant (large size) oysters - SO FRESH AND SO GOOD.
M. L.
Wonderful staff, great service and lovely atmosphere.
The menu was really interesting and the staff really know their stuff.
The food is seafood/fish in a restaurant that architecturally reflects that. Most importantly the food was fabulous each time we've been and improved each visit, which is saying something as its fantastic anyway.
There's also a new branch in a pavilion on the seafront.
They are both v.busy but you can't book
ahead , they are very good at arranging to
text you locally so you can have a drink elsewhere if you pop in and leave a phone/email.You must be able to get there in about ten minutes from notification.
K. N. (.
amazing seafood. had one of our most memorable seafood meals from recent times. we ordered mussels and a squid + shellfish risotto, both of which were stellar! pretty busy place - we were lucky to get a table without reservations on a Saturday night, probably because we arrived past 10 and people were finishing their dinner.
S. V.
High quality service. Great sea food. Moderate price. (Around 35 pounds per person). Advice to order today's catch - fresh from fish market.
r. a.
Turbot cooked perfectly. Great front of house. Amazing Bloody Mary Ruth (optional Oyster on top). Great wine and champagne selection. Reassuringly expensive place.
J. C.
For the portions, this place offers good value for money. Had the bread starter, octopus, ceviche, crab linguine, seafood risotto. Service is quick, friendly. Visited at around 6pm on Friday.
R. M.
Quite expensive - but you won't regret it! It's better to reserve a table in advance since the location is really small. We had to wait about 45 minutes but where called back when the table was free. An awesome choice of Champagne as well as delicious fish. The service still needs some improvement.
t. i.
Went here after seeing the reviews, we didnt have a reservation but the waiter took our name and number and said that he would have a table in a hour. After 40 mins he called to say our table was ready. We ordered the linguine and the risotto. Both really really good, definitely one of the best sea food meals I have ever had. Bit pricey with a big service charge but well worth it.
M. G.
One of the best seafood restaurants I have ever eaten in! Lovely candle-lit atmosphere in the evening and great staff who seem to actually understand the menu. Rhys was particularly helpful. Interesting and extensive menu - we had a mix of oysters to start, followed by bream and halibut. Fish was so fresh and the sides were delicious. Also some really interesting wines. We will definitely be visiting again!
S. B.
Very nice sea food! Amazing recommendations from the lovely waitress
T. R.
Loved the food and atmosphere. Oysters were delicious. If you order a crab make sure you are not in hurry :) Highly recommend.
P. v. B.
Staff was very friendly and helpful in making choices. Food is absolutely delicious and the wine choice is great. Can not recommended it enough.
M. M.
Harry was a brilliant waiter. Accommodating attentive and friendly staff. Fresh, delicious food. A good time!
R. C.
Arrived on very gloomy and wet Brighton evening but was warmed immediately by the cheery welcome. Excellent service- dishes (and fishes) enthusiastically and knowledgeably explained, just on the right side of attentive and friendly. Food was very good, albeit somewhat overpriced in relation to the rest of the restaurant experience: shared tables and bar-stool style chairs- also Bathroom was not great. Cover charge pp. and service charge automatically added.
S. A.
Excellent seafood. Simple flavours making sure not to overshadow the taste of the seafood. We had a variety of starters and fish as well as one of the options for the catch of the day. Everything was really nicely cooked and reasonably priced for the quality. Nice selection of wines too. Staff was attentive and polite. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning. Worth their reputation.
M. G.
Took my girlfriend here for early birthday celebrations, fantastic service and great food as always. I cannot remember the name of our server but he was very attentive and knowledgeable.
C.
Seated promptly and was provided with a basket of bread (3 half slices) and an assortment of condiments. The halibut dish was absolutely spot on! Waited quite a bit for our main course but otherwise great food. Surprise charge on the bill - £3 charge for bread.
a. b.
The food and service were second to none!! Would recommend this place time and time again!! All the fish was cooked to absolute perfection!!
L. S.
This is my second seafood restaurant visit, so I'm hardly a connoisseur. But this was by far the freshest seafood I have ever had. We had the Supreme Platter between two and couldn't finish it. The staff even put our left overs in a waterproof tub with ice. Excellent.
Great staff, atmosphere and music taste.
c. j.
Phenomenal - loved the atmosphere, decor and range of fish dishes and wines / champagne on offer. Great being able to watch the team at work preparing all the food. The concept of sharing tables is lovely to meet new people but still feels warm and inviting for a romantic dinner for two. The service team are great - nothing is too much trouble - particular thanks to Cecily and the MaîtreD
J. D.
Omg bloody amazing best oysters ever .food was seriously lovely
L. P. M.
The supreme fruits of the sea was very good. A few more sauces/clarified butter on offer for it would have been nice though. My only small criticism was too many chives in the potted shrimp. Subjective opinion though. Great service.
P. B.
Really good food, a must if you are local.
L. A.
Excellent food and ambience with an unobstructed view of the ocean and pier. Staff were incredibly kind and accommodating of our baby daughter.
C. L.
Excellent service, great seafood (French chef) and homely ambience. Dont miss out on their Singapore chilli crab and their octopus!
F. E. S.
The best seafood I've had before, the place is very cozy, the staff was extremely friendly, I was afraid because I am allergic to crustaceans but very kindly the waiter helped me choose the best dishes and they were all delicious, oysters, scallops and octopus, all amazingly served, I will definitely come back 👏🏻
B. W.
We had such a great meal here this week. The menu is superb - not overloaded with choice, and each dish is designed so well. I've never wanted to order so many things on a menu before. Lots of seasonal/local influence too, and the wine is also very competitively priced.
Everything about the food was perfect. The staff were also superb. The supervisor Victorian really allowed us to have a perfect evening and does such a great job of managing the place to such a high standard. Excellent staff, atmosphere, food and drink all round.
H. Y.
Excellent seafood!!! Love it there, the row food is just wonderful! But the fried fish is just fine (maybe it's because I am from Taiwan, we have too much fresh and great seafood as well, and they can cook wellllll) Champagne is tasty, staffs are gentle, luckily the weather is perfect to sit outdoor, definitely a must-visit!
S. N.
This place is a fish/seafood lover's delight! Tucked away in the narrow lanes of Brighton Town Centre you'll find this dear little restaurant. There are no reservations so you'll likely share your table with "strangers" if you're a small group, the interesting thing is that they will seat you next to your companion so you'll end up opposite anyone else at the table. It's kind of hard not to interact with people when you're seated like this. Now onto the food! I had half a dozen oysters and the bouillabaisse, the oysters were fresh and plump and our server was knowledgeable about the oysters provenance. The fish/seafood in the bouillabaisse was cooked to perfection & very tasty. Lastly the service was very good and the toilets were clean. The place is a little pricey but worth it.
S. D.
Had dinner here recently and the whole experience was an absolute pleasure. Immediately upon entering the restaurant the staff welcomed us and made us feel like the most important guests they've ever had. The food was incredible--we had an entire fresh mackerel as our main--and there were lots of appetizers and side options that were all marvelous as well. The whole meal we were looked after and treated like royalty. Among the best dining experiences of my life.
J. C.
:(
everything was on point apart from the langoustine - one of them turned grey and we reflected to the staff that it might not be fresh or even edible. shockingly, the staff said it was normal for it to be grey & mushy and reassured us they only import the freshest seafood.
honestly i would've accepted an apology to have been given a dead, bitter langoustine but the fact that they denied and thought we're so stupid was unacceptable.
scallops and dover sole were bravo, but doubt i'm ever gna revisit
P.
We walked in and had waited for about one hour. The staff were very friendly!
C.
The service was a little slow, however the quality of the food was worth the wait. I had their Sea Food Linguine which was fresh and absolutely delicious.
Based on my experience at Riddle & Finns, I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to my friends
E. F.
This is, hands down, my favourite restaurant in Brighton. I prefer The Lanes site, as it's really nice and cosy - especially good on a rainy or colder day. The food here is always absolutely top-notch, the wine selection divine, and the service superb. I still talk about the mussels I ordered about 5 years ago on my first visit... still the biggest and tastiest mussels I've ever had! Genuinely wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. It has never disappointed.
M. R.
Been meaning to try for ages on recommendation of my friend Gordon Ramsay, great to see as superb as when he visited some of the best fish dishes I have tasted for years, fresh and perfectly prepared by a chef who knows how to make a harmonious dish without over statement, Great choice of wines and champagnes to compliment and desserts to die for, we will be back
J. H.
Lovely atmosphere, great, friendly staff. Good menu. Excellent quality of food and cooking
Downsides: 2 dishes we ordered were out of stock, and they didn't offer any compensation for our disappointment, such as maybe a complimentary drink or a little off the bill, especially as it is a tad up market and comparatively expensive.
Otherwise a lovely evening.
T. W.
After several years of walking past & seeing it full we finally got in to Riddle & Finns in the lanes. Great place, fab staff and wonderful food. Cannot wait to go back.
G. C.
Lovely seafood. Friendly and professional staff. Very good wine and alcohol selection
S. B.
Great.
Simply great.
The menù is fantastic, flawless mix of tradition with a modern touch.
The fish is absolutely fresh, and cooked to perfection.
Loved the table sharing setup too!
Amazing restaurant in Brighton.
A. S.
Stumbled across this absolute gem! Can highly reccomend. The food was absolutely on point as was the service. The staff were the perfect balance between being attentive, professional & friendly. Amazing eating experience, will be sure to visit again soon. Great job guys! 👍
N. V.
Amazing as always!!!
Highly recommended! ✨
C. R.
Had an absolutely amazing time last night at this fantastic restaurant. The food was incredible and the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, making us feel at home. I highly recommend this place.
E. B.
Lovely restaurant in the heart of Brighton. the clam chowder was delicious, as was the Cod with gnocchi, ricotta stuffed zucchini flower and buerre blanc sauce. the staff were friendly and helpful.
Would recommend.
M.
Not really my thing, but girlfriend really liked it and commented how fresh the seafood platter was. Service was excellent.
A. C. C.
Nice seafood. We tried the clam chowder, the octopus, the scallops and the thermidor lobster. They were all very good.
D. H.
The seafood was great! Make sure to ask for the bread and pate which is included (£1.50 per head).
K. B.
Wonderfully prepared food, really fresh and delicious fish, great atmosphere and super friendly staff. We got some wonderful suggestions for places to go in Brighton on top of the best meal I've had in the last couple of years!
S. R.
Lovely lunch. Shared the mussels which were fat and juicy and the calamari with a spicy peanut and chilli sauce, really tasty and would have both again. There were so may fish dishes to choose for the main, I think I had the cod and my sister had the seabass, both really tasty. I could easily work my way through the whole menu so already planning my next visit! Ambience great and service attentive and polite. Highly recommend 👌
M.
Great restaurant, lovely seafood, and nice service, we had a great time here!! Thank you.
P. N. C.
Excellent service!! Fresh seafood!! Great price!! Nice wine list!!

Amazing food, nice staff and a great list of wines!

Delicious food and fantastic service

Great food and atmosphere, also friendly staff
E. S.
Excellent food, brilliantly funny and charming service. Wasn't cheap approx £50 per head, but it was our anniversary so quite happy to pay for that level of quality.
Let me put it this way, I don't eat a lot of fish because I'm not generally a big fan. However I'm looking forward to going there again as it was amazing.
Seafood was top notch too.
In fact if all fish and seafood tasted as good as it did in this restaurant, I'd cheerfully eat more of it.
M. B.
Ignore any bad reviews as this is more of a review of the person rather than this restaurant, the most amazing food I have ever eaten! Extremely helpful waitresses, great atmosphere & fantastic food! This was the best meal I have ever been for & I can’t wait to return.
M. J.
Great food, excellent service, nice vibe one of the best meals we have had out in a while! A cut above the average meal out! Will be back!
T. J.
Excellent service, great food, relaxed atmosphere. Had a late lunch, the staff accommodated our two babies and kept them entertained. Food was quick and delicious, not overpriced for the quality. We had to wait for a table, but they gave us a rough time to come back and texted us to say table was ready, quite a good system although they did want us at the restaurant in 5mins from texting (bit too quick when you have two little ones with you).
K. B.
My fiance and I came to Riddle and Finns today in the Lanes and we weren't disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious, the oysters are an absolute must have and the champagne is perfect.
Jacob catered to our every need and was just wonderful, we could not fault him. Great location. Highly recommended x
k. d.
Staff great, food and wine very good but shared dessert outstanding ,will go back just for that. Something off masterchief
B. C.
Lovely little seafood restaurant, nice food, great soup but a bit salty , pasta was average...
C. H.
Best seafood ever. We will be definitely be coming back here for the fresh seafood!!!
M. C.
Absolutely amazing service, 5 stars is not enough to describe how good this place was!! Me and my partner came across this restaurant and managed to get a table after leaving another place because of terrible service. The staff here were so accommodating, finding us a table within 15mintues and the food was amazing!! They even moved us closer to the outdoor heater once a table became available. Highly recommend this place!!
吳.
Best seafood restaurant I visited in Brighton!
Worth the price and it is delicious 😋
M. P.
Amazing experience:excellent wines and food, great service! Highly recommended

The very best seafood. Elegantly prepared.👌🏽

Fantastic food and service, we've been a few times and never been disappointed!

Came here for birthday dinner. Lovely staff and decor but the food....seafood linguini was completely delicious. The quality of the seafood was as good as anywhere. Highly recommend! The service was excellent staff were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and happy I only wish we we had this restaurant closer to home :( we will be back again!!!!!!!
T. P.
Wonderful long supper at Riddle & Finns. Lovely peaceful spot out of the hustle bustle of the Lanes. Friendly, attentive staff delivered up fabulous food and drinks. A few oysters to start were followed by lots of little plates from a great selection, leaving only enough room for a shared main course! Looking forward to visiting again!
R. Q.
Excellent food great flavours portion sizes were very good and we left extremely satisfied #exquisite

This is potentially one of the best restaurants I have ever been too.
The food, 10/10, the atmosphere 10/10, the cleanliness 10/10, the service 10/10. Luke served my girlfriend and I and he was not only an exceptional host, but provided us with excellent advice on the menu and was an extremely friendly face.
My girlfriend said that the oysters were the best she has ever has, and my pan fried sea bass was exceptional.
If you are ever in Brighton I highly recommend!
S. J.
Amazing food all the time. Friendly staff
C. Y.
Cant believe this seashell platter was only £30! Everything was good except the fact the waitress was v keen to take our plates even tho we were still eating :(
C. B.
Excellent seafood here in a lovely restaurant. The pudding player is divine too.

I spent a lovely Birthday lunchtime IN SEPT 2020 with my son in this fantastic fish restaurant . They were running the 20% off scheme started by the govt when they were trying to get restaurants on their feet after Lockdown , and people to eat out again .
We both had a massive bowl of mussels , which I have to say were the best we've ever had in all of Brighton , and we've been to a few restaurants down there . My son ordered a cake and told them it was my Birthday , and they did me a special birthday dessert. I had a lovely glass of wine recommended to me by one of the more knowledgeable waiters , whom I must say are all very charming, and although generally they re a little pricey , its worth paying as the food is delicious . Id definitely recommend it , and id go there again .
N. P.
Very Delicious and nice presentation! Sashimi/ seabass main dish was great. Servers are professional and spouting positive energy! Downside could be the portion which was a bit small for me, and no online or call-in booking system. You need to physically be there to put the name on waiting list. They do call u on time when the slot is open, so no issue but still strange. On weekends, things can get busy and might need to wait a bit longer to get ur bills and menu if u are at the wrong timing.
S. A.
Fabulous food. Fresh seafood. Lovely🙂
L. P.
Came on Sunday lunchtime, staff were very friendly and the service was efficient. The food was fresh and delicious. Definitely worth the money and would highly recommend.
C. G.
I love my trips to Brighton, especially the food. Riddle & Finns caters for gluten free and does walk ins. I was still able to turn up and eat here in Covid restrictions. Had an hour to wait which was happily spent sipping a gluten free beer in a pub.
A. P.
I like the place, but the booking system is so weird. It's not possible to book, only waIk in, which is definitely far from being convenient for clients who are planning their day ahead. I understand that the restaurant is fully booked anyway and probably you don't really care about other clients, who want to book in advance.
R. G.
Been here a couple of times now and both times food was exceptional and service great had shell on prawn dish which was delicious.
Their squid was outstanding never had it cooked anywhere that we'll before.
Never heard a bad word against this place always great standard.
The lanes restaurant is convenient location and very intimate their beach restaurant is more spacious
i. a.
Great food, especially the tuna tartar and the crab in Singapore sauce! And very friendly service
P. Y.
Incredible. I normally feel like I need to write and analyse things, but this was incredible. The chefs deserve pure gold as payment for their passionate work, the servers need to be teaching the world how to be great at their job! Great low prices for amazing food!,
F. S.
One week in Brighton and we treated ourselves twice to this incredible place. Super fresh seafood, plenty of choice, and the staff is simply amazing! If there are no tables, sit outside and watch the friendly and talented chefs at work. New favorite restaurant!
C. M.
Amazing food. Fantastic service. Best seafood restaurant in town. Will be back!
s. d.
Fantastic Meal. Brilliant food, service, wine, and ambience. Faultless.
H. S.
Amazing crab! (Although took us so long to eat it)
B. F.
Very enjoyable visit to Riddle & Finn's at the Lanes. Super tasty fish and a generous size too. I think this is one of the best seafood restaurants I have visited. The front of house staff were amazing and super welcoming. I haven't given it 5 stars due to the seats not being particularly comfortable and I think the space could do with a freshen up. That aside I will definitely look to eat there again next time I am out that way.
K. C.
You can't reserve a table so just pop in, let them know you want to eat there, they put you on the list and call you as soon as a table is ready for you.
S. C.
Food is good, staff are friendly and we shared our table with some very nice people.
O. B.
Seafood at its best! Brilliant place, nice staff.
S. B.
We had the sea bass and halibut with a side of broccoli ,very tasty. Looking forward to coming again as the other items on my the menu sounded equally as good .Service was spot on as well.
J. B.
Absolutely wonderful food, the best meal I've had in a long time. Starters, mains and desserts were all spot on, each had surprising little touches such as coconut milk on the halibut, just a lovely little twist making it a special and memorable dinner.
L. A.
An excellent evening. Food superb. Cooked to perfection. Fish perfect. The shellfish butter emulsion so full of flavour. Quality mussels. Plaice so delicate and fresh. Service couldn't ask for better. Nicolae and Andrea were faultless. Would recommend them unreservedly. Not cheap but worth every penny. I am very hard to please where food is concerned but these surpassed all expectation. So happy I went there. Will go again
Here's to the next visit
C. Q.
Absolutely fantastic! Food, wine, service and ambiance. A must visit for sea food.
P. N.
OK I suppose , hadn't been in a while. Great seafood menu but not particularly the best value. The chowders are the best! Drinks are quite pricey. Atmosphere's quite good - sharing tables has you interacting with those opposite ( if they're open to it) , my friend hadn't been before so it was a fair to adequate introduction to the place! Will definitely always go back from time to time.
R. C.
Highly recommend - we had a really great meal here. Service was very friendly but most of all the food was fantastic. We had superb seafood risotto and one of the five whole cooked catch of the day (bream) which was cooked superbly - it seemed to be cooked "en papillote" with clams and mussels and it was done to perfection.
C. A.
Without doubt, the most amazing seafood meal I've had in all of my life, the service was friendly, professional, and they could never do enough for you. As well as this, it was a truly exquisite meal, the food was cooked to *perfection*. The smoked haddock is by far the most delicious fish dish I've ever eaten.
K. M.
Service at the door when we arrived was good and we were told a window seat had become available, but it really wasn't a window seat - it was a table at the back of the window area by the wall. This made it feel very claustrophobic, tables in the area were tightly packed in - two separate people accidentally knocked over a glass from another table. Service was very good and the food was good but reasonably pricey - especially the starters. I have since been told their other restaurant in the Lanes is better (although you can't book there).
C.
Cannot fault this place at all. Excellent service and excellent food. Simply the best. Myself and my boyfriend found this place out of luck, and we had a 3 course meal, plus oysters. Everything had such great flavours, great service. Just great. We'll be going back tomorrow for the lobster. Great great great
L. C.
This place was great, friendly staff, delicious food and great company
a. u.
Ideal for seafood lovers they also have some keralan dishes and service provided was also brilliant helpful staff even with toddlers and giving recommendations.
C. R.
Good food but appalling service. I mean, 2 out of 3 waiters that we came in contact with were really rude in their manners. Please respect that we pay a lot of money to have a lovely night out at your restaurant so at least try to be polite...
n. p.
Amazing food, waitress amazing. We were on the waiting list but missed the 1st call and couldnt get signal. Left our accommodation to 3 voicemails and the table was given away, which is fair enough. However she still managed to get us sorted with a drink and we got a table in the window. Great decor, great staff and amazing food. A must
A. D.
Ordered a few apps. Sashimi, raw scallops and tuna. All were great. Followed by the seafood platter. We were worried that it wouldn't be enough - total opposite. There was enough for at least 4 people. There were a few things on the platter that us Americans don't normally eat, like the whelkes or the cockles.
Y. F.
Nestled away in the little streets of The Lanes, this place is very worth the visit. Granite table-top interior and a pre-war style make it a good setting for some local seafood creations.
The service is a little bit unusual, in that you are expected to share a table with others, and sit ONLY side-by-side. I suppose this throws some people off, but we managed splendidly. The restaurant itself is a little bit warm and some more ventilation would not go amiss.
The selection of starters, mains and sides is impressive. The seafood selections are of a very high quality, and the daily catch is an absolute delight. Very much worth the premium price charged. I didn't quite understand the wine selection, but the gist I got was that they have one promoted wine on offer. In any case, we had some bloody marys, and while not the best, it did not detract from the overall experience.
The non-seafood side-dishes were also very fresh and well-prepared. The few vegetarian options looked appetizing, but we stuck with the catch of the day.
I would definitely return to the restaurant, especially in the winter
T. P.
The supreme fruits of the sea was very good. A few more sauces/clarified butter on offer for it would have been nice though. My only small criticism was too many chives in the potted shrimp. Subjective opinion though. Great service.
J. L.
Had a lovely meal here with my girlfriend. The staff were very friendly. The oysters and scallops to start were delicious. The fish cookery was on a level you would expect from Riddle and Finss. With my girlfriend having the monkfish tail which she said said was heavenly. I have the halibut and that was worth every penny. Overall I really enjoyed the meal and I will definitely be returning again soon.
D. J.
You can't reserve, you have to turn up and then get on the waiting list.
It is well worth the wait, one of the best fish restaurants I've been to, we're going back again tomorrow.
D.
What a place! Oysters (Jersey) superb, pan roast cod magnificent, halibut, ginger sticky toffee pudding lethal, all with great service. And the Saint Chinian red wine! I will come back.
M. M.
We dined at the sea side branch, we were seated inside the restaurant which was a bit disappointing but it is the luck of the draw. The interior seating is directly above the kitchen so you get a lot of the aromas and heat from there, for better or worse. There was a portable industrial sized fan blowing right at us which was really annoying. Also the inside is very dimly lit. In general I did not enjoy the atmosphere inside. Our starters were excellent (tuna sashimi and grilled langoustines) as was the wine we ordered, although they did not have our first choice wine in stock. My girlfriend had the halibut and it was great. I had the wok friend crab in the Malaysian sauce, and in all honesty the sauce ruined an amazing crab. Really salty and over powering flavours, plus the sauce stained my hands yellow for a full day, even after much scrubbing.
In summary, this restaurant did not live up to it's 4.5 stars on our visit, it's unfulfilled potential was disappointing. If you get a seat in the window area you are golden, think twice if they seat you inside as it may leave a sour taste in your mouth.
M. H.
Absolutely love this place, highly recommend for anyone who likes fresh seafood. It doesn't take reservations (at least it didn't when we went) so you need to prepare for that. They do have another location on the beach which does so if it's a special occasion that is your best bet. Staff are great, food is fantastic and the atmosphere is really cool, busy and bustling right in the heart of Brighton.
E. V.
A truly wonderful meal. Outstanding ingredients simply and respectfully prepared - just delicious. Started with oysters, then scallops, then for mains we had the catch of the day & a half lobster. Pudding was superb too, as was the English sparkling wine we had. Only tiny hiccup was a final glass of champagne had to be sent back as it was a bit dead but they immediately opened a new bottle & replaced it. It's certainly good for our bank balance that we don't live in Brighton - can't wait to return!
F. L.
It's always a treat. This is THE place to go for seafood lovers.
A. M.
Amazing food and Harry's service is second to none.
He's hilariously relevant and so courteous. Thank you for an awesome evening 😊 x
J. M.
A real experience. Great staff. Amazing seafood platter. I felt like the king of the ocean. Move over Neptune...
H. R.
Absolutely WONDERFUL food, fantastic experience, fantastic staff and overall great experience.
L. V.
Excellent seafood. Have dined here three times now, once ordering from the main menu, once for a tapas style lunch and, most recently, having the 2 course menu of the day for lunch. I thought that the latter was excellent value at £15 a head. Very friendly and professional service too.
R. S. v. d. G.
The staff are knowledgeable, the food is fresh and divine, the setting is like an old fish market but with a chandelier twist which just works!
Its the first time I really did want everything on the menu and we proceeded to order for 5 people and the two of us devoured it with all the right sound effects.... One must visit this place. I will certainly be driving an hour just to come here for lunch/dinner.
D. D.
Went there to dinner with my partner to celebrate his birthday. We chose the set menu choosing different things each, each time both dishes were delicious. The fish was fresh and very tasty and paid just over £40 for both of us, so even though is slightly on the higher range, I think value for money is not too bad for a fish restaurant. Staff were incredibly nice and efficient and the decor a nice mix between minimalist and shabby chic.
A. T. L.
Food superb, wine fantastic, great wines by the glass which is nice.. service on point! the Halibut is next level and anything prawns is good!
M. S.
Definitely a place to come back to. Great service, super tasty food and intimate atmosphere. Can’t book this place and it’s busy even on week days, but for a date night it’s fine if you’re lucky or can share a table with other guests. Probably Brighton’s best seafood dining.
P. O.
great oysters :) not cheap but i had good experience.
R. C.
Where to start? I love this place. So far my favorite restaurant in Brighton since 2014! The freshness of the food is incomparable, amazing oysters selection. Also, when I asked the waitress what was the best oysters, she actually knew what she was talking about! She told me to get the Jersey because this batch was amazing. Bring a skeptic consumer, I took the three different kinds, and Lo and behold, the jersey were out of this world. It really means something that the staff knew what they were talking about. So many places they just tell you (smooth) to take the priciest item on the menu...
food is excellent. All kind of fish options and sea food options, but I love that their catch if the day is made the simplest way. Whole fish, with some herbs, lemon and some olive oil. BOOM. Nothing else. No fried stuff, no other shenanigans. Simple. Delish. Their bouillabaisse is fantastic. The big seafood platter is also phenomenal. Great wine list. The only downside to it is that I think there isn't enough selection of wines by the glass. But other than that, nothing! Great location, tucked in the Lanes, in basically what is a little back street. My favorite restaurant!
O. Z.
It was a fantastic experience with great quality food and friendly staff
K. K.
I hold this intimate restaurant close to my heart. Me and my now fiance and soon to be husband this summer had our first date here.
Lovely staff and wonderful food. We come back every year on our anniversary. We love it.
A. S.
Easily the best high end fish eatery in Brighton. Fablulous service, incredible range of wines and drinks plus the menu has something for everyone. Their oysters were top notch and the portions were fantastic considering the price. It was my first time eating here after living in Brighton for close to a decade, my only regret is not going there sooner.
J. L.
Wonderful Friday lunch! They have some live and fresh seafood, great services too
R. R.
By far my favourite seafood restaurant in Brighton. The food is great, the service friendly and attentive, the ambience relaxed and chic at the same time. Perfect for celebrating a special occasion or simply to have a great night out. It’s very popular and you might have to wait to get a table as they don’t accept reservations, but you won’t regret it.
j. c.
First time we've been actually been in having had it on the 'to-do' list for years, and we weren't disappointed. Got put on a waiting list for seats with a promise of a phone call in an hour, and went for a drink round the corner and sure enough were phoned up 45 minutes later when a place became free. Were seated side by side opposite another couple (which I've seen in a previous review, isn't to every-bodies taste), but actually it's a small restaurant, space is at a premium, and within minutes we were all talking to each other anyway so the forced intimacy actually became one of the best parts of the experience.
Service was excellent, the main guy is friendly and/but uber-efficient. I can see how perhaps some people might just border him on rude, but I just think he's really good at his job and his curtness is a very well measured and deliberate part of the whole experience.
All the other waitresses we dealt with on the night were knowledgeable, polite and attentive.
The menu is almost impossible to choose from with so many fabulous delights on offer, but the food was once chosen was timely to arrive and universally excellent, with the spicing of my crab adjusted to order and perfectly as I'd wished it.
I'll definitely be going back and would recommend to others, although to reference yet another review, it's probably not a 'family' restaurant. It's a very mature menu and neither the small space, nor the high tables really imply buggy friendliness. I'm sure they have nothing against children in principal, but I would take a moment to judge it's appropriateness to your own group before considering a visit.
D. S.
Do you like seafood? Top notch quality? Fabulous innovative menu & drinks? Polite friendly and knowledgeable staff? Me too! And a recent visit proving all the above still very much in play. Can't wait for my next treat here
S.
Very nice food + a super hot waiter = perfect
d. g.
A great place to enjoy some amazing seafood and prices that would cost double in London for the same standard. The crabs legs are the best I have tried.
At busy times be prepared to share a table with another couple as it's only a small place but it adds to the atmosphere to meet new people.
T. D.
I can't fault this busy but intimate seafood restaurant. You can't book, just give them your mobile number and they will call you when your table is available. Maitre D, Nigel is superb host and the staff are lovely. The food is first class here. Well worth the price. Go for whatever is Catch of the Day and you will not be disappointed.
P. J. P.
The freshest of fresh. The oysters, seafood, fish were to die for. A classic champagne and oyster bar, with catch of the day, ceviche of the day and so many elite dishes.
c. g. w.
It is absolutely AMAZING, service it great, waiting is so quick, and the staff are so lovely, one of the staff knocked my drink, and, one. Moved my phone two. Got some other staff to get paper towels, cleaned my table, made sure none of the drink got on me, and got me a new one! I'm absolutely amazed I have never seen such a better place, I just love it so much, great menue, lovely for kids, it's just amazing, I would recommend going there early though it gets quick packed, and the service is just amazing 😁
J. A. T.
Their fish is so obviously fresh and paired with tasty garnish. The vegetarian options are not to be glanced over as the flavour is superb. Everything is a good £1.50 more expensive that it needs to be but they can afford to take the risk of a pricey menu as this is a very popular restaurant.
A. M.
Brilliant restaurant - quite a long wait, but you can leave your number and they give you a call when the tables ready.
Great host on the front desk too - looked after us really well. We had oysters, calamari, fish pie and the catch of the day, all delicious!
e. e.
The food was really good, lovely staff. And we got free dessert.
W. Y. L.
Excellent food, especially chowder soup and seafood linguini. During busy times, you will be rushed to be in and out within an hour. The Google indicator of price (two Sterling signs) is misleading, expect £40-£50 per person if you drink soft drink / beer, more with wine.
E. T.
Excellent atmosphere and friendly staff. Reasonably priced for a 'treat meal'. Restaurant located in The Lanes is candle lit however there is a chance you may share a table with other diners. Not a problem, the layout of tables and dining area accomodates this very well. A really 'must do' dining experience. There is also a sister restaurant located on the seafront. More alfresco style dining.
R. O.
We went to the branch of this restaurant on the sea front. I genuinely can't rate the customer services that we received more highly. We went on a hot evening with my then six week old son. Initially they were unable to seat us outside due to the size of our group (which was fair). When we were seated inside my son started to get irritable due to the heat. Our waitress was amazing and quickly brought us cold water and towels to try and cool him down. When that was not helpful she spoke to her manager and they rearranged the tables outside and we were able to sit outside where my son calmed down. The staff were all incredibly friendly and the service was second to none. The food was also exceptional and I would definitely recommend trying this restaurant to everyone.
R. P.
Worth noting they only book a small amount ahead and the rest are walk-in, so be prepared for a wait. We were there for opening and waited in line and felt it was worth that effort. Everything was very tasty, beautifully served and came quickly. The staff were friendly, polite, chatty and engaging, they knew their stuff so could answer any questions on the dishes. I liked the no touch locking mechanism on the doors for the toilets and the airline style light system so you could see if they were engaged or vacant.
Food was beautifully presented, fresh and tasted superb. Can certainly say that the calamari was very lightly battered almost like tempura, the chowder was very light and nit quite as you would expect it to be in a trafitional New England style but we liked the flavours. The Halibut and the Boulibasse were very very tasty, would definitely go for the halibut again if I could! Didn't have dessert. I had the Old Fashioned for a cocktail and.it was finely balanced. Those around us all looked to be enjoying the oysters and various other shellfish and crustacean options.
All in all we would definitely return as it was worth the money!
F. S.
Really nice food and staff. If you are Italian avoid the pasta, it was s bit overcooked, taste is nice but still too soft. All the fish dishes are really good. Not so expensive for the quality of the food.
J. S.
This was my 2nd time here and I loved it both times. The food is phenomenal, service is awesome, the staff is friendly and fun. Keep in mind this is a seafood place. If you have vegetarian in your group, the choices are very limited.
Y. F.
Food is good but not that fresh! But still expensive.... Tho this is a restaurant just near the sea...
R. L. M.
is this the best restaurant in brighton? try it and see for yourself- if you love fresh seafood, innovative recipes and superb cooking- then it is a must for you. This place never disappoints whether it is for a romantic meal for two, a family occasion or even when i was here with over 50 guests for a work function- everyone had a great time. Good wine list too, and the decor and atmosphere is just right. The seafood platters, oysters and fresh daily specials are always good value , impressive and tasty. ideally located in the Lanes, close to bars, the only downside is that you cannot book, so it is pot luck if you can get in and it is always busy!
L. R.
For the second time we are in Brighton and for the second time we chose Riddle & Finns for our late lunch/ early dinner. We tried both the Lanes, and the Beach. I would definitely recommend to book a table.
The food is delicious, the service is great and comfortable. I can't recommend them more.
M. F.
Amazing restaurant the food is outstanding quality
m. g.
What a great seafood spot! Excellent quality and value for money. Lovely staff.. Get here early to get a table otherwise a wait of one hour or more... Wine list hits the spot and is reasonably priced.
J. A.
Absolutely stunning Mussels Mariniere. Even the bread when we arrived was unreal, came with mackerel pate, taramasalata and garlic aioli. Wish i could give it 6 stars.
I. R.
Highly recommended. Tucked away in the lanes it has a fabulous cozy candle lit atmosphere and the food is always top draw. There are 2, this one in the lanes can't be booked in advance but the one on the sea front can. You can swing by and leave your name on the wait list though. If it's warm there are a couple of tables outside. One thing to note is that all of the tables are high with high stools, so if that doesn't work for you then the sea front option is the one to go for. Good for lunch or your evening meal and alwas has a good wine list to pair your food with.
H. Q.
Absolutely stunning food. A great variety of fish to choose from and everything tastes wonderful. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes and produce. Don't miss the chance to eat here!
T. L.
Incredible seafood, great service - we came here for our anniversary/my wife's birthday. We couldn't reserve a table and the place was full so we put our name down having been told there would be a 45 minute wait, fine for us as it was our first time out without our baby so we went for a cocktail nearby to kill time. Sure enough we got a call 40 minutes later saying our table was available. We were a little dissapointed when we arrived to find we were sharing a table with a random couple (it did look as though other tables were available, just because of the occasion it would have been nice to have a table to ourselves) but in the end it wasnt a major setback and we had a good time getting to know some strangers - which is no bad thing in our day and age, and probably enhanced the whole experience - I had the curry and my wife had lobster, both of which were sublime. We actually ended up sharing a desert platter with our new found friends and fellow diners which was equally good. There was an extensive array of gins on offer which we partook in. Service was very friendly, helpful and informative with just the right level of bants, and we were even given a free drink simply for being the last of a few diners in the restaurant. Price wise its not the cheapest but definitely worth the pennies for a special occasion. Will definitely be coming back.
J. W.
So delicious oysters, lobster & seafood soup.
D. V.
Been to this restaurant a handful of times and always been impressed. Similarly the one on the Seafront. The last trip was slightly disappointing as a signature Singapore crab dish was lacking in size compared to what we're used to. Only time it's fell short though.
Staff are great, there is a good local pub, Bath Arms, to wait and have a drink in if they are full and you're waiting for a table.
S. M.
Beautiful seafood and excellent service. Highly recommended.
J. E.
Great menu and outstanding service. The ambiance and open kitchen really enhance the experience. It's quite apparent the entire staff genuinely care about the quality of the food and service, as well as the overall success of the restaurant.
E.
Great food and priced well.
If I’m back to Brighton I’ll definitely try something else!!
Highly recommend this place for anyone.
M. R.
I usually recommend this place but experience e last week was not too good. The loos smell. We had to sit side by side which was inconvenient (apparently we were to share the table if the place got full) I prefer to sit opposite the person I'm eating with.
The crab was too salty, as in I believe it was liberally coated in extra salt, which wasn't pleasant. All the male staff (no females visible that day) kept touching their hair - off putting for my companion who didn't rate the place at all!!!
M.
Will definitely come back again. Food, atmosphere, and staff all were great.

Beautiful seafood, delicious flavours and a high food turnover which is what is always ideal in a fish restaurant! I absolutely love the garlic prawns and the scallops are melt-in-the mouth good. Perfect for a special occasion.
S. G.
Such a pity, it started so well. Welcome was great, starters were very good, the environment was nice except the music. However, then we had to wait more than 30 minutes before our mains arrived. When we complained about that we were told it had only been 20 minutes since our starter plates had been removed and that was the time the fish needed to be in the oven. Once the fish finally arrived (dover sole) it was a little overcooked and it had not been cleaned well (we had to pull a few fish scales out of our mouths).
C. R.
The best fish curry I’ve ever had and the best crab I’ve ever had, I travel and eat out a lot and I can safely say this was fantastic. It’s expensive but wonderful and worth every penny.
D. J. (.
Another great Eatery in busy Brighton. Had the awesome scallops to start and the fish curry which was delightful. The whole Lobster was delicious and I had to harangue my better half to even get a taste.
E. A.
Was in the area and got a walk in reservation. Mike the Maitre d was fantastic, food, wine selection and service also great. I only wish they did Picpoul by the glass! Will definitely be back...
M. “. P. Z.
Place gets busy so please plan ahead especially that this branch takes no reservations, we have been called once table was available and served very fine selection of seafood. Lobster thermidore is to be recommended, with other dishes to follow. Oysters were big, fresh and meaty, and cooked fish comes with great sides. Staff is very polite and attentive. Place comes at the price, but once a while you have to trat yourself!

I didn’t book but they said they’d call me in about one and a half hours.. They didn’t and not to be deterred, I turned up, waited 10mins and we were seated...
The food and service was beautiful and wine was fantastic... When I’m in Brighton again, I’ll will definitely return... fantastic
T. B.
We arrived from London, together with my friend, to spend a weekend in Brighton.
Evening at Riddle & Finns was undoubtedly one of the best moments we had.
Staff, food, ambience is truly remarkable. I will definitely return and I'd recommend this resto to everyone.
Thanks guys!🙏
I. J.
Loved it...
Amazing food, excellent service
M. M.
Wow. The location was superb (we were on the seafront branch) the service was brilliant, and the food was amazing.
My wife and I have walked past the gem of a restaurant many times but we're concerned that being on the seafront would mean that they would not produce quality food. How wronged were. I friend recommended this place so thank you to them. This leaves my only complaint that I did not come earlier.
C. B.
Amazing seafood restaurant in The Laines. Table sharing is in operation, so you may make some new friends during busy times. Never had a bad dish or wine here.
H. R.
Unbelievable food in a beautiful setting! We were spoilt for choice with the menu, will definitely be visiting again. The staff are so helpful and friendly! There isn’t a huge amount of seating so get there early! A must visit!
X. H.
This meal was pure indulgence and so we did not want a formal three course meal. We therefore made up our own tapas. Tempura tiger prawns, gambas, mussels (starter portion fortunately!), scallops in lemon and parsley and sautéed potatoes. Ginger beer and loads of water too. Position, atmosphere, service and, of course, the food were all fantastic. We had eaten in the restaurant with friends before- a couple of years ago. That was a winter's night inside but also excellent and we have had lunch in the R and F in the Lanes. All three experiences have been delightful and we shall certainly go again.
g. h.
I was going to give zero stars so is locals have more chance of getting a table but is simply brilliant & a much loved institution of Brighton
G. M.
One of the best fish restaurants it's been my pleasure to eat at we will definitely be back on our next trip.
Food, menu and staff were great and not expensive, a positive joy.
m. m.
Absolutely perfect. It was full, they took our number and said the wait would be around 15-20 min. We went for a wander and drink and they called us when the table was ready. The next improvement waiting around. Stunning food. First class
A. R.
Amazing restaurant, really loved the food and the wine. The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially with all of our allergies. Interesting "social" seating arrangement. Would definitely go back.
R. W.
Been many times, the perfect place for a long indiscreet lunch 🍸
L. C.
A real Brighton institution! They don't take bookings so you need to go on the day and see when they can fit you in. Delicious fresh fish and excellent service. I was very jealous of my husband's catch of the day, but my crab linguine was delicious too.
L. S. C.
Best seafood restaurant I’ve ever been. Would give it 10 stars if I could. The fish is so fresh and the wine list is fabulous
J. H.
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and this was the highlight of our day. We chose from the 2 course lunch menu. With a glass of prosecco the bill came to only £35. All the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.
M. G.
Great welcome and amazing service. The seafood linguine are to die for, absolutely delicious. Location is slightly quirky and makes you think to an old fish market, very charming.
C. B.
Tasty food, great service. We just had light bites this time, monkfish cheeks, calamari with peanut satay sauce; octopus and seaweed salad washed down by a glass of fizz and the mains we've had in the past were very good. We will be returning.I'm
J. B.
I have eaten here many times over the years and I have never had a bad meal, the quality of ingredients is second to none, staff are always very knowledgable and friendly, and Nigel is so welcoming and has a good laugh with you. The menu is great, having tried most things on the menu, I still struggle to recommend a dish as they are all so delicious, the best seafood restaurant in town by miles
O. C.
Delicious fresh seafood and excellent service. We had oysters, scallops, octopus, mackerel, plaice and Dover sole, all superb. Definitely worth a visit if you like fish.
F. M.
Excellent place for seafood, and with great service: friendly and accommodating but not too much, and not "nagging". We would definitely come back if there is the occasion.
Cherry on top: the selection of desserts was wonderful.
T. C.
Great restaurant! Amazing food and the staff were all lovely too. We were unsure about the shared tables when we arrived as we were facing another couple but it was actually really good.
N. F.
Riddle and Finns is one of my favourite restaurants in Brighton, actually anywhere. It is a little quirky having to share tables. Though the food and service make up for any draw backs. To be honest the place normally draw an interesting crowd and adds to the occasion. The fish is excellent and prepared in the kitchen in the front window. While not a cheap place the value is very good, with sensibly price wine selection.
If you love fish, this is a must go place that never stops impressing you.
h. s. g.
Good seafood but poor customer service at the entrance for table places. We were told that there was an hour and a half wait so we sat outside however for most of the time we were there there were unfilled places for 2. The gentlemen at the entrance taking the places for the waiting list was quite dismissive of us. That was the only bad experience the rest of the waiters and chefs were excellent. We have been quite a few times but customer loyalty seems lacking.we were there 2.30 pm sunday 24th sept.
A. D.
The shared table concept was amazing. Food was delicious and servive was great!
S. R.
Watching the chef open the oysters was informative especially when he gagged after sniffing the just opened mollusc. For a nasty moment I thought he was going to add it to the few he had already opened. To my delight and relief he binned the batch and opened a fresh batch. They were excellent!!
E. S.
This is one of the best restaurants we have visited anywhere. Courteous and amazing service even staff filleting fish for you at the table. The sushimi was amazing! This must be one of the best authentic non-chain restaurants in the UK!
M. B.
Food was amazing! The staff were very attentive. We had our 2year old with us and they were very accomodating and even gave her a homemade chocolate truffle at the end of our meal.
J. C.
Absolutely amazing staff very friendly, the food was very high quality really fresh I would recommend booking in advance as it is definitely worth it
V. S.
Delicious seafood. All really fresh and tasty. Had the platter, go for it, it's plentiful and tasty. Tried the lobster salad and a few gorgeous oysters. Was recommended to go there by a friend and wasn't disappointed.
J. W.
Unstuffy. Friendly staff. Delicious fresh fish. Great G +T's. Varied wine list.
V. C.
Lovely spot for brunch. Really enjoyed the grilled free range sausage, roasted tomatoes, crispy free range bacon, black pudding & Brighton scallops w/poached egg (£10.95). Great way to start the morning!
P. B.
A lovely fish restaurant. Lovely food, great vibe, lovely warm and friendly service, fun venue and location, and the communal tables are super for making new friends and swapping tales (pun intended). Heartily recommend the place.
J. M.
Incredible quality fantasic service! Really impressed not much food makes me emotional highly recommend this place to any fish eaters wanting something special.
E.
Well laid out interior, with friendly, professional staff. Delicious oysters, and fantastic mains tied together with excellent champagne. No better place in Brighton for seafood.
K. H.
This is THE place to go if you want to eat fish. The restaurant is nice, the food is good quality, and our waitress Michelle was very professional. I'll be returning without s doubt
S. E.
What a wonderful meal. Outstanding seafood and authentic clam chowder. Such a lovely atmosphere and our waitress was so nice and friendly. Thank you for a great evening.
J. C.
Delicious food, great service, great ambience, great location. Chose Riddle & Finns, The Lanes for a special occasion - really glad we did. Definitely want to return next time I'm in Brighton!
F. K.
Good ambiance and friendly staff. The greatest calamari in a long time. However Gambas (King prawns) were very overcooked. It was disappointing to find out from the waiter that the restaurant buys pre cooked prawns (which does mean NOT FRESH, as I don't see other reason than that for buying pre-coooked prawns).
G. B.
Fantastic food and great service. Definitely worth a visit.
J. C.
Fabulous fish restaurant. Friendly upbeat staff who care about their customers. You can easily sit in for 3 hours. Reasonably priced. Excellent place to meet, eat and drink.
C. A.
The set menu didnt have enough choices or any side dish to it so no carbs with the fish, fennel and pac choy. What we had was very tasty and the staff were lovely.
M. M.
Lovely restaurant and efficient and friendly staff
P. O.
A beautiful restaurant with attentive staff that know their fish.
The food is served promptly and is served up like a piece of art. If you're a lover of seafood and find yourself in The Lanes, I thoroughly recommend you go here, you won't be disappointed.
O. A.
Absolutely lovely seafood restaurant- the quality of the food seems really good (not really a seafood aficionado) and the service was perfectly fine. Very expensive though- it might be in some people's price range, but it's certainly not in mine.
N. P.
Everytime we are in Brighton we have to eat in Riddle and Finns! If you are a seafood lover like me you will love it!Lemon sole, oysters, seaweed salad and seafood linguine a few of their plates i have tried and i highly reccomend them!Very friendly and helpful staff too. Keep it up!
J. O.
Superb food cant wait to go back!
P. W.
This was a truly amazing lunch. Wonderful sashimi. Fantastic whole crab cooked in a wok . Excellent sharing plate for dessert. Impressive wine list. Attentive friendly knowledgable service
S. R.
Exceptional - amazing food, fabulous front of house (especially Hatty ) would highly recomended!
P. J.
Exceptional food and service! We had such a nice evening here. Can't wait to come back again.
N. E.
Absolutely fantastic. Came here in September 2018. The chefs were quite young but cook like they’ve been at it for a lifetime. Highly recommended!
J. N.
This restaurant never disappoints.
Friendly service, with a menu that has clearly been considered and tasted. There is no doubt that the chefs love what they do here.
Bravo! Riddle and Finns.
I. N.
Small place but with amazing food!! It was our first time in Brighton and we were desperately looking for seafood. Prices were really good and the food quality was really good! The staff were lovely and really helpful!
M. F.
A really great option in you find yourself in Brighton and fancy a bit of seaside fish and chip indulgence. Their produce is fresh and zingy and they don't over complicate the cooking of it, allowing the produce to shine on its own. It can get a bit expensive, but then I don't mind paying for good, fresh, well prepared food.
Y. T.
We tried seafood & oyster platters. Oysters outperformed.
R. O. (.
My girlfriend and I stay in Brighton 3 or 4 times a year and will almost certainly pay a visit each time. Great seafood, a nice choice of beer and wine and very friendly staff, especially the manager. The bill is also pretty reasonable.
M. T.
We went for our Christmas party, nice friendly and knowledgeable staff.
I had the octopus to start then we shared the royal it was the nicest meal I have ever had.
Can’t wait to go back
J. G.
Good service and good food, although the mains were slow to arrive. The restaurant is small so you'll be sat directly opposites other diners, which is a little awkward. If you're in the area, and like your seafood it's worth checking out.
K. N.
Lovely crab and wine. Very attentive and friendly staff :)
B. M.
Great ! Tucked away amongst the lanes (was a bit hard to find) you'll find this small but delicious seafood restaurant. Was referred here by the guide of a cycle tour - he was spot on! Friendly and efficient staff. Fun place!
K. M.
We had the set menu at lunch time, really good value and delicious. Wonderful, smiling helpful staff was an added bonus. We will definitely return.
A. R.
Surely there's no finer fish restaurant in Brighton. Excellent choice on the menu, my bream ceviche followed by bouillabaisse was wonderful. Friendly staff. Highly recommended
P. C.
Had a great meal here, lovely fresh seafood, and one of only a few places I know of where you can get a proper fruits dear mer. Plus really friendly staff and lovely ambiance.
J. C.
Two of us had a lovely dinner at Riddle and Finns on Sunday, accompanied a lovely bottle of Sancerre, and a great amosphere.
Food: Very good! We started with potted shrimps and the calamari, both of which got the juices flowing (accompanied by a lovely glass of quite reasonably priced house Champagne). We followed with the singapore crab and lobster thermidor. While the crab didn't quite match that of Clarke Quay, it was perfectly cooked and very flavoursome. The lobster was exquisite.
Service: The lady serving us was very attentative, and very knowledgeable. With little encouragement, we were also given a wealth of information about good bars and music in the area after the meal.
Atmosphere: This type of restaurant quite often falls into the stuffy category, but we found the place vibrant, accessible and romantic at the same time.
Price: The meal came to £140 for the two of us, but this included two starters and two mains, as well as 2 glasses of champagne, and a lovely bottle of Sancerre. Not cheap, but for arguably the best seafood in Brighton, well worth it. With a splash of frugality, you could easily cut this bill.
For lunch the next day, we found ourselves in the sister restaurant Due South on the waterfront, which did not disappoint. All in all, a lovely pair of restaurants that we will inevitably visit again on our next trip.
J. O.
Lovely food and great staff. Worth a visit if you love seafood.
C. W.
This place is AMAZING. Fish as it should be. Thank you! Not majorly keen on seating arrangements (sat with strangers!) but a (relatively) small price to pay for the quality of food and service.
D. S.
Absolutely splendid! The squid in a chorizo and ginger sauce was spectacular
A. O.
Thermidor lobster is sensational!
A. A.
So yummy the fish I could barely move after! .. would have been 5* if they got our receipt right the first time. They overcharged us twice! Lucky we checked!
S.
Very friendly staff and he food is magnificent - so so fresh! You cannot go wrong here - if you go on a weekday you have a wider choice when it comes to seating but it is really not a hassle.
C. E.
So good so good!! If you’re thinking about getting seafood in Brighton, you have to come! So fresh and delicious. New England clam chowder is my fav!
J.
Our favourite eating place in Brighton. We're regulars often there. Staff are great as is the food. Never had a bad meal here.
G. C.
Had a great meal off the fixed price menu on Wednesday evening. It has a really cosy atmosphere. Really pleased we ate here. Will go back again.
E. M.
Me and the girls always go here before going out into town. The food is always outstanding and we always receive a lovely welcome from the guys working there
M. T.
No question, this is a first rate restaurant with superb food, as well as the one in the Lanes. The only bugbear I would like to mention is that although the service is excellent and the staff are attentive, some of them are over familiar with the customers. For me, being addressed as “My darling” or “You guys” is not polite or friendly. It is over familiar, especially from enthusiastic young ladies young enough to be my granddaughters. I know that nowadays these expressions are what passes for politeness and friendliness but they are wrong. It is incorrect, uncomfortable and off putting. I would point out that I am not an old biddy or without a sense of humour. However, woe betide anyone who calls me “Sweetheart or Lovey or My Darling” if ever I’m unlucky enough to enter a care home.! The only time these vernacular expressions are acceptable to strangers is from market traders, cabbies, London East Enders, etc. Something for Room 101 I think.
D. S.
We enjoy it more each time we visit. Excellent service and the food is amazing.
D. A.
As always, fantastic food, great service. Love this place
M. J.
Classy seafood restaurant. Decor is like an old fish'n'chip shop, but the ingredients and service is more like high end restaurant. Really enjoyed my visit.
A. A.
Amazing food. Helpful staff. Friendly people.
I. _.
Good food, not expensive, but service was simply rude. We went between lunch and dinner and it was totally empty, but still we were told to sit side by side (seating policy). In short dont expect same service as in London or NYC and you might be in for a treat.
J. B.
Delicious food at realistic prices.
S. H.
What a great place to go! We had an impromptu lunch here late afternoon but the experience was great, the food superb and staff brilliant and engaging. Thoroughly recommended!
S. A.
Very delicious food, and very nice people.
P. M.
Excellent food freshly cooked. may have to wait for fresh cooking. Friendly staff. Expensive, but worth the cost. Get there early to get the catch of the day.
S. Z.
Fantastic seafood in a brilliant setting. The fish was extremely fresh, the oysters excellent, the staff great. An amazing night.
H. A.
lovely food ,great atmosphere.
A. D.
Love this restaurant. Takes sea food up to another level. Seriously! Knock yourself out selection and choice. Oysters, crabs, lobsters.....all finger licking! Love it.
P. B.
Drinks a little on the pricey side but a good selection of seafood on the menu. I'd recommend booking a table as can get busy at peak times.
D. B.
Fantastic food. Best fish I've eaten out for years.
K. M.
Fantastic service and choice. Beautifully cooked and presented dishes. Absolutely stunning sums up our experience!!!

Can't book a table which is a bit annoying but the food is really good, maybe a little on the pricey side, especially for alcohol. Good for a fancier meal out in an awesome location.

A bit on the pricey side but lovely place to spend a special occasion and i think it is to be expected for what you get.
D. K.
Scallops and fish cakes were amazing.
I didn't realise mackerel could taste so delicious..
Shame I didn't leave enough room for their delicious sweets.
A. d. W.
Lovely food and service.

Wide range of fresh seafood dishes. Really friendly staff. If you're visiting Brighton, it's a must visit place.

Delicious seafood served in an informal cosy space. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

5-star oysters; 4-star lobster; 3-star catch of the day, and octopus.
Generally, 4 star.

Great food, excellent service. Would recommend the mussels, as well as the scallops in XO sauce - an interesting, delicious combination.
G. W.
Just fantastic! It's walk in only so you need to get there early then come back! But it's worth the wait!
J. G.
Fantastic food and lovely service. Get your name on the door nice and early though - then just go find a pub til it is time!
G. A.
Lovely fish restaurant on the beech of Brighton. Quality fish good wines what's not to enjoy, especially on New year's Day!
J. P.
Absolutely loved the place. Seafood excellent wide choice attentive staff. What a treat to find somewhere different.
J. L.
Odd side by side seating policy, but the staff were friendly and the food was great. Our fish pie and shellfish risotto were both great.
J. R.
Midi be the best seafood restaurant in Brighton. Friendly attentive staff. Great atmosphere. Divine food. Not rushed.
M. B.
Delicious food and excellent, friendly service

Had the most beautifully presented, prepared seafood and it was sooo good, yeah, I mean that good. Problem, they are always almost full, but don't despair, go look around and come back, well worth the wait.
J. S.
Lovely food, great quality, never had a bad meal, it’s the only restaurant I’d go to on the beach! Great in winter too!

Great food as always. On a hot day the restaurant stays cool.
C. M.
Great seafood! Highly recommended
T. N.
The very best seafood restaurant in Brighton. I love their sea bream! I might try the set menu for the next time
E. F.
What I call posh fish and chips. I love that you have to share a table with others if you don't fill up the table yourselves. Great service and food.
G. J.
Very good fresh fish. We had a quick stop for lunch and were greeted by friendly staff who served wonderfully cooked fresh fish.
A. M.

What a wonderful experience at the Ridddle & Finns in Brighton today, the food was superb, excellent service, if you like seafood you must give this restaurant a try xx
