Reviews of The Coal Shed Restaurant Brighton

What a find. We were in Brighton for work and booked a table here. It's a cute small restaurant, with a solid menu. As a larger group we tried all the starters as tapas style then had steak. My steak was cooked perfectly and really tasty. What a find - ill definitely be back when next in Brighton
P. D.
This is one amazing place, steaks are amazing, awesome service, prawns for starters was probably the best prawns I’ve had, and even when we asked for a flavoured cider they didn’t have any but offered to make one which was more amazing that an other flavoured cider we’ve had before. Can’t wait to come back. I’d give ten stars if I could it was that good!!!
P. S.
One of the few restaurants in the uk utilising a Josper grill which is a combination of charcoal grill and oven.
Because of the high temperature it gives especially the steaks a very nice charred flavour.
The service Personal is fast and friendly and I can’t fault the dishes here like sea bream or minute steak. Lunch and early bird dinner 5-6:30pm are also good value for money.

Would highly recommend The Coal Shed to anyone looking for a great steak in Brighton. The restaurant is small but cozy and even with being sat in the middle of the restaurant, it was still comfortable and never cramped. Our server was funny and welcoming and was always there to fill up our wine glasses and to check in. We both had the fillet with a variety of sides - garlic potatoes, creamed spinach, mac and cheese and the broccoli. All were extremely tasty and the steak was tender and cooked perfectly. All of the accompanying sauces for the steak were delicious as well and I would recommend sampling all three. Overall, The Coal Shed is a little on the pricier side but was a great experience and I would recommend to anyone seeking out a restaurant for a special occasion.

Lovely little restaurant just off the seafront.Amazing steak 🥩 cooked to perfection and the octopus 🐙 starter was delicious. Very friendly & engaging owner & polite staff who went the extra mile for our 22nd anniversary.Would definitely recommend

The food was amazing! Couldn't fault the quality and the sheer skill in the execution in the cookery. The scallops were incredibly tender and could melt in the mouth! Followed by a chateaubriand that was cooked to perfection, with a smokey after taste that was to die for!
The only thing that let our experience down was the service. Our waiter seemed more distracted with the 2 ladies sitting next to us rather than serving us, giggling with them, pouring them wine and not us even though we were sharing the same ice bucket with empty glasses. When he did speak to us, he felt rather rude, especially in comparison.
I normally wouldn't mind so much, except we had ordered one of the most expensive things on the menu and they charged a 12.5% service charge for a service that was mediocre at best. Slightly soured our experience.
Would strongly recommend for the food alone!

Had a lovely meal here this evening. Food was outstanding, steak cooked perfectly. The waiter upstairs from Zimbabwe was excellent and attentive. He picked up it was my fathers birthday & surprised us with a birthday treat at the end of our meal. Really put a lovely end to our short break in Brighton. Definitely will be returning

We had a great time at the coal shed, the food was lovely, my husband had Rib Eye which he really enjoyed, I had the veggie option, was nice but huge! The dessert was our least favourite item, we both had crumble, looked amazing but was a little bit bland, normal custard would have been preferred. The waitress and bar staff were very friendly and attentive, drinks were nice too.

Ambiance was OK. Service excellent. Considering that this is supposed to be one of the top 5 restaurants in UK with prices to match in my opinion it did not live up to its hype. We were there for Sunday lunch and perhaps I was wrong in ordering the traditional Sunday roast which was extremely fatty albeit well cooked and presented. 90%+ of the beef was unedible. Perhaps the fillet steak would have been a better choice.
A. S.
Really lovely service and great food. Probably the best crispy prawns I've ever had 👌
P. R.
Great atmosphere and amazing food! We came here unexpectedly after being turned away from another restaurant as they were fully booked. We were impressed with the food from starter to dessert. Will definitely come back again. The staff are amazing, they all had smile on their faces and are very hospitable.
P. C.
Really nice atmosphere and staff. The food is delicious but a bit pricey. For special occasions is completely fine. I would definitely be back.

Visited the Coal Shed, which I been to several times especially when it first opened.
The service absolutely nailed it, a chap called Mark (older bloke) looked after us, like we were guests in his home.
He chose some great reds for us to go with our rib eye steaks, mushrooms, potatoes & chips & was super attentive, like an old friend you haven’t seen in a long time to us. We got to Coal Shed at 8.30 & think we were the last to leave, it was that good.
Incredible evening, thank you

This restaurant ticks all the boxes. Perfect for a date night. Cosy intimate atmosphere, friendly service and excellent food. This will be a regular haunt from now on :)

Have been wanting to visit for a while now and wow I’m glad we did!! Great service, they didn’t have the drink I wanted so the barman made me something he thought would taste similar. It didn’t it tasted amazing so hats off to him. The food we had was top quality too, lovely juicy prawns and a yummy steak!!😍 think I found a new favourite place to eat. Thankyou for making our anniversary extra special
J. D.
A good rather than excellent option . We were ultimately underwhelmed given the price, portions and lack of ingredients such as vegetables . The service is very good as is the tidied away venue . The starters are very good ( especially the pork ) but the mains are small and expensive . If you pay £30 for a steak you expect a hint of vegetables ( not just sauce) . This was not a side option ? You can have chips ( all 6 of them ) . My wife is 8 stone and still felt hungry after 3 courses !. The quality is good overall but we have had better fine dining experiences at this price . We won’t be going back
D. R.
Staff are really friendly and they have a really good selection of wines. Although the meat is the draw the fish and veg options are really good quality and so tasty. Although the steak seems expensive as it is done by the gram, it's so worth the money.

Context: We booked this restaurant off the recommendation of Trip Advisor for a nice meal with my wife on a brief Saturday- Monday break in Brighton, so expectations were high. On a scale of full to very hungry I was 7/10 hungry.
Oh lawdy, we were not disappointed.
What we ordered:
4 cocktails
2 person sharing Sunday roast
Orange Truffles
That Sunday roast was one of the best I've ever had in my life, the sirloin steak was definitely the best I've ever had, de-throning The Ram in Hammersmith, and massively outdoing Marco Pierre Steakhouse that we had recently as a wedding present.
The roast is served in a giant cast iron pan with honey glazed carrots, beef dripping roast potatoes, the beef, and Yorkshire puddings on top, and then 2 small pots of cauli cheese and buttered(?) cabbage, and we got 2 pots of gravy which another waitress joked was rare, absolutely delicious, portion sizes were great and the presentation was top notch, a feast for the eyes!
The orange truffles were a really nice delicate balance of the bitter cacoa coating and the indulgent, smooth orange flavoured truffle inside, really good way to round off the meal, not at all too big.
The cocktails were small but well made and not watered down at all, full of flavour. I had the Silk Road and Classical Riff, highly recommend, my wife had an Apple and Sorrel Smash and a Pynk, again very well balanced - the Pynk was especially good.
The staff were really nice, I wish I got our waiter's name as I'd give him a shout out here. We didn't feel badgered or pressured to rush, nor did we feel abandoned at all, just the right amount of service!
T. B.
Excellent food. Amazing attentive staff. A little pricey but good for a special occasion
V. R.
The service was very good and the food was delicious, especially the meat!
L. P.
Food was amazing, the service would have let it down if it wasn't for the manager on shift Sarah. Working in hospitality myself I notice the little things, and while my table was falling into back round of a busy service Sarah pulled it out of the bag and went above and beyond while the actual waitress just looked after tables that she thought deserved her attention... apart from that.. 5* great atmosphere, great food. Shame about the greedy waitresses
A. D.
Had an incredible Sunday lunch, with all the trimmings. Just to die for, not your traditional roast just an incredible 500g of prime aged beef for 2 to share and some very very good veggies. The cauliflower cheese especially is to die for. Have eaten dinner here before and their meat is truly excellent - a carnivorous delight
T. B.
My very high expectations were met. Great service, fantastic food and a lovely selection of wines. Difficult to find a better steak in Brighton. Bravo and thank you team Coal Shed!
R. P.
Fabulous steak restaurant. Tucked away in the Lanes. Dark wood interior. Excellent atmosphere.
Great service. Fab waiter with really dry sense of humour. Really looked after us.
Sirloin steak was gorgeous. Had mine rare. Melted in the mouth. Perfectly cooked. Beef dripping chips yum yum with the creamiest spinich that I've had.
Starterl. Salty crab on a bed of fennel and sauce again lovely.
Dark chocolate desert with raisins and salted caramel ice cream. To finish.
Could not fault service or food.
A bit more expensive than your average restaurant. But well worth it. My meal with 2 soft drinks £70.
Best steak I've had in a long while.
T.
Amazing food! Good portions which sometimes posher restaurants lack in, but not the coal shed! Nice atmosphere and staff. You wouldent expect this little gem hidden away down a side road. Shame that it's quite expensive otherwise I would be here weekly!
A. R.
Fine, nice place with slightly above average steak with very above average prices. Service good, sides "ok" (chips great, mushrooms literally no better than ones you'd do at home). Nothing really wrong with anything but you can get better for less in the same sort of environment elsewhere in brighton. Needs to up its game really to justify the cost..
A. R. (.
Ola our waitress was absolutely brilliant, nothing was to much trouble for her. She had us in stitches, she has a wicked sense of humour, even if it was more in favour of my wife, all light hearted of course.Other waiting staff were just as pleasant and efficient. The steaks where cooked in my opinion perfectly, so hand clap for the grill chef. All food was absolutely lovely.Thank you,Andre and Terry
А. К.
Small and cozy place on the side street, which is not so easy to find, tables are next to each other, but food is just delicious 🤤
We came for dinner the other night and were impressed with a steak quality and taste of food in general!
A. S.
First time visiting The Coal Shed and I would definitely visit again. The food was amazing, and the staff were so friendly, helping with wine pairings, and also assisted with a surprise cake for my birthday. Definitely recommend to anyone in Brighton.
K. I.
I came here for a meal with my mum to celebrate her wedding which was happening the following day. The place was so cute and the staff were amazing! They helped me an hour before with what decorations I could bring and let me come in early to set up. They so helpful with everything in general, efficient and so lovely towards us both and even threw in a dessert saying congratulations which was so sweet and tasted great! Would definitely come back here in the future :)
b.
We visited the Coal Shed last month, the service was fantastic and our food was tasty. The steak was cooked perfectly and went excellently with the chimichurri.
We would definitely recommend it to others in the Brighton area.
O. D.
Our 2nd time at The Coal Shed, you did not disappoint. Service was amazing, and the food the same. Our waitress was fantastic tonight. Steak 💯!! 😋😋😋
Highly recommended. You made visiting Brighton special. ❤️

My boyfriend took me out for dinner at this restaurant. It's a quaint little restaurant and at first, we had high hopes for this place.
However, the fact that we had to wait for nearly an hour for our food to arrive, made it a not so great experience for us. And all the while, there was no communication from the staff to us or any sort of apologies for the delay.
And then our meals arrived. Honestly, there was really nothing special about it - the portion were very small, it wasn't mind-blowing or anything, yet we paid nearly £200 for it. I wasn't impressed at all.
L. M.
Delicious food, friendly staff, quick service. A little expensive but worth every penny! Very busy on a weeknight so would advise booking a table.
J. S.
Amazing meal, me and my husband came in for dinner and had two fillet steaks with a whole bunch of sides including the broccoli , Mac and cheese , beef fat chips and carrots. And omg everything was to die for! I need that Mac and cheese recipe 🤣🤣🤣
I don’t even like Mac and cheese but I will now only eat yours 🤣
S. M.
We were squeezed onto a very tight table upstairs. Service was good, food tasted good. Shared the beef rib, but not much on it for £48.
h. s.
was visiting brighton the week before last for my mother-in-law's birthday and we booked a table at the coal shed for the main night. we were a party of 6. i can honestly say that this was some of the best food i've had at a restaurant since my 40th at miller & carter's (muswell hill). the menu choices are exceptional, the drinks are fantastic (great choices for wine), impressively thought out decor and the staff are extremely amiable, welcoming & jovial without being intrusive. extra points for being the first establishment i've ever walked into to hear public image ltd. being played over the house speakers. i heartily advise not to miss this place should you find yourself in town.
N. S.
One of the best steak we had in the UK. Very good table service and very kind stuff. Highly recommend!
M. L.
Outstanding food. By far the best steak I can remember eating. Never before can I remember receiving a steak that was prepared better than I could have expected.
The menu is simple and unfussy, yet the dishes are all calling out to be tried.
It is a compact but classy establishment. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Excellent wine selection and artisan cocktails.
Well worth a visit but book ahead, particularly at the weekend, as we were very lucky, and saw many people turned away.
S. S.
Lovely restaurant, food was incredible and staff very friendly and helpful. I would dine here again, but is a treat(££)
K. N.
Gorgeous meal there recently. There was a big group of us and we all loved the food. The mashed potato was incredible! Great service and lovely wine too
T. F.
Not easy on the wallet but really lovely food.
Staff are attentive and friendly.
Can be a little noisy when packed
A.
Our third visit here and again it didn't disappoint. Had the shared roast which was cooked to perfection.
S. R.
Nice and cosy place. Warm vibes. Staff is friendly and helpful. We ordered the burrata with potato bread, 700g chateaubriand, truffle mac 'n cheese, wilted spinach and beans. Would highly recommended, they accept AMEX.
A. T.
Great atmosphere and very good wine. I had the burrata as starter and chicken as main course. Chicken was a bit dry and could have used slightly more sauce or vegetables, but overall still very much worth going for a modern, out of the box meal.
T. S.
Chilled out atmosphere, attentive and helpful staff and of course great food. Steak was cooked to perfection with wonderful taste. Some of the best steak I have had in the uk.
T. R.
Absolutely the best dining experience! We had super-delicious steaks cooked exactly as we ordered. Chips were to die for, and our waitress Claire couldn’t have been more helpful. Thanks for looking after us so well and for making our birthday celebrations special.
L.
What an amazing night! The food was absolutely incredible, the service was helpful and fun, the atmosphere was perfect... can't wait to go back... that is when I've recovered from the food coma, ha!
W. S.
A great place. The steak is really nice! Good choice of wine. A very talkative and fantastic owner. You will feel like at cosy home. Strongly recommended!
The waiter is really nice and helpful. What was a very beneficial she can speak as well Polish. Love it!
A. P.
I loved this place. I don’t think I’ve had a better steak anywhere in the world. Service was brilliant, efficient and friendly. Great atmosphere and every course was fresh, delicious and perfectly cooked. I can’t wait to go back next time I’m in Brighton. Well done!
M.
Fantastic steak at the price you would expect from a high end steak restaurant. The sides I had were not quite at the same standard as the steak but still good. Attentive staff and excellent service.
Β. Τ.
Best Sunday roast in Brighton and top3 restaurant in the city (number 1 for me). Excellent food and great service as always.
If I have one request is just to bring back a desert from 4-5 years ago. A donut with an espresso ice-cream if I remember correctly. One of the best deserts I have ever had and unfortunately it hasn't been in the menu for 4+years now. As a regular I 'd love to have it again one time. Please bring it back 🙏🏻
P. J.
Well, we’ve been waiting to reschedule a visit for almost two years as we’d booked for Mother’s Day before Covid hit. We finally managed to get booked in today and my goodness are we glad it happened. We arrived early so it was very quiet. The decor and music were just brilliant for a relaxed but fun lunch. The service is excellent by all, a great balance of attentive, friendly and relaxed. Some of the items weren’t available which is understandable but substitutes were great. In fact all the food as excellent, all the way to the children’s menu. I wish I’d taken pictures to show it all but it was too good to wait! The cod was fresh, perfectly cooked and the charred hispi cabbage was incredible. I hear the burger was excellent too. We had panna cotta and churros for pudding and both were superb. As it’s a small venue, even when it got busy it was easy going yet buzzy. We came out of curiosity and now we are already planning our return to try the steaks. Thoroughly recommend!
D. S.
Not sure I would go again at their prices but this was a special occasion and the chateaubriand was excellent! It was very busy and they were turning people away all evening so they're certainly doing something right! Be aware they add a 12.5% service charge to all orders but I was aware of this in advance
T.
Bangin steak family friendly took my little lad and baby daughter staff couldn’t have been more accommodating great place
R. J.
Simply amazing! Highly recommended! Just look at that steak…😋
R. B.
Made reservations for dinner on my boyfriend's birthday. Were seated at a candle-lit table by the window, the decor was simple and understated, and the whole ambience cosy and romantic. Had smoked salmon and some delicious short rib croquettes to start, and then perfectly cooked lamb and rib-eye mains, with equally great sides of chips, spinach, mash and bearnaise. We also each had an hibiscus punch. The service was attentive and very friendly yet discreet. Our server asked me privately if we were celebrating anything and within a few minutes of telling her, a sweet little birthday plate appeared in front of my boyfriend. That was a nice touch. The bill came to just over £100, including the service charge, which I think was reasonable seeing as it was a treat and we enjoyed ourselves. I would recommend this restaurant for the delicious food and considerate service.
S. R.
I booked a table here for my girlfriend's birthday meal. The staff were lovely and engaged with the customers, and the resturant was really nice. The menu had a good selection of dishes, we had the rib-eye and the fillet steak with chips, mac 'n' cheese, greens and mushrooms. I had the rib-eye cooked medium rare, I was slightly disappointed with the meat, having had a steak in London the week before at a less expensive resturant I was hoping for this to at least be on the same level, BUT that being said my girlfriend really enjoyed the fillet steak and we both liked the rest of the food. So over all a nice meal, and I hope yo enjoy it a bit more if we come again.
A. L.
Down a back street, behind a deceptively ordinary façade lies a treasure trove for carnivores (with a nod to fish lovers as well). All sorts of beef cuts are available cooked over coal, whether to share or go it alone.
Monkfish and Cod as well as Lamb Rump, Short Rib and Burgers all vied for our attention, but we were there for the Cumbrian beef steaks and plumped for a 300 gram ribeye each.
We shared a portion of Short Rib Croquettes to ease us in, together with a glass of Zinfandel.
Our Ribeyes came with superb Beef Fat Chips and Tenderstem Broccoli with ‘Nduja Butter. The meat was smoky and tender and perfectly cooked.
We managed a Chocolate Delice and some Truffles to finish with and left sated and very satisfied.
Excellent service completed a very good lunch. With Coffee and water the bill came to around £60 per head.
L. C.
Had the most amazing lunch here yesterday. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food was show stopping! Recommend the pork belly, battered king prawns, rib eye steak, maple carrots and garlic potatoes! Already looking forward to going back next time I’m in Brighton.
L. K.
Popularity of this place and the necessity to book for a weekend meal hint the high quality of food that is served here. While the prices are not low, you will not regret popping in for a delicious treat.
J. R.
The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. We went for a light bite with two sides each which was perfect for us. The desserts were very nice too, my girlfriend said the cheeseboard was excellent.
M. M.
A bit on the pricey side but if you like your steak (which we did) it's well worth it! Wine was really nice too but also a bit expensive, recommend booking as there were lots of reservations. Would have loved to try the sharing steak but 800g for 2 ppl was a bit too much
L. G.
Came for the Sunday lunch. Absolutely beautiful food all round. Steak, truffle cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and more all amazing
L. M.
Went here for a birthday meal. Really well cooked steak and attentive staff. Shame we live so far away
B. R.
Outstanding food. A central and convenient location and very friendly staff.
Delicious food and the steak was perfectly cooked.
Highly recommended.
A. M.
Were told that the restaurant and food were good.... hence booking for our short break.
The greeting We received as we entered was polite and pleasant. The ambiance on the upper floor was great. The service was attentive and quick, although we didn't feel rushed at any stage. The food.... well it was better than good, it was well presented and very tasty. The bill came in and was very reasonable for the quality of the food, service and overall experience.
D. D.
Wonderful lunch, we were served by Claire who was just incredible. Service Food and ambience all fantastic here.
S. M.
This is not 'just a steakhouse'. The food is great, delicious and well presented, and everything is top quality. The icing on the cake was the staff who were all friendly, warm, and made our anniversary visit wonderfully special. Thankyou all!
W.
Went there last night for dinner. Delicious food; steaks cooked to perfection, melt-in-the-mouth scallops, cocktails to die for, and truffles you want to take back to your hotel room. The cherry on top was the woman who took care of us. She was spectacular; very attentive and friendly. My partner and I felt right at home! Even watching the other waitresses and bar staff, we could tell they were professionals and enjoyed what they were doing, which we believe is absolute gold when working in hospitality. It might be a bit pricy, but if you're looking for a romantic night out or have something to celebrate, this restaurant is definitely one to go to. Nothing to fault!
K. B.
4 of us visited on a Saturday evening. I can honestly say it was one of the best steaks I've had! Everything was perfect - the wine recommendations and tasters, the staffs knowledge and the food! We had a started each, steak and 2 sides, and have no spafe left for dessert. Already planning our next visit.
a. a. b. a.
It was ok but never go again my steak was ok but chewy the veg was ok the steak left it down for me i was hoping for a nice one
S. M.
The most amazing food & fab decor. Great service. Will definitely go back.
A. R.
One of the BEST roast dinners ever! Lovely atmosphere and helpful staff :)
M. K.
Great restaurant with great food experience. We didn't had a reservation but staff managed to sort out seats very quickly. Food was excellent.
A. K.
Service is a bit slow and food rather pricey but good enough.
If you're vegan you should probably look for an alternative as everything contains dairy
N. W.
The staff were friendly and accommodating and the food was amazing. I even got a birthday truffle :) we will definitely come back
D. L.
Great food and drinks. Really friendly staff who looked after us well.
S. B.
My girlfriend and I ordered the Chateaubriand at medium rare and came in parts completely well done, to the point where our waiter comped us £50 off a £80 cut of meat. Would have been a two star if not for him and his knowledge on wine pairings and understanding. Needs more staff as guests were waiting a while for food to come out. Very disappointed, underwhelming and can't recommend.
L. I.
This place is absolutely amazing. Our waitress Jo was a dream and the food was delicious. The drinks are excellent and the ambiance is perfect. It's on the quite pricier side, but well worth it.
K. M.
The steak was to die for
Good service all round
And a nice little sweet treat to finish
J. A.
This place is amazing went for a surprise birthday treat with my daughter. When I got there my family and friends were also there to surprise me. The staff were fantastic very friendly and accommodating. The cocktails were made to perfection and the food food was amazing. Recommend this restaurant will definitely be going back.
J. D.
Is there a 6 star button? Menu was great. Had bread, crab, ravioli, two fillet steaks, Prosecco and Malbec.
Service was impeccable, that of Michelin star restaurants. Personal but not interrupting + could have a good conversation with waiters.
Starters were insane, fillet was easily the best steak we’ve ever had. Was my siblings birthday and was given a free desert which she was so grateful for.
Wine and wine service was impeccable. On the higher side of price wise but worth the money twice over.
L. E.
Very small and crowded dining area but the food was absolutely stunning! Very pricey for what you get though. Around 25-30 pounds for a steak by itself with no sides which you have to pay extra for.
L.
Lovely aesthetic, friendly staff, absolutely amazing food!! Pure quality the whole way through ❤️ We will be back soon xx
c. g.
This is without a doubt the best steak I have ever eaten!!!! The whole experience at this restaurant is 5 Star, The food, The friendly and helpful staff and the great choice of drinks! I will definitely be planning a trip back again very soon! I highly recommend this restaurant if your in Brighton.
D. P.
Beautiful piece of meat, really melted in the mouth.
And great service too.9

Currently on an unofficial Sunday Roast tour of England, and The Coal Shed has knocked everyone out of the park! Words do not do this justice!
J. C.
Delicious food (sirloin and fillet steaks), friendly service and a nice ambiance. Not cheap but excellent quality
J. J.
I went to this beautiful restaurant this evening and received incredible food and the best waiter. Mark was amazing throughout our whole evening and really made our experience. Thank you so much Mark, you are a credit to the restaurant!

My first dining out experience for over a year and it will be hard to beat anywhere else. This is my kind of restaurant. Intimate without being cramped, a menu with great options without being overwhelming, friendly waiting staff who were attentive without hovering and, of course, superb food. I'm not a foodie, so I appreciated the lack of poetic descriptions and pretentious ingredients. Our party of 6 wallowed in the quality of each dish, slowly working our way through most of the menu, constantly eulogising with our mouths full. Compliments to the chefs, thanks to Team Coal Shed and congratulations to the owners for getting it right when so many places don't.
X. S.
Love this place. Fantastic steaks and fabulous service. One of my favourites in Brighton. Love it!
M. L.
Decided to check out The Salt Room last minute and so glad I did.
Wonderfull food, cooked superbly. The Crispy Garlic Potatoes are genius.
Just as importantly, the service was impeccable and thank you to the staff for making it a memorable visit. I will be back.
w.
Great food and relaxed atmosphere. Quite expensive as have paid around £5 cheaper for a Fillet and it comes with sides and sauce. Would be nice not to pay for everything as little add ons. Make the steaks £2 more but come with sauce and side. Could do with a larger selection of cocktails and adding available softdrinks to the menu as I couldn't find them e.g. diet coke but saw some people drinking them.
P. W.
First meal out in a very long time and first time a t the Coal Shed. What an amazing meal. We had the sharing short rib which came with 3 sides, we chose the chips, onion rings and the creamed spinach and savoy, we struggled through the meal not quite managing all the chips. We did manage to squash a chocolate delice in which was most probably the best dessert I'd ever had. Service was friendly and meal was unhurried. Would certainly return.
M. C.
Incredible steak, lovely wine selection and exceptional service! Our go to from first date to our anniversary a few years on!

Great value lunch menu but add a couple of things for the table as they are great.
E. H.
Huge portions and reasonable food. Went on a Sunday and the service seemed a bit iffy!
C. H.
Lovely food. Attentive staff. Sides area extra, but the steak was lovely.
i. t.
Excellent, beats Hawksmoor hands down, excellent starters 👌
C. B.
The service and food was absolutely fantastic. The woman who served me (girl with glasses sorry forgot to ask for names) and the manager were both absolutely fab! But above all, the food was fantastic and I will definitely be back!
K. M.
If I could give 10 stars I would. I ordered monk fish and the maple carrots and it was delicious
P. S.
Excellent steak and negronis. Great service. Lovely space. Have been a few times.
R. C.
Lovely food, nice location.... Am trying London venue in a couple of weeks
E. N.
Great food, great location, wait staff was the best.
R. B.
Our waitress was amazing, a real asset. We’ve been visiting coal shed for years and it never disappoints. Thank you as always
T. M.
This was an excellent dining experience with amazing food. The staff were excellent and helpful and the kitchen even made us a little treat for it being our anniversary which was a perfect end to the night.
M. O.
Brilliant experience and great service! Fillet steak is the way to go.
N. F.
This is a lovely restaurant for meat eaters. They serve excellent steaks that are cooled to perfection. The overall service and the quality of the food is just right. My ribeye steak was spot on as were the dripping cooked fries. A little pricey but worth it.
T. H.
Exceptional quality of food, with very good service. Rib eye was very good.
G. D.
best steak restaurant in Brighton : food service , everything amazing. we were very pleased with everything. keep on the good work and thank you. Gabriel and Aliki
J. M.
Went there for dinner during a stay in Brighton. Location is not the best and we requested and outside table upon booking and turns out there is no outside area, which is fine but would've preferred to be told this from the start. The food was amazing, great selection of wines and the staff are very attentive and service is great. Not too fast to enjoy a meal out but not too slow that you end up waiting around.... overall they're definitely worth a visit if you enjoy good meat.
D. H.
Lovely restaurant, delicious food and great service 100%
R. P.
Great service, my steak was v average.
S. J. (.
Incredible food, great atmosphere and wonderful staff. Having visited many times, last week I was having dinner with a friend when she suddenly fainted. The response and caring service from the staff - Simona and Pat - was incredible.
T. H.
Food was very tasty, but not amazing. It's nicely presented but the portions are small. My opinion is it was overpriced e.g. starter of 3 small Dorito sized crisp tortillas /tacos with a teaspoon of fishy topping for £9 !!!! Waitress was friendly polite and helpful but I didn’t like the auto add 12.5% service charge to bill. We were a table of just 3 diners, not 10, so this was rather presumptuous. I decide on the size of the tip!! It was a quiet pleasant setting but it felt soulless; no buzz. We had a nice evening but it is overrated won’t rush back
C. J.
Steak was cooked to perfection! All the sides we had: tiger prawns, beef fries, bone marrow mash and lemon chilli broccoli we're all lovely too. Decent selection of wines and soft drinks. Highly recommend the lemon frozen yogurt dessert!! Service was impeccable especially on such a busy evening due to the eat out to help out scheme.
F.
Really cosy atmosphere. Service was great. Food was very good! Only criticism, the Tiramisu, was banana flavored, which was a personal issue! Overall loved it!
W. H.
What a fabulous lunch!
Fantastic starters of marinaded salmon and a smoked haddock scotch egg. Both were extremely good.
We then had had the Sunday shared sirloin, which was perfect in every way. Great meat, cooked rare on the bone, with a brilliant selection of vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and proper horseradish. Wine was great too.
A great team and service was outstanding.
I cannot recommend it highly enough.
G. M. (.
Bloody amazing food, wonderful staff and a really lovely atmosphere. Will be venturing back when I can.
K. D.
The food was very nice and the steaks were cooked well. The only issue is that its expensive for what you get e.g. 8 pound for 1 bit of pork belly. We were disappointed that we booked our table for 5:45 expecting to go for the sunday roast, but when we sat down the waitress said it only goes on until 5. The website says its from 12, no finish time was stated...
B. V.
Absolutely gorgeous food and wonderful staff. Went for the first time this evening and had an amazing experience. Oysters were fresh and tasty, the steaks were huge and cooked to perfection! The mash was the best mash I’ve ever had in my life! I also had the pear drop cocktail which was so tasty and presented beautifully.
The staff were so warm and friendly, really attentive and seemed to all get along with each other really well and never saw them not smiling!
A new firm favourite of Brighton!
G. P.
Really great food, a little pricey but you get what you pay for. Service was excellent. Definitely recommend and will be going again.
G. M.
Best steak I've had in years. Service was exceptional.
A.
Really delicious sunday roast from this restaurant. Good size portions. Everything is cooked beautifully. Staff are excellent and since we are not locals we only come down a few times a year yet a long serving waitress there always remember my family and makes us feel extremely welcome. Staff like these are hard to come by!! We always come back and we always tip well because of this. Keep it up coal shed! Recommend!
K. D.
Had an amazing meal at the coal shed last night! The food was so tasty... we had the chateaux brienne with a side of tiger prawns. Special thanks to our waiter David, very attentive, gave us lots of advice & recommendations on wine & deserts! Restaurant itself is very cosy & welcoming, no better place to spend a relaxed evening with great company. We’ll definitely be back 💕
C. L.
One of the better places for steak. Chateaubriand is the way to go. Don't really understand the other reviewers comments regarding the service charge. Staff super friendly and nice.
m. b.
Cute restaurant in Brighton, reasonably priced. Friendly waiting staff, amazing desserts.
M. S.
One of our family's favourite restaurants in Brighton. The food is outstanding every time and they have a lovely selection of wines. The staff are always friendly and so welcoming when we bring our children.
A. K.
Steak done well, with all the additions you could want (I'd recommend the additional tiger prawns and sides of mac and cheese and spinach). The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the best way to enjoy each cut available.
The atmosphere is lovely - we were sat by the window which felt private but inclusive in the overall vibe of the place.
A. C.
Wonderful Sunday roast sharing plate. Yorkshire puddings were delicious and the steak on the bone is cooked to order. Not the cheapest place but lovely atmosphere and ambiance. Friendly staff and fast service. Very nice.
H. S. B.
Sunday lunch with the family, we had the shared roast which was delicious. The way the meat was served we were not sure there would be enough however as the meat was so deliciously tender and filling that it was more than enough. The veggies were Devine especially the creamy leeks were my personal favourite. Great meal, not your cheapest roast however the quality and service make it very much worth it.
M. B.
My partner and I were seated without a reservation on a relatively busy evening for which we were very grateful.
When I inquired after a particular wine I was offered a taste beforehand.
The quality of the food was exceptional. The Aberdeen sourced fillet was one of the finest steaks I've ever eaten, perfectly cooked (medium). My partner's lamb was also lovely.
If you're after a quality steak in Brighton I doubt you could do better than Coal Shed.
P. L.
Really lovely place to eat and enjoy time with loved ones
S. W.
We read a few reviews and they were mixed but generally very good, so we thought we would give this a go. When you see the street you might give it a second thought but don't. Inside the restaurant there was a lovely feel and even though it was full, we didn't feel our personal space was invaded. The staff were friendly & attentive & the food was excellent, well worth the price. The drinks menu is extensive and dessert was a lovely way to finish the evening off. One word of warning....make sure you book! You won't be disappointed in our opinion!
S. F.
The food was lovely and the staff were amazing.
X. H.
Our starters of Burrata and Haddock Scotch Egg were both absolutely beautiful, and my main of wood-fired spring chicken was one of the tastiest things I've ever experienced!! The decor was fab, bathrooms clean, the only thing that let it down a little was the service. The service was actually very efficient, very friendly at all. A great team and the service was outstanding. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
S. C.
Nice cosy place with good atmosphere. Burger was absolutely huge and pretty amazing to be fair. Chateaubriand was ordered medium but was pretty rare in places. Beef dripping chips were not as good as expected (needed more salt) and wilted spinach just tasted of butter. Desserts were all good however and staff were attentive and friendly, especially the lady from Cornwall
N. M.
The Coal Shed is an excellent pub. It's got a great feel, good drink and exceptional food. It's famed for its steaks and it holds up to its reputation! It's not cheap to eat here but it's well worth it for the quality of the food. Had an incredible Rib-eye steak cooked to perfection, the best cream spinach I've tasted in Brighton, tasty thick hand cut chips and gorgeous peppercorn sauce and it was over £30 for that one meal but it was indeed exceptional. Add drinks and it can get expensive. Highly recommended but not a cheap night out.
They also add a service charge to the bill although again the service was great and the food awesome
A. L.
Fantastic steaks (really, really good) and friendly staff. The fillet steak was tender and juicy, the ribeye smokey and tasty. An excellent meal. Quite expensive at over £300 for 4 of us (3 course plus wine) hence a 4 not a 5 star.
e. s.
Wasn't expecting much, just looking for somewhere half decent for lunch, was very surprised! The food was as good as any high end London restaurant. Highly recommend the fish tacos and Filet steak. Will definitely be coming back.
c. G.
Good Steak lovely pork Belly Starter and a great cheese Board
N. R.
Great resturant in Brighton. Had a sharing steak which was delicious I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent steak in Brighton. The restaurant has a intimate atmosphere which allows people to enjoy each others company aswell as the food.
R. T.
Excellent little steakhouse, with tasty well cooked high quality steaks. Well staffed so service is excellent as well. The menu is a bit terse for my liking and the staff are willing to explain but I'm sure there's a lot of delecious items I'm not choosing because of it.
L. T.
One of the loveliest restaurants in Brighton. We live in London but had heard good things, and my sister wanted to have her birthday in Brighton. The place is Classy, understated, but every plate is carefully thought out, meticulously prepared, and is a perfect combination of flavours. The staff are incredibly friendly, and very well informed. We enjoyed every dish, and had a lot of fun trying each other’s. And at the end of the meal, they surprised my sister with a little birthday plate! They put on it what I can only describe as 3 concentrated ‘desserts’, 2 miniature, flavour packed chocolate brownies, and what looked like a huge, soft, raspberry fruit pastel... But the flavour of the two combined was OUT OF THIS WORLD. My whole family couldn’t get enough of it, and it was the perfect end to a lovely meal. Will definitely be coming back the next time we’re in Brighton.
D. B.
Pricing to food amount and quality ratio seemed to suggest they believe they're more posh than the reality.
Service was just friendly enough, till they asked us to leave for not actually eating there. Mind you, 2 tables next to us filled with people just drinking and us just had finished our small shared plate, this seemed unreasonable.
Wouldn't recommend, there are better options in the lanes.
A. W.
Fantastic steaks chips needed about a minute more cooking but were still good the peppercorn sauce was just sublime thank you
E.
Service fun, timely and impeccable. Casual, rustic atmosphere with great quality wine and food. Starters were heavenly good. Steak was excellent. Dessert wine, coffee Martini cocktail and sorbet ice cream a perfect end to a fantastic cozy casual comfortable yet high quality experience. The friendliness of all was amazing. Will return back for sure!
R.
Food was inconsistent in quality of taste and presentation. The burrato was not fresh and the stake jus was quite thin, not a great deal of flavour. Service could have been better. Waiter noticed I wanted to know what selection of whiskey they had but did not offer any information or find out so ended up getting whatever was easiest for them. We have been a few times to this restaurant but unlikely to pick this over other restaurants, nothing particularly stood out for us on this occasion.
H. W.
Amazing service, chateaubriand incredible, malbec fantastic. Can't fault!
G. J.
It is truest refreshing to have waiting staff who genuinely care about their work and their customers. Excellent knowledge of wine, spirits and the menu. We never had to fill our own glasses of wine as there was always someone topping us up when needed.
Food was exquisite except for one of our party who quietly noted that his steak was a little tough. To our surprise the staff had heard this minor observation and given a generous deduction to our bill.
Couldn’t recommend this restaurant more and I will definitely be back.
(The pork croquet starters are perticulary good)
e. 1.
Great meal, brilliant staff and great wine!
L. H.
Amazing steak and nice drinks! It's pricey but you get what you pay for here in my opinion. Highly recommend
T. H.
Atmosphere was gorgeous very classy and the waiter staff are so kind and helpful. My partner and I ordered steak which was nice but have had better. It was my birthday so I got surprised with a free truffle in the shape of coal which I thought was very cute and fitting.
J. S.
Gorgeous food, lovely drinks and such a friendly welcome and service. Off the main road, down a side road but trust me, worth finding. Thank you for a fab meal.
L. J.
Hands down, the best steakhouse I've been to in the UK. Great atmosphere to boot. Highly recommend
D. G.
We went to the Coal Shed after reading all the positive reviews. Unfortunately it was far from ideal. We booked the private room for our party which they seemed to have forgotten about. This was sorted swiftly after I explained. The starters were nice enough. The main problem was their luck of methodology in serving, they served everyone an empty plate with a steak, minutes after they served everyone chips, minutes after regular sauces, minutes after salad in bowls, minutes after the blue cheese sauce that comes with it... As you can imagine by this point we had already eaten most of our food! They should have had three waiters attending a table of 12 not one person doing so many trips, or they could have brought it in a different order where the steaks are served last and still hot. For the price of the meal and the 10% "obligatory" service you expect a much better experience.
The steaks were ok but no great, I ordered mine medium rare but it came cooked medium...
J. W.
Great service, great food, great drinks! I had the sherry Mary which I highly recommend as a drink and a delicious pork starter as well as a hamburger with kimchi. While the burger was good, I don't think I'd order it again due to there being a few more interesting items on the menu. If you don't like meat though this place isn't for you!
W. C.
Booked a table for 7 as a birthday treat, we were told a few items on the menu weren't available upon arrival, they only had sufficient crab for 2 starters. There was SO little crab on both starters, they were definitely not worth the money. 2 fillets were cold, 2 of the peppercorn sauces had split and the bernaise sauces were cold, not room temperature as the waitress said. I was more disappointed that when I raised the issue of the cold sauce to the waitress, she said she could return them to the chef, but it would come back exactly the same as it is now, room temperature, she made no attempt to resolve the issue. My only positive comment was about the waiter who has was very helpful, great customer service, he ordered a few cocktails by way of apology - we won't be going back.
C.
The Coal Shed definitely lives up to it's name. I went for the oysters, sea bream ceviche and short rib croquettes to start and a rare fillet for the main, coupled with a fantastic house red. The food was absolutely superb and the steak was cooked to perfection. The staff were keen and super friendly. The interior is gorgeous as well, a very modern/industrial look that flowed throughout the building. I will definitely stop in when I am next in Brighton. Utterly faultless.
T. A.
Wow what an amazing find during our visit to Brighton. Very tasty and delicious food. Highly recommended
A. B.
Lovely restaurant is a real treat to go here. The quality of the food and drink is high, so are the prices. The fig burrata, cod, turbot, steak, chips and bread were all superb. The menu isn't child friendly so eating as a family is tricky as one child prefers plain food and has braces so ate bread and chips. The restaurant was chilly (and loos!) on a Saturday at 3 - 4pm (the fact we all now have colds may be unrelated but ...). The tables were too close together for comfort (and the prices). There were only 3 occupied tables at this time and we were all placed together. One couple ate nearby quietly. But a table of 4 men, liberally used the F-word throughout, went outside to smoke coming back reeking of tobacco, all with absolutely no consideration at all for the people around them. We had to raise our conversation to block them out. Still love this place though.
J. M.
Good atmosphere and good food.clean tidy and pleasant staff, well worth a visit.you have to book in.
J. K.
Beautiful steak!
Was recommended by my friend, not regretting at all checking this place out. Absolutely beautiful steak! One of the most delicious ones I ever had. Starters as truffles soup or trout were fabulous as well. The only thing wasn't impress by was a desert. Was expecting a bit more after such delicious starter and main.
Advice: take a set lunch menu for £15 (two meals) or £17.50 (three meals). But do not waste time on a desert, there re more tasty things to try there.
Btw, service is also excellent. Definitely will come back there, once I'm in Brighton again.
C. C.
Great food, great service, great wine, great vibe! Love it. Also, best doughnut ever.
M. B.
Great service and very top notch food; an absolute must for tasteful food, wines and desserts
P. K.
Had the rib of beef to share, absolutely lovely, one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. Delicious chips too. If you want a quality steak in Brighton, go there.
Very knowledgeable and friendly waitress helped with choosing the right cut of the beef given my cooking preference.
T. S.
Fantastic food we had the Sunday roast and it was amazing, I have to say one of the best meals I have ever had my. Really lovely staff and a great atmosphere. Would thoroughly recommend. Very good value for money 5 star
S. A.
Literally the best meal I've ever had, I was a chef for 5 years and I'd like to say I know my food. Had the best, most friendly, and funny waiter who couldn't do more to be helpful. The wine is rather expensive for what you get but I'd happily pay every penny over and over for the food. Had the short rib starter. INSANE. the salt Marsh rump for main. INSANE. and the side of burnt mash was the best mash I've ever tasted. Don't expect a cheap meal but expect your taste buds to be blown away. Definitely going to come back to Brighton purely for a meal here.
A. B.
We like the Coal shed and have had marvellous food here before. Today was slightly disappointing with a very fatty starter of ribs and a bouillabaisse that had a wonderful base but lacked a variety of fishy morsels just served with a massive lump of salmon. Good service as usual and an excellent pea and ham soup and fabulous donut pudding. We would definitely go again but would hope for a more consistent standard across the courses.
D. W.
Nice place. Very friendly staff who were very accommodating with our 2 year old. Free food for children under 7 with adult mains which is a great feature. Food was hit and miss though. The oysters baked in hollandaise were exceptional but our burrata and tomato starter was cold and not room temperature. The steak was cooked perfectly to my medium rare but was not seasoned. It appeared to be cooked over a very hot grill resulting in lines of carbon but without butter or any basting. This resulted in a rather unpleasant under seasoned bitter steak.
R. K.
Sister restaurant to the trendy and packed Salt Room. The Salt room does fish, the coal shed meat. The ambience here is more casual and rustic, the prices high, service impeccable. The atmosphere is good but not sophisticated. Kind of like pub dining with gourmet restaurant prices. The steaks were a little above average and the whole meal was about pub food standard. The steak I wanted was off the menu that night. Wine prices are sky high.
p. r.
Please do not ask for a well done steak. It will be black and dry. I know most people don't have steak well done but it is not difficult to do with a bit of care. I had two, both were the worst fillet steak I have ever had. Overall most people enjoyed their food but quite expensive for what it is.
C. M.
I have had the pleasure of earing at the Coal Shed twice.
Mains are ultimately minimal in their presentation, but given that they come with a retinue of sides - as I would expect of such a quality restaurant - everything is of the highest standard. The decor is sublime, the service fantastically experienced and friendly.
Not trying to show my bias, but this restaurant would be the equal of anything in London. Such a great meal, well done.
J. A.
We had the share Sunday Lunch today. It was amazing! The roast sirloin of beef was the best I have ever tasted. Just the right amount for 2 hungry adults. Desert was lovely too. Can't wait to go back for steak now.
A. T.
It was our wedding anniversary this week and with lockdown, we obviously couldn't celebrate with a meal out - but then we received an email advising of their home delivery service and my goodness, what a treat! The meal (we chose the beef) was delivered with easy and precise instructions on how to complete the cooking in just 30mins, and the food was sublime. The meat fell off the bone, the assortment of vegetables, picked onion (I know, sounds wrong right? But it was fab!) and amazing chimichurri sauce was wonderful - we ate our meal slowly as we didn't want it to end! The chocolate dessert was outstanding and turned a strange anniversary into a lovely one - if you are hankering for a special meal for a birthday or indeed just want a lockdown treat, the Coal Shed home delivery is hard to beat.
s. w.
Second visit first was a lunch and I really liked it bit on pricey side this last one eve took my hubby and he was not impressed. Staff were up and down most were really nice one seemed disinterested really. My steak was lovely hubby had mostly grissle he is not one to complain so just would not go again.
J. L.
Truley a place for steak lovers. It was definitely a treat meal at 70 pound a head but was worth every penny. The 900g porter house was the best I've had and sides were all as good as the steak. The highlight being the bone marrow mash. Service was great with our waiter being very atentative and friendly.
K. L.
Great service from staff. No reservation and still seated quickly and effectively. Food was fabulous for meat eaters or fish lovers. Wine list with a wide variety and a really good milk stout beer
A. H.
Amazing food and service but with a price tag
K. L. M.
Very nice restaurant decor and staff. I was with a group of 8 and 3 of us were vegetarian, I am vegan and there was only one main course we could have. I wanted to add fries but they were dipped in beef fat so we're a no go either. I know you specialise in steak and fish but would be good to consider those who don't want to eat animals or just want a break from eating them so that all parties are catered for.
r. h.
Great dinner, great steak and dessert
m. d.
Great short rib burger. Proper fat chips and the best cookie dessert ever. Good house wine and coffee. You can spend a fortune in here or keep it modest but if you do spend a fortune-its quality...
S. S.
Brilliant...nice staff very friendly and helpful service was excellent lovely dining experience..food excellent
B. A.
Excellent food and wonderful staff and the best tiramasu I have tasted I definitely recommend this restaurant if you want any type of red meat course
s. a.
I had the fillet steak which was cooked to perfection. The cops and bread both came with very nice butters of different varieties. My wife choose the cheaper lunch menu but the quality was still very high. Very impressed.
M. S.
Great service and food. The waitress seemed a bit too eager to up sell, which didn't feel good.
It's definitely ok to up-sell but after ordering two side dishes and leaving most of it uneaten we felt she had exaggerated the smallness of them. Not complaining because they were large but because we ended up ordering food we didn't really need. Also, the spinach was tad undercooked for our taste.
c. l.
As always lovely knowledgeable staff and food to die for. Get the chateaubriand. Do it.
J. R.
Great atmosphere, lovely staff. Food is outstanding, with a non -meat option , but predominantly steak. The desserts are also worth a try. If you enjoy an different food experience you won't be disappointed.
J. W.
Had a wonderful experience here yesterday evening with a friend of mine. We came across the coal shed because we didnt want to go to a regular chain restaurant and wanted something special in Brighton. The food did not disappoint and the waiters couldn't do more for us, I come down to brighton from London very regularly and will be visiting again very soon! The steak was cooked to perfection and the wine selection was exquisite.
A. S.
Pretty much everything about the Coal Shed left me feeling 'meh', but that's partly because I had such high expectations. The restaurant bills itself as Brighton's meat specialist, but I was underwhelmed by my meal.
We ordered the steak burger and chips, which was way overcooked. Baffling, considering we both specified medium-rare. The meat itself was clearly very good quality though - just a shame it was so dry and chewy. The beef dripping chips were good though.
Dessert was also a bit dull. We went for the chocolate toffee sundae with salted pecan ice cream, but it tasted of vanilla ice cream with a splash of chocolate sauce. Fine, but not good enough if you're charging £6.50. Add to the mix poorly made cocktails (I didn't finish mine - actually unheard of), and we left the Coal Shed feeling like we'd have been better off getting a takeaway. Maybe this is the sort of place where you should stick to the steak, but I won't be back to find out.
D. J.
Took my gorgeous date here and the waiter who served us provided us with the best customer service! The food and wine was amazing and we were on a budget. Can't wait to go back and try some of the more premium goods!
K. H.
The Coal Shed really is a lovely steak house. Great food top quality, amazing service and the best choice of wines. I have been here 5 times now and the consistency and high standards remain the same. Highly recommended.
A. A.
Fantastic Steakhouse for a date night or celebration. Hubby and I both had a filet and they were both cooked wonderfully. The options of side dishes all sounded delicious and staff was very friendly. Location is a bit odd but that's Brighton.
S. M.
Had a VERY enjoyable meal here last night. Our server, Amber, was pleasant and cheerful and knew her menu well enough to recommend and guide us with confidence. The food was superb! Best steak I have had in the last 15-odd years. All the sides were excellent but the chips deserve special mention as they were out of this world. The Coal Shed is not a cheap place to eat but if price is more of an issue than quality, then go to Frankie & Bennys. If, however, you don't mind paying more for superior quality, then The Coal Shed is more than worth it. We will be back for more...
B. G.
Best steak I've ever had. I prefer the sister restaurant, The Salt Room, but this place is wicked. Our waiter was really happy and clearly loved his job and the food was super tasty. Great wine too
C. D.
I went to the Coal Shed tonight for the first time and had a 900g Porterhouse split between me and a friend with onion rings, chips, mushrooms and peas and it was incredible! I have been to every steak house in Brighton but this one for me was the winner. The service was great despite it being busy as I looked round someone was there ready to help, I would really struggle to find anything negative to say about it, might have liked a bit more elbow room we had a table in the middle of the floor is about the best I can do. I will be going back again very soon for sure, even now I can still taste that coal fired perfectly cooked meat.
C.
The staff are just lovely, such a wonderful vibe and the food - beautiful! Thank you for making our evening so special.
D. W.
Had a midweek lunch here from the Express menu. 3 courses of incredibly tasty, fresh and well presented food consisting of Seaweed cured salmon, pickles, pineapple, dill to start - Grilled fillet tail with dripping chips + peppercorn sauce for the main and a Berry yoghurt for pudding. Bargain for £20. Incredibly friendly and professional service. Will happily return when I'm next in Brighton.
S. B.
The meal was excellent as was the service BUT be careful if you are dining upstairs the staircase is dangerous, the treads are not full size & it wasn't lut that well as Ifound out when Ifell down the last 4 steps onto my back. However I would recommend this restaurant
R. S.
Absolutely lovely staff and beautiful food. Were great with dietary requirements too. Will be back!
S. D.
Just returned from celebrating a birthday with family. The food was superb and the staff were so welcoming and friendly we couldn’t ask for anything more. Keep on what your doing you have a truly great restaurant and we will definitely be back. Thank you so much 🙌
d. s.
If your not sure if you want a steak or a roast Sunday dinner, there is only one option and that is to visit the coal shed.
You can have their Sunday roast which combines the best of both, a steak cooked the way you like it and large enough for two with all the Sunday dinner trimming.
Really is worth a visit
A. H.
OK - to be fair start with the good. Decor is pleasant, the staff are attentive. The food was of a high standard and well presented.
But.....
The bad - table booking policy - we were effectively kick off our table before desserts, because the table was double booked for the evening. Pudding menu arrived, within 5 minutes we were asked what we wanted and we weren't ready. The waiter then told us he needed the table in 10 minutes - and we could eat at the bar. At this point we left.I understand the economics, but the restaurant missed two opportunities to inform us that the table was required later – one when the booking was made and then again when we arrived. Poor customer management. On this occasion the restaurant team has missed the difference between a cover and customer, having gained one and lost the other. We won't be going back – Brighton is full of good food, and unfortunately the lingering memory is a sour taste in the mouth not the steaks.
K. N.
Hands down the best steak we have ever had. Well worth the price and such a nice atmosphere and good service. Cannot recommend highly enough.
B. P.
Servers had UNBELIEVABLE customer service. They were predective and suggestive instead of reactive and apathetic.
Food was okay. Oyster starter was "off the frame"! Get two of them.
Steak tartar was underwhelming, couldn't taste the meat, but, at least, the price wasn't horrible. Ribeye was fantastic, exactly what a simple, proper steak should be, but my friend's Filet was well undercooked, twice! It was sent back to be reheated and was still cold in the middle the second time it came out. I think they started the steaks at the same time and due to the Ribeye being less thin than the Filet is why it came out cold. And it was COLD not Luke warm or just a little less warm than the outside, cold to the touch.
Beef dripping chips 🍟 didn't impress either. Had the dripping chips at Flat Iron (see my review of Flat Iron, Shoreditch) and wanted to experience that type of taste sensation again, but, again, disappointed 😥.
If it weren't for the superb service and above average wine service I would've rated it lower.
D. J. (.
I'd heard the Coal Shed did the best steak in Brighton and I have to say that may be true. I went for the fillet and had a side of mash with burnt ends. Which was truly fantastic. And you really need to try the short rib croquettes to start.
m. a.
Food good, service OK prices way over the top.
Had a nice steak well cooked as requested; chips were not hot but replaced. spinach with garlic good.
Wine was extortionate. a £6.00 bottle from Sainsburys would have been better. This was thin, little taste and for £27.00 one expects better. desert was nicely presented but for 6 small items surrounded by a sea of white plate for £8.00!!
Overall a nice cosy restaurant but far too pretentious and pricey. the whole meal cost £73.00 each and was not worth it.
I shall not visit again. There are better value restaurants with the same food in Brighton and that half price.
Sorry. Nice idea but much too expensive for what it is. London prices in Brighton.
V. L.
Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff excellent service! Starters exquisite, steak of good quality and cooked as expected! My coffee martini cocktail at the end upgraded my total experience! Highly recommend it!
T. S.
Long wait, sub par quality cuts. Slick fit out, nice buzzy atmosphere.
And a 12.5% “discretionary charge” about which the diner has no discretion. I don’t mind tipping generously but for 12.5% my expectations are:
- staff with sufficient product knowledge training to suggest products when asked
- sub 40 min wait times for meals
- a £28 eye fillet that’s 200g of lean meat, not 1/3 gristle and fat
- mustard that’s delivered without being dropped from 2” above the table
Room to improve
R. F.
Had the best steak of my whole life here last week. Good quality booze and reasonably priced for the high quality meat. Nice deserts too and a great set menu.
G. Q.
Absolutely excellent. Fantastic staff and delicious food. Perfect for a date night. Will definitely be visiting again
S. x.
Cute restaurant
Delicious food and friendly staff 😊
J. B.
Came here in May for the evening part of my (relaxed/quiet) stag do. Great service even when extremely busy. The steaks are good, but not really worth the price to be honest. Would rather go to Sophie's.
M. P.
Lovely place , the staff was so friendly and helpful and the steak was one of the best I've ever had! Even tho we didn't have a reservation they got us a table ( on a Saturday, that's awesome). Would definitely recommend it, but make sure you book ahead.
J. K.
Was taken here for my birthday and expected some really great things. I left thinking that they might have served me the best meal I've ever had. Great service, great wine and amazing food. Thank you!
C. P.
Excellent service.
Food good.
Overpriced.
Great wine.
Great atmosphere.
E. s.
Absolutely loved the food here, strangely the real star was the short rib beef starter but the rest of it was really good too. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing, the only down side is the prices as it was quite pricey therefore the reserve of a special meal only which is a bit of a shame
C. A.
We visited the Coal Shed with a little trepidation having spent the day in Brighton and seen a woeful attitude to social distancing. However the Coal Shed made a real effort to make guests feel welcomed and safe in these times. Well done you struck a very good balance.
j. h.
Went there for a Sunday roast brunch with no reservation. The restaurant is really nice, well decorated and service is really good. The food quality and quantity was amazing. Definitely recommend it if you are at Brighton for the day and looking for a good place to eat.
P. T.
Excellent service, wonderful steaks and a very enjoyable lunch
S. H.
Really good bit of steak and friendly helpful service.
T. R.
Staff very friendly and efficient. Initially disappointed as the Menu card has food finger prints over it plus the Pumkin Ravioli hadn't been drained properly and tasted mainly of water plus the Venison Carpaccio was bland. Steaks were perfect but the side dishes were tiny portions, desserts and wine were very nice.. Would I go back? Probably not.
A. T.
Best Sirloin steak I've ever had! Staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you, food arrived quickly and tasted delicious, worth every penny!
A. C.
Excellent Sunday Lunch, delicious roast beef but the option of their usual excellent steak for others in our group. Starters were amazing, especially the octopus. Perfect service.
J. H.
Visited today for a treat and had a really delicious meal. Steak cooked perfectly and had a lovely flavour, and the mac 'n cheese side was to die for.
A. J.
Positioning itself as Brighton's answer to London's Hawksmoor - right down to the highly derivative menu and decor - I had high hopes for The Coal Shed. Unfortunately, the food didn't match the premium prices.
Decor and atmosphere was good, apart from the loud table of 'blokes' with a capital B behind us - although this can hardly be the fault of the restaurant. Service was in the main good.
But the food and drink? We started with cocktails: my vodka martin was way heavy on the vodka, losing all of the subtlety that a good martini should express. My dining partner failed to finish her uninspired gin concoction (I selflessly helped her, for I am nothing if not a gentleman).
We both ordered the burgers, medium rare. The came well done, ruining what could have been a decent piece of meat. We had to ask for condiments - at a steak/burger joint these should be provided without prompting. Chips were good, but didn't mitigate the burger problem.
Desert was a highly generic sundae, totally undeserving of it's £6.50 asking price. Ultimately, the food was of basic pub standard, so the inflated prices really aren't justified. Perhaps we got unlikely - other reviews praise the food, and the steak I spotted at the next table looked juicy and suitably pink for my liking.
I'm really not sure I'd bother giving them a second chance - a 'specialist in grilled meat' can't afford to over-cook their burgers and gain clemency. A shame.
J. B.
If you like steak, you need to eat here. Tucked away somewhat, in the streets of Brighton, but well worth a visit. I've come back for the Chateaubriand twice so far and will again!
P. C.
All the way from Manchester and got told this was a good place to go. Just like Hawksmoor in Manchester and just as pricey but very good food. Will we go back. Yes for sure. Great service by Claire and all the staff! Keep up the good work. Not enough places like u! Bit of a speak-easy!
T. M.
Very tasty food, but overrated for me.
One for a nice date night, but not for a special occasion.
T. B.
Our first visit to this restaurant...the food was all delicious...friendly staff ...will definitely be making a return visit .
Q. A.
Great food. Lovely steak and ambience. It was very busy when we walked in. We were lucky to get a table. I definitely recommend making a reservation. You won’t regret it.
c. c.
Expensive - but you pay for what you get - 😋 & really personal staff
K. R.
Lovely meal with a super nice host. Steak was absolutely perfect. Highly recommended
J. W.
The Specialty gins were out of this world, you need to try them. Food was excellent quality except for the steak, which was cooked really well but just wasn't a very good cut or beef for the price tbh. Sorry.
M. G.
The steak, the reason for going to this restaurant, was amazing. It's chargrilled on the edges and cooked perfectly inside.
The staff are also very lovely and will make you feel welcome.
The food was on the smallish side for the price but the quality was very high.
T. P.
Sorry but I think the Post-Pride Festivities must have deflated Brighton’s CoalShed today! Burgers came the size of my hand, I have the hand size of a six year old child! More gristle in them than chewing on piece of road kill. A Sirloin Steak being sent back once and nearly twice : my dear old Dad didn’t want to make a fuss as it was a family celebratory dinner...he ordered medium to well and got Blue! Which then came back as a rare to medium. Waiter didn’t even wait for us to put both our bum cheeks down on the chair before we were bombarded with questions on drinks. This could have something to do with the fact that I wanted the electric fan removed directly away (literally less than half a metre) from our backs when we sat down. Jesus H Christ! Please for the love of all that’s holy- with the prices you are charging people invest in decent aircon when required CoalShed Owners!!!😡
Oh dear Googlers my list goes on but why take my word for it. Please go along to this little backstreet housed steak restaurant in the middle of Brighton, pay ridiculous prices while chewing on overrated meat cuts in mildly enjoyable surroundings.
Bookings are in advance by weeks so I thought ‘Gosh this is going to be fab!!!’ And to think that I had to wait two mouthwatering-fantasising weeks to finally be disappointed as hell.
My review is my own experience, kudos to anyone else who had a good one.
Thank you Coalshed...been there, done that and won’t be going back.....
*******************************UPDATE
Having now contacted the manager and agreed on a refund, this place has gone up in stars. Thank you Naomi. You are truly the only redeeming person in your establishment.
Unfortunately, it was so pricey and so difficult to book in the first place, I still would not be able to put myself or loved ones through this again.
j. f.
Beautiful environment staff and Sunday lunch sharing plate. I am nice but I am FUSSY hot gravy and plates and wonderful Yorkshire pudding. An early mother's day lunch. Perfect 👌
r. r.
Nice interior and friendly staff but when we ordered the lunch special of a starter consisting of oxtail croquettes and then steak and chips we were told there were no oxtail corquettes. We had the steak and chips with no price reduction offered!
E.
Delicious sirloin steak
L. W.
The slightly limited menu is compensated for by the quality of the products. My only criticisms would be that the price is a little above local rates and they tend towards overcooking the meats. Good service however rounds off what is ultimately an enjoyable experience.
G. B.
Off the scale. Probably one of the best meals I have had. Steak incredible.
J. Q.
Expensive but worth it. There was quite a wait for the food and my oysters were disappointing. Everything else was perfect.
S. J.
Great restaurant with friendly, helpful staff. Make sure you book well in advance as it is popular. Had the Chateaubriand with a few side dishes; one of the best we’ve ever had.
T. K.
The food is great, delicious and well presented, and everything is top quality. The icing on the cake was the staff who were all friendly, warm, and made our anniversary visit wonderfully special. Thankyou all!
L. A.
Went for my mums birthday and had the express lunch menu, £20 for 3 courses. Food was lovely and it was good value for money. Staff were very friendly.
M. R.
😱 This was an amazing place. The best food, great service. Try the pork starter. It is so soft. Perfect. The location could be better. But once you're in you'll forget all about it.
s. l.
Went a few years back when in town and went again last night. Brilliant service and decor and of course steaks. Oh and great wine by the carafe. Will be back
M. “. T.
Book ahead for this modern steakhouse (with a token fish or two, it is Brighton after all), as you'll be lucky to get a table in the evening, especially at the weekend. Tucked out of the way on a side-street, you'll feel like you've found a bit of a local secret as The Coal Shed deserves more fanfare than most of the other in-your-face high-end restaurants that adorn the Laines. Prices are a little on the high end, but the food and service matches up. The steak burger is divine.
G. C.
Day trip to Brighton with my mates, we were looking for a stake house, reading the reviews on google maps, so we decided to choose this place.
The service was great but the food was perfect. I would strongly recommend this place if you end up in Brighton and you are looking forward to eating a steak.
J. F.
Nice selection of fish and steak dishes. Could not fault. Would recommend
J. B.
Amazing food. Their Sunday roasts won't disappoint. Bar has a great selection of guns and other drinks. I recommend the Bloody Mary's
g. s. b. f.
Amazing good and staff, highly recommended
M. S.
Great food, but a really super friendly team. Can’t stress that enough. Not enough places like this! Coming back soon.
J. I.
This was a fantastic find! Intimate and friendly staff, with tasty food. We had the lunchtime specials so a great price too. I'm the jumpsuit lady!
L. H. (.
😱 This was an amazing place. The best food, great service. Try the pork starter. It is so soft. Perfect. The location could be better. But once you're in you'll forget all about it.
r.
Lovely steak cooked perfectly. Had a very nice pork belly starter. Good service and nice ambience in the place. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.
S.
Been here before mixed feelings as some staff were friendly one was bit non descript with his non smily face. 2 sirloin steaks mine was great but husbands was very grissly.
S. G.
Great food, a bit pricey but worth it as everything we ordered was spot on! Really friendly staff who were attentive and it's a nice space to enjoy goes food and goid company!
a. t.
Fantastic steak, great service. Not too in your face, leave you to it but attentive enough to get what you want, when you want it.
If only I lived closer, I'd 100% be back in a shot.
N.
The best steak in Brighton (end of debate). The venue, food and wine is all superb. Of course, good steak doesn’t come cheap, so expect to dent your wallet.
J. M.
It's nice, pretty pricey, I wouldn't bother going if your a vegetarian however their veggie options aren't the best. The meats are really nice and service is great :)
n.
Always excellent, best steaks and fish in the City. Advisable to book even on a Sunday evening! Good wine list and really personable and happy waiting staff. Highly recommend.
J. Y.
The food goes beyond steak. I normally have a starter, and a steak from the board with sides. The starters are just a special as the steaks and sides.
The decor is timeless and fitting. With no out of place frills to disguise the
any short comings, which I am yet to find.
J. S.
Very expensive, went as it was recommended. Steak was good, staff were pleasant. Just astounded by the prices and the 12.5% service charge!
Y. L.
Friendly welcoming, good food, notably the meat, good wines, but also, a première for me as a Frenchman, good English cheeses!
I lost a bet to an English friend there, as he was betting I would love the quality cheeses : fully confirmed.
T. R.
Lovely Restaurant specialising in Steak, had the Fillet of Beef. Cooked to perfection. Nice ambience, relaxed atmosphere with efficient & friendly Service. Very Good...👏👏
R. G.
We went on BYO Monday; the thing that stands out in my memory is how absolutely fantastic the chips are; especially when dunked in the blue cheese sauce.
Fantastic place to eat!
The drinks menu is way to expensive for me so BYO own Monday is a great idea.
L. P.
This was a nice place that we stumbled upon. I would say that if you love steak this is the place for you. If you don't then don't go. Service was very good. Nice atmosphere
M. B.
This place is such a nice atmosphere for a dinner! Best steaks, Mac and cheese and oysters!
Amazing!
D. P.
And amazing place great food well worth a visit. Claire our server was specially friendly and helpful
D. H.
Phenomenal food, lovely staff, and they gave my partner a lovely surprise for his birthday! Looking for an excuse to come again as soon as possible 😃
J. B.
Wow. After I have been to 64 degrees, riddle and Finns, Terre a Terre, silo and Indian summer, I have to say this is the winner! Amazing food at Upper class dining prices which are still affordable and very worth the money. Friendly staff, great atmosphere.
G. L.
2nd time eating here since we moved to Brighton a few months ago. The meat is perfect and the specials are delicious. We will be back again! x
A. M.
Amazing food! I really hate seafood, but I tried oysters for the first time here, and they were absolutely great! The service was really good and really friendly staff. Will come back 100%!
C. F.
I love this place a lot. It has a very nice air. The cuisine is wonderful. the service is effective and the personel is polite. The cost is fair. very much recommend.
S. B.
Great food. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Steak was lovely, but definitely at the higher end of the price scale.
T. M.
Arrived 10 min before the lunchtime kitchen closed, staff was very friendly and helpful. The food came quickly and was absolutely delicious!! I can definitely recommend this place!
S. W.
Great Sunday sharing beef and all the trimmings. Good service and friendly staff. Recommend for special occasion as a little pricey.
U.
The food was amazing!! I had the lamb it melted in my mouth, truly Devine
B. w.
Absolutely amazing food here, give it ago if you can, such nice and friendly staff
S. B.
Very friendly staff who made the whole family welcome, good food for us and a nice piece of fish for the toddlers. We went there to celebrate a birthday and were pleased we had.
D. E.
Good steak and a good atmosphere
P. H.
Food was decent but extremely disappointing lack of veggie options. I understand it is predominantly a meaty place but there'll always be one or two veggies in a group and when we went they were made to feel pretty unwelcome.
B. B.
Good selection of food and wine. Can recommend the ribeye steak with jack cheese and onion rings. Coupled with a New Zealand pinot noir makes for a nice bite to eat. Sea salt and caramel truffle over the chocolate though anyday.
C. G.
Had are Christmas do meal here yesterday. Food was amazing and the staff were incredible, could do enought for us. One of Brighton's many gems.
S. K.
Amazing steaks, great daily cuts. 3 of us shared a 1Kg porterhouse - cooked with love and attention, delicious char. Nice sides, delicious sauces. A Brighton must!
Y. G.
Great sharing Sunday roast (£35 for two) in a classy but relaxed venue. Awesome monkfish. Perfectly balanced cocktails. Recommended
B.
Very nice meal here for our wedding anniversary. Attentive and friendly staff. Definitely down for a return visit.
s. M.
The steak was awesome but i don’t give 5 stars easley
S. A.
£125 for a shared steak you might think the chips would be included. They weren't.
It was great - but really beyond my price range.
A. H.
There was a service charge added that we weren't expecting. Steaks came with nothing so had to add everything to order
L. B.
Had an amazing meal here to celebrate my husband's birthday. Service was great and the food was delicious. I would absolutely recommend.
D. F.
Hello, we all enjoyed our meals and service at The Coal Shed Restaurant, Brighton and I was so pleased with my purchase of two wine glasses. Well done. David Fozard
D. E.
Pretty expensive but well worth it. Food and service excellent. Been to the London branch and that was great and this one is just as good. Recommended
M. H.
The food here has gotten a lot better over the last year (new chef?) - had a really nice meal when we went with the steaks cooked perfectly and delicious sides
C. S.
The Coal Shed is a cosy little place to eat and the kitchen has a good set of skills for minute steaks. A strong contender for the best burger I have had outside of London.
S. S.
The food is excellent as are the staff and service.
L. M.
Always so good! Every course was faultless
R. M.
Fantastic steak and wine selection, and great service.
B. F.
Very nice food with lovely staff
S. R.
Lovely cosy place. Locally sourced so it's yummy. The wine list is amazing. Not exorbitant but not cheap either.
E. S.
I had here the best Sunday Roast in my life.
Price are normally 20% higher than a normal Sunday Roast but will definitely come back
R. H.
Good food, good value but service is a bit suspect (depends on your waiter I think). Nice place though for a grown up meal
E. s.
Great place amd great food. Nice staff and welcoming atmosphere too. Really enjoying dining here. Highly recommended.
H. H.
Extremely good quality food, fantastic service and the weekday lunch menu is a great value! Can’t wait to go again.
S. M.
This is seriously my favourite restaurant in Brighton. The food and wine is superb and i love the attentiveness of the staff. A gem
G. M.
Excellent food and attentive service. A nice place for a first date or to spend time with someone special.....you will need to book ahead though.
J. C.
Good traditional hearty fare, served with flair and personality by the staff but not as good as it should have been for the price. Let down a bit by the kitchen.
E. B.
Out and about on a Saturday afternoon and I popped into the south lanes. To my surprise I found this absolute gem! Excellent food and the atmosphere was resounding! 5 Star
L. B.
Pricey, but sometimes it's worth it. This was! Great food, potentially best steak I've ever had
D. B.
Absolutely fantastic great food, great service, recommend to anyone and everyone
D. N.
Fantastic selection of steaks, which our party ordered a selection board of. Absolutely mouth-watering, accompanied by some great wine too.
A. B.
Cracking restaurant, great atmosphere, very good service and crucially, excellent food. Knives need to be sharper however, and the tables are too close.
C. F.
Just about as good as steak can get. Top notch service and lovely wine.
J. F.
Fantastic food. Price is a bit steep but if you like good food then this place is for you!!
M. K.
The place we were meant to go was closed so we did a quick search and found this spot. What a win! Staff were friendly, service was quick and the food was amazing. Absolutely would recommend this place to anyone!
C. F.
After all the hype about this place, we were quite disappointed with their Sunday Lunch steak. The yours hire puddings were burnt and the steak was gungey... Potatoes were fantastic tho!
S. D.
Expect the very highest quality meat dishes and you will not be put off by the prices. In my view well worth it.
m. o.
We’re regular customers to The Coal Shed and visited last night. The food was absolutely sublime from the Oysters and Pork croquettes and the Ribeye Steak was just mouth watering. The service was excellent and it was fantastic to come back - The Salt Room next There sister restaurant April 15th to hopefully celebrate a sub 4 hour Marathon 🤞
a. c.
OUTRAGED AT THE RIDICULOUSLY SMALL SERVING OF FOOD...MY FILLET STEAK WAS SMALLER THAN MY BIG-TOE AND MY PARTNERS SEA-BASS HAD LESS FISH ON IT THAN TWO FISHFINGERS IN A SEAFOOD SAUCE..! FOOD WAS GENUINELY TASTY JUST NOT ENOUGH OF IT...£96.95 ... TUT TUT TUT... I MADE CHEESE ON TOAST AT HOME AFTER...
S. H.
Great interior but every time I’ve gone it has been dead. Great staff and service but steak was burnt and I was told it’s the way it is because of the way it is cooked
D. W.
Had an excellent steak meal followed by home made sweets and a espresso Martini.
Everything was very good.
L. S.
Best steak restaurant in Brighton, service impeccable. The Private Dining room upstairs is superb. Love this place.
A. P.
Brilliant service, incredible food, lovely ambiance. The Espresso Martini wasn't amazing, but that's the only gripe.
d. r.
Best Sunday roast ever! Excellent service to match all so good with out 3 yr old Dominic, whose meal just happened to be free!
A. M.
Fantastic meal. Best steak for miles
H. R.
Perfect service, delicious food. Superb evening.
M. C.
Amazing atmosphere, staff are friendly and professional and the food is fantastic. One of the best places to eat in Brighton. Food is expensive but worth every penny!
S. M.
One of the best steaks I've had in a long time. So tasty.
P. P.
Had a lovely meal for my sons 18th with family. Great food and service. Would recommend

S. S.
Another evening of delicious and drink in the Coal Shed with great service.
L. D.
Amazing food and service!
S. M.
Great service. Steaks not finished quite to Goodman or Hawksmoor standards, but good. Sides and starters great.
E. M.
The best steak in Brighton and really friendly staff! Went twice last month and will be back again soon!
H. B.
Very relaxed atmosphere with a wide choice of steaks. Served by knowledgable attentive staff
A. M.
It was good steak. Service charge added to the bill for 2 people seems a little crass
P. S.
Very good service and very good food
G. S.
Great food and great service.
S. B.
Excellent food. Very friendly service and staff. Lovely atmosphere.
B. R.
Incredible rib eye steak! Best meal we've had in a while, accompanied by a few glasses of chianti

Waiting staff were friendly
A little off the high street
Smallish restaurant but great decor
Really enjoyed it

Great price, great customer service, great food, loved the experience
S. K.
Great quality steaks in a lovely environment with superb service, would highly recommend.

N. M.
This is one of the best Steak Restaurants ever. Full Stop!!!!!!!

I had an amazing Birthday dinner at the Coal shed it was absolutely delicious, the guy who served us was very helpful and friendly, I will be going back for more!!!
J. T.
Very popular and you will need to book, staff are very friendly and helpful, food very good, quite expensive, nice place to go for a celebration meal
M. P.
Tasty steak restaurant. Have been to better for lower prices, but not in Brighton (two bulls steak house in Hastings is greatness).
R.
Great atmosphere fantastic range of wines and we'll mixed cocktails and the food was on point from starter to main very recommended
K. H.
Most amazing steak! Wonderful service. Would definitely recomend

M. W.
Fantastic food and excellent service.
Thank You and we definitely will come back to this place.
P. H.
Over priced with small portions. The meal was excellent but 2 hours later I was hungry again.
J. H.
The food is good but the portion sizes could be improved slightly.
