The food was amazing, especially since they only used fresh products and their home-made dips are a must-try! The staff were really polite, helpful and it didn't take long for our food and drinks to arrive. The restaurant also has great decor and you should definitely eat there if you're in Bristol!

Amazing food and very nice people working there. The home made dips are amazing, a must try!! Very happy with the visit, would definitely recommend 😊

Has to be the best Indian in Bristol!
Not to say I've tried them all but now that we've discovered Chai Shai I don't need to... I can't think of a single way to improve... The food is fresh, delicious and plentiful. The delivery chap was kind and quick. And compared to other options via Deliveroo it's excellent value and feels wonderful to be supporting a local business. What more could you want?

Fantastic food and loved the staff. 100% the best Dahl I've ever eaten. Couldn't recommend more
A. R.
Fantastic! Food was amazing! Staff were so friendly and welcoming! Recommend to all!

It’s been aaaages since I had a Chai Shai. I saw it pop up on Uber Eats and thought winner! All the dishes were delicious (we had tilapia, mutton and spinach). Everything had great flavour combos and not too heavy or greasy. The gluten free samosa was so good - it’s been years since I’ve been able to have one. Couldn’t be happier. My other half said it’s the best curry he’s had in Bristol. Defo recommend.
B. N.
Fantastic food. Not rushed. Just great.
B. M.
Relatively small menu, and we were vegetables oriented and managed to find a lot of options. Prices are reasonable, it also helps the fact is the place is BYOB

The best curry takeaway of the moment in Bristol we have tried. Pay a bit more than some places but worth the money for a more authentic very tasty meal

This fantastic little restaurant serves truly yummy Indian food, one of the best I’ve ever had. We have had sit in or take away many times before Covid (and every time I meant to write a review and forgot) and since they started take away after lockdown we have ordered from them several times. They never fail to impress us. Food is delicious, portions are big and they always include some extras which we appreciate. Can not recommend them highly enough.

Excellent, authentic tasting, non oily, great quality Indian food at a good price. Very pleased to have found this little gem, will be ordering more! Oh and friendly service and big portions. Yes!!!
L. P.
Delicious food with a fast and friendly service. We ordered for 2 people and it was plenty of food, so much that we will have left overs tomorrow. They forgot the sauces but when I called them, they apologised and delivered them for us really fast with extra pakora.
I really recommend them!!

We ordered a fantastic meal to take away. I can say hands down it was one of the best curry’s I’ve ever had. The food was ready extremely quickly with contactless collection. Would highly recommended!

Chai Shai is my lockdown lucky find. I didn't know this restaurant before, but I got fortunate enough to get talking to its owner, Faruk, in my neighbourhood, as I walked past the beautiful garden that he grew out of nothing just outside his family home during lockdown. Then, I found out that he ran this business and was going to re-open! I immediately tried it and it's one of the best I've ever had. I've only ever had take-away as it's not open for dine-in yet, but the service has been always quick and smooth. Faruk is a kind soul: he always has a welcoming smile on his face, and also includes extra treats with your order, like poppadoms and dips. The portions are generous, I always enjoy a bit of leftover for lunch the day after. The menu is small, which my culture (Italian) taught me is a sign of an authentic restaurant: family-run, just a few dishes, prepared with care and quality ingredients. The food is always delicious, what a feast! If you're vegetarian they also have excellent choices. I highly recommend Chai Shai - support your local businesses (and talk to your neighbours). I hope that I will be able to go for a eat-in meal when the pandemic is over but, for now, I will keep enjoying my weekend take-away treat!
Thank you Faruk - see you soon! :-) Stella

Delicious BYOB
Last weekend a group of 9 friends and I visited this lovely little restaurant. The staff were very accommodating and managed to fit us in on a Saturday night!
The food was light and refreshing, not oily at all.
They have a decent amount of vegetarian options, and everything on the menu is reasonably priced. Our waiter Issac provided our large group with impeccable service.
I definitely will be visiting again.

What a wonderfully charming, friendly and inviting restaurant this is! The menu is not vast but the dishes are incredibly tasty, home cooked and set apart from the rather predictable flavours that tend to be associated with run of the mill Indian restaurants. The project has clearly been a labour of love for the owner, who we had a long chat with during our recent visit. She and her colleagues could not have been more welcoming and friendly, even providing us with some free beer, which had been left behind by a stag party group who had visited earlier in the evening. Highly recommended!!

A family run Indian restaurant with focus placed on the incredible food. All dishes are busily made to order, you can really see just how much care and attention goes into each order. A hidden gem that you must try. Advisable to book ahead to secure a table and don't forget it's BYOB.

Had our first takeaway from Chai Shai kitchen tonight & it was lovely! It arrived faster than expected; the chicken tikka was juicy and delicious; the kuddu gosht was well-spiced (I would’ve liked a bit more chilli heat), with the mutton tender & falling apart; a generous portion of light-as-air poppadoms and tasty chutneys; plus buttery & fragrant pilau rice, and some (free!) vegetable pakoras with a punchy cumin seeds & chilli. The best curry we’ve had in Bristol - thank you Chai Shai, we will be ordering again 🤤
J. M.
When we arrived it was reasonably quiet but it soon became completely full, having only a small dining area. More customers continued to come in and were sent to the Bag of Nails next door to have a drink whilst they waited for a table to become available. Despite this, the staff were attentive and friendly and didn't make us feel unwelcome, despite the inevitable fact that we were rushed.
The food was delicious. We had poppadoms with traditional homemade dips. The raita was made with a twist: the herb used was dill rather than coriander. The mango chutney had a pleasant spice to it. We shared a chicken and a mutton curry with Indian style rice. The chicken breast was soft and in a sweet and delicious sauce. The mutton was suitably darker and just as satisfying.
We liked that it was an open kitchen, it felt very informal, and was generally a very pleasant environment.
We were very impressed and will definitely be visiting again, not least to try their lunch boxes. Would definitely recommend!

We where the only two there for lunch and it’s hard to understand why that was. Interesting and simple one page menu. The roti was tasty and light, Vegetable Samosa was well filled with delicate pastry and the two curries we had were delicious. To cap it all off the price was reasonable and below what you expect to pay for such tasty, fresh food.

I'm from Malaysia where there's just absolutely loads of great Indian food and yet I have to say this is undoubtedly one of the best experiences I've had with the cuisine. Amazing owners, amazing menu, amazing flavours. You need nothing more than that for a meal any time of day. Try it for yourself and you'll know what I mean.
A. W.
The care and pride that goes into their food is clearly evident when you taste it. A family run restaurant with a friendly welcome and an authentic menu. A genuine gem. We had a really enjoyable meal and definitely recommend.

Super tasty. Not a massive menu which is great as you know everything still be tasty. Very friendly staff and all the little extras where fantastic.

My review two years ago: I dream of Chai Shai food. Love eating here and Farouk and Shilpi are very accommodating and make us feel at home. I gave them 5 Stars.
My review now:
I left Bristol for a year and when I came back I was excited to take my partner with me, who loves to cook, he was keen to try this restaurant he's never been to before. Sadly we were quite disappointed... All the curries we ordered tasted and looked the same despite the difference in descriptions in the menu. I remember the dishes being very fresh tasting and herby, ingredients were distinctive within the dish. Unfortunately this was no longer the case. Our fish also tasted of chemicals, but this is no fault of the restaurant, but probably the supplier of the frozen fish.
The family probably aren't around as much as they used to be, and maybe the quality has slipped slightly.
D. S.
Possibly the best curry I’ve ever eaten! Love the menu, just a few choices which is such a refreshing change from your usual places with page upon page of the same old currys. The garlic naan is amazing, as is the Indian style rice.
T.
Really great food. Friendly service. The Chef came to our table after we had eaten to ask us what we liked the best. Difficult to say, it was all lovely. Simple great tasting food, well priced.
T. H.
Excellent hospitality and incredible food. We were a big table and they looked after us with 110% attention. A few of us were vegan which they easily accommodated for too so no stress all round. Thanks for having us 😁
T. F.
Really good, and great value. The naan was delicious, and a few tables were mentioning it between themselves.
I was eating on my own, due to travelling for work, not excessive sadness, and I was welcomed and checked on rather than derided.
It is cosy, but if you have a larger group, they have a larger function room upstairs.
B. R.
My favourite Indian eatery in Bristol. The lunch time offer is fantastic value for money, and absolutely delicious. The menu is small but perfectly formed, meaning quick service when eating in or taking out.
C. H.
Good food, nicely priced. Menu was well selected and is wonderfully concise unlike some other Indian restaurants. Everything chosen was great. We all had a good time here.
J. W.
We each had a poppadoms, curry and a naan bread. Came to about £12.50 each. Food was awesome, one of the tastiest curries I've had in Bristol. Service was great & quick. Will definitely be back and remember to BYOB next time.
S.
One of the best Indian restaurants I get to visit across London and the South West. The Pakoras are fantastic, chicken is always tender. Great range of veg options, and, totally bring your own bottle - and the pub next door does take away pints if you forget!
G. L.
First time we've ordered a take away from Chai Shai and we were really impressed. Good service, great food, we chose a good selection and had plenty to eat.
D. M.
I've dined there several times. Best Indian Food in Bristol by far. Great place. Highly recommend but not if you want curry house experience.
T. R.
What a wonderful place. Truly authentic indian cooking. Not a masala in sight . So delicious. Home cooked. The best I have had.
Very small so worth booking. Portions great and very reasonable.
B. G.
Great food and a lot of it. I used the app wriggle to get a main, naan/rice, poppadom and chutney for £9 but that turned out to include 3 dips and some onion bhajis too. It was full of flavour, big pieces of chicken and totally filling.
a. p.
Wonderful little family run restaurant . not as big choice in the menu. But we had 4 items all of which Where 1st class .bring your own alcohol .or buy from pub/bar 2 doors away Bag of Nails good arrangement works well .
R. M.
Beautiful food in a friendly little restaurant. No booze but as others have said they were more than happy for us to bring a pint/glass of wine from the Rusty Nail 2 doors down. Talk-ups for the cheese naan and the Saag Aloo with sweet potato was great.
c. w.
I arrived alone, unwell and exhausted but left feeling relaxed and energised. Unable to eat various things, I was cooked up something that was not on the menu to suit my needs, given a wonderful tea and made to feel extremely welcome. Honest, homely and very good food!
S. K.
After recommendation to dine here by a friend I can overall say that I enjoyed the food here. A recommendation would include a more savoury yoghurt chutney as the one I had was almost like a lassi (sweet yoghurt drink). Service was also very fast!
J. T.
Soooo good. Amazing food! Lovely cosy atmosphere. The staff were lovely and very helpful and accommodating to our vegan dietary requirements. 10/10 would recommend
I. K.
Very nice cosy place. It serves affordable, tasty simple dishes which are always a joy to eat. The place is small and crammed, so make sure you book in advance.
B. S.
Had the chicken saag, the chicken was quite dry but the flavour was ok. The service was average, a nice lady on her first night and a grumpy chap. Don't really understand the great reviews wouldn't rush back
J. N.
Delicious food, generous proportions friendly service....thoroughly recommended x
M. H.
Friendly cosy place with really tasty full of flavour dishes. You can grab a drink from the bag of nails and bring it with you. Nan bread is amazing
R. F.
It's a wonderful experience every time we go there, we always do takeaway . The service is and food is second to none. Its authentic and classy and at great price 👍

Delicious food from Chai Shai this evening! many vegetarian options and meat options alike. We really enjoyed everything!
K. B.
Amazing food. Just the way it is cooked at home. Succulent lamb curry, sprightly achari chicken and excellent thoughtful services. Highly recommended!!
B. M.
Lovely little joint. Cosy, friendly staff and great food. Bring your own drinks. A small menu but very tasty food.
N. L.
Probably the best curry house in Bristol - not your standard takeaway Indian place though so don't go expecting the usual fare.
T. A.
Always the very best home cooked fresh dishes but this evening the food was out of this world, fabulous
J. J.
Lovely family run place, amazing food! They don't serve alcohol so BYOB. It's pretty small inside so book early and be prepared to get cosy

Cosy indian restaurant with a small but tasty menu. Was a novelty having to go to the pub next door for drinks. Will definitely return.

E. F.
Delicious food (better even than a good takeaway), generous quantity and charming staff. Thank you!
W. L.
Delicious authentic curries. Very friendly service. And a very nice pub next door.
H. V.
It was quite cramped for a table of eight, the food was nice but not amazing. The pub next door will let you bring your pint to the restaurant as long as you bring the glass back.
R. D.
Great food, not the basic british Indian, really nice staff thanks a lot :)
Y. K.
