Reviews of Clifton Sausage
M. R.
Lovely atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff that provided a good service. I ordered the tasting plate, which came with 4 large sausages (lamb and mint, beef, traditional pork and the Clifton). The Clifton sausage was definitely my favourite, followed by the lamb. The beef and traditional pork were nice, but lacked the wow factor for me. The gravy was tasty and the mash was lovely and smooth. The service was a little slow, but overall a lovely place to go and eat and good value for money.
R. P.
It’s real simple - it’s sausage and mash. It’s also real good!
There are other options on the menu but that would be rather missing the point. The pigs in blanket and sausage roll starters should not be missed and the coffee was also startlingly excellent (it is Clifton after all)

Visited for the first time Clifton Sausage during a nice evening on a Saturday.
We ordered couple of Tasting Plates but also the Special Sausages of the day.
Food was tasty and fresh and arrived relevantly quickly.
Staff were kind and helped us to choose our meals.
Dessert was extremely tasty, make sure you order the Toffee one!
A. B.
Premium Sausage & Mash joint, cute decor, fair price, good service! Accommodated us having a table near the window and told us about the different sausages and mash. Although if having lunch or dinner I’d strongly recommend to get a veggie side each tho to give things a bit of colour and different texture. 🥔🥬

Walked past this place loads of times .decided to give it a go and wow we were not dissapointed.a lovely atmosphere. Very pleasant staff and great service. The food was cooked perfectly and a very generous serving too .price is also very reasonable.if you like feeling satisfied and like youve eaten beautifull quality food you need to book here .we will be back very soon .

After 3 weeks of visit to UK, we finally experienced quality food and service which used to be readily available in the UK in the good old days.
Food is unpretentious, excellently prepared and attractively presented.
The staff are knowledgeable and courteous.
Wine list is well balanced and reasonably priced.
Wish we had found this restaurant a few days sooner so we didn't have to waste so much time and money in the other disastrous Bristol food establishments.

WOW wow !!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My partner booked a table here for Sunday Roast for my birthday and I must say this is the best roast I’m yet to have in Bristol!!! (And I’ve been to a lot of spots !) my partner is vegan and they catered for her brilliantly. The food itself was delicious, all well cooked and fantastic quality. The service was brilliant as well, friendly staff and a really nice place.
Overall very impressed and will definitely be back
M. W.
Fabulous selection of sausages with mash, and recommend adding toad-in-the-hole. Good range of wines reasonably priced, together with dessert wines (and desserts!). Staff efficient and hard-working, in prime Clifton Village setting.
M. V. D.
Love this place, nestled in Clifton and a quick walk from the suspension bridge. I always get the pork belly and it never disappoints. Grabbing a seat outside in the summer is a nice option and the drink menu is big.
H. B.
If you’re like me and love sausages then this is the place for you. There is a great choice of sausage and good wines to pair. I went for the sharing platter and my favourite was the Clifton! Definitely worth asking for the specials and the horseradish mash was the best thing ever. Shall be returning!
D. A.
Good vibe. Great pork. Fish and beer was excellent too. Service good even with Covid. Try the Clifton sausages with mash of the day.
Feb22 - back again. Same dish. Even better. Waiters great too.
B. T.
I went here with my parents for a weekday lunch, the guy who served us was really friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and advised us on the specials and gluten free options for my mum and me. I had the king prawn starter and old spot sausage and mash for main, and we shared a bottle of dry rosé. Thoroughly enjoyed everything we had and the chat with the waiter. Would definitely go back!
S. W.
Great variety of sausages on the menu and generous portion sizes. The meal was absolutely delicious
R. L.
Absolutely cracking food which was beautifully presented. You definitely need to book in advance. Not sure if they're low on waiters but we struggled to convince them to let us have lunch there.
Totally worth it though! We only had time for a starters/sharers but they were amazing.
The homemade sausage rolls and pigs in blanket were bangers!
Alright that's a terrible pun but they were really great!
B. G.
Absolutley brilliant little gem in Clifton!
The staff were really friendly and allowed us to try the ale before ordering. The food was really nice and they had a children's menu and colouring for our 1 year old. Honestly if you're looking for a decent family place and or want a nice quirky decent restaurant/bar check this place out!
S. K.
Had lunch here today with my family. Food was excellent, I had Stilton soufflé for starter, sausage of the day (which was duck, plum and ginger) with champ and onion gravy, and chocolate and amaretto torte with chantilly cream. A pint of Ashton cider with the meal. Will definitely come back for another visit ❤️
J. P.
I have been here a couple of times and on both occasions the food has been absolutely belting. Awesome quality but the restaurant isn't stuffy or pretentious, it has a really good atmosphere. They usually serve locally sourced beers as well which is a nice touch.
P. H.
This long established Clifton restaurant is usually pleasantly busy, particularly so on Friday and Saturday evenings. Good service and food. Slightly quirky and chill worth a visit.
K. G.
This is a great little restaurant in the centre of Clifton, we had a super meal fully of variety and tastes if you like pork and sausages its a must. Lovely lady looking after us service was perfect. Table x 3 Tuesday 1st March
O. M.
Easily the best meal I've had in Bristol!
We arrived around noon on a Monday so the restaurant was pretty empty. However, we were treated like their best customers by all of the staff.
The food was absolutely incredible and the wait staff couldn't have been nicer. I would come back here in a heartbeat. I always look forward to visiting the Sausage whenever I come to Bristol and they never disappoint.
10/10

We were expecting more. We went for a 2 courses Sunday roast for £19, 1 side and 1 pint of beer for almost £50. Sides are charged extra (for example the cauliflower with cheese is £4.5). We weren't asked how we wanted the meat cooked, the beer we asked for was gone and we were not given a good knife to cut the meat (we had to ask for that). We were not impressed by the service.
I didn't like the mushroom soup but my wife did. The pork belly and beef were average. We previously went to another local pub in clifton that was not so highly rated and we ate better and spent less.
Maybe the sausages are better?
We left not satisfied as we were both expecting more.
R. S.
Absolutely lovely evening. Delicious food, good service and it’s now one of my favourite places to eat.
T. M.
Great food with very decent sized portions! Nice staff. Will definitely return when next in the area!
N. B.
This time I took my sister there for the first time and she loved it. She found it is very reasonable price for the quality, quantity and where it is.
We went for parsnip crisps and whitebait as starters then in the hole, venison sausages along with mash of the day which was chorizo mash. I think I'll skip the starter next time because I couldn't really finish my main after those big starters.
C. B.
The food was amazing. Unreal. I went for the Vegetarian option and I'm not a Vegetarian. Service was great. When I am down from Newcastle again I will definitely visit again
S. D.
Went for Sunday roast and were really impressed by the choices and quality.
I have food allergies and they were very accommodating and thorough. Will be coming back!
E. G.
Really, really good sausages (and everything else - mash, yorkshire, gravy) at a very reasonable price. Staff are really helpful too, would highly recommend if you love a good sausage - the veggie option is equally as delicious as the meat options, it was very hard to pick a favourite!!
F. M.
The staff were lovely as usual.
The sausage rolls were epic all be it too salty like the rest of their sausage kin.
Given this new normal we live in, I was surprised to see that the venue didn't seem to have any forms of ventilation.
All in all a great lunch/dinner location that we go back to every year but I would appreciate if they made their menu healthier and opened a window.
B. E.
Fantastic Sunday roast! All staff (except from one) had great customer service! The roast pork and sticky toffee pudding were amazing!
A. J.
Meal with a few great friends, last minute booking. Was so good as we hadn't really been out since restrictions ended. Great food, good prices. Fab staff. I asked how long food would take as I'm type one diabetic and needed to inject insulin before the meal. They were so accommodating and lovely about it. Service was excellent considering it was a Friday night. Definitely worth a return trip.
J. S.
Had some really great sausages here. This restaurant is located in the picturesque Clifton Village and doesn't disappoint with a selection of specialist sausages. I had the taster selection which included 4 of their normal menu sausages with the mash with spring onion which was pretty good, let down a fair bit by the gravy
A. d.
Visited for the first time.. The place had a good ambience and their service was good. We loved the Pork Ribs and Homemade Sausage rolls.
N.
Turkey and cranberry sausage was the special today - delicious. Great value too. Will be back soon.
M. C.
Excellent restaurant, Excellent subject matter....stumbled across this when looking for somewhere to eat. Great food, friendly staff. A must visit for sausage fans. Interesting and tasty choice available, great for any food fanatics. I would love to go again!
S. T.
A table for 12 booked for a Christmas family meal including 3 labradors plus one Ridgeback puppy together with a 4 year old child. All of us made very welcome. The food was fab, the 4 year old enjoyed his child size meal, the dogs provided with water, the service speedy. If there is one winge, background music would have made it perfect. I'll be back with my husband!
G. S.
Great little place to eat. As you'd expect from the name the sausages are amazing
J. J.
It's been at least 12 years since my last visit. I loved it. Will try to make my next visit a little sooner.
S. H.
Nice restaurant/bar. Good food and drinks. Staff were friendly and helpful.
D. D.
Visited with my partner and our 2 girls recently and had to post a review. The food and service was absolutely superb. I had the pork belly and it was stunning and a very reasonable portion size too. The kids homemade fish fingers were "the best" they've ever had. As mentioned, the service was exceptional too and we all cannot wait to come back. Thank you CS!
F. C.
The Sausage is a really charming restaurant serving traditional West Country grub with refinement. You will be welcomed by a lovely team and a manager who was quite a character. I can't really find fault, so it'll have to be 5 stars
C. c.
Good selection of sausages. Service very good and food was delicious.
M. J.
Excellent service, lovely staff, wonderful food.
Dog friendly 😊
R. C.
Banging good food and not just bangers!
Great service, layout, ambience, good location - will go back
H. L.
I had the ribs on the lunch menu. The portion was absolutely massive but there was something lacking in the sauce. It was good but didn’t blow me away, maybe a little more seasoning would do the trick. Service was excellent though, if I wasn’t driving I would have stayed for a drink and a chat.
l. j.
I Absolutely recommend this place for food and service, the food was exceptionally tasty and staff are very attentive, helpful and friendly. This place is definitely in the top range of places I have visited , was a nice surprise at how good it was. We didn’t have a booking and had only stumbled across this as many other places where closed in the area on a Monday. Would recommend it all round. Definitely a must go if your a foodie. I will be sure to return soon so I can try other items off the menu
d. T.
Great place. Food was great and staff very friendly and attentive. Food came quickly and was perfectly cooked. Best news for us is that they are dog friendly so Jarvis (favourite treat is sausages)was delighted.
T. D.
Good service delicious lunch. Good value. Also had an excellent pint.
C. W.
Great service, excellent food. Would highly recommend.
M. F.
We came in for Sunday lunch. Was busy, but despite this, service was attentive and efficient. We both had the pork belly. Food was excellent and I would definitely return to try their sausage selection which is extensive.
Y. J.
Clifton sausage was fine since i don't really like english mustard. The chilli king prawn with greens was reallu nice!
M.
Great Sunday roast and very good service! Very friendly and fast
J. L.
Bob behind the bar is excellent! Food is always good, and great wines.
S. M.
This is a fantastic eatery. Even in lockdown it provided a wonderful take out menu, service and value for money. We had a sausage roll and chips. One portion enough for two! The sausage roll was fat - thin layer of crisp pastry on the outside and a delicious chunk of sausage. The chips were excellent - best I've had in ages! You can't afford to miss this lovely place.
A. B.
Great restaurant with exceptional food.
On the night that we attended, we were looked after by a great team, especially by our waitress Joanna who was pleasant, provided great suggestions on what to order and went out of her way to provide an exceptional service.
The belly pork and the sausage tasting selection is a must.
The ciders were also exceptional, tasted completely different to the commercial ciders available across the country.
N. F.
If you like sausages, like I do, then this is a good place to go.
M. B.
The great thing about the Clifton Sausage is that it is about the only place in Clifton where you can get a bite to eat and a pint on a. Monday lunchtime, other venues getting over heady weekends I suppose. The other great thing about the Clifton Sausage is, well, their sausages. A real range of tasty bangers available, some traditional (Gloucester Old Spot) some more exotic. How about pork, leek and stilton menage a trois-ing in a sausage? Good vegan options for the non-carnal. Oh and the other Good Thing about the CS is their very friendly staff. On the debit side, it would be good to have another ale choice than the ubiquitous Butcombe, but its well kept. A great eatery in Clifton and I would be running up quite an overdraft there if I lived closer. Recommended!
R. B.
Spare robs and the pork belly were lovely. Very disappointed that there was no cheesecake left.
K. R.
Good wholesome food, the reindeer sausage and piña colada cheesecake were amazing!
V. N.
Lovely food and service. Only let down was the mens toilets, disgusting. Should be cleaned hourly ?
I. K.
Xmass dinner was superb, happy we picked this place to get together with friends for festive reunion before actual Christmas with family. Will return
I. R.
Great variety of sausages, went with some American colleagues, Toad in the hole took some explaining!
S. B.
Food is good, although pricey and is served quite slowly
a. P.
Great food but you've got to love the sausage , friendly waitresses, food was beautiful all served in a comfortable setting, if you enjoy it here try out the one in bath as the view out the back is amazing
C. S.
Amazing, food divine and service was excellent. Highly recommend.
L. W.
first time going here and will definitely return. myself and my group had the homemade sausage rolls and old spot pigs in blankets for starters between us. Both were fantastic and the sauces and dips accompanying each were spot on. for mains, 2 of us had the pork belly, 1 ordered the clifton, 1 ordered the trio of sausages. All meals were well recieved and very well liked. The pork belly being the best pork belly I have ever had, echoed by the other member of our group having it. The trio was given a solid 9/10 rating and the clifton an 8/10. The champ as opposed to standard mash I would highly recommend. the red cabbage is an unexpected and loved addition to the plates. Espresso martini was well done for desert and the waitresses were very attentive to clear plates etc, if I am honest a little bit too quick but thats just minor detail. Overall great drinks selection and fantastic food. Also a nice spot in the heart of clifton and inside you can get away with being casual or dressed up so you wont feel out of place in anything you wear.
T.
A lovely restaurant to enjoy for something different. Obviously the menu is very sausage themed which I thought was amazing, and a good change to the usual restaurants I visit. Exceptional quality.
A. M.
Sausage and mash never tasted so good, great service to go with it, 100% recommend.
N. T.
Delicious.
(Watch out for mutton traders! They're out and about)
r. h.
Best belly pork I have ever had. Excellent service.
A. H.
Great meal here again. No problem when cauli cheese was returned as it was cold, nice hot, fresh replacement and no charge.
S. B.
Typical UK food, as a German I really must say, good sausage !
N.
Despite the rain, we were kept mostly dry in their covered seating. The staff were very friendly, service was good, food was excellent. Definitely will be back to try more on the menu!
T. P.
We’ve eaten at the Clifton Sausage 3 times now and every time it is absolutely perfect! Brilliant food, atmosphere, restaurant and staff (friendly, fun, welcoming)! Can’t fault it and can’t recommend it enough! 👌🏼
s.
Solid food - the sausages are great my girlfriend and I had the Gloucester Old Spot and The Clifton (as they'd sold out of the Pork, Leek & Stilton ones), with the regular mash and onion gravy. The side of braised red cabbage was a really good accompaniment to the food - perfect for a chilly early autumn evening.
My only issue was with the gravy base, which tasted a little like gravy granules! I'm not sure if it is made from scratch, so I might be imagining things, but a fresher gravy would have been perfect :)
Really recommend!
e. w.
Excellent service and first class food.
Highly recommend a visit..🙂
C. M.
Simple but lovely food, friendly team and great atmosphere. We had a fab time and left with full happy tums!
T. P.
What a delicious lunch, both for the adults and the children. The team were really accommodating when we ran very late for our table and patient while my toddler was running around. We were nightmare guests but still felt so welcome!
p. J.
Great, good food. Parking hard but it is Clifton . Recommended.
m. m.
Awesome dog friendly pub/restaurant. Excellent beer, wonderful sausages, and friendly, attentive staff. We had sausages and mash and it was absolutely delicious. Would highly reccomend this establishment if you're in this neck of the woods. We'll be back for sure!
P. W.
I've been going to the sausage for many years. I moved away from Bristol a year ago. I popped in on the Saturday and was given a warm welcome. The owner and staff are alway friendly and helpful...
What about the food? It's great. The food is fresh and well presented. Not to mention delicious. The selection of wine is superb. Thanks for looking after us. Hope to come back soon
D. G.
We had a very good Christmas roast (turkey and trimmings) as a takeaway just before Christmas. The food was delicious, easily as good as we’ve had at restaurants in previous years. The only reason they lost a star is because the gravy was in a cardboard container with a lid (not even a coffee cup). We weren’t aware of this as the lunch was inside a paper bag (the strong type with handles). We put the bag directly into a cool box to keep it insulated and when I took the bag out at home the bag burst open and we realised the gravy had soaked through and all leaked out of the pot, and so also through the bag. Our food went all over the floor, thankfully in containers so the only thing we lost was the gravy. Apart from that it was great.
M. L.
Can't go wrong with good choice of mains and nice ciders too!
O. D.
Took my youngest son who loves meat sausages as a treat for Christmas. He totally loved the experience. I would only say that the apple juice isn't really for children unless they like a crisp semi sharp drink. Other than that totally recommended the place. Great food great service.
K. L.
We had a fantastic meal at the Clifton Sausage! The food was fantastic, we had belly pork and it was some of the best we have ever had. On the specials board they also had smoked garlic mash, which was also amazing!
The deserts were also fantastic, the chocolate brownie was out of this world, it melted in the mouth, it was accompanied with home made honeycomb, which was also amazing.
In addition to the quality of the food, the service was also first rate. The staff were lovely and very attentive.
Highly recommended, they have really have got it all right at the Clifton Sausage!
M. R.
Generous portions of well-cooked food but you need to be real sausage fan. My non-meat sausages were tasty and with the onion gravy a very rich meal. I would have liked the option of a smaller amount. Quite pricey for what is something you could easily make at home.
K. W.
What a find. Lovely place to stop for a meal. Old Spot sausages are so tasty, wholegrain mash is delish and onion gravy tops it off perfectly. Great atmosphere and service too. Would highly recommend to all. 5*
L. G.
Delicious food at a great price. Outdoor seating is always reserved however.
P. &. M. H.
Good food but very expensive wine
N. T.
Great, cosy restaurant. Lovely food, staff and atmosphere.
R. D.
Super food and hospitality - highly recommended. Homemade sausage rolls with an IPA in the sun, what more could you want for a breather on a sunny Friday afternoon..
G. L.
Great food Great service as always.
D. E.
The food and atmosphere at the Clifton sausage are always impeccable. The menu is great for an indulgent night out. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. We'll definitely be going again.
R. B.
Nice restaurant. Last visited in Feb 2020, nice array of drinks. Menu good however the only downside, is getting a table as very popular and if busy service can be a bit on the slow side, but if youre not in a rush its a lovely place.
B. R.
My story begins long ago, in this Clifton sausage restaurant no less than 5 years prior. I had a sausage, a sausage I have been dreaming of since that day.
So when my boyfriend's birthday came about, I had to share this joy with him and was pleased to find the food very much lived up to my nostalgic hype.
Quote from my partner:
"That was so good, I want to die"
The staff were excellent and attentive, particularly Elle who served us and bought both brilliant banter and energy. And also we can't forget Bob the manager, who painstakingly crafted a candle for the occasion. Above and beyond, good sir. Above and beyond.
Until next time and many thanks,
From 2 new loyal customers
A. M.
We’ve had a take away Sunday Roast today and it was absolutely beautiful, the pork belly was so tender with a lovely crackling perfectly cooked !!
And their gravy is to die for !
Plus the team was so warm welcoming and sweet ! Highly recommended !!
They made our Sunday !
C. C.
Amazing. Small menu executed really well. The Sunday roast was great. Attentive staff and a really nice vibe.
S. M.
Great place in Clifton for a good hearty meal. In my very humble opinion they serve one of the best Sunday Roasts that I have had the pleasure in consuming. The addition of Cauliflower Cheese and a wonderful cabbage, French bean and peas medley just finish it off in my mind. And for dessert their Sticky Toffee Pudding is sublime. Great cake and wonderful luxurious toffee sauce. Well worth trying out on a rainy Sunday with friends.
S. B.
I’ve been coming to this place for years, including for Xmas parties. During lockdown, I’ve been buying their BBQ pack - and I haven’t been disappointed!
There is a great selection, of very good quality. Simon is a total gent who really makes you feel welcome.
I literally can’t wait for this to open again 😁😁👍👍😮😮
I. R.
Great food. Nice atmosphere. Not sure about the pictures of sweet looking pigs you get to eat...
J. H.
Nice food. Dog friendly.
R. B.
Delicious food, little heavy on the portion size though which meant I avoided dessert. Quite pricey too but then this is Clifton! Toilets are annoyingly small. Atmosphere seemed quiet save the rather intimate company of other tables. Service was prompt and not too intrusive.
V. M.
Such a lovely place, we went for Sunday lunch. The menu is great as you can choose a roast or sausage as your main with a choice of sides. We both had sausages. With a dessert. Which was also delicious. Great portion sizes and friendly staff.
P. D.
Brilliant friendly service,on last two occasions we have had takeaways, food excellent, good sized portions much better value than other places.Hopefully can book a table soon.
G. H.
The pork sausages are sublime. The pigs are sustainably farmed and the food is amazing. I had the pork belly with bacon potato mash and a pork and cranberry sausage. A must visit!
K.
So, called in late on Saturday for something to eat, main menu was not available so order off the bar menu and also ordered a bottle of Macon.
Sadly my sausage sandwich was horrible, sausages only just cooked and tasted go herbs (which I HATE) . Was surprised when eth waitress took away the plate and didn't bother to even ask why most of it had been left.
Shame really as we love the place and the bar staff i particular are great (anyone notice the guy is a double for Steve Pemberton!). Five stars for service and location, but one for horrible snack !
A. W.
Food a drink were good. Forced 10% gratuity not so good. Be nice to decide if you want to tip or not
H. P.
WoW that slapped so hard...!! Loved every part of it. Feel sleepy now
V. R.
Fantastic roast but a little pricey! It's about 20 quid for a 2-course Sunday roast meal. But that aside, the pork roast was divine! The crackling was perfection and the roast vegs & potatoes were brilliant. The Yorkshire pudding fell a little short of expectation, but I wouldn't let that stop you from trying out this place.
E. D.
Great food. Took on their metre long sausage challenge, and if you finish it you get free toffee pudding. Both my friend and I were able to complete it and get the pudding on the house. It didn't seem like a metre , I guess because it was rolled up. The cost was worth if for the amount of food that you get. Oh and the pudding was delicious.
S.
Just picked up two Sunday roasts, one pork, one beef. Best takeaway ever, plenty of everything, cooked to perfection. 100% recommended.
S. R.
Best sausage and mash I've ever had the black pudding mash was lush as were the Moroccan lamb sausages definitely going back
S. S.
A great little restaurant. If you visit, you should obviously try the sausages!
The tasting plate on my visit was lovely - four tasty, high quality sausages with a side of delicious Champ. My wife had the vegetarian sausages and assures me they were great too.
The staff were very friendly and made our large, indecisive group feel very welcome.
C. J.
Cracking place, I hope it never changes, good food, friendly and polite staff meet with reasonable prices and a good wine selection that has something everyone can afford.
H. C.
Excellent meal even better value.
A. L.
Went in very lucky to get a table for one. Lovely service food hot , tasty .Fresh vegetable not the run of the mill selection. Highly Recommend Will Definitely Return
s. c.
Nice feel to the place. Good service. Food OK, if a bit pricey for sausage and mash.
S. S.
Great gf options and range of choices in general
P. J.
The sausage and mash with onion gravy was good. The £4 side of cauliflower cheese was watery and not very cheesy. The staff were pleasant. Food hygiene rating of 3/5.
R. R.
Tasty bangers and mash in trendy Clifton. Quality food but felt a little dated like the decor - meat was good but I prefer it to be a little coarser. And the peas and sweetcorn was very homely, so much so it would suit a Deliveroo at home rather than a night out.
K. C.
Good atmosphere, friendly bar staff, amazing wine and really enjoyed the Sunday roast. And the mushroom soup❤. My partner and i came here a couple of weeks ago and we are still talking about the soup 😊
S. G.
Always a great choice, Clifton Sausage has never disappointed. The only downside is that lots of other people like it a lot too so it can be very busy (and noisy) with long waiting times during peak hours but I suggest booking ahead and going slightly off-peak... Great service, awesome food. ££
M. S.
Great hearty food, tad salty. Unfortunately myself and my partner were placed between two very loud groups, which spoilt our anniversary meal a little, but otherwise were happy.
P. M.
Busy restaurant with good service. Food is average and expensive for what it is. Four small sausages, mash and gravy £14.00. The sausages weren’t special with many a restaurant serving better sausages as part of their breakfasts and for far less. Decent wine selection
I. P. P.
Cosy place, relax environment in the heart of clifton. The service was correct, the food was good and quite a generous portion. It was not the best pork or the best roast potatoes that I have tried, but I can't fault it either, plus the potatoes were quite good, considering their size, they were huge but still very skillfully cooked, tender and juicy inside. I would go again.
R. K.
Had a sharing platter with a couple of beers, both were excellent,
E. F.
Never had a bad meal in the place, excellent drinks and food selection.Bob and the team always makes us feel welcome. Would highly recommend
J. B.
Excellent food (we had the pork belly which was a very generous portion and beautifully cooked), lovely and friendly service. Not cheap, but definitely worth what you pay. We had a lovely evening here.
J. D.
30-something couple, walk-in, no booking. Restaurant was busy but host did a great job of finding a table.
'Twas a wet and cold December day outside, so the 2-course menu of sausages and mash was perfect and offered lots of choice. (Don't forget the sides!!). I'd recommend the "Gloucester Old Spot" sausages over the "Clifton" because taste and texture were superior, plus the absence of random herbs yields a better sausage. The squid to start was yummy while the sticky toffee pudding was so good it was practically inhaled!! They can't make a decent flat white to save their life, but the house coffee was a smooth medium roast.
Service was polite, informal and there when you need it.
Prices are good, with the wine being a pound or two above average.
Book ahead and be sure to get one of the booths, or perhaps a window table in the rear (the front looks draughty).
S. R.
Very unique type of restaurant, simple idea yet very very memorable! Delicious food, fantastic choice of sausages, staff very helpful too. The meals are bigger than you would antocipate, so a starter is not a good idea if you don't eat very big portions like myself! Don't get me wrong though, the starter I had was delicious I just struggled with my main. A must if ever visiting Clifton
A. W.
When visiting my daughter in Bristol I try to go to the Clifton Sausage as often as possible. Great place, I enjoy the food and the beer! Best to book in advance though.
K.
another superb meal here, some outdoor seating if that's your thing, good social distamcing and hygiene protection in place. food is tremenyamd service soit on. Its a Bristol great.
K. L.
Came here for a work do. Decent meal overall. Highlight was definitely the sausage roll, with be mustard. Cheese soufflé was decent, but not quite a soufflé to be honest. Steak, was mediocre, no seasoning bur quality was OK. The mojito dessert was not great, a bit bland. I remember asking for ketchup when the mains came and was told off by the waitress and told me to wait after a few other dishes were served. I felt it was a bit over the top, perhaps a simple 'ok' to acknowledge the request was sufficient? We are still paying customers after all. Also we waited almost an hour for dessert. It was quite a few of us, but even so the desserts aren't really that complex to plate up.
S. R.
Wonderful place the wife & i had toad in the hole with choice of sausages large portion was brought to the table tasty mash & onion gravy to die for !!!! If you are visiting Bristol you must eat here its a must. Lovely food lovely service will go back next time we visit our son cant wait
P. J.
Fabulous sausages & good pricing if you go early in evening.
S. J.
A very Delicious choice of food and Of course the sausages were fantastic. I would highly recommend the sausage of the day. When me and a few friends went last week we enjoyed the garlic, chilli and chirzo sausage. I didn't fancy any of the side mashed potato options even though they looked amazing. But the staff were very helpful and gave me lot's of other options for sides. I would highly recommend trying here and we'll be back soon
J. B.
Excellent and very tasty food. Staff were very friendly and their recommendations were spot on. Good sized portions with is always concern these days. Prices were in line with what you'd expect for this quality. Will return!
I. O.
Delicious food and great portions! IS a little pricey hence the four starts but otherwise it’s a warm friendly atmosphere with a really nice menu. Go here every Christmas with the family and it never disappoints
D. M.
Great to eat in, you can also buy their sausages to enjoy them at home!
C. M. M.
Booked last minute on a Saturday night and was able to get a table after a short wait. Food was delicious, service friendly, atmosphere very comfortable. I recommend the pork belly - it was sensational!
T. D.
Visited recently for a reunion. The food was nice but especially nice if you have gone for the sausages . Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available and staff are friendly. Beware, the place is not very big and can be noisy when crowded.
P. N.
Great sausage and mash or Yorkshire pudding. With vegetarian and gluten free options also. A little expensive for the portion size. Staff are helpful, especially with my friend that is gluten free.
M. B.
After hearing so many good things about the place, we finally decided to go out and for a meal at The Clifton Sausage.
As bangers and mash is the signature dish at the restaurant, we thought it would be rude not to tuck in and see what the fuss is all about, despite being tempted by some very nice looking mains from the 'British Classics' menu (the cod and mussel chowder style dish looked heavenly as I saw it served to a fellow diner)
I went for the Beef and Butcombe Ale sausage with champ, while my girlfriend tried the Cotswold lamb, mint and apricot sausage. Both were delicious for such simple dishes (we thought the lamb was the most interesting of the two) and the portions were very filling, so it might be best to share starters here rather than go for one each.
We will definitely have to make a return trip here to try the rest of the menu, and that's saying something as traditional English cuisine is not normally the kind of thing I would ever go for in a restaurant!
D. B.
I had a splendid experience while eating and drinking here and enjoyed 2 of my favorite pleasantries, sausages and cider. Service is friendly, food is excellent and the choice of drinks is good. Is only a short walk from the Clifton suspension bridge and clifton train station.
S. S.
Fantastic food (wife and I both had a lamb dish and shared sticky toffee pud), wine recommended for pairing with the lamb was excellent and the service was friendly and professional. Thanks for a lovely meal!
s. e.
Someone advised us to go and they weren't wrong. Good food, great wine and amazing service
A. P.
Incredible food - best sausage sandwich in Bristol! Very attentive and friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere and location, highly recommend.
M. O.
Delicious sausages. Portions are good and quality is definitely worth the price.
B. B.
The sausages were delicious, the toad well delivered, the vegetables outstanding, the mustard impeccable, the price made us cry on the way home.
I. P.
Great atmosphere, really friendly staff who were very accommodating. Portion size is really well judged at the upper limit. So make sure you commit to a starter or dessert.
D. G.
I had sea bream perfectly cooked. Others had sausages or roast beef, all reported happy with their choices. Pleasant ambiance, friendly staff, possibly a tad noisy for those find it hard to hear against a background noise
a. h.
Nice atmosphere great food lovely staff
W. H.
I, for one, never knew that sausage and mash could be quite so delicious.
Lovely restaurant, great food, friendly staff, highly recommended.
C. B. (.
The food was absolutely outstanding and the service was great. Reslly recommend this place! The only negative from my visit was that the bar was short staffed so there was quite a que for drinks. Still an amazing place.
D. P.
Delicious sausages and good beer on tap. Try the special sausage of the day toad in the hole - 3 sausages in a huge Yorkshire pudding.
The side veg is also fantastic if you can manage it.
R. B.
The waitress forgot to order our starters with the kitchen staff so mains came out. Manager apolosed and tool some money off our bill. Usually though it's good service and food.
A. U.
Decent selection of sausages on offer, the leek and Caerphilly was tastiest, some were a tad salty though. Friendly attentive service, good beers and wines on offer.
S. W.
A Bristol institution with excellent food and drinks. Lovely to see our local gin being served here too.
A. S.
Great food and very polite service. Will certainly return.
P. M.
Family friendly restaurant / gastro pub. Great real ales, great service.
A. D.
Very nice food, at a good price, with friendly service. Not too busy for a lunchtime. Also Right in the heart of Clifton village so easy to get to. Would come again
H. G.
Need to listen to customers feedback an acknowledge mistakes.
C. C.
Great evening. We will definitely go again.
D. O.
I like sausages. Here the sausages were good but they were not amazing. Wholesome food, but not quite what it's hyped up to be. Still worth a visit on a cold winters night!
m. s.
Simply great, well priced food.
The best sausage and mash in the South West for sure!
A great selection to suit all tastes and the Sunday lunch is worth checking out as well.
P. D.
Nice sausages. The "toad in the hole" option is misleading though. It's actually sausages with a large, separate Yorkshire pudding. Very filling. The staff are friendly.
B. T.
I had a really good meal with my brother and a friend, we really enjoyed the 3 game sausages , the wine was actually really good ( Crozes Hermitage £29 ,I'm from France )
J. W.
Love this place as a bar and restaurant. Great food and good choice of wines. Bar snacks pretty good and the staff very friendly and helpful. Only one thing to eat here and they are very good!!
M. H.
Best sausages ever and great staff!
N. R.
Excellent food, good service.. The place is so nice and busy. The sausages are yummy and prices are reasonable too. Please give it a go
S. H.
Fantastic food and service will definitely recommend and go again.
J.
3rd time we've been here and it was lovely. Can't fault the food or the service. Can't wait to come again for the bottomless brunch!
L. L.
Excellent meal. Staff were really lovely and helpful as we have a toddler. Changing facilities are very good !
B. M.
Really good, been a few times. Sausages to die for, excellent!
W.
If you love a good sausage, look no further! Fantastic selection of tasty sausages and mash. Delicious.
C. S.
Friendly and helpful staff, quickly sat down just for chips and a drink.
A. E.
Okay food, yes I know it's Christmas and they are serving a lot of people but it's on par with a frankie and bennys or generic pub in a travel lodge. Staff are friendly to the point of being sarcastic, but pleasant enough.
S. S.
Nice little place, decent food but quite expensive for what it was. Our friends' really enjoyed it, but we're from Cumbria so probably spoilt for choice locally
A. W.
Try the Clifton special sausage. Best I've ever had. 😁
M. M.
Amazing food and service. Felt totally safe eating there during these times. Thank you.
J.
Thank you for a fantastic meal. Brilliant service, quick and friendly even though you were busy. Love that you are dog friendly.
P. M.
This restaurant is amazing i was a little apprehensive at first as the name put me off but this was an amazing dining experience and the menu has a wide range of choice despite name of restaurant. Booking essential
N. B.
Went for lunch this week and had the beef casserole, it was amazing, tasted delicious, wish I had the recipe. It was served with sauteed potatoes and green cabbage
J. G.
Nice place to eat, very friendly servers. The food was English, so bland for an American like me. As English food goes, it was above average for sure.
L. S.
Great food. Although it was busy the wait was acceptable. Friendly but not over bearing staff.
B. J.
Wonderful restaurant, with excellent food and great local drinks.
L. R.
Great menu, good service good value for money.
S. C.
Friendly staff, tables separated and well organised with sanitizer on every table. The house specials were great.
I. C.
Amazing food. Reasonable prices. Very good local beer. Lovely and very fast service. Definitely recommend it.
E. R.
Best sausages in Bristol. This place has very friendly staff and a wonderful menu which changes seasonally. I would highly recommend the reindeer sausage at christmas.
D. R.
Had a great Reindeer sausage at Christmas. Drinks selection was good as well. Will definitely be coming back.
S. K.
Wonderful sausages, good service, hearty portions! Great choice of food! Would recommend!
W. T.
Tasty starter, main of sausage was really good for a sausage but for the money I think you could get something better elsewhere. Also the sticky toffee pudding was disappointing
S. P.
Great food, friendly staff , reasonable prices.. will definitely come here again ❤
J. A.
Simple, cheap, great service, nice terrace.
C. M.
Stopped here with my family before heading to the zoo, the young lady working could not of been more accommodating and helpful, she made sure our 2 year old twin girls got the food as soon as it was ready and kept them entertained, a credit to your business and has most certainly made sure we will visit again, thank you.
M. N.
Highly recommended if you're going to Clifton. The sausages are very tasty and the staff is very friendly and gave us some sightseeing tips.
R. P.
We are two girls from Barcelona and the last October we went to have lunch in this stablishment, and we have good memories because the food was very good, and we had a really nice time in there cause there was a very nice atmosphere :)
A. R.
lovely meal and a friendly atmosphere. choice of bottled beer was a bonus and ideal companion to sausage!
C. K.
Think it's over-priced for sausage and mash/Yorkshire pudding, but probably reflects location. Nice restaurant though and friendly staff.
J. B.
Lovely food for what is simply Bangers and mash, but unfortunately on leaving the resturant i found that my clothes smelt of cooking and all had to go straight in the wash.
H.
Great atmosphere and service. Didn't eat this time, but a good place for an early drink
M. J.
I should rate this one star so I can keep it for myself and get a table :-)
A busy place with an excellent choice of sausages including vegetarian.
L. D.
Busy restaurant in Clifton serving very high quality food and drink.
The best toad in the hole I've had out!
G. P.
Amazing food: delicious sausages and vegetarian options. Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere!
C. R.
To be very honest, I'm not the biggest fan of the sausages here - both this occasion and previously. So I ordered a chicken burger which I loved.
J. M.
Ordered champ, got plain mash. They didn’t bother to ask if it was all ok so I didn’t mention it. Portions little small and a little plain looking with no veg.
M. A.
I love sausages !.....there are other dishes available , just as nice, but I LOVE SAUSAGES!....well worth a visit..
A. C.
If you like sausages rolls then you'll love it here! The food is fantastic and equally great for a casual drink

J. L.
Great takeaway Sunday roast! Portion size was great and everything was delicious!
F. T.
Great boozy brunch. Staff were friendly and on it with the top ups the only reason fo not giving 5 stars is that the portions were small!
J. B.
Cozy place with home made food. Service unluckily slightly slow.
Little bit noisy either not being full, probably kitchen location.
Price was reasonable.
J. T.
Very tasty food (nearly all unsurprisingly sausage orientated) with plenty of seating options for diffrent sizes groups.
j. w.
