Reviews of Ronnie's
S. H.
Myself and my partner had stumbled into Thornbury and found Ronnie's for a quick lunch. Little did we know that this would be the best restaurant we had ever visited!
To begin with, the waiter was very friendly and showed us to our table. We quickly noticed that the decor was fantastic, there were beautiful flowers on each table and the background music was perfect. Amazing start.
We picked our menu choices and were absolutely stunned how beautiful and how tasty each plate was. You can tell that Ronnie's have taken a lot of time to carefully create these dishes as they are so unique in terms of the combinations used. The wine choices were absolutely spot on too, we were fans of the Hungarian wine options available.
The experience was so special, myself and my partner returned again a couple days later for Sunday lunch. We 100% recommend Ronnie's, we are already planning that we will return again and literally cannot wait.

I've been to Ronnie's before, and I thought the food was absolutely fantastic, in a beautiful ambient setting, so of course had to go back! On this return visit I was struck again by the comfortable yet refined decor, the fabulous selection of food available, and the sheer quality and attention to detail in the meal. In addition, the waiter went above and beyond in every way; unfortunately I had two fussy eaters with me that I hadn't known about in advance and he made sure to amend dishes and do everything he could to accommodate not only their needs, but their specific preferences (for example, one cannot have different foods touching each other, so they changed the entire plating for him). Absolutely recommend to anybody, this is a place not to be missed

Small taster dishes at lunchtime. It more than sufficed as a light lunch. All food is freshly cooked so it is not rushed but well worth the wait. Quiet, relaxed feeling with a very attentive, friendly and approachable waiter. Will return for evening dining; looking forward to the 6 course tasting menu with 'Flight wines'.

We visited on a weeknight and had an amazing time. The food and service were exceptional. I struggled to find a menu before visiting, and I think they update it regularly. I would highly recommend it to anyone; it is expensive but it's worth every penny.

We’ve just had our work Christmas Lunch at Ronnie’s and it was fabulous. Beautifully and imaginatively presented, palatable courses which proved delicious without exception. We were greeted on arrival and exceptionally well looked after throughout. If that weren’t enough, the atmosphere and Christmas decorations were charming. Highly recommended!

Eating at Ronnie's is an exquisite experience. The carefully created menu is prepared to perfection. Eating each dish accompanied by the recommended wine is a perfect explosion of flavour in one's mouth. Every time I come to Ronnie's, I enjoy every single dish very much and leave the place with the feeling of having eaten delightfully delicious meal. Highly recommended!

Fantastic birthday meal at Ronnies last night. Absolutely amazing food and such great value for money given the superb food and wine. Lovely service from Richard and Gracie too. I can’t recommend highly enough. If you love fine food and wine, come here.

Amazing lunch today, excellent service and really delicious food. The prawns are the best I've ever tasted. Highly recommend the lunch menu. Thank you for being so accommodating of our son too, he really enjoyed his dessert :)

Words cannot express how good this place is. Try it! Food is banging. Top service,

Easily the best meal I've had in Thornbury, and one of my favourite meals ever. Thw food was beautiful, the setting is lovely and the staff and service were 5 star. I can't rate them highly enough.
K. B.
Excellent service and superb quality and presentation of food. Really good value for money too. Would highly recommend.
V. F.
We had a lovely tasting menu for a celebration lunch - each dish was excellent. Only comment was that the prawns came late on, but were more akin to a starter - would have preferred to start with them.

My wife and I have been desparate to go to this restaurant for years so when we finally had an opportunity this weekend we went. We have been building up the experience in our head for years and for it to be even better than we imagined was just incredible. It is, by far, the best food we have ever eaten. The flavours were incredible and the pace the meal is served at means that even the most fast paced of people ( like we are) are forced to slow down and enjoy the meal.
Yes it is more expensive than your average meal out. But with excellent service, exquisite food and beautiful wine pairing, it is worth every penny.
In a world full of over promising and under achieving, this is a restaurant that does the opposite by leaning on beautiful food and wonderfully cookery skills.
Thank you for the best meal of our lives.

It's so long since we ate out at a top end place. We were really looking forward to it and it's so good to say that we weren't disappointed by anything. Thoroughly recommended for food, wine, service and delightful little extras by way of canapes.

Great time at Ronnie's this evening celebrating a friends 90th. Lovely food. Very attentive staff. Well done!!
P. T.
A wilfully eccentric but excellent place. No champagnes, but a good selection if English sparkling wine. No extra veg with main courses. But e erything we had was excellent. We even got a warm welcome after having arrived too early, unannounced, and nearly let their dogs out! We will definitely return if we are in the area.
J. W.
Fantastic meal, thank you, we will be back 😃

We celebrated my wife's birthday on Saturday at Ronnies of Thornbury with a total of 21 family and friends. From arrival to departure, our expectations were exceeded. Arrival cocktails were delicious and the food was not only delicious but the presentation was a work of art on every plate. Richard and his team attended to the service impeccably and unobtrusively ensuring that nobody was unattended even though we kept moving about. This was a lovely, relaxed and enjoyable day which we will remember for a very long time. Thank you Ronnie, Richard and the Team.

Wonderful atmosphere, food and service in a very attractively fitted out and decorated cottage. Quiet atmosphere making talking unobtrusive to others and easy to hear. Recommend a visit. I drove 2 hours to get there tomeet a friend. Very worthwhile.

Very tasty Sunday lunch, friendly staff. We'll definitely come back here again!
M. E.
Exquisite, the staff treated us like special guests, the food was tasty, well proportioned and high quality. Ambience was good too!
The only negative was that I felt a little chilly.

We went on Friday 4 February and found the food to be excellent and the table service perfect. Overall a superb night out, fully recommended and already planning the next visit.

So, taking advantage of the government's offer my family of 4 took a trip to Ronnie's tonight. I can only say that it was probably the nicest fillet steak I have eaten out (and trust me I have had a few). It was perfectly cooked, service was amazing and the atmosphere was friendly. This included my 10 year old son and 7 year old daughter loving every mouthful of their food and clearing every plate clean. I would have happily paid full price so this is a must visit right now. To top it off you can bring your own bottle (s) of wine to enjoy (with a small corkage charge). I cannot reccomend Ronnie's enough. Absolutely beautiful food and right now amazing value for money.
A. B.
Deserves 6 stars. Superb food, excellent wines and first class service.
£30 for a 3 course Sunday lunch at this level is an absolute bargain.
Well Ronnie and your staff.
A must visit restaurant.
S. B.
Had the takeaway tasting menu with wine flight during lockdown. Fantastic quality, amazing value for money for top quality restaurant food in your own home. Would definitely recommend. It might feel expensive for a local market town but it absolutely stands up to city centre equivalents and it's on your doorstep.
P. L.
Absolutely find for me, a cracking restaurant, a Chef with an exceptional palate, service befitting a Michel 2 star, and a menu to match. Perhaps a few fine wines on the list would be nice , still I will be back, first class
J. D.
Always amazing service and delicious food. We've dined in and used funky fodder to enjoy the meals at home over lockdown. It's the perfect place to celebrate a special event.
P. S.
Excellent food as ever- delicious and beautifully presented. Friendly and informed staff. Always a pleasure.
S. R.
Excellent restaurant. Everything is special in presentation and taste. Been many times and will come again
R. O.
Lovely welcome as we gathered for our daughter and son-in-laws' joint birthday celebration. The food was superb, with special mention to the beef with watercress. Staff were very attentive. Will definitely be returning.
T. A.
Food, Staff and service all excellent.
I highly recommend Ronnie's of Thornbury.
D. B.
Thank you for a great Mother’s Day meal, the staff were fantastic and the food was amazing! Really made for a special time with my family!
D. K.
A warm and friendly atmosphere with warm attentive staff the food is amassing and a very comfortable place to eat and drink. Richard was very helpful and professional. The Wild Mushroom Rossoto (probably spelt that wrong) was delicious and the Eaton Mess was fun to eat I'm surprised at this secret gem of a place
R. F.
I recently visited Ronnies for Sunday Lunch with my parents and Grandad.
I chose the scallops for a starter, roast beef as a main and then a banana and chocolate bread and butter pudding for dessert. This was £21 for three courses (which is really good value for the food that you get!)
The food was really delicious and looked stunning, almost too good to eat! The chef is extremely clever and the food really tastes amazing, complemented by good and friendly service. I plan on returning for more tasty treats in the future.
I also have a new favourite cocktail which I would really recommend trying - the Madame Butterfly which was really refreshing and tasty too.
D. H.
Food was amazing and the wine flight was great. Only downside was the fact that out of the 3 ladies that served us one of them was clearly not comfortable presenting the wine and made it slightly awkward. The other two were great and made perfect any wrongs.
K. B.
Dinner for two last night. We did not stay too long as I was driving. The service and food was absolutely excellent. The pickled vegetables and complimentary items were a nice touch too. service was swift and attentive. Have already booked again for my birthday!!
D. M.
Been dining here for years and have to say it's our favourite place to eat. Ronnie conjures sublime food every single time. Such a gem.
C. L.
Nicely done familiar dishes made with fresh local produce. Starters a little overpriced (at 12 pounds I would have expected more than three scallops). Good selection of reasonably priced wine by the glass.
M. O.
It's just the nicest food ever. I've been a few times now and I'm their again soon. Looking forward to the next visit. Ronnies is just sheer indulgence and my favourite place to eat right now.
It's sophisticated but down to earth with amazing but uncomplicated food. Be prepared to be wowed by the highest levels of service. You won't be disappointed.
K. K.
We have been here several times and like to go back everytime we're in the region. The food is outstanding and service is excellent. We have never had a bad meal here and look forward to the next visit!
R. H.
First meal out for ages and we weren't disappointed, fabulous food full of flavour and great service from attentive staff.... highly recommended if you like fine dining...
C. D.
My daughter and son in law brought me to this lovely restaurant for my birthday.Felt spoilt by the wonderful service and delicious food. Mushroom rissotto to die for.Wine recommendations to go with each dish and available by the glass, what a bonus. Also pleased that chef asked us if we were happy when we left. Thanks Ronnie. Fabulous.
M. T.
One of the best meals of my life. Great dining with a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, and friendly staff. Our mains were divine.
E. G.
Lovely staff and apart from one small amuse bouche the food was excellent, the restaurant however was almost totally empty which is somewhat disconcerting for 8:30pm on a Thursday night, when you are paying that amount for a decent night out, atmosphere is just as important and this was lacking to say the least on that front.
Was disappointing as otherwise it would have been a lovely night out
J. J.
Amazing food. On a completely different level to everywhere else near by. A real gem in the heart of Thornbury
N. H.
Always good quality and a price that does not leave a sting in the tail.
Having visited many of the Michelin star restaurants in the area I can say with confidence that the food here is as good as any, but with half of the bill!
Now Ronnie is back in Thornbury tables will become harder to get so book ahead!
R. P.
Visited for our anniversary celebration. Food was great and service to match. Good spacing and awareness of current Covid issues. Well done Ronnies.
k. r.
Simply the best place to eat in north Bristol if not all of Bristol (they do have a Ronnies in Clifton) well worth it superb food, ambiance and service. Not too expensive depending on your wine choice. My tip is to have the Signature scallops, yummy.
A. W.
Lovely tasting food but we were there for 2 hours before our main course arrived. The couple next to us who arrived an hour after us finished before us even though it was a set menu for the evening so we were all having the same number of courses. As we left we mentioned this to the manager and the chef, the manager walked away and the chef gave us a rather sarcastic response. A shame as the food and wait staff had been lovely.
P. H.
Obviously with being the 2009 Which magazine restaurant of the year you have to expect something nice and also pricey. However, it's worth it. We ate from the main menu but they also have a 5 course "taster" menu for £30. Lovely setting, great great food and in a relaxed but intimate setting. Unusually they also open their doors for breakfast which is also a delight but at a respectable 6.95

We have been regulars at Ronnies for a number of years now. We thoroughly enjoy our Sunday roasts here and always choose it for any special occasion as Ronnies is just that, special! The food is exquisite and Ronnie himself is a superb host and chef. We truly appreciated the high standards of consistency, well done Ronnie!
a. p.
The food in this restaurant is truly scrumptious and is presented artistically. The bread and tasters provided along side the meal were a really nice touch and the staff were really friendly. I would really recommend this restaurant!!
N. T.
Amazing food! Great intimate restaurant. Quality service 👌
D. M.
First time we've come away disappointed. We felt venison had a strange back taste and smell. However we've had many a great meal here previously so we will go back.
f.
really overpriced, but good food :)
S. M.
The food is superb and the service is impeccable. No need to go on and on, just experience it yourself. You will surely be raving about it. Most definitely recommend!!!
D.
Excellent Sunday roast today, beef was superb, very friendly service and great atmosphere
L. L.
Exquisite food and friendly service as always. The delicacy and perfect mix of flavours in the dishes was out of this world (I had the scallops to start and venison as a main).
s. r.
I've been 4 times and the food is always perfection, and the service is fantastic. My absolute favourite restaurant.
R. H.
Great food and fun, helpful staff. Would visit again.

Heard good things about Ronnies.. on entering..a very nice welcome, and only a five minute wait to be shown to our table..After a ten minute wait..the menu,s were brought, and as driving..we ordered water to drink..we gave our order from the set lunch.. the water arrived,,,and the bottle it was served from, and was left at the table..had dishwasher stains on it, and it was really worse for wear,,our water glasses were also marked,, then bread was delivered, and another half hour wait for our starters...it was a cold day, and the room was quite cool..cobwebs in the fireplace, and a large mirror that needed a good clean...the food was good but sparse,, the soup delicious.. however..it is not cheap, and cleaning issues need to be addressed.. the staff friendly and polite...by the time we left..we were cold..and feel the restaurant could have been warmer on such a cold day.

One of the best fine dining experiences in the UK, and very affordable. The complimentary starters were a pleasant surprise and the steak/meat was perfectly cooked.

Lovely lunch had the cheesecake on the lunch menu lovely flavours but the filling a bit claggy perhaps over whipped. I gave 5 stars because the chef/chefs deserve them.
