Reviews of The Wessex Flyer Brewers Fayre
I. S.
Stunning breakfast with every option available what grate value for money 100% recommend this restaurant for breakfast!!
Sunday carvery: so we had sunday carvery yes we had to wait for 10 minutes for the food to come out as they ran out of meats and vegetables but at least we had fresh food and again it was worth the wait the food was stunning. Can improve on customer service tho.
K. S.
Meal was okay. Wasn't overly impressed with portion size of side of sweet potato fries. As we were sitting by a window and it was locked, I asked if they could unlock it and open it, but they didn't have a key. I thought this would have been a priority issue due to Covid. I would go again, but maybe more for a drink.
d. b.
Dinner was very nice and the manager called Smooth looked after me and was on the ball to say the least from spotting me walking in to say thankyou when I left. Decent food and all the staff I spoke with were very nice and happy to help. Would happily come again if I was stopping in the area.
A. H.
All you can eat.. lovely breakfast was cooked to high standard..everything on my plate was perfect. The staff were very courteous and friendly gets your coffes or tea with it and can have as many as you want...its worth every penny.. its a 10 / 10 from me
R. M.
Decent breakfast for an all you can eat buffet, with quality ingredients.
B. A.
Food is ok and very pleased with kids dessert. After a not very Friendly welcome the table service was nice.
T. L.
This was a great experience, going to the Wessex flyer during the day is the way to go. It was much less busy and you are seen to promptly as well as it being easy to find a table. My wife and I were in the Wessex flyer for around 30 minutes and during this time we had our starters and mains, an amazing turn around time and a great place to go for lunch!
P. W.
Reasonable beer selection. Staff good. Atmosphere has taken the decade off.
Food as expected. Did not expect much and expectations were lived down to
B. P.
Clean and tidy with a friendly local feel at a national chain pub. Ideal for stopping off for our lunch before going to the airport for our flight.
A. B. (. T. H.
A nice evening out whether you're drinking or eating. Friendly team and a relaxing atmosphere to just have a nice chat with friends in and a nice mix of options for meals, if not a little small of a list.
D. H.
Food was small ordered fries for sharing and came out like a kids portion will not be eating here again staff was rude had dirty cutlery too other food we had was warm and not piping hot even tho we waited for 50mins for it
V. W.
Nice place and all staff are friendly food is good but sometimes when new foods come out on the menu at all brewers it is never in this one unfortunately had it a few times now. But do like this brewers a lot 😋🙂
C. M.
I used to go her a fair bit but the keep changing up there menu and they kept removing and adding back my favourite thing (the chocolate fudge cake) and I’m a very fussy eater so I usual only went for that…
D. H.
Nice place, slightly biased being a former resident nearby, but they do a range of vegan options, so that got them many brownie points and lgbtq+ friendly it seemed
O. K.
We reserved a table and was sitting in a very nice corner which allowed us to enjoy our meal without being a nuisance to other patrons as we had lots of kids in our group who were quite noisy. The food was great and reasonably priced. Children were all satisfied. Will definitely be visiting again.
g. w.
Very recommended the food was excellent the bar staff was fantastic hope to book up for next year very recommended and local keep up the good work for 2019.
K. W. (.
Food slight dry, slightly shirt staffed. But I would imagine under the right conditions it would be a standard brewers fare
N. Y.
Two meals for £9 total bill £14.
Lovely food ,great service. Would recommend
D. E.
These places are designed to be good at being perfectly average and this is no exception. I'd have put 3 stars but the staff here are actually a prety lovely bunch. What you want is what you get: Hot food, refillable cold drinks and cheap outings all leads to a more than 50% chance they'll see you again soon.
S. F.
Excellent service, the waitress came over before the meal and said there were no peas, but gave me extra chips! LEGEND!
M. S.
We had lunch there yesterday, after seeing a movie. It was a thoroughly delightful experience: we were served promptly and with a smile (under a mask, of course), the food was fresh and tasty, and when we inquired whether tips go to the staff, we were assured that they actually do. Highly recommended!
J. L.
Excellent lunch time service, relaxed atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff, excellent food
L. H.
Nice breakfast plenty of choices from full English to toast muffins and you just help your self
C. B.
Great service and food staff really polite and welcoming. Only downside was tables are sticky and horrible. It was like sitting in a back Street cafe and as the place was near empty their really was no excuse for it not to be clean
C. D.
We visited for breakfast, the food was good, not amazing but also perfectly fine, which is kind of as expected. It took a long time for plates to be cleared off of our table and others but I appreciate there is a shortage in hospitality staff at the moment so may be why.
A. S.
It's "OK". Sometimes service can be a bit slow, food is good but slightly overpriced for what it is....
H. B.
Food last night arrived hot. The salmon was really nice. Returned this morningat 10am for brunch excellent choice of different food
J. T.
Went there for lunch with a mate and his kids. Food was good. I had the Fake and Ale pie. They sell Brew Dog's Lost lager so had a few of them to compliment the pie. Only giving it 3 stars because even though they were lovely and friendly, the staff were slow and not very attentive. It wasn't that busy and there was plenty of staff. No photos of the food because it's 2021 and this isn't Facebook!!
C. D.
Me, My mum and my daughter visited this pub last night for a meal and it was absolutely gorgeous at a bargain price for three of us. I'm looking forward to our next visit.
j. m.
Had Sirloin steak under the Christmas meal. Very tasty whole meal. Yes I would have it again.
E. W.
Food was amazing and quick and staff are so polite
J. W.
Good service friendly team and carvery was very nice
L. G.
Great all upu can eat. Hot food could be replenished faster
J. W.
Staff worked hard, food was good when it came & advised accurately about wait time upon arrival.
Would deffo go back again. :)
They just got caught out by a busy day, lazy day of year 11 for many schools (so under staffed & ran out of some food, but asked what we wanted it swapped for)
E. C.
The food was pretty standard but a reasonable price, the flat bread wasn't great as it was nothing like what was on the menu. It took a while to eat as they forgot our dessert and we waited 45 minutes before getting help
D. P.
1st time i been there & thought food was lovely x
T. W.
The food was nice, the staff were nice and happy, I will definitely be returning.
M. S.
Food was fine but service at the bar was incredibly slow. Not the fault of the young girl behind the bar as she was the only one there to take food orders and serve, for a Sunday you'd have thought that they would have employed another server. Waiter kindly replaced the chips on my plate as they had been served up while I was in the queue for a drink and had gone cold as I was there so long.
K. J.
Expensive been a few times. Food is good but staff can be hit or miss.
a. j.
food coked well disapointed the breakfast wasnt self service as on the web site
D. W.
Sunday roast carvery was good place was nice and staff friendly
s. 2.
We have eaten here many times now as a family. The meals have always been hot, well presented and very tasty. We've never had any problems with anything we've ordered and we've never had to wait very long for a table or our food. If you are thinking of going for a carvery on a Sunday it is advisable to book before hand as some weeks it can get quite busy. Great place for families. Plenty of parking and outside seating is also available.
D. M.
Staff was ran off their feet because of having to do table service. Some staff were clueless about the menu. But we enjoyed been out after lockdown.
P. W.
Extremly good food. Helpful, friendly staff. Adorable deserts. Worth a try, & definately will re visit x
K. D.
Lovely meal. Friendly staff
m. g.
Food very good and very good staff
J. E.
Don't dine here now too many rubbish meals
S. H.
A pub that hits the bare minimum of what's required to function. They have a fantastic menu, but when the food comes out it's disappointingly small portions and low quality food, parts of it are decent, but it's far too seldom for it to be relied upon. That said we went into this with this expectations, and as a result you get what you pay for. The veggie and vegan options are decent, and there are also a decent selection of non-alcoholic beverages. Only problem was that there were a lot less options actually available behind the bar for the latter. Also there was a bit of rudeness from the staff, and casual sexism, not great. It's also the kind of place that has a lot of regular locals sat by the bar, although they keep to themselves it's not always to everyone's taste and can be intimidating. Doesn't effect you in the "restaurant" area though.
a. w.
Very reasonably priced, great food and service
O. P.
Had drinks for a colleague retirement - good service.
R. J.
Went on a Wednesday morning. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food is above average for the price you pay.
R. G.
Called 2 hours prior to book tables for 15, an area was reserved for us. Arrived, area was perfect for us, nice and clean. Advised 30 mins wait on food but all served in 10 mins. Everyone was impressed with their meals, especially as all in combo deals.
Plates were not cleared until we were leaving but this wasn't an issue.
Thanked the staff when leaving..as did all the
adults with autism or learning difficulties in our group which bar staff found endearing.
Will definitely return, suited us perfectly.
R. W.
Food ok but they can only cook a steak rare or well done at lunchtime. So if you like it medium don't bother. Place needs a good clean and beware as they mark tables as reserved to ensure that a couple don't sit on a table of 4 or 6! Food was hot when it arrived and a fair portion .
B. J.
Ya ok but don't ask you if you're food ok
h. s.
Stayed the night next door for a Uni open day today. Went for Breakfast this morning and John, who showed us to our seats, was an excellent host. Very welcoming and friendly. Food was great. Will be back in a couple of weeks for another Uni day stay.
V. M.
Not sure what to expect very quiet served quickly place looking a little tired especially toilets
K. L.
Didn't have the steak I wanted or the chicken. I asked for salad instead of chips and the sides. They removed the chips but left the sides and gave me a very small salad. I was lucky to get a table because I was staying at the hotel next door but they were turning people away because they said they had no tables but there were lots of tables free and not many people came while I was there. They need more staff as the ones that were there seemed run off their feet.
L. B.
Had breakfast here a couple of times during my stay in Bristol. Each time was greeted by warm, friendly and attentive staff who took the time to explain some of the traditional British menu items to this Canadian girl. Food was good; just wish I was able to eat more as the selection and value is great! Overall, will definitely return.
N. B.
could not fault the staff. very friendly and helpful. Food we chose from the menu was nice. My children opted for the 'eat as much as you like'. Unfortunately it seemed a lot of other people opted for this too. They couldn't keep up with demand so not much choice at all and some food cold. Need to keep closer eye on turnover so each item is well stocked up or not offer this on the menu.
L. C.
Had a good and bad experience in one visit tonight. I have used this restaurant many times over the years as a quick convenient way to feed the family. Never go there expecting brilliant food just average pub food. Have always found the staff very polite and helpful. Went tonight for dinner with my 3 year old whilst we were eating I needed a drink and rather than take my boy away from eating his food I politely asked the manager as he passed is it possible to get a drink brought to the table which he cut me short with " we don't do table service for drinks " went to explain my reason for asking but he just walked off. 2 minutes later I asked a waitress if it was possible for a drink and she was more than happy to help explaining that normally they don't but can for different situations. A plus point is the food was tasty and cooked well.
J. G.
Breakfast is served here if you pay for B&B at the premier inn next door.
Day one (Saturday) was great. Quick service and excellent selection of nice food including pancakes, fry up (incl crispy bacon), lots of pastries, fruit - lots of variety and stacks of it. Staff were friendly and efficient. We were very happy. 5* for a lovely b&b brekkie. :)
Day two (Sunday) was so, so disappointing. Waited for 20 minutes to be seated (even though there were several empty tables). No hot food left. No pastries. No pancakes. No fruit. No clean glasses for juice. No clean cups. I finally found a cup but... they had run out of teabags! I had to wash someone else's used bowl and spoon in the hot water at the tea station for my son to eat his cereal - which was sadly the only option. Staff seemed understandably flustered but incapable of multi-tasking. Not happy. 1* for a shocking start to the day. :(
T. S.
Note: I last visited here months ago.
I was here with two other people. It was the Mexican buffet day and so I had exclusively nachos. The nacho cheese was warm and tasty and the salsa was cold and very nice. However, the food that was ordered by the people I went here with was extremely underwhelming and subpar.
A refund after a complaint on the site went through quickly and with ease.
The staff here were extremely nice and the service was great, too bad the same can’t be said for the food.
P. B.
Great food even though there is a limited menu. We booked a table 30 minutes before arriving for lunch. Friendly smiling staff, a very pleasant visit.
D. H.
Food okay, but we had to wait ages and there was only 1 or 2 staff that seemed to know what they were doing! Queues at the bar not acceptable!!!!
I have been going to the Wessex for years but the standard now is well below par....what on earth is going on???? It used to be a nice restaurant where the staff were friendly, the food satisfactory and a very pleasant atmosphere.
When I go out for a meal, I like to be waited on and not have to queue up at a bar for ages, so unless there are some major changes I don't think I will be going again!
Wessex Flyer get it sorted if you don't want to loose your regular customers!!!!!!!!!!
I. B. (.
The place was easy to get to, plenty of parking, found a free clean table, placed the order for 8oz rump steak etc, was served our meals within 30 mins. Food on plate looked abit of a small serving but was actually plenty. Steak was delicious, cooked to perfection! Stall efficient, friendly and attentive.
Will visit again soon.
S. T.
Visited the Wessex flier for breakfast, as we have a number of times. John received us very warmly and looked after us excellently throughout. The food was very good and any waiting was minimal.
A very pleasant experience and worthy of 5 stars. Keep it up John! Many thanks.

I went with a group of five friends for a drink and an early evening meal. I had never been there before.
My first experience there was having wait quite a long time to even order a drink. The girl at the till was very understanding but there was little or no support for her.
Ordering our food at the bar took a while but the same girl at the till was friendly and upbeat. A long queue of customers was forming behind me. The only waitress on duty had taken food to the wrong table for whatever reason.
It was getting busy in the restaurant. My meat pudding, beans, mash and gravy was ok. A bit tasteless overall and it could have been hotter.
A stressed manager appeared and publicly reprimanded the waitress, then went to a table to apologise for something.
I ate my meal but my friends left a lot uneaten especially my friend who had the garlic chicken. It was far too much garlic everywhere on her plate. She left virtually all of it. Another friend's order appeared without specific items he had requested.
Overall this was not a happy experience for our group. We said we wouldn't return there and would not recommend the Brewer's Fayre in Hengrove. A pity because six of us do this every month and we're looking for our Christmas venue. More staff are needed, the manager needs more training but the waitress and bar/till girls were hard working and polite, even upbeat in the face of so much negativity.
J. H.
Had a lovely breakfast here yesterday, was warmly welcomed by John who looked after us throughout. Loads of choice, fruit, cereal, croissant's,fried breakfast. Nice choice of drinks also with fruit juices, and tea and coffee. I thought 8.99 was a little expensive for breakfast but the kids do eat free. Would definitely go back.
j. g.
Family live in bath so we go there for a meal always good food nice staff it's clean and the loo is in a convenient place
D. H.
Good food and nice surroundings. We eat there quite often
F. H. C.
Great family meal. Food was delicious, service was great. Will dine again soon
R. h.
Nice v large pub with outdoor areas. Staff all v young but good. Free refill on the drinks. I had the sweet pot fries which were yum , and the baked cheese which was lovely
P. L.
Just popped in for ice cream as a reward for my granddaughter, coffee for me (honest). Seems a good place to eat with friendly staff and what looks like a good menu. I've not eaten there for a couple of years now but after this visit this might change.
K. S.
Staff require better training Kitchen was lacking flow3 of food causing a long queue
K. S.
Good Sunday carvery, but inconsistencies when ordering from main menu, ie over 30 mins to get n ice cream sundae out. Good pub grub for the price. 2 for £8.99 weekday deal is excellent. Friendly staff, with the exception of one girl, who needs more training on customer service.
d. b.
Gr8 staff
Good food
Will be back soon

We arrived at 2am after flying into Bristol Airport. Slept very well then went for breakfast. We were greeted by John who was extremely welcoming and helpful. He put his all into making our time there as good as possible.
S. B.
Food lovely fresh and hot
Service very good had a lovely family meal very reasonably priced too
N. C.
Just had a lovely breakfast. John was a superb host, showing us to our table and catering for all of our needs. A fab way to start our break away.
F. K.
It was nice and the staf was halp full I wood go there
g. r.
Great food, fantastic service
S. R.
Brilliant waiting staff, gorgeous food and dessert. Only one negative thing, pint of magners almost 4 quid. Overall cost to two mains with a starter and dessert to share under 25 quid though so can't complain.
A. T.
Not a bad place to eat, food was reasonable and staff friendly. A bit too crowded at times
S. P.
Lovely food, lovely service and happy staff. Would really recommend the mixed grill upgraded... Mmmmm mmmmm. It can be a bit pricey, but there are deals if you're on a budget. Easy to get to and lots of parking spaces.
P. H.
A world where you have to have a reservation to go to a pub is not a world I want to live in. The pub is ok and has outdoor space but COVID restriction really take all the fun out of life.
A. W.
Enjoyed a very nice meal here on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was quite quiet. The staff were lovely and we sat by the window so we could watch the world go by as we ate.
M. M.
What a Fabulous Fish and Chips, and Scampi and Chips. The Service was Fabulous . Sam was very helpful and took our booking for Breakfast , She was very friendly and proffesional..weil Wörth a visit .
G. T.
Had a lovely Sunday roast there. Waitress service was very good indeed. Would definately go again.
s.
Food not so good. But staff are friendly and well organised during this pandemic
e. d.
Was in for a few hours for breakfast while my boyfriend was having wisdom teeth out. Lynn was a delight , made me feel comfortable and showed me the ropes on the unlimited breakfast. She's awesome.thanks!
K. H.
Had a brekkie there last Saturday morning with my son and grandson. Good choice of food available ie cereals, cooked breakfast and breads/cakes. We arrived there about 10am and there were few people there but it had filled up lot by the time we had left. Brekkie was over £9 but good value.
P. M.
Had to book in advance even though it was pretty empty, went there a few days later only to eat a dry ass steak and cold chips.
Was nice still but other than the above mentioned.
You never know your experience might be different but I thurally suggest phoning and booking a table
G. W.
Food was ok, but was slightly annoyed by the seating arrangement. All large tables of 6+ had been "reserved". Strange we thought, turns out they do it so groups of 2 and 3 don't sit on them. We were a group of 5 so removed the sign.
K. F.
Very nice meal and drink my first sit in since lockdown finished
Staff very helpful and polite thank you ..
E. B.
Food took a long time to arrive and when I asked a dietary question the gentlemen serving me said he didn't know but was probably in a book somewhere ?? Rather unhelpful. However the children were given activity packs which was nice
w. t.
Average food , not the best but reasonably cheap. Breakfast is brought to you not self service. Location is noisey due to main roads. Good choice for a budget traveler in Bristol. Nearby outlets include KFC, McDonald's, Franky and bennies, pizza
P. N.
Reasonable price friendly service
M. F.
Service was good but food took ages to arrive. They gave free puffs to make up for the slow service. $8.50 for gammon steak was expensive considering how much plate I could see!
G.
Has lunch in here for the 1st time had the decor was nice friendly bar staff waitress full of smiles . Had the ultimate burger meal not a massive meal but well cooked and tasted lovely real meaty juicy burger around 20 mins wait time so not bad overall .
R. W.
First visit - definitely go again.
Only issue is small plates
s. c.
A very welcoming pub the beer is great and great staff will be returning IN the future tho we live 200 miles away
J. K.
Food is good here, but even better are the staff. All very friendly and polite. Not a bad word to say!
M. M.
Nice cooked breakfast.
J. W.
Always had a good meal here, Rachel is such a lovely person, very friendly and funny
P. D.
We held my fathers wake here and the food and service could not be faulted. All staff were polite and helpful.
G. M.
Called for breakfast after seeing friends off on an early flight. Lovely place, clean and welcoming. Excellent food and warm staff, especially our waitress Lynn. Would definitely visit agsin
G. T.
Wait time was accurate. My chicken burger was enormous, tasty too. Unlimited soft and hot drinks are always a plus.
L. H.
We went for a breakfast to celebrate my nephews 16 birthday we had a lovely man called john who was our waiter he made sure we had any thing we wanted and made my nephew fill really special.you dont find many staff like that now a days 💗💗
M. n.
table for 10 people at 19.00 hrs , we were all served good quality meals together by cheerful and helpful staff . thank you for a lovely evening.
E.
Went for breakfast, we'd just missed the rush, so the buffet had recently been restocked. They were a bit short staffed but they were doing their best and were efficient and friendly.
A.
Run of the mill pub grub, sometimes comes out a bit cool but good menu and great service
s. D.
Staff are doing a great job, but mixed messages with signage saying table service only, staff saying sit inside and wait?!
A. W.
Food was really good. The only complaint was that it was really cold , so we had to keep our coats on.
R. H.
Good food. One person on table not served their food until 5 minutes after the others. Not good and apparently common here
J. S.
Fantastic service at breakfast from John. Very accommodating to our dairy allergy. Will 100% return even if just for the service alone.
E. A.
The food was excellent. Good quality. Good table service. Excellent quality for your money.
D. F.
Great food ,Great staff .
4 of us Did not have to wait to long for food
Altogether excellent.
Definitely recommend.
S. T.
Staff are friendly, polite and helpful. Burgers are a little over cooked for my liking. Family always like to go.
T. J.
Nice food ok. But uses to be quite cheap. Prices gone up quality gone down. But staff always friendly and up for a laugh
S. T.
Always been a lovely pub nice beer garden and selection beers
l. h.
love this brewers fayre me my daughter and our 92 yr old betty visit here often food is always fab and so are the staff .. lyn is always wonderful although she is on breakfast shift now we were lucky to see her on thursday 3rd may.we were also served by chaz (cheryl) and laura equally wonderful .. see you soon x
c. c.
nice food but the restaurant was cold staff didn't seem to care
I. M. .. “. C.
I used to like this outlet, but lately its got very slow. The last time we went there we went elsewhere as we waited 20 or so waiting for a drink and shown to a table or to be told if a table was available.
J. p.
Nice all you can eat breakfast, continental and full English. Got there at half ten as they were clearing away, felt a bit rushed, could of been a litter hotter.
A. W.
Pleasant experience, staff are friendly, service was prompt and my food was better than expected for a very reasonable price.
R. P.
Cheap and easy before flying from Bristol airport down the road. Typical chain pub food, fills a hole without breaking the bank.
B. P.
Standard chain place with normal pressures (understaffed and targets for everything). What raises this place is the friendly staff who work really hard to overcome this and always make our visit pleasent.
P. R.
Hygiene needs clearing up a bit but food wise, I love it and so does the family. Quick, cheap and delicious :)
J. C.
Cheap and cheerful pub grub. Excellent covid precautions in place. Friendly welcoming staff.
D. W.
Had the Sunday roast. Turkey and beef were a bit dry but the pork was perfect. Staff were excellent.
d. b.
The restaurant was very clean and tidy, all menus were available, quick at tills, food came in good time.we had the offer two for 8.99 fish and chips x2 everything presented nicely, only problem was my fish was all batter no fish don't know what fish you use or if it come ready battered but was poor sorry to say,but staff change it smoothly and cheerfully.
K. F.
I'm giving this place 5-stars due to personal experience with the restaurant, I've been going there long before it was owned by Brewers Fayre but with their take over, everything just got better, this place has never done me wrong with amazing prices, even better food and last but not least the friendliest of staff.
A. D.
Usually a great place to eat but the last few times we've been unable to get a table.
