Reviews of Vilasa Indian Restaurant
I. R.
Lots of rave reviews so i was expecting something really good. Food was tasty, portions were odd though - some were large and others quite small. Appears that they operate two sittings, that resulted in hovering waiters scoping plates up as soon as you finished and a feeling of being pressured to eat up and vacate the table. Why not operate an open diary, it would make for a more pleasant dining experience.

Really tasty food - a good variation on the standard Indian menu. The food was fresh, and the staff were really friendly. The restaurant was full too, when I went to collect, which is always a good sign! The only slight downside was the hour-long wait to collect our order... But it was a weekend, and that could be normal given how popular it is. We'd definitely use Vilasa again 👍🏽

The food was very nice with an interesting array of options on the menu.
The service, however, was not good. The staff were abrupt and abrasive throughout. And had a very odd reaction when an extra member of our party arrived late. Initially entering as a party of 4, we were only the second lot of diners in the otherwise empty restaurant. A friend that was held up joined us an hour later and we requested if they could join the end of our table. We were told no, as the table next to us was reserved. Fair enough. We therefore asked to move to one of the many empty tables that weren't booked. We were told no. They only offered for the new arrival to be sat on the opposite side of the restaurant, alone. Had it been busy, with all tables booked, I'd have understood, but this was not the case. In fact, when we left, only two other tables were taken (and the one next to ours was not one of them).

Came here for our first restaurant meal after Covid easing because it’s a new restaurant with excellent ratings.
We tried to order take-sways during lockdown but it was very hard to get through on the phone and the lead times when we did were over 2hours, so we didn’t.
It was easy to book a table by phone and had a choice of times.
We came on their second day of opening of the restaurant.
The welcome and customer service was excellent. A very good choice on the menu and Cobra on fraught - great!
We had mixed sharing starters and poppadoms which were excellent. Main courses were very well cooked and tasty.
The only downsides were that when I specifically asked for a medium (rather than mild) curry, I actually received a totally mild dish + the cutlery came out some time after the dishes arrived (rather than [normally] before with the plates).
The bill was £36 per person for 2 courses and drinks, which is okay.
Overall, we will be going back here as our ‘No.1’ Indian in the town based on experience today.

Ate here for the first time last night and will definitely return. It could become my new regular. Good was delicious, generous portions and good value. Very busy with dine-ins and takeaways, always a good sign. Staff were attentive but not pushy and everything about it was excellent.

The Thursday meal deal was a great persuader initially and having taken advantage of iti was glad I did.
The excellent prawn based starter made me wonder if I'd have any room for my butter chicken and onion rice main.
I did it was first class with a lovely coconut butter sauce.
Great value, first class service and food

The best Indian restaurant in town. The food, whether eaten in or taken away, is consistently excellent. The only slight niggle on takeaways is that their estimated timings can be a tad optimistic. Given the quality of the food on its arrival, this is minor and easily forgiven.

Had a takeaway tonight , mix kebab starter, chicken tikka vindaloo, keema naan and masala chips . Absolutely delicious 😋 I guess if I had to pick fault the staff could of been a bit more welcoming but the food was A1.
K. S.
Best Indian restaurant in the area. Prices fair, popular so generally need to book in advance. They also do take-away food.
B. S.
Wow!...didn't think Portishead needed another Indian restaurant....but I was wrong! This place is another level. Spice Aroma and the Gahadi best just close their doors.
Fresh and full of flavour with a great service, let's hope they can keep up the hight standards....well done all at Vilsa

First time eating here at Vilasa. Two adults and a 9 and 12 year old. Really good experience, excellent food and very tasty. Good customer services and a nice clean restaurant. No waiting at all for each course. Staff at hand when your glass is empty. The meat and everything tasted very fresh from the popadoms to the main courses. Kids and adults very happy. Well done and now my families new favourite Indian restaurant. Absolute must to visit if you can!!!
S. T.
Lovely tasty food, great service and nice staff. Clean restaurant! Halal as an option as well. Parking available in site.

Having visited the Mint Room in Clifton last week which was the most overated Indian Restaurant I have ever been to it was good to go into a truly fantastic place which was almost on our door step.
The service was great with the starter and main course coming out fresh, hot and within a reasonable time. The food was probably the best we have had in a long while, so we will definitely be coming back and recommending to friends/family
J. B.
Probably the best curry house in the world!
J. S.
Went on a busy Friday night - no issues at all. Very friendly. Food, drinks and service excellent.
P. D.
Excellent food. Four of us all very happy with what we chose. Most dishes have a vegan option. And the best naan bread I've tasted in years. Food was rather slow in arriving but was worth the wait. This is definitely a place we'll return to. And good prices too. Under £80 for four including drinks.

We decided to try the new Indian restaurant after watching is development during lockdown, and what a treat we had. A friendly welcome, clean spacious restaurant. So much choice available from their extensive menu. The quality and presentation of all the dishes was superb. Fresh, zesty flavours, beautifully cooked resulting in stunning flavours. And if it matters to you, very healthy portion sizes.
Just that little bit different, we loved it and would highly recommend.
J.
Been twice. Fantastic food both times. Tastes a lot more authentic than your average Indian and full of flavour.
Best Indian restaurant in Portishead.
C. S.
My friends and I had a lovely meal here. The food was delicious, great variety and very authentic.
Great choices too for vegetarians.
The staff were very friendly and it was great service.
My only negative feedback would be the decor is a bit bland and brown. Would be nice if it was more colourful and the lighting dimmer.
Highly recomnend this place
K. J.
Last night we ordered a take away and as everyone else has commented the food was lovely, great quality; delicious. Please though I do hope you are going to be able to improve the waiting time. We were fully warned it was a 90 minute wait that could be 120 minutes, which it was. This is a long time for two curries. Is this because of less chefs in the kitchen due spacing currently? I do hope you can do something to improve the time we had to wait please.
T. D.
Excellent Indian restaurant. Great selection of dishes and all really tasty. Good atmosphere and service.
J. P.
Fantastic Indian food for a very reasonable price. Would 100% recommend!
O. L.
They make a great vindaloo, and the staff are very courteous, so a very good experience.
D. F.
Oh my goodness, can't believe I'm so lucky to have this on my doorstep. Was recommended by colleagues in Clevedon. This will be my regular. Delicious food
c. v.
Really good food....prices very reasonable and staff most attentive. Definitely visit again.👍
C. F.
Absolutely outstandingly delicious! Tried for the first time yesterday and it is, without question, the best takeaway / restaurant food I have had in a very very long time!
As a vegan, eating out can be very difficult and boring... NOT ANY MORE 😁
And to top it all off, the staff there were so lovely, chatty, helpful and welcoming.
Can't wait to eat in when the current restrictions are lifted and in the mean time I think I'll be having a few more takeaways for definite 😊
V. C.
Excellent food! We'd have given 5 stars for the tikka salmon alone but everything we ordered was exceptional. Very good first experience of Vilasa and we'll be back - can't wait until we can eat in the restaurant and try some other dishes. Highly recommend a takeaway from Vilasa until they're ready for indoor eating again.
H. D.
Our new favourite Indian restaurant.
Ordered tonight for the first time, absolutely blown away by the quality of food. Huge choice on the menu and we went for a varied selection, a mixture of classics (Mixed Grill / Butter Chicken) and tried some new options (Tandoori Salmon amd Bombay Aloo). We were all so happy with our choices. Cannot fault the food at all. Even the "basic" chips were delicious.
10/10.... We cannot wait for the restaurant to open in May to get the full Vilasa dining experience.
E. B.
An absolutely delicious Indian takeaway serving restaurant quality food. The samosas were so delicate and flavourful, not like your usual super deep fried ones, more like proper homemade ones. The Pilau rice is fluffy and fragrant, the Naan bread is light and fluffy. Chicken in the main dishes is incredibly soft and tender. The curry flavours are out of this world.
All round 5 stars for the quality and service. Will be a repeat customer for a long time
D. F.
We 4 ladies of a certain age arrived on time and were charmingly welcomed by our hosts. Our table by the window was pleasantly distanced from other tables. The comfortable seating helped us to relax and chat. The variety of drinks we asked for were quickly served and our queries about the menu knowledgably answered. To start we ordered poppadoms and pickles. The poppadoms were better than any I had tried and the pickles tasty. I was very happy that the red colouring used in the coconut one did not permanently stain the white linen dress I was wearing when I dropped my knife. My friends chose a variety of items from the menu. My choice was king prawn passanda with a rice and spinach side order. I loved the passanda, creamy without being too rich. The crispy bits of spinach in the rice were just right and both dishes complemented each other. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the food, the relaxed atmosphere and the efficient service.
The facilities were clean and tidy. We'll certainly go there again, more than once. Portishead is enhanced by this new restsurant.
A. S.
Having seen the restaurant in the precinct was pleased to have the menu leaflet in my letterbox. Excellent quality and quantity. I went with other recommendations to try a signature dish. Sultan Bhuna great flavour not as hot as madras but well spiced.
Look forward to when it can open as I prefer to eat out.
Efficient from taking order on phone to delivering
L. B.
The food from this place is incredible - they sometimes run a little late and it's TOO BUSY on weekends but it's worth it when you taste the food. We've tried so many starters (but always stick to the same main) and everything has been fantastic. Can't wait to eat in in person!
P. D.
The decor and service is good..I just don't rate the food that much. Chicken wing starter is pathetic..two of the boniest pieces I have seen, should be embarrassed to serve it. Main course... King prawns with garlic and chilli.. prawns nice, sauce was too gluppy.. not the best!
A. H.
Food was excellent, but service is unacceptable. Advised 1.5 hour wait for collection, arrived on time and still had to wait 45 minutes, during which I was told numerous times that my meal is being cooked or bagged.
Too much focus on taking orders, not enough on fulfilling them!
Update:
We have had a few more takeaways (mid-week) which have been on time and to the same high standard. It sounds like feedback has been taken onboard with regards to long wait times on weekends with pre-order / half hour windows for meals to be ready.
Great work Vilasa team - keep the good food coming!
A. S.
Probably one of the most tasty and superbly cooked takeaway ever. Really great menu and fantastic customer service. Restaurant looks great and can't wait to use but takeaway was stunning. Visit The Port to get your takeaway beer then pick up an amazing curry. Good luck to the young owners. Thank you for choosing Portishead.
S. P.
Very impressed with the food. Unfortunately, on the night we visited there was an unusually high demand for takeaways, or so we were told, which resulted in our main course arriving 1 hour and twenty minutes after ordering.
Was a bit surprised and annoyed that we did not have priority over takeaways. Can only assume Vilasa are reluctant to turnaway business even if it inconveniences their diners.
b. c.
Excellent one of the best Indian Takeaways/Restaurants. The Food was 10/10 I have eaten Indian food every where I rate this as one of the best. We were told about the deliver might be late but heh great food is worth waiting for, Still came piping hot. Highly recommended. Many thanks Bob Chapman.
S. O.
Fantastic food, really lovely spacious restaurant and fabulous staff. We had a take away during lockdown but decided to eat in tonight - we were the only ones there but the takeaway side was busy.
I had a South Indian garlic chilli chicken - it was amazing - really tasty and left me with that lovely tingly feeling in my mouth. My husband had the sultan Bhuna - recommended by the staff - and it was far superior to a standard chicken bhuna and he really enjoyed it.He had a tikka naan with cheese which was like an Indian pizza! A great and unusual side!
An incredibly enjoyable meal and we will most certainly be back and hope that they continue to go from strength to strength as they certainly deserve to do well.
T. W.
Outstanding! We have ordered twice, and both have been the best curry we've ever eaten. The shatkora is delicious. Both times it has arrived on time, piping hot and everyone we have spoken to has been passionate about the food and service. Will be ordering many more times!
R. K.
Such amazing staff at this restaurant, they’re always super friendly and helpful. The only reason I put 4 stars is because the taste is made to British tastebuds. It could be so much better with authentic Indian foods. The biryani was good but missing some authentic Indian dishes on the menu.
M. P.
A lovely experience at the new restaurant. Have had many takeaways since they’ve been open and always been great - the dining in experience didn’t disappoint. A friendly welcome and great food. Thoroughly recommend.
L. S.
No matter how good the food is the ability for them to handle being popular is poor and very off-putting. If the wait time is 30 mins longer for every takeaway then just have that as standard in the website. Don't keep people waiting, heard half a dozen people with the same issue as they turned up. It's not good service and actually and I would probably in future go to a different and get slightly loeer quality food and get a better and consistent service.
P. S.
Arranged night out for a large group of work colleagues and all found both the food and service excellent, nothing was too much trouble and would highly recommended. Best in Portishead by far!! Rihad is a credit to the team! Amazing service from him and the rest of the team!
K. K.
Food is so delicious. Unlike a lot of places, the delivered food maintains the high quality of the restaurant. They accommodated all dietary requirements enthusiastically. Just excellent service- can't praise strongly enough!
1.
The food here is beyond GREAT! The owner & staff are really friendly & the customer service is excellent! The chef is born & raised in Asia so the food is authentic as well as tasting great!! Definitely one to visit if you're in the area, even if you're not I recommend you travel the extra mile. Make sure you don't miss out!! 5/5

Decided to try this new restaurant in Portishead today after reading so many positive reviews. It did not disappoint. Fantastic food, great depth of flavour, freshness and originality. Worth the wait. Vilasa has won over the food critic in me. Thank you. Looking forward to my next takeaway. Lubna.
M. A.
Lovely takeaway at Vilasa this evening - we know how busy it was, slight delay on my collection but definitely worth the wait. We really enjoyed it, the staff were attentive and helpful. Great addition to Portishead! We’ll definitely be returning.
P. A.
Tried this place based on a recommendation and can’t explain how happy I am. Outstanding food and service.
The lady at the till named Wasima was really polite and took time out to explain some of the dishes. Really lovely experience overall. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
J. L.
Well this is officially my favourite Indian takeaway! First time ordering yesterday and we enjoyed it very much! Full of flavour and meat. I asked for a really hot dish and they even made my meal with their extra hot chef special sauce... and i definitely recommend if you like it hot! As for the keema nan... FINALLY a keema nan with meat in!! Not the scroogy portion in the middle, it was all the way around.. delicious!!! Very friendly staff, and more than happy to help with requests! Vilasa is officially our only Indian we will be using in future, none of the others compare in Portishead..FACT!
P. S.
First visit, won't be the last. Food was excellent. The waiting staff may need a bit more training though. Passing hot plates for customers to pass along is not ideal.
N. F.
Great food, portions just right, Staff all friendly and eager to please, highly recommended
J. P. C.
Cannot believe that Portishead has been so lucky to get this restaurant! We keep going back - the flavours are just marvellous - clean, fresh, different. My favourite is a starter Chicken Chaat with a puri, generous enough to be a main. Food is faultless - reminds me of my first experience of eating 'Indian' food in Birmingham City centre in the late 60s. Thanks to all the team for a fabulous culinary experience!
P. G.
Food excellent, tasty and more than sufficient. On the down side service was slow and the interior door to the ladies toilet was not yet in place
As newly open may be these problems can be resolved. Good parking
D. B.
First of all, I opted for collection and was amazed by how stylish the interior of the restaurant was! Extremely well designed and can't wait for indoor dining to be allowed, I would definitely recommend trying this place after Lockdown ends! Very friendly gentlemen served me. I went for Chicken Tikka Masala and would honestly say it was the best dish I have had in a long time! Some very tasty Onion Bajjis too! Certainly going to buy from Vilasa again.
m. r.
Delicious. Maybe a little hotter than I usually have.
Spotlessly clean. Good value for money. Will definitely buy again and eat in.
D. N.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Can’t wait till we order again! Fast and efficient delivery. Food was still lovely and hot and full of flavour 🙌🏽 They have now gained new customers as will continue to recommend. Also the lady who took the order over the phone was lovely and we all know good customer service goes along way.
E. T.
Had been meaning to try for a while and finally bit the bullet.... My my my was I not disappointed, Best mixed grill I have ever had and my parter also said the tandoori salmon was too die for! Service was fantastic and the website was super easy to order from- Can't wait to be able to come for a sit in meal 😊

went in after work on the Saturday of their first full weekend of opening, it was busy but to be expected, the service was great they the staff were all extremely helpful and knowledgable, the food was delicious and tasty, had a glance around the resteraunt area (currently closed due to government restrictions) and it looked very nicely layed out, very comfortable and inviting, i will certainly be returning once restrictions are lifted for a sit down meal but until then i will return for takeaway,
