Reviews of Wilson's Restaurant
A. T.
One of the best food experience we ever had! Locally sourced produce and beautiful cooked by the chef, who suggests one unique and seasonal menu. The service is amazing, the two waiters who served us are pros and made sure we had the best time possible. Thank you!
I. B.
By far the best mussels I've ever tried. Wilson's has a special menu every time you go, you get super fresh ingredients all arranged and cooked for that evening.
We got served a range of food including bread, mussels, mackerel and pheasant. All with local ingredients, I can't do the dishes justice but hope the pictures can help with that.
The superb quality of food and deliciousness was accompanied with the best dining experience I've had. Very friendly staff who continuously make sure customers are having the best service possible.
Thank you the team at Wilson's!
10/10

We had such a lovely evening here, I would be happy to come back. We were served a brilliant 7 course menu. Everything comes from their garden or locally sourced. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, very good wine pairings, we will remember this night for a while.
T. D.
Not only was the food amazing but the staff were so friendly too! They went out of their way to prepare separate dishes to accommodate my pregnancy and my husband's allergies. We were made to feel so special. I can't wait to visit again!

Wow. Heard so many great things, so our expectations were very high. But I’m delighted to say that they were exceeded. An exceptional lunch. Brilliant staff, including the chefs that came to the table. My new favourite place to eat in the city. Can’t wait to come back.

Literally my favourite restaurant in Bristol. And maybe anywhere. The care taken is absolutely something else, and it’s incredible every time we come here. Jan has created a beautiful menu and absolutely makes sure that every dish is created with such wonder and deliciousness. An excellent experience with everyone from the wine paring from Jake to the service and cooking from his exemplary team. I would happily eat here every week! Thank you!

Wilson's is a fantastic little restaurant. Their booking system is very easy to use and they send you a confirmation of your booking so you can remember to put it in your calendar, it definitely is not worth missing! Their food and service are exquisite. The accommodating staff have a very good knowledge of the food and detail the components of each course which really adds a special touch. They handled my partners nut allergy very well and informed us there were nuts in the kitchen. I love how Wilsons respects their ingredients (as well as their customers and staff) and are well deserving of their green Michelin star.

Amazing meal and incredible wine pairing at this stripped back restaurant that prioritises flavour above all else. Really unique and fresh and would love to go again. Service great too, the staff were super knowledgeable and couldn't do enough to help.
C. P.
This is one the best restaurants I have been to in the UK in a couple of years. We drove down from London for a culinary delight after reading about this place. Jan was a fantastic head of house, his team were professional, super friendly, and the food was exceptional. A great relaxed environment to enjoy high quality local produce served beautifully. Jan you are a legend. Thank you all so much.
A. B.
Amazing experience. Really friendly and attentive staff. Incredible food and perfect wine pairings.
D. C.
Unique dining experience. Waiting staff was extremely attentive and welcoming to questions about the dishes. Loved the ambiance and the small business feel.
A. S.
Simply the best restaurant experience I've had in many, if not all, my years. Already organising the return trip with family and friends. Thanks to the whole Wilson's team for a great experience and delight. Looking forward to the next time.

I cannot believe how amazing Wilsons was! The food was just masterful, some of the best I’ve ever had, but what really sets Wilson’s apart is the excellent team their, the most passionate, friendly, lovely people- you can really tell that they love their job, they’re in the top of their game and they provide the best service of any restaurant ever. I cannot wait to go back.
Faultless.

A gem on our doorstep; imaginative delicious food, relaxed intelligent and attentive service. A wonderful 6 course Saturday lunch enjoyed today.

An absolute must if you live in Bristol or are visiting… it is worth coming to visit Bristol just to eat here. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere is relaxed and fun, the service is spot on and they make you feel so welcome and at home. Super easy to book through the online system too.

A group of 5 of us for a birthday celebration and a good choice too. We were told it would be different and it didn't disappoint. The menu consisted of 6 tasting courses, all were very light (not a bad thing) and we left feeling full but not stuffed. Each of us had a different favourite and least liked course, mine were the lobster bisque and mouselline. All washed down with a very acceptable white wine from Romania, well chosen by the sommelier. All food grown locally very fresh ingredients. At around £400 all in we thought it worth the price and would visit again. Small, intimate venue with a good atmosphere when full. Friendly and helpful staff added to the experience. Well done Wilsons.
T. F.
An exquisite meal with a beautiful accompanying wine flight. The staff are brilliant. This place just gets better and better. It is simply one of the best restaurants for miles around
J. D.
Having been recommended on several occasions we finally managed to
get a table at Wilson’s. We had a throughly good time, every small detail from the service to the food was spot on. We’ll certainly be back soon
T. M.
Will continue to return to this place, what a gem. Had been stalking Wilsons on Instagram for years before I finally got the chance to go last year, it is expensive but more than worth it - extremely satisfying. The staff are knowledgeable, the music is great and the ethics behind the place are inspirational. I tell anyone who will listen about Wilson’s and will keep on returning at any excuse. Thanks for having me!
A. B.
Awesome! Great menu and a very nice experience! Can highly recommend!
J. H.
Had a great 6 course lunch there, every dish had a taste of green and fresh herbs which I could not explain well enough. So refreshing for a boiling hot day. Highly recommended 👌.
K. B.
Superb birthday celebration.. amazing mackerel dish which I'd return just for that! Friendly staff and incredible flavours. Great value tasting menu with complimentary pre-starters. Loved it!
G. I.
The best meal I've had in any restaurant, ever. How on earth you can create food that tastes that amazing is beyond me. We were warmly welcomed, the service was 11/10, every dish from. The tasting menu was explained as it was given, always with a smile. I cannot emphasise enough how highly I would recommend anyone to book and go.
J. S.
Incredible food - we had the tasting menu which was without a doubt one of the best meals of my life.
The food is simple yet powerful - try this fantastic little gem before it becomes too mainstream and its soul is lost!
y. y.
love the mushroom puff, shrimp soup and pumpkin dessert. the former two are free. mains are also tasty but the portion are not generous. anyway, these dishes are enough to make me full.
M. A.
More than just a great meal, it's an experience! The atmosphere and setting is brilliant, the food amazing. The food was superb, and the fact you get to finish off cooking it to your taste, is fun. Defo recommend going here. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed...
L. L.
Brilliant food, beautifully presented. We went for the 7 course tasting menu along with the wine flight, which cost a lot less than I was expecting. Service was informative, clear and prompt.
J. M.
One of the best meals I've had for a long time. The dishes are well balanced fresh and seasonal. Locality of ingredients seems key and the flavours spot on. Have the wine pairing they are great choices that enhance the dish
L. S.
The best meal out I've had all year! Really delicious food and all served beautifully by friendly staff. I love to enjoy food that is unexpected and it is such good value at £50 for the amount of food we had.
B.
Had a brilliant evening at Wilson's. The staff were all very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Each course was delicious and interesting. Paired up with some beautiful wine. Definitely recommend.
J. P.
I was disappointed with this restaurant when three of us had dinner last Thursday. All the reviews were positive. I knew that there would be three choices, one meat, one fish and a vegetarian option. However the fish main course also contained duck offal. When we got there the menu said hake but when we ordered this had changed to cod. The portion was very small and although it was cooked well it didn't have a lot of flavour. The starter of mackerel was ok but not special. My pudding was unpleasant with strange textures. The rhubarb souffle was much better. We were told that we had the table for the evening and then after we had finished our pudding we were told it was booked. My friend is vegetarian and she had told the waiter but she was given a fish boullabaise with the bread. Attention to detail is poor and it as not worth the money at £60 each.
K. A.
We had such a beautiful meal here this evening. The staff were brilliant (yet relaxed), food was delicious with fantastic wine recommendations. Everything locally sourced (loads from their farm) and the owner was so passionate.
G. E.
A truly lovely evening of impeccable food and friendly, relaxed service - even plates as simple as the sourdough and butter were delicious!
S. B.
Second time here and still my favourite place to eat. Nothing compares.
J. W.
Fantastic experience at Wilson's. The staff are incredibly dedicated to ensuring you understand exactly how local and handmade the food is, and as for the food itself...wow! Each dish was not only delicious, but unique, exciting, and unexpected. Ate some things I'd never have expected to without anything being "too weird" - edible flowers were a real revelation. All in all, a very special meal in a lovely, welcoming setting
J. H. T. S. B. B.
A great experience and well worth a visit. Some delicious foods, prepared with care and attention.
K. J.
Thank you so much for a lovely evening yesterday. Fantastic food and service!
w. h.
Top restaurant in Bristol. No pretentious. All about the wine and food. Can’t wait to return
c.
Their menu is very well curated and uses excellent ingredents in a complimentary (and sometimes unsual!) way.
The attention to detail and level of service overall was a splendid example of how a restaurant should be run.
Yes...we really enjoyed our meal here!!
T. B.
No pictures are required. My experience was my own, and it was incredible. I am still smiling as I write this review.
All I need to say is this - I had one of the most stunning food experiences of my life at this restaurant.
Book a table, experience it for yourself.
D. B.
Excellent local bistro. Food is outstanding in a super simple setting. Three courses with wine and service was £75 each.
S. J.
Lovely meal with the wife, amazing chef and staff and every course was superb!!!
C. C.
Grateful for the mind blowing epic food and remarkable service. One of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time.
P. T.
Had an amazing meal here last night, simply incredible food and an amazing front of house. Definitely my favourite restaurant in Bristol.
M.
Nice tasting menu for 40£ (some photos of dishes missing).
L. W.
The best food I've eaten in Bristol!
M. R.
Fabulous tasting menu, v expensive but worth it. Very good service.
J. G.
Went here today. I have an intolerance to any of the onion family. They have a set menu that included onion tart and leeks. Despite this they accommodated me, changing onion to carrots in the tart and serving other of the dishes without the onion family ingredients and in one case a totally different dish of courgette and tomato(sourced from their own farm) in a delicate broth. The gently smoked mackerel was absolutely delicious.
My first restaurant outing since March and I just hope that now I've taken the plunge other restaurants will do as well but Wilsons have set a very high standard.
I. G.
Quite simply the best food I've eaten in a long time. Freshly picked ingredients from thr chef's farm (who not only cooks, but also waiters as needed) coming together like little I've had before. One dish was just extraordinary...a barbecued oyster on a stake with a cold herb soup (the taste of dill was sensational. Wilson's has a great set of waitrons who are charming and attentive. Truly fantastic experience. But book early or be disappointed. Thanks Wilson's team what a night Stephane and I loved it
W. T.
Phenomenal. No need to say more. Go as soon as you can
J. C.
Fantastic food, great staff, a lovely experience. Good value too!
O. A.
The best experience ever. Also I would like to say the all staff were amazing in special Mary. She was incredible . Thank you for the amazing time .
S. G.
A casual but polished dining experience. The staff are friendly and personable and the food is creative without being overly fussy.
Their ethos on sustainability shines through their menu selections.
You can choose from a short or long tasting menu, with wine pairings available.
g. j.
Best meal I've had all year - and I eat well. Truly lovely food, great service, fabulous chef
M. E.
Amazing food and service; so glad they are back, just look at that menu!
J. F.
A very satisfactory visit. The small room was full but not over-crowded and there was a relaxed and happy buzz of conversation. The menu, whilst limited, covered a lot of ground and the mushrooms which abounded were simply delicious. Service was friendly and attentive and we were made to feel welcome. This restaurant faces stiff local competition but is up amongst the very best. It was not cheap but we felt we had received good value for money.
L. J.
Absolutely fantastic. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff. The cherry soufflé was the best sweet I have had in any restaurant ever. The lobster was incredible and as for the mushroom custard tart? No descriptive adjective would do it justice! Will be back!
E.
One of my favourite restaurants in Bristol. Atmosphere is really nice and relaxed with food that packs a real flavour punch. Great nose to tail cooking, with everything on offer being treated with the utmost respect and love. A very special place indeed.
D. V.
7 courses menu was very good... very good flavours and combinaison of ingredients!
However, the table was booked only for 2 hours, which means that we had to rush to finish each dish, some plates were taken away while someone still had mouthful of food...
The bill was brought on the table and we were asked to leave not having finished our wine or being able to order coffee & tea.
2 hours is certainly enough for the 4 courses menu but there should be a way to book the table for longer if you decide to go for the 7courses.
Not the ideal place to catchup with friends, as your main focus must be to eat, hoping to finish on time.... disappointing !
P. R.
Is it better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all? It won't be long before Jan and the amazing staff at Wilson's get the huge recognition they deserve, the place gets booked months in advance, and I can no longer visit my favorite next door restaurant without serious advance planning and budgeting. When those days come I will cherish memories of the simplicity, amazingly delicious great value food, wonderfully unpretentious and simple surroundings, and seasonal changing menu. Till then, I'm going to go as often as I can. Writing this I feel I'm nailing my own coffin. Ar*e
R. M.
Chris looked after us for the evening and the service was fantastic. We opted for the 8 course taster menu and we weren’t disappointed. I was dubious that the portions would be small on the main menu so we opted for the taster. Every part of the meal was beautiful to look at , great to eat , and served by knowledge pleasant young people
H. S.
Recently had a private party at Wilsons for a birthday. The restaurant were super accommodating for our large group. The night was amazing, with a chilled party atmosphere, great wine and fantastic food! Would definitely recommend and will be revisiting very soon. A great place for Bristol.
G. H.
Had the new 7 course tasting menu recently (£50) and I have to say it's one of the best meals I've ever had anywhere and Jan is clearly passionate about what he does. Every single member of staff were clearly of the same mindset too and we can't wait to go back.
J. G.
Amazing service, I'm vegetarian and everyone made sure that all the courses on the taster menu were delicately and expertly made catering to my requirement.
The food was delicious, fresh and served with great care.
Excellent!

Cliche I know, but I don’t normally do this... however, after my second visit to Wilson’s I felt compelled to give them the 5 star review that this team deserve. Both visits have been a different yet equally mouth watering/awe inspiring experience. The food is literally out of this world, and the wine is dangerously delicious. The warm and modest head chef Jan along with his lovely front of house team make you feel as if you’ve been coming years, and for years I intend to come.

Nightmare.
So many people have written such glowing reviews about Wilsons that I felt compelled to try it out. I've given this restaurant a fair few chances now and every time I've eaten there I've been disappointed. As I finish my meal I wish that I'd been able to eat everybody else's as well. You can sit down blindfold, stick a pin in the menu and be utterly delighted with what arrives (l dream at night about the orange and mackerel soup). The wine menu is excellent and reasonable priced.
I know what's going to happen. Jan, Wilsons extremely personable chef and his excellent staff are going to get a Michelin star whether they like it or not, probably two.
He'll move into swanky premises, the astoundingly good value menu will double in price and I'll never be able to afford his cooking again. It's a nightmare.
R. S.
Went to Wilson's on Wednesday night. This was my partner and I's first experience of a tasting menu. Although we've had many good meals out before, we tend to generally eat a bit cheaper when we go out and were a bit anxious about the prices when we made the reservation. Looking back on the evening, this was actually the best food experience I've had anywhere in the world.
I highly recommend the tasting menu. Almost as soon as we had ordered the food started arriving, canapes of fresh oysters (Amazing. my first ever), buttermilk fried rabbit, mushroom and Cornish cheese tartlets, Starters of tomatoes and elder flower, BBQ quail, and cabbage wrapped lobster, it went on and on. Plate after plate of perfectly cooked, intensely flavorsome and beautiful dishes. The atmosphere is so relaxed, all you have to do is sit back and just try things. Like being taken on a journey of creativity and flavour.
We left completely satisfied, discussing the flavours and various dishes for the rest of the night. We can't wait to try more tasting menus, and will be definitely back to Wilsons again.
E. B.
Lively buzzing atmosphere, informal but efficient service, fantastic organic wines, and the food....just perfect! A daily blackboard menu with a choice of just 3-4 dishes per course, much of it organic, home-grown and seasonal. Imaginative cooking with a contemporary twist. The best restaurant meal I have had for years.
S. M.
Be careful: your fellow diners will want to try your dish, and you won’t want to share any of it. Delicious British food done thoughtfully and with grace. You could be forgiven for expecting a large bill as the quality is so good, but it’s well priced.
Book a table before they become too popular, move venue and lose the cosy atmosphere.
L. B.
Outstanding! Yan the Chef and co-owner previously worked with Gordon Ramsay. Dishes are creative and beautifully presented. Great value for terrific cuisine . I think this ranks as one of the best dinning experiences in Bristol.
J. C.
Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. A really pleasant evening.
B. T.
This is THE best meal I have had since the Fat Duck some 10 years ago. Exquisite. Jan, the owner chef, totally cares about his ingredients, food, menu and your enjoyment of it. He is a mastercraftsman. Michelin stars are surely headed his way. The 3x3x3 menu is inspired but does mean you should dine á trios so you can taste them all. And to top it all, it is very reasonable about £50 per head with wine. I would give it 6 stars if I could.
G. E.
We were there on one of the coldest evenings of the year and were sat near the door, it was very cold. Having said that we found the menu very interesting and unusual and were delighted with our choices. The food was very good and the staff very helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes and the very different selection of wines. Make sure you visit Wilsons especially when the snow goes it's worth it.
I. F.
Really liked the enthusiasm, the food quality, friendly service and variety of each of the tasting dishes. First class. We'll be back. Loved our long lunch there there together with friends. 🥰
T. K.
What a lovely meal. Only had lunch but it was delicious and service was very attentive. Interesting menu with vegetarian options alongside game and fish. Chef provided a few little amuse bouch which were very tasty. It's not cheap but not ridiculous either given the quality of the food. Whilst the food is very interesting and well presented it's not excessively rich. We'll be back soon
G. N.
This is a small restaurant with, inevitably, a limited menu. The waiting staff are charming and the atmosphere relaxed if physically a bit chilly. Whilst the soufle desert was delicious, the main course was so small and over seasoned that I was left hungry and couldn't wait to get home to eat something. There is no choice of different coffees, though there is an extensive wine list.
Still, after saying all this it is good to have a restaurant in Bristol that is prepared to experiment with some different taste combinations. Just wish I had asked for more bread to fill myself up and I am not a big eater! Under the circumstances, I thought it was rather expensive.
S. B.
One of my favourite restaurant. Great quality food and service. We went for the 8 course tasting menu and we are very happy with choices. Friendly staff . Great customer service. Will be back soon.
G. J.
Amazing food. Had the tasting menu, the mushroom tart topped with cheese and the rare duck breast were top of the list but it was all delicious.
J. H.
An incredible gastro journey. My girlfriend and I were fortunate enough to have Wilson's recommended to us from a friend whilst we were staying the long weekend in Clifton. On arrival we were welcomed to a small, yet quaint, restaurant. Tables near enough to one another to create a great atmosphere but not too near that you were sliding your bums along each others tables whilst going to the loo / leaving. We decided on the taster menu and had the sommelier choose us an amazing Chenin Blanc - thank you! The food was incredible, each dish astounding us more than the previous. The service, quality, value and overall dining experience we had at Wilson's was some of the best we've ever had. A thoroughly enjoyable ode to what was a gorgeous long weekend away in Clifton. Many thanks to all those at Wilson's and the head chef for creating an array of food delights.
M. H.
Delicious, well thought-out dishes. Warm and inviting ambience. Excellent service. Consistently good. Small team delivering big! Fantastic addition to Chandos Road and the wider Bristol food scene.
R. V.
We felt very welcome and our taste buds were dancing with the orgasmic culinary wizardry of Jan and his team.😉 Fiona took care of us with the finest attention to detail. You must try the Jersey Royals and Morels starter. Very moreish!!🍄🍽️👍
b. c.
Our favourite restaurant in Bristol. Great food and great service!
W. S.
Wonderful. I like nothing more than a small menu. So happy to see this kind of place on chandos road.
Precise and flavourful with some nice additions. Salted cod croquette amuse bouche was lovely. 3 courses sing together and left feeling perfectly full. Thanks!!
J. M.
Very creative menu, very friendly service.
R. T.
Delicious delicate dishes, decorated beautifully by foraged flowers. Wonderfully welcoming and light ambience, and a small team who are as curious about their customers as we are about them! A pleasure to eat there: we'll be back!
E. L.
We have been to Wilsons five times since it opened three years ago.It is my choice of spe ial occasion restaurant. The restaurant has always been special and the food beyond belief, however last nights visit was the best yet!
The service is now to the same outstanding level of the food.Unpretentious, focused care for each table with people who clearly are as passionate as the chefs about the food.Dont change a thing!!
Why you dont have a Mitchelin star is beyond me!!
L. R.
Excellent food, wine and service. Original menu, everything hot and fresh with incredible flavours. We have eaten here several times, can't recommend enough.
S. C.
We had a fantastic meal here today. The staff were welcoming and friendly and so good to my grandson. A great experience and stupendous food. Thank you.
K. T.
Delicious, quality food. Imaginative dishes beautifully presented. Unpretentious. Reasonably priced for what you get. Will definitely return next time we're in Bristol.
S. S.
A really delightful experience. Just 3 choices for each course but when the food is this good, any of the options would be fine by me. Beautifully balanced, imaginative and delicious. A great addition to the Bristol scene.
a. m.
The best restaurant I've been to in Bristol by a long way. Have visited a couple of times now and the food is always on point
T. D.
Superb lunch - we both loved it all. Really good friendly and attentive service and food prepared with expert attention to detail and the right combination of flavours. Will be back...
A. F. G.
Excellent food; almost sublime, save for some repetition in flavours and occasional faux pas (crab shell in crabmeat). Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Very highly recommended and reasonably priced for the quality on offer.
L. W.
I can honestly say that Wilson’s serves the best food I’ve ever eaten. I’m a discerning customer (ok fussy cow) who often finds that top class restaurant fare doesn’t live up to the hype but within Wilson’s humble walls I’ve found a gem. Delicious food, the warmest service and an ambience I want to recreate in my own home. What more could you want? I’ve endevoured to visit Wilson’s whenever I posssibly can and perhaps even take the train from London just to guarantee an evening well spent.
T. B.
Excellent in all respects. Been several times and always impressed. Dishes are creative and staff very approachable. Only a matter of time for a star.
L. F.
After walking out of Wilkes in despair at the arrogant service and unaccommodating kitchen, we stumbled across this gem. What a contrast. Relaxed but attentive service and delicious unpretentious food. Thank you guys for turning around our afternoon.
L. G.
Such a fabulous find! Incredible to have such warm, friendly and relaxed service with knock-out delicious food. Would wholeheartedly recommend! Thanks all at Wilsons, and thanks to Jay Rayner for sharing your recommendation.
f. p.
Had a great meal out here. The owner / head chef went above and beyond to make it a great experience. Would recommend.

Great short menu featuring fantastic seasonal produce, done really interesting dishes to try. Service has been great every time I've been there too.
L. p.
Amazing food, excellent service, lovely setting. Would love to come back!
G. B.
Exceeded our high expectations.
Highly highly recommended.
Order anything, it's all fantastic.
Budget £50 per person for 3 course and a drink.
B. K.
Fantastic food. Lovely staff. £50 for the 7 course tasting menu is good value.
b. e.
I actually loved their dishes and customer service, great area nearby to where I live. The cashiers are always very nice. Will come back again.
A. F.
I really enjoyed my lunch. Friendly staff and very nice food. At a first glance it may look expensive, but it was all worthy. Highly recommended.
G. R. M.
Fabulous. Skill and sensitivity in abundance, married to an enthusiasm for flavour and process that matches my own. Jan is an absolute star!
S. m.
Loved it. Wondeful food and great service.
K. M.
Inventive, beautifully realised menu. Friendly, efficient service from staff who understand their ingredients. As for the wine list - superb.
R. G.
Lovely, small restaurant. Fantastic and inventive food. Friendly service with appropriate social distancing measures.
S. G.
Not cheap, but a well thought out menu with unusual dishes made with quality ingredients. We were treated to a very kind personal service to accommodate special dietary requirements.
R. C.
Amazing place, lovely staff. Taste sensation on the taster menu which my wife and I really enjoyed as a 10th anniversary treat.
A. D.
Amazing taster menu and wine flight . If I could give it 6 stars I would
R. E.
Just amazing. Not a bad mouthful. Reasonably priced. Good well priced wine list. Can’t say much more than that

Excellent food and wine. I love the limited, seasonal menu. Will definitely be back.
