J. V.Great friendly atmosphere & staff, clean and and lovely decor. Not forgetting the best part, the food, it was 10/10. Had 3 different meals & all were amazingly tasty. Good choice of pudding. Definitely will return soon.
Y. A.Unusual never heard if this place before, super busy, was worth the wait. The food was very delicious, a fusion, burst of different kinds of flavours. The portions were fairly big too, the food was outstanding, but the music was a little too loud for the comfort of the evening, but the place looked good. I do think they need to have more branches in London, They only have 6 in total so let's hope they expand. Their staff were so friendly, the food was unique. Looking for another opportunity for a second visit.

The drink that Asma prepared was very refreshing and nice better than any fizzy drinks. Never tried any refreshing drink like this before.
Recommend this place definitely go back again just for refreshing new drink food was amazing.
A. V.It is my anniversay meal and my first time in Cardiff in about 10 years, i driven from Weston Super Mare after seing the reviews online.
Very warm welcome and convenient parking.
We brought our baby and Todler with us and got offered a seating position convenient to us and high chairs for the Baby and Todler.
Mr Yawn was very energetic and constantly smiling.
The food was absolutely on the dot and hygeine was geat along with the great presentation.
I love how they incoperated the use of the "bodna" in the toilet which is an amazing touch of multi culture use.
There is disabled accessibilty and baby changing facility also so what more could anyone ask for.

F. H.It was very nice restaurant. The wait time was hardly 10-15 mins. It was fresh and I could tell that there was taste. The place is very convenient and has bit of outdoor with windows and indoor seating. It was impressively clean. Music was loud which on my request they lowered volume. Menu has number of choices to select from. Halal, clean and quick serve I mean what else do you want? And above all, it was the best value. Portion sizes were large and delicious. Boys named Robert and Luko were rather professional, polite and welcoming. Overall best experience and definitely recommended.
J. T.Went for the "cheese all the way" Great meal but jollof rice is not how we make it in West Africa but still it was good! Only thing I'd say for this meal is to get rid of the banana and use plantain !! This would suit the meal better! I'll rate the meal 10/10
I. C. V.Waiting time was 20 minutes which is adequate for a starter. However having the starters at the table and the drinks after (25 minutes for 2 cocktails) is not desirable if I am being honest.
After we nearly finished our starter sharing platter we had 2 empty plates brought at the table. Plates that we supposed to have at the beginning so that we can take food from the sharing platter and set it in on them(our eating plate- wrong move again lol).
Moreover, desert was dry and very much defrosted before serving.
Ambiance was spot on though and food was delicious.
N. M.Been to Afrikana on a few occasions and each time my experience has been amazing, from the quality of the food to the friendly staff and just the whole experience as a whole. The atmosphere was amazing and would highly recommend, especially the lamb chops!

A.This was on my top list of halal restaurants to eat in while our visit to south of Wales, and luckily it was the best, we were not aware that we have to prebook as it was new year’s eve, but once the receptionist knew that we can’t wait and we came from another city, she arranged a table for us for one hour max which was plenty of time for us. It’s kind of Nando’s in London, but much more delicious and different options (including fish and meat), a bit expensive but worth every penny, prices has increased so the menu here is not updated, we were a couple and a toddler, we ordered a shared platter on the picture £36 I guess, but we couldn’t finish it despite I’m a good eater, big portions and tasty food, we have been served quickly and the waiter was very nice and helpful, moderne design with nice African atmosphere. I would recommend it and can’t wait to visit their branch in London, I hope they open more branches in centrale/west London.

M. S.Having read other peoples reviews and having never visited the restaurant before we were definitely not disappointed. The food is AMAZING and I would highly recommend Ethiopian Sea. The service from the outset was amazing too from the friendly greeting from dark haired lady at the door who seated us (think it was Malia) to our amazing waitress Kelsey who deserves a gold star for customer service. We regularly eat out and this fabulous young lady could not have been more approachable helpful, professional and courteous. She is a credit to the establishment. The restaurant atmosphere itself is lovely and inviting too and also the restaurant very clean. We will definitely be visiting again to try more of the flavoursome menu and to be treated like royalty. If we could give 10 stars we would. Thank you all and see you soon.

M. C.Really great food and service! Can't recommend this place enough. I called to make and change a booking quite a few times due to my group size changing and they were very helpful and sorted it all out for me. When we arrived, service was excellent, quick and friendly. A varied menu with many options. One of our group was gluten free so a waitress came and offered her advice and recommendations to find the perfect meal for her. I got chicken wings and they were delicious. Really good value and staff were happy to help us split up the bill between our large group. Will definitely be returning!

A.Got the ethiopian sea platter. Chicken was really moist and had good amount of spice to it. Steak and chops were nice. Prawns were really crispy and crunchy and the sauce on it was great.

s. I.After reading the many good reviews, thought would give it a try. The overall experience was ok but we weren't wowed. We were sat immediately upon arrival. Food arrived after about 20 minutes of waiting.
Food is relatively high priced for what I was expecting , I ordered a dish with rice that tasted like it was reheated & ready made, I also got a beef burger that tasted bland it was full of fat and had less meat content. We did not finish our food due to this.
Overall the experience was ok and I think it was just one of those days that things just didn't turn out as great for us. Will not be going back again.

S.Booked this for my husband's birthday and when I turned up they said I hadn't made a booking. I showed them that I had received a return call from their restaurant on the day of the booking as I wanted to add another person on. They did eventually seat us and the food was really nice. When leaving a comment was made about in future making sure I booked a table which irritated me as I was made to feel like the mistake was on my part and not theirs. All in all though they did sort out the issue, the food was good and I will be returning but may just ask them to text me to confirm bookings in the future 😊

The 2 guys that we were served by were brilliant - a young Asian lad and a geezer with glasses, great guys. They were really busy when we were there so they gave us a free starter for the wait. Highly recommended, very surprised why I haven't heard of Afrikana.

I have been Served by Asma a few times who recommended us our food options which was the goat curry. After having it once I’ve had it every time I went back since, the portion sizes are also so generous. Asma is always a delight and ensures we are checked on and comfortable - her service is always a pleasure.

M.Food not bad but chicken breast tasted a bit chemically and Afrikana rice was not nice because it's cheap rice. Deco inside was nice and so was bathroom. Couldn't book a table because apparently you can't book for two people, so when we did turn up she couldn't give estimated but said it's only 4 tables so should be quick waited an hour. Staff were ok as well. Food was out quick.

m.We arranged to visit with our dad who is African and thought it would be a nice treat for him. We were led to believe by the name of the restaurant than it was African cuisine. Very misleading title and was a little disappointed by the lack of culinary research. We had difficulty parking anywhere nearby which resulted in our table being given away, never the less they found us a small table for 5 of us to squeeze on to.
That’s not to say the food wasn’t good, it was actually very nice but it wasn’t really ‘on brand’. Limited drink menus and no alcoholic options - but the staff were nice enough. I’d say it was more like a turtle bay/Nando’s type Of eatery. I’d score it a 6/10 . I’d Probably come back once it’s found it’s feet but I think it needs a bit of space to grow.

U. “. -.The food was fantastic and the service got better as we got through the evening. But being told there was an hour wait and you can't book if it's not 6 or more is odd. You should change that policy. Anyways flavours on that chicken were all there. It's defo up there with your nandos and all. People gonna be thinking hows he comparing this to nandos, but if you eat flavours on a daily basis and you season your food you'll understand.
Anyways we eventually got a better table than being seated at the entrance on a table of 4 which was made to accommodate 5. Lastly, make your mocktail bigger, like just a suggestion.
Hopefully these improvements can take place in the near future.

Definitely one of the best restaurants in Cardiff, the vibe and decor is exceptional. You will not be disappointed, can’t wait to visit again soon!

The service to table was slow, the server's were helpful and friendly. 3 of us had the fried chicken totally uninspiring and dry the "peas" and rice turned out to be red kidney beans although the plantain was nice. They also garnish a lot with coriander leaf, not everyone likes coriander.

I also noticed and found it nice to see the staff where from all sorts of backgrounds and ethnicities.
Overall a good meal and great value we will certainly be going back, fantastic food and service, would highly recommend.

S. U.My friend's and I had booked a table on a Saturday night in time to break our fast for Ramadan. Due to unforseen circumstances, we had arrived 30 minutes late to the booking, and assumed we would be turned away. But instead the table was still held for us, and although being late meant we couldn't eat in time for Iftaar, they made sure we had enough water and dates for the time being, and were very understanding for our reasons for being late.
The restaurant's outdoor setting was very comfortable considering they had large fire heaters to keep us warm, and even provided us with fresh blankets. The staff were very kind, accomodating, and so easy to talk to - very friendly; we gladly gave tips and would do again.
The food was amazing, just what we needed after fasting all day. We ordered the starter platters, and then the Boneless platter and the Kenya platter for our mains. The Mac n Cheese side was high reccommended so we ordered it too and it was definitely worth the small extra cost. We had the mocktails too, all worth the cost and aesthetically pleasing to look at too. There was a small mix-up with the wrong sides being given but the staff were amazing with fixing the situation, in letting us keep the wrong sides as well as bringing the sides we ordered straight away.
All in all a great night. We will definitely be coming again In Sha Allah.

I ended up leaving my full faith in Asmaa (my waitress) to make my order as I wasn’t so sure on what to probably have. In the end Asmaa came back with my order which turned out to be an absolute DELIGHT !! She ended up picking ‘Thats What she said’ for me which was so rich in flavour, and also a very generous portion !
Asmaa ensured that I had the best dining in experience and would definitely be going back to visit Afrikana in the very near future only because of her !

A. D.The food is delicious, full of flavour and the portions are fairly decent so good value for money. I stuck to the chicken which was perfectly cooked. Word of warning their food is HOT. As someone whos used to hot food i almost struggled with the Medium hot so pick your flavour if you order chicken wisely.
There is also a lot to choose from on the menu but not many veggie dishes if youre vegetarian.
The decor is great and the music adds to the atmosphere and ambiance makes you feel youre in a London restaurant not Cardiff.
The negatives are not sure how much is authentic to the name Afrikana.
The card machine wasnt working for two days in a row. The first day my friend transfered the money to the manager after insisting theyre not gping to go and get cash out which is fair enough and the second day i had to go to the cashpoint to get money out myself ( i didnt want to argue) as they still hadnt sorted the wifi out nor hadthey announced this to us when we arrived. Big faux par. its 2021 who carries cash around these days ?
Also the staff are mostly young and inexperineced while polite the guy, when i handed him the cash from the cashpoint assumed i was giving a 4.50 tip when i was waiting for my change! I'm not going to tip if i have to go to the cashpoint and certainly not £4.50 anyway !
If these creases were ironed out i dont think it would be too hard to obtain a 5* score

It’s been a long time since I enjoyed a meal as much as I did today. The food was lovely and the flavours unique opposed to the regular peri peri you get everywhere now. H. O.Ordered takeaway of 3 chicken wings very hot which on their menu states £5.95 with regular side of your choice,salad garnish and homemade coleslaw. Instead I was charged for my side of chilli broccoli which was flavourless and did not get the salad garnish or the coleslaw.
They did not have cutlery for takeaway.
3 stars purely for tasty wings.
A. B.I wish i could give more than 5 stars, this place is a breath of fresh air. The food is delicious, healthy, fresh and outstanding, its oozing with flavour and well presented. The staff were amazing and really friendly and attentive. Guys you seriously got to try this place, take your families and enjoy the authentic african experience.

One thing I will say is the customer service is on point. Seriously 5 stars for that alone. They close at 11 but me and a few friends didn't realise this. However not once did they tell us to leave theyre closed or anything of the such. Felt quite bad when we realised they were closed and waited for us patiently. TOP CUSTOMER SERVICE right there!

A. K.Dark and cold, bring a coat.. Lucky we were seated inside and not on the glassed over pavement. Definitely nothing African about this place, just chicken and a few things.. All quite sweet and not hot enough.. On the starters menu the only thing that was nice was the Mac & Cheese, the rest is tasteless rice, the Afrikana fries were just fries with teeny weeny bit of Peri Peri salt. Also the waiting staff take your plates and food away whilst your still eating, management just want you in and out, definitely not worth the money as you're not getting value. An over priced Nandos I would say, and you get better sauces at Nandos.

Stop asking if the food is okay 10 times before we even started eating pls and thank you. Also, stop watching over people as they eat and give some privacy would be very much appreciated. Staff need training as they are CLUELESS.
