Nice local Pontcanna restaurant, with interesting menu. Stand outs were pidgeon (served very rare) and poussin dishes and a gruyure and bacon mash. Do a good corkage deal (need to ask in advance). Not cheap, but a good place to go for a celebratory meal.

Had the New Year's tasting menu and was divine .. food was world class and enjoyed every dish.. venue was quirky with a very relaxing atmosphere..

Having read so many great reviews of Bullys I'm pleased to say it didn't disappoint. It has a really nice atmosphere, attentive and friendly service and delicious food. I had fish based courses, the husband meat based and it was all beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Good value for money for quality too. Would definitely go back next time I'm in Cardiff

A great little place in Cardiff.
The staff were very attentive, and the food was delicious, my husband who always has fish when we go out branded his fish main as the best cook bit of fish he has ever had at a restaurant. The chocolate dessert was rich and balanced out well with the really salty caramel sauce.
Would definitely return

A great place for a romantic night or fun night with friends. Truly personable service from people with a passion for food.

Five of us went last night 2/4 the food was incredible the service impeccable and the surrounding great. I had the steak tartare which was beautifully prepared and had a freshness’s that You only get in a high end restaurant. The lamb main melted in the mouth and the flavours were lush. Dessert was icing on the cake - can’t wait to try their new spring menu

I am really not sure why it has taken me so long to try this amazing restaurant, but now I am angry with myself for waiting so long. A true sublime dining experience. My recommendation is to allow the knowledgable staff to choose the wine for each course, which can be served in half bottle carafes if required.
S. C.
Nice wine menu. I did enjoy my food. Service was a little slow. Food was slightly pricey for what it is.

A delightful restaurant, away from the centre, but not too far. Food is superb. You can tell they enjoy their craft. Staff were friendly and the service perfect.
S. J.
We had the 3 course lunch for £21 - such incredible value for money! Honestly some of the best food we had in Cardiff! All three courses were delicious and beautifully flavoured, as well as generous portion sizes. Highly recommend - the staff are really lovely too!

The food 3.5. Service 5. The food at times was less flavorful than you’d expect from the appearance of the dish. For Cardiff, I’m not sure you’ll find better, but compared to a major city, I was underwhelmed with the food. The food also felt really heavy - I don’t usually feel heavy after French food. But I suppose this is a British French fusion. I’d probably return here if I was in the neighborhood, but I would be careful on what I’m ordering. (I didn’t like any of the appetizers and I tried all 4). The place itself is really cozy and unique!

A good experience, nice decor and set-up, once you're in you do forget that you're somewhere in Cardiff and it takes you in a small restaurant from France. The food was very good, ham hock starter with a beautiful scotch egg was very well put together with the pickled veggies, worked excelent. Nice pork belly and duck, good wine, loved the nutty ice-cream, had a side of fries which I think it was the only pre-made food out of them all an you could taste and see that, soaked in oil. Could do with some chairs a bit more comfortable. All in all a very nice place with excelent food and good atmosphere.

I have visited Bullys at least several times a year for special occasions birthdays anniversaries et cetera. Whenever friends come to visit from away I immediately book a table, they are so accommodating and really friendly. They have an amazing selection of wine and the food is exceptional, it is wonderful, there is no way I can describe it as anything other than delectable.
The recent modifications to the actual restaurant are so beautiful and in keeping with the original vibe, a kind of boho vintage glam which I love.
Seating is now much more comfortable than it had been before and I really just love the colours in the restaurant which make me feel quite chilled out.
It’s really perfect for date night’s and special occasions and you can also eat fantastic lunch there.
Panfried Foie Gras is stunning. This is one of the few places that you can get this in South Wales. 👌🏼😍

Delicious food and presentation was on point. Lovely service and nice friendly staff. Very cute interior.
G. Y.
We've had all starters and main dishes. Only salmon appetizer and mackerel main dish are very delicious. The rest is just okay. Would only come back for their fish.
D. T.
Cosy restaurant with quirky decor. Staff were friendly and food tasty. Prices above average, but quality of food was good and cooked well.
G. W.
Fabulous lunch with friends, great service and delicious food 😋

Absolutely amazing place to eat, it should be your 1st choice for any special occasion. Russell the owner, is more like a host welcoming you to his home than his place of business. He will guide you through the menu with his exceptional wit and knowledge. If you need to order wine then you are in his safe hands. The food is amazing and the decor truly eclectic. A proper treat.

I absolutely loved this restaurant. It almost felt like I'd stepped out of Wales and onto the continent.
This place has been put together meticulously and with much love and passion. The ambience is just right for a relaxed and very comfortable dining experience. The staff were very attentive... just turn around and someone is there to help with your request or question. Food too was very tasty and well presented.
I may try and find an excuse to come back to Cardiff just to come here for again 😅

Lovely restaurant with great food- went here for my birthday meal. Does cost a fair bit which is expected for good quality food but the portions were slightly too small. Smashed a glass but the staff were really nice about it.
P. W.
Came as part of a large group. Wonderful experience, beautiful food. Real flair in terms of hosting the group, and the quality of the dishes. Good wine selection.
A. B.
Very friendly staff. Good atmosphere. Food was ok, but over very priced. Looking at the menu and the high value ingredients you would assume great flavour, but the dishes lacked depth and dimension. A saving grace was the amuse bouche which was warmly spiced and a real treat. But nice place mats.
O. J.
Always a pleasure dining at Bully’s - the team are great and food is fantastic!
R. E.
Lovely restaurant serving a small but fantastic selection of mouthwatering meals with attention to detail. Very accommodating for people with food allergies. Friendly staff and a welcoming relaxing atmosphere. Always have a lovely meal here.

Had a lovely afternoon, felt we were in France due to the ambiance created by the decor and music, food wonderful, service excellent!

What a great find, a real gem. Food is to die for. Small concise menu that really gives you a bang for your buck! If you find yourself within 50 miles of this place then make a detour, you will not be disappointed.
M. C.
Totally unimposing from the outside, a hidden gem. Those who know how to appreciate good food will enjoy Bullys.
M. M.
Food is amazing, but price/quality*quantity ratio could be better
L. T.
Amazing food, great and kind service, lovely ambient, cool music, intimate atmosphere, distinctive decoration, relaxed mood. Hidden gem in a residential area. A must go place.
M. H.
Fabulous lunch, beatifully presented and wonderful service. An absolute treat every time. Thank you Bully's.
D. W.
Vegans are an after though… will go back when they actually add vegan food to the menu…
S. P.
Wonderful, wonderful lunch from their mix and match menu, £12 for 3 dishes and a glass of something lovely. The pork belly in particular was perfectly cooked, tender and not overly fatty. Service wonderful, ingredients fresh, pannacota to die for. Can't wait to go back!!
C. F.
Nice meal, but seriously overpriced. I had the crab and salmon starter and my wife had the scallops. My starter was so small that I could have eaten it in one mouthful (no exaggeration). This was nouvelle cuisine at its smallest! It tasted nice, but I didn't have enough to really tell. The scallops were beautifully cooked, but they had more than a touch of Thai flavour, which overwhelmed them.
My wife had the fillet steak and I had the lamb chops. The steak was superb, but the lamb was undercooked. I love it pink, but this was bright red and, therefore, it was chewy and the fat was not rendered enough.
Desserts were excellent. A chocolate mousse and a tonka bean panna cotta.
We also had a bottle of Prosecco.
The bill came to £144, which was about £50 too much for what we had. I would have expected a big thank you when we left, but that didn't come! Clearly, they have become too used to people paying too much for their dinner!!!
We will not be returning.

It was so good to eventually get to Bullys. We originally booked for Christmas 2020 but were delayed by the second lockdown. Todays lunch was the first time for us as a family to eat together in a resturant since all this lockdown nonsense started and we couldnt think of a better place to have visited. Lovely food, great wines and great staff. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

An amazing Sunday Beef Roast. Melted in my mouth. Cooked to my taste. Great atmosphere and friendly efficient service. Highly recommended!
J. B.
Amazing food and excellent service, one of the places we always visit every time we are in Cardiff and it has always been exceptional
p. w.
Fantastic food, really nice relaxed atmosphere and not at all pretentious.
Food wise, the quality could easily have commanded a 50%+ increase in price. I would have been happy paying £12+ for both starter and dessert when they were both listed for £8. Wine was cheap for the quality too.
Staff were great, reaching a nice mix of attentive/interactive whilst picking their moments well.
100% would go again
J. M.
Wonderful flavours, well cooked cuisine

This restaurant is an absolute gem of a place, as soon as you step in there is always a warm welcome. The food is incredible especially the lobster bisque and the wine list is very impressive. I am so glad that there is such a gastronomic delight in Cardiff. Diolch, mae'r lle yma yn anhygoel ac mae pawb yn lyfli.
J. B.
This is a lovely restaurant! The food is exquisite and top quality as is the service. My wife has a serious nut allergy and the staff went out of their way to make sure the food was suitable. Highly recommended!
J. D.
Wonderful atmosphere and really good food. Nice wine. Excellent staff
A. C.
We visited on a Saturday night. It was a great, relaxed vibe with friendly staff. The food was unexpectedly underwhelming though given the other positive reviews. The lamb was very salty, enough to make my tongue burn. The pork belly starter was also quite underwhelming in my opinion. The soup amuse-bouche was quite tasty though.
C. S.
Good traditional home cooked feel, taste, ambiance. After walking all day we were quick to eat rather than take photos of our tasty meals! The desserts were incredible too. We had the lamb, duck, rice pudding, a valrhona dessert, and an apple pastry.
D. B.
Took my parents there for my Dad's 70th birthday. We not only had a stunning lunch, the hosts were amazing with great advice on the wines which were delicious and perfect accompaniments to the meal. I would return in a flash, and the food was some of the best I have had in a while. They seem to change the wine and food menu regularly which is always a good sign of a place run with passion.
L. J.
Great ambiance and amazing staff and great wine selection, but the food just wasnt for me. The salmon was raw (which wasnt stated on the menu) and the lamb was way under cooked for me but some people like it like that. I would recommend if that's the kind of food you like

Friendly, fun and finesse
We reserved the restaurant in its entirety for a private event. Everyone had a fabulous time. They accomodated all requirements; arranged the room beautifully; and were meticulous in every aspect. The food was truly excellent, and was uniformly of the very highest quality. 42 fillets of beef were cooked to perfection; served at the same time, and all food was both seasonal, local, and beautifully presented. All the courses complemented each other, and were served at a comfortable pace by a team who were so welcoming, friendly, and engaging. All in all, faultless, and memorable.
S. M.
Absolutely exquisite restaurant. Menu and service are second to none. Good place to go if you want to be impressed!!!

Was really looking forward to going here after reading the reviews. I’m afraid it’s completely over rated. The staff were very nice and the odd furniture and decor is quirky but I’m afraid the food is average at best. The scallops and the foie gras starter both lacked flavour and the apricot and Sauternes purée was overpowering. My chicken main course was at most Luke warm while the halibut was nice but over priced. 2 requests and a 10 minute wait for ice rounded off our disappointing dinner.
F. M.
Lovely food, staff were friendly and attentive, good wine list and lovely decor/acoustics! Feels small and personal without being too 'in your face'. Only quibble would be it is a little bit on the pricey side, however not enough to put me off - will definitely go again!
C. H.
Local and lovely. We spoke for a long time with the owner who was clearly passionate about in season, local and high quality produce and it showed. The food was stunning.
C.
Fabulous independent restaurant with great food! There with family of 12 for Sunday lunch. Really accommodating and knowledgeable on their dishes when informed about dietary requirements; enjoyed by all ranging for those in their 70s to hungry young people 😁

My absolute favourite restaurant in Cardiff. Have been going since they were a small room over a pub in Llandough, ten years ago.
Russ is a unique owner with a great restaurant that keeps improving.

I have been to Bullys a few times, their delicious changing seasonal menu along with fantastic friendly service always calls me back. I would highly recomend the restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious sit down dinner in Cardiff, something that has become rare these days with, what seems to be, a mass take over of overrated poorly run chains.
The passion the owner and his staff have is second to none and very tasty exciting food combinations.
In fact I’m in Cardiff next week for a short time so will be in.
Highly recommend!
P. W.
Sadly not as good as I'd expected reading previous reviews. Food was faultless whilst nothing special. House wine was good. Be mindful of tipping as a service charge is also applied.

I have visited Bully's on a few occasions, mostly for Sunday lunch - which is the best in the city, in my opinion. The sea bass is a beautiful dish too. The staff are attentive and friendly, and the setting is so comfortable, I almost forget where I am and hate to leave.

2nd time we’ve been to Bully’s and we had a really lovely meal for my wife’s birthday. A free glass of fizz on arrival and lovely dishes. We’ll certainly be back again! Thank you 😊

Excellent food, nice decor, friendly but discreet staff. On the gastro side. The first place I found in Cardiff to have red Zinfandel wine.
R. M.
Always magical. The last time we went we were lucky enough to meet the owner. He was truly an artist. He and his team have created something that is above and beyond. Don't rob yourself on missing out on an opportunity to eat here.
