I was really lucky to walk in and manage to get a table without booking. It was pretty packed when I left. I was given a table by the kitchen area where I could see the live view of the chefs cooking our dishes. The restaurant is based in a chapel converted. Really feeling the coziness in the restaurant and romantic for sure in the evening. Food was superb. really enjoyed the scallop pork belly starter although I could see the dish was served in different presentation for other tables - guess the head chef is trying to get the best presentation of that dish. The steak was alright, really rich sauce to go well with the steak. The lamb was lovely cooked, juicy and tender medium rare 😋. Didn’t go with dessert as I was full but my overall experience here was fantastic!! Please do book this place for any celebration or romantic dinner.

A true gem restaurant in Cardiff!! Beautiful venue with huge history transferred into amazing restaurant. Made a booking with my partner to celebrate our anniversary while visiting Cardiff. Couldn’t choose better!! Welcoming staff, great service and delicious food, congrats to all team! Truly impressive experience, massive thank you to all Chapel team, looking forward to our next visit ❤️ highly recommended for a date night or even night out with friends as they have DJs/ house music in late hours so you can enjoy weekend vibes and have some fun after amazing dinner 😊 cheers!

From cocktails to food, one of the great spots in Cardiff that should be part of your experience. Very fun for a group of friends or something special for someone you love. Ask to have dinner in one of the original chapel confessionals.

The place is amazing, you can feel the history and sort of "mysyery" in every single corner. The food itself is one of the best I've eaten so far in UK. The Chapel will take u in the journey full of excitement straight to haven.

Very interesting building, stunning deco great place to visit for drinks or food, starter I had seared scallops with chroizo. Main Pan fried chicken supreme both were delicious 😋

The venue itself is really nice, and has a really nice atmosphere. I went there and ordered the steak so I immediately began to compare it to Miller and Carter as they are essentially the same price. Honestly, it was nice, but I've never left M&C feeling like it wasn't worth the money, but this time I did. The meal was pretty bare bones, and although the steak was cooked well, it was pretty fatty and I had to cut around a lot of it (didnt get to chose the cut, it was rib eye or '8oz' on pre order, i went for the mystery meat). I also ordered the same comparable wine and it was more expensive, at £9 for a large glass. Don't get me wrong, it is a really nice place, I just found it overpriced for what it was.

An opulent setting for this the most special time of the year. To all those uninitiated in the Chapel ways, visit and enjoy.

The starter was a burrata with tomato sauce. I am not a big fan of the uncooked tomato sauce and it was reaffirmed during the dinner... But the big issue was the steak, I asked for a rear steak and it arrived extra cooked. I understand that we were on a group event so few people and orders to manage but I was expecting definitely more from them. The wine was good though which has uplifted a bit the score

Me and my husband went here for our 10th anniversary and they didn't disappoint. The staff were brilliant and the food was excellent. Would highly recommend.

Nice setting and atmosphere. Food was mostly fine, but just that, fine. I had the ribeye steak and have had better steaks in Cardiff city centre for less money. My partner had Burrata and said it was a bit "tangy", probably on the edge of being ok and so left half of it.
We also had an issue with the bill, one of the items was £9 on the menu but £13.50 on the bill, although this was rectified when we pointed it out.
All on all it's not a bad place, but we felt a little underwhelmed given Chapel's stature and reputation (and price tag!).

The restaurant preserves the structure of a old Chapel, which gives it a unique atmosphere, with many cozy corners and large interior balconies. The food was excellent in its taste and presentation. The attention was outstanding from the very beginning to the end. Definitely a place to share a romantic dinner or with friends. Located in the center of Cardiff. It is absolutely a "must visit".

Went for lunch in one if the booths.
Best to book ad it can be busy and only got 3 booths as well!
Refit very tastefully done with most of the original features as well.
Good selection on the menu and wine. Everything is done very well. You are looked after by the staff room start to finish.
In the city centre at the bottom of Churchill Way. Very easy to get to and only a couple of mins walk to the St David 2 shopping centre.
Well worth a visit. This was our first time for a Birthday treat.
Will be going again soon.

Myself and my partner were visiting for my birthday weekend and came to this lovely restaurant for dinner while staying at the ibis hotel across the road. We had a drink in the bar downstairs before dinner. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and we were seated quickly in a private booth upstairs. The tables were all laid beautifully and it is very classy and quiet. You are able to see the kitchen from the restaurant as it is open to watch the talented chefs cook your meal. The food was incredible and the service was amazing. I will definitely visit again next time I'm in the area!

Came here to try a higher class of dining on a student budget, so booked and ordered from the bar menu. Was quite busy with people coming and going mainly for a drink (Monday night). Staff were friendly enough, although there was no drinks menu which made ordering at the bar quite awkward. Food came quickly, and tasted great, but was maybe a smaller portion than I would have liked for the money - probably due to the level of cooking in fairness... Some slight confusion (that came across as reluctance) when using a voucher code, but overall really lovely food with decent service and a ln interesting location.

I had the privilege to be invited to a exclusive menu tasting for their new autumn/winter menu which has just launch . As soon as I got their there was cocktail on arrival and the guests and myself were taken to our seats .The service and food was top quality something out of a Michelin restaurant .if you are planning to go anywhere for fine dining try this place first above any other first.🙌🏾👍🏾

First time I'd been there and would certinately go again Food was freshly cooked and well presented.
N. D.
I had a rump steak in the bar/lounge area. Great quality for the cost and nicely cooked to my order of medium rare. The restaurant offers a more formal dining experience but the bar menu offers standard gastro pub fare at a reasonable cost in a relaxed atmosphere.

What a beautiful building! Food and drinks were absolutely stunning and the staff were very helpful and attentive. Well worth a visit if in Cardiff!

My partner took me here for my birthday meal, he had reserved us a cuddle booth which was so lovely (it appears to be an old confession box). When we were seated they greeted us with bread and balsamic dip. The waiter was very helpful with his recommendation about how to have the venison cooked (as I'd never had it before). We thought the food was amazing. Our starters were scallops and chorizo skewer and sweet potato with chilli and rosemary soup, for mains my partner had a steak and I had venison with root vegetables. Personally, I was full after the main course but my partner ordered the trio of chocolate for dessert, and the waiter brought two spoons in case I changed my mind, which I did once I saw it. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the environment was very festive (due to Christmas) and the food was delicious. I would definitely visit again.

We were a party of 9, five of whom are vegetarian. We chose this restaurant based on the good number of veggie options they had on their menu online. We paid £45 in deposit and on arrival they did not have enough seats laid for our group. It turned out that on Sunday they only run their Sunday roast menu which is stated nowhere on their website, that I can find. This menu has 5 meat options and only 1 veggie option which contains nuts. Extremely disappointing.
The food that we had was lovely and the staff were nice but the service was very slow despite the fact that the restaurant was far from capacity. We all had a main course and only 4 people had dessert, and the experience took about 3 hours total, with long wait for the food both times. The desserts and coffee took especially long and the desserts were tasty but lukewarm.
For such an expensive place, it was a disappointing experience and I would be very hesitant to return again.

We booked a late dinner for two on a wet Thursday night in Cardiff. We had a good seat near the corner but with great views across the restaurant. We coveted the small romantic booths which is definitely the seat to go for next time.
Our waiter was quick to bring the menus before disappearing to look after others. The menu was not huge but all of the food sounded great and looked wonderful as it came out to other tables.
It took over half an hour for our starters to arrive. They were delicious and worth the wait - lightly curried Scallops and delicate fish pate with a tangy tomato chutney.
We ordered wine by the glass which was limited our choices but offered great value.
After the starters things started to go wrong. The waiting staff could see we were concerned about the lack of main course after a good half an hour, reassuring us it was just coming.
They returned to confirm it had been cooked. Just delivered to a different table. So our Medium Steak, and Hake without Chorizo had been handed to someone else. WHAT?
Profuse apologies and the offer to cover our wine bill were accepted. No suggestion of a bread basket or anything to assuage our hunger though.
When the food did arrive it was great, well cooked Steak with peppercorn sauce for me and the Pan roasted fillet of sea trout, sautéed diced potatoes without chorizo for her. The fish had been done to perfection with a crispy skin really adding to the dish.
We asked for Fresh Mint Tea but got a mint tea bag, which is not the same.
The total bill, even with the drinks included (they didn’t take off) was just over £100 which I think is fair value.
I was annoyed that the service charge was left on the bill and not to my discretion after some major muck ups in the service (did I mention they gave our dinner to someone else?)
Overall, this is a good restaurant working towards a great restaurant. We will book again in the hope this was just an off night.
PS - checking the loos a bit more often would also help.
P. R.
Really nice setting and the food was delicious. Love the fact they cook in front of you. Friendly staff too.
P. S.
There for a retirement party and the separate area downstairs was well managed for drinks and food, staff were helpful and friendly. The separate restaurant serves good fare but booking is essential

From walking through the door in to this impressive building you are greeted with a warm welcoming smile. We were early for our meal, so we were seated in the bar area to enjoy a drink whilst waiting to go upstairs to our table. All the staff are so friendly and happy! The food was absolutely divine. It was so enjoyable each course left you wanting more! If your in the area, please try it for yourself.

Fantastic service and great wine. Very little choice for vegans, but lovely atmosphere

Great food good service lovely surroundings, would definitely recommend.

We thought we'd try out Sunday lunch, as I'd seen it on the Internet and thought it would be a wonderful setting for our wedding. But unfortunately first impressions last and the impression we got was not acceptable. We had to stand and wait until someone even spoke to us, even though the waiting staff knew we were standing there. There were only 2 vegetarian starters on offer, but for mains there were more. We are both carnivores, so we decided to have extras with the main course instead. The mains were nice, but unfortunately not very warm, I even had to take the jus back because it was warm at best. The veg was exactly the same but luckily the meat and piggies were hot. We did enjoy our meal, but it's quite disgusting when you have an open kitchen and the chef is rubbing back his hair, he did wash his hands after, but wear a hat!
Overall we found the staff mediocre, and the food would have been nice had it been hot, but we won't be back, as not one person asked if we enjoyed our meal!
R. L. P.
A gorgeous building with original features of the Chapel inside. Soup of the day (Leek and potato) was delicious, more vegan options needed here. We had the nut roast which was very dry. A great location as very near to the centre, bar downstairs and dining on the upper levels. Friendly staff.
T. C.
Highly recommend this restaurant and bar. Have visited a couple of times now and each time deservedly given five stars.
Food is great and staff is very friendly. The restaurant is cosy and have nice quirky booths if you want a quiet area for a meal for two.
Recommended and will visit again.
J. B.
Great bar & atmosphere. Really nice historic building. Highly recommend
M. B.
Nice meal but not much on the plate and a hidden service charge 33 pound on the bill
M. J.
Great place, great atmosphere, great food and also great customers.. on the rugby weekend Wales Vs Italy I met there many priests, several monks and also two Popes!!!
G. S.
Lovely building & unusual, atmospheric setting for a restaurant. Good menu & wine choices. Unfortunately, there was confusion that caused our order to be forgotten. However, the problem was handled professionally by the helpful & friendly staff, so our dining experience wasn't spoiled. The food was tasty & reasonable value, though I wouldn't describe it as fine dining.
I. M.
The price was ok, the location was nice but the construction next door was distracting. Overall it was fine, staff were really friendly and the food was ok.

Lovely bar and restaurant sited inside a beautiful converted chapel. Staff on site were friendly, and worked hard to meet demand. Cocktail menu was a tad limited but the drinks they did have were nice, although not the best. Did not have food so unable to review this aspect.
S. L.
Great, tasty Sunday lunch. Our server was very efficient and happy to help.
S. D.
Very scrumptious food but not alot of choice, especially for vegetarians . Also, when I booked online, the reservation wasn't shown on their system . They did however accommodate us. The setting of the Chapel was very nice and unique. Excellent chef!
B. H.
Looked after us very well. Food was lovely. Thank you
S. G.
Fantastic bar with amazing service. I had my work leaving do at the Chapel last weekend. On a Saturday night with about 2 hours notice the front of house was able to organise 3-4 tables for what was 20+ guests and they looked after us the entire night!!!
Everyone enjoyed themselves massively, can’t thank the staff enough.
Highly recommended

Very tasty enjoyable meal good value for money with great service .

Very nice food great service upstairs and down

Our friend bought us voucher as wedding gift. Amazing venue with amazing food.
L. H.
The food is absolutely fantastic here. The only negative is that there's not much food on the plate if you're hungry. I'd recommend going for three courses but be prepared to pay, this place is very expensive.

Our 1st Christmas in Wales and had a great Xmas dinner at The Chapel 1877. Would definitely recommend 👌

Beautiful interior but not cheap to eat and very selective menu worth going in for a drink to view interior

Very good ambience was there for couple of drinks but it was good.

Excellent food and service, my bestie enjoyed his birthday with really good quality food with an acceptable price range, will come again

Great restaurant. Sat at table next to the pass which was great . Watched Chef Matt deliver every plate with care & precision & unlike TV chefs, Matt was very organised and methodical through the whole service. Calmness personified. Excellent Meals.

Great food. We ordered Scollops as starter which was amazing. Lamb rump and Sirloin as main courses. Both where amazing, cooked as we wished. Friendly staff and great ambience. And very nice passionfriut martini.

Beautiful surrounding .Great drinks. Varied menu. Very busy when I visited. Helpful and friendly. Will definitely return.

Lovely food, well presented. Friendly and efficient service. Clean facilities. Loved the atmosphere.

Great steak, Staff very friendly and atmosphere very enchanting!

Had a lovely evening we went there for our anniversary amazing food wonderful staff. Would definitely go again with family loved the setting and interior impressive building.

Only stopped for a drink. Still a lovely place to relax. Food smelt wonderful and pre lockdown it was. Can't comment as didn't eat this time but will soon
R. P.
My first visit. I was very impressed with the decor and atmosphere. Staff were very efficient and friendly. My three course meal was reasonably good, without being memorable. The lamb was lacking in flavour and the American cheesecake was small and slightly dried-up/wilted.
K. P.
Decent food. Room temperature was pretty nippy
K. C.
This was absolutely incredible. After 15 months of lockdown they were absolutely so welcoming and understanding. Thank you very much to our waiter Carson he was an absolute gem and a great laugh. Thank you again chapel 1877 and we will definitely see you soon . #muchlove

Great food, beautiful surroundings and brilliant service. Booked in to celebrate my wife's birthday - they were very well prepared and accommodating to the allergies, as well as being very helpful in letting me arrange a cake. Cocktails were prepared with care. A brilliant night. Many thanks to the team.
G. P.
Nice building, relaxed atmosphere. Spoilt a bit by covid controls and slow service (same as nearly all bars in Cardiff City center) Can imagine it would be a lot better experience in normal times.

One of the most amazing restaurants. Great indoor atmosphere and very helpful waiters and waitresses. Great experience

Food was good, prices were good, service could be better (Understaffed) and menu should clearly state whether there is meat in the sage and onion stuffing.
S. G.
Came here for dinner with my wife. It is a really lovely building and is decorated well inside. The bar is situated downstairs so you can enjoy a drink before doing to your table for food upstairs. The food was good but it didn't blow me away. The costs are on the high side and they are trying to serve top quality food but I have had better tasting food in other comparable restaurants. I would still go back though.
S. B.
Beautiful setting and lovely food. I would just like to see more choices on the menu.
G. T. (.
Fantastic, friendly and helpful staff who wanted to do everything they can to make our day as fantastic as possible. We had the Sunday roast which was divine. Thank you
N. W.
Beautiful building in a great location, if attending the Motorpoint Arena. Booked in here for Sunday lunch , on being shown to our table there was a door and two windows open causing a very cold draft, soon rectified by the friendly staff. Didn't have to wait long to order and meals arrived in good time, unfortunately one had to be returned because it was cold , staff very apologetic and replaced straight away. Beef and lamb was very nice. In summary , lovely building , lovely friendly staff, meals could be served much hotter, close windows and doors in middle of winter and the service charge on the bill is a bit naughty , allow diners to tip the staff accordingly if they want too.
G. A.
Although the food is always amazing here the service could definitely improve. We had our Christmas party here and we definitely didn't feel the Christmas vibe. There was no music or even crackers on the table. We were left on the top floor and forgotten about for most of the evening. Orders were mixed up constantly and food was served then taken away to another table. The whole experience put us off.
M. W.
The Chapel makes a big impression from the outside and doesn't fail to dissapoint on the inside. This remarkable building has been exquisitely refurbished and what has been achieved is simply breath taking. The food was excellent and the serving staff very courteous and professional. Jamie served us and was full of smiles and is an asset to the business but all the staff made my experience unforgettable. The price is amazing for the quality of the food. I will definitely be back and the management should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved here.

Superb food, beautiful restaurant and friendly people. Highly recommended!

Excellent atmosphere in a really nice building. Food and wine was good.
Moroccan lamb starter was tasty and imaginative. The chicken and mash were very good as a main, but the sauce was very salty. Coffee porter dessert is a really nice mix of coffee, pecan, maple flavours and sponge, ice cream textures.
You should try it out, I think you'll enjoy it.
F. K.
It was ok but the katus sauce was fairly inauthentic. The staff were great though.
J. F.
Nice but could do with a little attention
We had a pleasant meal here in the a la carte restaurant. The service was good and food well cooked (though portions weren't overly generous). The gents toilet had a broken door lock and sink, and there were a few other things that could be a lot better in terms of presentation for a restaurant of this standard.
l. r.
Beautiful venue, pleasant waiters and chef. Food was so delicious we managed starter main and desert. DEEEElicious.... we WILL be back. This was last night we tried the Potted Pig tonight and wish we would have come back here ended up with room service in our hotel. We were really looked after at the Chapel!

I decided to book here for my girlfriends birthday and it certainly didn't disappoint. The reausterant has such a lovely setting and we really liked the private booth that we had, it was really romantic. The service was really good and the food was even better. Would definitely recommend.
P. W.
The roast lamb is fantastic and the steaks sublime. Whilst the portions look small on the plate they manage to hit the spot. The waiting staff are efficient and generally fairly attentive. Finally, the surroundings are beautiful. Worth a visit for a special evening.
T. H.
Was a nice place. The atmosphere was fantastic and it was very busy. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was very good but the portions were not so good which was the only downfall especially when you are paying £23 for a sirloin steak. This was off the bar menu not a la carte. Other then that was a very good night out.
N. B.
Recently attended a wedding at Chapel and I can't fault it. From the beautiful setting to the fabulously catered food, everything was top notch. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. A few of my friends had been to Chapel before and raved about it and I can see why.
Absolutely gorgeous venue and would highly recommend.

Very nice steak, expensive but quality food 👍
A. C.
Service was fantastic, food was incredible, they were accommodating about my allergies, and they took their time to make sure the cocktails were perfect. Do yourself a favour and get the scallops. They went above and beyond, and I couldn't have had a better birthday, thank you all!
J. P.
Fantastic place. Fabulous food and very reasonably priced. I celebrated my 60th birthday here and the staff couldn't have been more attentive. Beautiful interior. Ample pay for parking nearby by. Definitely book ahead.
R. S.
Beautiful building and surroundings. Good service and a lovely beer garden, perfect for people watching on a sunny day! Service is excellent and the food is very tasty and well presented. The service was efficient and very quick. A little more expensive than gastro pubs that serve similar food, but Chapel is a cut above a gastro pub and the prices are fairly standard for a restaurant of this calibre. They also serve an afternoon tea that looked exceptional.
A. B.
My daughter's wedding was in April this year in the function room downstairs. The room looked beautiful . The food was amazing, we couldn't fault anything. We mainly dealt with a lady called Aggie who was amazing throughout, highly recommend the chapel 1877
J. “. J.
Amazing architecture, Amazing food and waiting staff, would definitely come again.
T. S.
Very pleased, friendly and professional staff, nice little booth upstairs in a lovely building. Food was good, not huge menu for vegetarians, but nice change in vegetarian options to the usual goats cheese based offering, with 3 vegan mains. Slightly more expensive than avergae, but it was good food and a nice place, so it seemed reasonable. Thanks.
C. H.
The steak here is fantastic my meal was delicious! I visited as part of a group and everyone had high praise for the food with one exception, while I'm told it tasted great the visual appeal of the fire roasted pepper meal didn't match the expectations set by the other dishes.
D. G.
I would highly recommend this restaurant. The food is absolutely amazing. If you are a really big eater you may not like the size of the starters but the main course is when you will get your fill. The venison that I ordered was the best I have ever tasted and I always order it if it's on a menu. My recommendation is to have the venison pink as it just melts in your mouth. I will definitely be coming back to 1877 .
S. W.
Food very good, however was pushed to pay a deposit in advance, which i can understand, but then pay the balance of my meal in advance. Felt untrustworthy and when i questioned was told people get drunk and forget. My wife and I were on soda and lime. When queried was advised, we treat everyone the same. In my view get a new management team otherwise people will get naffed off.
S. L.
Excellent service stsrt to finish and lush food
N. G.
Nice place with lots of choice at the bar. There seemed to be an odd Argos style collection point for cocktails going on. It's probably to speed up how quickly you get served, but it didn't really work for us. Took 15 minutes to get served despite there being lots of staff behind the bar and not that much of a queue.
N. R.
Pleasantly surprised on a recent visit. I had my preconceptions about the possible atmosphere and pricing, but found a very relaxed environment at a very reasonable price (for the Sunday Lunch at least) that easily makes it a more interesting experience than the chains offered down the road in St David's 2.
Service was very friendly, and despite visiting on Sunday the kitchen were more than happy to put together items from the other menus which was definitely appreciated.
It could be somewhat hit or miss I imagine depending on WHERE you're placed or choose to sit, as you could find yourself shoulder to shoulder in the upstairs seating areas, in one of the very first date appropriate booths, or basking in the sun outside. Still, the food was delicious regardless, and arrived quicker than expected. Give it a go!
D. R.
Very strange experience. Popped in for a late drink. Ordered a cocktail at the bar from the menu. Had to show the person taking my order the drink I wanted from the menu because she didn't know what I wanted. She said Ok, then left to ask the manager something. Came back and said it was OK. Asked me to sit and the drink would be served at the table. 4 minutes later the drink arrived. Mind you, there were two other people in the bar. I felt like I had asked for the world instead of a just a drink on the menu. I felt bad that I somehow inconvenienced the staff with my order.

First visit to this establishment and was wowed as soon as I entered. Its such a unique building with a great dining ambiance. My Mum and I received a warm greeting on arrival and shown to our table in the restaurant. We were assigned Brook to our table, who was professional and attentive. Brook's colleague was too humble to give his name, but deserves a mention too, he kindly waited on our table, whilst Brook was busy waiting other diners, he also offered to take a photo of me and my Mum, because we were struggling with taking a selfie together.
Our meal was surprisingly a large portion, presented well and tasted devine. So much so, I cleaned my plate, which is usually unheard of.
I have no faults, will definitely be paying another visit and will highly recommend.
Thank you for a wonderful experience.
S. R.
Food was fabulous, but the service was slow. Were sat at our table for 20 mins before anyone came to take our drinks order, and even then they hadn't given us a wine list. The restaurant wasn't more than half full, but flagging down a waiter still proved difficult. The interior of the place is still stunning though, and I would love to go back if I thought their service would improve.
J.
This place has a very unique look and feel - the converted church vibe is cool and original. The staff were great here too, very patient with us as we had to wait 30 mins for one person to arrive before ordering. Also very attentive. Food - lovely, but loses one star as the sea bass I ordered was tiny and I was still hungry afterwards!
A. G.
Booked for dining, after my granddaughter's MA graduation. Excellent refurbed venue, friendly, helpful staff. The 3 course meal was fantastic. All 3 courses cooked and presented as requested. Will definitely eat here again, when next in Cardiff.
S. R.
Very nice meal once heated up for me as initially served to me Luke warm. Once sorted it was very tasty had the Duck which was cooked just right. Beautiful building for lovely atmosphere and surroundings. Not cheap intend going in new year when they have special offers on including 50% off your bill.
L. S.
Great risotto, lots of variety of mushrooms, very creamy. Sea bass was cooked to perfection. The first time my mom said she had tasty meal since she arrived uk! Very pleased that we went there.

This restaurant is unique and in the centre of Cardiff City. I visited with my cousin using a Living Social voucher for a champagne afternoon tea. We had finished our shopping early so I rang and asked if we could come an hour earlier and was advised that would not be a problem. We were shown to our table and a glass of champagne arrived shortly after. Then our tea arrived consisting of sandwiches, scones, welsh cakes, fancy cakes, donuts and a champagne sorbet. We enjoyed this special afternoon tea and can thoroughly recommend Chapel 1877.

New year's eve.
So ive been to lots of New year events around Cardiff over the years but this place knocked it out of the park.
Highly organised, i thought it would be ram packed not being able to move but they only had a certain number, this made the place feel extra friendly.
I was so impressed i spoke to the manager, Richard Davies who clearly was was well organised and you could see he his team really well respect him. The staff were so professional and made you feel like royalty. The food was amazing, and the presentation was fantastic. The attention to detail was awesome, midnight balloon drop, table decorations, the whole place had a great vibe to bring in the new year. Only one negative..... ive woken up at 4pm with a banging hangover and missed out on a roast dinner. ...... but so worth it.. Well done team Chapel
L. H.
We went to chapel for their sunday lunch menu and it was fantastic. I had the lamb with the pesto mash and it cooked to perfection. Other people on my table had the beef and chicken and said it was just as good. The vegetables werent overcooked and the para ip puree was fab. Service was great and staff were very attentive too. Beautiful setting for a beautiful meal.

We want to thank Chapel 1877 and especially Richard for giving us the best day of our lives.
He helped us plan this whole wedding to a very modest budget and made it feel like we'd spent 10's of thousands.
Everything from the amazing architecture and decor, to the smallest detail was flawlessly executed.
The food was absolutely scrumptious, every single guest complimented us on how good thier wedding breakfast was and the same was said for the evening spread.
We cant express in words how fabulous this venue is and how they exceeded our expectations.
Thanks for all of your hard work and you will be in our hearts and fondest memories forever x

We turned up on spec without a booking but they fitted us in (very early, about 1830). Super building, great staff and excellent red snapper. I recommend you check out the place before you book to choose a good table because it's on multiple levels, each with a different view of the amazing interior of this ornate Victorian chapel. Much more interesting than all those chain restaurants in Cardiff.

Spent New Year's Eve here with my family. The lamb was cooked perfectly. In fact, all the food was of a high standard. On the negative side, we didn't get our tea/coffee with petits fours. Two women dressed in Burlesque outfits was just a silly waste of time. A magician of good standard came round the tables. Live band was okay, but not as good as last year. Overall, I was happy with the place.

Amazing foo, excellent service and beautiful surroundings,

Sign up for discount before hand if you are an NHS staff member, then use the app for paying.
Empty on arrival at 1pm on a Saturday afternoon. Picked up a bit, but still plenty of tables free at 3pm when we left.
A. C.
Incredible. Super nice, really tasty.
R. L.
Food was lovely, staff were helpful and friendly but the seating arrangement was unusual. It felt very cosy. Because we were all day on straight backed benches at the back of the room on the ground floor, it felt a little uncomfortable and closed in. That's my only criticism. The food was lovely!
L. G.
My friend & I had another fabulous meal here today. Not only is the food excellent the service is outstanding! The staff are really lovely and make the whole experience really good.
P.
NYE night, food was average, band were fantastic and made the evening. Fun atmosphere. Didn’t see a magician despite advertised; his disappearing trick worked well. Service was ok, quite forgetful and had to ask several times for things. If I wasn’t 2 bottles of veuve down I probably would have questioned the £60 service charge.
S. K.
Very interesting venue. The food looked good but we only went in for a drink. The barman was extremely knowledgeable about beers and find and was happy to share with us. When we visit Cardiff again we will pay another visit and plan to eat there.
A.
Second visit

Nice food, very good ambiance, lovely music,

Great atmosphere and surroundings. Staff very friendly, they were very good regarding my dietary requirements + help me order my food. We all enjoyed the food which was excellent. Thank you.
G. B.
Gin master class is amazing and well work the price. Lovely host and canapes were a great addition! Afternoon tea is delicious and well worth it when bought on a travel zoo voucher! Also great deals throughout the week for dinner.
P. F.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch here today with my 7 old school friends. Fab atmosphere, amazing food, beef and Yorkshire pudding to die for 😛, first class attentive service and friendliness from Miller, our waiter, tip totop lady. Thank you. Highly recommended especially the creme brulee! We all rnjoyed and will definitely be back.👍

Thanks to the Cardiff Half Marathon my plans to take the bus where I wanted to go went awry. How fortunate! When I walked in the bar area was quiet, and I was greeted warmly by the folk behind the bar. I asked for a pint of Heinekin and a menu, handed over my credit card, and took a seat. Jamie, from behind the bar, came running over to my table "You forgot your chit for your card!" What a fabulous service! I've never heard of such a thing. Brilliant! The early afternoon light was bright and soft, very inviting and relaxing. The music was audible but not intrusive. Jamie brought cutlery and Nicola brought
my dinner - roast lamb, roast veggies, Savoy cabbage, root vegetable puree and the smoothest, creamiest mashed potatoes ever, topped with rich, dark, velvety gravey. Gastronomic heaven! I choice the pink version and the lamb was cooked to perfection, tender, juicy, flavourful. I ran out of gravy too soon and Danny brought me a small pitcher of the liquid velvet. For afters I selected the fruit and cheese board. An excellent selection of cheeses, tart green apple wedges, tangy fruit chutney, crackers and delicious, moist fruit bread with a kick were beautifully presented. Frankly, there was more than enough to share on that board. It was the perfect way to cleanse the palate and finish up a fine meal. The Sunday menu today had a good variety of appetizers, main meals, and desserts/afters to suit anyone, regardless of preferences or dietary requirements. As I was enjoying my cheese board a number of patrons came in, gathered in the pub to enjoy a pint and talk about the half marathon. Very friendly, amiable, enjoyable. I swear this is the best tasting Sunday dinner in the most relaxing location in Cardiff, at a fabulous value. I can't wait for another Sunday! 😎
H. A.
While the food was average-good, the food took a long time to reach our table. Stunning building but had the music too loud for normal conversation. Would recommend visiting for a drink but not to eat.
R. L.
We went there last week. Beautiful building, very friendly staff. Menu was different because of 6 nation's . Steak wasn't that great . In general food is ok but we rather go somewhere else.
C. M.
Lovely and lively bar, great choice of drinks. Try the Brains, it's delicious. Food was good, you can either get nice small plates to share our have a full on meal. Highly recommended.
김.
It is very good place to spend special time with close people. The atmosphere is really nice and romantic. And employees are so kind. I am not good at using English, so I was nervous when I order. But they did their best for me. I thank about that.
C. S.
Lovely waitress called Laila worked her socks off looking after us. Nice veggie Sunday lunch too
E. P.
Beautiful place. Great service. Found the new app confusing initially to use. Was also told that we would recieve £5 off first order when downloading the app but staff couldn't honour it.
Y. C.
Had a Sunday roast in my day trip to Cardiff.
I like the beef with Yorkshire pudding my friend ordered. Price is reasonable, 20 pounds for 3 ccourse. Interior is fantastic. Have a 1st floor seat of they can.
R. H.
We booked a table on line for Sunday lunch before attending The Motorpoint Arena and we were very impressed with the quality of the food and the ambience of the Old Chapel. This was our first visit and we will certainly return when we are next in Cardiff. We have visited Cardiff many times and we can't believe that we have not found this restaurant before.
S. R.
Gorgeous afternoon tea with loads of scummy grub, consumed with gusto in marvellous surroundings. Our private booth even had curtains! I'd definitely recommend.
K. E.
Food was incredible that we ordered more than our intended main. Wine was great and the servers polite and eloquent. Highly recommend, already looking to return.
A. E.
Attended Chapel 1877 last night for a wedding and it was perfect! Very well organised, the food was fantastic and the staff were very friendly. Would definitely recommend this venue to hire if you are having a private function!
T. O.
Superb, well priced food, well presented and served by informed attentive staff in a wonderful environment. This is all let down by the ambient noise levels being so high I couldn't hear my wife on the opposite side of the table!
g. b.
A great venue and the food was spot on. It is a shame that they forgot to take the deposit off the bill but I will put that down to an oversight opposed to anything else. I would certainly eat here again when I am next in Cardiff.
J. B.
Food was lush , but service was a little bit poor .
A. M.
A celebration for a friend's 60th. Such a beautiful building
I. P.
12 people. Food was really nice. Not cheap but what is in Cardiff? Was offered a drink of Doombar to try that was vinegar. (CAMRA member) not a good start. Changed it no issues. Later tried to charge us for G&Ts we did not have. Sorted no problem. £70 service charge no way.
W. M.
Wonderfully restored chapel with beautiful brick work. Great food, vibrant atmosphere and some quirky tables for intermate dinning. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit but comes at a cost.
F. H.
We visited the Old Chapel for the first time last Sunday for lunch before a concert at The Motorpoint Arena and we were very impressed by the quality of the food and the beautiful surroundings. We have visited Cardiff many times and we can't believe that we have not found this restaurant before. We will definitely return when we are next in Cardiff.

K. G.
Impressive space - complete with upstairs balcony and large event area downstairs. Plenty of seating when we were there, even if upstairs was closed. Not a ton of creative drinks selection is the main hit in my mind.
L. E.
Had a beautiful meal really enjoyed with a few drinks too. A pleasant surrounding with friendly & helpfully staff. Would highly recommend
A. F.
The food was very nicely put together. Very elegant and well cooked. The venue is characterful and interesting and the staff attentive. Would definitely visit again!
b. b.
Loved it. Food great, service quietly attentive and surroundings brilliant.
J. J.
Visiting from the states... Over the top decor inside!!! A nice place did not eat, but one can get an Old Fashion... yes a bourbon drink here in Wales with a quality whiskey. They used a Woodford Reserve bourbon to create this classic whiskey cocktail.
Just to many place to eat and drink in Cardiff on my short 3 day visit.
Will come back in the future and get a meal or even try "afternoon tea".
Q. Y.
Had afternoon tea here for friend's birthday, the interior was impressive and the service was good. It would be great if they serve nicer desert on the top tier of the set.
C. D.
AgI is amazing and attentive as is Jamie. The steak is superb (order medium rare and it's devine.
Couldn't recommend highly enough. I was here for a corporate dinner but equally a great place for a romantic dinner.
J. K.
We ate at The Chapel on the day of my birthday 22nd July. We were very happy with the whole experience. The food was excellent and the waiter had a very good knowledge of the wine. I asked for a flowery type of wine (my favourite) and to my surprise the waiter chose a lovely New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc which was delicious. I think the waiter's name is Alan. Altogether a lovely evening and we would certainly choose The Chapel again. First class service by Alan also.
C. D.
First rate. Had an express lunch and glass of wine. Was made to feel very welcome. Excellent food and drink. Good value for money. Beautiful building.
S. N.
Lovely building and interior. Sadly many of the bar staff have a really superior attitude. If all the staff were friendly and attentive this place would be lovely.
K. P.
Great place, great food
D. K.
Lovely place with nice food, but was little issue with starter. So I think 12% tips what they taking not suppose to be there, clients have to leave so many tips what they think place deserve, because prices not lowest.
D. W.
Absolutely love this place. Great atmosphere, good food and drinks in a very pleasing environment. What's not to love?!
J. D.
Visited this restaurant on father's day Sunday lunch was excellent and the interior design is very impressive.only issue was the two male waiters were slow upstairs we and had to call them over to get drinks on a couple of occasions but food was excellent.
M. D.
Great place food had plenty of taste well set out staff are excellent and service is great a bit of a wait at the bar but that is expected this time of year 👍
S. B.
Understaffed when we were there. Lovely afternoon tea though!
O. W.
Too much oil and insufficient balsamic in the bread starter.
Why put fish on paper? The fish and chips was ok but the method of presentation was not. A warm plate would have been better.
Creme brulee good.
D. B.
We were a group of 6 .booked a booth for Sat 10th March... table was ready as we arrived and we had a fab evening. Staff were all friendly and attentive. Great atmosphere as always.
S. W.
An impressive, interesting and atmospheric place to enjoy an excellent meal and/or drinks. Great menu, attentive service and the three course lunch we enjoyed was excellent. Highly recommended.
D. M.
Beautiful building. Excellent meal. Great service. Very cold on the ground floor due to draughts from main doors.
D. Y.
Not familiar with the menu but all we ordered was very nice.
Good service, bit pricy for Cardiff but OK for a special event.
Very nice building, bit draughty.
J. H.
Can't comment on the food, as I have only ever been here for a drink. The building is really nice, full of character and it's rarely crowded. That may be because the drinks are shockingly expensive, though. I wouldn't come here for more than one drink as a result.
P. H.
Great food, great wine, great atmosphere. Had a great night here with family and we were well looked after by the staff!
J. D.
Nice location, nice food, however they charge a 12% service charge on top of already expensive prices and this is not something that is very clear on the menu. It wouldn't be so bad but you've got to walk to the bar yourself to order so I can't really see what the 12% is for.
R. C.
Beautiful architecture. Sunday lunch was beautiful. Spotless and staff very courteous and helpful. Can't wait to try their other menu.
H. W.
The decor and location is great. Food is really tasty and service is good.
X. M.
Amazing place for Sunday roasted.
D. P.
Beautiful food, love the character of the place which has been retained through the renovations. Beautifully modern decor preserving the original character
A. Q.
This place is really lovely. Great food and good selection of drinks. Not the cheapest around Cardiff but definitely worth the money.
D. L.
Had a Christmas party buffet there. Food was average, defrosted christmas snacks from the supermarket. Staff was friendly but there were issues with the music and that killed the festive mood.
C. S.
I've come here a few times when visiting Cardiff from London. The venue is lovely, the staff are friendly and the food is delicious. One of my favorite restaurants.
M. K.
Really good food and service
K. H.
One the best restaurants in Cardiff. It's worth booking a table upstairs in the restaurant, better atmosphere and food and the old chapel architecture can really be appreciated.
J. r.
An amazing transformation from a Chapel to the Chapel 1877.
Beautifully renovated with jaw dropping interior design. Top quality food and a extensive bar. A place not to be missed.
S. D.
Love the building and the owner is a riot! Such a beautiful place to eat or drink at. Not cheap but usually good quality. Champagne Friday is always a good night
P. T.

H.

Top class service. All round excellent value.
K. C. S.
We took the team at Traffic Jam Media for a great Xmas dinner. Food was excellent, service was good and we all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly! Many thanks to the team.
H. K.
There are two levels, one for the pub and and the other for the restaurant. Staff were friendly but were somewhat unhelpful when asking for help with drinks. Prices are good for the quality of the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant.
J. P.
Superb evening. Great atmosphere and food, and friendly service. Special mention here for Sam our waiter, thank you for making our visit a special one.
R. C.
Very nice restaurant. Interesting setting transformed from a church. Good food and big serving. Make sure that you like potatoes and a lot of it.
A.
Christmas Meal excellent. Staff were good, polite and very efficient. Only negative for me was the price, very expensive for the drinks and meal. It would have to be a very special occasion for me to return.
H. P.
I have been dining in The Chapel for the past five years and it never fails to amaze me, the archetecture is mystical, atmosphere electric, service impeccable and food second to none! I can highly recommend this beautiful restaurant by far the best in the area x

Food was OK but didn't finish any course, some of the waiting staff were quite rude, others were really nice, one toilet upstairs to share between 100 people, nice venue but wouldn't rush to go back
O. A.
Amazig atmosphere, great food and friendly staff! One of the best places in Cardiff to have a relaxed afternoon drink or a dinner.

M. P.
Food was very good, but the service was very slow, think the waiter seemed to forget about us. Would however go back there.
E. O.
Went here to celebrate my grandsons engagement. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and a tasty afternoon tea
E. N.
Food was lovely, but don't like that you have to pay in advance and you ask for coke and they give you Pepsi, should be honest and say they don't have coke.
N. D.
I absolutely loved this restaurant. Quality food and amazing service. Beautiful venue as well
L. K. C.
The food was nice, but wouldn't say it was up to all the hype I had heard.
Liked the intimate booths to sit in!
R. W.
Fab afternoon tea and great service
s. T.
Not very good service. They seem understaffed. Food was nice. Good atmosphere. Lovely location.
