D. W.A busy restaurant with attentive staffs to cater for you needs.Food looked so appetizing before I start…that my stomach began to rumble. The slow cook lamb is properly cooked & seasoned, leaving a pleasant aftertaste in your mouth. Simple is the best, better all the rest. Finger-licking
D. J.There are many posh places in South Wales, that can put for a poshest Sunday dinner you will ever experience in a lifetime. Le Monde in Cardiff has the beautiful atmosphere with Art Deco posters.
The salad bowl canopy is very juicy for a healthy choice. The small lamb ribs were great with the hot marinade sauce. You can eat that with your hands and wipe it clean afterwards.
My favourite main course is Swordfish steak. Is very tender with the roast vegetables and chips. It’s great to have swordfish on Sunday. that most other posher people prefer lamb or Cornish Brill.
The slice of strawberry cheesecake is very rich, but not filling without the cappuccino as post-desert. Another job well done for going to the French brassiere in Cardiff reviewed.

I can't wait to go back and eat the food again. It was so filling and I defo dreamt about it that night.
The only reason it isn't 5 stars is due to the level of noise in the restaurant. It was to the point where I left while my partner waited for the bill.
When we go back will definelty have to enquire to sit in a different area of the restaurant than the bar area.

A. C.The concept is a good idea, where you order from a fresh fish/meat counter and they will cook it for you, however the let down was their service as it was very slow (due to being over booked) and they forgot to bring me me my steak sauce and then trying to charge me for it.
I may consider coming to this restaurant again during quieter periods where hopefully they will be more attentive.

However due to the delay you would think the service would be second to none it wasn't. Waited for water for over an hour, staff didn't seem to work together so the evening was disjointed which was a shame.

You have to order at the fish/meat counter which I found slightly annoying during this pandemic. No social distancing and the restaurant was super busy. However the food was really good, especially the oysters. They do a two course special menu which is great value. Portion size was enormous.

H. W.What a gem.in the middle of Cardiff. Honestly not hear of Le Monde before but reading reviews I couldn't wait to try it. As soon as we walked in the staff couldn't do enough. The food was faultless. The atmosphere was perfect. I loved going to the counter to order my food, and seeing the meats and fish at the counter. A highlight was the deep fried cauliflower florets. I can't wait to return to Le Monde.

H. D.Great relaclxed atmosphere, lots of space and great choice. Select your food from the counter, there is a lot of choice. You can see the fish, and meat that will become your meal. My only issue was that I ordered a very lightly flavoured fish and the sauce was overpowering and included onions. I would have expected better understanding of what compliments. It sort of indicated there are a limited selection of sauces that go with the large variety of meat and fish. A good drinks selection. Can be busy at the fish/meat counter.

We got welcomed in by the manager and taken to the bar for a drink while our table was prepared (we were a little early).
Great cocktails on offer. We were then shown to our table and introduced to our waitress who talked us through the food options. What a choice! Beautifully fresh food cooked to perfection. Best lamb rack I've ever had.

We only had the peace and quiet to enjoy our meal for 45 min, the rest felt like sitting in the middle of a busy pub. If there was a party this large, I would not seat anyone near it. J. H.Went as part of a group of nine. Service was quite detached. Food was ok but on the expensive side. I had fishcakes and a sirloin. Had zero banter with the waiters which is a shame. Service is a big thing for me and places like Ty Madeira for example just go that extra mile.
T. R.Opened only six days before I visited (mid August ‘19). Fantastic restaurant, beautifully designed. No menus as such, you visit the counter and choose your meat or fish, then select chips or potatoes, finally salad or vegetables. Huge choice of amazing looking fish and generous cuts of meat. It’s not expensive, but is pricy; £25 for fillet steak with chips and £3.50 for a salad bowl. We had a lovely dining experience, the food was great, well worth a visit.
P. E.I was an excellent restaurant and wonderful food with good service. The biggest issue is you struggle to get a drink as people just keep sitting or standing in front of where you can get served which to be honest is a total pain and after 10 mins of waiting just to get a drink whilst waiting for our pre booked table we were going to leave, but I decided to go stand by where the waiters get the table service drinks orders and managed to get served. Other than that we had a lovely evening and will go back again and hopefully this won't be the same next time.

That seems to be this restaurants whole USP, so not sure why people have reviewed this part negatively. They have a nice selection of fish and meat. With everything from lamb and steak to king prawns, oysters, scallops, sea bass and monkfish. The decor was nice, as was the atmosphere. The food was good but I do agree with some of the other comments about the food being a little bland. For me it did lack seasoning. Also the service was a little slow. We had a large group willing to spend on drink but we were only offered a drink twice and once was when we first sat down. Overall nice meal, probably wouldn’t rush back given the choice in Cardiff.

s.Great to see the famous Le Monde back and offering that classic brasserie experience in Cardiff. I've had a few meals since the reopening and all have been very good. They could have been exceptional but for a couple of unprofessional oddities in table service. But not dwelling on that, the place is classy, vibrant, with a great atmosphere and the food of a very high quality, if rather basic. But with great quality meat and fish, simple is sometimes more than enough.

S. K.There are mixed reviews about this place, but I think many are before the current owners (reviewed in May 2019). Came here for a birthday dinner, party of 6, on a Saturday night. Firstly, it's busy, so book ahead. The food was very very good. Go and choose your own cut, and tell the chef how you'd like it. Don't worry about thinking it's seafood only (the gf thought this and wasn't looking forward to going) there are lots of meat cuts to choose from, and great Welsh lamb when it's in season. Veal cuts to choose from too, which is great. Oysters were good, steak great, fish delicious. My only criticism is that the tables were a little closer together than I would have liked (at the front, firm the steps). Good value too.

The meal was spoilt by having to send them back, honest the best thing was the fantastic chips & the wine we had. With this said they have always had great wines in house at expensive prices to match. You get what you pay for, no longer applies here anymore. We will not be returning again, it is just another average & expensive place to eat & drink.

C. F.Been going here since the last century. Always choose a relatively quiet time like Saturday lunch when there's no match on. Head for the steak and fish bar. Choose your cut of fillet steak or whatever from the extensive chill counter and await the delivery. Wine prices can be on the high side but if you're not being corporately entertained stick to the cheaper reliable options like the Malbec. Service can be patchy depending on how long the individual waiter has been in the UK. Most are of Latino extraction and very good. Steaks are not cheap but they are excellent. In 20 + years of going here I have had only one poor cut for which the manager apologised profusely and assured me that it would not happen again and it hasn't. Back there in a week's time.

S. E.The name 'Le Monde' is the only thing vaguely french about this restaurant!
Plus point/s... The decor has a great combination of being grand and though on a large scale, quite cosy and atmospheric! The service is of a continental standard i.e. good/very good, with very friendly staff though the quirky ordering set up may impress some, whilst it may annoy others. In fairness to the restaurant it is the way they do things!
Negative points... It is a little on the expensive side, which wouldn't be a problem if the food was haute cuisine, but it is far from high quality! I had duck breast hoisin style £17.95, which turned out to be 'two duck legs' in sauce. I wouldn't complain if the duck was cooked from fresh, but it was clearly pre-cooked, as in the type of two duck legs in hoisin sauce you find on the shelf at Sainsburys... It was dry and flaky, as anyone would recognise a ready meal that has been hanging around a while to be! With that you have a choice of new potato, jacket potato or chips (very French). If you want veg with that, you'll have to find another £4.25 for Sugar snap peas, £5.25 for Asparagus for example! There is always the choice of 'eat as much as you like' salad, £4.25 which is exactly and I mean EXACTLY the same type and quality as you would find in a PizzaHut restaurant, yet with slightly less choice! A Carafe of wine 375ml was £11.95 from memory which was OK and I wouldn't complain about...
Conclusion... Friendly and atmospheric, but pretentious and overly expensive for what was poor quality food... Restaurants should primarily be about food imo!
Therefore, I wouldn't recommend Le Monde to the World!
