It was my first time dining here last night with some friends who spoke highly of the place. The food was amazing though they took a while, but what can I say. The place was packed to the very last square-metre. The waiter was so kind and helpful. I asked him for recommendations and how the portions were for the sushi. He went down to the technical side of things to make it clear for me. Highly recommend. Best tempura I've ever had and highly recommend the fried noodles.

Sadly I didn't eat at the restaurant as I got it delivered to my house. I got the chicken katsu ramen with some sake and I had to share as I absolutely loved it. One of the best meals I've ever had. Also sorry about to bad picture

It was cold bruv. Like I needed to wear my coat. Boom food though. My misses moaned about not enough octopus in the octopus balls, but she been watching too much masterchef cuz. Top food, good service And warm sake sake, was not 10 dollar. Highly recommend.

Some of the most authentic Japanese food I have found in this country. They were unable to do wok fried dishes the night we were there, but we were still spoilt for choice. The ramen was delicious as were the teishoku set meals.

The best restaurant in Cardiff. We've been going for years and the food is consistently of an excellent standard. I've taken a few friends who have lived in Japan and they have all said it's the closest thing they have had to being back there. Amazing Sashimi, Sushi and Tempura. The staff are delightful and always make us feel very welcome. Takeaway meals are superb too. I'd eat all my meals there if I could afford it!

My first time ordering from Ichiban as a friend recommended the restaurant to me. I ordered my favourite Japanese dish - chicken katsu curry. The chicken retained its juiciness and the panko breadcrumbs still maintained its crispy texture having it delivered to me. The savoury Japanese curry is sumptuous and gives that “umami” flavour. Way better than what I get at Wa*a*a*a. The Beef Maki. The beef is stir-fried to perfection and the sushi rice has optimum acidity. Very generous with the teriyaki sauce garnish and the tub of soy sauce. With this dish, I kid you not, soy sauce is not needed at all. Save the tubs people. Reduce carbon footprint! Unless you're having sashimi. Looking forward for more dishes. Enjoyed my first time. Definitely not my last! Legend.

We visited here on a Thursday evening. Firstly, the staff were very friendly, even though we hadn't booked they still managed to give us a table with no wait time involved. The staff were helpful and understanding when it came to us butchering some of the pronunciation of the dishes (lol). We ordered sushi, a hot pot and a teishoku (which kinda resembled a bento box from tenkaichi). The dishes were very well presented and tasted fantastic. They serve Japanese drinks also. It's not overly pricey here and the menu even offers recommendations on what to order if you're new or in a group.. This will definitely be our most preferred place to get sushi. And we recommend you visit here too!

Ordered a takeaway from here. Much better than other Japanese style restaurants I have tried in the Cardiff area. Food generally I would say good value for money, not overpriced by any stretch of the imagination. Thoughtfully packaged and the sushi in particular was excellent as well as the marinated pork with sushi rice. Would recommend this to anyone that wanted a fairly priced good quality Japanese style meal. I’m sure it’s even better value and nicer food if you dine in too

This restaurant is absolutely amazing. The chicken katsu and sushi we're amazing and you cannot go wrong with what you order. It's really good. And the prices you cannot beat them and a really well worth it, especially to franchises like Wok To Wok. It's a joke compared to this restaurant, honestly 10/10 and really recommend you come here :D

Fantastic array of choices on a very extensive menu. Slightly on the pricey side but the food is top quality and portion sizes are generous. Definitely no need to order as much food as they suggest at the front of the menu! One thing to note is that the food is brought out when its ready, in seemingly no order, this may have been because we were in a big group but don't expect to receive all your courses at the same time.

I came here to try sushi for the first time and immediately loved it! There's loads of choice of sushi filling (fish and veggie) and style (maki/temaki/nigiri etc) to please everyone, plus other dishes like ramen, noodles, stir fry and rice. The staff have always been very polite here too and the prices of most items are very reasonable. To top it all off, the interior is beautiful! P.S. If you're a lager fan, I recommend that you try the Asahi.

Been visiting and ordering from Ichiban for over 2 years. Delicious food, friendly staff, and relaxed atmosphere. Perfect place to go with family or friends. The extensive variety of sushi is delicious and is a fun adventure to try out. Would also recommend the soft-shelled crab ('spider maki'), the eel fried rice ('unagi chahan'), and the beef yaki-niku. 😋

The food is ok. The service is good and the waiting time for the food is okay. The restaurant itself is very authentic, but quite cold. Also, the food isn’t the best. The salmon sashimi didn’t taste very fresh and tasted like it had been in the freezer. The katsu don was ok, and the chicken was delicious. But the actual flavour of the dish ( the sauce ) was lacking flavour. I had to dunk a ton of soy sauce on it. But that’s my experience, I don’t think it was that terrible but it’s definitely not the best Japanese restaurant I’ve been to.

Highly recommend. I can say that out of all places to eat sashimi in Cardiff, the restaurant managed to peak my expectations. Tried all the variety of tempura dishes, and I must say that they serve excellent tempura. The batter is just perfect and the dish is fried to perfection. I'm a sushi enthusiast myself. Despite the challenges faced by the restaurant to obtain the ingredients, they managed to fulfil my satisfaction. Their menu overwhelmes me to a great extent. There is just so much food to choose from, and I've been eating here for years, but everytime I see the menu I still find it a challenge to make a decision. That's because every dish in the menu is just marvellous. There are many Japanese restaurants out there, but I admit that Ichiban is the closest to authentic. The staff are all friendly and nice.

As always, a delightful meal last night in Ichiban, better than the various chain Japanese restaurant available. Service was very friendly and the food was delicious. There was a little disorganisation and one of our dishes arrived 30 minutes later than everything else, we had actually finished all the other dishes! Internal decor is lovely but the outside is sadly looking a little tired which I fear may put off new customers. A meal for two in Ichiban is probably one of the more expensive options in the area but obviously is more intensive to make and is always fresh.

Best sushi you can get in Cardiff and they have been in business for quite a long time so that must mean something. They also have nice little booth area give me a bit of privacy but sometimes they all are reserved. I definitely recommend this place!

It was my first time eating here tonight. I ordered the Ichiban Maki, Spider Maki (soft-shell crab roll) and the Mixed Sashimi for my starters. They were superb and I really enjoyed them. For my mains, I ordered the Pork Katsu Curry. The Pork Katsu was fried perfectly. The meat still retained its juiciness amidst having the crispy layer outside. The curry sauce is one of the best I’ve had so far in my life. It’s very close to what I had at Curry House CoCo in Shinjuku, Tokyo. To those who would want to indulge in great Japanese cuisine, this is the place to be. As a good fanatic, it would be a sin if I did not rate this place high enough. Good job Ichiban!

So if anyone wants to gratitude waiters’s great service, plz give extra cash to them directly or leave tips on the table, rather than “keep the change”. Anyway, food is great basically.

I come to Ichiban quite regularly because of the great food they serve. The array of fresh sashimi and sushi always gets my craves going! I highly recommend trying this place. I am quite fussy in what I eat especially raw fish but I cant fault this place as I can tell that it's always fresh. The portions are a very decent size and sharing is always a good idea here so you can try more of vast menu they have. You are spoilt for choice!

We eat at Ichiban Albany Road regularly and I think food is excellent, with an extensive menu. I particularly recommend the California maki, the spider maki and the Ichiban chahan. The presentation is always fantastic & the portions are generous. The staff are always very prompt and courteous. Best sushi restaurant in Cardiff by far. Doumo arigatou gozaimashita , Ichiban!

Came to Ichiban as a word of mouth from friends, when they visit Cardiff. So when I was around on the weekend I decided to pop in. I wasnt disappointed at all! From what I normally have in London, it was for sure on the same level as most of my favourite Japanese restaurants. The choices were extensive with almost too much choice, it took me and my partner a while to choose. The waiter and waitress who served us were very patient while we chose what we wanted. If your ever in Cardiff do give Ichiban a go! Will be back again for sure

I went there for the sukiyaki nabe since it is difficult to find in other Japanese restaurant menu. The broth could definitely use more flavor, maybe a bit more mirin and sugar. Teriyaki chicken was a bit dry but the flavor was right.
