J. P.Been going to New York Deli since it open 30 years ago. The bagels are gorgeous! The new venue in Duke St arcade is not quite finished yet but hopefully will as good as ever. A little bit pricey. Coffees are much improved!

J. S.Food is good but they suddenly closed the kitchen at 1.30pm, in the middle of lunchtime while we were queuing with no warning. It meant our 2 friends could order hot food in front of us, but we couldn’t. There wasn’t even a long queue so it wouldn’t have been hard to just serve us. Very disappointed and just generally found it quite strange.
M. L.Veggie Rueben. What a treat to have a veggie deli sandwich. The portions are large and delicious, I recommend sharing with a friend, and leave room for their equally yummy desserts. 😋. The only thing that would take it over the top would be to have it toasted.
C. T.I wanted a hunk of a slice of cake for a sweet craving, and you only get slithers in coffee shops, but I'd passed the NY Deli the previous week and stopped at their window because of the lovely looking cakes so I knew this was the place to go!
I ordered ahead online for click and collect as I didn't have time to really stop. Online ordering was easy and they offer 10% off for pickup which is great. You can collect from about 25 minutes after ordering. I had no idea the prices were so low for their desserts, I was really surprised. For the size you get, it's fab value.
I hoofed it to town to pickup my order, which was ready. One of the guys there told me that he'd put a fork in the bag for me in case I wanted to dig in straight away, which was nice of him. As I was walking away I got distracted by the menu in the window, so I went to take a picture of it for later, seeing me doing this, another guy inside waved a paper menu at me from behind the window, so I went to get that from him from the counter. It was easier and made more sense than having a photo on my phone. So two lovely guys serving and just went that little bit extra to make my experience better.
I bought the vegan chocolate cake slice. I'm not vegan, but it just looked sooo good and moist so I thought I'd take my first venture into vegan baking and boy was I was no disappointed. You'd never know it was vegan. It was moist and sweet and rich and chocolatey, exactly what I needed and perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. Really good cake, I'll be back for sure. Maybe on my next visit I'll have time to try their famous sandwiches and hogies!

Was planning on visiting the NY Deli anyway, when they posted on Instagram that they actually had an agreement with the local bar, Bubs to order Deli food to there so that you could actually sit and eat in comfort and get a drink from them.
This was absolutely perfect given a lack of seating now in town due to covid restrictions and some bad weather! Made my way to Bubs on a Tuesday afternoon, perfectly tucked away in Church Street and feels good to support a local too, ignoring the chains next to it. Covid restrictions in place, sanitiser available at the door and you're informed with a sign to wait to be seated. Was greeted by a lovely lady from the bar and I asked for a nice warm seat as it quite nippy and she showed me to a table towards the back of the bar. She asked if I was eating and I said I'd like to order from the Deli.
This was fine and they had deli menus on all their tables ready. She explained what I needed to do, to order online and gave me the address to order too with the table number, then explained that to order Bubs drinks that there was a QR code on the table to scan and order table service. All very easy, ordered a non alcoholic IPA and ordered deli food, thinking it would take a good half hour to arrive. To my surprise, the guy from the deli arrived with the hogies within 10 minutes which was great. Hogies were well wrapped up, and was provided with paper plates, cutlery and napkins.
The food from the deli was outstanding, known for their huge sandwiches and hogies so I had a 'dinky' hogie and my associate had a regular one. Both NY hogies, and I asked for mine to be made with turkey instead of beef, which was obliged. So tasty, really enjoyed the coleslaw, the turkey was lovely and soft and plenty of it.
Overall a great experience, I'll definitely head back, especially in the winter for somewhere nice, cosy and quiet to sit, drink, eat and read a book if you wanted. This review goes hand in hand for both Bubs and NY Deli, both 5 stars for service and food/drinks. Definitely recommend, and you're supporting two wonderful local businesses.

P. G.I'm sure this is yet another great review for NYD. There's a lot of jewels in the crowns within Cardiff's arcades; the Koh-i-Noor has to be New York Deli. Whether a hungry chap like me or a trendy hipster, the cafe appeals across the board. The decor and ambience feels more like you're walking in to a Parisian escape, but the food is honest, fairly priced, and fresh, with an authentic American feel to it.
The only comment I've once had from someone is the price on NYD sandwiches is high; I completely disagree when compared to the processed rubbish churned out by the likes of subway, it's bigger, fresher, and has so much more flavour - and let's be honest, a hoagie from here will easily feed two healthy appetites.

Add a can of Irn-Bru and you've got a complete lunch for a growing lad like myself, though I'm sure if you asked them nicely they would slice it in half to take home to feed the family for a week or two..no joke these hoagies are bloody massive as well as being super lush..!

S. K.Read so many good reviews about this and I am a huge food lover. I had the Pastrami Hoagie with coleslaw and cheese doubled up. Could tell straight away on the weight of the bag how heavy it was gonna be. I had the meal deal for £12.50 , I managed to unwrap it but first thing I noticed It was a lot of coleslaw just slapped on top which if your sat down on a bench on a sunny day in Cardiff isn't a good look if your trying to tuck into it. The portion was gigantic which ofcourse is good. Had proper trouble getting my mouth into it . I had pastrami, turkey and cheese underneath , there wasn't much tickling the taste buds in truth. So overall quite disappointed maybe I chose the wrong choice to have but did expect something more tasty with the quality of meats there.
Pros .. portions are huge for the price

R. R.This is easily my favourite place in Cardiff for lunch. I love the crazy oversized hoagies but the sandwiches are generous and just as tasty too. Service is great whether you're getting a walk-out or eating in.
My favourites are the Philadelphia and the Cardiff.
D.By far my favourite place to grab lunch in Cardiff city centre, the food is awesome. Some of the sandwiches are massive.
My only complaint is the prices have gone up recently, for me it gone from somewhere I’d go regularly to a bit more of a treat.

An American happened to be in there whilst I was eating and he genuinely told the staff he hadn't had anything as authentic and as good as what he'd just eaten, outside of the US. Only issue was that they served it up on a tiny plate (admittedly it may have seemed small because the food was massive) and the napkin on the plate was already soaked in the sauce so wasn't much use. But the food was great and that's the main thing.
C. H.As a native New Yorker, I was excited to try this deli and see how it compares to home. I ordered “The Real Ruben,” which ended up being a great choice. The portion was huge and they certainly do not skimp out on the fillings. I was extremely impressed that the sandwich was exactly how a NY Ruben should look and taste. My boyfriend was also completely satisfied with his sandwich, “the New Yorker,” which was great but slightly difficult to eat without getting messy as it was soo big!!

Fresh bread, high quality meats and fillings along with staff who are very patient (They have to be when you are trying to decipher what to have on the menu) combines to make an epic sandwich on godly proportions. I'll chuck a photo up next time I go and I assure you if you've read this far you'll get on the bus or in the car and go get some lunch!
L. W.We were looking for some vegan food in Cardiff and couldn't really find anywhere we both wanted. We ended up trying the New York Deli and wasn't sure what to expect. The place was small but well set out and the food prep area was clean and well organised. We both went for the vegan burger which was served in a bagel with relish and a ton of salad. You needed a knife and fork to eat it ! The seating was nice and the vibe was chilled and relaxed. All the staff were uber friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I'd recommend this place.

Spending a couple of days in Cardiff and one of us had heard about New York Deli and recommended we head over there for lunch.
The guys running the place were great and really patient with us while we (a group of hoagie virgins) took our time deciding what we wanted.
The hoagies were huge, definite value for money and the few seats that were available managed to fit us comfortably.
Definitely recommend you visit while in Cardiff, grab some lunch and have a seat! You won’t be disappointed

F.Although Castle Arcade's resident stores have shifted around in the last 20 years, New York Deli has been the one constant, serving hungry Welshmen epic sarnies and bringing a touch of the US to central Cardiff. Incredible hoagies and bagels that would give any NYC emporium a run for its money in terms of size. Prices range from £4-£8, get the (Cardiff) Devils Hoagie for a soft sub stuffed with pastrami and ham, with jalapeno, pickle and their secret hot sauce, offset by plenty of cool cream cheese. Don't miss out.

I've only ever gone for the manwich ( which isn't the actual name of it but I nicknamed it) which is a triple decker sandwich absolutely crammed with different meat, salad and sauce. But somehow they make the sandwich look neat and expertly stacked.
Even if your a true subway fan I suggest coming here to either convert or to experience said manwich.

But as the weeks went on and I continued to visit the NY deli on my lunch breaks the lure of those sliced meats that I saw spilling over the edges of other customers' hoagies would make me salivate in a way that only a picture of a bikini clad Jessica Alba could do. The temptation became two much, and like a addict having a relapse I broke and in a stentorian voice I told the young bearded servant who stood proudly behind his counter that I wanted to be filled with meat. When it was brought over and placed in front of me, it looked so beautiful that it would make an atheist believe in god just long enough to say 'god damn'. As the smell of the meat pervaded through the air and into my nostrils I began to rapaciously devour the contents of said hoagie until there was nothing left but plate. Thanks NY deli for the meat sweats :)

I. M.Haven't had a reuben for over a year, so I went in when I saw it on the menu. My suspicions were raised, when I was asked if I wanted wholemeal or rye. It was a generous sandwich for sure, at a good price, but alas, with no kraut and no thousand island dressing it was no reuben. It was not hot either.
