Had a wonderful lunch at Thomas today. The food was spectacular. The Mac n cheese side dish was unbelievable!! The restaurant was beautifully designed and the waiting staff were very attentive. One of our party had a birthday and Thomas went above and beyond to make this a special occasion. I will definitely return.

An overall 5* lunch experience. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable. Service was second to none. The food was absolutely outstanding...compliments to the chef!! We will definitely be visiting again very soon. A lovely restaurant to celebrate a special occasion.

The service was excellent, the staff very friendly and the decor is great.
As for the food it was delicious! We had never been here before but had recommendations from family members.
We had to start, the sourdough bread with two homemade butters, garlic and a mushroom butter, the trout, whipped cod roe and the mushroom croquettes.
The croquettes are really delicious, I think my wife could have eaten a couple of plates of them. I can’t say I was bowled over by the trout or the whipped cod roe. For the main we shared a ribeye (£75) for the sharing plate. The steak was so tender it melted in your mouth. Ice cream for one to finish. Two glasses of wine. Total bill £152. All in all a very nice experience.

My 2nd visit to this amazing restaurant and has cemented my view that its the best restaurant in Cardiff right now. The food and service here is impeccable, friendly yet professional. The food is faultless with delicious, inventive vegetarian options. All beautifully presented and taste divine. The mushroom croquettes with truffle mayo were the tastiest things i’ve eaten in a long time, oh and definitely order a side of ‘Toms Chips’ you wont regret it, 100% worth the extra calories!

Really nice, cosy restaurant. Food was lovely. We had lunch for our wedding anniversary and there was a card waiting for us which was a really nice touch
S. T.
Beautiful restaurant. Lovely atmosphere. Great welcome and the food was amazing. Loved the ox cheek mac and cheese and the little tasters were just right as starters especially the crab tartlet. Our ribeye beef was cooked to perfection. I also loved the attention to detail with the way everything was served especially the cocktail glasses. Our cocktails were delicious. The only thing that slightly spoilt our night was our, French(I think) waitress, trying to force us to have dishes that we really didn't want and making us feel a bit intimidated because we didn't want starters.
K. D.
Food was delicious & service was excellent. Went for my mums birthday and they made an extra special effort by putting a birthday card on the table on arrival and a candle in the desert. Really thoughtful.
One thing is the portions were very small especially for the price. The bill came to £200.00 for the set lunch time menu for 3 people (with 2 x bottles of wine costing £25.00 per bottle included)

The first of hopefully many visits. What an absolute gem of a place.... I've been lucky enough to have enjoyed meals at many top restaurants and 5* hotels around the UK and the food at Thomas by Tom Simmons knocks spots off most of them.
A nice relaxed atmosphere with friendly and knowledgeable front of house staff, amazing mixologist and what must be wizards in the kitchen all added to us absolutely loving our experience here. The food quality is top notch and every dish was just as good to look at as to eat and very reasonable prices. For starter we went beef tartar and mushroom croquettes, main seabass with a champagne sauce and the Lamb and for desert strawberry and white choc cheesecake with a basil and strawberry sorbet.... I can honestly say I wanted to lick the plate of each dish. We finished off with a lovely cocktail to toast a fantastic dining experience.
Thank you all at Thomas by Tom Simmons for a perfect birthday meal :)

Amazing food and superb service. You get what what pay for 😬🤣
Will definitely go again!

Really great quality food and cookery!
Came here for a birthday meal and definitely had that ‘celebration’ meal feel to it!
All of the food was wonderfully cooked, however I think I would have been just as happy with 10 plates of the mushroom truffle croquettes, they were incredible!
We also had the crab tartlettes, fish and chips, monkfish, mushroom Mac n cheese, Tom’s chips, spinach and green beans with a gorgeous Sancerre.
The food is very rich (as you’d expect) so we definitely over ordered but I’d do it all again! Look forward to returning!

Excellent food and service as well as fit out
Restaurant in a good location near the park
Expect Mayfair (London) prices as expensive but worth it
Budget 70 pounds per head excluding drinks post service charges with two drinks c. 100 pound per person
Size of the main was very small which was only disappointing part

We had the most amazing meal last night, every course awakened our taste buds, if you are a big foodie like us, this is most definitely the place to visit. It was our second time as we were so impressed on the first, we will definitely be visiting again.

1st visit had lunch with daughter, service was spot on very attentive but not overpowering. Smoked salmon for starters and it took smoked salmon to a whole new level with the roe popping on the roof of your mouth was delicious. Main was duck breast with blackberry ketchup, a new one on me however again superb. The sides were also to a high standard with the chips and the way they delaminated when cut was again a lovely twist on the humble French fry taking it to an altogether different level. When paired with a super bottle of red it was a cracking Dad and Daughter lunch. No dessert, however the expresso martinis were to die for all in all a restaurant well worth a visit.

The best restaurant I have ever been in Cardiff! The food was absolutely divine. I was taken on a culinary experience of smell, texture and taste. I strongly suggest listening to the choices by the staff as they were top-notch. One of the suggestions was a chicken liver parfait which delicacy swayed me away. Additionally, the house cocktails are really worth trying. My favourite was the Rum Punch. I also enjoyed the decor of the restaurant which was very cosy and elegant surrounded by soothing music. A perfect spot for a date!
M. B.
This restaurant is absolute perfection! The decor is stunning and the food is outstanding!! I had the scallops to start which were divine, and the chicken dish for main which has to be one of the tastiest meals that I have ever had.
After dinner, we were offered seats at the downstairs bar, had a few delicious cocktails, and were served by Liam who is an asset to the company!
We had planned on a trip away, but due to Cardiff local lockdown, we had to stay in Cardiff and I'm so glad we did because we found this Jewel in Cardiffs crown which has top place in our recommendations within the city!
J. H.
It was a really wonderful experience. The staff were amazing! The food was divine, but I do feel the mains were far better than the desserts. Will definitely be returning.

Having been fortunate enough to eat in a number of lovely restaurants I can say this place was right up there. In fact, it's as good, if not better than The Hand and Flowers, Marlow. Well done, Thomas Symonds! Top draw.
R. C.
Relaxed atmosphere with high quality food. We had the chateaubriand which melted like butter in our mouths, felt like we should have been apologising to the people on the table next door because of all the nom nom noises we were making! Three courses with wine, £150 for two including service.

A lovely meal in a pleasant setting, who could ask for more
We had booked to come to Thomas’ soon after it opened last year, but our April appointment was cancelled due to the pandemic. So we made a point of Thomas’ being our first meal out after lockdown.
We began with Angel Bakery Bread with salted butter and mushroom paste. The sourdough bread was fresh and delicious and the mushroom paste was dreamy. We also had Crispy Pigs skin with hummus and a smoked chilli oil, the pigs skin was still crackling when it got to us, the flavour was wonderful and the hummus with chilli oil was a perfect accompaniment.
For ‘starters’ my partner opted for Fillet of Beef Tartare, shallot, confit yolk and charcoal mayo, This was fresh and tangy with the confit egg making a soft and gentle glue to hold it all together.
I went for the Ham Hock and Chicken Terrine. The large chunks of ham nestling in the soft pulled chicken terrine were a good contrast for each other. Excellent
My partner’s main course was called ‘Fish and Chips’. This lovely large white fish, cooked to perfection was covered with batter bits and accompanied by a pea puree and warm tartare sauce. It had all the flavour of chip shop fish and chips, but with much better cooking. The chips were delightful. They were layered sauteed potatoes which had been crisped on the outside, rather than traditional chips, but were all the better because of that.
My main was a turbot tranche with smoked mussel velouté and baby leeks. It was cooked perfectly, with a light colouring and crispness to the skin and the rich deep, almost meaty, taste of the fish flesh being perfect.
My main course was served with a side of jersey potatoes, but these had been so drowned in butter that it was impossible to taste the potato. A pity, as I love new potatoes, I wish the menu had mentioned the use of butter on the potatoes as I’d have known to ask for no butter as it does so often overpower the lovely taste of the vegetable itself, but this was the only real off-note of the whole meal.
For dessert my partner opted for Pembrokeshire Honey Parfait with stem ginger and toasted almonds, he was delighted with it. You could hear the quietness of delight as the crunchy honey was the only thing to make a noise as he consumed it with delight. The Ice-cream got a mention as it had been decorated in a way that made it look like a bee, which seemed appropriate as part of the dish.
I opted for the cheeseboard and this came with three delightful cheeses. First was a Hebridean Blue with a spicy, salty taste perfect for my palette. The Blue on this cheese is bluer than other cheese and the hard cheese provides a strong base for the tangy blue threads. Second came a Double Barrell cheese which was also full flavoured and tangy, this Lincolnshire style cheese provided the kind of tingle on my tongue that I love, being a fan of tasty cheeses. The final cheese Elrick goat’s cheese was, surprisingly for cheese made from goat’s milk, less strong in flavour than the other cheeses, more creamy and crumbly, a nice taste, but slightly overpowered by the first two I’d eaten.
We finished with a cup of espresso each having had a lovely evening on our first night out since lockdown.
Given the quality of the food and the amazing cooking we will certianly be back.
S. J.
Both the food and service were amazing! I'd recommend this place for family, friends and date night :)
We'll definitely be back!!
G. S.
Fantastic evening. Friendly, welcoming staff who are happy to help. All round great experience before we even get to the food. Wow. Best meal I've had in a very long time, truly sensational. Will not hesitate to recommend and visit again. Great work team Thomas.
D. B.
Greeted by the lovely FOH, our server recommended wines and food that paired amazingly, the food was outstanding, really can't rate this place enough, if I could rate it a 10 I would. Highly recommend.

Visited Toms restaurant last night for my girlfriends 21st. We were warmly greeted by the bar staff who made us feel very comfortable straight off the bat.
We were then shown to our seats by Andrew, who was just so friendly and attentive throughout the evening.
We started with the mushroom croquettes and fried chicken which went down very well, these nibbles were quickly followed by our starters of chicken liver parfait and cured salmon, both of which were super tasty and very well presented.
Then for the mains, we both shared the special on the night which was a beautifully cooked steak served with green beans and skinny fries, as well as adding the famous layered chips (which did not disappoint). The steak was cooked impeccably leaving a huge smile on both our faces.
All in all a very lovely evening, and we will definitely be coming back in the future.
J. W.
Great food, best I've had in Cardiff for a long time! Nice informal atmosphere.

We were recommended Thomas by a friend and decided to book a table of 4 to celebrate a special event back in September. We were not disappointed!
From entering the restaurant, the service was top class, from the manager Andrew, to the bar staff and our waitress Cara. They were extremely patient as we chose to spend some extra time at the bar after bumping into some friends and couldn't have done more to make it a special evening for us.
The food was exceptional, we wanted it all! We particularly enjoyed the table snacks to start, including the croquettes and chicken. The bread and accompanying butters are also a must.
Later in the evening our friends came to join us at the table and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating in this. They then continued to serve us well into the evening.
It truly was an unforgettable evening. Thank you Thomas, Andrew and team.
J. H.
A must eat if you're a foodie in Cardiff. The menu is well thought out and everything is cooked to perfection. The tea brined fried chicken as a starter took me by surprise but was an absolute treat. Everything from entering to leaving was a delightful experience thanks to the friendly and helpful staff. We're 100% going back!
S. G.
We had a wonderful evening here. The team looked after us superbly and our food was prepared to perfection. Have the Chicken liver parfait with blackberries - it was perfect!!
C. P.
Without question one of the best restaurants in Cardiff. Seriously top tier food at very reasonable prices.
The food is top class and the drinks incredible.
If you want Michelin star quality food (before they inevitably get the star) this is the place!
J. P.
Wonderful dining experience. I went last night with my partner and family, who were down for the weekend. They helpfully accommodated us for a table of 5 during the booking, as the online options were only in multiples of 2.
The food itself was amazing. Truly unique flavours and also bizarre mixtures of ingredients, that work very well. A little on the pricier side, however worth what you're paying for.
On a side note, the table behind us were complaining that the risotto was too watery and tasted of egg. They got into a long discussion with what appeared to be the manager/assistant manager. My brother had the risotto, which was in fact delicious! Would recommend thoroughly for a fine dining experience.

My third Sunday lunch at Thomas. Exceptionally good once again. Beautiful. Chicken liver parfait to start and my daughter had the fried chicken. Both beautiful. Beef Sunday roast was excellent as always and the warm chocolate mousse was delish. Fantastic wine list and excellent service. Andy as always is an absolute delight and the rest of the staff are exceptionally attentive and so friendly. My favourite and best restaurant in Cardiff.
P. H.
At Thomas you get good service, a taste experience you can only enjoy. Across the servings I always come away thinking that was
lovely.

Great little restaurant with quality writ large across the whole menu. It is a bit pricey but great to see a high end restaurant in Cardiff at long last.
S. J.
I’ve been dying to visit here ever since they opened. Wasn’t disappointed. Silky steak tartare followed by their own take on classic Fish & Chips and a decadent chocolate cake with coffee ice cream to finish. The wine list is carefully curated and the team serving were superb. Will be back soon. PS - get the crab tartlet as a little pre-starter. Outstanding.

I decided to celebrate my 21st birthday at Tom's restaurant last night after really enjoying the food at his London restaurant. All the staff were really attentive and friendly, and made sure that everything was perfect. They offered a great range of unique cocktails and other drinks. The fried chicken was incredible and the steak special we had was delicious (especially the layered chips!).
G. T.
Wow!!! What a warm welcome and what a venue.....this place is absolutely fantastic!
A colleague recommended the restaurant and I have to say we were delighted.
Amazing food, superb atmosphere and fantastic attentive staff.
Thanks in particular to the chefs and to Andy & Jack for the great care and service. We felt thoroughly spoilt.
This is the place to go in Cardiff for excellent 5* quality food, can not recommend highly enough.
Will return on my next business trip to Cardiff.
E. C.

Outstanding food and service. If the queen came to Cardiff I’d take her here

My husband and I went here for a late Saturday afternoon lunch and were shown to our table by Andrew.
Andrew was extremely informative with regards to the food and wine list.
I chose the mushroom croquettes (simply fabulous) and my husband chose the scallops. We also ordered sourdough bread and homemade butters (leek and marmite. The leek especially was out of this world).
For my main I chose fish and chips and my husband had the fillet of beef. Wow the fish and chips were divine. I actually had no room for pudding but my husband chose chocolate mousse.
Andrew was extremely attentive throughout.
The whole experience from start to finish was fantastic and it felt like you had eaten the most fabulous food which chef had taken care to cook and present beautifully. We can't wait for our next visit!
K. W.

We went for a meal at 'Thomas' last week and had a lovely night, great atmosphere and freindly staff. Even though there where six of us all of our food arrived in good time and I had a green thai curry dish for main and apple frangipan for pudding and all of it was superb I would deifintely go there again, and recommend it to anyone.
