It might become your favourite Portuguese Restaurant in Cardiff, but not with its service. I wandered in with my partner on Thursday afternoon and was immediately greeted by the friendly Portuguese speaking staff. Unfortunately, we were served by a non-Portuguese speaking waiter that wasn't so friendly. The team did not pay much attention to our table; wasn't very Suggestive. I found it is rude when the waiter told us that they have their own rules for steak and medium comes with blood. The chef is their saviour because the food is delicious. The size of the restaurant is impressive. It would be perfect for large groups, especially if you want to celebrate something. I witnessed a few birthday parties, and it was incredibly atmospheric with traditional Portuguese singing. However, the restaurant was not busy (it was about 4:00 pm). We ordered Gambas (large prawns in white wine & garlic), Fillet of Beef (marinated and grilled on long skewers) with cauliflower in Butter, rice with garlic and peas and Portuguese salad. The prawns were well balanced with butter and garlic, so the garlic was robust and not overpowering. The beef was very soft, juicy and melting on the tongue. The cauliflower could be their signature side dish. It was flavorful, with very little oil. Other side dishes were perfectly cooked and packed with flavours; vegies did not have much oil and were crispy; the salad was fresh.

First time discover this authentic, traditional Portuguese restaurant. Went there to have dinner with my husband. There were a show case/ glass cabinet that displayed ALL the seafood - THE CATCH OF THE DAY on their Day specialist list. The seafood were super fresh and delicious. Thanks so much to the waiter name FELIX. He said he was from France. He is very helpful to give us guide & advice from the selection of the menu. Their customer service were marvellous 👏 ❤️. A truly night for us both in this restaurant. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. We will be back again. Happy & thanks for your kind service🌹🙏👍⭐️❤️

The restaurant is a bit overpriced. The kebab (pork & lamb) was chewy. Not to mention the portion… 6 cubes for £18.95 is out of my mind. Also, Espetada CASA, the dish for two (nearly £40) was not as expected either. It felt like it’s simple to duplicate at home. (Sorry to say that, maybe my taste & cooking skill has been levelled up during the pandemic. But it’s easy to order fresh seafood from fish mongers with a much better price!) Anyway, I would only suggest the Gambas (large prawn), very tender, full of flavours & special from daily choices. The service wasn’t excellent as well. To be honest, the food was not that bad, but comparing to other great BBQ & seafood restaurants in Cardiff, Ty Madeira was a bit overrated. It’s a good place to hangout but if you are picky in cuisines this won’t be the best to go.

Had the most delicious meal at Ty Madeira last night. We opted for the hanging skewers of marinated meat. I chose the pork and it was flavourful and perfectly cooked. Others in my family went for the steak skewers and the mixed meat skewer. They all said how delicious theirs were as well. Special mention of the cauliflower served as a side. Not sure how they managed to make cauliflower so tasty but it was delish. The Portuguese custard tart for dessert was also yummy. Will definitely be returning and would recommend. Once again outstanding, friendly service and excellent food. Went with colleagues and some visiting clients and it did not disappoint. It was there first visit there and they enjoyed immensely. Strongly recommend the spare ribs to start, as that seemed to be the most popular on the table. Of course the Espetadas for main meal. We had a mix of all the varieties on the table and they were once again superb. Had Ferroro Rocher mouse for desert and that was great as well. Definitely worth going for a great night out.

As good as ever! I've visited Madeira's a few times at their old location and was always impressed with the food, facilities and attentive staff at the restaurant. I'm glad to report that since their move (now in a very prime location in the centre of Cardiff, St Marys Street that everything is still the same if not better. Food was served hot and fresh. The mini deep fried cauliflower florets are amazing! Price isn't expensive for what you're getting and the quality to go with it makes that end bill even sweeter. What impresses me the most is the staff's attentiveness. They're always on the ball, friendly and willing to help if required. You can't really fault Madeira's. It's always wise to book as our latest visit on a Wednesday evening wasn't particularly full but was busier than I expected. We'll be back!

Mussels Chef is my absolute favourite starter, it never lets me down. I had Monkfish for the first time tonight, and will be having it again when I go next time. It was exquisite. No room for desserts as we were stuffed, but a lovely Rose for me to take home for Valentine's. Service is impeccable and they treat us like family. Our favourite restaurant hands down.

After many years as a well established restaurant located in Guildford Crescent the Ty Madeira has now relocated to the bottom end of St Mary Street in the City Centre The new premises is modern and spacious and has retained the fantastic ambience and atmosphere of its previous location and Dino and the staff always provide a fabulous welcome and a first class service and it is very safe with Covid 19 Virus regulations etc being strictly adhered to All meals are freshly prepared and quite simply delicious with generous portion sizes and the restaurant is fully licensed with an extensive wine list and other alcoholic drinks and there is an excellent and varied specials board Steaks are cooked to your liking and are mouthwatering delicious as is the Chicken Portuguese and the starter of Melon in Port Wine is tasty and refreshing The new premises also has a spacious outdoor seating area which is a great place to sit and watch the hustle and bustle of this busy cosmopolitan area go by The Ty Maderia has always been one of the very best restaurants in the City Centre and is one of our absolute favourite restaurants We simply cannot recommend it highly enough ! Went the at lunchtime.Had espetadas mista (pork,lamb & chicken) and side dish of sweet potato fries which weren't really needed as diced fried potatoes came with with main dish along with fried cauliflower but not indicated on menu(might have missed if it was).All tasted good but I found it a bit on the dry side as no sauce comes with it,so you should order one.Where we sat the lighting was poor and it is generally low in the restaurant.Enjoyed the visit

My very first visit. So identical to Le Monde of years ago. Even the same waiters and they remembered us. The food was amazing. The prices unbelievably reasonable and the service first class. The only drawback was that there was nowhere to hang our coats. We had to drape our coats over our chairs. We had many hours at our table before they needed it for the evening customers. So near to trains and buses be too. Will be back soon!!!

The food here tastes incredible, so fresh and flavoursome. The reason I've given 4/5 stars is because the service was very slow, waiting 30-40 minutes for food, then 20 minutes for someone to give us the bill. I'd heard the staff are really good, and they definitely were friendly, but didn't check around the tables enough and stayed near the entrance bar. The table next to me also had a big group of 10 ish people, who were rowdy, rude and threw food on the floor. This is out of the staffs hands and I haven't given a lower score because of this, but maybe they should be moved to a corner away from people. For my first time here, it was good but not perfect. I will return again for hopefully a better experience.

I loved this. Afters - Passion fruit cheesecake - very yummy, the highlight of the meal for me. Coffee - not that great. Overall a pleasant experience. Just about worth the cost of £35.00.

One of my favourite places in Cardiff for food. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself goes far back and so can accommodate large groups, although it is always busy so make sure too book ahead! Hanging skewers are the signature dish here, served with friend cauliflower, but most of the menu will please any meatlover. The custard tart is also amazing for desert! Only downside is the lack of potato choice, which is fried potatoes.

The restaurant came recommended by our hotel staff, and it didn't disappoint. We called to book a table for lunch the day before and this turned out to be a good idea. Ty Madeira is well-known in Cardiff and very popular. We enjoyed monkfish and king prawn espetadas (kebabs) and a Portuguese salad to share. My other half had a glass of Beirão and I had a Super Bock 0. All the food was bursting with flavour and compared very favourably to our travels in Portugal. This place is authentic and the staff look after you well. It's a tad expensive for Cardiff, but it's a very good experience for the money.

This popular city centre restaurant has moved to a new location. Good points... There is now plenty of room when waiting for a table. Food was excellent as previous. Staff are pleasant and well trained. Bad points... Unfortunately it's lost some of it's charm and character. You're seated in a large rectangular room, still with it's trademark beams. But seeing extraction pipes and ducting some how reduces the effect. The main issue for me was the lack of staff, getting drinks took ages. We eventually gave up and left.

My first visit last night since they relocated from their previous home of many years, and I think the move has been a blessing in disguise. The restaurant is absolutely stunning; very impressive. There is now a large open kitchen just behind a large refrigerated serve over counter where all of the fresh fish and meats can be viewed. The tables, surrounding decor (original stone walls, large wooden beams overhead) and lighting also provide a great ambience. The service is exemplary - plenty of staff working fast and hard to make sure you feel well looked after in good time. And the food is absolutely stunning - fresh, superb quality, great portions. The best restaurant in Cardiff in my opinion.

This place just keeps getting better and better and is an absolute must place to visit. We were so sad when it closed on Guildhall Crescent but thrilled when it re-opened on St Mary Street. Always happy to help and give informed recommendations. My only complaint would be the sorting of the cutlery in the main dining room. The clinkety clink of cutlery does grate a bit! Apart from that a great dining experience is guaranteed every time.

We visited with a group of friends and were pleasantly surprised, the new layout with the open kitchen and the new decor being very welcoming. Downside is that despite the tables being set apart it can get very noisy. Service was superb and the food choice good as was the very extensive wine list. Our meals included a monkfish espetada, seafood rice (full full of seafood), a lamb and a mixed espetada. All were tasty, well prepared and presented. Certainly is and excellent choice of fish and meats and all reasonably priced. Well recommended although pick your night as the new location is amongst the clubs and bars and so you can end up sitting next to tables where tye occupants can be loud, rude etc

Visiting the new restaurant yesterday after always loving the original. Staff were very helpful and managed to find us a table without a booking. For starters we had garlic mushrooms and pate. Mushroom no longer have a mix of wild mushrooms and didn't have any garlic taste. Pate was over seasoned meaning it was so dry to the pallet which was disappointing. Mains we had a mix and chicken skewers. Meat was perfect once again but no peas with the potatos and cauliflower or anything to replace it is slightly cutting corners especially when your paying mid range prices. The atmosphere is slightly lost in the larger setting with a lot of noise. After going to the restaurant for 11-12 years, sadly we will not be going back as a believe you can get more for your money elsewhere.

Never had a duff meal and have been there several times before writing this and I pay for myself! Choice of menu items plus daily specials. Filet steak is excellent and so is the Dover sole. Food is laid out in refrigerated cabinets for all to view. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Interior decor is very cosy and if you're away from the front you can forget you're in Wales. Amazing and great value! So i had this place recommended by a friend and i was not disappointed. Great location in Cardiff centre, inside its a good vibe very relaxing and the staff are so good and friendly. Menu is brilliant...if you think that Nandos is good Portuguese food its because you havent been to a place like this where its really authentic and just brilliantly done. The selection is good, defo something for everyone including loads of starters, a number of meat choices from steak to chicken and beyond. I had the Espetadas which was essentially kebab meat, not donner, proper meat like beef fillet etc, and they hang the skewers above the table which adds to the laid back feel of the place. Sauces and sides etc are all available in many combinations plus i had beef fillet kebab which i had medium and it was cooked to perfection. Last but far from least the value....exceptional, the cost versus quality was nothing less than amazing as well. Defo visit again. Oh and if you like a drink there is a great selection of drinks from beer to cocktails to really nice wines but again value is good and something for every budget.

The management and staff here are mainly the same as what was the Madeira on Churchill Way which has now closed. The restaurant is much bigger inside than it appears from the outside as it goes back a very long way from the street. As you enter there are comfortable seats by the bar to wait for people arriving and then there a series of tables leading up to the open kitchen area before the bulk of the seating area. I started with the spare ribs assado which as the name suggests are just grilled ribs without any sauce, which although seems strange at first at least it enables you to enjoy the flavour of the meat and there was plenty of meat on the ribs I had. For my main course i had the chicken piri piri which was delicious. The chicken was lovely and moist with a great flavour from the sauce and the grill and I found the amount of heat in the pirir piri sauce just right. The chicken was accompanied by tempura cauliflower which were great and potato cubes which were ok but could have done with more cooking and seasoning. The house red at £6 a large glass was good and ok value and the tap water was free. Service was very good and efficient - I was out in less than 1 hour - but I was on my own. A great meal and I shall return soon.
