I dined at the Vegetarian Food Studio last evening as part of my birthday celebrations with my family. I can thoroughly recommend the place. Very easy going, great service and the food was amazing. Definitely worth a visit.

The mushroom curry was one of the nicest curries I’ve had.
The service was incredible, all of the staff were so friendly and I loved the boss, he chatted to everyone & went out of his way to make sure everyone was having a good time.
If you want to eat in you have to book, it gets rammed.

H. S.A bit overpriced but worth it for a meal once or twice a month. The owner themselves was a pleasant lady and very welcoming - it was a great experience. The food was 9/10. We ordered the Masala Dosa, Dahi Puri and Chana Batora which were fresh and hot and delicious. The Masala Dosa was average, however, the Mango lassi wasn't worth it and tasted as if it was not fresh (couldn't have more than two sips). The soft drink was way over priced too and over the bill - service charge was separately charged. It was a rip off but okay once in a while. Overall recommended.
K. R.The Vegetarian Food Studio is the finest Indian Vegetarian restaurant in the UK, in my experience. I worked in Cardiff for ten years (until 2014), and my family and I still talk fondly about the food there. Went this evening for the first time in three years and it was as great as ever.
M. S.The food was reasonably good in taste and freshly made, and the portions were quite filling. What I wasn't told was that I would be charged £1.50 if I asked for the leftover portions to be taken away, which was added to the bill, only realised it when I checked it at home. That's a first time I've come across this in any restaurant that I have been so far.
t.i was a bit skeptical at first being a meat eater but i’m so glad i went! the food was so delicious and i would highly recommend it to everyone, it truly does live up to all its awards! the vegetable samosas and chilli paneer were my fave :)

O. B.Honestly is one of my favourite restaurants I've ever been to. The food never fails to disappoint, the flavours and the spices are very complex and the extensive selection of meals on offer means that there will always be something for everyone.
Great for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike, I have never found another restaurant in the UK that so expertly delivers on flavours from the Indian subcontinent.
I always find myself returning and I imagine I will do so again in the future.

M.Firstly, in a land of 1.2B people, and more importantly with a myriad of (centuries old) cultures and people speaking 1000s of languages/dialects (Google it up), there is no ONE cuisine in India. So, the term "Indian cuisine" is erroneous and a joke. Coming to this restaurant, its quiet, its spacious and neat. As for the menu, stick to the Gujarati dishes (starters or mains). AVOID any South Indian dishes at all cost (go to a South India veg restaurant for that). Prices are reasonable. Parking is difficult since this restaurant is on the main road, and all the streets near by only have residents' parking. So, be prepared to spend 5-15 mins driving around for parking. We visited twice in April'17 during a week long Easter vacation in Wales. The walk from this restaurant to the Cardiff Castle is around 15-20 mins (which may be needed post a heavy lunch).

The Hakka noodles didn’t have the typical Indo-Chinese flavour I’m used to with Hakka cuisine. Tasted more like a sweet chilli noodle anglicised for the British palate.
I don’t blame them for the anglicisation of some of the flavours as they obviously have to cater for mainly native British/Welsh patrons. Thought the bad reviews on here were a bit harsh as the food was flavourful, if not completely authentic.

S. L.I really wanted to be able to walk out and give the Vegetarian Food Studio 5 stars, but it fell short on a few things. We arrived just after 7.30pm and ordered our meals. A table of 8. By 8.50pm I need to chase up our food. Only half of us had ordered starters so there were bought out a few minutes later. We then had to wait till 9.35 for our mains to arrive! I felt quite disappointed that we had to wait nearly 2 hours for our food. I order the vegan Thali platter which at time felt it had been thrown together with whatever was left at the end of the night (restaurant closes at 10pm). One of the platters was missing the Roti breads, but by this point we werent going to ask for them! That being said the meal was fairly tasty and excellent value for money. I would like to come back and see if it was just a one off last night. It was a shame that the poor service let it down.

I also love the desserts. The chilli garlic dhosa is also lush! The atmosphere is relaxed and the decor is nice. I would deffo recommend.

N. O.Two of us ate our first meal ever tonight here. It was a Tuesday night which we'd booked online. It was nicely busy but you could turn up without a booking. We shared two dishes off the oriental dishes section, the chilli paneer and mushroom manchurain. We also had an onion dosa to share all of which was delicious. We had an alco free cobra beer each - all for just shy of £35. We had a really fab warm welcome and everyone working there was attentive and cheerful. We will definitely be back to try more dishes.

I will mention, for home style Indian vegetarian food, it is fairly overpriced, therefore portions should be bigger for the fee.

J.Always lovely service and food here. Very clean with a 5* food hygiene rating. Waitress service is quick and friendly. Soft drinks a little expensive at £1.65 a can. You're welcome to take your own drinks though and they have an alcoholic license so you can take your own alcohol if you wish. All meals are served with a jug of water. The restaurant has disabled access and an ATM right by the entrance. You can also pay with a card and of course cash is welcome as well. Gets very busy on the evenings and is closed on a Monday.

B. B.What a place! If you are vegetarian or vegan this should be on your bucket list. The menu is huge and is all actually authentic. You will not find a tills masala here, it's all real actual Indian food cooked by honest real people. The walls are incredible, the place is big so you could have a decent sized party there. It doesn't serve alcohol, but you don't need it. 100% would recommend.

A. J.We'd been recommended this place by several other people. We weren't as impressed as they were. Friendly welcome into a bright and spotlessly clean restaurant. Huge menu and reasonably priced as well. We started with the mixed starters. Way too much for both of us to eat, but that isn't a criticism. We found them all a little too dry. There was a tamarind chutney with them but even that wasn't enough to lift them.
We found our main courses were too dry as well with the exception of the chilli idlib which was really good. If I could turn back the clock, I'd have chosen their set menu thali. We may have been less impressed with our food because we chose things which were all dry but we didn't realise that when we ordered. We saw the thali on another table and it looked more balanced than our choices.
For a carnivore this place was challenging but I didn't miss the meat. What I could have done with is perhaps more guidance on what we were ordering - but by the same token I could have asked more questions from the friendly server!

Seriously, I don't often leave reviews but this place is absolutely incredibly amazing. The food is too good. The staff are very helpful and super friendly. It's very, very reasonably priced and you can bring your own booze. I heavily, thoroughly recommend this place. Plus I've never had this much choice eating as a vegan.

S. D.2 criticisms I have. First it's in Cardiff (might be a good thing for my waist line) and second is the no parking. Apart from that I could eat here 3 times a day 7 days a week. Menu is MASSIVE. o. s.VFS has been my favourite restaurant for more than a decade. Every visit brings great authentic recipes cooked to perfection and severed by friendly staff. When I told the waitress about my special dietary requirements the chef came to my table and gave me a number of recipies he was happy to cook specially for me.
I've eaten most meals on their menu and I have always felt deeply satisfied.

Having only one main curry (small portion), a dal or Kadhi, rice, an for starters 2 small peices of dokri (came without chutney) and Fafra, and a small tiny sweet dish...then there was options of puri, bhatura or chapattis.
I would suggest looking closer at the thali option, it is usually a great option for someone who wants to try a few different options, it is like a tasting menu of wider selection of dishes to showcase the restaurant, unfortunately for the price, you failed to nail it on this occasion. I hope you can make improvements to the thali offerings and if it means charging a little more then do it. But I will not be ordering the thali again if that is what is on offer.

a. T.It's been a while since I last visited this restaurant, and always the food has been of exceptional quality. Most restaurants you visit you get some variation in service and food quality however at VFS, they have managed t o always better there service and quality to a very high standard!
The ingredients used are very nice and fresh which radiates within there cooking and marination.
The roti breads are perfectly made, doesn't give you the tick dough taste most restaurants give, they are prefect !
Would highly recommend to visit, the price of the food against the standard is fair and would not say over priced.
