Cannot recommend enough Bill’s Colchester for stunning and tasty breakfast/brunch. I had eggs royale with fries and a lovely zesty cocktail as recommended by my waitress. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked - runny and with bright yellow yolk oozing (exactly what would one expect from great eggs royale) while the coctail had a lovely zing, complimenting the richness of eggs royale. The staff were all friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. The atmosphere at the restaurant was warm and comfortable. If you are looking for a great place to have brunch or breakfast, definitely go to Bill’s!

OMG the food is SO good! I had some of the best houmous ever and dumplings and hubs had calamari. I would have taken a picture but I was so excited I forgot to use the cutlery. Despite the relaxed atmosphere, service is impressively fast and staff were very professional, checking for allergens and were attentive. Indoor and outdoor area available. Would definitely recommend! Nom nom!

I have been to this place once but it is really a good one. Very good service and friendly staff. In spite of closing at 10 pm waitress didn't ask us to leave and said that we could finish our meal at first. It was so sweet. This place is definitely HIGHLY recommended!

Very helpful friendly waitress called Daisy. Went there for my Son's 21st and food was good. There were 5 of us and the bill came to £75 which was for one breakfast each and a hot drink so make of that what you will. Don't rate the pancakes as there isn't enough syrup and it's quite dry. Nice atmosphere and would probably go there again for an occasion

I was impressed by Bill's. The staff were friendly and welcoming and there was a nice cosy atmosphere. I had the calamari which was cooked to perfection, and Bill's house burger that was cooked exactly as I had requested. I dined with a vegetarian, and there was a lot of options on the menu. Had a lovely birthday meal at Bill's. We were able to swap out a couple of sides on dishes for those we knew we liked. Drinks were lovely and the atmosphere is great. First time diners so pleasantly surprised at how good everything was.

Very much a so-so experience. I just thought the quality of the food was very average and the pricing rather expensive. Sure, it’s a nice ambiance and for that you have to pay something and I’m willing too it’s just that the food was rather forgettable. Service lacked some class too, for example when the waitress leaned over my two guests to hand me my plate which suggests little or no training. But a nice place and you won’t feel uncomfortable being there, I’m just not sure after seeing the Bill at Bills that you’ll be itching to go back for more.

Brunch with family never tried Bill's before. Had the best poached eggs for a long time with a beautiful hollandaise. Buttermilk chicken burger highly recommend and Bill's big brunch didn't disappoint either. My mother has allergies and the staff were checking what they were and this was not a problem. Drinks are sometimes overlooked I had fever tree white grape and apricot soda absolutely spot on could drink that all day every day. You can also have a cup of tea even though not on menu. Had an incredibly enjoyable brunch sat outside in sunshine 🌞 Will definitely visit again very impressed well done Bill's 😁

First time at bills and had a very nice experience, food was excellent, service was good and the ambience was just right...my only complaint would be that the table we was given was right near the door and every time someone walked past it would rock my chair. Bills is a little bit pricey but it was a great dining experience will definitely go back.

A great place to have breakfast. I had the gluten free option of toast with salmon and scrambled eggs with a side order of halloumi. It was delicious. My wife had a stack of pancakes with strawberries, bananas, blueberries and maple syrup which she enjoyed. Great service and the restaurant itself is nicely laid out.

Excellent Fathers Day lunch, made perfect by our server, Sandra's welcome and cheerful and attentive service. That and the dog-friendly policy. You get the impression the management have been learning from Ryanair how to give good, efficient service whilst right-royally annoying their customers. The 12 5% service charge is a way of hiding the real price and would have marred the experience if I hadn't spotted the microscopic type at the bottom of the menu. I'm surprised they don't charge £20 to book online. And don't try using their website's feedback form to send nice comments; it makes Ryanair's look good.

Went here for lunch with some friends. Theres nothing over the top about this place but still a great place to eat if you're around town. I ordered the Bill's Cider pictures below as well as the Mushroom Chicken with mashed potatoes. It was all very delicious. Shout out to the staff who was very patient when getting our bill paid for. The food here was amazing, a good range of unusual and new things to try and plenty for vegetarians like myself. The staff were friendly and welcoming. My boyfriend and I are huge cocktail fans and we ordered were delicious! I would have awarded this restaurant 5 stars, however the biggest problem I spotted was there was no host? So the waiting staff were running around trying to seat people and we were forgotten about for a little longer than is necessary. The saving grace was the staff and the food. Busy restaurants need a host to seat customers and communicate with the waiting staff or tables end up being waited on in the wrong order.

Love the décor of this place but that's where it stops. The portions here are very pretentious just look at the pictures. I had the steak which I wasn't at all impressed with to be honest or the 6 chips I got with it. The wife had a halloumi burger which she seemed to enjoy. The cocktails were tasty though especially the mojitos! The orange and coconut brulé was awesome though so hats off for that. Bottom line is I won't be back. Expensive and not up to scratch. Other places do better food, bigger portions and are cheaper. I never mind spending good money on good food but I didn't find this place to be worthy to be honest. Staff were pretty attentive which was good.

A lovely atmospheric place to eat in, fascinating tiles, weird things under the ceiling above you, old bare worn floorboards - Lovely! (apart from the factory noises blaring out and labeled as 'Music', a cacophony of mindless repetitive headbanging nonsense. But it only lasted for the majority of my meal, much nicer after that.) The meal was EXCELLENT! The parts I could not eat were kindly removed before it was brought to me, I was warned about the sugar content in a sauce, (diabetic, so that's a no no) so my meal was tasty, good for me and beautifully presented. Very helpful and cheerful chatty staff. I do so love the decor of this restaurant, and the feeling it gives you. Food is fresh and tasty. I recommend it.

I like the atmosphere here at dinnertime, its warm and inviting and the service is good. The cocktail drinks are quite small for the price. At my most recent lunchtime visit it was quite a miss. The plates were missing some ingredients that were supposed to be included. The tuna tacos are disgraceful as the tortilla is not soft, it was more like a chip and rather stale which was a waste of good tuna. It's OK, but for a high street eatery the food should be more consistent. Disappointed to say, not sure if I'd return.

My favorite place in town at anytime during the day. Good place to go slow for some work or to meet someone or have a gathering with a large group. They keep changing the menu and always have good options. You can also have eggs for dinner if you ask the kitchen . All the deserts are to die for.

Food was lovely, small unsidebut you choose to eat inside or outside on nicer days. Would reccomend you book a table as it is very popular. It is not the cheapest of restaurants, for example a bottle of coke 200ml is £3.25 alcoholic drinks range from £6.00 to around £10. If you hold a blue light card, use it as currently get 20% off your total bill.

A really tasty meal. Had the three course set meal where there were some good choices in the menu. At £14:95, it was good value, especially with the quality of the food. Had a ham hock and pea salad followed by fish burger and then a chocolate fondant. It was all very well presented, tasty and filling. Viktorija, our waitress, was friendly and polite and offered genuine customer service. There was an optional 10% service charge added to the bill and I had no hesitation in paying that. Even got a voucher for a bottle of wine on a return visit. Will be taking them up on that!

Lovely place for a romantic evening! Nicely cooked food with a hint of Caribbean. Lots of reviewers are shocked at the added service charge of 12.5% but doesn't everone leave 10% as a matter of course anyway? We had two courses, a bottle of Prosecco and coffees for £57 including service which seems reasonable. The service was excellent from a very pleasant staff making it all the more enjoyable.

Really enjoyed our visit to Bill's Colchester. We had a reasonable idea of what to expect as we have visited Bill's at Worcester and Leamington Spa on previous occasions. It won't be our last visit to the Colchester restaurant. We were made very welcome, the staff were warm, friendly and efficient. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. Had a lovely conversation with a female member of the team (name has gone out of my head - it's an age thing - but she is originally from Bolton) worthy of a special mention!

There's never any rush, the atmosphere is very relaxed and they have a varied selection of dishes. Meals have always turned up promptly and hot. Located on the high street so no parking near the restaurant. You have to find a multi story and they can be expensive depending where you are. Fairly small location mixed with tea rooms and a restaurant. Simple menu and nice food although the portions are OK they aren't the biggest I have seen. Atmosphere is laid back and welcoming. I’ve been to Bills before but their Colchester restaurant. But I’m glad I did, the food was extremely tasty and hot! And the waiting staff were excellent. Our waitress was pregnant and whilst not being able to drink she twisted our arm into having one for her. Now that’s what I call good sales lol And good customer service, if you haven’t been yet. It’s well worth a try!

We started the night going out for a Nandos. As well got there we saw big queues best find somewhere else walked to Bills and glad we did. My wife wanted calamari rings for a long time, so, we decided to pop in here for lunchtime. The restaurant is not very large inside but it added to the homely ambiance. The service was quick and the staff were friendly. The food was well prepared and came in good time. Unfortunately my wife's calamari rings were a bit disappointing due to the individual rings being quite small and there weren't enough to be enjoyed as a meal. But, the taste was good. The restaurant is in the town centre high Street and you will need to use one of the many car parks around and walk around 150 to 300 meters. Or, if you are taking a bus or taxi you could be dropped right in front of the restaurant.

So Bill's Vegetarian Breakfast consists of poached free range eggs, pesto roasted plum tomatoes, mushrooms, tomato hummus and guacamole on toast. It was delicious though I am unsure that the tomato hummus wasn't a tad sweet compared to the rest of the meal and think the chef might want to scale that back. Both the eggs and tomatoes were exquisite however and the coffee is amazing. Friendly staff and lovely surroundings make this a real treat. It may be s bit hipster for me but I would certainly recommend this restaurant for those looking for something a bit different.

Nice restaurant, went there for family brunch on a Sunday and had a lovely time. Kids had pancakes which they loved, eggs royale for wife and Bill's brunch for myself. For £12:95 the Bill's brunch was a little underwhelming, had envisaged something slightly grander, my wife said "that's not really big enough for you" even though it was supposedly their bigger breakfast (than the standard one) - there was only one sausage (would expect 2 on a big breakfast), the button mushrooms were a bit bland, the potato rosti were really hash browns and there was one slice of black pudding. Come on Bill's, go large!! Otherwise a nice breakfast and reasonable value at £50 for 5 of us, although would have been better value if my breakfast had been slightly more epic.

The Vegan Duck salad was a new experience and was delicious, as was the Mushroom and Beetroot burger, complete with Vegan cheese. Manager was ridiculously friendly and helpful we thoroughly enjoyed the Bill's beer!

Had an enjoyable relaxed lunch here, staff were very friendly and attentive even though it was quite busy. Food here is varied in style from the usual steak and burger selections to some more unusual options. Carnivores, vegetarians and vegans are catered for in equal measure as well as those with allergies. We had a selection of starters to get things going, calamari, spicy chicken skewers and mini Cumberland sausages. We both opted for steak and chips with a selection of vegetables (and in my case a side order of Mac n cheese, arrived scoldingly hot, though nice I would have preferred it to have been made with stronger flavoured cheeses, say a mature cheddar and/or a blue cheese.) The meat quality here is very good. Dessert followed in due course. The decor is sympathetic to the obvious history of the building, but with an industrial twist, in so far as the wiring for the lighting, fire alarms etc is not hidden a way but mounted on industrial racking on the ceilings, the lighting is an eclectic mixture of 1930s and 40s industrial to 1950s domestic to modern up lighters. This is a style have found in all the bills restaurants we have visited. I suspect someone in this company spends a lot of time trawling around, reclamation yards, scrap merchants and bric a brac shops hunting down this lighting. All in all well worth a visit.
