Always nice food, have not had any issues in the past. I like the ability to select what is in the burger or milkshake. Simple pricing of: burger £5, medium fries £5~, milkshake £5. The chips are delicious but the Cajun had a bit too much spice for me (too much seasoning!). Milkshakes are awesome, no complaints. Just deliveroo always takes a while to arrive when I am hungry! Images: Burger Bowl (Veggie with Cheese - nice to get more toppings as not in the bun!), Vanilla + Banana + Strawberry Milkshake, Medium fries, also Relish (ordered with burger) and Mayo on the side

Sitting in the restaurant now with Husband and 2 year old. Eating a wonderful meal. Just had to come on here to say amazing the staff are especially Mathew. Really helpful keeping a 2 year old happy... meaning parents are happy. Also food was delicious. You get what you pay for.

Very good smashed style burgers with lots of topping options. Onions would be better sliced and not cubed so they don't fall out, cheese could be added when burgers are still on the flat top to avoid the half cold half melted effect. Probably the best burgers on a high street or shopping centre near you though.

I work at five guys. I love the food all the time. Just knowing that we prepare everything fresh everyday has a lot to do with it. We have no freezers, only a fridge. The meat comes from the farm to our restaurant in as little as 2 days and we have to weigh each patty and ball it and smash it every morning. The fries are hand cut everyday, it goes through a machine that spins it around with clean water that removes the extra starch and then we have to precooked it and then put it through a final cook to get the perfect fries. The burgers are pretty much healthy except for the buns which are carbs i guess, but i have it with a lettuce wrap and in my opinion it's fresh and goes really nice. Milkshakes are real good too, i like strawberry best. Also we clean the restaurant from top to bottom every day, all the grease traps come out and everything is cleaned in detail, unlike other restaurants I've worked for. This makes me respect the food even more because i know its been kept in clean conditions. Obviously there are mistakes sometimes as with all humans make mistakes, but whenever someone tells us we resolve the problem straight away. 5/5 imo.

Don't get to Colchester much so it's nice that they're opening a Chelmsford branch soon. Would go again without a doubt. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for.

It's Five Guys, of course it gets 5 stars. Shame that that about 90% of the original staff is gone, but I digress. I used to work there. The management is great and fair, the atmosphere is fun and the pay is great for any student or young person looking for a part or full time job. They have great position mobility. If you start working there, you can expect to easily become a supervisor/ manager within 6 months. Free meals on your lunch breaks, amazing. Don't even get me started on their Oreo milkshakes... Here's a secret a manager told me in my short time there. The best burger combination technically isn't even a burger. It's a grilled cheese. Ask for this combination when you're there: - grilled cheese with 2 extra patties, extra bacon & BBQ sauce. Trust me. Seriously, get that. You'll love it Great restaurant, great staff Any secret shoppers reading this, definitely give them 100% 👌🏾

Today I went in to get some food. I'd been hankering for a burger and fries and this place didn't disappoint. The milkshakes are super thick, so thick you could probably walk on them, which I love. The burgers were not greasy but well filled and the portion of chips was large. They do free refills of soft drinks as well. They do have a notice on the door saying they have open bags of peanuts so it you have a nut allergy take care. Overall though a great experience and a welcome burger.

Oh yes this girl loves her burgers! Five Guys let's you choose from so many different toppings to go on your burger, so you can either pack it out or keep it simple. I like to keep it simple. Pickles & onions with ketchup. Side order of Cajun fries to go with & I'm sorted. I do highly recommend Five Guys, the food is cooked in front of you, it's fresh & extremely tasty. Enjoy!! Always liked Five Guys and this one is no different and very clean. They definitely do the best chain burgers in the country, the double burger all the way! First time visit. Assumed fast food was fast food. The ordering experience isn't particularly unique, and the prices are somewhat high, but the quality of the food is more akin to what you'd expect from a pub/ restaurant experience sans the long weight. All extras are free and configurable, soft drinks self serve free refills so, go crazy. Could be my new fast food of choice

I personally find the burgers bland and sub par but that may be because I don't have the illusion with all the toppings so I get to taste the burger for what it is as I have it completely plain but that shouldn't matter. But the staff are always friendly, you have a large variety to put in the burgers and in the milkshakes and it's my partners favourite burger place to eat. Prices are a little much for the size burger you get but it's a business.

Wow the best cheeseburger and chips I've ever had in my 54 years alive. The chips are to die for and I only wish that I bought a large portion rather then a small one but I believe the chips are double fried and you get a choice of a spicy seasoning or a regular seasoning on the chips but unlike the worst chips from KFC which taste dull and bland the chips at five guys are crisp and crunchy and so fresh that you can taste the potatoe in each chip and the five guys I went to even had a notice by the stacked up bags of spuds to say what farm they were from. The burgers were cooked fresh and not frozen unlike other well known burger outlets. The burgers had a lovely flavour as well and we're cooked to perfection. You can chose from a wide range of fillings and toppings as well for your burger ie onions mushrooms peppers and different sauces. I do have to admit that it's not a cheap meal for 2 people but if you don't mind paying a little bit extra for quality then personally speaking I would chose five guys every time tho it's not the kind of meal you have every day but a treat maybe every couple of months or a special occasion but whatever you chose to do I can't recommend this burger chain enough and I for one will make another visit there with my friend for a pre christmas treat. ENJOY!!

Visited 5 guys earlier today on a whim and must say I cannot describe enough how impressed I was. Ridiculously good value for money! The double burger was beautifully cooked, and a more than generous helping of fries. Got a milkshake too which honestly could have been filling enough on it's own but sod it, it was cheat day 💪 The food alone was reason enough to provide a review but on top of that the staff genuinely seemed like they were enjoying their work - all in good spirits and a very friendly lady on the till. Will certainly be returning again :)

Great experience here late one evening: excellent burger (simple looking menu but you'll need to plan your toppings before ordering), surprisingly caring staff for a burger bar and a full-of-flavour mountain of chips. Deliciously free peanuts while you wait too. Price certainly at the upper end for this style of food, but not disappointingly so.

I realise that I am 30 years too old for this place but I have to speak as I find. First the good. The burger was great. Far superior to McDonald's fare so I do not begrudge £8.95 for my bacon cheeseburger with assorted toppings. The chips were a little disappointing. They looked delicious but tasted a bit bland and dry. £2.95 for a small portion sounds a lot but it was a goodly portion and was plenty enough for me. The not so good is that the music was way too high (tracks including soothing melodies by the Sex Pistols among others). They did turn the music down which was nice of them. Unfortunately the place is full of hard surfaces which amplify sound so, as the place filled with customers the conversations became deafening. The noise from the kitchen area added to this so the music level became academic. With hard floors, industrial tiling and metal fittings the restaurant has the ambience of a public toilet. Other reviewers have mentioned great service. The staff are smiley and helpful but service consists of taking your order at the counter then yelling out your order number when the food is ready. I'm not sure this counts as service in the traditional sense as I understand it. It is not a place to linger and enjoy your meal which is a pity because that burger deserved to be lingered over. I guess if you're young and in a hurry then it's ideal. If you're an old codger who likes conversation while you eat then look elsewhere.

Excessively loud music and too long to wait for fast food. Our table hadn't been cleaned properly and neither had the toilets. The burgers are fantastic and although pricey, are worth it. The fries are not; they are cooked in peanut oil which gives an odd flavour (personal opinion, of course) and £4.25 for a regular serving! I can think of several places in Colchester with burgers that are as good, but with better sides and table service. I may try again in a few months, as perhaps the music, waiting time and cleanliness will have improved, given that the restaurant has only recently opened. The burgers really are outstanding.

Love the fact II ca have a hot dog that's beef and not pork. Fries are some of the best out of the other fast food joints. Here, midweek and it's raining. Only complaint is the music is far too loud and staff were literally shouting at the tops of their voices the order numbers - no surprise customers couldn't hear them! Discovered Five Guys back in 2012 when on holiday in the US. Loved them then and still love them now. It's just a shame the food is so expensive in the UK. £18 for a burger, fries and a shake is ridiculous compared to the stateside pricing.

Had to wait nearly 20 minutes past the collection time for an order that only consisted of two drinks with only a couple other customers in the restaurant. I don't usually mind waiting but we ordered ahead on the app to ensure we could leave at a certain time for parking and I received a notification they were ready. Will stick to the Five Guys in Chelmsford next time.

I got a take away from here a little while ago after a couple of colleagues recommended it, the restaurant was clean and looked inviting, the food it's self is very very nice, I had a double bacon and cheese burger cajun fries and a milk shake, my colleague had the same. I couldnt fault the food or the service however the bill of nearly £39 was a real shock. We had intended to sample every burger joint in Colchester, but stopped after tasting Five Guys because there was no need to try anywhere else. The burgers, aside from being scrummy, are very customisable to suit your taste. The fries are beautifully done, especially the cajun style. The milkshakes are probably the best I've ever had, and they come a whole range of interesting flavours including salted caramel and peanut butter. What's also nice is that the whole place including the toilets is kept very clean... we noticed a staff member on constant patrol, and they checked the loos after evey customer visit. Prices are slightly higher than the more famous franchises, but only slightly... and my goodness you can tell the difference in quality.

Someone complained about the price in the UK vs US. They're almost identical. Before covid ruined everything, I was in Colorado, Florida and NY in Jan, Feb and March. Five guys tasted and cost virtually the same. You're paying about £10 for a cheeseburger regardless. Only difference is the cheese toasty and the drinks having visibly artificial colours.

As soon as you walk in you know your getting some real good food! i had a large cajun fries, it was LARGE! there were soo many i got a brown bag full and kept eating them all lunchtime because they were so tasty! i didnt share... many... my colleagues had some shakes, with plenty of added extras! they too struggled to drink it over lunchtime. the only downside was the thickness of the straws for the shakes, it was hard work to drink those shakes!

Love five guys and couldnt wait for the new shop to open in Colchester. Been there already many times since it opened. While I might agree with some that it is indeed pricey, you pay for quality and quantity plus you can make a 'cheaper' meal if you share little fries with someone and get the little hamburger instead. And while I read some say that it is similar to McDonalds, I have to say that this place is nothing like McDonalds!! So stop comparing fresh food with plastic food.

Only points I will raise is there disabled toliet is a radar scheme and should you be desperate it takes a while to get staff, Colchester is not a massive place as such it seems a little excessive.
