A real shock, but definitely the good kind. Having spent time in China and Korea I normally avoid Chinese restaurants in the UK as they are almost invariably disappointing, but this place is the exception. The restaurant looks good, the service was friendly and the food is amazing.

I've just eaten dinner here and it's been truly excellent. The food has been nothing but first class, the service impeccable, and the sounds of Motown playing in the background... What more could I want on a Friday evening? I'm definitely coming again... And again... And again to this lovely, welcoming, warm restaurant. A place that you must eat in, and the car park right outside is free too. Please ignore the negative reviews from people who had a take away from here. Those people should have eaten inside instead of being lazy and staying home.

First time dining in the Maypole. The owners are so lovely, friendly and welcoming. Had a lovely meal, all dishes ordered had a great flavour, and not greasy at all, which I've experienced at other chinese restaurants before. I would definitely recommend eating here and will be back again soon.

What a warm welcome we received. Lovely young guy took our order. Answered all our questions. Was funny and friendly towards our 4 year old grandson. Really lovely family restaurant. Spring rolls were steaming hot and filled to the brim with veggies. The sizzling beef dish was to die for, beef was nice and lean and the flavour was perfect. A our other dishes were lovely and fresh too. Great ambience too. Will definitely be coming back!

Very nice thai food, loved their malaysian noodles and thai jasmin rice and vegetables. Unfortunately they mistook my AT5 or chicken and vegetables for a pad lad prik or T8 which was not to great. Other than that they where brilliant.

We normally use our local Chinese takeaway but unfortunately was closed due to covid, so we used maypole for the first time, and WOW we ordered thai from there, it was absolutely lovely would truly recommend. You wont be disappointed. You gained a new customer!! Keep up the good work.

Decided to give this place a try for the first time tonight. It's a bit of a drive for us but well worth the effort. Although there was just the two of us and the restaurant was quite busy, we were seated and had our drinks within minutes of arriving. Our starters arrived promptly with every course then timed to perfection. The food was great and all the staff were friendly with an eye for detail. I'll be back, probably on a regular basis from now on.

This Chinese/Malay style restaurant is handy for us as it is situated in an old pub on the Colchester bound road out of Tiptree. We've visited it about three, or four, times now and we are never disappointed with the quality of the food. It's always good to book, to guarantee a table but, having said that, we have never been there when it was full. That might be because we go quite early so the kids can get to bed at a reasonable time. The menu is quite expansive and we can always find dishes we like. Service is good (again, maybe because it's not busy?), and the food is prepared quickly and is hot. The restaurant has a nice, clean and pleasant atmosphere, if a bit dated and 'twee' with the decor falling into what one expects of a typical Chinese restaurant in the UK. But it is comfy and warm for all that. The sting in the tale comes at the end of the meal when the bill arrives. Cheap it is not! Expect to pay upwards of £110.00 for two adults and two small children. We did not have starters, but had two rounds of soft drinks and puddings. Even so, I think that is too much to pay for a 'good' Chinese meal in a restaurant. Maybe that's why we don't go very often. Recommended, but save up first .....

Yes the Maypole can be pricey but then so can other restaurants if you order fillet steak, scallops, lobster, Dover sole etc. There are cheaper alternatives but one thing all the food has in common is it is always excellent. The Maypole is an Al La Carte Chinese restaurant and there is a vast array of different food on the menu. For the budget conscious there are set menus or alternatively in the past we have said 'this is how much we wish to spend' a delicious meal has then been produced for the price given. I have eaten in this restaurant for 16 years and have always been given a wonderful meal. Ken the owner is very entertaining too. On Saturday night my husband and I ate Dim Sum, Dover Sole, Fillet Steak and Tiger Prawns and it was excellent. It wasn't cheap but I didn't expect it to be. You get what you pay for and the food has never to my knowledge been lacking. Sometimes we eat more basic Chinese at the Maypole depending on how the mood takes us. It is always beautifully presented and very tasty; it needn't be expensive but it does depend on what you choose- the same as any restaurant. Also don't be afraid to say if you prefer savory or a particular type of food as they are always happy to produce whatever you wish to eat and are much more accommodating than many other places I have eaten. So basically choose carefully from the extensive menu and eat with relish and enjoyment.

We've recently moved from Tiptree to Peldon. We've tried a couple of more local Chinese takeaways, but tonight I accepted that the 20 minutes drive each way is well worth it to get our food from Maypole, hands down the best Chinese food around.

I visited the Maypole on a very busy Saturday night so the service was a little slower than it would probably have been normally, but the food was really nice and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant itself is also very nice and it has a decent size car park.

Without doubt it's the best Chinese/Thai restaurant in a ten mile radius. The food is great and they will taylot it to your individual tastes. Restaurant potions arr on the small side but the take-away potions sizes are the same as any other take-away . . . but the food quality is second to none.

I'm gluten free & on asking the owner to cater for my needs this evening for a take away ken came up with a absoute delicious menu for me, I will be 1000% be using them again, so helpful in every aspect & well worth every penny, the food was more than delicious, I'm so happy I have found a superb Chinese restaurant compared to another one in tiptree who couldn't meet my requirements & were very unhelpful that all they could give me were noodles which were extremely bland with a few pieces of chicken, so goodbye to them & arms open to the maypole from now on, thank you very much for your professional help,
