Genuinely the nicest meal I've ever had. We came for the Valentine's Day menu and were not disappointed: the steak was delightful and we ended up falling in love with the Camembert mash. The wait for the cheque was a bit long but I'd chalk that up to the staff being run off their feet, as it was incredibly busy. Absolutely recommend this place. Only down side is that we were so full afterwards and had to take a nap!

First time visit....and it didn't disappoint. We had the January three course set menu, and everything was delicious. Our server Allison was brilliant. The atmosphere was good and wait time between courses was perfect.

Truly excellent. Came here for my partners graduation meal and they managed to accommodate all 7 of us. The steaks were magnificent and our server was absolutely exceptional. On his dessert (he ordered the ice cream) they wrote “Happy Graduation!” In chocolate sauce on the serving plate. Little touches like this made this dinner wonderful - thank you so much!

Myself and my partner have come to M&C Colchester today for my 25th birthday. We were blown away by the amazing customer service from the entry through to our exit out of the premises. The food was exceptional also. We will definitely come here again on all special occasions. Food and service were faultless! They were more than happy to move us as we were originally sat quite close to the kitchen which was a little noisy. Also able to change the Christmas lights above us to static as they were flashing quite fast and I suffer from migraines. Our waiter Ryan was absolutely lovely from start to finish and can't fault his service one bit. My steak, 8oz rare fillet was cooked perfectly, as was my partner's. We will definitely be returning again soon!

I had never been here, wanted to go but just hadn't got round to it and it's always so booked up, popular place. I had read and been told mixed things so was excited but also anxious to try for myself. I can happily say, I loved my experience here. Scott B who took our order etc from the start made it a friendly but professional environment, he was brilliant. Its a busy place, so yes was quite warm in there and a tad noisy but that's to be expected when it's busy. Our wait for food was pretty quick considering and it was worth the wait. The steak was yummy. Cooked perfectly to how I ordered and how I like it. We had puddings too, Eton mess and creme brulee. Both equally good too. Had a lovely evening. Thanks guys. 😊

The food here is always amazing. The service is excellent and the restaurant is very clean and well presented. The staff are always accommodating and can’t do enough to make your visit special. One again, my go to is either the Chateaubriand or Cote De Boeuf. The wife had the 50 day aged Ribeye. Both were cooked to perfection and accompanied by their killer onion loaf and mind blowing beef dripping sauce. Todays visit was our Wedding Anniversary and the Wife’s Birthday and our server didn’t disappoint with celebratory desserts. Visiting Miller & Carter isn’t just for celebrations but the free bubbly and personalised dishes make such occasions extra special. Thanks again M&C. See you again soon.

Food and service good. I enjoyed my meal but other people at the table had onion loaf with their meals and were disappointed. Compared to previous times when they've had them they were a bit dry and over crisp. My scallops were absolutely gorgeous and my salad was fresh. Could have done with a bit more avocado though. Our server was so helpful. Young blonde lad: really polite and friendly but not pushy.

Great service from Ellie our waitress. Refreshing to have someone like her serving. More should be like her. The food was spot on! So kudos to the kitchen staff too who rarely get credit being hidden out the back. We don't go here often due to the costs but it's nice to treat yourself every now and then and when you do it's nice to get what you pay for.

Our host Ayu was brilliant. She was really friendly and we really appreciated how she made sure the food was suitable for my gluten-free husband. We went to the restaurant as a party of 4. It was my Husband's Birthday..From being greeted at the door and then shown promptly to our seats, the meet and greet was really nice and inviting..The young lady on reception very polite and happy. Our family had a brilliant evening with Miller & Carter. The staff were so helpful, the food was as usual of a very high standard and James our waiter for the evening was amazing. When for our anniversary lovely greeting wishing us a happy anniversary and Ellie was lovely. So helpful with choosing drinks. Received drinks and starter nice and quick. Was sitting watching the kitchen and staff. Chief took meat from grill put on plate and a young man not our waiter took the plate even though there were others that had been there longer and bought them over. We still had not received our lettuce wedge he said I get cutlery and left 5 mins later still waiting so I went to him and said waiting on steak knives and lettuce. We asked for the bill and reported the service and steak along with cold fries. Ellie apologised and bought a slate with happy anniversary but sadly it was a little tainted.

Very polite staff. Managed to book us in last minute for my wife's birthday even though they didn't really have the space. They did everything they could to make it happen. Our waiter was spot on. Didn't hang over you and didn't ignore you either. Just perfect 👌 food was fantastic as well, cooked exactly how I asked, served promptly even though it was a busy evening. The menu is helpful it has information letting you know what will be accompanying your choice of meal. The sweets are very tempting and making a choice is difficult you want to try them all but if you like a light sweet to finish with I can recommend the cheesecake, We can not fault Miller & Carter Colchester for service, atmosphere and an enjoyable meal

Extremely busy for a Monday evening, was only expecting a few tables occupied. Service by Fabio was excellent. Steaks were lovely and cooked perfect. The only thing we would have done different would have been to order just 1 portion of chips between us and also cut of the wedge dish as not sure what the idea of that really was.

Staff was great and accommodating. There was a wide variety of choices on the menu. The ambience was lovely but considering there's a dress code I think the place wasn't very strict on implementing it. We were very pleased that the flooring was carpeted as it made the environment less noisy, compared to a wooden floor. It added to the "wow" factor of the place.

As always, one of my fave go to places the staff are so helpful and accommodating to my dietary needs. Nothing was to much, from helping me to slightly change the menu to making sure the chef could make it for me. My only complaint is I can never have a dessert as I'm gluten and dairy free. But I can live with that. The steak was cooked to perfection. A definite must for couples and even families.

Colin, our server, was absolutely fantastic. I've never been to Miller and Carter before but have worked in hospitality on and off for most of my career and I can't speak more highly of Colin. He was polite, funny, personable and helpful throughout - a real boon to your team. With regards to improvements, I'd just recommend being careful of the toughness of the fat on some of your larger steaks just to really hit a perfect experience.

Staff very attentive, nice touch from the waitress who arranged, a happy birthday signed plate for our grandson with a candle lit placed in his dessert, for his birthday with out us asking for it. The service and staff are always a credit to the company name and nothing is too much effort. I have said before that the starters are fast becoming less value for money. There used to be about 4 starters I chose between but slowly they have been replaced by dishes which I don’t consider value for money. There is now only one I still like and if that goes I’ll probably stop having a starter.

The service is very good and staff attentive. I did ask that the lettuce wedge come before the main course. It did but we were only half way through the wedge when the main course arrived, more time should be given in between the courses to allow people to enjoy their meal rather than try to rush it.

I have been coming to Miller & Carter in Colchester for many years along with my friends & family. It has been my go to for a guaranteed good meal every time. This evening was the first time we were unsatisfied with the food. The sirloin (which was ordered medium rare) was more well done & dry. The onion loaf & chips were cold. HOWEVER, after we complained about this the staff were fabulous. Our waitress sorted replacements straight away & the manager came over & spoke with us personally, asking if there was anything he could offer to make it right. We were also refunded the said meal we were not happy with. Such a shame the food wasn’t up to standard as it has been the 10 plus times we’ve been before but the service made up for it mostly. Hoping it was a blip as we love coming here.

We came for a meal for my Mums birthday. The meal was delicious as always! The doorman wished my Mum Happy Birthday on arrival, and without me asking, pointed out the toilets on my way there. Had fillet steak which was perfect. Quite rare even though I asked for medium rare but the flavour was fantastic. My estimation of Miller and carter's had gone down recently but this one was excellent. Very good service, polite and helpful. Not rushed at all and even gave us more time between courses. We went on a Sunday and they had a deal 3 courses for £30. For four of us the whole cost on the bill was around £135 (we did have a 20% discount card). However still a very reasonable price. I had a peroni and a malbec for drinks which went down perfectly with a steak. Had a side of truffle mac and cheese and sticky toffee pudding for desert. Recommend them both. Overall really nice restaurent and look forward to going back.

I came in with my friend and our waitress was called Ayu. The service and friendliness she gave us was outstanding. She made us feel welcome and comfortable as this was our first time in your restaurant. We had a chat and I showed her my baby pics and some older ones. We all laughed and had another chat. My friend and I felt sorry for her as she was the only staff member to carry on working when the others where having there lunch. Customers were coming in and she was the only one who was serving them. All that time she's still smiling and putting them first. We were warmly welcomed at the front door and led to our table. Our server was Maisie who advised this was her first shift in the restaurant so to bare with her as she may have to check anything she was unsure of. However Maisie did a very good job from taking our drinks order to answering questions about the menu and apologising when there was no 12oz ribeye steaks available. When our starters arrived we mentioned to Maisie we were getting a draft from the air conditioning. She quickly closed the two vents pointed in our direction which made an instant difference to the temperature, meaning we were able to sit and enjoy our meal. Maisie checked on us occasionally but was not intrusive and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would return again.

First time visiting last night, dont think I will go back. Firstly service was incredible, meal not so much. For a steak with a £7 supplement it was undercooked to the request of medium and was only warm. The butter on top didnt even melt! the chucky chips tasted like cafeteria chips as if they were left on the hot plate too long, same with the peppercorn sauce which came with a skin on I.e left a while, as well as the onion slab. Generally disappointed as I was looking forward all week. And my glass was dirty to top it off. Plus wasn't really sure what to do with quarter of a lettuce. Very build your own meal.

Great social distancing in place. Menu great as always, it is expensive but sometimes worth it for a great steak. Dessert was disappointing, had no dark chocolate shards and only 2 crushed raspberries and strawberries with stalks - not as described in menu.

Lovely food, been to a few miller's around Kent & Essex this is one of our favs. Tables are set out with plenty of space between them which we prefer, we visited another m&c in Essex last year and I was pretty much on someone else's lap lol. Could not fault our food atall or the service.

The area of Stanley and copford are now increasingly becoming very popular areas for food retailers established the businesses up by the beautiful garden centre in stanway. Entering your building it was quite noisy in the sense of that it was bustling you did a good thing there was lots of people there with lots of service going on and the waitress and were just amazingly friendly and were able to tell us all about the menu also it was a nice dining experience and the the menu was easy to read and easy to to pick out what you wanted well done, the only query I have is the sides which is the letters and which is comes in a quarter of a iceberg lettuce which dressing on it It's a lot to eat and one go but also I think it would be recommended if they could char grill it on both ends both sides it would give it much more definite flavour to it that's just my advice

Quite easily the best steak I've had on this side of the Atlantic. Miller & Carter is a cut above the rest, where British steakhouses are concerned. The atmosphere is warm, friendly, and welcoming. Service is excellent and attentive without being intrusive. Prices are on the high side, but the quality of what's on offer is simply superb. Highly recommended...

We decided to order from the festive menu as it was the 23rd of December. I'm very pleased we did as not only was it pleasing to look at, but tasted delicious too. Love going to miller and Carter Everything we have is always lovely and cooked to how we like it but was really upset to find we had been there 4 times in all since Xmas and they had wiped my rewards off or didn’t put them on properly was most upset as would of had 4 rewards so may think twice about going again as not cheap for a family of 5 adults as kids don’t eat kids meals

Wasn't expecting much from this place, but I was wrong. The decor is modern and elegant with a hint of a traditional vibe. Leather seating and low slung lighting in places, exposed brickwork and the fittings are to a high standard. The staff are welcoming and helpful and I really have no complaints at all when it comes to this place. The food was much better than I had expected, literally everything was amazing. We had a lovely sharing platter to start consisting of duck legs with hoi sin and seasame seeds, spinach and feta samosas, handmade nachos, sticky chicken wings and calamari rings! All the meat almost fell off the bone, except the duck legs. For a main I had the oak smoked brisket with beef dripping sauce, mash and an onion thing I've forgotten the name of, same thing here though, delicious! And a little cheese cake to finish it off oh and an espresso martini! Try one and you will love it. In short it's a new build with beautifully elegant decor and amazing food!! We will be back without a doubt. Well done to all the staff that made our visit very pleasant.

Really nice dinner out, staff were great, decor was clean well planned out, seating was a mix of deep set comfy chairs and booths, whole place had a lively atmosphere which was comfortable and great for chilling and people watching. I have been to this Miller and Carter a few times over past couple of years and never had a bad experience. Its clean, tidy and well presented. Parking is available, which can on odd occasions, get busy. If you go at lunch mid week then you can have the fixed price lunch which is very reasonable... ordering off main menu can start to get expensive, especially if you have your heart set on a special cut of steak! With that said... everymeal I have had has been very tasty - and I have come to realise that I am a tad addicted to the beef dripping sauce...! (I order it as an extra when I go and am not having steak...!) Well worth a visit, just wish I could afford to go more often!

My first visit to M&C and in general it didn't disapoint. The welcome was warm and friendly, the decor and ambience was classy without being ostentatious. The serving staff were suoer helpful and attentive without being intrusive. The baked brie sharing starter was heavenly, my partners main fish course was fabulous. The only slight minus mark was that I ordered a 16oz 30-day aged ribeye steak and it was okay, but for a ribeye it didn't have much in the way of flavour tbh. At £32.95 it was a bit of a disappointment tbh. In comparison the ribeye i had at a Beafeater the previous week looked awful but tasted amazing... Overall, a lovely night out, great venue and atmosphere but just fell short of awesome.

Never visited this chain previously will certainly be returning. Great location and ample parking - the building appears to have been purpose built for the restaurant. Had the T-Bone (First time in around 15 years) and it was absolutely lovely the fries were divine the onion loaf was perfectly crisp as was the lettuce. A few niggling negatives that I'd like to mention but it doesn't affect our opinion about the restaurant in general. Number 1, my partner was asked of she wanted fries or sweet potato fries? She opted for the sweet potato fries and a charge of £1 was added without any mention from the server about this. Number 2, the hand dryer in the gents toilets wasn't working. And thirdly our server was a little to attentive towards my partner which did make her feel a little awakard. We had a lovely meal in the evening of March 6th. Lisa was our waitress, she was absolutely lovely. I told Lisa how we all said she was the best waitress we had ever had anywhere. We have been a few times recently because it's that good. The waiting staff are attentive and very friendly which can border on intrusive but we were fine with it. I love my steaks, the main thing being the thickness and they do the size I like. I seem to need the meal for two option to myself! Always it's cooked perfectly and the fact it comes with 2 lettuce wedges and two chip portions means that I can share that with my wife. All this beautiful beef is washed down with draught Peroni. First time visiting and was recommended the steak but there was some really amazing other choices. I opted for the Chefs reccomendation which was pork fillet wrapped in bacon, With apple three ways, dauphinoise potato, green beans and roasted Mediterranean-style vegetables. It was amazing. Others had steak on the table witch looked amazing too! I can reccomend the main I had, the Yorkshire pudding starter is amazing and the banoffee pie was divine (I pinched a mouthful of my partners!) Service was great, very friendly. Very pricey but when we eat out it's usually with our little ones so we have to go to a more 'child friendly environment' this was a bit too fancy for my two little legs so it was nice for me and my partner to have a nice evening with decent food and company. You basically pay for what you get and what we got was lovely.

I enjoy coming here. We often go out as a family here for meals, or celebrations. My only criticism, is although the steak is cooked to order, as I like, everytime and more often than not HOT. They do seam to struggle serving any of the sides, or accompainments hot. I have sat very close to the pass, and they attempt to hot hold chips, and tomatoes, the onion etc her under a hot light, that doesn't do the trick. I wouldn't have thought cooking chips to order, or sides to order was that difficult.

Just be prepared for a meat induced coma afterwards. My second outing was equally amazing. The burgers are also sublime. My own review was made before the restaurant was open to the actual *public*, so take that as a disclaimer. Miller and Carter has a bell. Whenever anyone tells their waiter that the food is the best they've ever had, or that it's the best steak they've had in their lives, or something to that effect, the bell is rang. When I heard about that, I didn't imagine it would happen all that much. But then I went there. Quite simply, the bell was rung a lot that night. Miller and Carter has the best steak I've ever had. No questions asked. It's a bit expensive (8oz sirloin being a good £18), but by god was it good.

I have been eating at Miller and Carter since I worked as a grill chef at the first ever restaurant opened (camelot) , I have over the years visited many Miller and Carter resterants and considering the price of the steaks I expect them to be of high quality, seasoned and cooked as ordered, unfortunately on this occasion I found the t bone steak to be very dry, it was cooked as asked but both the fillet and sirloin was just dry and gray looking, my partner had the sirloin and it was also dry and gray blue looking in colour which didn't look right, it had no flavour, the sweet potato fries were really soft and soggy too. The service was very good on this occasion and the reception was great. I probably should have sent the steaks back but was in a rush on this visit so decided not to, so overall the experience was fine but the meat quality was poor at best. I will be eating at Miller and Carter again I hope this was a one off experience I could speculate as to why the meat could be like this but as I do not know for sure I'll leave it off this review

We visited as a couple for Sunday lunch. We were greeted as we entered the restaurant & shown to our table. Our server, Lisa, was very friendly with a great sense of humour. Our part of the restaurant was cold, Lisa noticed I was cold & a colleague quickly sorted it. Our food was delicious. We had lamb with ratatouille & dauphinoise potatoes and burger with fries & for desert creme brulee & tirimasu. I've been to a few branches of Miller & Carter now and I have to say that sadly this wasn't one of the best. I had the ribeye steak and I just didn't really enjoy it for the money I paid, I found it to be quite fatty, which seems to be a common theme throughout Miller & Carter restaurants. I think in future I'll be sticking to fillet or sirloin steaks only, also the waitress seemed quite blunt and a tad impatient, for the money we paid I would expect a higher standard of service really. Overall, it's nice but it's definitely not the best M&C I've visited.

My latest trip to Miller & Carter was with my Girlfriend for a celebratory meal - We had recently found out that she was pregnant, and that any meat she eats needs to be cooked through thoroughly. Because we are both still getting use to the idea of her being pregnant, she had completely forgotten to ask for her Steak Burger to be cooked through. When the food arrived, the burger was slightly pink in the middle, however, the waitress and Chef were fantastic! Even though the mistake was on us, they insisted on cooking her a fresh meal which came through quite quickly and was cooked perfectly. We were really happy with the way the situation was handled and will continue to be a regular customer to Miller & Carter!

I made a mistake with booking online and instead of 4 people I had put 2, we also arrived 35 mins early and they still accommodated us. Only four people are to enter the doorway and you wait to be greeted by a member of staff. Hand sanitiser is available. Unfortunately, I did not get the persons name who greeted us, but he was so polite and helpful. The drinks were brought to the table on a tray and left for us to take ourselves, all serving was carried out either on trays or the waiter/waitress used a serviette to hold things to bring to the table. All staff had masks at all times. The restaurant appears to be doing everything possible to safeguard the staff and visitors - I felt very comfortable in the restaurant. I was very impressed with how everything were managed and would definitely recommend. Food was lovely as well 😁

First time in this restaurant and it's a really nice setting. From the minute we walked in the staff were really nice, friendly and professional. We had sharing platters to start and they were absolutely delicious, especially the fish one. We had a really nice bottle of red wine which was very reasonably priced. Three of us ordered the beef rib but when it came it was very dry and a bit tough. When we mentioned this, we were immediately offered an alternative and when our steaks then arrived they were cooked to perfection and delicious. Linda attended our table and was really great😀. The low key ambience, clean surroundings and the consistent high level of service does set Miller & Carter apart from most of the venues in Colchester. This is at a price; dining experiences don't come cheap there. In today's discount culture is unlikely you'll be finding them on your savings app of choice, which (in theory) means you're paying for what you get - good quality steak, aged and of a premium cut. Our four sirloins had a minimum of wastage, with only one of them featuring a couple of small pieces of gristle, the meat was very tender and succulent, although a little salty. The accompaniments were tasty, although both the onion and the chips did cool quite quickly. As a starter the calamari was delicious, with a generous portion. The same for dessert, a good sized brownie. The cookies and ice cream wasn't as we expected (not ice cream on a large cookie) although it was tasty enough. Overall it was a very pleasant dining experience and we would return again, when there is the need for a more premium venue and food option.

This review is so good you'll think I'm lying. Girlfriend and I arrived about half an hour early for our reservation but we were given the option of a drink at the bar or being seated immediately. We were both quite hungry so opted for food. Upon being seated and having genial conversation with one of the managers a drinks order was taken. I chose a Virgin cocktail (driving) and my girlfriend went all out for the long Island iced tea. Our waiter was friendly and joked with us which really settled us into the vibe of the place. Cocktails arrived really quickly and they were followed with a sharing platter and our mains. I had the fillet, my girlfriend the slow roast beef rib. Honestly, my fillet was the thing of fantasy, rare, so perfectly rare just a teasing of heat on the outside and perfectly juicy on the inside. I could've kissed the chef. Girlfriend really enjoyed her rib commenting that it was full of flavour. Decided against dessert as we were absolutely stuffed. Bill came to £70 which I felt was reasonable so I added another £10 for the staff member. It's been so long since I've had such good food and brilliant service I even raised the point as I left. The only thing I could possibly find fault with was the timing between starter and main was quite quick but otherwise I'm well impressed. Will definitely be back again and again.

Great place for steak 🥩and a great menu for families too. Children are welcome and even have their own menu to keep them happy. The are helpful and seem to be able to satisfy everyone. I always eat my steak rare but I have to say that it's not easy getting it right for everyone. When my son queried the condition of his medium steak they didn't do what most restaurants do and just reheat it, they cooked it again and met all of our expectations with a completely new plate of food. It's small details and the attention to detail that make all the difference between just using a place once and returning again or referring to others.

Staff are fine. Food ok. Unfortunately their rules stating casual smart are not adhered to as jeans and jogging bottoms blatantly on view. We made an effort to look smart casual so we're a little perplexed. Tables for two are close together and the noise was a bit to much. Not disgruntled but not what we thought.

Very friendly staff. Lovely food. Well worth a visit but a bit pricey. Take your AA card for a 20% discount. The tandoori lamb was very tasty but avoid the cheese. The fruit isn't fresh and the biscuits like cardboard. Give that a miss.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Ok prices. Served a group of ten efficiently, and humoured a few tipsy jokes on the drinks. Limited veggie choices - the two veggies in our group had a choice of 1, roasted aubergine which neither finished as it was dry and needed something to accompany it.

11 of us came on a saturday evening (6pm) for a family birthday meal. Having never been before I was a little nervous -wanted everyone to have a brilliant meal- and I must say we were NOT disappointed. The atmosphere was good , comfortable ,fun but also cosy we weren't all on top of each other, service was prompt we don't wait long for our meals despite it being really busy . The food wen it came was delicious everyone said it was the best steak they'd had I personally had thw sea bass it was delicious, we had cake after and they all sang happy birthday so all in all absolutely brilliant . Thankyou all for a fabulous night we'll definitely be back

This place was absolutely amazing. The service is so welcoming and the place was spotless, and the view outside was just as good as it was inside. The steak was so flavourful and the presentation was spot on. I would highly recommend going there.

Lovely steak, lovely ribs. Nice atmosphere. In a large party of 10 or so might get your order muddled up and end up with the wrong thing but it was Christmas and stressful busy time of the year so will give them benefit of the doubt on this one.

Eaten here on several occasions and never had a bad meal . The service has always been first class . I always have the fillet steak and it's always cooked to perfection . Good selection of drinks and according to my wife good wine . I would definitely recommend .

Spur of the moment dinner didn't get here until 10.15pm and they still served us! Was absolutely shocked... amazing service gorgeous food we both had fillet and it was the best i had tasted in a very long time, everyone was really happy and the restaurant looked awesome really good atmosphere. Think our waitress was Emily really polite bubbly girl 😊
