We were highly recommended to visit North Hill Noodle Bar and we were delighted from start to finish. Visiting the website and the viewing the menu, there was a suggestion to book a table in advance. Polite phone conversation and did feel fortunate as we couldn't book the time we wanted but provided alternatives (just shows how busy they get). Welcomed upon arrival asking for booking name and shown to our table upstairs. Excellent table service from the staff and ask about allergy information too. The flavours, the aromas and the presentation of the food was above my expectations and I'm really looking forward to returning and trying more dishes, means my partner won't have me stealing any of theirs. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.

What a gem! We went on a Tuesday and it was very busy, we managed to get a table up stairs which is such a cute rustic environment. The venue is very clean, the staff very friendly and the food does not dissapoint and the prices are very fair. Will be visiting again next time I am in town. If your visiting Colchester then this is a must try.

First time eating here and I cannot wait to be back. Due to its popularity you definitely should make a reservation. I made mine a week in advance and they kindly called me a day before to confirm the booking. Service was impeccable, the staff were super kind and attentive. They answered our questions and gave suggestions on what to order. Food was great, some impressively authentic flavours which were all so delicious. Overall, a great take on oriental cuisine and a very well thought out menu that encapsulates the key flavours from Asia. Menu had just the right amount of options that made it easy to choose. Definitely recommend.

Amazing! I cant here for my birthday and it was the best food I had had in over 2 years! The atmosphere was warm and cozy because of lighting and the people in there, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and I have never once had to complain about ‘cold’ or ‘uncooked’ food. It’s always cooked properly and at the perfect temperature! 100% recommend!

Great place to eat. Catered for my dietary needs and the choice was delicious. I had the King Prawn Pad Thai The starters were great. We had sesame toast, hot and spicy wings (not spicy at all) but still nice and ribs were yummy. Service was very good. Was so interested in eating I forgot to take pictures. I think the food here is exceptional. It tastes like it's made with high-quality, healthy ingredients but is incredibly filling and feels indulgent. At lunchtime, the portions are perfect, and the menu is good value. The service is quick, despite always being incredibly busy (sign of good food!), and the staff are polite and efficient. It is a small venue, packed to the brim, so be prepared to knock elbows with a stranger! I'm super fussy and always opt for the rendeng chicken noodles but they are AMAZING. My colleagues are more adventurous and love this place too. Knocked off a star for the evening menu prices. I rarely get to eat dinner here or pick it for take-away because you don't get a lot for your money. I am full after one dish and it's well worth it for me alone - but my partner has a bigger appetite and it does become quite costly. I'll come back time and time again for myself though!

It's almost doubled in price over the last few years and they stopped doing the lunch menu, which is a shame. It's super busy, but the food is always good. Used to be a 10/10 but now the prices are just a bit high to warrant decent value for money and would probably go elsewhere when it used to be a go-to every time.

I have lost track of the number of times I have eaten here and I've never had a bad meal. I think you could give me anything off the menu and I would enjoy it. Fantastic food and service. Good portion sizes too. My kids are 9 & 11 and have eaten here a few times and they love it. Try the specials - they are always very tasty! Wow, what can I say. We attended the venue last night after hearing some glowing reviews. I don’t recall the last time I did a little happy dance when trying tasty food. It just got better with every bite! Decent size portions, good pricing, amazing service, nice and hot (temperature) and so tasty! Spice levels were perfect on the kung po chicken. Squid started looked pale but was probably the best squid I’ve ever had. I’m in love with this place! 👌🍻

I often visit this Noodle Bar at the top of North Hill in Colchester with friends prior to going to the nearby Mercury Theatre. The staff are friendly. There's a good choice from the menu with specials on a nearby board. Service and delivery of food is amazingly speedy but it's always hot and very tasty. The place is always busy so it's advisable to pre-book a table.

We went to the noodle bar to celebrate a birthday. The staff were attentive and polite and even offered to give us a doggy bag at the end of the meal. The food was really scrumptious but I couldn't finish it all. I had a truly delicious Kung Pho. My only reason for not giving five stars is that sitting on a bench with no back rest is not comfortable and I did have back ache when I stood up Maybe I am just too old for hard benches.

Amazing food. Lovely venue. Highly recommended. Higher end in terms of price, but well worth the money. Everything is delicious, freshly cooked and very filling. We love it! It is a very old, tiny building - tastefully decorated, modern, clean and very cosy and intimate inside. It has steep, narrow steps and passages which could be tricky for people with mobility issues... check access with them when you book. The menu is fab with a great selection of dishes - thankfully, it doesn't cater for 'boring brit eaters' - you won't get chips or an omlette here!! Parking on North Hill is limited, but plenty of late-night car parks nearby.

In the centre of Colchester so very accessible. Although it’s only a small space, it has been used very well. Modern dining with plants and fairy lights create a welcoming, clean atmosphere. The staff are extremely attentive and accommodating. The food was delicious and well-presented. Although the prices may seem steep, the portion sizes more than make up for it. I didn’t realise until after ordering but they also offer a selection of dishes on a menu board that I assume are often changed.

Superb food and first-class service. Had one of the day's specials, crispy chili beef with orange and asparagus. Simply sensational! Properly crispy beef and the orange/chilli combination was amazing - sticky-sweet and delicious. The addition of some asparagus brought a fresh taste to the dish, and the egg fried race it came with was light and fluffy. Oh and try the deep-fried tofu - yum! Not the cheapest place but well worth the money.

We've been visiting the noodle bar for years and have never had a bad meal. Food is great, service is excellent. Great for a quick bite or a meal out with friends. I would recommend you book if you're planning to visit at lunchtime or dinner as it's a very popular place, they will do their best to get you a table but space is limited. Usually works out just under £20pp for a good size evening meal, lunch for half that.

One of my favourite places to eat, the atmosphere is cosy, the food is amazing with quite a wide choice that isn't too overbearing. The staff are nice and service is very quick. A great place to bring dates or one two other people although I wouldn't recommend bringing more than that. Although it can be quite pricey at times depending what you order, for what you get I think it is well worth the money. Overall a brilliant place to eat.

Definitely the best place to eat in Colchester. The day I get a dish from North Hill Noodles that is not the most yummy thing on god's green earth is the day the world ends. If you're going to eat it in Castle Park, though, then remember to ask for cutlery! Still forking delicious.

Have had recommendations to go here for ages and finally made the journey which was so worth our while! We sat upstairs in a gorgeous setting with old wooden beams and ordered our drinks which arrived in minutes, we then ordered our food and although we had to alter the meals to suit vegans (which was no issue at all, very knowledgeable) it still arrived all together within 5 minutes, all equally hot too. Pictured with this is what we ordered and as you can see the portions are very generous! Waitress was lovely and would encourage everyone to go!

Its a good place to go. I usually get roast duck with rice. However its not the same taste (some ingredients replaced) anymore. I think the chef might have changed . The satay chicken was very tasty you get 4 skewers in a portion and the chicken was nice and soft and the satay very peanutty in texture rather than the paste-like sauce you get elsewhere. The pork dim sum I've never had before so can't compare it, you get 4 in a portion. The main dishes were gorgeous, duck in Thai red curry sauce and rice and the king prawn pad Thai. We couldn't fault either dish. Tasted like quality, freshly cooked food. Definitely will eat there again.

Usually my favourite restaurant and take away, but sadly my meal tonight did not live up to expectations. The chicken satay was flavourless and the sauce quite gelatinous, the squid was rubbery and the two main courses were Luke warm at best after a 15 minute car ride (in a thermal bag). Not sure if the food had been sat for a while before collection (I was 2 minutes late), but compared to New Year’s Eve when you would imagine the kitchen would have been much busier, this meal fell short.

I absolutely love the Noodle Bar, I go there almost every week. The food is amazing and decently priced. They also do take away which is very convenient and in a great location. Sometimes the service can vary from time to time, sometimes brilliant and sometimes it can be hard to get their attention, the tables can also be a little small. However the food always comes out so quickly and is amazing I would never get turned off by that. If we ever struggle to get someone's attention when we want to leave we just get up and pay at the bar on the way out.

To be honest, I am not the biggest fan of asian food, but this place was lovely and I think I might have to give more of that kind of food a go.

If you would blink you could miss it, as it has a tiny frontage. Once through the door you're greeted and take a seat around the bar while you wait for your table and you can order a drink and soak up the atmosphere. When you're taking to your table you walk through the building with the kitchen set up at the rear. You will be served quickly and the choice is mouth watering. They're happy to cater for your needs. We enjoyed a main and two sides which we shared followed by a dessert again to share.

Great value working lunch. Went with exchange Cantonese student who was pleased with the food, what else can I add. Staff is managing the queue berry effective, haven't noticed the waiting time. Rustic- like interior that is small, but pleasant. The waitress was around us a lot very keenly, and the dishes served were a decent portion size. It was reasonable tarting without being amazing, and we spent £60 on three meals, 4 juice drinks (halves) and two sides. That's a decent price!

Sending another order over ... the noodles were my mistake ordered the wrong ones. Edited 15/03/19 please read the end of the review for my latest review. Fairly compact noodle bar on more than one level with bench sheeting. Very popular and busy when we went. Staff are polite and fast and the food comes quickly and is nice and hot. Portions are of a good size with the options of noodle, rice or soup dishes. A standard meal starts about eleven pounds and is enough to fill you up comfortably. We opted to order three mains and three side dishes with a spare plate and shared between the four of us. Staff are attentive but not in your face and it has a nice atmosphere. Limited range of alcohol with soft drinks and water available. Deserts and tea are available if you want them served in the traditional manner. Total bill for four of us sixty seven pounds including drinks. I am told they have some weekday lunch specials with a different menu but have not tried it myself. Plus point the food was hot, cooked to order and had decent sized prawns, pieces of meat and fresh vegetables. Down side bench seating and a small beer selection. If I could give part marks it would be 4.7 but try it for yourself and give it a review I am sure you won't be disappointed. Updated 15/03/2019. Arrived to try the working lunch menu. Small wait, but greeted by a very polite man who hung our coats for us. We were at our table within four minuets and our drinks and food order taken no more than five minuets later. We both opted for the house noodle dish and added some spicy tofu, drinks were bottled water and a beer. Food and drinks both arrived within five minutes and the food was lovely and hot. I finished my wife's noodles as she was full, but then somehow managed to order a desert of sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. I had to try a bit and it was fantastic. This is my second review of this noodle bar and I have to say my recommendation and praise for the staff and chiefs gets greater with each visit. I couldn't help noticing the mix of people in the place, there were older people rubbing shoulders with the young, lots of lady's doing lunch, business people, tradesmen the whole jolly lot happily munching away. The only downside of the place is that it is not disabled friendly due to the age of the building. Also the toilets which were very clean and modern are upstairs via a winding tight staircase, not practical for any body with a stick or movement issues. That aside this is still a great place to go. Total bill for two mains, one side, one dessert and two drinks, just under thirty pounds. Tips are extra but I am sure you will want to tip them just like me. Extra things to know, they have a good website, you can book a table in advance, ask for downstairs if you have mobility issues and they do take away which is cheaper. Happy eating and don't forget to leave a review.

I went to North Hill bar this week for lunch with a friend, she had a pram with her 4 month old in, and I am in my 9th month of pregnancy. The staff at noodle bar could not have been more helpful! They insisted on helping us by carrying the pram through the restaurant making sure we had room for it next to our table, and then when realising I was so pregnant (my coat was hiding my bump) they insisted on giving us a bigger table so I wouldn’t be squashed. They served us really quickly and the food, as usual, was spectacular. So fresh and full of flavour. I will always love this place and recommend it to everyone!

This is probably the best place to eat in Colchester. It's unpretentious, reasonably priced, set in a pale wood and white wall reimagined interior within a cozy timber-framed building. It serves a legitimately decent range of "pan-asian" food. Other restaurants in Colchester will charge you more and put greater effort into their presentation and atmosphere, but you'll leave wishing you'd just gone for dinner in London. This place nails the essentials. Properly executed Char Kway Teow, duck, dumplings and more. There's not much more you can ask for at ~£12 a dish.
